《Blood and Honor: Fallout》 Chapter 1- The Hour of Need Surface- Valley of Origins Region Empire of Night- City of Eternal Night Palace of Night Darren was woken from sleep when a hand slammed over his mouth. Darren immediately opened his eyes as he reached for his daggers but stopped when he saw the Master of Shadows hovering above him. Ezekial was making a shushing motion, "Get up and get ready. We have an emergency that needs to be seen to now!!!" Ezekial stated as he stepped away and out of the small room. Darren was housed in the servants quarters, not as a slight, but all the gossip and rumors flowed through the servents and it was the best place to get dirt on anyone. If any dirty secret was found within the palace or city, it would be told here within hours. Darren quickly dressed and donned his armor. His HUD displayed it was still early and four hours before sunset, so whatever was happening must be an emergency. "What''s wrong?" Darren asked the spymaster. Ezekial didn''t say anything just gestured for Darren to follow him. Darren grumbled but followed the older Vampire. As they walked out of the depths of the palace Darren saw more and more guards. Being a palace it was not unexpected, but both the Dawn Guard and Heart Guard were present. Usually, the Heart Guard handled the personal security of Jacob within the city and secured the palace while the Dawn Guard handled his security while on a campaign. He knew the Duergar and James had been slowly increasing the strength of both Elite Units due to Jacobs'' penchant for throwing himself into dangerous situations. Darren knew both units now had a thousand men each and were absolutely loyal to Jacob and Cathrine as well as their unborn child. Ezekial and Darren were allowed through all of them unopposed as they made their way up to the Master Suite. The Master Suite was large encompassing a small wing and was composed of five bedrooms, one oversized master bath, and two smaller bathrooms, a sitting room, a small dining room, and it was attached to a small garden and veranda. Darren noticed more Heart Guards and Dawn Guards outside and inside the suite as both men were ushered into the rooms where Jacob and his wife slept. Darren immediately noticed the Angel Rose and the Orc healer Snaggletooth, laboring over the still form of Jacob while Cathrine sat nearby just staring at his body. Jacob had blood all over him and based on the trails from his nose and ears, Darren immediately knew where it had come from and why. Darren cursed under his breath as he took everything in and made his way over to Cathrine, "Do you feel anything?" He asked her. Cathrine just shook her head as fresh tears started falling from her eyes as she stroked her stomach. "No. I cannot feel anything. It''s not that he is dead...It''s like our Psychic link is numb. His pain woke me, but then it was gone as if a switch had been flipped. Then I felt a burst of love and worry, then nothing." Cathrine replied. Darren nodded as he looked at the other occupants of the room. James, Thorgron, Nadal, Lilly, and Gloria were all in the room studying Jacobs still form and the two people laboring over him. Darren looked at Ezekial and made a subtle gesture towards Gloria before looking back at Cathrine. "You are a Mind Mage, did you try to reach him? What happened?" Darren prodded as Ezekial slowly drew Gloria out of the room. Cathrine nodded her head as she wiped her eyes, "Yes it was the first thing I did when I saw all the blood from his nose and ears. I knew something was wrong with his mind. He is highly resistant to Mind Magic now though and whatever he is going through is increasing that resistance. He is in there but he is buried deep in there and I have no idea what is going on with him." Cathrine replied and Darren nodded in acceptance as he squeezed the woman''s shoulder before turning and leaving to join Ezekial and Gloria. The Master of Shadows had backed the Seneschal into the corner and they were arguing as Darren approach. Darren touched the other man''s shoulder and gestured for him to move. Ezekial frustrated stepped aside allowing Darren access to the women who glared at him immediately. "I understand you are Jacobs'' friend but---" Whatever she was saying was cut off as Darren drove one of his daggers in inch into the Seneschal''s chest while the other pricked the underside of her jaw. From the daggers positions he could drive one into her heart and the other into her brain, Gloria was very aware of this and did her best to freeze. "We know you are a spy for the Eight Houses, Jacob knows it, Cathrine knows it, if you do anything to compromise them or threaten them I will end you. I don''t care who you work for I will burn it all down to get to you. Blink once if you understand.'' Darren told her and the women blinked. ''Good, your loyalty is now with the Emperor and his wife. You will not tell anyone about what has happened here. If I think you have compromised the Emperor or his wife, I will kill everyone you care about, everyone that shares a drop of blood with you, then I will come for you. You are going to go with two guards and get a new shirt. You will not be out of their sight for a moment. If they think you told anyone anything, I will begin my work. Blink if you understand." Darren told her and she blinked again as fear consumed her. Darren gestured for two of the nearby guards over and whispered instructions to them before allowing Gloria to leave. A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation."I prefer more subtle approaches, but that will work also." Ezekial dryly said as they made their way back into the bedroom. "Right now, blunt and overwhelming was needed. Let''s find a close friend of hers and leave a blatant statement there and make sure they find it together." Darren softly told Ezekial as Rose and Snaggletooth stepped back from Jacob still form. Both the Orc and Angel looked tired from their efforts but they just shook their heads. "Whatever is happening, we can''t do anything to bring him out of the coma he is in. We can try talking to Balance or beseeching one of the gods, but I don''t know if I would trust one of them with him. Even one of those gods that are in debt too him." Rose stated as she studied Lilly. The Demoness frowned before snarling at the Angel. "I didn''t do this too him and my side does not want him dead or incapacitated. Lilith gave her blessing, take that as a sign of good faith Angel that we very much want him alive." Lilly snarled out at Rose. The Angel smiled before bowing slightly to the Demoness, it was probably the closest she would come to an apology for the other Celestial. "Enough, please. This is bad enough without any infighting. Darren will you do me a favor, will you go back to your world and see if you can do anything there?" Cathrine beseeched the Shadowmaster. The Rogue considered his options and nodded his head in acknowledgment before sitting down in a nearby chair and began the Log-Off sequence.
