《Modern World Reformation》 Prologue The day started like any other day, me in my wheelchair, being escorted to school by my twin sister who was in the same class as me, my worn slacks that were covering the missing parts like it was a curtain, as well as a white cloth on my lap for hygiene purposes. Surrounding us on the way were the usual gazes of pity and curiousness at my missing legs from the pedestrians. There were exceptions though, such as those who encountered us daily thought of it like a daily occurrence so they paid me no mind. Houses here and there decorate the area like a rural zone, with patches of green and brown scattered on the ground. Students on their way to school, some wearing their school uniform, others didn¡¯t, in all kinds of grades, elementary, high school, and senior high school. Behind me, my twin sister Bea Coli was humming while pushing me through the sidewalks of the daily pedestrian traffic. She had black hair and eyes, and an appearance of a model. The same could be said for me because I was her twin. There was a time where I was labeled as a girl before because of my appearance and my classmate tried to woo me, but when he found out that I was male, he had a pale face while trying to hide his embarrassment. Such was the daily life of me, Bert Coli after that fateful day two years ago. During a trip with my father, a car was seen crossing over a red stop light while our mini-van was passing. Without any time to stop the cars due to the inertia, the car crashed into ours. I was sitting at the back seat alone because Bea wasn¡¯t able to come due to a reunion with our friend from abroad. I couldn¡¯t go with her because of an important occasion that day which my father needed me to come. I didn¡¯t know the reason why, but we weren¡¯t even able to reach the destination because of the accident. My father was killed on the spot because the car crashed right on the left side of the front bumper, causing our car to spin around in proportion to the force generated. My father unfortunately hit his head on the windshield and rearview mirror in a bad way, causing internal bleeding and the fracture of his skull. While my legs were crushed under the weight of a metal box filled with tools that splendidly flew from behind because of the crash. Because of that, my legs were diagnosed by the doctors as having the nerves damaged, never making it possible for me to walk again. And also because of a problem with my health, they amputated it, resulting in the present. The car that crashed into our mini-van was actually pursued by police. It was said that the driver and the passenger were caught robbing a store so they had to drive away. When my mother and my sister came to the hospital after I was brought by an ambulance, the both of them broke into tears upon seeing my figure, as well as my deceased father¡¯s body. ¡°Bert? Are you still thinking about that?¡± Suddenly, while I was deep in thought, a voice came out from behind. She had a worried voice with eyes that were looking into me at the core. ¡°Nah, not really, I¡¯m fine. By the way, is it not really tiring pushing me all the way to school?¡± ¡°No! This is the least I could do so that you can go to school again!! Why do you have to ask that question always?¡± I repeated the same question I asked last day, and the response I got was similar to last time. ¡°Ahaha¡ Alright alright¡ Thank you as always.¡± ¡°No problem. We have to help out each other in times of need right?¡± The both of us, while not minding the surroundings, floated a smile on our faces and laughed. A few minutes later, we arrived at the school. The same as always, a campus where students were only comprised of Senior High and College grades. The author''s tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. The school specializes in courses that require the usage of modern computers. One particular course, which was IT, was filled to the brim with students, I am one of those, as well as Bea. Since I didn¡¯t have legs anymore, I thought of a job that mainly uses hands, so how about a programmer? I got hooked on games during the free time I had because of the loss of free movement, mostly online games such as the recently trending Ap*x Leg*nds. ¡°Bl**dhound is such a broken character¡¡± ¡°Right!? L**eline is better though!¡± Us siblings where terribly addicted to the game. 25 levels in already, and we still haven¡¯t got a legendary skin, but we had only one win. [1] ¡°Yo Bert! You feeling good?