《The Divine Stone》 Chapter 1 - Return
Ya! Thank you for reading! I wanted to remind you that this is a work of fiction. I made up everything. It has nothing to do with reality. Country names are made up, cultures are stolen with some made up, and all that. Don¡¯t think too much into things. Enjoy! Author¡¯s Note

¡®Death ¡ª will there be a third one?¡¯Ling Feng thought as he looked at the headless body below, his body.¡®There was no need to be so cruel, was there? This bastard! he severed my head!¡¯ As his head fell to the ground, his thoughts came to an end ¡ª darkness devoured everything. ----- ¡°Doctor, how is my bro¡¯s condition?¡± A youth who looked to be around 17 ¨C 18 years old asked, ¡°It¡¯s already been a month, yet there¡¯s no sign of him waking up.¡± ¡°His condition is stable, and his injuries are also recovering normally,¡± A man in his 40¡¯s, wearing a white coat and gold-rimmed glasses, replied, ¡°He should be waking up any day now.¡± ¡°I hope it¡¯s as you say.¡± The youth said with an anguished expression, ¡°It¡¯s all my fault; I shouldn¡¯t have drunk so much that night.¡± Every time the youth remembered his brother jumping in front of the truck to save him, his heart warmed. But following the warmth was a great pain, guilt, and remorse. From drinking and playing around to his brother lying in the hospital, it happened in a few moments. Drunk, he was rambling aloud and staggering around on the footpath when the stupid he started to walk towards the road. Just when he walked a few steps, a truck rushed towards him at high speed, seemingly wanting to crush him. Though the truck driver braked as soon as he could, it was in vain. Right when the truck was going to smash him, someone pulled him with great force and threw him on the footpath behind him. After rolling on the ground, he sobered up. Immediately standing up, he looked ahead and felt as if someone smashed his head as his mind went blank. The truck had stopped, and a person lay some distance away from it, covered in blood. Looking carefully, it was his brother who was walking with him a few moments ago. ¡°Ambulance! someone call the ambulance!¡± Someone shouted, and a crowd immediately gathered around the young man lying on the ground. The youth also rushed towards his brother. By now, his mind had cleared up, and he could think clearly. Soon, the ambulance arrived and brought him and his brother to the hospital. The doctors immediately brought his brother to the emergency operation ward, while a nurse took him to another emergency ward. He only had some bruises on his body, and so, he was good to go after a regular checkup and some medicine. His brother suffered many external and internal injuries. Though the injuries didn¡¯t endanger his life, his head took some damage which sent him into a deep sleep. Even after a month, his brother didn¡¯t wake up. Anxiousness tortured the youth at all times. He and his brother had come to this city far away from their home to have some fun. He now thanked the gods that his brother made him turn off his phone before they left. Otherwise, he wouldn¡¯t know how to explain it to everyone back home. ----- ¡°Doctor, I will go check out my bro¡¯s condition.¡± The youth sighed and walked towards the door of the office, ¡°Thank you for your hard work!¡± ¡°It is what I should do,¡± Xu Dingfeng replied as he took off his glasses and placed them on the table before him, ¡°Let me know if your brother wakes up. I will also check on him again in the evening.¡± Leaving the doctor¡¯s office, the young man walked towards the elevator while thinking,¡®Wang Xiao, ah, Wang Xiao, what the fuck have you done! If something happens to Bro, you better forget about remaining in a single piece. Even if everyone else forgives you, Sis will certainly rip your limbs apart!¡¯ Thinking about his sister, his entire body shivered. Pressing the elevator¡¯s button, he soon entered the elevator and went to the third floor. Arriving at the entrance of the ward where his brother stayed, he pushed open the door and entered. In front of him lay a young man on the hospital bed, appearing to be in a peaceful sleep. ¡°Bro, when are you going to wake up? It¡¯s already been a month; everyone must be getting anxious back home. Ai, if I knew this would happen, I would have listened to father and gone to the company to learn from him.