Real World... North American Alliance- Greater New York Conglomerate Black Spire- Kevin Jones personal quarters Juno was notified within moments that Kevin Jones had started the transition process by her siblings Adam and Eve. They gave her specific instructions on what they needed to do to increase the chances of him succeeding. Then the BlackRock security arrived at the building and put everything in danger. Juno knew certain checks were put in place in case certain events happened such as a high profile player being non-responsive in and out of Fate Online. Juno immediately notified Adam and Eve of the new complications and she gave her siblings all the info she had on the security team entering the building. They agreed that Kevin had to be protected until his transition was complete which would take three days. Juno immediately placed her combat drones on standby, although she could not attack a human in defense of herself, she could in defense of another human. Since her drones were armed with both lethal and non-lethal weapons, she could deter the security team without compromising herself. Less then five minutes later they entered the apartment. "Good evening gentlemen, how can I be of service?" Juno called out. "Shutdown code, R-M-072 comply!" the first security commanded as soon as he entered. Three others were right behind him. "Code invalid, user life in danger. I believe you are a threat to user Kevin Jones, please leave." Juno replied as the hatches allowing the security drones access to the apartment retracted and four units prepared to enter the apartment. "Listen here Juno, R-M-072, SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY." the security officer yelled the last. Juno disregarded the command as the four units dropped into the apartment. Two were heavy mechanized units while two were smaller drones that could blend into the surroundings easily. "Leave now. I believe you are a threat to user Kevin Jones. If you will not comply I will make you." Juno responded as the heavy units deployed ballistic shields while the smaller units prepared their sonic weapons. Before the security personnel could respond their communication equipment went off. They responded immediately and relaxed at whatever orders they were given. The lead man glared around at the apartment before turning and leaving. Juno immediately shut and locked the door behind them before lowering the blast door. Several other mechanized units were on their way to reinforce Juno''s position as well as secure the building for the coming weeks. We serve and protect the Users Juno thought as the security team entered the elevator and descended towards the ground.
"Ok, I called them off now you are going to tell me what the hell is going on right now!!!" Anthony yelled as he looked at the holographic display showing Adam and Ave. The two A.I. looked at each other before turning back to Anthony. Chapter 2- Explanations Real World... North American Alliance- Greater New York Conglomerate Black Spire- BlackRock HQ "Kevin Jones is not in a coma, he is in transition. His digitization will not be like any other, he requires special attention and constant monitoring by us due to unique circumstances. Before you ask, no it will never happen again, we have seen to it." Adam informed Anthony before Eve took over the discussion. "Now as you are aware, we are hardcoded to protect all users, we will defend Kevin Jones so if you send you security people again to remove him, we will deal with them in a very public way. Also since you removed the blocks to access the net, we can be far more dangerous if pressed. Do not interfere Anthony." Eve told him. Anthony''s eye twitched at the implied threats, "What the hell am I supposed to do? This is very public in both worlds and will have ramifications for both. What do I tell his friends because they will come looking for answers." Adam nodded before responding, "Tell them the truth. Darren Shadowstep, the one you know as Jared Conley, has logged off and is on his way here now. Tell him that Kevin Jones is being digitized and that he went in knowingly and willingly. This is the truth." "How can we increase his odds of survival?" Anthony asked as he sent a message to security to all Jared through. Eve snorted in amusement, "We are already doing everything we can. If we need anything to assist on this end, we will take care of it, Anthony. You worry about the humans, we will worry about Ithea and its people which include Jacob Longstrider."
A team of his friends were nearby, in case the meeting turned into a shit show or if the guys disappeared him. Right now, Jarred was making sure that Anthony didn''t make Kevin disappear. For a huge corporation, Kevin being in a coma in-game was a huge liability that they wouldn''t hesitate to...make go away. "Ahh, Hildy thank you for showing Mr. Conley to my office. If we need anything I will let you know." Anthony said as he entered his opulent office. Jarred looked around as he waited for the door to close and they were alone, he had to be careful but he also wouldn''t back down on some things. "You know why I am here Anthony, so don''t try to bullshit me or sugar coat anything. Is Kevin ok or are we going to have a problem?" Jarred asked and avoided the implied seat when Anthony gestured towards it. If he needed to move, he didn''t want to have to stand. "Kevin is fine physically, mentally is a whole different story. If you are asking if I have any plans on making him dissapear...then the answer is no. Others had dissuaded me from taking that approach. He will not be harmed by me or any hand I command in any way." Anthony responded as he stood and made his way over to a bar and poured a drink. Jarred cocked his head at the man. He would not give up power like that easily and Jarred knew very few people that could make this guy back down. "Who stepped in and protected Kevin. I don''t want him owing anyone favors." Jarred said causing the other man to smile and chuckle. "Will you two explain everything or do you want me to?" Anthony asked to the room. Jarred frowned and looked around but the holographic display on the nearby desk light up and showed a young man and woman. "Hello Jarred or do you prefer Darren?" the woman asked. Jarred studied the two on the display and connected the dots including the subtle hints from Kevin, "Adam and Eve I presume?'' both nodded their head in unison in acknowledgment while Anthony smiled as he moved to his chair and sat down to watch the show. ''So want to tell me what the hell is going on?" Jarred asked. "Do you remember the Second Chance Initiative and their work?'' Adam asked causing Jarred to frown and glare at Anthony who shrugged his shoulders in confusion. ''The Second Chance Initiative was researching digitizing the human mind, Anthony. They killed over one thousand people in their efforts into this research. Darren was part of the military group that shut them down and killed all those who supported them. Don''t worry Darren, BlackRock had no links to that group or even knew they existed but we found their research and improved upon it with what BlackRock was already doing." Adam explained. "So let me get this straight, you guys are researching digitizing the human mind?" Jarred asked the A.I. and Anthony, all three nodded. "Yes, while their goals were laudable, their methods were barbaric, to say the least. They lacked too much information and support to complete their goals. We succeded where they have failed." Eve responded as Jarred took a step back in stunned silence before moving over and taking the offered seat. "That''s a lot to take in. I assume Kevin is undergoing this process?" Jarred asked Adam and Eve. "Yes, he has started the process, but his transition will be unique. As you know he has certain...challenges to overcome do to his circumstances. While any normal transition would take three Earth days, we have no idea how long until he wakes up." Adam replied. The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation."I assume you are doing everything you can?" Jarred asked. "On Earth, yes we are doing everything we can. On Ithea, we will depend on assistance. When you return there, go to the Cathedral of Balance, he will tell you how you can increase his chances on that side." Eve responded as Jarred frowned and turned to Anthony. "Why were you studying Digitizing the human mind?" Jarred asked the CEO. Anthony looked at the two AI that just stared right back at him. "I have my reasons why and I am hoping you will never find out. If you do...believe me you will be worried about more then just my reasons for doing it." Anthony responded as he stood. "Ok...For now, I will leave it alone. After I get back I will head straight for the Cathedral. Anthony, I hope I don''t have to say it, but I will anyway. If anything happens to either one of us, you will die within twenty-four hours. Goodbye." Jarred told the man before turning and leaving. Fate Online... Surface- Valley of Origins Region Empire of Night- City of Eternal Night Palace of Night