¡± ¡°Not as good as you Dee.¡± While I and Bea were talking with each other about the game, our classmate Dee walked towards us from our backs. ¡°Bea, still pushing that wheelchair I see¡¡± ¡°What¡¯s wrong with pushing his wheelchair!?¡± By the way, my wheelchair has a joystick I can use to control the movement. I don¡¯t know why Bea wants to push my wheelchair, but seeing that she was enjoying it, I didn¡¯t bother her too much. ¡°Hey, can we get going now? We¡¯re going to be late. I don¡¯t know about you guys, but teacher probably won¡¯t scold me too much.¡± While both of them had sparks scattering with their eyes, the both of them went pale when they heard my statement. ¡°Oh crap!!! I don¡¯t want to get that kind of preaching again!!!¡± Dee quickly ran away like the wind while leaving us in the dust, pretty understandable, because our first subject today has one of the strict teachers teaching in the whole campus. Well, he is lenient with me though¡ ¡°Bert!! Let¡¯s hurryyyyy!!!¡± ¡°Yeah but don¡¯t rushWAAAAHHHHH!!!¡± As expected by a gold medalist athlete in track and field¡ She really is a fast runner¡ ????????????? School went by in a flash. Nothing much happened except for Dee pissing his pants when he was scolded by the teacher, metaphorically that is. On our way home, Bea is as always, pushing my wheelchair under the sunset. ¡°¡¡± ¡°¡¡± The two of us were silent during the walk, until Bea decided to break the ice. ¡°Bert, please tell me if it¡¯s still haunting you.¡± ¡°Not really, it¡¯s fine actually.¡± ¡°It¡¯s not fine!!¡± I was shocked at Bea who suddenly shouted near my face. There were tears in her eyes as she looked directly into mine. ¡°Don¡¯t you think that I didn¡¯t notice!? Everyday, that look of depression on your face is visible! Ever since that day! Ever since that day!!¡± Tears continued dropping down on the ground. The area was silent as there were no people around, so only the sound of sniffing and tears dropping were audible. ¡°Because of that accident, you couldn¡¯t save her!!¡± ¡°¡¡± The memories return. I decided to lock them up forever. Why did it come out? The pain of losing her¡ The feeling of uselessness¡ The frustration and regret¡ She was holding out her hand¡ I tried to grab it¡ The wheelchair got in the way and¡ ¡°A¡ Au¡ Aur¡¡± Why did I not grasp her hand that time¡? Would everything be different if I grabbed her¡? Will I be this lousy person if I saved her¡? ¡°Aura¡¡± The pain in my chest tightens¡ The tears drop down¡ The memories resurfaced¡ ¡°¡¡± ¡°Bert!?¡± That was the last voice I heard before I fainted. ????????????? Where is this place¡? Trees around me¡ A cliff¡ And the view of the area where I lived¡ Ahh¡ I remember this place¡ The memory of being unable to save my classmate from certain doom flashed in my mind. Why did you return¡? I decided to forget¡ Why are you returning¡? A white hand extended from the cliff side and stretched out towards me, as if trying to grab my hand. I tried to run, but I realized that I had no legs. My wheelchair was gone, and I was left with nothing but the clothes on my back. I desperately crawled away from the madness and regret, only for my actions to be in vain. ¡°Why didn¡¯t you save me¡?¡± The voice of a girl resounded in my head. ¡°Au¡ ra¡¡± ¡°Why didn¡¯t you grab my hand¡?¡± The voice gets louder. ¡°For¡ give¡ me¡¡± ¡°Why¡¡± Did you let me die? ????????????? ¡°AAAGGHHH!!!¡± My body got up with the force of a train. Sweat covered my body. The sheets were wet. ¡°Haa¡ Haa¡¡± Again¡ Why did it return¡? I was already starting to forget¡ That nightmare¡ I calmed myself down while trying to slow my breathing. I don¡¯t want to get a stroke. After a couple of minutes, my breathing was in order, and my state of my mind went calm. Who put me here? Was it Bea? Probably, knowing her, she could lift me easily without my legs¡ huh? I felt something out of place, and when I took of the blanket, I saw two legs popping out from where it was cut. [Congratulations!!! You have been selected as a participant of the ¡°World Reformation¡± Event!!!] ¡°Wh¡ at¡?¡± Chapter 1 ¡°Wh¡ at¡?