¡± Wang Xiao sat down on a stool next to the bed as he spoke, ¡°It¡¯s good there aren¡¯t any major scars, and your handsome face is also good as new. Otherwise, Sis, she would rip off my face¡¡±If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation. ¡°Aghh¡¡± Wang Xiao suddenly heard a grunt, and his words got stuck in his throat. He immediately jumped to his feet and looked at his brother. Ling Feng slowly opened his eyes in confusion.¡®What happened? Didn¡¯t I die just now?¡¯As these thoughts came to his mind, a bright light pierced his eyes. Ling Feng immediately closed his eyes and raised his hand to cover them. But the moment he tried to move his hand, pain coursed through his stiff body and his arm fell back. ¡°Awake! my Bro is awake!¡± Wang Xiao yelled in excitement and rushed out of his room, ¡°Doctor, nurse, my Bro woke up! Someone, quickly come and check my Bro¡¯s condition.¡± As Wang Xiao rushed out, he didn¡¯t even take the elevator and directly ran down the stairs. Ling Feng¡¯s mind, on the other hand, was confused.¡®This voice, it sounds familiar. Who is it? How come I am not dead? Didn¡¯t that little bastard, Xing Chang, severe my head? I am sure I die¡¡¯ As he tried to remember what transpired before, a sharp pain assaulted his mind and memories started to flood in ¡ª memories that he hadn¡¯t touched for a long time. The latest thing he remembered was saving his stupid drunk brother and getting hit by a truck. ¡®What the fuck is going on? That fucking Wang Xiao! Ai, I must rip a limb off his body!¡¯Ling Feng thought and sighed with some difficulty,¡®It seems I have returned. That familiar voice from before seemed to be that bastard, Wang Xiao.¡¯ Ling Feng had no difficulty accepting his current situation. He had died once and transmigrated into another world. In that dog eat dog world filled with Cultivators all around, he had fought his way to the peak. In the end, he died again ¡ª got murdered, to be precise. So, if he returned to the time before his transmigration, it wasn¡¯t that hard to accept it. He had heard legends of ancient gods that could alter or even reverse time. Probably, some ancient god took mercy and reversed time for him. ¡®Whatever, there¡¯s no use thinking of what has already transpired!¡¯He thought,¡®I should first arrange my memories.¡¯ ¡°Eh¡¡± The moment Ling Feng tried to arrange his memories, he realized that his memories before transmigration appeared to be very clear, but the memories after his transmigration seemed to be distant.¡®What happened?¡¯He was stunned by this discovery. It appeared as if someone artificially placed those memories in his mind, just like a memory inheritance. Though those memories belonged to him, he didn¡¯t feel attached to them. But after thinking for a while, he heaved a sigh. It was no different from the time he had first transmigrated. At that time, his memories from before were just like this. Though they were his own, he didn¡¯t feel attached to them.¡®It seems to be a side-effect of transmigration. Well, there¡¯s no harm done anyway. Not like I had any attachment left in that world. LingLing was not by my¡¡¯ ¡°LingLing!¡± The moment he remembered the name deeply branded on his soul, Ling Feng immediately sat up with a shout, with his hand reaching out. But soon, pain assaulted his entire body as he swayed. Just at this moment, Wang Xiao also returned to the ward with the doctor, Xu Dingfeng, following behind him. Seeing Ling Feng¡¯s pained expression and his swaying body, Wang Xiao rushed to support him. ¡°Bro, don¡¯t get up.¡± Wang Xiao helped Ling Feng lay back down and said, ¡°Doctor Xu is here. Let him check your condition first.¡± Wang Xiao then stood to the side and gestured towards Xu Dingfeng, ¡°Please¡¡± Xu Dingfeng came to the side of the bed and took Ling Feng¡¯s pulse. After doing some routine checks and confirming that there were no major problems, he said to Wang Xiao, ¡°His externals wounds will not cause any issues. His internal injuries have also recovered by a great margin. Only, his body is very stiff and will be in pain for a while when he tries to move. He should be alright after a few days of rehabilitation. I will take my leave now. You can come to me if there¡¯s anything.¡± [Note: I made this up, just like everything else, so don¡¯t take it seriously.] ¡°Thank you, doctor!