It even sounds androgynous from what I can hear, though I don''t think slimes don''t have gender. "How do you know English?" ""English"? Is that food?" "... It''s the language we''re using." "... "Language"?... Is that also food?" "If you don''t mind, do you think there are any literal differences between talking, speaking, and communicating?" "Umm... No?" "Hmm... I see. Thanks." "... You''re weird. I''ll just... eat somewhere." "Ok, be safe. By the way, my name''s Samuel. What''s yours?" nudged like something is trying to rip the dead drake''s flesh. It hoped to use its skin as camouflage to catch it after a glimpse of where he went, but it should learn that it''ll take more than a half-hearted surprise to do so. "I just can''t fit inside moron!" "Coward coward coward coward coward coward!" "You''re the one hiding! You''re the coward!" "Then makes you a dog-brained mutt!" "Keep barking! Fits for a dumb animal like you! " Good, it''s not digging, he thought, shaping his knife at the fastest pace possible while being precise at the best as he can be. "Sigh... look," There wasn''t any reason as to not try this diplomatic route. "Can''t we just separate in our ways and call it a day? I don''t think you or your whole pack can even eat all of that meat." "Are you suggesting we share when you make anything disgusting?!" "If it wasn''t for your kind, we wouldn''t have had to suffer starvation!" call its brothers, Samuel sensed it was telling them to hurry. It had a hint of smugness on its jaw. Its remaining eye shows that there''s no chance of escape. He was afraid it was right: His cave entrance is large enough to welcome intruders, and explorefarther is a gamble with life. "Can''t handle me alone, huh?" "Bark!" "Smart slime." "Fuck." "Some stiff ears you... got there. Ow," He wheezed, but he barely felt anything, indicating slimes maynot be sensitive to pain. Though that doesn''t mean nothing hurts. "When was the last time slimes becametroublesome?!"Its snarl turned into a smile upon seeing his paralyzed state, joyful to look at the slime itching to move."Ah, finally! I was starting to think this farcewill never end. What a nightmare that''d be." "No... no no no no NO,"His desolate pleas were heard by nothing. Whatever happened, something broke inside him. It could have been his little stunt might have strained him."This can''t be my end." He muttered. He saw the wolf strolled confidently, whose steps brought thoughts of his end. "You."
"I can''t believe I''m saying this... but,"The world has mysteries that cannot be unveiled, with some better left unearthed, and experiencing an inferior monster giving it a hard time shows the old wolf has still so much to see, "you''ve fought well, slime. Be honored." "H-Hey! D-Don''t mess with my buddy!" "There''s two of you now!?"When the wolf''s head twist to the right, the blade, lodged in its left eye socket, was exposed to its vulnerability. "... Should''ve waited for your friends." "You''re alive! I thought you were dead!" Well, it wasn''t exactly farfetched to say that he was dead. The slime hopped towards Samuel, excitedly bouncing as it kept squealing with burning enthusiasm."And you''re not just alive, but you killed it! How in the world did you do that!? How?! Please, tell me how! Pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease-" "Shush... tired," It has been a while since he faced his limits. Last time was much worse, recalling his drill sergeant who drove him crazy. "O-Oh dear! You must be exhausted!" "Duh..." "Those slimes!" "They could be shapeshifters!" "Hey... you," He whispered to his fellow. He''s got a plan, and the success rate all depends on it. "Y-Yeah?" "Walk up to them." "What?!" "You want to live? Walk towards them... trust me." "I''m... I''m... I''m... I''m alive." "Hey, your name... is Samuel, right?" "Yeah..." "Are you really a slime?" "Yes... I am." Welcome, Sam. "Are you really a slime?" different. "Yes... I am." "Then, please! Teach me everything! "Umm, hello?" "... Oh dear." "Don''t die on me!" "... Ow." "Yes! You''re not dead... again!" "That''s an interesting way of saying I''m still alive." "Well, you almost had to die twice!" again when he got incapacitated, and if it wasn''t for his fellow slime''s convincing act, almost ripped apart by a pack of wolves. "Sigh. Thank you... for your help back there." "Never mind that! How did you even kill that thing!?" "Stabbed its brain, plain and simple." "... "Stabbed"? "Brain"?" "Look. This is going to be sudden, but I want to spend less time explaining. There''s just no telling when other monsters would knock on our doors uninvited once they noticed that gigantic lizard corpse.I know that this makes me sound like some obnoxious CEO, but if we want to survive together I need you to follow my orders... Will you join me?" "Yes!" "Then I need you to try making this." "This is what I used to kill it," He waved the primitive weapon. If he wasn''t proud of presenting his humble