《A new Breath Online》 A New Breath Online Chapter 0 - Out of breath A new Breath online chapter 0 - Out of breath Thunderous rhythm resembling the pass of a storm, echoing through an old house filled with dust and oxide, trembling wood planks that fear steps of those who pass and a tired focused face that precedes determination and experience. A man, named Basilis hammered a red piece of bended iron that looked like a scythe. ¡°Uh, finally ending my last work¡±said the man while plunging a red object into cold oil that whistled as they blended together. After doing the finishing touches, Basilis sighed at the sight of the plain old and just repaired scythe. ¡°It is as people said¡ Passion is great and all, but they don''t pay the bills if you are not lucky¡±. A doorbell was heard just as Basilis finished. *Ding dong* Surprise filled Basilis face as he thought ¡°that old lady, just as I finished. Does she have some kind of clairvoyance? Oh well, she knows me for a long time, I guess she just knows.¡± ¡°Oldie, are you a witch or something!?¡± He yelled. ¡°Your hammering can be heard in the whole town, you small minded idiot!¡± Replied the old grandma. ¡°Oh, right.¡± Thought Basilis as he opened the door for the old grandma. *Whack!* A wood stick repeatedly hit Basilis right on his shoulders ¡°Hey! Stop! Stop!¡± *Whack*¡°That¡¯s¡±*whack*¡±for¡±*whack*¡±calling me¡±*whack*¡±a witch!¡± Said the old grandma. ¡°Stop!¡± *Whack* ¡°I am sorry!¡± With teary eyes as he tried to defend himself, rebuked Basilis. ¡°Humm! Good thing you know your place. Now gimme my thing!¡± Demanded the old grandma while holding her hand towards Basilis. If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. ¡°Give me some minutes, I just ended the piece. Need to pack it.¡± Replied Basilis as he left towards the counter. ¡°Ah, right¡ Boyo, is it true that you are stopping your work here?¡± Inquired the old gramma with a sad face. ¡°... Yes. Will start working in the supermarket. Nowadays a blacksmith is not needed with all the technology that we have.¡± He replied with a bitter smile as he packed the scythe in a wooden box. Confusion filled the old grandma. ¡°And what about Bask? I thought you were going to instruct him with your families forging techniques.¡± Basilis replied with a flat tone. ¡°I will be the last one, there¡¯s no need for smith¡¯s anymore, no need to curse my boy with such skills¡± He then gave the old grandma the box. ¡°But¡¡± She tried to convince Basilis to keep on forging, she knew his family from old times. Smither from many generation ago, making any metal shine with lustre. The Chryso family. But when she saw his eyes, such lifeless ones, she knew he made his decision. ¡°Grandma, thanks for everything.¡± A true smile blossomed in his face, making her feel sad at the thought of the young boy who played by the river, stop his dreams of old. ¡°... good luck¡± Quietly said the grandma as she left the smith. ¡°Good luck, boyo¡± *Later that night* ¡°Oh! Basilis!¡± Exclaimed a bulk man as he saw Basilis enter the town¡¯s pub. With a cheery tone, Basilis replied as he sat down next to the man. ¡°Hey there Alexander, how was business today?¡± ¡°Ha!¡± Laughed Alexander before gulping a big portion of his drink. ¡°That hits the spot¡ Well, business is as always. Letonia says that at this pace we will have to sell the store and do the same as you.¡± ¡°Sancho! Give me your strongest ale! Two of them!¡± Shouted Basilis to the barkeep. ¡°Ohohohoho, what is wrong with you today? The cheapest fuck I know is giving me good ale!¡± Replied Alexander with a laugh and many other laughs were heard in the pub. A bit ashamed with the laughs, Basilis replied. ¡°Ah, ended a delivery today, oldie gave me an extra.¡± ¡°Eh? An extra?¡± Cheerfulness disappeared from Alexander¡¯s face. ¡°That means¡ you done?¡± Whispered Alexander while moving closer to basilis, the smell of alcohol could be smelled from his mouth. Basilis started to chug the big pint of ale that Sancho just gave him, stopped halfway the pint then said with a melancholic face. ¡°Yes, no more, this old man has to change as time have changed. I''ve become like my old man in his days" "A rusted hammer" A new Breath online Chapter 1 - Stale breath A new Breath Online Chapter 1 Stale breath. *2 years later* ¡°Thank you for your patronage!¡± Responded Basilis with a smile towards the person in the other side of the counter. ¡°Working in a market is really boring.¡± Thoughts of old days working in the shop gave him a slight melancholic moment. While lost in his thoughts, another customer reached the counter. ¡°Hello!¡± Again, with the fake smile Basilis welcomed another customer. And again, and again, and again¡ ¡°How much till the end of this day!?¡± Desperation filled his mind as he looked at the clock while no-one was seeing him. He learned this precious skill in the years that he has been working in this simple market. ¡°Two more hours¡¡± whispered under his breath as he saw the old mechanical clock on the wall. Unexpectedly, his cellphone rang. ¡°Eh? Who¡¯s ca-¡± Basilis mind froze as he saw the caller. ¡°... Supervisor! I need a quick break!¡± He shouted towards his supervisor while leaving his counter. ¡°H-hello?¡± He said while answering the phone. ¡°Hello Basilis, it¡¯s been a while since last time we talked.¡± A melodic voice went through the phone. ¡°Milenia¡ it¡¯s, it''s been a while.¡± Savoring the moment, he didn''t know what to say. ¡°Yes¡ How is your job going?¡± A distant sound responded. Dejected by the question, knowing why she said that, he responded ¡°It¡¯s ok¡ It can pay the bills. Yours?¡± ¡°... Interesting. Hey, have you seen the news lately?¡± Answered Milenia with a tinge of surprise. ¡°Not much, life is all about my training and my job.¡± He said with a flat tone. ¡° ¡ y..r t..i.n..g¡¡± He heard a mumble through the phone. ¡°Eh? Can¡¯t hear you.¡± ¡°Nothing, just wanted to make sure of something. Right to the point. Bask wants to talk to you.¡± Said Milenia. ¡°Oh! Put the boy on the phone!¡± Basilis said excited. ¡°Boy? He is going to become 16 years old this year.¡± She said rolling her eyes. ¡°You know, family customs. Tis but a boy if ye can¡¯t swing a hamm¡¯r.¡± He said with a proud tone. ¡°He will soooo appreciate that.¡± Mocked Milenia. ¡°Well well, put the boy on the phone.¡± He replied hastily. ¡°Can¡¯t. He is at his kendo school¡± She clarified. ¡°Kendo? Since when does he practice Kendo?¡± ¡°... 1 years and a half¡¡± ¡°...¡±Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon. ¡°...¡± *cough* ¡°Well, I can make him a really nice katana if that¡¯s what he wants.¡± He stated. ¡°I really don''t know what he wants. Just make sure to be available at 06:45 pm in your time zone.