¡± What is this? No, what happened? I was sure that I had no legs for two years and yet, here they are. I softly stroked the skin and my sense of touch could be felt with the legs. I could sense the touch from my hands to my legs, clearly stating that the nerves were connected. Wasn¡¯t technology not that advanced to have the medication to regrow torn body parts? I can confidently say this because my legs that were amputated were in a terrible shape and if it was possible to reattach, along with the nerves, then I could walk after hospitalization, which is of course impossible. I tried moving the two regrown legs to see if I could move them freely. Sad to say, it was very hard. I could move the thighs no problem, but the lower parts where it were amputated were very hard to move. Was it because I hadn¡¯t had legs for the two years? Wait¡ What the heck am I saying¡? ¡°WHY THE HELL DO I HAVE LEGS!!!¡± My shout echoed throughout the house, causing a chain reaction where my sister would, anytime now, barge in here and give me a scolding, and I was right. She kicked the door open, literally, and glared at me. ¡°WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SHOUTING FOR BROTHER!? EHHH!??¡± When she glared at me like I was an insect, she noticed my two regrown legs and stood stupefied and shocked. By the way, our mother is working abroad to afford our school and daily life finances. ¡°Wha¡ªWHY THE HELL DO YOU HAVE LEGS!?¡± Are you seriously shouting at me for having legs? A typical loudmouth sister for you, but still¡ ¡°WHAT ARE YOU SHOUTING AT ME FOR!?¡± I¡¯m not calm. This situation is far from normal, so of course I¡¯m nervous and anxious, as well as a little bit joyful for having legs again. After shouting at each other, the both of us calmed down. It took about 10 more exchange of yells and shouts, which then caused our neighbor to shout at us to be quiet at the dead of night. ¡°Bert, I¡¯m sorry for earlier, but can you explain?¡± Bea looked me in the eyes with all of her seriousness. Seeing that she was very serious unlike the other times when she was just a happy-go lucky person, she really wanted to know the cause. ¡°I don¡¯t know, but when I realized that I had my legs back, a game-like message appeared in front of me saying that I became a participant of something.¡± Bea had question marks over her head. Even though she appears to be a happy-go lucky person, she is actually very sharp in times of need and other destructive situations. ¡°Game-like? Is it like the novels where the MC gets a floating message in front of them and receives cheat-power?¡± ¡°Something like that¡¡± I was not surprised about the calmness of Bea and mine. We knew each other since birth and shared the same womb at the same time so for us it¡¯s like communicating with complete understanding with one another. ¡°Mu¡ Nevermind that, for now, can you walk?¡±This tale has been unlawfully lifted without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. ¡°Not yet. Can¡¯t even move my legs properly.¡± Once that she ascertained that there is no use in further pursuing the thing about the game-like message, the first thing that she asked me was about whether I can use my legs to walk or not. She looked at me with anticipation, but then became disappointed. ¡°Don¡¯t worry, after a few days or weeks, I can probably walk again because I know that these legs are connected to my spine.¡± ¡°Yeah¡ Right, but let me call a doctor first.¡± ¡°Only Dr. Tsukasa. I don¡¯t trust the other doctors.¡± Dr. Tsukasa is a doctor from Japan who moved into our neighborhood and did his job at a well-known hospital an hour drive from here. He was the only one who had friendly chats with me while the other doctors and nurses looked at me with pity. ¡°Sure thing. I wonder what his reaction will be like when he sees your two legs?¡± Just like that, Bea walked out of the room and began calling Dr. Tsukasa to come over. Thankfully, he has the day off and can quickly come over to our house. [Congratulations!!! You have been selected as a participant of the ¡°World Reformation¡± Event!!!] I wonder what this means¡? ??????? A few minutes later, Dr. Tsukasa came over with his casual clothes on. He was a man in his prime who loved talking with other people and had a kind personality. ¡°Excuse me for intruding, Coli Bea.¡± ¡°Please don¡¯t be so formal Dr. Tsukasa. Come in please.¡± Dr. Tsukasa came inside our house after taking of his shoes and leaving it on the doorstep. It looks like his Japanese culture of leaving shoes outside still lingers. ¡°Good evening Bert. I heard that something unbelievable happen, but first, may I sit down?¡± ¡°Feel free.¡± ¡°Thank you.¡± Dr. Tsukasa laid his bottom on the couch and stared directly into my direction, mostly, into my legs. ¡°Bert, how did your legs grow back? As far as I¡¯m concerned, humans don¡¯t have the anatomy to regrow lost limbs like lizards.