¡± Wang Xiao then walked the doctor outside. After saying a few more words, he returned to the room and sat near the bed and asked Ling Feng, ¡°Bro, are you alright? You don¡¯t feel any discomfort anywhere, right? Can you feel all of your limbs? How about your vision, hearing, smell, taste, and sound? What about your little brother, does it sta¡¡± ¡°Shut up!¡± Ling Feng said in a low voice, ¡°Little bastard, if not for you, would I be in this condition? Ai, those novels aren¡¯t trustworthy at all! Where¡¯s my new life in a new world, where are the beauties, where are the godly treasures! Bastard, Truck-kun, I got tricked!¡± He seemed to have forgotten the hundreds of years spent in the other world. ¡°Bro, you wouldn¡¯t have gone insane, right?¡± Listening to Ling Feng blabbering nonsense, Wang Xiao felt that his brother¡¯s brain might have shortcircuited after the accident. What new life? What beauties? What treasures? It was already great that he got to keep this life. How could the Truck-kun in real life be so magical? ¡°Fuck you! You are the one who has gone insane!¡± Ling Feng asked, ¡°How long have I slept for?¡± ¡°Hehe, Bro, it seems you are still my Bro. I was worried some old bastard might have taken over your body!¡± Wang Xiao also joked and said, ¡°It¡¯s already been a month.¡± ¡°A month?¡± Ling Feng was stunned, ¡°Fucked! We are fucked!¡± ¡°Eh? What happened, Bro? Are you worried about the people back home?¡± Wang Xiao asked. Though they had been away for a month and a half, their situation wasn¡¯t that bad, right? They could just think up some excuse. Why was his Bro getting so worked up?
Ya! I hope you liked this. Don¡¯t forget to leave a comment. And don¡¯t feel shy or bad when leaving criticism. Honest criticism is most welcome.
Chapter 2 - Real or False ¡°We missed it,¡± Ling Feng¡¯s lips twitched, ¡°We missed the Witch¡¯s birthday! She is going to kill us!¡± ¡°Ah!¡± Wang Xiao shot to his feet as his face turned pale, ¡°This time¡ we are gone. Sis ¡ª she will break my bones and drink my blood.¡± Wang Xiao clutched his hair with his shivering hands, ¡°Not only did I cause you an accident, but we also missed her birthday. She already warned us of the consequences!¡± ¡°Let me think,¡± Ling Feng replied. But the moment he remembered that beautiful yet cold face, the evil smile and malevolent eyes, he shivered, ¡°Let¡¯s not go back.¡± ¡°Let¡¯s do that,¡± Wang Xiao bum fell back on the stool, ¡°How about we leave the country for a while?¡± ¡°Sounds good¡¡± Both men fell silent. In this world, only she could terrify them to the extent of wanting to flee from the country. Oh, the pain, the torture. Having a bruised body and a dislocated arm or foot was getting off easy; every time she trained with them, she broke a few of their bones. On their worst days, Ling Feng laid in bed for half a year, and he was the one who got off easy. Poor Wang Xiao, he fared much worse and had to stay in bed for a year. When Ling Feng got smashed by the truck, Wang Xiao wasn¡¯t too worried about his life. He knew Ling Feng would be alright so long as there was a single breath remaining in him ¡ª his Sis had trained him quite well. His biggest worry was how to explain the matter to his Sis. His Sis was too terrifying. Though she would beat them up now and then, she was very protective of Ling Feng. Besides her, no one was allowed to lay hands on him. Wang Xiao remembered his cousin¡¯s fate. That stupid cousin of his beat Ling Feng when they were young; in return, his Sis directly crippled his right arm. Poor guy, couldn¡¯t even get revenge for himself and had to swallow the injustice. After all, no one asked him to provoke the demoness of the Wang Family. ¡°It seems my fate is determined,¡± Wang Xiao took in a cold breath, ¡°Bro, do look after my family when I am gone,¡± his expression was similar to a soldier going to his final battle. ¡°Sucker, don¡¯t show me that expression of having seen through life and death! Don¡¯t worry, I will coax the Witch when we return,¡± Ling Feng raised his hand with some difficulty and slapped Wang Xiao¡¯s head, ¡°She might just leave you with half of your life.¡± ¡°I am counting on you then, Bro¡¡± Wang Xiao replied with a faint voice. He didn¡¯t have much hope in Ling Feng. Ignoring what Wang Xiao thought, Ling Feng, himself, felt he was spouting nonsense. Coax the Witch? Saving his limbs would already be a miracle. ¡®Damn, if I knew this would happen, I would just stake my life against that guy¡¡¯ ¡®Wait, why am I so afraid of the Witch?