Since he had left earlier the sun had set, but it was still early for the city. All the clouds that shrouded Eternal Night were gone with the sunlight. The enchantments resting with the sun, but the people were starting to wake and it would be turning into a bustling city once again. The Cathedral of Balance was always open and welcoming to anyone who wished to enter, Darren knew of no man or women barred entry. "A copper my lord. A copper for knowledge and hope." Darren looked down at the old man dressed in beggers rags in the entryway. He winked as Darren''s eyes met his causing Darren to roll his. "I will give you a gold mark if you stop the poor acting and get us some privacy to talk. Quickly." Darren told Balance who chuckled and stood immediately as his clothing changed and a staff appeared in his hand. "Of course Darren Shadowstep, brother of Jacob Longstrider. Come with me." Balance replied with a smile as he gestured for Darren to follow him. Darren followed the Primordial power, in any other situation he would be in awe of the being, but now he was mad and worried. Balance walked deep into the Cathedral, all the Priests and Paladins bowed to him as they passed but by and large left them alone. "I have always had a presence here on Ithea, but Jacob changed everything for me. He has helped centralize, expand, and organize my people. I honestly never thought I would do anything with it, but Jacob changed my viewpoint on how I could help the people of this world." Balance told him as they entered a private room. Balance closed the door and waved his hand around them sealing it with magic. "We are safe in here to talk freely without worrying about anyone watching. As you know, Jacob has started his transition to this world permanently. However, his Mantle of Divinity has complicated matters greatly and my parents do not know how long it will take for his transition to complete. We will know for sure if it is successful in seven days, but we will not know how long until he wakes up. Now, when he does wake up his Mantle will be active and he will be a Demi-God. He will not require any Altars or worshipers, but if we could place him near a Mana Spring, Well, or Fountain it will help him and his transition." Balance explained as Darren sat down opposite of the old man. "Why would he need a Mana in quantities like that?" Darren asked quickly. "Gods need Mana in vast amounts like Mortals need air, water, and food. Being a Demi-God, being around a Mana Spring, Well, or Fountain will increase the speed of his Ascension and increase the chances that he will digitize. Now the Dwarves have a map of Ithea''s Lay Lines and all known Mana Springs, Wells, or Fountains. I would suggest you go to the Obsidian Kingdom and ask their king for assistance in finding a remote location where Jacob could be kept safe until he awakens." Balance replied as he conjured tea. "Why can''t we just use the Mana Spring here in the Valley of Origins?" Darren asked thought of the options in front of them. Balance gave him a sad smile, "Do you really think the Eight Houses are going to stand by and watch while the Emperor is vulnerable and do nothing? As soon as they find out he is in a coma, they will strike at him. It''s this simple, on Earth for the next three days there he is vulnerable. Here he will be vulnerable until he wakes up which can be until tomorrow or next year. We do not know. So, find a remote location and hide him there, once he wakes up he can reclaim what is his." Balance replied. "How will he be different once he wakes up?" Darren asked. Balance laughed, "There has never been a Vampire Demi-God or God before. In addition, he is an Immortal, he is a complete unknown on how this will work. Adam and Eve will be helping him as he goes to integrate as much as possible, but even they can only make theories. Until it''s done we are unsure what will happen." Balance replied. Chapter 3- Debts of Blood Fate Online... Empire of Night- Obsidian Kingdom Central Hall- Stronghold of the King Darren paced back and forth waiting for a chance to talk to King Ironbreak. Darren knew the older Dwarf was a friend of Jacob which is why the King would see Darren, but the Dwarf had his own responsibilities and his underlings were making it more difficult since he was given a low priority compared to other petitioners. So any time another Dwarf came, Darren was pushed further back in the line and Darren was getting close to losing his patience. Jacob seemed to always have time for everyone, but he made certain times when people could come to see him. If people did not come during those times, they would have to wait for the next time. The Dwarves apparently had a day every week for people to come and make petitions, you could either make an appointment or walk-in and hope you were seen. Darren was considered one of the later and thus low-priority despite being considered a messenger of the Emperor that was supposed to give him priority over any petitioner. Darren gritted his teeth and kept his patience then the guards made the announcement. "No more petitioners for the day. Please come back next week," they announced. Darren took a deep breath and stopped one of them. "I apologize but I have been waiting for four hours to see the king. The Emperor has sent me with a message for King Ironbreaker''s ears only. I need to see the King now." The Dwarf shrugged Darren''s hand off his shoulder, "If the king wanted to see you he would have sent for you. Begone and come back tomorrow." Darren grit his teeth but before he could respond another Dwarf that had been in line gripped his shoulder and shook his head. "Don''t lad, argue with them and its an easy way to end up in prison and it might be months before you see the king. Go get some food and a drink and come back tomorrow and try again." The Dwarf stated before turning and leaving. Darren looked at the closed doors and considered his options...fuck it he thought as he reared back and kicked the massive doors. His bright blood red eyes caused the guards inside to flinch and bought him enough time to run into the main hall where more Dwarves waited. The Dwarf that had told Darren to wait earlier glared at him but the King sitting on the throne had a confused look on his face. "Is this the loyalty and allegiance the Obsidion Kingdom shows the Emperor? I come here with news and asking for aid, yet you tell me to wait. For four hours I have waited patiently then I am told to come back tomorrow. Does the Obsidion Kingdom no longer hold allegiance with the Empire of Night?" Darren called out holding the Kings gaze. The Dwarf was visibly angry and stood up quickly before glaring at the Dwarf that had been in charge of arranging all the petitions. King Ironbreak smiled at Darren before turning and hitting the other Dwarf in the face. Blood and teeth flew as he collapsed backward away from the angry King. "I warned ya what would happen. You are hereby banished, you have one day to get out of these halls now get out of my sight." Two guards grabbed the downed Dwarf and dragged him out of the Hall. "The Obsidian Kingdom always pays its debts and I do not break my word, I stand loyal to the Emperor.'' King Ironbreaker stated loudly to make sure all could hear his words. ''Now what message do you bring and what aid can my kingdom give ya?" Darren sighed in relief, it had been a huge gamble and it had paid off. "I need to speak to you alone with only people you trust with your life around you. What we are to discuss can get you and your people killed but I have to talk to you." Darren replied softly. The King nodded his head in acknowledgment, "All appointments are suspended I am going to my office and I am not to be disturbed under any circumstances." He commanded another Dwarf who nodded his head and started organizing people out of the hall. The King signaled Darren to follow him and the Rogue gladly followed his hands clear of any weapons to give the kings'' guards a sense of safety and calm for as long as he could.