creation, that''d be a bit of a lie. "Woaaah. You did it with that thing? How?" "Here," He put the blade to the ground in front for it to grab. "Well? You wanna take a better look or what?" "What?" "What do you mean "what"? You have my permission to touch it," Is there anything that it didn''t understand? Was there an error in his telepathy? His knowledge about how it works is limited, being that whatever he says is converted into a message the other party can understand. "Touch? As in... eat it?" "Hey Sage," He untethered his mental connection to it, hoping it wouldn''t hear his private conversation. "Care to shed some light?" [Unlike you who had hands in your previous life, I believe that your friend has no concept of "grabbing". With your race digestion method being through simple skin contact, it may have confused the action "touch" with "eat".] "Ahh. That makes sense." "I think I know what part you misunderstood." "Huh?" "Observe." "When I say touch, you just try to stick it on your body." "... Uhuuuuuh." "And what I did earlier, as you may or may not have seen, is that I threw it by whipping a limb," He extended a tentacle with the pebble at the tip, then swing it to throw a few meters. Seeing so made it gasp, it was something it never saw before. "What?! That''s how you did it? Can I do that?!" "... Don''t tell me you''re serious." "You''re serious," And there was nothing more serious than his voice. "Now try it." "Agh! How can you do it so easily?" "Hey, Sam! Come here, I need your help." "Sam?" "Yeah, I''m not exactly creative at naming." "Wait, my name''s now... "Sam"?" "What? You don''t like it?" "I... I really love it! It''s like the shortened version of yours! Thank you!" "Anywho... I have a task for you." "Right away!" "Sigh." "Is there somethin-" "Hold this thing." "That''s called a knife. Do you see those edges? Under no circumstances that you do NOT touch them." "Stand on its back." "Stab its nape." "Nape?" "This part." "Aim the tip down, thenpush the knife downwards ashardas you can. It''s not that hard, right?" "Ha... HahaHAHA!" "No... No! No no no no NO!" "Listen. It''s ok." "It''s "ok"?! IT''S "OK"?! I BROKE THE ONLY THING THAT YOU USED TO FIGHT! I SHATTERED THE FUTURE WHERE I COULD''VE BEEN A QUEEN! HOW CAN THAT BE OK?! I''M SORRY! I''M SO SORRY! I''m so sorry! I''m so sorry I''m so-" "Hmm... not that one... or that one... Ooh! That one''s a bit wide. Should be good for skinning." You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version. "And there we go... done. Hey Sam!" "Yes... I know. I''m so careless and pathetic... I endangered both of our lives... What I have done is unforgivable... I''m sorry." "I said it''s ok you dramatic dimwit. Were burning a lot of time," He spat his newly made creation in front of Sam. "Gasp! You can make more?!" "Yes. Though it takes some effort." "Gasp! Can I have it!?" "You can have it if you want." "Gasp! Thank you!" "Then canwe PLEASE GET ON WITH IT?" "Hey, Sam. This might be a bit too late to ask, but," He was chewing a stone, a big one he couldn''t fully absorb. Their knives can cut meat, but not bones. They''ll need something heavy to chop its limbs. He was thinking an axehead would do well, by raising it up together and dropping like a guillotine. But there was one thing that still bothers him, "Where did you hide when I was fighting?" "I hid in a hole." "Hole? You mean a burrow?" "No. Like the drake''s hole." "Wait... what hole." Work for the future "Why would you do that?!" "Why would I do what?" "Your hiding strategy! What else?!" "... Because it works?" "Don''t you feel sickened being... in there, even for a bit?" He tries to understand why it would do so, and hearing its reply that "It works", he came to a sudden conclusion - If there''s anything that "normal" animals with a sense of smell would like to avoid, it''s the stench of toxins and waste. Sam simply did it for its own survival, to enter a place that no one would dare explore. "... Yes... very much." Sam mutters in a somber tone. If it was verbal, he couldn''t have heard anything. But mental communication makes every message clear and concise, regardless of everything. He felt unprepared hearing it like that, as most of the time it uses a chipper voice. "The first time I did so... I wanted to die that time," That caught his interest. Sam takes four rock knives from a small pile he already prepared and does its job like a loyal servant. It butchers the skinless wolf with skills below an amateur. He strictly instructed how to do it earlier, without expecting professional performance. Though simultaneously slicing with four blades was already exceptional. "It was somewhere back then when I came across a big battle. I just watched... Soon later when the victor had its fill and scampered away, I took the risk. I knew that big food attracts big groups, but I didn''t care at that time, I was just too hungry. Then they came... a small scouting group. They look much like this guy right