《Blood and Honor: Deathwalker》
Chapter 1- A New World and a New Start
Character Creation...
Alex opened his eyes and looked around, he was standing in a small glade with trees all around him. The only thing of note was a small fire with two logs set up as seats around it and a cloaked figure sitting there. Alex looked up and saw an unending amount of stars above him, far more then he had ever seen at his family''s estate or in Chicago. Too many lights drowned out humanity''s ability to see what lay above.
"Come, lad, come here and sit down so we can talk." the cloaked figure stated and gestured towards Alex to come closer. He studied the man and his surroundings one more time and did as invited.
"Thank you for the invitation," Alex told him as he sat down and the man smiled and nodded.
The old man unfocused and Alex could see he was manipulating some interface, "So this is the first time you have been to Ithea, have you been to other worlds like this before?"
"Yes, I have played other games before, but I have never tried this one before. I have been to busy with school and life." Alex responded and the older man frowned.
"Lad, this will be your world, so do not consider it a game. This will be your world and life, so take this seriously.'' the old man chastised him. ''Now first off you have to decide your Race. There are many choices that you can choose from, do you have any idea what Race you want to choose?" the old man asked.
Alex frowned and looked away and quietly responded, "Drow Sir." The old man snickered and caused Alex to look at him.
"You are no more a Drow then I am a Dragon lad. Now what race do you want to be." the old man prodded.
His parents plan called for them to become Drow and join up there, but the old man was right, he did not want to be a Drow. "Human, I want to be Human."
The old man smiled, "Now that is an honest answer, follow the torches to the Cave of Creation to create your new Avatar. Once you are done, come back here lad and we will finish up." Alex frowned and was going to ask what the old man meant about torches but when he looked around, the clearing had changed and a new path led off into the nearby forest and it was lined with torches. Alex looked back at the old man who was smiling and gesturing him to go. Alex just shook his head and quickly traveled the path that the old man had indicated.
Ten minutes later Alex reentered the small clearing and he noticed immediately that the torches lining the former path doused and disappeared as he passed them. Magic he thought as he sat down opposite of the old man again. "Ahh, better.'' the old man stated as he looked at him. Alex was once again inhabiting his own body, just under six feet tall, with no bulky muscles, he was a runner and built for speed. Blond hair, bright blue eyes, a light dusting of facial hair his family hated, even the scar that ran across his cheek was there, a gift from his father. ''Now being Human you have a choice to which country to start from. Take a moment and make a decision."

Human Starting Locations...
Nation: Kingdom of Rolling Sands
Description: This nation once cursed by the God Aphophus and was buried under the desert sands of the Great Desert of Arakon. It has recently risen once again and is expanding both westwards and to the south into the Dark Lands. Beware this kingdom faces war with the Empire of Night due to expansion southwards and could face war in the coming days.
Nation: Kingdom of Arang''more
Description: This nation is almost as old as humanity is, it has been destroyed more than once, but Humanity has reclaimed it more than once. Currently, Arang''more is embroiled in a civil war, portions of the nation''s southern lords have broken away from the King and Kingdom. Strife and difficulty are rampant throughout this once peaceful nation.
"Thank you for asking, both choices have their own difficulties and advantages. The Rolling Sands is a nation reborn and faces the troubles of a new country. Arang''more is far more established but its civil war is turning bloody. The choice is your lad." the old man responded.
Alex smiled wryly at him, "Not really helping me." Alex pointed out and the old man smiled and shrugged. Joining a new kingdom would provide fewer services to the Immortals, but it might be easier to hide out from his family.
The more developed kingdom would offer more services, but it would also provide more eyes and ears..."Arang''more sir." Alex told him and the old man smiled and nodded.
"Very well, do you have any idea what class you want? Based on what I can see, I would recommend Rogue, there is no class better suited for hiding, running, and blending in. They choose their battles and are best suited for surprise attacks with prepared battlefields.'' the old man offered and Alex studied the old man who just smiled back. After a moment Alex sighed and nodded his head yes. ''Very well, please confirm all your choices please Alex." A popup appeared in front of him.

Alex tried to smile and thank the old man but everything went black and disappeared.

Alex got up and headed for the door, it was unlocked and outside the room was an empty hallway. Alex couldn''t hear anyone inside but he could hear people yelling and the sounds of wood striking something. Alex quickly made his way to the door and outside. Opening the door revealed a large courtyard with several dozen men and women practicing with various weapons. Other more older men and women were keeping an eye on everything, Alex could see no real organization of the madness then the courtyard was broken up only by the various weapons being used. "NEWBIE!!" Alex heard someone below and he looked at an older man glaring at him.
Alex visibly swallowed and pointed to himself, "YES YOU, FUCKING NEW PEOPLE. GET OVER HERE NEWBIE!!!'' the man bellowed and more then one person was looking and snickering. ''WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU LAUGHING AT!!! TWO LAPS AROUND THE FORTRESS, MOVE!!!" the older man bellowed at the six people that grimaced and took off without question.
Alex flinched at the yelling causing the older man to squint at him, "Relax kid, I won''t really hurt you and I am not mad at you. You are new correct?'' Alex nodded and the older man smiled encouragingly and looked around. ''CORPORAL YOUNG, GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE ON THE DOUBLE. Listen, kid, Corporal Young will get you the basic equipment and get you lined up with someone that can teach you some things. Good luck kid." the man whispered in the Corporals ear then dismissed them both.

