《Great Red Revolution》 Chapter 1 "Hello, you''re dead! Congrats!" An annoyingly shrill voice screamed in Jack''s ear, somehow returning him to awareness. He could still feel the moments of his death. The slowly lessening throb of his heart, the sound of screams from the people nearby as he laid there, bleeding. He''d been off on a simple walk with his dog, god bless her poor doggy soul, when an obviously drunk driver had swerved off the road and crashed straight into him. He''d died before the ambulance even had a chance to arrive at the scene. "Oh..." Jack could only murmur, his brain, or whatever allowed him to think right now, still trying to process the events. "Oh yes, that sucks, I know. But, good news, thanks to new management from the higher ups, we''ve decided to bless some individuals with special gifts in order to bring... change... to various worlds who''ve stilled too much in their development. So, hurry up and choose because otherwise my boss will tear me a new asshole." "Pardon...?" Jack asked. He was still incredibly confused and struggling to understand. "Alright, drastic times call for drastic measures. Here ya go." The shrilly voice said in resignation, and immediately, Jack''s mind cleared up. "Oh. Thank you." Jack said. Normally he would have felt almost raped by how his mind had just been messed with, but evidently, whatever the voice did removed those feelings. "Yeah, yeah. Hurry." The voice urged impatiently. "Uh, I guess... make me immortal? Is that even possible?" Jack said. After having just died, he had the somewhatstrong desire to not die again. Who would''ve thought. "Well, nothing is absolutely immortal, but I guess I can make you basically immortal. You''ll stop aging at your prime, whenever that is, and you''ll always regenerate whatever injury you receive. If your whole body is destroyed, you''ll regenerate starting from your heart. Next." The voice explained.Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site. "Perfect, thank you...?" "You don''t need to know my name, but I guess you can just call me Manager. Hurry up for the Supreme''s sake." "Sorry, sorry. But, before I decide more, can I at least be explained a bit of the next world?" Jack asked. He was starting to get the feeling he wasn''t really wanted up here in whatever hell or heaven he was in. Good thing he wasn''t religious at all, or else he woul''ve had his whole belief system shattered. "What do you think there is to know? It''s your typical 3rd class world. Monsters, system with stats, wars left and right, corruption runs rampant, rapes are commonplace, and 99% of the population lives in what can only be called slavery. Basically, it''s one of the shittiest worlds I''ve yet had the displeasure of having to fix up, so do make sure you change things, ok? Otherwise, I''ll have wasted way too much effort." "That sounds... uncool." Jack commented somewhat lamely even as the gears in his head turned. "Since you said there is a sytem, there''s levels and classes, yeah?" "Yup. I''ve got no idea which idiotcame up with that idea, but it''s clearly not working all things considered." The voice said, disappointment thick in it''s voice. "So you say... What''s the maximum multiplier you can give me to experience for both levels and skills?" Jack''s heart was pumping with excitement by now, even though his rational mind already knew that this whole experience would probably be shit. "Ugh... I guess 1.000 times is the max, if I make it more than that you might cause some serious trouble. And that''s already me being extremely generous." The voice said with some pain in it''s voice, as to why that was, Jack didn''t know nor did he care. "Perfect, thank you... Manager. For the last thing... I''m not sure... Is there a limit to how many skills one can have?" "System-managed skills depend on your classes. I don''t need you to tell me your next wish, you want me to remove skill limits?" "Hmm" Jack hummed in approval. "Done. Now hurry up and go. Oh, and one last thing, free of charge. Don''t believe whatever religious nonsense they shit out down there, there are no real gods born from that world, and I doubt there will ever be. Even I''m not really considered a real god." "Oh." Jack didn''t know why this was important, but he still nodded in thanks for the information. "Good, off you go. See you never, hopefully." And with that, Jack lost consciousness and was catapulted over into the world of Lania. Chapter 2 Being born was one of those experiences Jack would rather never have to talk about ever again. What followed after was also something best left forgotten, as humiliation has no other name than shitting oneself without control. Regardless, Jack spent his free time, which was arguably all his time, mulling over his life and not-life. To be honest, his memories and feelings