After being hit by something hard, Magnolia thought she saw stars before her eyes. Confused, she weakly tried to sit up. Her back hurt like hell. -It will definitely leave some bruises... [WeLcOmE tO tHe SyStEm] [AsSiMiLaTiOn SuCcEsSfUl] [01%] Magnolia froze. Before her eyes floated mysterious text. Uncertainly, she reached her hand forward. It went throughtit with ease . -What happened? Did I hit myself silly or something? I remember falling from that massive tree root.. It gave an nice view on waterfall, so I sat there... But how.. She looked around, noting strannge look of the cave. Strange box followed her eyes. Unfamilliar, gloving kinds of mushrooms grew on some of the walls and rocks. Her face married by many scratches left by the fall concorted into an grimace. -..how did I end up there? The room was dark, but thanks to said mushrooms Magnolia could see some things. Her baseball blouse got dirty, but thankfully did not tear anywhere. Her jeans were also left intact. Shoes were fine too, thought slightly dirty with the mud. Girl shuddered, taking an feel for her body. It seems she did not break anything. Backpack lied next to her. It was probably what hit her before. With shaking hands, she runnamged throught her backpack, while the percentage grew steadily. She found almost everything inside but her unfinished drawing. It was last of her worries thought. -One filtering water bottle and tiny thermos with coffe.. check. Four granola bars.. check. Watercolor set.. check. These funny brushes with water containers.. check. Ereaser.. check. Pens and pencils.. check. Sketchbook.. check. Swiss army knife.. check. Bandaids.. check. Earphones and smartphone.. battery run out? But it was full.. Oh. Lighter is there too, but its almost used up. I forgot to fill it.. Damn. She looked up at the ceiling. Strange circular shape with unknown writings she came throught was dying slowly. Feeling sudden fear, she gripped an phone and tried to make an photo. Seeing dead screen she smacked her forehead and took her sketchbook and pencils. Something told her to note that thing down. She knew there is no way she fell there throught normal means. She still did not know what was wrong, and so decided to trust her senses. In the middle of the drawing, blue box actualised itself. Some of the strange shapes she tried to note down, gained life and moved around the paper. There were four of them. Shy one hid in the corner, and andventurous tried to get onto other page. Little glutton gnawed at one of the immobile drawing, doing no damage to it thought. And last one... Lets call it lively one. It ran happily in circle. Surrounded by dozens of lights produced by unnatural mushrooms, she stared at them without blinking. It was just too unnatural. When she tried to draw another one, lively shape stopped running and attached itself to its newest sister, tearing halfway done drawing away. Suddenly, her attetion was diverted to something else. [WELCOME TO BACKWATER CAVE DUNGEON] [You have entered novice level dungeon. Threat level medium for current level.] [Current location- safe zone. To leave dungeon, killing the floor boss is neccessary.] She knew what an dungeon was. Her brother liked to play games, and she along with her triple sisters accompanied him everyday... until he dissapeared five years ago. After that, playing games brought them too much pain... So they had to find other means of passing time. For Magnolia, it was drawing and painting that brought her here.. and reading. So althought it seemed riddicolous, and with each passing second she was getting more nervous, she thought back , trying to remember few things about games and stories revolved around them. Her memory was murky, but she managed to remember something. Two years ago she was quite enthusiastic about few novels with gaming and litrpg theme, hoever their authors stopped posting new installations. Usually, every character have.. status screen? Her heart beat lound like crazy, and her hands started to shaking. After taking an deep breath, she picked up her backpack and stood up, wincing. -It seems I dont have any choice, right? System called that cave an safe zone.. Is it where entrace used to be? Maybe I can find something useful here? Noting down that thing on the ceiling that brought her here didnt have any more sense. With each stroke she understood less and less, like it was draining her concentration and energy. Also, her hand shook too much to note anything anyway. So she decided to explore the so called safe zone. At first, nothing much gained her attetion. One time, she thought she found mentioned entrace. An big green rock with fluorescent veins stood out from the formation of the grey rocks. Poking it with her small knife gave no resoult. Hoever, an round and handy mushroom in golden hue and light growing near the rock gave Magnolia some inspiration. She cut it near the rock, and caught its stem with left hand. She waved it and shook, but it still glowed, so she decided to take it along. After all, she didnt know what kind of light sources were up ahead.. and that mushroom looked kind of special. Thats what she liked to think anyways. She put it in the bag, so the golden cap was visible. Looking under monstroust shroom in the center of the cave gave her biggest suprise- an strange chest. Magnolia pulled it toward herself, and fumbled with the rusty lock. It didnt give her much of an fight, as it turned to dust with little pressure. After opening the lid she was welcomed with another notification. [Found hidden novice chest. There are several iron weapons inside. One weapon per person] [Novice sword] [Novice two handed greatsword] [Novice bow and set of basic arrows] [Novice dagger] [Novice spear] [Novie polearm] [Novice hammer] [Novice axe] [Novice blunt staff] -Its too much... Suddenly drained of energy, Magnolia sat at the nearest object. Giant mushroom cap was quite comfortable, so she decided to lay down instead. The notification followed her, like usual. She had an hard choice to make. Were weapons related to gainable classes? Or not? She reached her right hand toward letters, considering her options. She knew her aim was not too bad, how was she supposed to get more arrows in case current ones ran out? Besides.. aiming in this darkness? Spear, polearm, hammer, axe and greatsword sounded too heavy for her. Blunt staff didnt sound like something doing any great damage. She also didnt know if it was an mage weapon, nor how magic worked. Were there spell casting books or wands? Was she even capable of it? Dagger and sword howewer.. Sleek looking, iron sword materialised in her right hand. Caught by suprise, she dropped it with scream. Weapon fell onto cap near her head, cutting some of her fine dark hair and sticked into the fleshy cap right till the handle. -It.. it was close... I am stupid.