Alex dismissed the information as gestured for Alex to follow him. "I am taking you to see the Quartermaster of the fortress, he will get you some basic gear. It won''t be much, but it is far better than nothing." Corporal Young told Alex as the briskly walked deeper into the fortress.
"Thank you for the help," Alex told him and the Corporal nodded his head and glanced back.
"Don''t worry about it. I will also be your instructor for the Basic Skills. I am a Scout myself in the King''s army and I know enough to train you in either Knives or Bow and Arrow. Do you know what Primary Class you are going to pick or if you want to use melee or ranged weapons?" Corporal Young asked and Alex thought it over as they continued to walk. He remembered that this would be a new world and a new experience, that he could be what he wanted and didn''t have to live in the shadow of his family anymore.
"Melee, I need to learn melee weapons and combat," Alex replied and Corporal Young stopped and studied him and nodded.
"I joined the army cause my father was not a good man...they army let me getaway. I understand and you can start over Alex." the Scout told him.
"How do you know my name?" Alex asked as balled up his fists.
Corporal Young chuckled and shook his head. "Look at me and concentrate." Alex nodded his head slowly and did as instructed and a popup appeared in front of him.

Chapter 2- Harsh Lessons
Surface- Shinning Hills Region
Kingdom of Arang''more- Fortress of Stalwart Hill
Alex felt the air explode from his lungs as he landed on his back. "Why are you laying there!! Keep moving. Monsters and people trying to kill you won''t stop because you got the wind knocked out of you." Gregory snapped as he sent a kick towards Alex''s head.
Alex almost didn''t get his head out of the way, but he did and ate a little dirt in return as he rolled away from his sparring partner and to his feet. He immediately half crouched while raising his hands and deflected two follow up blows. "You can''t be just defensive, you have to strike back Alex." Gregory reminded him and Alex nodded as he waited for an opening.
Less then ten seconds later he had it, Alex fired off two quick jabs and a left cross before stepping back. Gregory shook his head and glared at him, "Why did you step back?" the Corporeal asked as he stepped back.
"One, I didn''t know if you left that opening on purpose. Two, I am here to learn, not to beat your ass." Alex responded, never lowering his guard. He had gotten popped in his head more than once lowering his guard over the last hour.
"If you see an opening, take it. You won''t know if its a trap until you have struck, but do not disregard your instincts. Read your opponent''s body. Are they reeling or are they coiled and ready to strike back? Don''t make that mistake twice." Gregory stated and raised his hands and advanced.
An hour later Alex breathed slowly as he made his way closer to his target, shadows were all around him and helped calm him and kept him focused as he neared the target. Once he was in range he exploded in motion and struck three times rapidly, once to the kidney, once in the lung, and finally stabbing his target in the neck before stepping back. "Better. You managed to keep your Stealth active right up to the point of your first attack this time. Do it again." Gregory commented and Alex nodded as he moved back across the room.
Alex took a deep breath and activated the Stealth Skill again, the feeling of coolness and shadows encompassing him as he slowly moved forward through the pillars. He slipped over the strings with bells and broken glass on the ground. This was part of the room and part of the test to get to his target undetected. So far he had only managed to cross the room three times without setting off the bells or stepping on the glass. If he did either, he had to go back to the beginning. He had been at this for over an hour and he had more training to do so he set aside his worries and concentrated on his surroundings.
After Stealth and combat training came the Agility Course. The obstacle course was nearly a couple hundred feet long with dozens of pits, walls, logs, ropes, anything and everything he could think of and he had to cross it all. He had to survive it without injury and every time he ran it, he was directed back to the beginning by whoever was at the end. "Break time.'' Gregory stated and Alex nodded his head as he tried to catch his breath. ''Pull up your current Status, think or say it and it will bring up all your current Buffs and Debuffs." Gregory stated and Alex followed his instructions.
Current Status...
Debuff Tired: Skills will progress 10% Slower (Duration Until you rest for ten minutes at least)
Debuff Hungry: All Primary Stats Decreased by 10% (Duration until you eat some food)
Debuff Thirsty: Regeneration Rates are decreased by 25% (Duration until you drink something)
"I have Tired, Hungry, and Thirsty Debuffs," Alex told the Corporal.
"Well, you have thirty minutes off, get some food in you. The Quartermaster gave you some rations as well as armor and weapons. Eat up." Gregory stated as he followed suit. Alex pulled up his inventory page and pulled a piece of bread, apple, and some jerky from his inventory.
"Where am I supposed to stay at night?" Alex asked in between bites.
"The barracks you appeared in, that is where you will stay while here. Now once we finish training, there are two main Quest Boards within the fortress. One outside the main Keep and the second one is at the gate leading in and out of the fortress walls. Any quests posted to the boards are optional, if there are any mandatory quests, there will be an Area-wide message to report to the nearest military outpost if you want it.'' Gregory explained. ''Now once you start increasing your levels and want to purchase new gear or sell off gear you can visit the quartermaster or any of the shops within the fortress grounds. The quartermaster prices are set, but you can barter usually with the shop owners." Gregory continued to talk as they rested and ate during the break.

Alex dismissed the notification, he had finally read it after completing all his training with Corporal Young. The young Scout had left him to his own devices and he still had several hours before nightfall and the fortress would be shut tight then. Alex quickly checked his gear as he started walking towards the fortress entrance.

Alex dismissed the information as he made his way silently through the forest. Stealth was holding, for now, so he hadn''t been spotted by anything, but each time he dropped out to gather plants, it was an invitation for any nearby beast too attack. So Alex had picked up the sense too scout out any area and kill anything that could be a threat first before gathering any herbs. Three Black-Speckled Mushrooms were too much to pass up though, so Alex slowly made his way around them and the large Oak they were growing at the base of an oak tree.
He then heard snuffling and Alex froze as he saw a boar, he quickly Analyzed it as he kept a tree between him and it.