¡± Putting his hand on his chin and stroking his beard, his eyes behind his glasses tried to look deep inside my heart. ¡°Old man, your habits are showing up.¡± ¡°Oops, please forgive this old man.¡± He stifled up a chuckle while apologizing in a sarcastic manner. On the surface he seems to be a kind uncle, but on the inside, he is a researcher in the strictest of ways. His kind and talkative behavior is just a front to gather data from the patients, including me, but that¡¯s what makes him trustworthy. ¡°Anyways, I don¡¯t know how this happened. I only found out when I just woke up after fainting.¡± ¡°Oh my? Are you alright?¡± ¡°Do I look like I have any problems?¡± The exchange of sarcastic and toxic remarks came and went at the blink of an eye. This is our usual behavior when communicating when the two of us are alone. Bea is the only person who knows about our interactions with each other. ¡°But something tells me that there is something yet to be told from you. Are you hiding something?¡± The gaze that looks like it can go deep into your core and reveal all of your secrets pierce through me. ¡°You are an unlikable old man.¡± ¡°Why thank you.¡± Once again, he stifled up a chuckle. Bea wasn¡¯t listening to our conversation as she was preparing dinner for me and the guest. ¡°Moving on, do you know a phenomenon where a message appears in front of your eyes like a game?¡± ¡°Hmm¡?¡± Dr. Tsukasa made a curious face as he stared directly into my eyes. ¡°A game-like message¡ Do you mean a Dialogue Box like in RPG games?¡± ¡°Yes, that¡¯s the one.¡± ¡°As far as I know, none. Did the light refract, or did you just see a hallucination?¡± If another person heard what I said to Dr. Tsukasa and Bea, they would label me as a crazy person no doubt. Just as we were getting into the main point, the light went dark. ¡°Well damn¡ Another black out, this neighborhood really is special.¡± ¡°Oh shut up. Go back to Japan if this¡¯ inconvenience you that much.¡± The usual toxic remarks were exchanged within the dark while Bea was busy cooking with a flashlight in hand. Bam Bam Bam Suddenly, the earth shook. ¡°Earthquake!? It¡¯s strong!¡± ¡°Idiot kid, this isn¡¯t an earthquake!¡± ¡°Kyaaa!!!¡± A shout resounded within the kitchen while both of us were occupied with the shock the tremor. Dr. Tsukasa quickly went behind me and pushed the wheelchair towards the kitchen where the faint light from the flashlight showed a figure of a small green child holding a wooden spear piercing the leg of Bea. Blood oozed out from where the spear pierced and Bea held a pained expression while holding down her voice. What¡ WHAT ARE YOU¡ ¡°WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING TO MY SISTER!!!¡± ??????? [Starting Quest: Kill the Goblin 0 / 1] [Rewards: Beginner Package, 10 Stat Points, 10 Skill Points, Lucky Chest, Permission to Access Status Screen] Chapter 2 [Starting Quest: Kill the Goblin 0 / 1] [Rewards: Beginner Package, 10 Stat Points, 10 Skill Points, Lucky Chest, Permission to Access Status Screen] W¡ What the¡? My gaze focused on the string of messages displayed in front of my vision. As my rage was rocketing sky high right now, the appearance of the messages shocked me to hell. ¡°What the hell are you staring at idiot kid! Your sister is in danger!!¡± ¡°I- I know that despicable uncle!!¡± Thankfully, Dr. Tsukasa¡¯s harsh remark brought me back to the real world and I kindly returned words appropriate for this geezer. ¡°B-Bert!!¡± The pained voice and expression of Bea caused a ripple in my state of mentality. Pushing away the hands of Dr. Tsukasa who was still grabbing on to the wheelchair, I used the joystick to make it move forward. The wheelchair moved at about 12 Km/h which was by no means slow in this cramped space. I crashed into the goblin which was still holding the spear impaling the leg of Bea and caused the both of us to stumble. And by a stroke of luck, beside me laid a knife which was used by Bea when cutting vegetables, as judged because of the green leafy things on the edge. I picked the knife up and brought it up high even in my prone state. The goblin was struggling beneath me and took a bite at my neck. ¡°Arnghh!!¡± ¡°Gaahh!?¡± ¡°Bert!?¡± ¡°Idiot kid!!