¡¯ Ling Feng slapped his forehead, ¡®I am the Saint Emperor, the strongest Cultivator in the Saint Emperor¡¯s World! Even if I got murdered, it took all the powers of the world and the Saint Burial Array to put me to death! Why am I still afraid of a little girl?¡¯ With these thoughts in mind, Ling Feng felt confident. For him, what can be worse than death? He had experienced death twice already. Moreover, no matter how evil the Witch, she will certainly not deal a heavy blow to him, she still cared for him this much, right?A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation. ¡°I am going to sleep for a while,¡± Ling Feng yawned and said to Wang Xiao sitting beside him, ¡°The sun has already set, so let¡¯s leave the hospital tomorrow.¡± ¡°Okay¡¡± Agreeing to Ling Feng¡¯s words, Wang Xiao stood up from the stool. With his head hung low and his mood dropped to the abyss, he walked towards the extra bed just a few steps away from Ling Feng¡¯s and lay down. Now that Ling Feng was awake, they couldn¡¯t not go home. And once they returned home, they were destined to get beaten up again. He believed getting hit by Truck-kun would have been much better. At least, that way, his Sis will not take out her anger on him. Since Ling Feng already had injuries, his Sis will let him off lightly. He, Wang Xiao, on the other hand, will be one taking most of the punishment. ¡®Hopefully, she won¡¯t throw me in hell! Ai, why did I have to be born in that family?¡¯ Under the caress of faint moonlight, poor Wang Xiao finally fell asleep. He might as well rest and then enjoy himself while he still could. Everything else could wait for when they returned to the Capital. ----- What was real? What was false? He felt that everything after his transmigration happened just a moment ago, while it also seemed to have been eras since then. It was this feeling he didn¡¯t like. Did he transmigrate? Could it all just be a dream? He couldn¡¯t tell the difference. The memories were there, and they were clear without any fog covering them. So why was he having such a feeling? He tried his best to recall the time when he first transmigrated. At that time, he seemed to have felt the same, just that, it was much stronger this time. ¡®Right, feelings! it¡¯s all about feelings and emotions!¡¯ This thought suddenly appeared in his mind, ¡®Though the memories are there, the feelings and emotions attached to them are gone!¡¯ ¡®Forget it, not like I had any attachment to that world before my death!¡¯ Ling Feng shook his head and sighed, ¡®My LingLing was already not by my side, so I have nothing to fret over now. Since I am back and the Natural Energies on Earth aren¡¯t that concentrated, I will live a good life here.¡¯ As Ling Feng was thinking about different things, he felt the pain in his body decrease at a rapid pace. Soon, the pain disappeared. With such a sudden change, Ling Feng was shocked. Just a few moments ago, his entire body was pained. Although it wasn¡¯t intolerable, it was still there, and it was annoying him quite a bit. How come it disappeared without any precursor? Ling Feng immediately sat up and looked at his body. The scene before his eyes shocked him. Moonlight covered his body, healing it at a rapid speed. The scars started getting fainter and fainter until they disappeared. His internal injuries ¡ª though he couldn¡¯t see them, he felt they were also getting healed. He felt as if he was in a warm embrace. ¡®What is going on? What sorcery is this?¡¯ Ling Feng wondered if his eyes deceived him or his mind crashed, ¡®I have never heard of moonlight healing someone!¡¯ ¡®Right,¡¯ Ling Feng immediately thought of Spiritual Sense and closed his eyes, directing his spirit inside his body. In the beginning, he didn¡¯t have much hope, but the moment he tried it, he was surprised that he could see the changes happening inside his body. The moonlight that covered him was everywhere inside as well, healing his internals at a rapid pace. But what was most surprising was the fact that it all seemed to concentrate in one direction, one point, to be precise. Looking at all the moonlight concentrate on that point, Ling Feng felt his heart jump with excitement. Although he just decided to live a good life and forget about Cultivation, it was because he didn¡¯t sense any Natural Energies in the atmosphere. But if he could Cultivate, then that would be for the best. How would Ling Feng understand that though there were Natural Energies on Earth, not just anyone could make use of them. It was just a coincidence and great luck that he was able to absorb those Natural Energies. Focusing his spirit on the point concentrated with moonlight, Ling Feng smashed it with all his might. ¡°Boom!