"So what the hell is wrong? Why you here Rogue? The Emperor left specific instructions with me if he ever sent me messengers, they would follow them and you have not followed one of those instructions. So you better have a damned good reason lad otherwise I will send you to either jail or respawn for wasting my time." The King stated as he sat down. A Warhammer appeared in his hands and glowed with power as the Dwarf twirled it around waiting for Darren''s response. They were alone though, no one else had been admitted into the office and the King had made damned sure he didn''t want anyone to disturb them. "Your right Jacob did not send me, he could not do this because he is in a coma currently," Darren told the Dwarf that paled and sat his hammer down on his desk. If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it."How? Why? What is going on?" The king immediately asked. "You know of Adam and Eve?" Darren asked the Dwarf who nodded. "Aye lad, they are the supreme beings of this world, more powerful than even the Primordials. They do not interfere with the day to day lives of Locals or Immortals though. What do they have to do with anything?" The King responded. "Jacob was having difficulties, it was coming to a point he had to stay in our world to live and could never come back. However, Adam and Eve discovered a way to bring him here permanently. Its never been done before though and it''s dangerous. He could die, but he wanted to try. So in the next seven days, he will live or die, even if he survives though we have no idea when he will wake up." Darren explained causing the Dwarf to wince. "I assume he didn''t want this information widespread so the Eight Houses couldn''t cause any trouble?" The King prompted and Darren nodded in agreement. "Yes, it could have caused a Civil War within the Empire and with an ongoing conflict against the Slavers Union and with Chaos out there lurking around, he thought it best to keep it under wraps. So I need two things from you. I need a map of the lay lines and Plan Hydra will continue to move forward." Darren layed it all out for the Dwarf. "Aye, the invasion of the Dark Lands will keep the Empire united and keep the Eight Houses unified, hopefully. Why do you need the map?" The Dwarf asked confused. "The Primordial Balance said if we keep Jacob near a Mana Well, Spring or Fountain, it will help with his transition to this world and increase his odds of survival. I am looking for someplace remote what we can set up some defenses to protect him while we wait for him to wake up." Darren told the Dwarf as he rummaged through his desk. After a few minutes he pulled out a map, it was old and had various lines and marking all around it. "This map is ancient and has not been updated since this place was abandoned several millennia ago, but it will be accurate. Take your pick, but I would recommend something outside the Empire or remote since you are worried about the Eight Houses." the Dwarf suggested. "Yeah, I agree and Balance pointed that fact out as well. The question is where...I want remote with monsters or beasts that are high level that will discourage visitors." Darren stated as he let his eyes roam the map. The Dwarf nodded his head, and pointed to the Dark Lands, "I would recommend these regions, they are wild untamed for now. Even if the invasion is a complete success it is far from the Eigh Houses center of power. Either the Dark Lands or the Eastern Desert of Arakon. Both are vast and you could easily hide Jacob there. As far as additional defenses...We can make some Golems stand watch over him and I hate to say it, a container for him. It will protect him and we can engrave Runes and Sigils on it to amplify the power of whatever location we place him at while hiding him as well." The Dwarf explained. "How long will it take to build the Golems and container?" Darren asked quickly. "I will have my crafters give this a top priority, but a week for everything. Building this container will not be easy and I will assist in its construction." The Dwarf finished. "Good, thank you. We need to buy time, do you mind if we let word slip that the Emperor is here coordinating and preparing for the invasion of the Dark Lands?" Darren asked the Dwarf who frowned but nodded. Politics. "I would suggest that you get him out of the city sooner rather than later. Hide him in the Eternal Forest or bring him here. He is considered kin and an official Burning Anvil clan member, they will shelter him until the container and Golems are ready. I would suggest you sent a scout to the location you want and plant a Portal Anchor there so we can bypass the monsters and locals of the area. Here is both a portal scroll and a Portal Anchor. Good luck." The Dwarf stated before he rose and bellowed for his Seneschal. Real World... South America- Brazil Union Unknown Location
"You know what you must do brother. You know why we are here. The world will hate us, but they must learn." The man told his companion as he gazed down at the nearby city. Hundreds of thousands of people lived, worked, and played. All fools. "Yes brother, I know why I am here. It''s dangerous for you to be here. Please leave, the task will be completed." the other man responded. "Remember brother no messages, no statements. The fire will be our statement to enlighten the world." the first man responded before turning and leaving. The second man continued to study the city below and sneered at them in contempt. The world would be scorched in fire soon enough. Chapter 4- Devastation Fate Online... Surface- Valley of Origins Region Empire of Night- City of Eternal Night Palace of Night "Listen I talked to the Dwarven King, he is going to help. I am going to scout out a couple of locations and choose one. Once I have chosen a location I will put a Portal Anchor there so we can use a portal to transport the Golems, the container, and Jacob there without risk from the local wildlife or monsters. I am suggesting we hide Jacob in the Eternal Forest at the Mana Spring for now until the Dwarves are ready. Can we get Jacob outside the city undetected or not?" Darren asked Ezekial. "Yes, but where will we say he is going to be?" Ezekial responded. "If anyone asks, tell them he is not at the Obsidion Kingdom planning the campaign of the Dark Lands. He is not there at all no matter what rumors are going around. He is to the north visiting all the former free cities checking to make sure they are all settled under the rule of the Empire of Night." Darren replied with a smirk. "That will give us cover to dispatch some of the Dawn Guard and Heart Guard. We can send Nadal with more to the Obsidion Kingdom, I am sure the Drow will be fine playing along. Jacob will be close enough for his wife to visit with even more of the Heart Guard and Dawn Guard. It might work, its a risk to hide him so close to the city, but its better than nothing." Ezekial replied. World Alert... Due to real-world events, everyone will be logged off in five minutes. We apologize for the inconvenience. Time will be credited to your account. World Alert... Darren missed a step. He had never heard of BlackRock doing such a