It was only level two, that was good, it meant more experience and a better chance at loot Alex thought as he watched as the creature walked closer. HisStealthwas still up and his crappy dagger was in hand. Once it was in range he lashed out,FlankingandCritical Hitpopped up and quickly disappeared as an eighth of the Boar''s health disappeared. Alex threw himself forward as the boar squealed and turned as its tusks glowed slightly as it activated its Gore ability but Alex was already out of range. Alex smiled for once as he dodged the pig''s counter-attack before lashing out drawing a bloody line across the boar''s snout.
Alex groaned as he sat back in the tub and manipulated the interface in front of him. Between the quests and the fights in the forest he had acquired four levels today and because he was level five, he had more training to do tomorrow so he could start unlocking key Skills for Rogues. Particularly Lock Picking and Thrown Weapons Skills, once he hit level ten he would be trained Trap Detection and Trap Disarm. However, that was a thought for another day Alex mused as he starting reading through his Character Sheet.

Dexterity would be his main stat no matter what Primary Class he decided to choose, it determined his Physical Damage and helped with coordination. After that came Agility, it helped determine his speed, how fast he moved and how quickly he could attack as well as control at that speed. Alex dumped ten Stat Points into Dexterity, two into Strength to increase both his Stamina and Stamina Regeneration Rate, and the last eight Stat Points went into Agility. As Alex was closing his eyes to relax he heard a chirp in his ear. He had a message waiting for him, Alex brought up his inbox and froze. It was from his father.
Chapter 3- Letters from the Family
Surface- Shinning Hills Region
Kingdom of Arang''more- Fortress of Stalwart Hill
"HEY!! Are you here with me?'' Gregory asked after smacking Alex on the back of the head. ''If you aren''t, you don''t need to be practicing with throwing knives, you can get you or others seriously hurt." the Corporal admonished him.
"Sorry, I have been distracted this morning, it won''t happen again," Alex replied as he closed his eyes and pushed his worries away and concentrated on the target in front of him. With a flick of his wrist, he sent the small dagger speeding towards the target...and the handle hit it off-center.
Gregory snickered, "Try again. Remember concentrate and its all in one motion." he told Alex who nodded and drew another throwing dagger and activated Aim as he stepped forward and released it. This time the point embedded itself in the wood, but it was still off target. Two out of four were not bad, but it was still far from Corporal Young''s expectations and his own. Alex quickly retrieved the four throwing knives before returning to his original position to start all over again.
An hour later he was in the small warehouse again, this time they were not in the darkroom practicing Stealth, or at the Agility Course, they were in another room with several doors and various chests. "Lock picking is an art form, like Stealth it takes finesse, not brute force. It has to be handled carefully and with precision, otherwise, you risk breaking your lock picks. Take your time, feel the locks, don''t just blunder into it and use brute force." Corporal Young advised as Alex worked.
Finally, with a click it opened revealing the empty container within, "Congrats, it only took you about ten minutes. Again, this time do it in nine minutes." He stated as he gestured to the next chest. Alex scrambled over too the nex chest and took a breath as he slid the two Lock Picks into the lock. One of them got caught and Alex slowly withdrew both and looked into the lock itself to get a sense of the new lock and admonished himself for not doing it in the first place before trying it again.
"My father sent me a message. I have not read it yet, but I am pretty sure he will threaten and promise retribution for not toeing the family line." Alex responded as he picked at his food.
"So where are they?" Corporal Young asked.
Alex frowned, "If everyone followed my fathers'' plan, and they always do, my mother, aunt, and sister are with the Drow, my father, uncle, and brother are with the Duergar. I was supposed to go with my mother, but life as a male with the Drow isn''t exactly the best life." Alex told him and the Corporal frowned.
"The Drow and Duergar are dangerous people, they might not be enjoying their time there," Gregory responded causing Alex to snort in amusement.
"Believe me, they are right at home with the scheming and backstabbing. The only reason I became a Rogue was if I needed to run and hide, it gave me the best shot at both." Alex told him and Gregory nodded his head in understanding.
"So I heard from rumors going around, your world is dying and that a bunch of new Immortals is coming here. Is that true?" the Corporal asked in a low voice.
Alex nodded as he remembered the first news reports and mushroom clouds of the nuclear explosions, "Yes our world is dying and it''s our fault. Millions will be coming to this world in an attempt to survive so don''t be surprised if you see more new Immortals coming in the next couple weeks." Alex told him.
"Well once you advance to the point you can unlock your Primary Class, I would recommend you join either an Immortal Guild or if you become a Thief or Assassin, you join either of those Guilds. They will provide you with some protection and cover from your family.'' Gregory recommended. ''Now we are going to practice a few more things and unlock a few more Skills for you, once that is done, you will be free for the rest of the day." Dual Wielding and Pick Pocket Skill training. This should be fun Alex thought as he finished up his food.
Alex quickly finished up his meal and headed towards the nearby barracks, as soon as he got in his room he stripped down and placed his armor into the Wardrobe to clean and repair it. Due to it being Light Armor, the Wardrobe would repair it, if it was Medium or Heavy, you had to take it to a Leather Worker or Smith to get it repaired. So the only thing he had to see any repairs about would be for his weapons currently. The bed that was built from straw, was pretty comfortable despite the shoddy craftsmanship. With a deep breath, Alex opened the message and winced.
Alex Du''mass IV,
I thought I could trust you to do as you are told. I thought we had corrected your independent thinking long ago. Well do not worry, eventually, we will catch up too you and we will reeducate you on not doing as you are told. Despite you abandoning your family, we have not abandoned you, so feel free to continue to play your games. We will eventually find you and bring you back into the fold.