¡± Immediately, an explosion sounded inside his body as his mind went blank. Other than darkness, there was only darkness. He fell back to the bed, unconscious. Chapter 3 - Smart Man ¡°Doctor Xu, why is my Bro not waking up again,¡± An anxious voice drifted into Ling Feng¡¯s ears, rousing him from his sleep, ¡°He was well awake last night, talking to me normally!¡± ¡°Young man, I, too, have the same questions as you,¡± the old man frowned as he checked the condition of the young man, ¡°All of his external injuries and scars have healed; even his internal injuries have disappeared without leaving behind any sequela. It is also my first time witnessing something like this. I can¡¯t think¡¡± The old man¡¯s words got stuck in his mouth as his entire body trembled and fear appeared in his eyes, ¡°Unless, he¡¡± He dared not say it out loud. ¡°Doctor Xu, what is it? Just say it!¡± Wang Xiao¡¯s anxiousness increased, and he yelled at the doctor, ¡°Unless what?¡± Wang Xiao was being tormented by anxiousness for quite some time. After waking up early in the morning, Wang Xiao freshened up and then hurried to the nearby market, some distance away from the hospital, to get breakfast for himself. It had become his routine while staying in the hospital for an entire month. After he had his breakfast and was about to return, he suddenly recalled that his Bro had already woken up last night. Immediately, he returned to the market and bought some light food for his brother. Since the market was near a hospital, there were a lot of people who came to buy food for patients, so finding something for his brother wasn¡¯t a big deal. There were quite a few shops selling food that suited patients. Paying for the food, he rushed back to the hospital and arrived at the ward where he and his Bro stayed. Entering, he realized that his Bro was still asleep. At first, he didn¡¯t care much as it was only 7 in the morning. Since his brother only woke up last night, it was normal for him to sleep longer because of weakness. But even after waiting a few hours, his Bro didn¡¯t wake up. There was no movement from him, and he appeared to be the same as when he was in a deep sleep. Wang Xiao started to get anxious and immediately went to Ling Feng¡¯s side and tried to wake him up, but his efforts were to no avail. No matter how much he shouted, Ling Feng didn¡¯t wake up. Wang Xiao only shouted for him to wake up, he dared not push him awake, afraid of worsening his injuries. His anxiousness increased with every passing moment, and he immediately rushed to get Doctor Xu. After Doctor Xu came with him to check his Bro¡¯s condition, his words shocked Wang Xiao. His Bro¡¯s internal and external injuries had already healed miraculously, all the scars had disappeared, and his health was even better than before. But even then, he was still asleep. Wang Xiao couldn¡¯t accept this. Since he was better than before, why was he still not awake. ¡°Young man, there are some things that I can¡¯t say, and you shouldn¡¯t ask either,¡± Xu Dingfeng sighed, ¡°Sometimes, not knowing is better than knowing, lest you bring a disaster upon you¡¡± ¡°Cough!¡± As Xu Dingfeng was speaking, his words were interrupted by a low coughing sound. Immediately, both Xu Dingfeng and Wang Xiao¡¯s vision shifted toward¡¯s the young man lying on the bed beside them. The young man slowly opened his eyes. ¡°Bro! you are awake,¡± Wang Xiao exclaimed with joy, ¡°Thank god! you are awake. If you didn¡¯t wake up, I wouldn¡¯t know what to do!¡± Wang Xiao felt his heart become lighter. The anxiousness eating at his mind disappeared as well. Since his Bro woke up, he couldn¡¯t care less about Doctor Xu¡¯s inexplicable nonsense. ----- Ling Feng had already become conscious some time ago. He could hear everything around him. Since he was already awake, he decided to check his body¡¯s internal condition first. But, before he could carefully examine himself, he realized Doctor Xu had started to spout incomprehensible nonsense, while Wang Xiao¡¯s voice now had a hint of irritation inside it. Ling Feng knew well of his Bro, Wang Xiao¡¯s, temper. Don¡¯t look at this guy¡¯s stupid appearance and worried expression, that was only before Ling Feng and his Sis. In reality, this guy was all brawn and no brain; very impatient, too. It sounded harsh, but it was the truth.Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author. If Doctor Xu wasn¡¯t checking Ling Feng¡¯s condition, this guy might have started to fight the old man in his impatience. Ling Feng was afraid of him getting too impatient and smacking the old doctor, so he immediately coughed to get their attention. As for Xu Dingfeng¡¯s nonsense, he didn¡¯t understand either. All he understood was that his injuries were gone, just like he predicted last night before being knocked unconscious. ----- Ling Feng sat up and reclined on the back of the bed. He yawned and stretched his body, ¡°What happened? I was having a nice sleep.¡± He looked towards Wang Xiao and asked lazily, ¡°What are you so anxious for?¡± When he woke up last night, he didn¡¯t take a good look at Wang Xiao. Only now, with all his injuries and pain gone, did he look at him carefully. The once energetic and enthusiastic guy had thinned a lot, his complexion was much paler, his hair was in a mess, and under his eyes were dark circles. He looked much worse than before; he looked like an abandoned pup ¡ª well, that¡¯s how he appeared in Ling Feng¡¯s eyes. No one else would think like that. It seemed that this guy was quite worried about him and didn¡¯t get any good sleep or food over the last month. ¡®Ai, if only I had such good brothers before, I wouldn¡¯t have ended up like that.¡¯ Ling Feng thought with a sigh as he remembered his bitter end. ¡°Bro, aren¡¯t I anxious for you,¡± Wang Xiao immediately sat on the stool beside Ling Feng¡¯s bed and cried with a wronged expression, ¡°I thought you weren¡¯t going to wake up again! Bro, if something happened to you, I wouldn¡¯t be able to forgive myself!¡± ¡°Alright,¡± Ling Feng patted Wang Xiao on his head and said with a tone of an elder brother talking to his little brother, ¡°Didn¡¯t Doctor Xu say all my injuries have healed already? There¡¯s no need to be worried anymore; I feel even better than before.¡± After speaking to a few more words to Wang Xiao, Ling Feng turned to the old doctor standing on the side, ¡°Thank you, Doctor Xu, for your care!¡± ¡°Ah, no need, no need, I only did my job!¡± Doctor Xu immediately waved his hands and said, ¡°I only played a minor role. It was Sir¡¯s natural ability to recover that played the most crucial role!¡± Being thanked by the man in front of him made Doctor Xu feel overwhelmed. He didn¡¯t dare put on any airs. In his mind, he had already believed that the young man before him was one of those special yet scary people he had heard about before.
Looking at the old man¡¯s inexplicable actions, Ling Feng and Wang Xiao were stunned. ¡®What the heck happened? This guy wouldn¡¯t have gone insane, right?¡¯ was the thought they both had. Neither of them could make heads or tails of his actions. Especially Wang Xiao, this guy was thoroughly stunned by the respectful expression of Doctor Xu. He was the one who dealt with this old guy the most. Although the old guy wasn¡¯t arrogant, he still had the air of superiority around him, seeming as if he was an old sage who had seen through life and death. Yet now, here he was, acting so respectful! Even though Wang Xiao was all brawn, he was still someone from an aristocratic family. The old man before him had the exact expression, that others made before his Sis and father, of fear and reverence. ¡®Damn! Just when did Bro become so great? He subdued this old man without even acting! Respect!¡¯ Wang Xiao¡¯s respect for Ling Feng increased by a notch. ¡®Indeed, my Bro is the greatest! He even subdued the great me, so what is this old man?¡¯ Thinking ¡¯till here, Wang Xiao started to laugh in his heart. Ling Feng, on the other hand, couldn¡¯t understand what was going on. This old guy didn¡¯t sound so respectful yesterday, so how come he changed so much in a single night? Or was he just like this and he, Ling Feng, failed to see it yesterday? Whatever, since he was respectful, it was a good thing. Now, the only thing remaining was how to explain his sudden recovery. Heck! Even he didn¡¯t quite understand what happened last night. ¡°Doctor, about my injuries¡¡± Ling Feng decided to test the waters and see what the old man thought about his recovery. But before he could finish his words, he was interrupted by Xu Dingfeng¡¯s words.