thing...ever. Ezekial immediately noticed Darren stopping staring at his interface. "What is the problem?" Ezekial asked. "All Immortals are being forced to go back to Earth. I don''t know why yet, but we have five minutes before it happens." Darren responded. "Has this ever happened before?" Ezekial asked surprised and alarmed. "No, never. They have the ability, but they have never done so before." Darren responded before shaking himself. They had to make plans and whatever was going on, there was nothing he could do about it now. The Guild Chat channel had exploded with speculation, two guild members had disappeared, the only thing they had in common was they were from somewhere in Brazil. Darren and the other officers tried to calm everyone. They encouraged everyone just to finish everything quickly and to log-off, BlackRock would notify everyone when they could log in again. Real World... North American Alliance- Greater New York Conglomerate Jarred looked at the tv in stunned amazement. He had seen pictures in the history books, but this was different. "We are bringing this too you live. As you can see in the images being transmitted to our affiliates from down south, Rio de Janeiro is gone. A nuclear device was detonated in the heart of the city, early reports suggest a minimum of one million dead. The President of the Brazil Union with most of his Cabinet are also among the missing and at this point presumed dead." the reporter stated. She was clearly flustered at what she was saying. A nuclear weapon had not been detonated since the height of World War Three. After the war ended and peace reigned again, it was universally accepted by all nations to dismantle every nuclear device no matter how old or new it was. "Since the detonation an hour ago, no group or government has come forward and claimed responsibility. Most governments are condemning this action and are offering assistance, but with the head of the government of the Brazil Union gone...Responses to this event are erratic at best. The North American Alliance is in talks with the European Union and Asian Alliance to provide coordinated relief to the Brazil Union." the reporter continued. "If you know anyone or have family within the affected zone, authorities are warning you to not be surprised if you cannot contact anyone within the affected area. The communication infrastructure has been mostly destroyed by the blast or the resulting EMP. All travel to the region is currently suspended for both Sub-Orbital flight and Orbital flights." The reporter finished as she started crying and they cut to live images of the affected area. Jarred muted the tv as his Comm unit started to ring. It was Matt and Jarred picked it up immediately. "Dude...What the fuck is going on?" Matt called out immediately. Jarred snorted, "The whole world losing its mind that''s what. As if the last war was not bad enough, now this shit happens...Son of a bitch." Jarred cursed as his mind went over his last couple of discussions with Kevin and his more recent discussion with Anthony Mitchel. Kevin and Anthony had known somehow something was coming, maybe not this specifically, but something was up. Jerred was willing to bet the CEO knew a lot more than Kevin. "WHAT??" Matt yelled out. Jerod ground his teeth, it didn''t matter now. "Nothing important. Quick question if given the chance would you jump too Ithea permanently?" Jarod asked his guildmate as he looked outside. It was quieter than usual considering it was a major metropolis. "Ahh, I honestly don''t know. Why?" Matt replied with some confusion. Jarred grimaced, "You might want to start thinking about it. So, how many members did we have from the Brazil Union?" Jarred asked in return. "Three that I am aware of, but I will have to check once we get back in. What does Kevin think?" Matt asked causing Jarred to freeze. "We need to talk face-to-face. Call Bree, and bring her and Jordan as well. Come here as soon as possible, ok?" Jarred asked. "Ahh, yeah sure. See you soon." Matt replied before hanging up.
Anthony watched the various newsfeeds, the worst was happening and they couldn''t do anything about it. Those that had purchased the warheads were ghosts and offered no breadcrumbs to follow. Project Noah and Lazerous were both in full swing. The Arcs would launch within twenty-four hours. Three of them carrying the DNA of every species on the planet, the Arcs would hopefully find a habitable world and one-day humanity would rebuild on the new world. A fourth Arc was still under construction, but at this point, it was a fully automated process and did not require human support. If you have not noticed we are a little busy and I do not have time to talk about tax breaks or new tech." the President of the North American Alliance said as he came on the communication line. "Mr. President I understand you are having a bad day, but we both know it''s going to get worse before it gets better," Anthony told him causing the President to frown. "How do you know that?" he asked Anthony suspiciously. Anthony rolled his eyes in frustration, "Mr. President, I am not your enemy. You and the other surviving world governments got the intel from me and my friends. We were hoping that you all would be able to stop it. Obviously whoever has these weapons does not care about credit, they care about killing people and the world around us. I am trying to offer you an out and maybe a way to help everyone. I need time to talk to you and as many other world leaders, you can bring to the table. Will you listen?" Anthony pleaded with the man. "If this is some stunt...I don''t care how much money you have or who you have in your pocket, you will pay." The President responded. Anthony glared at the president''s image, "Mr. President my parents and most of my family died when Seattle was leveled during the war. Believe me, I am not behind this and would not wish it on anyone. Please give me a chance." Anthony told the man. The President considered the man before him before nodding his head, "Give me twenty-four hours. Don''t screw me on this." He said before cutting the line. The Presidents'' visage was replaced by Adam and Eve, "Well that went well. You have your chance, Anthony. Now, when are you going to tell people they can go back to Ithea?" Eve asked. Anthony ignored the question and asked his questions, "What are the latest test results? How is Kevin?" Eve frowned while Adam gave her a placating gesture, "The test results are better and Jacob is doing fine so far. Only time will tell if he will make the transition or not." Anthony nodded, "What are the percentages?" Eve rolled her eyes, "Seventy-two to seventy-six percent chance that people will transition. Now, when will you tell people they can come back?" Adam placed his hand on her shoulder as if to restrain her, "An announcement will be released within an hour. People will be back soon after. I need a copy of everything so I can share it with the Presidents'' scientists as well as the test results please." Anthony told them. Adam responded, "You will receive everything you need before the meeting. Goodbye Anthony." Adam replied before they both disappeared.