¡± Said Milenia with a demanding tone. ¡°Ok? I will be at home at that moment.¡± Doubt filled Basilis with such a specific time. ¡°And don''t go on training and forget about this. Bask really wants to talk to you.¡± She said. ¡°He kept bothering me about calling you.¡± ¡°Ok ok¡ I¡¯ll be home at that moment¡±. He answered. ¡°So¡ Goodbye.¡± Said Milenia, with an expectant tone. ¡°Good-¡±Basilis stopped himself from ending the call, feeling the tone from Milenia¡¯s voice. A voice he had heard lots of times in the past. Hesitation filled himself, but a spark of bravery made him say what he wanted to ¡°Milenia.¡± Surprise filled Milenia¡¯s mind as she answered ¡°What?¡± ¡°Can we meet?¡± He said with a determined tone. ¡°... No.¡± Sadness filled the phone call as Milenia rejected Basilis. Time went past as memories filled both talkers without words. Seconds went by and in a moment Basilis said. ¡°... Hey, tell the boy to call me at the time.¡± ¡°... Yes, I¡¯ll make sure of it. He really resembles his father with his time management.¡± Mocked Milenia. ¡°And resembles his mother with his good brains, I expect?¡±mocked Basilis. ¡°Of course, the son of a genius can¡¯t be some random kid!¡± She answered with a proud voice. ¡°Ok ok, good bye. Need to keep on working.¡± He said with a smile on his face. ¡°Good bye¡± Said Milenia as she hanged up. ¡°Wow! She still hangs up fast!¡± Said Basilis with a melancholic smile looking through a mirror. ¡°... I love you¡¡± ¡°Well, time to work. Boyo must really need me if he wants to talk to me¡± He said as he tried to cheer himself up. While walking towards the counter, he saw his colleagues watching TV and said ¡°Hey, why are all you guys crowding around the TV?¡± ¡°What? How why? Haven''t you seen news lately?!¡± Answered a colleague. ¡°Ehh¡ No?¡± ¡°Why is everyone asking me that now?¡± Was his thought. ¡°So that¡¯s why you aren''t here! Look at this!¡± Said the colleague as he pointed at the screen. ¡°You came at the right moment! Just see this¡ It¡¯s history in the making!¡± "If real life is not the challenge that you need, then let¡¯s make another life" This sentence caught his attention. He saw the Global Government Alliance spokesperson in the TV. ¡°Moral has been at its lowest in 50 years. Productivity is lowering by a 5% and natality has decrease by a 8% in just 10 years. Life has become a cage for most of you, hasn''t it?¡± ¡°...Yes.¡± Basilis thought. ¡°These statistics are part of the global consensus. Most people now just want to live by the UBI, and don¡¯t want to try more. Then there are those with old skills that can¡¯t just find their place in such an advanced world.¡± continued the GGA spokesperson. ¡°... Yes.¡± Basilis said in a whispering tone. ¡°And with this, we have to remember the words ¡®To live is to suffer, to survive is to find meaning in the suffering.¡¯ With this, and all we have said until now, we are presenting you our solution to your new suffering, to your new place to try to find meaning¡± Basilis eyes trembled as he remembered all the sweat and blood he spilled, all the suffering he went through and what all that meant to him. ¡°Virtual Reality. The new era of mankind.¡± ¡°"Virtual Reality is the future. For those who think that this world is not enough, we will give you a new one" ¡°Eh?¡± Doubt filled Basilis as he heard such unexpected words while everyone else was cheering in the room, from the spokesperson of the Global Government Alliance. ¡°Virtual reality? How can this shit help me?¡± He said as he left the room filled with uncertain anger. ¡°What the hell are they thinking? Playing video games is now the cure?¡± As he reached the counter, he did his best to calm down while he attended the remaining customers, and bit by bit time went by. His work turn finished just as he calmed himself, but doubt still filled his mind. ¡°How does virtual reality help any of us? Isn''t it just moving with something with your brain?¡± He thought. ¡°Well, let''s see what boy wants me for.¡± Basilis said. ¡°It can''t be to play with him, right?¡± Said Basilis trying to ridicule that same idea, but as he knew himself and his son, he just stopped while moving towards his home. ¡°... Right?¡± A new Breath online Chapter 2 - Relieved breath Relieved breath. In the midst of a city, in a standard 10 floor hive type building, a continuous splash of water and a tick of a clock were the only things that could be heard inside of the apartment A147. Basilis, with his face wet, saw his mirror with eyes full of expectation and¡ a kind of fear. ¡°So¡ virtual reality.¡± He thought as he submerged his face inside a hand wash bowl full of water. ¡°I really didn''t expect this, I wish this government solution works after all.¡± Seeing that it was past 8 pm with his self-made mechanical clock, he decided to make dinner. ¡°Mmm¡ It''s been long since I did some forging, or even played anything at all.¡± ¡°Oh right.¡± While walking towards his kitchen, he remembered to turn on the TV since everyone has been on about the virtual reality news and all. Rubbish was on the news channel, about the growing tension around the world, the unemployment has reached new peaks but efficiency has only gone upwards. ¡°This world is really fucked up now, being 40 years old and all¡ The world just changed one day and now everything is for the younger ones.¡± Feeling left out, he made a simple dinner: eggs and bread with a cup of peach juice. ¡°Maybe, just maybe¡ Virtual reality is really the answer!¡± Some moment after ending his dinner and watching TV, something surprising happened. ¡°Milenia Rachduker, the genius in charge of the Virtual Reality game to be launched with the support of the Global Government Alliance, just made a speech to give more information about the game. It''s called A New Breath Online, ANBO for short. And it seems-¡± the reporter in the screen stopped speaking with a deadpan face. He started speaking on his microphone attached to his collarbone while being muted on the screen. ¡°And it seems this game will really be another reality, full virtual reality immersion, I repeat, full virtual reality immersion.¡± Cold sweat started to appear on Basilis¡¯ back, thinking about his call with his son almost 2 hours ago. ¡°It''s true¡ She made it.¡± Excitement filled his face. ¡°I can¡ I CAN!¡± *2 hours before* Door of room A147 closed as Basilis entered his apartment. As he saw his clock and said ¡°Six twenty something, good that I reached home before the call.¡± As he changed clothes into something more comfortable, organized his training equipment and prepared himself for his training, the phone rang. ¡°Eh? But¡ its 6:35 pm?