Listening to Xu Dingfeng¡¯s words, Ling Feng was stunned, Wang Xiao was even more stunned. Xu Dingfeng, on the other hand, praised himself in his heart for being a smart man. Chapter 4 - Xu Dingfengs Encounter Though Ling Feng was stunned for a short while, he immediately recovered as a smile appeared on his face. ¡®It seems this old guy is very understanding of others,¡¯ he thought, ¡®he knows what to do and when to do it! A smart man, indeed.¡¯ The only thing Ling Feng wasn¡¯t sure about was what this old guy wanted in return. He didn¡¯t believe there was any free lunch in the world; everything had a price. So, he couldn¡¯t help but ask, ¡°Doctor Xu, I wonder what you want in return?¡± As Ling Feng said this, his eyes focused on Xu Dingfeng¡¯s face, waiting to see his expression. But contrary to Ling Feng expectation, instead of having an expression of having achieved his goal, it was now the old guy¡¯s turn to be stunned. What did he want? What could he ask for from a great person? He decided to help Ling Feng keep the secret out of impulse, respect, and fear. There was no other intention involved. He wasn¡¯t tired of living; he still had his grandchildren to look after. ¡°Respected Sir, this old Xu has no such intention,¡± Xu Dingfeng was horrified as he tried to explain himself, ¡°Sir, there¡¯s nothing I want in return. You can rest assured that I know what should and shouldn¡¯t be said.¡± As for why Xu Dingfeng was so respectful, it was all because of his experience and encounter when he was younger and had just graduated from medical college. ----- Xu Dingfeng remembered that time from 30 years ago. It all seemed to be something that happened yesterday. All those years ago, he had gone back to his family village to pay respect to his ancestors. It was a custom that once a descendant achieved success in something, he/she would return to the family village to pay respect to their ancestors. When he was done honoring the ancestors, he went out to roam around. Author¡¯s Note: He was visiting the graves of his grandparents and his other family members who had passed away. While roaming around aimlessly, he ended up on a desolate hill near the village. The sky had already turned dark by now. As he walked around, a vomit inducing smell assaulted his nostrils. Wrinkling his nose, he decided to leave the place. He had assumed that there was some dead animal ahead since he could smell blood. He turned around and was about to walk away when suddenly, a thud sounded behind him. Xu Dingfeng jumped ahead with a fright. Getting in a fighting stance, he looked behind him. There, the scene he saw stunned him. In front of him lay a man, bruised, cut and bloodied. A tight black outfit covered his body. Blood smeared his face and clothing. Everywhere on his body were deep cuts, while some of his hair was burnt or cut. He looked pitiful and on the verge of death. Looking at the injured man, Xu Dingfeng could tell that the smell of blood originated from him. Xu Dingfeng felt conflicted in his heart on what to do with the man. Albeit barely, he knew the man was alive; his fingers and face twitched now and then. ¡®Save him,¡¯ A voice sounded in his heart. ¡®Ignore him,¡¯ Another voice sounded, ¡®Certainly, he¡¯s not a good person.¡¯ ¡®Good or not, what does that have to do with you?¡¯ The first voice sounded again, ¡®Save him, for that¡¯s the job of a doctor!¡¯ ¡®Before a doctor, you are a person,¡¯ The second voice sounded, ¡®With his appearance, he must have murdered quite a few people! What if he murdered you as well? What will your family do?¡¯ ¡®Save him!¡¯ The first voice roared. ¡®Leave! He has nothing to do with you!¡¯ The second voice roared louder. While Xu Dingfeng was struggling inside, a hoarse and emotionless voice sounded, ¡°Leave!¡± The voice immediately brought Xu Dingfeng out of his stupor, also letting him make a decision, ¡°Screw it, I can¡¯t let him die here!¡± Having decided on what to do, Xu Dingfeng went forward and picked up the man with his trembling hands. Even though the smell of blood was unbearable for a young man like him, he clenched his teeth and did his best not to vomit. If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation. ¡°Leave! Don¡¯t get involved¡¡± The man¡¯s hoarse voice sounded again, but before he could finish his words, he started to cough fiercely. ¡°Cough! Cough! Cough!" ¡°Sir, you shouldn¡¯t speak. I am a doctor; I know what I am doing!¡± Xu Dingfeng replied to the man resolutely. ¡°We will arrive at my home soon! Once there, I will tend to your injuries.¡± ¡°Boy, you are still young and Cough! Cough! Cough! naive,¡± The man said to Xu Dingfeng, ¡°What does a dying man like me have to do with you? Your actions are plain foolish in my eyes! Cough! Cough!Cough! When have I asked for your help? Put me down and go your own way!