here." "But they were a bit bigger, and they had this... big knife thingy near their snout." "That''s interesting," With that description, a dog-like animal with a rhino''s horn was brought by his imagination. "Yes... very interesting... I guess? But that''s not the point. Point is, I was in a really wide open place. There was nowhere to run. Then they noticed me, it was too late. I panicked. I hopped around the corpse, hoping they''d never catch me. Of course, that''s stupid - me? Outrunning them? I can barely pull my weight that time..." "Then you saw it, didn''t you?" "Yup. As you guessed, I noticed a hole... and that one hole gave me one more chance." "At least it ain''t the other hole. That''d be weirder." "... Are there supposed to be more than one-" "It''s not important," He emphasizes, hinting for it to continue. "... Ok then," Sam''s suspicion didn''t even last a second. That''s right, he is the great one who can fight, the magnificent one who graced it a name. If it''s not important then it''s not to be bothered, as his infinite wisdom demands. "Then... you know what I had to do." "Uhuh, yeah," He couldn''t take it seriously with the topic at hand. "Damn that place," Sam said with pure contempt. "That damned hole - how could they have something like that inside them?!" Sam butchers, but now with greed for violence. It was slicing and dicing with sadism, not stopping even when the knives are constantly chipped. are creatures here that don''t give a damn about the Cube law, it''s a miracle he managed to aim at its eye back then. "Poison... everything was poison... everything tasted like rot... everything in me... begged to get out of that hell, but they were all outside. My body itched to leave that crevice... I didn''t. I kept shouting to myself again and again that, even if I felt like I was already dying, I''ll die if I did... There was nothing I can do but endure the torture. "I just... I just wanted to live..." Sam whispered, "Then everything went dark... darker than the darkness in that place..." "Ow.. oW," If that was the quarter of Sam''s firsthand experience, touching shit would be worse beyond hygiene concern. "Sam. Listen," He demanded, speaking in a tone that a pissed but patient father would have. "... I''m listening." "Don''t you ever dare do that kind of thing again, got it?" For once, he felt genuine sympathy for his buddy. In all honesty, he has a little sociopathic side buried deep in his consciousness. The reason for his concern over it was to improve his own survival, to use it as an object that can assist him - there''s no reason caring anything that isn''t human. But now it was different, "Especially not with me around, ya hear?" "But why? Others can''t chase me in there. Besides, I''m used to it." "Don''t care, ''cause if the next thing you say you fed me shit, you''re in deep shit." "Oh~ don''t worry. I made sure I didn''t." Sam replies in a sing-song voice. If the great Samuel would be mad if it injected him the toxic stuff, then he would be glad because it didn''t feed him that! Opposites should result in opposites, right? That''s what it thought. "... What do you mean you''re "sure"?" "What else would I feed you when you were out cold? I couldn''t eat through the wolf''s skin! And there was no wound!" Sam said excitedly. Finally, he would acknowledge its genius if he let it explain! "... Then what. Did. You. Feed me, Sam?" Each time he speaks a word he inches to Sam, who got happy hearing its name called by the one and only Samuel. "You see, I knew that you''re not used to poop, so I fed you the rectum instead!" Sam exclaim. And it was proud because Sam is the only slime that has the capability to save him earlier. "... You fed me ass?" "Yes! The ass!" "... The inner ass?" "Yes! The inner ass!" known that hellholes can be eaten. Unlike Sam. That''s right. Since he finally knows how it saved him, he should be even more grateful that no slimes can do what Sam has done, that he has a unique and intelligent partner under his wing!"If it wasn''t for you, Sam, my legendary existence would have ceased!" Is what Sam expects him to say, and an endless chain of compliments. "Sam," Two tentacles hold Sam''s upper curve as if it has shoulders. "Do not ever speak of this, understand?" "... Of course." "Good. Go back to your job." "Yes!"