were somewhat messed up, as there were a ton of details from his previous life that he simply could not for the life of his remember. This made him honestly wonder if Manager hadn''t fucked with his memories, which, while terrible, didn''t actually upset Jack as much as he thought it would. Again, his feelings and thoughts were still a bit fucked over. Anyways, Jack''s parents, or rather, parent, didn''t seem to be in such a bad position as the Manager had described. He''d onl seen his mom so far, and only her. She often left him alone for long periods of time, coming back visibly exhausted, with barely the energy to breast-feed him and then fall asleep instantly. Despite his baby-mind urging him to scream and make as much noise as his little body could, Jack''s more rational mind just told him to shut the fuck up and to not make more trouble for the woman. He lived in a small room and had never seen the outside, but his mom didn''t seem malnourished at least, even if she did seem overworked. This continued for several months, until Jack''s mom abruptly took him one day and brought him outside the walls that had confined him for this entire life. During the night. While wearing a black cape. Understandably, Jack had thought he was about to die when he saw someone dressed like that sneaking into his room, but luckily, it was easy enough to recognize his own mother based on height and whatever little skin she showed. Within the hour, they''d left. Although Jack hadn''t had the chance to properly see, he could still tell that he''d only been in a small room of a gigantic castle. It was only when they were quite far from the castle, which turned out to have been smacked in the middle of a pretty large and fancy city, did his mom finally relax. She was breathing heavily, and Jack, who was held with one arm against her chest, could tell she was sweating quite a bit. She took the time to cuddle Jack a little, which did calm him down a bit. Eventually, she arrived in a far-away house after quite the long journey. She was also quick to drop him off in an already there crib, which told Jack that this ''escape'' wasn''t exactly a spurr-of-the-moment thing. They waited for a bit before astranger came in, also dressed in black and looking like a stereotypical assassin.Enjoying the story? Show your support by reading it on the official site. Jack''s mom and the stranger spoke for a bit, all low-voice and dramatic whispers, before he finally handed over a sack of something to Jack''s mom, who took it with a nod. The assassin-stranger then left not so stealthily through the door. And just like that, Jack''s life resumed. The differences were that his mom was now almost always home and that he lived in a slightly bigger room. Good stuff. It was a little after his first birthday, or at least he thought it was, when Jack finally spoke his first word, which was the typical ''mama''. He still struggled to understand the language sometimes, but having his mom constantly baby-talk made it a bit easier. Funnily enough, that was when something weird happened. A pop-up, well, popped up. Gained Lv.1 Elos Dialect Jack had actually squealed when that happened, which was right after he said mama. His mom had laughed so much and made him keep on repeating it. After the fifth ''mama'', he got another pop up. Gained Lv.2 Elos Dialect And indeed, he could understand his mom a bit better now. It was weird, it probably fucked with his brain somehow, but damn did he feel proud. Proud of what, Jack wasn''t sure. Probably not something anyone should be proud of, but god damn it he was only a 1 year old. "Good job, Juliet!" Jack''s mom squealed as she assaulted him with a hug. Even as he tried to wiggle his way out of her grasp, his mind was whirling. He hadn''t had the knowledge to understand whatever name had been given to him this life, but... Juliet was a girl''s name. He hadn''t exactly checked, but he''d thought he would have still been male. Apparently, either the Manager was fucking with him, or he''d hit the 50% roll on the F side. Either was just as plausible. He wasn''t happy, but there was little he could do about it, and there were more interesting things to worry about. Like checking out whatever system the Manager had told him... her? Toldher about. Jack, now apparently named Juliet, which she thought was a lame and copycat-ish name, tried to mentally shout system, and just like that, a little window appeared in her mind. It wasn''t exactly like he saw it, more like he just knew the information on the screen and his mind automatically put it together. It was... weird. Name -Helen JulietVon-Kristerford Age - 1 year Level -1 (0.00%) Class 1 - Nay Skills - Nay Class 2 - Nay Skills - Nay General Skills -Elos Dialect Lv.2 Unique Skills -Immortal A status worth of a useless little baby