¡± The blood gushed out from my neck and into the mouth of the goblin. It seemed that it was enjoying the meal, but because of the pain, my actions faltered for a moment, and that moment was all that the goblin needed for a comeback. The goblin ripped out the flesh at my neck, causing more blood to ooze out, then its arm grabbed on my hand holding the knife, which I was about to let go because of the pain, and twisted my wrist. ¡°GAAAHHH!!!!¡± The sound of my scream and bones breaking caused Dr. Tsukasa to awaken from his daze and grabbed a chair next to him. Bea was still frightened and confused, as well as pained because of the spear lodged in her leg. ¡°Idiot kid!! Take this you damned demon!!¡± Dr. Tsukasa slammed the chair onto the goblins head, which was a hair¡¯s breadth away from mine. Surprisingly, or horrifyingly, the goblin withstood the attack and blood began oozing out from the wound on its face.Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon. ¡°Hshaaa!!!¡± The goblin twisted my wrist with more strength from before, causing my hand to turn at a horrifyingly wrong direction. ¡°Aggh¡ gaahh¡¡± The knife in my hands finally dropped to the floor. I was surprised at myself for holding it for so long during this struggle. Damn it¡ My consciousness was fading in and out, but I held it awake by my sheer will. I won¡¯t let it kill my sister, nor Dr. Tsukasa. With another surge of adrenaline, I used my other free hand to let go of the goblin and grab the knife on the floor. Just in time, Dr. Tsukasa managed to get another hit on its head with the chair, causing it to falter. That¡¯s it!!! ¡°Take¡ This¡!!¡± With a shout no louder than whisper, I brought the knife above and stabbed it in the eye. ¡°!!¡± And in just a moment, the goblin spasmed and drew in its last breath. [Congratulations on Completing the Quest!!] [Starting Quest: Kill the Goblin 1 / 1] [Rewards: Beginner Package, 10 Stat Points, 10 Skill Points, Lucky Chest, Permission to Access Status Screen] [Level Up!!!] [Rewards and Level Up Refresh will be given after one minute¡] After the sudden cease of movements from the goblin, my body let go if the adrenaline and plopped over the dead body of the goblin. ¡°Idiot kid! Stay with me!¡± ¡°Bert!! Bert!!!¡± Dr. Tsukasa ripped off a piece of cloth from his shirt and tried to use it as a bandaged over my wound on the neck. Thankfully, the wound didn¡¯t reach my windpipe, which would let me choke to death. But the bleeding was another story. ¡°Bert! Don¡¯t die!! Don¡¯t you dare die on me!!¡± Bea dragged her wounded leg with the spear still lodged inside and moved right next to me while tears were dropping down. It seems she was finally able to bring her mind back to earth when the goblin died. ¡°Aghh¡ haahhh¡¡± Damn it¡ Can I not speak¡? Because of the extreme pain in my neck and broken wrist, my voice couldn¡¯t come out properly. ¡°Bert! I¡¯m sorry!! I¡¯m sorry!!!¡± ¡°Shut up idiotic girl!! Stop apologizing and help me with this!!¡± Dr. Tsukasa ripped another part of cloth from his shirt and gave it to Bea, and ripped off another part and tried to stop the bleeding. ¡°Don¡¯t just sit there watching! Get a move on!!!¡± Dr. Tsukasa applied pressure on my wound to make it stop bleeding, while Bea, albeit clumsily, did the same. ¡°Actually you know what, stop what you¡¯re doing and get a first aid kit! After that, call an ambulance!!!¡± Seeing that Bea¡¯s movements where clumsy and could actually ruin a treatment instead of help, Dr. Tsukasa gave her another command while he frantically continued to stop the bleeding. So you are also flustered¡ [30 seconds left¡] Ahh¡ what is this¡? Is this a timer for my death¡? My eyes became unsteady and my consciousness was blacking out. I can only hold out for so long by pure will. ¡°Dr. Tsukasa! Here¡¯s the first-aid kit!! The hospitals aren¡¯t responding!!¡± ¡°What!?¡± When Dr. Tsukasa heard that the hospitals aren¡¯t responding, he momentarily stopped his movements, before resuming at a breakneck speed. ¡°Shit! I can¡¯t¡ He¡¯s lost too much blood!¡± ¡°No way¡¡± When Bea heard that, she dragged her body next to mine and held my non-injured hand. ¡°Bert¡ Don¡¯t die¡ Please¡¡± Her tears fell on the blood stained floor while she continued to pray. [10 seconds left¡] Ah shit¡ Everything went dark¡ The sounds won¡¯t register in my head anymore¡ I can¡¯t hear¡ I can¡¯t see¡ But I can still feel¡ I can feel Dr. Tsukasa trying his best to stop the bleeding, while Bea held my hand praying¡ Shit¡ Shit¡ SHIT!!! I won¡¯t die!!! I WILL NOT DIE!!! [Rewards and Level Up Refresh will be awarded¡] Suddenly, my body no longer felt pain and my vision returned.