"Remember. Heave-ho. When I say heave, you ready. When I saw ho, you throw. Got it?" "Heave... ho!" "One more!" They did it once more. And the rest, done efficiently. The limbs are cut. He knows animal anatomy, and slice between its forelimbs'' shoulder blades. The hip, a bit difficult, needing more chops against the ball joints. The belly gutted with caution. Sam had to do most of the work at hauling the intestines. "Hold it up right there." "I''m doing it." "Woah," Sam awes outside. The hole was covered! It''s like there wasn''t even a cave in the first place! "Hey, we still have things to haul." "Right!" Troubles and trials Walking as a bowl wasn''t as graceful as he thought, and he didn''t expect it to be. It does work though at transporting large volumes of shredded, bloody flesh... ugh. Blood. The things people have to do to survive. Though most of the blood already leaked from Sam''s outburst, thankfully. The leather door curtain swerves open as he enters his lovely cave. Upon reaching the farthest section, he dumps everything. He goes back to see a pile of meat, and Sam standing on the bones. "Hey, Sam. After you''re done with that, drag those bones inside," He points at the femurs. "Ok," It was eating the remaining flesh on the skeleton. Wasting would be a sin. He continues hauling, and Sam, like how it looks at him now and then, watches in interest and admiration. Samuel, that ingenious lot, was indeed an ingenious slime. Itsaw other creatures haul food with their jaw from time to time, and having to observe them made Sam sad knowing it couldn''t do the same thing. That''s right, slimes don''t have a jaw of teeth. And yet again, he showed otherwise that they don''t need those. It just demonstrates how much he was great indeed. After all, bringing food into wherever you want has one big advantage. That is, eating it in a safe place. Because of him, Sam gets to eat without having to worry about enemies! Sam drags a thick bone across the ground, drawing a track of line. It does the same to the other. The mound of flesh shrinks in the amount as he awkwardly hauls, and faster when Sam joins the task. In front of the entrance, Sam''s mind blanks from past memories. It recalls the times Sam runs place to place, runningamok in hopes of permanent safety. It found something better instead. A deity. "Well? You gonna go in or what?" He was in line behind Sam, who waits in impatience. "Sorry!" It enters in a rush, self-loathing fromhis displease. Dumping the food, he followed suit. The next was quite...uneventful. It didn''t take long to do most of everything. He was, of course, grateful that nothing was happening. He wasn''t saying that his life itched that dangerous flare, where the scent of death would bring anyone into their best effort to climb the ladder of survival. It''s simply boredom. ... What should he do in his new life then? He kicked the bucket at an early age.How could he grieve for his broken future, when he had none? What is there to do in the age of automation exactly? What do you do when there''s nothing that should be done? Other than having a childish curiosity over the wonders of mankind - the science, inventions, machines, everything man has brought into the world (or at least, in his home planet) - games are the sole reason for his motivation. He mutters to himself, "Heh. What am I thinking? That''s stupid." "What''ya talking about?" That''s right. Why should he think about something pessimistic? It''s too early to have an existential crisis. Besides, being a slime may not be too bad. He''s even got a buddyhe can survive with. Who knows what''ll happen in the future? Maybe tomorrow, he''s got a community he should be looking for.For now, rising Maslow''s hierarchy of needs was one thing he should be concentrating on. "Nothing. Let''s just move on." "Ok... then?" There he goes again, being weird as much as being great he was. If only Sam''s limited understanding wasn''t as limited as its experience. Then again, in slime sense, it aged enough to manifest basic intellect that of a human child. Sam and Samuel feel the ground. Tremors... footsteps. Weak, but steadily growing. As semi-liquid organisms, they felt the shake to a precise degree, like how a glass of water would be noticed vibrating to the naked eye faster than a human can physically sense. "Hide! Now!" He orders loudly out of panicYou might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author. "But the organs!" Samreplies. All the meat was hauled, but not some of the insides. Liver, highly nutritious. Heart, pure protein. They couldn''t just abandon those! "You get the liver! I get the heart!" "Understoo- what''s a liver?!" He rushes to the remains of the carcass as Sam followed. He catapults the soft, jiggly organ at Sam like basketball. "Now go!" Sam caught and runs towards the cave as hecarriesthe heart. It was quite heavy. To tackle this issue, he ate parts of the heart to lessen the weight. Then he felt his entire being morphing, similar to a fat caterpillar entering metamorphosis. Just like in that process of change, his consciousness felt hazy. The void pulls his soul into the void. He felt like a cargo ship too bulky to float, thus sinking into the deep abyss. "Gotta hurry," Muttered Sam to itself again and again at a rushed pace. Crossing a short distance, Sam dumps the organ into the stockpile at the end of the cave. Sam waits in silence and simply stare into the cave curtain, hoping this whole "camouflage" thing would keep out ignorant intruders. But what is it trying to say exactly? Is it implying that the master plan of the great and mighty