¡± He thought. As he picked up the phone, he saw his friend name. ¡°Oh, it¡¯s Alexander.¡± ¡°Hello there.¡± He said. ¡°Basilis, my brother! How are you doing?¡± Answered Alexander with a breathless voice and some rustling could be heard in the background. ¡°Quite fine. Job pays as it should.¡± He said as he held his sight on the clock. ¡°And you?¡± ¡°All is good, all is good. Just checking on you.¡± Said Alexander. ¡°Hey, have you seen the news lately?¡± ¡°Why is everyone asking me that lately?¡± He thought. ¡°No, why is everyone asking me that? Are you pulling a prank or something? Milenia asked me the same thing.¡± ¡°Oh¡ Well, just turn on your TV today you old school greedy cheapskate hard dri-¡± Did you know this story is from Royal Road? Read the official version for free and support the author. Basilis interrupted the phone call saying ¡°ok, bye¡± and hang up. ¡°What the hell?¡± He thought. Just as he was going to start his training routine the phone rang again. Feeling a little annoyed Basilis took the phone call without seeing the caller. ¡°Who i-.¡± ¡°HARD DRINKER THAT KNOWS ONLY TO USE A HAM-¡± ¡°FUCK OFF!¡± He screamed and hanged the phone, yet one more time. ¡°Fuck! What is wrong with him? I swear if he calls me one more tim-¡± Angered he heard the phone ring another time. ¡°I SWEAR TO ALL 7 HEAV-¡± ¡°Dad?¡± Asked the caller in a confused tone. ¡°-ens? Bask?¡± Said Basilis with a confused tone. ¡°What was that all about?¡± Answered Bask. ¡°... Sorry, your uncle Alexander was bugging me.¡± He said embarrassed. ¡°Eeeh, he is not my uncle.¡± ¡°Well, he is my martial brother!¡± He declared. ¡°Ok ok, so dad, about this call.¡± ¡°Always going directly to the point, I guess he really is our son.¡± He thought with a smile on his face. ¡°Do you still know to forge swords, blades and stuff?¡± ¡°Uh? Well it''s been almost a year since I forged something.¡± He said with his eyebrows wrinkled. ¡°Mmm¡ If you go back to forging, how much time would it take you to remember?¡± Inquired Bask. ¡°Ha! Your father may not be a genius like your mother, but he is a genius in his craft!¡± Basilis said proudly. ¡°Well¡ At most in 1 to 2 weeks, I can make stuff that can be considered good.¡± ¡°Yeah, sure. By that time you would be making rank 4 sword¡¡± Mumbled Bask. ¡°Eh? Rank 4 sword? What are you talking about?¡± He asked. ¡°Well, have you heard about the virtual reality game? ¡°Yes, what about it?¡± He said while walking towards his window. ¡°Well, mom was the one who helped to make it.¡± ¡°Wow wow, wait a second. Where are you living right now?¡± ¡°Shining city.¡± Basilis tripped as he heard this. Shinning city can be considered one of the most advanced and safest cities in the world, only the Global Government Alliance city, Global city, can be said to be a better place to live. With a deadpan face he said ¡°Oh, ok.¡± ¡°Well, and I¡¯ve heard something really important.¡± Bask took a full breath before he started talking about the game. Basilis didn''t understand much about it but as time went by, he got some points to take. Game is full immersion and you feel everything, everything. Game is class based, you don''t level up, and your classes give you advantages. It has a medieval fantasy setting, feudal thing with lords and all. ¡°So yeah, the game let you do everything.¡± Ended Bask. ¡°How does it let you do anything? It¡¯s a simple mind game that makes you move things.¡± He inquired. ¡°You don''t understand, I guess now why mother calls you metal brain.¡± Mocked Bask. ¡°Hey! Respect your father!¡± He demanded. ¡°Yes sir!¡± ¡°Don''t mock your father, you unfilial son.¡± He said. ¡°Full immersion dad. You can do anything and feel it. Rules of nature follow the natural course but with a spice in it, magic¡ Don''t you remember when you used to tell me when I was a kid: ¡°Well boyo, if there was magic in this world, I would be the best weapons and armors forger there is.¡±... I was really captivated by your pride in those days.¡± ¡°Yeah, what about it?¡± He said with a prideful and embarrassed tone. ¡°Mom made it possible. You can make weapons and armors just as epic and novels.¡± ¡°Well, this must be a prank, Milenia making a game? That is simply not in the natural order of things.¡± He scoffed while looking at the dawning sun. ¡°Ok ok, so what, you want me to make weapons for you?¡± ¡°Well, yes¡ But I want to play with you.¡± ¡°Well, if I get to enter the game, I will play with you.¡± He thought. ¡°Don''t know how though.¡± ¡°I asked mom to give you one.¡± ¡°Haha, ok ok, I will wait for the game.¡± He laughed while going back to his training stand. ¡°... You don¡¯t believe me, don''t you? ¡°Of course, I do, you are my son.¡± Basilis Thought. ¡°Just think you have exaggerated most of the game.¡± ¡°Huuu¡ I will kick the shit out of you when we enter the game.¡± ¡°Yeah right, remember I practice a lot about weapons boyo, went one on one with champion of many disciplines!¡± He scoffed. ¡°You¡¯ll see." Said Bask with a determined tone." Ah right. Don¡¯t know if I am supposed to tell you this, but I don¡¯t care. Mom is going to play too." "Yeah sure." "Good thing, tell her I am so excited to play." He said. *Two hours later* "SEE HER AGAIN!" A new Breath online Chapter 3 - Expectant breath Expectant Breath *Ping, ping, ping* The sound of a bar code reader could be heard in a monotonous manner. People were buying a lot of food lately. Markets were more than happy to sell so much. Seeing so much people buying all that food and mostly canned food made you wonder if a storm was coming. And it¡¯s half right, it''s a storm, but a digital one. With the news of Full Immersion Virtual Reality, FIVRa for short, there was a global ¡°catastrophe¡±. People were so expectant for the game, that virtually everyone who could afford it, would play it. And those who could not, will take loans. The volume of people wanting to play the game was so big that the GGA had to make policies regarding playing time and work occupation. They clearly didn''t want police officers to not enforce the law by playing a game that they made themselves. People could not play for more than 8 hours a day. People were raged with such a stupid regulation saying that 8 hours was to short but when the answer of GGA was release, people were flabbergasted. ANBO had a time dilation technology, meaning 8 hours in ANBO was 24 hours inside the game. There we other policies such as to play the game you need to be clean of major crimes such as murder and the like but they did say that people that wanted to rehab can go to their nearest GGA council to find a way for them to enter. ANBO is for everyone to have fun. They didn''t disclose anything about how though. ¡°March 18, 2 weeks to go¡±, said an enthusiastic young man by Basilis¡¯ side. ¡°Yesterday my POD reached home, thing looks so alien¡ I guess this will change modern society fashion a bit, every home will have one!