barely able to crawl around. Toying around with the thing more yielded little result, which convinced Juliet to eventually ask her mother when she got around to speaking. Hopefully she wouldn''t be seen as a demon and/or devil and crucified. Finger crossed that wouldn''t happen, but if it did, at least the immortal perk should help out. Hopefully. She really didn''t fancy forever burning without being able to die. It sounded... bad. First, she had to extricate herself from the immensely strong hug her mother was giving her, which promised a death even worse than burning alive for the rest of eternity if she didn''t quickly run... err, crawl away. Chapter 3 "... And so, the almighty and glorious king, our beloved great leader, ruler of the lands of Elos, slaughtered the dragon like a butcher slaughters the cow..." Juliet read aloud. His... her? Her mom nodded proudly and patted her back encouragingly. "My little girl''s a true genius! So, have you gotten the reading skill yet?" Her mom eagerly asked. Juliet nodded with a broad smile, albeit a fake one. "Of course. It''s level 9 already!" She proudly announced. Her mom was beaming as she hugged Juliet with another of her crushing hugs. "Good girl... With your looks and smarts, I''m sure I''ll be able to find a wonderful husband for you." And there it was. The reason for Juliet''s recent troubles. Sexism. She was only 5 years old, and yet her mom had already had several tutots come in and ''instruct her on how to be a lady''. Basically, she was being taught to be a subservient sex slave for whoever more or less bought her in the future. Furthermore, while her mom was very caring and rewarding when she succeded, any signs of disobedience or failure were met with harsh spankings or worse. She''d actually been threatened with lashing recently. She, a 5 years old, threatened with lashing. And, apparently, many of her tutors actually found this to be not strict enough. While she hadn''t yet given them a reason to, she could see it in their eyes that she was beingtoo good for their books. In her adult eyes, they wanted to break her to their needs. She didn''t even know why all of this was. She was grateful for the opportunity to grind skills, but other than that, she hated every moment of it. She knew she was some sort of noble, or hell, even royalty judging by her name and how she had both money, tutors, and was extremely sheltered. Furthermore, every singlefucking book she was given was filled to the brim with obvious propaganda. Thankfully, she still benefitted from having meals 3 times a day, a good bed to sleep on, and a mother that, despite her flaws, obviously cared for her. And while she''d originally been hesitant about sharing her status, fearful that it might expose her whole rebirthing secret, it''d worked out in the end, somehow. Apparently, the first 5 levels were often regarded as the beginning, and each level after that would be both much harder to achieve but also a vast improvement. Furthermore, while some skills directly gave someoneknowledge regarding their use, others, like cooking, didn''t actually putrecepies in one''s mind, they simply gave a person an affinity to that subject.Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. Furthermore, skills could be merged after a while. For example, her mom had already made clear that until she got the ''Housework'' skill, which was a combination of cooking and cleaning, she would not be allowed to leave the house. She''d claimed that the skill would automatically form after getting both cooking and cleaning to level 10, so she was very close to achieving that, much to everyone''s suprise. As such, Juliet had been working her 5-years old ass off to get the damn skill. Apparently, it normally took years for some to get the skills high enough, and although Juliet had only been really doing it for only a year or so, starting since she was 4, she''d already gotten her skills to such a high level, which caused some suspicion. Originally, Juliet had thought they might find outher secret, but instead, both her mom and the various tutors that came and went simply waved it off as her being a ''genius'' and ''having good blood''. It was convenient, but annoying. She didn''t know if to complain or thank whatever god or manager helped her out. As Juliet hopped onto her bed after spending an entire afternoon and evening with her dance instructor, the one who helped her get the Grace skill, she shuffled into the covers, just about ready to retire for the day. However, not a minute after she''d gotten in her bed and was just about to sleep, she felt the strongest pain she''d ever experienced. Just as a scream was about to tear throughher throat, something plunged into her chest, then neck, severing her jugular vein. That stopped her scream before it even started. She