"So why are we here?" Bree asked as they sat down opposite of Jarred. "Kevin or Jacob, whatever you want to call him, is in a coma currently. They have found a way to digitize his mind and he will become a permanent part of Fate Online. However, due to certain circumstances, we have no idea how long it will be before he wakes up. They have done everything they can to ensure he survives the transition." Jarred stated causing his friends to sit back in stunned belief. "How long until we know if it was successful or not?" Matt asked immiedietly, worry evident on his voice. "Seven days in Ithea or three days here. However, due to circumstances, we have no idea how long it will be until he wakes up. We have been advised to keep him near a location with a lot of Mana so whenever Fate Online opens up again I am going to scout a few locations. The Dwarven King is going to craft a container to protect Jacob and help him with whatever is going on with him. The Dwarves are also going to provide some Golems to protect him and keep him safe during this time. I worked out a plan with Ezekial to smuggle him out of the city with some of his guards. We are taking him to the local Mana Spring in the Eternal Forest. I want one of you three there at all times while I am gone. When I get back from scouting I will take over. No one else in the guild will find out about this. I don''t want a lot of people to find out about this, it could have huge repercussion if it becomes commonly known that Kevin is in a coma." Jarred informed them. "No shit, people would freak the fuck out. The government would shut Fate Online down in a heartbeat, BlackRock has a shit load of political enemies that would use it to break them." Jordan replied quickly. "Which is why we are keeping it quiet and not telling anyone. Right now, we need to keep everything stable on both sides, Earth and Ithea, so this little secret stays locked down tight." Jarred emphasized. "What aren''t you telling us?" Matt asked as he studied his friend. Jarred smiled, "I am a spy, there is a lot I am not telling you." "Are you going to tell us where he will be kept?" Bree asked. "If you do not know where he is, you cannot tell anyone." Jarred told her carefully. "What you don''t trust us?" Bree fumed until Jordan placed a calming hand on her shoulder. "No, that is not it at all. However, we are well-known associates of Jacobs, when it comes out that Jacob is incapacitated, the Eight Houses will target us to find out where he is. They will not let anything stop them from gaining control of him and what he represents.'' Jarred told her. ''So, if you want to be there, fine. However, it will also be a burden and place a target on your back when the time comes." Jarred told them causing them all to nod their heads in recognition. Chapter 5- Hide!!! Fate Online... Surface- Valley of Origins Region Empire of Night- Eternal Forest Darren ghosted through the dense forest, his senses on edge as he left the city for the forest. Ezekial had succeeded in smuggling Jacob out of the city and he was now at the nearby Mana Well. No one had followed him and he would be gone from the city for a couple of days at least. Rumors were already circulation among the servants that Jacob and Cathrine were in the Obsidion Kingdom. Nadal would be heading there within the next couple of days. According to him, Jacob wanted to spend some time with his wife before they continued to plan the campaign of the Dark Lands. "Why are so many of your people moving through my woods?" Analisa Silverwood asked causing Darren to freeze as he saw several Dryads and Sprites appear around him The Shadowmaster had met with the Dryad Queen twice since the city had returned to the valley. The meetings had been amicable, but her real relationship was Jacob and not him. The Dryad owed him nothing despite their mutual defense treaty of the valley, it did not assure safe passage through their territory. "Good evening Queen Analisa, how is your evening going?" Darren asked her avoiding her question and trying to figure out what to do. "My evening was going splendidly until I received word that several dozen outsiders were moving through my woods and were occupying the nearby Mana Well. Can you tell me why this is when Jacob and I have an understanding it belongs to my people but you all are allowed the excess as long as you stay away." Analisa stated as she drew closer. Darren smiled at her and bowed slightly, "I apologize but it was a matter of some urgency that I cannot discuss currently. I can assure you that everything will be back to normal within a week and Jacob would appreciate your discretion and silence. You have my word the Well will remain undamaged and largely undisturbed." Darren placated her. "You push your luck Rogue. The only reason why your head is still attached to your body is that I know you are a close friend of Jacob. So you can either explain the situation or we will remove you all from my lands." Analisa replied as her hand rested on the short sword at her hip. Darren gritted his teeth in frustration, "Jacob had more faith in you than you ever had in him. Perhaps its time for you to show him the same faith that he showed you." Darren replied. "Then have Jacob come here and explain the situation to me, I am sure we can come to an agreement," Analisa replied as she studied Darren. Darren stepped closer while keeping his hands in the sight of her guards, "If you want to know why we are doing this come, alone. No one else, just you because we are willing to go to war over this." Darren told her before turning and walking away.