Alex rolled over and scrambled for the washbasin as he tried to puke his dinner up. He knew exactly how caring and educating his father could be when he set his mind too it. Alex took a deep breath and gained control of his stomach as he looked into his own eyes. His hair color and eye color had been changed, but his facial features and scar were still the same. He had kept them as a reminder of his past and to not allow himself to be subjugated like that again. It could also be used to track him though and if his family got ahold of him, Alex shuddered to think of what they would do if they did.

Kingdom of Arang''more- Oakwood Forest Area
The next day Alex was combing through the Oakwood Forest again, grinding and doing both collection and extermination quests again. Having more armor, even shoddy armor and a better weapon allowed the extermination to go by quicker. This time there were no plants involved, just meat, and tusks. However, he had to go slightly deeper into the woods due to the fact the Young Boar did not have them, only Mature and Elder Boar had them and they ranged from level four to level seven.
The wolves also grew in size and they also were in pairs deeper in the woods, proving problematic for Alex to take one without receiving damage in return. So far he had managed to get a few, but they were more difficult and coordinated their attacks, so Alex always lost at least a third of his health and his armor was starting to come apart even more. Alex considered his options when the notification popped up.

Alex dismissed the information as his map updated and a timer appeared in the corner of his vision. Alex cursed and took off at a sprint towards the road, hopefully, he would get there in time.
The merchants, guards, and a handful of soldiers were fighting against a force of bandits that slightly outnumbered them. Alex quickly studied the ongoing battle as his Stamina recovered from his sprint through the forest, he was lucky not being tripped up by the animals of the Oakwood, but they largely ignored him or ran from him when he surprised them. Alex quickly analyzed one of the nearby Mages and grumbled at what he saw.

Serrated Iron Dagger for killing all the wolves and lynx yesterday. Alex triggered Backstab as he dropped out of Stealth. Critical Hit, Flanking, and Bleeding Wound scrolled across his eyes as one of his knives slammed into the healers back. He tried to scream but Alex''s off-hand weapons stabbed into the side of his throat and blood fountained out of the man''s open mouth.
The Priests health bar appeared and was steadily draining away and was already below two thirds as Alex continued to stab and slash until it finally bottomed out and disappeared. Before he could freak out Alex activated Stealth again and disappeared into the underbrush as he moved as quietly as he could. His next target was flinging little balls of Fire and Ice towards the ongoing melee and was not watching his surroundings as Alex moved closer. His Backstab Skill was still on cooldown so Alex was going to have to be careful and stab him in a critical area, like his spine.
Alex flinched a little as his primary weapon drove through the spine and almost missed his followup strike too the lungs with his off-hand dagger. However, he stayed true and drove the dagger deep as he twisted both blades widening the wounds and causing blood to erupt from both. The Mage whimpered as he collapsed and Alex hovered over him as he continued to drive his daggers into his lungs, kidneys, and throat as he died. Alex almost puked but he kept it in as he dropped back into Stealth and moved onto his next opponent.

Alex dismissed the information as he moved onto the next body, he had managed to take out three Mage''s and two archers before they figured out he was there. The resulting trio of arrows had almost killed him, but his actions had bought the guards and soldiers time to mop up the Bandit Swordsmen and come to his aid. "Thanks for your aid Immortal, without it we would have been hard-pressed to beat back the bandit attack." Alex looked at the soldier who was offering his hand and shook it.
"Your welcome sir," Alex responded softly and the Sergeant studied him more closely.
"I am assuming this was your first real fight?'' the man asked and Alex nodded his head in acknowledgment. ''It will get better. I assume you are staying at the fortress of Stalwart Hill? Why don''t you ride with us back to it? It is not that far and you won''t have to walk back alone." the man suggested and Alex shrugged as he looted the last of the Bandit bodies before following the soldier back to the caravan.

"Can I also recommend that you purchase some better armor, the armor you have looks to be falling apart." the Sergeant stated without managing to sound like an asshole.
"Yeah I am aware, but I have been trying to save money for traveling to the capital and training when I get too level twenty," Alex responded causing the soldier to snort.
"You have to invest in yourself, otherwise you won''t make it past level ten, much less get to level twenty.'' the Sergeant responded and Alex considered his words and nodded his head in agreement. ''I would also suggest once we get to the fortress you talk to the merchants you help save, they might have something that you can use, just don''t forget to barter with them." the man added.