thrashed around, attempting to shake off whatever was holding her planted to the bed. She could barely hear a foreign breathing as she finally stilled, forcing herself to ignore the horrifying pain and trying to make herself look as dead as possible. Half a dozen seconds later, the hand that had kept her still retreated. She didn''t dare move for another hour, when she finally reopened her eyes, her room was just like before, if one was to ignore the blood splattered all around her bed. With trembling hands, she touched her neck and chest, finding it perfectly fine. Her breathing was erratic, and she forced herself to ignore the notifications that the system tried to send her. Instead, she got up and ran as quickly as she could over to her mom''s room. She stopped at her mom''s door, knocking twice before entering. "Mm... What is it J- Oh lord." Her mom was up in an instant as she ran over to her. "Juliet, dear. Tell me everything that happened. Why are you covered in blood?" Her mom soothed as she hugged Juliet, who was trembling and with wide eyes. The moment her mom''s arms were around her, she burst into tears as she tried to tell what happened through her sobs. When she finished, telling her of how someone had stabbed both her throat and heart without her even hearing it, her mom carrying her back to her room, taking one look at the blood splattered all around before promptly shutting the door and going back to her own room. "That bastard... He promised... Fucking liar!" Her mom hissed before promptly shutting up with an ''oops'' face. "You didn''t hear that. I hate to ask this, Juliet, but I know you''re a smart girl. How did you... live?" Her mom gently asked even as she ran her hand, the one that wasn''t holding her daughterup, through Juliet''s hair. Instead of answering or even trying to lie her way out, Juliet broke into even more tears. Through the haze of panic and confusion and safety and danger that was her mind, whatever rational and thinking mind was left also went in a panic at the question. So, she did the only thing a 5-year old should do and cried even louder. Her mom, realizing now might not be the time to ask questions, promptly shut up and spent the rest of the night trying to console her daughter. Eventually, Juliet fell asleep, but the tight hold she had on her mom was enough to convince said mom to stay there for the rest of the night, and that was what she did. Questions could come later, she thought, simply glad her daugher was alive. Perhaps, the capital might not have been as safe a place as she originally thought, she thought, feeling more than betrayed. Chapter 4 What followed after Juliet''s assassination attempt could only be described as complete chaos. While her mom had gone out the morning after the attempt with a face that promised infinite pain, she''d come back paler than Juliet had ever seen. They''d promptly packed up everything they could, took everything of value from their residence and promptly fled the city. Juliet had tried to ask questions, but that was shut down by a fierce glare from her mom. She''d stayed nice and silent since. Her mom had brought her to a store first, sold everything as quickly as she could and then promptly hopped onto the first available caravan and hightailed it outta there. Only then did her mom relax. "... Mommy?" Juliet asked, purposely making her voice both scared and cute. Her mom sighed as she put her hands on her face. "What is it, Juliet?" She asked. She was well aware her daughter wasn''t normal by any standards, far too intelligent for her age, had skills that levelled up at an impossible rate, and, well, apparently survived the assassination attempt from one of the best assassins in the kingdom. "Why are we fleeing? Why did someone try to kill me? Who is my father? Where are we going?" Juliet spews out question after question and only stops when her mom promptly shuts her up by slapping her hand on her mouth. She exhaled loudly before answering her daughter. "You''re a smart kid, Juliet. I haven''t been very honest with you, and I''m sorry for that. I know you can be mature about this, so take this with a grain of salt. You weren''t planned, hell, I was going to kill you after you were born." Juliet blinked for a couple seconds, then let out a small "Oh...". It sounded incredibly vulnerable even to herself, and despite everything, despite having the mind of a full-grown man who''d already faced difficulties of his own... It hurt. "Let me explain, dear. I was forced to change my mind when I found out who the father was. You see, I worked as the head maid of the castle. I kept things tidy and neat, but my status was still low. It wasn''t uncommon for me to be raped at least once every month, if not every week, basically always against my will, but what could I do? It was only a matter of time before I got pregnant, and I hope you can understand why I wasn''t very happy about having you..." She trailed off a bit lamely as the carriage had a harsh couple bumps, rocking them on their seats.Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation. Juliet was looking down, digesting the information. She''d expected things to be bad, but not this bad. Her mom sighed. "You''re only 5, I only planned on telling you this years from now... But, I will need your full cooperation now, okay?" She said seriously, even as she squished Juliet''s cheeks playfully. Juliet giggled a little, trying to shake off her mother while repeating yesses continuously. Eventually, her mother let go, allowing for Juliet to quickly retreat to the other side of the carriage, although this time with a very small smile, her mind temporarily distracted from the heavier topics. Her mom sighed as she continued, but not without first making sure nobody was listening. "Anyways, I was forced to take a paternity test, and it turns out, your father was Duke Halbert Von-Kristerford, the brother of the king. He''s your father, but he never even showed up. I don''t think he knows you even exist." She said bitterly. "Anyways, there was a law passed by the previous king stating that no child of royal or high noble blood could be aborted, so I had no choice but to conceive you." Talking about one''s birth was always a very weird affair, and for Juliet, it was no different. She felt incredibly awkward, fidgeting through the whole conversation. Seeing this, her mom put up another bitter smile. "Sorry, I''ll keep it simple. I received a royal commission from the king for your ''instruction''. If you ask me, he just wanted to have a potential claimant to your father''s title in his pocket..." Her eyes were distant again, but she quickly recovered. "A-anyway, I was told to leave by one of the king''s informants, since your brother, the heir to Duke Halbert''s title, received news of your existance... I don''t think they should bother us now that we''re out of the capital, but I''m not sure..." Juliet sat quietly as her mom explained, mostly letting her monologue. It all made sense, in retrospect, but that didn''t make it any easier. "Mom..." She called and hesitantly tugged on her sleeve. Her mom returned from whatever daydream or memory she was in and looked at her with a questioning "Hmm?" "Do... D-do you not want me?" Juliet somehow suprised herself yet again with how much weight that question carried. She faintly understood that the body would influence the mind, so it made sense for her to sometimes feel more childish... But, she felt as though all of her trust and feelings were placed in this single question. Her mom smiled the warmest smile she''d ever seen on the woman, gathered her up in her arms and brought her up to her so that Juliet''s head was resting on her shoulders. "Of course I do, you''re my little light in a world of darkness. I love you, July. I don''t care if you have some weird skill or were born abnormal, you''re still my daughter." The nickname was new, and it smelled of warmth. Juliet was content to sit there, basking in her mother''s embrace for the time being. And if the tears there were streaming down Juliet''s face were noticed by her mom, she didn''t point it out as Juliet tried to burrow her face as deep into her mother''s shoulder as possible. Chapter 5 The trip lasted for quite some time, and through it all, Juliet was confined to the carriage, except for the occasional bathroom break. She was forced to entertain herself by reading the same couple books they''d managed to bring with them over and over, as well as staring out the window. It was quite magical the magical sight, observing the adventurer guard that came along with them only reinforcing her excitement, and also dread, over this new and mystical world. "Mom, why do people become adventurers?" She''d asked. Her mom had looked surprised at such a question but answered it honestly anyways. "Money, dear. Becoming an adventurer is an extremely risky job, riskier than even becoming a mercenary, but one can obtain both status and wealth if lucky." "Then... How do nobles and royals level up? What does it even do?" She pressed on, determined to get the answer she''d been searching for so long. Her mom had smiled bitterly. "They murder prisoners of war, tied up and defenseless. It''s considered a rite of passage for many families, buying high-level beasts and men alike and slaughtering them for the experience." That''d damped more or less all of her excitement over the subject, but the sheer novelty of the subject kept her questioning her mother for an entire day of the trip. Eventually, her mom had snapped. "Juliet, dear, you cannot truly be interested in such unladylike things, right?" Juliet had