¡± ¡°SHUT THE FUCK UP!¡± Xu Dingfeng felt angry and roared, ¡°Put you down? So you can die on the road?¡± Xu Dingfeng felt that this man¡¯s head was kicked by a mule, ¡°Since I discovered you then if I left you by yourself and you died, won¡¯t your death keep on eating on my conscience! I am a doctor; it is my duty to save the injured no matter what my fate!¡± After listening to the young man¡¯s roar, the black-clothed injured man could only sigh and close his mouth. With his current condition, speaking a few words was already very hard, and he had worsened some of his injuries while speaking with Xu Dingfeng. In the end, he was at the mercy of someone else. Without having the ability to move, he could do nothing but let the young man carry him. Just like that, Xu Dingfeng brought the man back home. There, he treated the man¡¯s injuries by borrowing medicine and stuff from the local clinic. The old doctor there was Xu Dingfeng¡¯s neighbor and didn¡¯t mind lending stuff to him. ¡®Since the child had grown up and also become a doctor, it was okay for him to want to play around with medical stuff!¡¯ is what the old doctor thought. Every day, Xu Dingfeng took care of the black-clothed man he had picked up out of impulse. While he tended to the man¡¯s injuries, Xu Dingfeng was surprised to find out that the man¡¯s injuries healed quite fast. The injuries that would otherwise take a few months to heal disappeared in less than two weeks. It was something beyond Xu Dingfeng¡¯s comprehension. He had never heard of such healing speed. Only then did Xu Dingfeng realize that he might have saved some special person. The man was able to walk around after a few days, and in just two weeks, he was good as new. There wasn¡¯t even a scar left on his body. Soon, the time for the man to take his leave arrived. Before he left, though, he told Xu Dingfeng about some matters that were otherwise not known to the people of the world. He warned Xu Dingfeng that he must never reveal anything about him, to stay away from situations and people like the one he encountered before. And that it wasn¡¯t his duty to save the dying and heal the sick without caring for his life. There were a lot of people in the world who could kill him without leaving even a bone behind. And he also let him know that the reason his injuries healed was that there were people in the world who had special abilities. They were a group of bloodthirsty and scary people ¡ª people he should never provoke or get involved with. If he, Xu Dingfeng, ever met someone like him, he better stay clear of their way. Otherwise, he wouldn¡¯t even know how he died. Even if he didn¡¯t care about himself, he still had to think about people related to him. If he had saved someone evil, and not him, the black-clothed man, then it was possible that that person would kill him to keep his identity a secret. In the end, after reprimanding young Xu Dingfeng for a while, the now healed unknown man left, never to be seen again. The only thing he left behind for Xu Dingfeng was an expensive jade necklace. He hoped Xu Dingfeng would sell it and get enough money to live a carefree life. Xu Dingfeng, on the other hand, kept the necklace as a memento. It was that necklace which kept him on the right path all along, reminding him of the choice he made that day, the right choice. Remembering the past, Xu Dingfeng couldn¡¯t help but sigh. It had already been 30 years since then. The man must have also grown old, older than him. He sometimes wondered what became of the man. He was, after all, the first person whose life he had saved. ----- Looking at Xu Dingfeng¡¯s aged face and gentle sigh filled with melancholy, Ling Feng realized that he had misunderstood the man before him. He didn¡¯t have any ulterior motives, after all. It was hard to find people like that. Ling Feng was sure if the person in front of him was someone else, he would have freaked out and spread the word all over the city by now. Even if he didn¡¯t do that, he would ask for benefits to keep his mouth shut. ¡®He¡¯s a good doctor!¡¯ Ling Feng thought to himself. ¡°Doctor Xu, pardon me for I misunderstood you,¡± Ling Feng sincerely apologized to Xu Dingfeng. Hearing Ling Feng¡¯s sincere words, Xu Dingfeng knew that he had thought too much. The young man before him wasn¡¯t a bad person. Instead, he might be like the man he had saved in the past, kind at heart. So he laughed and said, ¡°Sir, then this old Xu will take his leave. You can stay here for as long as you wish.¡± With those words, Xu Dingfeng turned around and left the room, closing the door behind him.