1 Week Later...
Alex stalked through the run-down temple, dozens of Naga and their pets lay behind them, but they were finally nearing the end. Alex looked in the small cavern, there was two Priestess, two Warriors, and the Boss. The Warriors roamed back and forth in front of the dais and the two Priestesses were standing on either side of the throne and Boss. Alex quickly sent out a message to Bradon, the Tank of the group, about what they were facing. The Tank acknowledged the information and strode into the small cavern with three others right on his heels.
Alex continued to follow the curve of the cavern walls as he made his way towards the throne and the spell slingers there. His primary targets were the two Priestesses on either side of the throne, as long as they were alive, they would rain destruction down on the party. It took Alex a minute to get into position and he sent off a message, "Ready." Alex waited as Bradon made his way forward with another Warrior, an Archer and Mage were behind them waiting for them to attack before doing anything.
Bradon let out a shout and charged the nearest Naga causing it to reel back as his sword slammed into the Naga. The other Warrior waited two seconds and joined in the fight with the Archer and Mage following right on his heels. Alex was waiting longer for the Priestesses to fire off their first spells as he inched closer. Now he thought as he lashed out with both daggers as he triggered Backstab. The Naga let out a shrill scream that was part gurgle as blood started to fill her lungs as Alex continued to stab the Naga. Finally, once she was just below half health, she hissed and moved backward to slam Alex into the nearby wall, but he nimbly dropped off her back and threw himself aside as the Priestess slammed into the rocks and lost another chunk of health.
Alex quickly recovered and threw one off his throwing knives and imbedded it in her shoulder causing her spell to fizzle as he closed with her. The other party members were holding up well as they continued to fight the two Naga Warriors, Boss and finale Priestess. Before Alex could finish off his target a trio of arrows slammed into her and ended her life. Alex saluted the archer before disappearing back into Stealth as he made his way to the last surviving Priestess that was flinging spells at the Warriors below.
Alex checked and Backstab was still on cooldown so he would have to hopefully get a Critical Hit, so he would have to aim for a vulnerable area. Alex smiled and jumped up as he drove his off-hand dagger into the Naga''s shoulder so he could swing further up and slammed his main hand into the back of her skull. The screech of pain cut off as her health dropped like a rock as she moved spastically. Alex grunted as he held the bile down and withdrew the dagger and drove it into the Naga''s throat causing the Priestess to collapse as he rolled clear.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.Alex quickly looked at the main fight, only the Boss was still up but both of the friendly Warriors were in the critical zone and both were downing Health Potions just too keep up with the boss''s damage. Alex quickly dropped back into Stealth and slid forward as Backstab came off cooldown and the overpowered Skill was readied to use again. With a grim smile, he activated Backstab and slammed his dagger into the overgrown Naga''s back eliciting a roar of pain from it. Nearly an eighth of its health dropped away in a heartbeat and blood fountained from the open wound as the Boss started to glow. "GET BACK!!" Bradon barked out and Alex immediately jumped backward but it was too late.
A wave of water picked Alex up and slammed him into the back wall and took two-thirds of his health away.

Alex shook his head and puked as everything spun a little bit. Ok, dumb thing to do Alex thought as he pulled a Minor Health Potion from his belt and downed it and threw the empty vial at the Boss that was recovering from his attack. The Boss glared at Alex and pointed the trident in his hand at him, Alex immediately rolled out of the way as a small bright blue bolt slammed into the stairs where Alex had been. Alex quickly Analyzed the Boss as he got to his feet as Bradon and Axel got back into the fight.

Bradon quickly regained the attention of the boss, who immediately went back to trying to pound the Tank into the ground while Axel and the others continued to whittle away at its health. Alex scrambled and grabbed his dropped knives and tried to activate Stealth but a Notification and glare from Ana''Thon stopped him from disappearing. Alex grimaced as he collected himself and moved forward, his daggers leading the way forward.
"Well that sucked, but at least he is finally down. Thanks for helping man, we tried to down him twice and both times we failed and almost didn''t make it out." Bradon stated and Axel nodded with a smile. The archer whistled and tossed something at Alex, he caught it and looked at the belts stats.

"Well give me a couple of minutes to get the chest open and we can all get out of here," Alex responded as he made his way to the small chest behind the throne. It blended perfectly with the throne and the room itself and without his Keen Sight Skill, he probably would never have spotted it.
"Ok, do you know what class you are going to get?" the archer asked and Alex shrugged.
"Beyond melee, well probably melee, not really. There are a lot of choices to choose from and I honestly don''t know what Primary Class to choose." Alex responded as he started to fiddle with the lock.
"Well, you might want to think about that. No established Guild will take anyone without a Primary Class. Unless you are looking for a small casual guild, then you will be perfectly fine." Axel added and Alex nodded absently as he continued to fiddle with the lock until finally, they heard a click and Alex gestured them all to move back in case it was trapped and he had missed it.
Alex pumped his fist, "We hit the big time, we got gold, uncut gems, what looks like a rusty key if anyone wants it, and a glass figurine. I think the A.I. gods are fucking with us." Alex stated as he contemplated the two odd items while the others chuckled.
"Take the Rusty Key and my old bow.'' Derrik the archer stated as he put both in his hands. ''Try out the bow for a while, you still have four more Level before you can even acquire a Primary Class." the Archer reminded him.