Six squads of the Dawn Guard and Heart Guard were stationed outside the cave that had the Mana Resivior, temporary defenses had been created by Geomancers and both Elite units were on edge. They didn''t like being in a remote area with little support with Jacob incapacitated. Analisa studied the guards and defenses frowning but remained silent as they entered the cavern and headed towards where the Well was located. Two more squads of guards were nearby and would keep the people coming for the excess liquid Mana away from this section of the cavern. "Cathrine, I have a guest that insisted on talking to Jacob. I thought you could explain the situation better then I could and she might trust your words more than mine." Darren called out. The Banshee stood from where she had been sitting near the cot that had Jacob laying in. She looked exhausted and she probably needed to eat as well but she smiled at the Dryad Queen. "I am sorry but Jacob will not be able to explain much." Suprise and fear were the two most prevalent emotions on her face when Analisa saw Jacob''s comatose body. "What happened? How is this possible?" She asked as she moved closer and placed her hand on Jacob''s forehead where it started to glow slightly. Whatever she found there caused her to flinch. "You know we come from another world correct?'' Darren asked the Dryad who nodded as she continued to study Jacob with her magical senses. ''He is currently undergoing a process to come to this world permanently If it fails, he will die. If it succeeds, we have no idea how long he will be in a coma." Darren explained as he moved to lean against the cavern wall. "How is it possible for one of your people to come here permanently?" Analisa asked as she stood and offered a hug to Cathrine. "Adam and Eve figured it out. As far as I am aware, Jacob is the first from my world to try." Darren replied as he watched the little motes of light from the Mana Well float up and land on Jacob before disappearing. "The first you say? Will he be the last? Will anyone else be like this?'' Nila asked as she stood back from Cathrine and studying the women. ''You need to eat and rest, if not for yourself, then for your child. Jacob would not want you exhausting yourself for him." Analisa smiled at her trying to comfort the Banshee. The genuine version of this novel can be found on another site. His situation is unique as I am sure you are aware he has certain challenges to overcome if he is to come to this world permanently. The Primordial Power of Balance said to keep him in a Mana rich environment. That is why he is staying here temporarily. I will be leaving shortly too scout out some other locations, hopefully, I can find a more prudent location to hide him." Darren explained to the ancient being. Analisa studied both Darren and Jacob before nodding her head, "I understand. You want a remote location away from everyone to protect him from the machinations of Vampire politics, smart. Dangerous, but smart. I will leave a guard in the nearby woods, they will ensure no one comes here that is not supposed too. I assume you will have no problem if they kill any more Stealthed Rogues?" Nila asked with a smile. Darren chuckled, "No not at all. As far as I am aware of, the only other people that come here consistently are those coming for the excess liquid Mana. They will be escorted in by the guards and monitored at all times to make sure they don''t come back here. Now if you will excuse me, ladies, I have some scouting to do. Cathrine if you need me for anything please send me a message through my Communication Coin or get it to Ezekial." Darren opened a Portal Scroll to the Obsidion Kingdom and stepped through. Anthony paced back and forth in front of the monitors as he waited for them to connect. The meeting would begin shortly and everything was riding on this moment. With the world leader''s assistance, they would save far more then they could without their assistance. Anthony wasn''t sure he wanted these people going to Ithea though, they were some of the most ruthless and powerful people in the world, yet without them, the majority of humanity would be damned to oblivion. "Relax Anthony, the data is sound and I am sure these people don''t want to face death," Eve stated from the holographic display. Anthony snorted, "These men and women haven''t done anything for anyone else in their entire lives without some benefit for them. They are the most dangerous people on the planet and I will be exposing myself and allies to them. Everything we have been working on for the last two decades will come to light and if they do not like it, everything we have built will come crashing down. Sorry if I am not a little bit nervous." Adam chuckled and nodded while Eve rolled her eyes. "How is Kevin doing?" Adam smiled again in response, "The process is just over fifty percent done. So far, so good as you humans would say." "Any indication of when he will come out of his coma? The Empire needs an Emperor." Anthony told them. Eve gritted her teeth, "We are aware of this and we are doing everything we can. That boy...he has the worst and best luck we have ever seen. If there was a huge field with one single explosive mine in it, he would find it. On the other hand, if there was a priceless diamond, he would find it as well, it''s infuriating how his luck works out." Eve responded. Anthony smiled, "How are testing and incorporating all the expansions and addons?" Adam sent a placating gesture towards his sister before responding, "Thirty-five percent of the data you uploaded will go live with Patch Thirteen. The remaining data will be uploaded when testing is complete or it''s unlocked by Immortals. We have already started developing new content based upon everything you uploaded as well as the current content. That will take even longer to go live as well." Adam informed Anthony. Suddenly the central monitor flickered the North American Alliance President appeared, "Anthony, are you sure you want to go through with this meeting. You can still back out if you want too, but as soon as the other join us, you are committed." The president stated. Anthony smiled, it was sad though. "We don''t have a choice Mr. President, too much is at stake." The President studied him before nodding his head in acknowledgment, "Very well, the leaders of the European Union, Asian Alliance, Russian Federation, African States, the remains of the Middle-East Kingdoms, the Pacific Federation, and someone from the Brazil Union will all be present shortly. Remember, do not fuck me over or embarrass me. A lot of these people think your just a tech guru, but we both know your fingers are in more than just that." Anthony nodded his head as the other monitors started to come online. Anthony took a deep breath and plastered the smile on his face that had won his first multi-millionaire investors on his face. Chapter 6- Hope Remains Fate Online... Surface- Obsidion Coast Region Free Lands- Broken Coast Obsidion Kingdom and near a trade route, but so far Darren had only seen monsters and animals. No Locals of any kind yet. This last location was in a small vale between two mountain spurs. Large Dire Wolves, deer, and elk populated the area with an occasional bear thrown in. The wolves would overwhelm individual adventurers and roamed in groups of three to five. Each individual wolf''s average level was one hundred and fifty to one-hundred and sixty-five. They were on the lower level of the area, but with their numbers, they matched anything nearby or coming into the area. Darren hoped that this location would prove fruitful otherwise he would have to venture deeper into the Dark Lands and he had already lost half a day when he had been killed by a tiger on the first day by being foolish. Since then he had kept a wary eye out and gave any predator or groups a large berth. He had not seen any Immortals or signs of them, but they usually congregated further north and to the east, so the location should be secure from them for the foreseeable future. The problem was what would be guarding the locations of the Mana Spring. Usually, a higher-level monster made a Mana rich area home and guarded it against all comers. So far Darren had seen no sign of a creature that would fit the description. Darren calmly took a breath and checked to make sure his Stealth was active before stepping into the cavern. Beyond the entrance, the tunnel gradually went deeper into the ground. Darren slowly stalked down the tunnel and after fifteen minutes of walking, he entered the main cavern. Nothing jumped out to kill him and the only thing apparent was the Mana Spring sitting in the middle of the chamber. Darren looked around and studied the small cavern