¡±. ¡°Fashion, uh?¡±, thought Basilis and then said: ¡°It does look alien enough¡±. Surprised, the young man yelled. ¡°Eh!? You have one!?¡±. Every worker in the market heard the yell and went to the counter. ¡°Wow! How do you have one!? Can I take a look!?¡±. ¡°What color do you have, is it white, blue, yellow?¡±. ¡°Does it plug to the electricity?¡±. ¡°Do..?¡±. ¡°Where¡?¡±. ¡°Fuck! Why did I have to say that!?¡±, thought Basilis with a troubled face.If you come across this story on Amazon, it''s taken without permission from the author. Report it. *2 Days ago* A troubled face could be seen in the door of room A147. ¡°So you are Basilis¡±, said a man in a suit. ¡°Yes, I am. Who are you?¡±, said Basilis while seeing that behind the man there were another 5 guys in suits and some kind of big box. ¡°I am Ramir. Bonjour monsieur Basilis¡±, said Ramir with a respectful tone as he made a small bow. ¡°We are here to deliver a POD for ANBO¡±. ¡°Eh? I never ordered one¡±, Basilis thought. ¡°Are they trying to frame me or something?¡±. ¡°It¡¯s from the Prism Tech company, we¡¯ve been ordered by Madame Milenia to deliver this POD¡±. ¡°What? Let me call her¡±, said Basilis as he took his phone and made the call. ¡°Give me a minute¡±. ¡°Well, can you at least let us enter this POD?¡±. ¡°No¡±, answered Basilis as he heard the phone call ringing. ¡°Hello Basilis¡±, a sweet voice went through the phone call. ¡°Milenia, what is with this POD?¡±, he said while seeing the big box at his door. ¡°Well, Bask wanted to play with you and I am lending you one¡±, she answered with some rustle in the back, seemed like paper rubbing with each other. ¡°Well you knew I was going to call you, otherwise how would you take the call¡±, he said. ¡°You know me well enough. What made you think that I was going to take it?¡± ¡°Ah, don''t worry, you can pay me in quotas¡±. Basilis saw the big box at his door aggain. He knew this was a trap but he felt that Bask must have nagged Milenia for a while for this ¡°What a brave chap¡± he thought then he remembered that It has been a while since last time he saw him. He sighted at the thought. ¡°So, how will I pay you? I know you know I don¡¯t have that kind of money and you sure for hell know I won¡¯t take a loan.¡± ¡°Well, I¡¯ll give you a hint¡±, Milenia said. ¡°I don¡¯t know if you have seen all the information for ANBO, but the money you gain in ANBO can be used to trade in for money in real life¡±. ¡°And what about it?¡±, he said. *Bang* A strike of a bundle of paper on a deck could be heard ¡°Ugh, you metal head! You can sell what you make for money!¡±, she said with a fed up tone and angry tone. ¡°Yeah but I don''t think I will make much money with it¡±, he said. ¡°Oh for the love of¡! Of course you will make a lot of money. Don¡¯t sell yourself short¡¡±,said Milenia with a sad tone, as if regretting something. ¡°Sell myself short? Does she still feel guilty¡?¡±, Basilis went silent¡ not knowing what to say he saw the Ramir and signaled him to enter. ¡°... Just take the POD, Bask really wants to play with you¡±, she said. ¡°Right¡ Bask¡±, he said as he remembered that Bask told him something. ¡°Is she really going to play?¡± ¡°He-¡±. ¡°Goodbye, work call¡±, she hastily said as she hung up the phone. ¡°-y¡±. A dumbfounded expression could be seen from his face. Basilis told the delivery men to put the POD where it¡¯s needed. A time passed before everything was prepared. ¡°A black cube¡ who designed this?¡±. ¡°Yours is special, designed from Milenia herself¡±, answered Ramir proudly. ¡°So that¡¯s why it looks so alien, pretty normal of her¡¡±. Ramir had a troubled smile since he thought that this man might be the only man on earth who can think of Milenia like that. ¡°Well Mr. Basilis, we¡¯ve done everything you need to play ANBO. If you have any kind of problem, the POD will give an automatic emergency call to Prism Tech branch office in this city¡±. ¡°Yes, thanks for everything¡±, said Basilis as he looked at the alien like cube. ¡°If you see Milenia, tell her I say thanks¡±. ¡°Yes sir¡±, answered Ramir as he left with the other 5 suit guys. ¡°Uh¡ Well, this is handy. Really need to get into this game¡±, thought Basilis. ¡°Mmm, I will retire from my job, have enough money for around a year since most of what I earned was to save. ¡°And if I¡¯m going to get into this game¡ I need help¡±, he said as he took his phone and dialed a number. ¡°Brother, want to play a game?¡±. A new Breath online Chapter 4 - Held breath Basilis was walking the streets in a determined way. He seemed to notice that there were less people in the streets nowadays, even less cars and of course he knew the reason for that. In only 2 days, the world will change. Regardless of his thoughts, he directed himself to the market he is currently employed with an envelope in his hands. When he opened the door, he saw that only ? of the staff remained. Greeting his co-workers, he went to the manager office. He knocked the door thrice. ¡°Who is it?¡± he heard. ¡°Basilis¡±, he answered. ¡°Come in¡±. As he opened the door, he could see the haggard face of the manager. He seemed to have become older in these days. When the manager saw the envelope in Basilis hand, he knew what he came for. While sighting he said ¡°not you too¡±, he then started to scramble in his computer for who knows what. ¡°You must be a good manager for people to still work here¡±. Mocked Basilis as he sat down. The manager frowned but he still continued to do what he was doing. The room seemed more dirty than usual, strangely, even though Basilis saw the manager with his haggard expression, he could see a tinge of excitement. With an energetic whistle he said ¡°So you too, don''t hide it from me¡±. That comment startled the manager but he kept on working. ¡°Of course, you can see the impact everywhere¡ it''s going to be a new era¡±, the manager said. ¡°Well, that¡¯s true¡±. Basilis though as he took his envelope and extracted what was inside of it. It was a resignation letter. ¡°Here¡±. The manager took the letter, reading everything he made a confused face. But still, the manager though he had seeing more weird things before. ¡°So you have worked for 3 years, 1 month and 3 days. Your paycheck will be sent to your General Account¡±. ¡°Good, good,¡± said Basilis¡±. So, what do you want to do in ANBO?¡± as he leisurely saw through the opened door and saw the bustling activities in the market. ¡°I will be a merchant¡±. He heard ¡°Now that¡¯s new¡± surprised he said ¡°Wow, want to make a market in a medieval age? Didn''t think that.