"Come on, I will throw in five silver if you make the run, upfront." the Warrior pleaded.
Alex snorted, "No thanks. It''s not a matter of money. Plus I am thinking about going to the city of Prahmore and its a long walk up the coast.'' Alex told him as he continued to eat his food. ''Look, the group I did the Dungeon with had a Ranger wit them named Derrik, ask him if you need a Rogue type." Alex suggested before finishing his food before heading for the door.
The waterfront was mostly peaceful at this time of night, only a few people still working on various things and they were quickly wrapping everything up. He had another message from his father, but he had deleted it. The rest of his family had not reached out too him, not yet anyway. Alex quickly pulled up the messaging system and started looking for his family names, knowing his brother, he would change his name to something idiotic and what he thought would be intimidating. His father and mother had too much pride to change their names but he did not want to talk to them, that left his sister.
Anastasia Du''mass,
I have no idea why any of you would reach out too me. I have never been considered to be family by any of you. I have been treated no better than a dog to be used and abused then cast aside when not needed. Tell your father and mother I am out. Whatever plans they have made, whatever they want to do, I want no part in it. I am done with the Du''mass family and their backstabbing, bickering, and schemes. This place is a new chance at life and I have decided to take it. Leave me alone and I will leave you alone. Goodbye Ana.
Alex
Note* Due to the recipient being in another Nation, the message will be sent the next time you reach a city. Do you still wish to send it? YES/NO
Alex mentally approved sending it and since he would be in another city within a week or so, he would be fine with the message being sent then and not sooner.
Teleport followed be Stealth. Less than ten seconds later, two figures rushed by the alley opening. Street toughs and maybe even thieves, but without Analyzing them, he couldn''t be sure. Based on their body size, weapons, and armor, they were probably Warriors though.
The had a quick discussion that Alex could not hear and split up, one continuing down the street and the other started to look around the immediate area. Alex stalked forward and moved closer to the remaining thug. He was almost caught twice and without Stealth, the other man would have attacked him already. Alex stayed patient though and managed to keep cool despite wanting to throw up. Once he was in range he triggered Backstab and he jammed his knife in the base of the thug''s skull.
Three-quarters of the man''s health disappeared and a health bar and tag appeared. Level fourteen Thug rapidly disappeared as he drunkenly grabbed his sword and swung at Alex who rolled clear. Alex was tempted to let the man bleed to death, but if he yelled or screamed he could bring his companion back and Alex didn''t want to face both head-on. Alex ducked dodged another swing and lunged forward burying both daggers into the Thugs chest. With one last gurgle, he collapsed. Alex immediately grabbed his arms and dragged the body in the nearby ally.

"Well, it looks like they won''t be joining the Thieves Guild after all. You, on the other hand, have potential.'' Alex froze as the women smiled, ''Good, don''t take anything for granted or at face value. Those two idiots wanted to become Enforcers for the guild, but they obviously failed. However, a skilled Thief is far more valuable, if you are interested in becoming a Thief look me up in the town of Breckenridge when you get to level twenty Immortal. My name is Candice and you can find me in the Smoked Eel." with a wink she disappeared back into Stealth.

Alex sighed, he probably could have gotten more for the gear, but he was ready to unload it all and he wanted to get rid of it before anyone tracked him down. More than one group of thieves had tried to relieve Alex of his meager wealth on the road too Prahmore. Alex had gotten the better of the exchanges for the most part. "Do you need to purchase anything sir?" the owner asked and Alex shook his head indicating he wasn''t shopping to purchase anything.
"I just got in, I am going to find an Inn and get some food and a bath. I will come back later afterwords." Alex told the owner as he stepped away to leave. He didn''t a Debuff yet, but he was fairly sure he was close to getting it after walking half the day to get into the city.
"May I recommend the Prancing Rooster, it''s only one block over and a Silver a day and it includes food as well as a room. The Drunken Meister is where you can locate all the various Rogue Trainers but beware of any thievery in the city. The Kings Law will see you fined and imprisoned for breaking the law." the man stated as Alex''s map of the city updated with the two new locations.
"Is their anyone willing to train me in Alchemy?" Alex asked before leaving.
"There are several Alchemists on Black Row or down near the Mage Quarters." the Owner responded and Alex thanked him again before leaving.

Five silver for a couple of days for a room and dinner ever night at the Prancing Rooster, breakfast and lunch were extra. Alex frowned, he couldn''t log out and save money, this was his world now. A little over an hour later he was walking down Black Row towards the Drunken Meister when he noticed he was being followed, nothing new, but this time they were just pacing him. "Relax kid, we are just checking out the new potential.'' Alex jerked to a stop and watched as the person dropped out of Stealth from the nearby shadows. ''I am Mona Ri''card, Assassins Guild representative and recruiter." she stated and Alex studied her. She was a hybrid Human and Elf, about five feet tall and maybe weighed a hundred and ten pounds soaking wet.
"Alex and I have no idea what Primary Class I want to persue," Alex replied as he moved closer to the nearby wall and put it to his back. It earned him a smirk and nod from Mona and a snicker from one of the nearby shadows that dissolved into a man.
"Well, I know for a fact you have an open invitation to join the Thieves Guild, you can choose to become a Thief or Enforcer. Multiple career choices, unlike the Assassins Guild." the man stated with a wink.
Mona rolled her eyes before looking back at Alex, "Yes if you want to be used as a pawn by the Thieves Guild, feel free to join them. However, there are a lot of choices for Rogues, such as Ranger, Hunter, or Assassin." she stated.
"What is the difference between a Thief and an Assassin if you do not mind me asking?" Alex prodded at Mona causing the man to groan and walk away in disgust.
"Thieves have three Skill Branches just like Assassins, but they specialize in Infiltration, disarming traps, and stealing while Assassins are more oriented to stealth, short intense fights, and poisons," Mona responded with a smirk before tossing a potion at him and Alex reflexively caught it and brought up the information on it.

Description: This potion will unlock the Rogue Skill Tree.
"Will becoming a Thief or Assassin assure a position with either guild?" Alex asked and Mona frowned and shook her head.
"No, the class is just that, earning a position within either organization would require you doing jobs and quests to earn Admittance and then Rank within that guild," Mona responded quickly as her eyes continued to roam over the nearby area.
"What is expected of us if we want to apply to get in?" Alex asked as he stashed the potion into his inventory.
"Come on, let''s go sit and drink while we talk." Mona motioned for Alex to follow her as she led him to the Drunken Meister.
"How many Guild quests are we expected to complete every week?" Alex asked as he sipped his beer and checked his Status.