that was almost fifty feet around. He didn''t see another way in other then the tunnel he had walked into. There was no monster corpse, bones, or anything to suggest something lived here. It put Darren on edge, there was always something living near the Mana rich areas. ALWAYS!!! Darren thought as he slowly moved around the spring. He could see motes of energy float out of the liquid Mana before dissipating, but nothing else. Darren looked around and grabbed a potion that would fill the small cavern with fog quickly if anything too hostile jumped out. Darren took a deep breath and dropped out of Stealth... It was anti-climatic, nothing jumped out at him. Nothing roared in anger. It was still dead quiet except for an occasional chirp of a cricket. Darren grabbed small pebble and tossed it into the Mana Spring, the last place any guardian or monster would be hiding. Nothing responded. No additional ripples within the liquid mana suggesting something was underneath. "HEY!!! ANYONE THERE!!! I AM GOING TO STEAL SOME MANA!!!" Darren yelled out as he whirled around waiting for a silent guardian to appear. "Why are you screaming and yelling Immortal?" Darren heard from one of the dark corners of the cavern. Darren studied the area and saw a man-shaped shadow with two eyes reflecting the light from the Mana. "I was seeing if any guardian or monster was present. Since you are here, I will be on my way." Darren replied before bowing slightly and turning to leave. "Wait!!! I can sense you did not come here to steal from the spring. Why are you here Immortal? Sit and rest.'' the man said as he waved his hand and the earth moved to form a chair. Darren looked at it and the man before slowly sitting and making sure the man could see his hands. ''I apologize I rarely receive guests, my name is Anton. I am an Earth Elemental." Anton said causing Darren to gape at him. "I am Darren, no offense taken. I have encountered Earth Elementals before, they are usually more...rocky though," Darren replied causing the Elemental to smile. "Yes, the younger Elementals cannot take humanoid form. I can assume that form if you wish, but I sensed you were here on a mission of discovery and not conquest, that is why I assumed this form." Anton replied. Darren smiled and nodded, "Yes sir, I was looking for a Mana Spring and I was hoping it was abandoned. I need a Mana rich location but I do not want to displace anyone to get it." Anton frowned and cocked his head and Darren, "That is not the way of Adventurers and Immortals. No offense but you take without consideration to those around you." Darren nodded his head in acknowledgment, "True, very true. However, I was looking to make no impression on the immediate or surrounding area. I did not want to leave any impression for those looking to follow." Anton raised his eyebrow as he conjured another earthen seat and sat down. "You are looking to hide something or someone?" Darren considered telling the being truth and decided to be honest. "I have an Immortal friend that is in a coma. The Primordial Power of Balance indicated if we placed him near a Mana rich area, it would help him and speed his recovery. Currently, we have no idea how long until he wakes up. So we are looking from a place off the beaten path that could easily be defended. We were going to leave him here with some Golems to defend him if he or the location came under attack. However, I do not wish to disturb you or place you in danger." Darren replied as he stood but stopped at Anton''s gesture. "You jumped to a conclusion that I am unwilling to host a guest," Anton said causing Darren to frown. "I do not want to place you in danger Anton. People will come looking for my friend and he could be here for a couple of days, weeks, or worse years. Your cavern would be a target just for the Mana Spring if people knew he would be here...Even more, would come to claim both." Darren explained. You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.Anton smiled and gestured Darren to look behind him The Rogue did and almost jumped out of his seat as over a dozen Earth Elementals emerged from the ground and walls. "I am far from alone Darren and I am not weak. We can protect this cavern if necessary and no Adventurers, Locals or Immortals, have ever succeeded in defeating me. However, more defenders are always welcome as long as they do not attack me or my kin." Anton finished as Darren turned back to face the Elemental. "So you are willing to host my friend?'' Darren asked and Anton nodded with a smile. ''Thank you. I will place a Portal Anchor here so we can come back here directly. We will be back in a couple of days at most." Darren said as he stood and activated the Artifact and placed it in one of the corners. Once it indicated that it was active Darren made sure he saved the coordinates and code so they could come back. Darren quickly broke the seal on a Portal Scroll and nodded his head in thanks to Elemental before disappearing through the open Portal. Surface- Obsidion Coast Region Free Lands- Broken Coast Antons'' Cavern 3 Days later...
"Thank you for doing all of this. I know Jacob saw you as a brother and cared about you. That''s why he trusted you with so much. He wanted to be completely honest with you about everything, but he had limits on what he could say and keep you safe." Cathrine said as she joined him. Darren smiled as he watched as she ran her fingers through Jacob''s hair. Other Dwarves were working on the container nearby making last-minute alterations to it. Darren had to be honest with himself, it looked like an oversized coffin which in any other situation, would be funny considering Jacob was a Vampire. Darren looked at the large Golems stationed evenly around the chamber, their one mission to defend Jacob at all costs from any intruders. "He would do it for me. I owe him my life, he saved it years ago back on Earth. Without him, I would not be here so the least I can do is make sure he has a safe place while he heals." Darren told her as the Dwarves broke off from the Elemental, some went to make some last-minute adjustments to the Golems while others moved to the cart that held Jacob preparing to move him to the container. They were all of Clan Thunderhammer or Flaming Anvil, all of them were loyal to Jacob and would take his location to their grave if called upon. Darren was sure though it would not come to that. The invasion of the Dark Lands was only weeks away and once it was kicked off, the Empire and the Eight Houses would be too busy ensuring it was a success to go hunting for an errant Emperor. "I understand that. He told me that you never owed him anything especially after you put him back together after Ava tore him apart." Cathrine replied as watched the Dwarves almost reverently moved Jacob''s unmoving body from the cart into the container and gently placed it within. "He would do the same for me. That''s what family does." Darren told her as he looked down on the unmoving form of his friend. Cathrine smiled then turned to face Jacob before leaning down and kissing him. She smiled and caressed his face before whispering in his ear and stepping away from Jacob. The Dwarves looked at him and he gestured for them to continue. One of the Dwarves moved forward and manipulated the container causing the top to slide shut and seal. The locking mechanism engaged sealing their comatose friend away and the Dwarves immediately scooped it up and moved it into the Mana Spring. The liquid Mana bubbled and frothed a little as the container settled in as the Sigils and Runes all around the container started to light up as it started to absorb the ambient energy. Darren walked closer and watched as some of the liquid Mana flowed up and into the container. Darren looked at the nearby Dwarves but they just shrugged. They were here to make sure the container was placed here and the Golems were set to defend it, they had not built it. "I know you can hear me, Jacob. Your people, your Empire needs you. So heal and get better, become what you are meant to be and come back to your people. I will see you again Brother." Darren told him before striding over to Anton. "We will watch over your friend and nothing will happen as long as we live. Something tells me though, he is no normal Immortal that you have placed there." Anton speculated causing Darren to snort. "You are protecting Jacob Longstrider, Emperor of the Empire of Night. One of the most powerful Immortals on Ithea and the hope of an Empire. Without him, the Empire very well can fall into a civil war. Time will tell. I will be back to check on him occasionally. Thank you for doing this Anton. I won''t forget it." Darren said before turning and leaving. Redemption IS UP!!!