Samuel would be fated to fail? "What''s Samuel taking so long?" Sam wonders about the delay. The liver he passed seemed bigger and heavier than this "heart", and yet Sam managed to haul it back even with a bit of effort. There shouldn''t any reason why he would be slower. Peeking, Sam panics after he seemed to be unmoving.Just the thought of his deathmade Sam worriedto the core. "Samuel!" Sam shouts and hops to him, nudging him with care. It noticed the half-eaten heart sitting beside him. Then a certain memory was triggered from the past. Now that Sam noticed, this "heart" does seem familiar. "... He ingested it." ... Location: Unknown. He woke up groggily with a dry mouth. His own two arms went for his face to rub away the sleepiness. And it was effective. Not because of the friction, but because of the realization that he has hands, arms, and a face. He''s got limbs natural to that of a human, not a slime. He was wearing simple white tees and fitting jeans, a simple yet comfy fashion. He stands,... and staggers. His arms flail for balance. "Take it easy, young man." There was a man wearing a white tuxedo, sitting so casually behind a mahogany wood desk in his armchair. He holds a leather clipboard with gold engravings. The walls and ceiling were plain white. No door. No windows. No light. Not even shadows no matter how hard you look. The mysterious man snaps his fingers and abeanbag appeared out of thin air, along with a table served with snacks and a cup of hot cocoa. He slightly leaned back from surprise. It may seem abnormal for a person like him to stay calm, at least to a manageable degree, but he was just tired of all the things that happened, and to the things that could, or would. "You can sit if you like," The appearance the man portrays has an atmosphere that can calm the universe''s tension. He cocked an eyebrow, "Samuel... and justSamuel." After a few seconds of consideration, he walks up to the beanbag and sat. A sip of sweet cocoa was what he needs, and a mouthful of biscuits. "A somber story for a good soul like you. Orphaned, thrown into the cold streets of Los Angeles after birthed by a prostitute." Samuel breathes, about to open his mouth to open the dam of questions. Until he was interrupted. "Yes, I''m a god, though not the kind in your world. No, I don''t have mind-reading abilities - I don''t need it. I''ve heard that question many times, Samuel. Believe me. But you can, however, simply refer to me as... the Administrator." He put down the clipboard under the light of the lamp and cross his legs, hands obediently on his lap. He leans in slightly and emphasized his words clearly, "You''re quite an anomaly, aren''t you?" He sighed, "I couldn''t fathom my colleagues'' thinking upon dealing with you." "Can you tell me what''s going on?" Samuel bluntly said, keeping a concerned face. He can tell this Administrator guy had this straight-to-the-point attitude. Those are the type of people who are easy to please. ""What''s going on"?" He raised an eyebrow as he chuckles, "Well, for starters, you died ahead of your schedule, mainly because theAfterlifeDepartment and Reincarnation & Transmigration Agency had technical faultsat the same time. In fact, you weren''t supposed to be a- " He glimpses on the clipboard. "- A slime, much less keep your memory intact. And don''t get me started why they optioned to give you this Soul-Integrated Assistive Entity. It''s like they''re rooting foryou to live after all that chaos! What in the world were they thinking?" He gestured. Soul-Integrated Assistive Entity? Is he talking about Sage? With a sigh, he gets the clipboard and inspects it with keen eyes, "We don''t even know what to do with you anymore, Samuel. It''s a miracle you had..." Another glimpse. "this... "mana overdose". Otherwise, we wouldn''t be able to have this discussion." "Then... what is there to discuss?" "Now that''sthe question I wanted to hear from you," the Administrator was pleased to hear that. ... Location: Somewhere underground. An ax was swung down. The air whistles. If Sam didn''t jump away it would have been split. Instead of a slime, the orc hit the ground. "SLime! AnoYING!" The dark-skinned, ax-wielding orc shouts in agitation. "HA! What''s WronG!? Why U No KiLL Slime? Ur too slow! HAHAHA!" The orc behind threw its insult. Their buddies'' laughter soon followed. It''s funny how one of their brothers was having a hard time dealing with a slime. "ShuT UP! SHUT UP! DIE!" The attacking orc release a flurry of swing to which the slime all dodged. It was embarrassing even for it. If there''s any reason why slimes are considered a threat, it is how these icky things can ruin your food. Rule of thumb: if you wanna survive out here, never, NEVER, let a slime touch your daily bread. They leave this stench and poison that can turn your stomach inside out. That''s why if they''re gonna be back for that jackpot - that giganticjuicy corpse - they''re going to have to kill it.