¡± ¡°Medieval with magic, thinking of learning some if not all the utilities spells¡±. He heard as the manager started to work with a serious face ¡°Even if there are no magical utilities, I would pay some people to make them, everything is told to be possible in ANBO¡±. Excitement could be heard from in these words. ¡°But you, a blacksmith? Though that with 3D printing technology and industrialization and all that, even the practice of it were but history classes¡±. Incredulity and doubt was all that Basilis could hear ¡°uh, it''s been long since someone has given me that look¡±. ¡°Well, if I get to make some good armors or weapons I will call you to sell them¡±. When he said that, the manager stopped doing whatever he was doing. ¡°You may be one of the only people with pre-game experience in blacksmith¡ Yeah, that might work¡±. ¡°Pre-game experience? Sound like a new era thing¡±. He thought. ¡°Well, I have to leave, need to make more preparations¡±. ¡°Don''t know thought if you can only play for 8 hours a day, why renounce?¡±. Asked the manager. Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences. ¡°I just want to relax for a while, and manager, this 8 hours are Global City oriented, meaning that they will synchro with day time here, while in Global city its night time¡±. The manager was thought full for 5 seconds, then a strike of fear started to seep into his face. Basilis knew that the man knew what it meant, so he left after saying his goodbyes to everyone in the market and went straight to his house. When Basilis reached home, he thought ¡°So, it''s time to do the final touches¡±, mysteriously Basilis took an old box from his closet and opened it, an old fashioned computer device was in it, a laptop. He plugged the laptop to a power source and turned it on. A sense of victory plastered his face as he thought ¡°And she told me I couldn''t use a computer device! Ha!¡±. If another person saw this scene, they would find it pretty comical, a burly man with a small black computer, clumsily typing key by key. It took him 3 times more than it was supposed to do what he wanted, but he still thought that he was pretty fast, compared to the past. ¡°ANBO official page¡± he typed in his search bar, and searched for all the information he could on the web. Forums related to ANBO didn''t have much more information than what he knew. He thought that he even knew a little bit more thanks to his talk with Bask. He tried to register but the page said that accounts will be made at the moment of the first log in. Not knowing where to get more information he called a friend ¡°Oscar, did you get any kind of information?¡±. He asked while closing his laptop. ¡°Well, I got pretty important news and really technical ones¡¡± Basilis concentrated on the phone call, saw that it was 8:34 pm ¡°Damn, skipped training time, may need to change schedule¡± He thought. ¡°The important news is that what we call ¡¯magic¡¯ exist, but in an interesting way. There is no thing as Mana of the old times, there is Pneuma.¡± ¡°Pneuma? Like the breath?¡±. He asked. ¡°Oh! I am surprised you know that Basilis¡±. Oscar answered. ¡°Well, Pneuma is a word used in my family inheritance, a lot.¡±. ¡°Mmm¡ Maybe¡ Forget it. This news made everyone question the type of medieval setting, if it was going to be oriental or occidental, guess which one is it¡±. ¡°I guess it''s a mix of both, just like Global City¡±. Basilis closed his computer and started to move his equipment to workout. ¡°... Yes, it''s exactly like you say. Did you make this game perhaps?¡±. Mocked Oscar. ¡°Well, now there are some niche things that it''s better to see them when the game starts. But I just send you a file with the explanation of status of the game. It''s really different, really different¡ See you in the game, and tell Alexander to not die, penalties are big¡±. ¡°Ha! I guess I will tell Letonia first¡±. ¡°Well, goodbye, need to prepare too¡±. ¡°Goodbye¡±. Basilis hang up and then started to do his workout schedule. Around 30 minutes later, he saw the file that Oscar gave him. ¡°Uh? Aspects? What the fuck?¡±. There was a lot of information in the file, like you have something called aspects, pools, abilities, etc. ¡°Wow, this is really complicated¡±. He started to read from the beginning. ¡°Body, Mind, Soul, Aspect of the self. Strength and Vitality potency and pool of the body? What does that mean?¡±. Basilis kept on reading and understood a little of what it meant. He knew that increasing something increased something else, he guessed that increasing his body aspect increased his strength and vitality by a smaller value. He thought this was too complicated but kept on thinking, trying to find what is better for him. He stopped reading the documents and grabbed the Chryso Family inheritance. ¡°If this game is so real, I guess that the theory could help me a bit¡±. He started to read. ¡°Sky, human, earth¡¡± ¡°Right, this book is pretty novel-like¡±. ¡°... If you want to learn true forging, you need to connect your body, mind and soul with you hammer.¡±. ¡°Eh? What? I know it¡¯s been years since last time I read this, but¡ why is it so alike?¡±. Doubt filled Basilis, but he kept on reading, immersed by the knowledge he had long forgotten. He fell into a trance. Mumbling around for a while, he stopped reading. The confusion he had in his face disappeared. He looked at the black box in the room and held his breath. ¡°A new breath¡ eh?¡± A new Breath online Chapter 5 - Fresh breath A fresh breath A mechanical sound of a door closing was the last thing Basilis heard before all turned black. A sense of lightness shrouded his body as he saw everything change color. He saw himself flying. [Welcome to A new breath Online] said a mechanical sound. [First time login requires the creation of your account] [Please wait a moment to create your account] ¡®Uh, this is interesting¡¯ Thought basilis while floating in what seemed a white space, weirdly everything was white, but not blinding. [Welcome Basilis Chryso, please set the name of your account] ¡®Right, let''s see¡¯ he thought ¡°Set the name of my account as WorldSmith please¡± [Account name set as WorldSmith, please confirm name] ¡°Confirm name¡± [Account name confirmed as WorldSmith, now on to character creation, please take into account that you can only possess one character at the time. Would you like an explanation of the status of your character?] Basilis nodded then concentrated, for what Oscar information told him about this game, is that it''s too complicated. [Time to introduce you to the status of ANBO. ANBO