Buff Well Fed: Increase Health Regeneration by 10% (Duration 2 Hours)
Debuff Slightly Intoxicated: Accuracy decreased by 5% (Duration 1 Hour)
Alex pushed the beer away, he was never a big drinker, not with his family around. He wasn''t going to start now with him being surrounded by Thieves and Assassins. "You have to complete at least one Guild Quest per month to maintain the lowest position in the Guild. However, once you are in, you gain access to Safe Houses, the Blackmarket, training, and of course Class and Guild Quests. You won''t owe any dues like that Engineers Union, you just have to do a single Guild Quest every thirty days. What you do in your time is up too you, but if you go against the Guilds rules or if you kill someone they say is off-limits, the Guild will put a Death Mark on you and anyone can kill you without any repercussions." Mona explained before taking another drink.
"What would be required of me to join the Assassins Guild? Can I get out if I want too?" Alex asked as he sat back.
"You can get out whenever you want. As far as getting in, you have to take out a target on your own without any help. Once you are issued a Quest, you will have three days to track and take out the target. You cannot be caught in the act, if you do, the quest is considered a failure even if you kill your target. Understand?" Mona asked as she sat back and studied him.
"If I fail?" Alex asked.
Mona had a grim smile that was not warm or inviting, "Don''t fail."

Alex looked up as he heard thunder, he could smell the water on the air, it was going to start raining soon. It would provide him more cover but it might drive his target to hide somewhere or even change his route. Dave emerged from the squat building and looked around before starting down the road. Alex shadowed him across the roofs for now, once he got to a more isolated part of the city, he would Teleport down and take his shot.
Shank, a fountain of blood burst from the wound as a Bleeding Debuff took effect and another fourth of his health disappeared. Then Dave''s elbow smashed into Alex''s ribs and he was sent reeling backward.

Alex rolled forward and under his widespread arms before jumping to his feet and activating Gauge.
Both his knives glowed slightly as they slammed into the man''s back and zeroed out his health bar as he collapsed. Alex stumbled back withdrawing his knives and cleaning them quickly before resheathing them and looting the body. He quickly moved off and let the rain wash the blood off his hands and arms.

Several patrons nodded towards Mona and acknowledged her, but were also differential towards her. Alex quickly followed after her as she wound her way deeper into the Inn until they went into a room and she moved to a bookcase and manipulated several of the books until the bookcase slid aside revealing a staircase leading downwards.
"Most cities across the surface and Underdark have a subterranean component that the Thieves Guild, Smugglers Union, and Assassins Guild use to do business. Its considered neutral territory to all the guilds and spilling blood here is a death sentence to those who do it. However, if someone starts a fight, you better finish it!!" Mona stated as they walked deeper below the city. ''Now some of these facilities we share with the Thieves Guild, like the Agility Course and the Black Market, and other things." Mona stated as they started passing such facilities.
"Now before you ask, yes the sewers below the city count as neutral ground, unless its quest related, no fighting.'' Mona added as they approached a small storefront. ''This is our Factor and where you can purchase equipment from the Guild Quartermaster, the Job Board is here where you can pick up Guild Quests and Contracts. Harry, meet our newest member Alex Dumass." Mona introduced him to the man behind the counter.
The Dwarf looked him up and down and grunted in disgust, "You look like a piss poor Assassin with that gear. You gave him the rin at least, right Mona?" Harry asked the recruiter.
Mona rolled her eyes, "Yes I did, so why don''t you hook him up with the Initiate Gear. Every time you gain a new rank within the Guild, we issue you some new armor. Being an Initiate, it''s not the best but it''s better then what you have on." Mona said amused at Alex''s gear. Harry laughed loud and hard as he brought together several pieces of equipment and placed them on the counter in front of Alex.
"Well this equipment is definitely an upgrade for you," Harry stated as he plopped a pair of leather boots on top of the other leather armor pieces. As Alex started to grab up everything and threw it in his inventory Harry''s hand shot out and grabbed the makeshift necklace around Ale''s neck. ''Where did you get this?" the Dwarf asked as he studied the old key.
"Found it on my first Dungeon run. I am keeping it as a reminder of where I started out and how far I have come. Yes, I know everything has a purpose and I am sure it unlocks something, somewhere, but it has a different meaning too me." Alex told the Dwarf who studied it before letting it go.
"Well if you ever want to find out anything about it, go so Loremaster Riggs in the city library, we have an agreement with him to help us with any obscure loot. That key falls under that category." Harry stated.
Quest Issued: Sentimental Keepsake or is it???
Description: The key you wear as a keepsake, might very well lead to some real treasure. The Assassins Guild Quartermaster Harry Longfist has suggested you go see the Loremaster Riggs in the Prahmore city library to see if the key is of any significance.

Failure: Do not take the key to Lore Master Riggs

"Well that is something you can think about later Alex. Now I will be your contact with the guild while you are here in Prahmore. I am assuming while you are staying in the city you will keep your lodging at the Prancing Rooster?" Mona asked and Alex nodded his head in agreement. ''Well good luck Assassin, we will be in contact if we need your services. Stay out of trouble please, I know these are trying time for you Immortals with your world dying, but you have a second chance here." Mona stated before turning and leaving.
"Lad one more thing, touch this map, it will update your map with a layout of the Undercity and access points above ground," Harry stated indicating the old map in front of him. Alex moved over and touched it.