- Magnolia panted. -To hell with that! Maybe its enought of stalling. Slowly, she pulled out the sword and stood up from the mushroom cap. An blue goo flowed out from the cut. Gagging at the smell, she cleared the blade swiftly with another unhurt cape and headed hurriedly for the corridor. She definitely wasny running away from that smell. Absolutely not. After some time when the young woman with long ponytail (now slightly shorter) and leather backapck left the room, teleportation circle had dissapeared. Mushroom that was hurt by newly acquired sword shook itself and started glowing ore intenselu. Soon, its cut dissapeared without any trace left, like it was never hurt in the first place. 02 CHAPTER TWO AN WORTHY ENEMY After a few minutes of walking throught the corridor, young woman with unevenly cut cherry brown ponytail noted few things. First of all, the air seemed to get warm enought for her to start sweating. She had to unclip the buttons and roll up the gray long sleeves of her baseball blouse. Other thing that she noted was that the mushrooms that illuminated the safe zone she came from got smaller and became fewer in number, and started to get replaced with glowing quartz crystals. Soon, she arrived at the crossroad. [Tutorial activated] [First lesson. Ways of dungeons] [Novice dungeons are artifictially created entities- an legacy left by old empires of legends. There were some scribbles on each wall, but they were too faded to understand anything from them, other than that they were using different colors that once could have been green, blue and red. No color belonged to the road she came from. But what was the meaning behind these colors? -Usually.. colors refered to rarity? Green should be easiest.. Having not much of choice since she didnt know if it was true or not, she decided to trust her guts and choose the right patch. This time the road was short, as soon she was greeted with huge wooden door with specks of green dye left. When she put her hand on the handle, she saw another text coming. [Do you wish to enter Artifical Nature Dungeon? You have to formulate the answer either verbally or mentally] "So color reffered to element? Green is nature.. is red an fire, and blue water?" -Yes.. I wish to enter. Doors opened with ease, but Magnolia couldnt remember taking an step and passing throught them. Suddenly, she was surrounded by nothingness. Soaked in infinite darkness and overcome by fear, she wanted to scream badly, but no words escaped her mouth. After what seemed like eterinty, but was really an matter of seconds, young woman fell and onto cold marble stone. Sprawled on the floor, she enjojed the cooling sensation that soothed her body and spinning sensation in her head. When she decided that she calmed enought, she reached for the sword that fell somewhere around her... and got awarded with an odd moss ball instead. -W.. What .. what the hell was that! I am feeling.. sick... She threw the thing away and tried sitting up... in the process, she puked out her guts. [Welcome to the Artificial Nature Dungeon] [Quest Completed] [One Reward point gained. Level privilege gained] [New Quest acquired. Defeat all the opponents inside and proceed for the second floor] -If it is going to be like this every time... Argh.. how scary.. Magnolia igonored the bad taste in her mouth and stood up unsteadily. Her hand found an column that she used to steady herself.. "Wait. Column? It looks a bit like.. greek corinthian style order..." It was definitely simmiliar thought there were few differencies. In the middle of the decorational vines was blob like thing and something that looked like tree stump. Both of them surrounded an childlike figure. There were also strange symbols written on the base. She wondered whenever should she note these too, but soon remembered her problem. -Where is my sword? After looking around, she found it in the middle of the rubble covered in moss that once was an column. Actually, most of the surroundings were covered in the moss and mushrooms - the room she was in resembled an cave, or maybe, taking an consideration of columns and marble floor.. an ruin of old temple? Throught one big split in the high ceiling came light, along with faraway sounds of birsong and wind rushing throught leaves... There was also an slightly lounder sound- one of the moving water, like an fountain, and an sound of chimes. The place it illuminated was hidden by some rubble , thought an shape of an greenish wiry sculpture peeked from behind it. After recovering her only weapon, Magnolia checked the straps of her backpack and wanted to go in this direction, but an sound from behind made her pause. When she turned back, she saw an green blob get from under the rubble. It moved rather slowly, and when it noticed her presence, that thing made an strangest thing possible- as if it was an cat, it curved into an "n" shape and spitted in young womans direction. -What the hell! Instictively, she ducked to the left. Her decision was correct- an hissing sound from behind and unpleasant smell gave Magnolia an idea what blobs weapon might be. Acid. She didnt have any time to consider her discovery. Was it lethal or not? Green blob stretched and leaped in her direction, making an gurgling sound. Magnolia barely evaded the second attack. Enemy crashed on the colum she was studying before. Blob was twitching slightly, but not making any other move. Was it stunned by the impact? Magnolia didnt know, but she saw it as an chance. She tightened the grip on the handle of her blade, and slashed blindly at the creature. Sword went throught it as if it was an warm butter, and as she retreacted her weapon, an green goo followed, seeping slowly from the cut. Seeing the effectivness of her move made her slash at it again and again, falling into strange madness. Blob tried to attack her again, but its acid spit failed to do any real damage other than discoloring her shoes and jeans. [1 experience gained] [Level up! Current level- 1] Magnolia felt an rush of energy throught her body, making her revitalized. Fear and anger left her face, giving place to an small grin that soon became big smile.