takes into account all cultures and all most of old games concepts, you can build your character how you want as everyone has the same start.] ¡®Just not the same grow¡¯ Basilis mocked in his mind. The game was really about resource management. As simple as one could tell, if you don''t manage in a efficient way you will have a hard time. [ANBO starts with the self. The self is you, the user. It''s the root of all you are and do, your essence.] a black dot appeared in front of Basilis. [Then there are the aspects, the general parts of what you are, how strong you are physically, mentally or spiritually. The body, the mind and the soul.] The black dot was surrounded by 3 hexagons, one red, one yellow and one blue like a hive. [For each of these aspects there are the status of Power, Storage and 2 related Abilities. The bigger their respective aspect is the bigger they are and can be.] Each hexagon was then concatenated with other hexagons to make the hive even bigger, like a second circle of hexagon circulated the first circle.[Power is how much you can express your aspect, Storage is how much you can use your aspect and Abilities are the result that comes from the mixing of 2 aspects.] [The power and storage of the body, mind and soul are: Strength, Vitality, Intelligence, Focus, Will and Spirit respectively] Each of the hexagons that touch only 1 aspect hexagon became of the same color of the respective aspect, just more white. [The abilities that appear when 2 aspects touch the same hexagon are: Endurance when body and soul touch, Dexterity when mind and body touch and Wit when Soul and Mind touch.] The the last three hexagons that touched 2 aspect became orange where red and yellow touched, purple when red and blue touched and green when yellow and green touched. [Even more so there are what is called Strain, Gauge, Value and Talent.] A third circle of hexagon circled the second circle. [Strain represents how much your power can hold, Gauge how much activities you can do continuously related to the respective aspect, Value how much is you storage worth and talent how good you represent your ability. These status cannot be assigned with points when in character creation.] [The strain related to the Body, Mind and Soul are: Encumbrance, Memory and Resilience. The Gauge related to Body, Mind and Soul are: Stamina, Stress and Eupnea. The Values related to the Body, Mind and Soul are: Health, Sanity and Pneuma. The talents related to Endurance are Defence and Resistance. The talents related to Dexterity are Agility and Sense. The talents related to Wit are Control and aptitude.] The 15 hexagons that appeared took the color of their respective status. ¡°Oh wow, Bask will really stay reading all this things all day, lets just go with it¡± Said Basilis as he scratched his neck. [First Select your 3 Aspects] The three central hexagon started to shine [You have a total of 9 points to use, aspects can''t be lower than 3 when is character creation. For better explanation of each aspect press the desired aspect] A pop up appeared in front of Basilis.

Basilis put the same number of points in all his aspects, his reason was a lead from his family teaching. ¡®Perfection is balance, it is impossible for a perfectly balanced body to exist, but the pursuit of balance is what makes it possible the highest mastery of forging¡¯ [Select the Storage, Power and Ability of each aspect]A second pop-up appeared at the right of the first one. ¡°Aaaaaaaarg! This is going to take a while!¡± cried basilis as he pressed all status. Time passed by while basilis put made his character. ¡°OK OK, let''s go with this¡ after all i am going to be a smith, not some front-liner adventurer, I don''t need witt nor soul, balance of the aspects is more than enough, and some will, people should always have a high will¡± Scoffed Basilis, he didn''t like the idea of using a spellcaster at all. It took him a while to complete it, but he decided to go with high points into body.

¡°ok, ok¡ uh?¡± After looking at his points he saw a value between parenthesis. ¡°Umm, you, AI thing. What are these numbers in parenthesis?¡± [This is the result value that is the same as your status plus your aspect value bonus] ¡°Aspect value bonus? How do you calculate it?¡± [This information is classified] ¡°... Well, ok. I have to go with this.¡± Before he confirmed status he saw that his strength was (6<-7). Wondering why it was like that he asked ¡°AI, why is my strength like that? Six and arrow then a seven?¡± [You effective strength cannot be higher than you maximum related aspect] ¡°Oh, ok, let me change that point of strength into something else¡ here¡± Basilis quickly changed his strength point into will, he really liked the word and all. He saw how his effective strength became a simple 6 and his will became a 6 also. ¡°Right, AI thing, what about Strain, Gauge, Value and Talent ... Mmm, how are they affected?¡± [Information classified] ¡°As expected¡± [Confirm status] Basilis nodded, then table with lots of names appeared. [Please select your race] ¡°uhh¡ this was not in the information i got¡¡± He saw lots of races names, human, elf, dwarf, beast man with all their counterparts, even centaurs were there. Doubt surfaced Basilis thoughts ¡°Ai thing, why are you making one select the race after the status selection?¡± [It was desired this way so the user won''t enclose his creativity when selecting his status points, by selecting status prior to the race it was found that users would select their playstyle before even daring to be the most efficient one could be.] ¡°But wont races affect the status points?¡± [No, ANBO was made so races affected character growth more than character status points] ¡°Mmm, well, can you filter all the races that give a balanced growth?¡± [Growth information is classified] ¡°Let me rephrase¡ can you filter races that have all-rounded skills?¡± A table containing only 1 name. 1-Human ¡°... Well what was i expecting¡± Basilis selected human as his race, the another table appeared. ¡®This one must be the class related table¡¯ he thought. [Please select your class]
  1. Fighter
  2. Crafter
  3. Chanter
  4. Ranger
¡°Filter classes with forging related classes¡±
  1. Crafter