simply looked away, half sheepish, half rebellious, and that was enough for her mother to understand. "Juliet, little ladies like you should not concern themselves with such barbaric things." At those words, Juliet bristled. She wasreallystarting to despise the whole ''you''re a girl, so just shut up and be a sex toy'' kind of thing. However, now was not the time to be bothering about such things. After an entire week of traveling, they eventually reached their destination. It was a relatively small and unknown town. After bidding goodbye to the caravan master, which was more or less the only person they''d talked with on their entire journey, Juliet had promptly been ushered into the village. Her mom had bought a house for what, in her words, was a ridiculously low price. Juliet still had no sense for money, but she could faintly understand that the standard currency was platinum, gold, silver, and copper coins. 100 copper made a silver, etc, with around 20 copper being enough to buy a person a nice and full meal, depending on the region of course. Juliet explored the house for a while before promptly begging her mother to let her outside. Her mother had been obstinate, but after much begging and promising to not do anything dangerous, she''d run off to explore the city. With a sniff of freedom at long, long last, Juliet immediately set out to explore everything her little 5-years old body could bring her to. Thankfully, the town was quite peaceful, so shewouldn''thave any trouble if all went well. So, she set out to explore. The place reeked of every single nasty smell in existence, so much so that she actually got a bad odor resistance after around an hour. Other than that, it wasn''t that different from what she was used to on Earth, with the only major difference being the relative poverty and utter lack of anything technological.Reading on this site? She kept away from the more shady parts of the city, not daring to test her immortality, which had proven tobe completely useless when it came to pain. Still, she learned quite a bit simply by observing the city and it''s inhabitants as they went about their daily lives. She was even given a free, if not dirty, candy from an old woman manning a small stall in the market area. She secretly threw it away when she was out of sight, as a single lick had almost caused her to gag. Still, when she returned when the sun was almost completely down, she was promptly ushered into the bath, given some bread for dinner and then promptly put in bed. The next day, she was told that, since her mom needed to find a job, and that tutors away from the capital were either nonexistent or far too expensive, she would have to ''self-study''. Apparently, her mom was a firm believer in ''education for a better life'', and she was quite pushy when she brought her to the library and given tons of books on several subjects. Juliet appreciated the effort, but she could already do most if not all math this world knew.Still, she couldn''t exactly say that, and she was pretty sure that while her mom had her suspicionsabout her, she probably didn''t think she was reincarnated. So, she sucked it up and spent most of her following days and weeks at home, often alone, reading and completing whatever task her mother left for her in the morning. It became clear to Juliet that her mother, despite being of obvious low-birth, had had the privilege of higher education herself, and obviously came to appreciate it later in life. And so, Juliet wisely shut up and did her homework. It was almost a month into their new life, yet another one of seclusion, when something notable happened. While she was already capable of understanding, reading, writing and more or less doing anything with words, the skill made everything just that much smoother. It wasn''t an obvious change, but it was still there. Her mother was ecstatic when she came back, apparently, she''d only gotten the language skill much, much later in life, and for Juliet to get it so damn early only further proved her abnormality. To celebrate her achievement, her mom allowed her to ask for one gift that she really wanted. Juliet asked for a bow. Her mother obviously wasn''t happy with her choice, but after Juliet threw the biggest tantrum of her life over the damn thing because god damn it, she didn''t want to ever again have her fucking throat ripped open, regardless of a stupid ''pain resistance'', her momacquiesced. She later apologized to her mother for throwing a tantrum, but her mom had just laughed and said, "What kind of 5 years olddoesn''tthrow a tantrum? Be a bit more childish, dear, enjoy your childhood while you can..." And again, she went off with her far-away look. Juliet had left her alone, by now having learned that her mom needed time alone whenever she went off to awake-dreamland.