¡°.... Again, what was i expecting? Ai thing, give me a explanation of classes¡± [All users in ANBO possess something known as class. Class are what the player can normally do. Fighter uses weapons to fight, Crafters crafts objects and chanters evoke breath to chant spells. This represent the desired path of the user. Also, when one reaches circle V of a class, one can select another class to possess.] ¡°Uh? Does that mean that one can technically possess all classes?¡± [Not necessarily. Users in ANBO also possess something called potential, all users start with 9 potential points. How one desires the use of these points determine the future of the user.] ¡°What if one desired to get a potential point back?¡± [Information classified] ¡°... i am really expecting to much¡± He said as he selected his class. Another table appeared. [Please select your ingame name] He thought of a name, then he remembered the phrase ¡°Gold and Glory¡± from his family, good at forging he was, but his naming sense was bad. With some word tricks and language translation he said his ingame and confirmed. ¡°Auro Doxa¡± [Character creation completed, now select where you want to spawn] A map appeared in front of basilis. ¡°...¡± ¡°...¡± ¡°...¡± ¡°WHY DOES IT TAKE DAMN MUCH TO MAKE A SINGLE CHARACTER?!?!?¡± [Answer not in the database] ¡°OH FUCK OFF!¡± Basilis hastily selected a dot on the map near to some woods. ¡°AND I ACCEPT!¡± [Character generation completed] [Please enjoy A New Breath Online] [Have a fresh breath] Everything went white. A New Breath Online Chapter 6 - Troubled Breath A Troubled Breath With a flash of light Basilis, no, Auro appeared in the small outskirt town he selected. Winds blew strong for 2 mountains where to his left and right. Not many shabby wood houses could be seen at first sight. But the color green did, bright green grass permeated everything that was not road nor house, trees big enough for wood work could be seen at far. A blue sky like never he has seen before appeared before Auro. A sky so clean that seemed to reflect his peace of mind. Grassy smell entered his nose while Auro took a deep, deep breath. ¡°Fuaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Just like my childhood home!¡± Behind Auro was a white fountain with clean water. He got near it as he remembered something Oscar told him about the game the proceeded to touch the fountain with his hand. [Would you like to inscribe this fountain as your spawn point? Y/N] ¡°Yes, please¡± [Grey Wood Fountain saved as spawn point] Spawn points, places where one revives after dying, without a spawn point players would lose everything they own, since they would be revived only in soul, not body, in a completely random spawn place. ¡®Now, let''s get to know this place¡¯ Oscar gave him a quick guide on what to do in the beginning of the game, it went like this:
  1. Inscribe Spawn Point
  2. Get to know the town or city you selected
  3. Make smithins stuff
  4. ???
  5. Profit
It was simple and straightforward, just how Auro likes things. He then noticed he was equipped with some basic necessities, a pair of shoes, trousers, normal white t-shirt and a tool belt. When he opened the tool belt a pop-up suddenly appeared. [Player Help: Crafter Basic Toolbelt is currently linked to crafters main trait, schrodinger''s pocket. ¡®Uh, what is this?¡¯ When Auro touched the Basic tool kit boon a present box nothing happened. Another pop-up appeared. Auro frowned, as he was getting really tired of pop-ups. [Player Help: To take items out of the schrodinger¡¯s pocket player need to put his hand into the linked equipment and drag out the desired object.]Did you know this text is from a different site? Read the official version to support the creator. ¡®Uh, cool, just like Dororo Cat¡¯ He the dragged a box out of his pocket. It looked like a gift wrapped package. ¡®So¡ how do i open this?¡¯ He tried for a moment to open the boon, but it was sealed tight and the ribbon was clearly harder than steel. So he decided to leave that to another moment and put the box inside the pocket. He then noticed that he was getting some attention, people were looking at him with odd smiley faces, a big tall muscled man trying to open a pink and yellow gift. ¡®This damn game¡¯ Though auro as he left the pond with his ears red. Afterwards Auro started to aimlessly walk around the small town, not much scouting the town would be needed since it was a small one. While walking he saw an old lady with a basket full of weeds and fruits kind of struggling with it. ¡°Hello there, can i help you with that?¡± Auro asked. The old lady looked at him for a moment then said ¡°Why thank you for your help¡± with a kind smile. ¡°Here¡± Auro then grabbed the simple looking basket, and he was surprised by the heavy basket the old lady was carrying with just a troubled look on her face. ¡°My name is Medellyn. Lets go, i will walk you to my house and give you some bread i cooked this morning¡± She the moved towards her home, it seemed to be one of the houses he saw when he appeared, near the fountain. ¡®uh, why is she so slow?¡¯ Auro though when he started to follow her. [Weight is at 300%, player is encumbered(200%)] ¡°Eh?¡± [Player Help: When weight goes over the limit encumbrance player gets the status ¡°Encumbered¡±. Encumbered status increases the stamina consumption of the action performed equal to the % over the action performed] [Stamina: 97/100] ¡®What?¡¯ Auro saw his stamina bar slowly going down as he walked. ¡®how much does this weight?¡¯. Weirdly, when he reached the old granny and started following her in her peace the stamina bar didn''t move at all. It stayed 97/100. In the road towards Medellyn house not much could be seen, a group of childs running to where they came from, a big house with two floors, some rice fields, even a young man walking a cow. ¡°You saw the two stories house? That¡¯s the elder house, you should go there after helping me.¡± Said Medellyn while pointing to a big grey wood house. ¡°Umm, yes i should... But why?¡± Asked Auro. ¡°Why What?¡± Replied Medellyn. ¡°Why would you say that?¡± Said Auro this time with a frown on his face. ¡°Well, well, well, get that frown out of your face bulky fella, your kind is kind of new here so i guess you know nothing of this world and all¡± Said Medellyn reproaching his frown. ¡°Eh? You know who i am?¡± Replied Auro surpised. ¡°Oh of course not deary, i don''t. You should give me your name though¡± ¡°My name is Ba- Auro Doxa¡± Said Auroflustered by almost saying his real name. He remembered the warnings Oscar told him about the penalties for real-world information leakage, they were kinda hard as stated by the guy. ¡°Ooooh, nice name you have there Auro.¡± Said Medellyn as he reached an old cottage ¡°Well, don''t be surprised but we know of your kind, it was whispered by the breath of the world¡± ¡®Mmm, this is really interesting, making players look like a natural phenomenon, the GGG made a good decision there¡¯ Though basilis as he stopped at the front of the old cottage. ¡°The breath of the world said that one day his blessed would be coming to the world. People that come from a world really different from ours in some ways, and really alike in others. And here we are, leave the basket here¡± Explained the old woman. The temperature felt as it suddenly dropped the moment Medellyn stared at Auros eyes after he dropped the basket. ¡°The breath of the world also said something really interesting¡± ¡°The world will change by your kind¡± ¡°The children of the breath you will be called¡± ¡°The inevitable as boon or blight¡± ¡°For allies or enemies we can and will be¡± [Achievement unlocked!] [Coming of the child''s recorded] A New Breath Online Chapter 7 ¡®Achievement? What is this?¡¯ Though Auro. As if reading his though another pop-up appeared in front of him. [You have recorded your first achievement! Unlike older games A New Breath Online does not possess the concept of experience to level up, no, here we evaluate what you do and record what are considered as achievement. Achievements are required to upgrade your class and affect your character progression.] Frowning Auro remembered he was talking to Medellyn, realization dawned upon him when she was looking at him weirdly, guessing the enemy part and all. ¡°Well, i see where its coming from¡ Out world was ridden with wars before¡¡± Auro said ¡°... things got straight¡± ¡®Not talking about the real world is going to be hard, reaaaally hard¡¯ Though Auro ¡°But don''t worry ¡®bout me, i am just a friendly old man¡± Said Auro while smiling. Kindness came back to Medellyns face. ¡°Oh for breaths sake, of course i wouldn¡¯t worry about you, you look like you would even hurt a Flea!¡± Said Medellyn ¡°Now now, go to the mayor¡¯s building, you need to get things straight with him before doing anything here¡± ¡°And my bread?¡± Asked Auro ¡°Right right, though you forgot about that¡± Said Medellyn as she went inside her house. After a few seconds she came back with a big round loaf of bread. ¡°Here, be sure to eat frequently, I don''t want to see you hungry, you hear me!¡± Said Medellyn with a demanding tone as she gave him the bread. [Achievement Unlocked!] [Kindness for the Ancestors recorded] ¡®Uh, so good actions can be considered achievements¡¯ Though Auro. ¡°Well, see you another day, i will go to the Mayor''s building. Just one last thing¡± Said Auro. ¡°What can i help you with?¡± Asked Medellyn. ¡°Is there a forge here?¡± *A moment later at the Mayor''s house* ¡°So you are a Child of the breath?¡± Asked the Mayor¡¯s receptionist, Clara, with narrowed eyes while looking at Auro. ¡°Yes, feel that makes me a little famous around here¡± Said Auro. ¡°Or infamous¡± Answered Clara. ¡°I need evidence you are what you say, you could be some kind of really good thief or actor trying to get something out of the Mayor Towlye.¡± ¡°Mmm¡¡± Though auro, remembering he had something people around here didn''t have. ¡°Does this count?¡± Taking the big round bitten bread loaf from his special pocket.Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation. ¡°Medellyns Bread? Not so much¡± Said Clara. ¡°No no, this¡± Said Auro as he put the Bread in and out of the impossibly smaller pocket that should not contain such a big loaf of bread. ¡°So you area Crafter, interesting¡± Said Clara. ¡°How do you know i am a Crafter from that?¡± Asked Auro. ¡°People with bigger responsibilities than us received more information regarding your kind, your special pocket is a normal characteristic of Crafters¡± Said Clara. ¡®Wow, this is pretty interesting, the upper society has more information regarding us¡¡¯ Though Auro while taking a bite. ¡°Well, can i met the Mayor?¡± Asked Auro. ¡°Yes, please wait a moment¡± Said Clara. She then left her desk and headed upstairs. While waiting basilis saw the building, it was built with a very smooth grey wood, soft to touch but with a good tensile strength. ¡®Some really good spears or bows can be made from this kind of wood, i guess i will need to dust off some of my carpentry skills in this game.. Welcher would love this.¡¯ Though Auro while savouring the soft texture of the wood. ¡®Now that i remember i need to call that scrub, last time he was using his carpentry skill making dolls for the wealthy.¡¯Though Auro, manual skills were something the wealthy prefered in their decorations and hobbies, since machine produced details always looked perfect, people easily get bored of them. ¡®He always liked animated stories or anime as he calls it, maybe he is already playing for all i care¡¯ While he was reminiscing his thoughts were interrupted by a cry outside. Auro bolted outside. *A minutes ago* A girl was happily playing with her friend when by mistake she ran over a group of people, she didn''t notice they looked like the scary kind until she apologized and started to move away. ¡°How dares it crash with me? You filthy @#$%¡± Said the lanky man that the girl crashed with as he was dustin off his clean robes. ¡°Eh? Warning? For saying that? Ha! I guess i will have to talk with my dad to see what they can do against me!¡± ¡°Now¡ you, take care of this. I got in trouble in this @#$% because of it and i will not support such humiliation from this @#$¡± Said the Lanky man to a companion of his. The girl squirmed everytime the gibberish was said, it sounds like when a nail scratched on a chalkboard. She didn''t notice as she was leaving that the companions the robed man talked to got near her and grabbed her by the wrist. ¡°Hey, let me go.¡± She said scared while struggling to escape from the man. ¡°Shit, this #$%^ is really @#$%#$%^.¡± The man didn''t let go and pulled really hard from her. ¡°Hey let her go!¡± Cried the friends of the girl. The man took the sword out of his sword belt and the girl screamed. ¡°Sorry kid, if i don''t do this i will lose my job.¡± Just before the man cut her arm a Big Loaf of bread hit the armored man head. ¡°Who the fuck did that?!¡± Yelled the armored man as he threw the girl into the ground and looked around. ¡°Off all the things you decided to be, you decided to be a cunt?¡± Said Auro as he walked in between the girl and the armored man. ¡°Who are you to judge me, i need the money!¡± Said the armored man. ¡°Laslow, i need some backup, some goody two shoes decided to help this¡ *spit* ¡ @#$¡±. Another armored man came near the first one ¡°Who is it? This old man? Maybe we have to teach him a lesson.¡± Both men armed themselves and prepared for a fight and looked at Auro with bloodlust. ¡®Ho Ho. So this is my first fight, not against a monster, but against players.¡¯ Auro though as he changed his form into a relaxed boxing stance. ¡®Let¡¯s see if i haven''t rusted over the years. All the brawling and boxing i did when i was a teenager should work with these amateurs¡¯