The ring alone was a huge upgrade for him, despite diving into three Dungeons, the only piece of equipment he had acquired along the way was a belt at the Naga temple weeks ago. "Better, much better Alex. Now you at least look the part of an Assassin," Harry stated before chuckling at the idea of Alex''s former armor before turning away.
Alex rolled his eyes and made his way over to the board, from the layout Contracts were on one side on voluntary Guild Quests were on the other. Most of them required people of a higher level or higher rank within the Assassins Guild, but a few were within both parameters that he could take.

Alex dismissed the information after reading it again, he had about an hour before nightfall, so he headed back towards the Drunken Meister. He would deal with the Blood Wood then if he had enough time, he would scout out the teacher tomorrow afternoon.

Alex threw himself down as the Vampire sailed over his head, he quickly looked at the thing and studied it. Level twenty-four Feral Vampire flashed above its head and a quarter of its health was gone. Alex checked and the Sloth Poison he had on his daggers currently, had another thirty seconds before he had to renew it. Without the poison, Alex would become Vampire food very quickly, they were just too fast but the Sloth Poison he used slowed them down somewhat.
The Vampire let out a hiss and streaked towards him but Alex moved to the side and the Vampire went sailing past, but not before Alex triggered Shank and slammed one of his daggers into the Vampire causing it to howl in pain and crumple to the ground. Alex immediately took advantage of it and triggered Gauge as he jumped on it. The Vampire screamed in pain as both daggers slammed into it and dropped the Vampire health below half as the poison and Bleeding Debuffs started to eat away at its remaining health.
Alex quickly looted the thing as before pulling out an apple and started munching on it as he let his Stamina and Mana recover naturally and checking his Assassins Skill Tree.

Alex watched as the sickly yellow glow faded from his daggers as the Sloth Poison wore off. The poison was easy to make and he paid the cost upfront and the small vials lasted forever from what he could tell. He still had two more and plenty more of the weed required to make it. Alex looked around and checked his surroundings before climbing up a nearby tree, the Vampire was rare during the daytime, but he didn''t want to get ambushed while preparing another dose of the poison. He had made that mistake once already and Alex had almost died due to it.
Thirty seconds later he had a new vial of yellow poison that took about five seconds to apply to both daggers. It didn''t do much damage, but the Stamina and Speed Debuffs were far more important to Alex right now. Alex dropped down to the forest floor and set off again in search of Feral Vampires, hopefully, this time, he would do the ambushing.
Alex looked down and could see five Feral Vampires fighting against a bear, two creatures that looked like wolves but were made of vines, leaves, and wood, and a woman in flowing green robes and leather he assumed was a Druid. The Vampire was winning slowly, two other of the wooden constructs lay torn apart and one Vampire was dead in return. Alex considered his option as he applied Sloth Poison too his daggers then dropped down to the forest floor. A small clock appeared on his HUD and started winding down to when the poison expired.
Alex cast Distract, a small prismatic ball of energy floated over the Vampires and immediately caught their attention and breaking all the combat as Alex stalked closer and target the weakest Vampire of the lot. Alex dropped out of Stealth as he activated Backstab, Critical Hit and Flanking scrolled across his eyes as the Vampire dropped and Alex spun and moved onto the next Vampire as he activated Flurry causing his daggers to glow bright red as he started stabbing the Vampire as the Druids pets attacked the other distracted Vampires.
Alex watched as the Vampire crumpled and looked at the ongoing fight, he activated Shadow Step and immediately sunk both daggers into the nearest Vampire as he activated Gauge, the Vampire whimpered as its health zeroed out and the remaining Vampire turned to run but the Druids pets tore into them and quickly killed them.

"Thanks for the help, but I did not expect to see an Assassin out here. Usually its Druids and Rangers. Hi, I am Mandy.'' Mandy the Druid stated as she studied Alex. Alex nodded his head in acknowledgment as he cleaned his weapons before sheathing them and started looting the Vampires he had killed. ''Arn''t you going to ask why I am out here?" Mandy continued.
Alex rolled his eyes, a girl that liked being the center of attention. "No, not really. Your business is your own and my business is my own. I could see you needed help, so I helped. Now we go our separate ways." Alex responded as he continued to loot.
"Well I have a Dungeon Quest, I might be willing to share it with you," Mandy stated and Alex rolled his eyes again.
"Not interested, but thanks for the offer," Alex replied as he stood and left.
Mandy ran after him, "Wait, I will pay you five gold to help me run it." Alex glared and rolled his eyes.
"If you have that much money, you can hire a group from the Adventurers Guild to assist you," Alex replied as he continued to walk away from the Druid.
"Please!! Five Gold and first pick on any one item, no questions asked." Mandy implored him and Alex stopped and glared at her.
"It''s not the matter of money or loot, I am not equipped to go Dungeon diving and its only two of us. We are both DPS, we have no Healer or Tank. So no." Alex replied.
"The Patriarch Vampire I have to kill supposedly has some good Rogue gear, whatever it is would all be yours," Mandy added and that actually got him to stop. His gear was far from top-notch and even the gear from the Assassins Guild was just a step up from what was par for his Level and without the Set Bonuses, they would be par for what he could earn or buy.
"We would need a Tank and a Healer, I would get the first choice on ANY Rogue gear, and one item of my choosing, no questions asked or complaining," Alex responded as he considered what he had potion wise in his inventory. He had six potions of Minor Healing and six of Minor Stamina. He didn''t have any Mana potions or even the Recipe to create them, yet.
"Deal!! I have two people already on their way there and should meet us outside the ruins, one is a Shield Warden and the other is a Cleric." Mandy replied as she started pushing deeper into the woods. Alex looked one last time around him and followed her.
Chapter 8- Undead Dance
Surface- Craggy Shore Region
Kingdom of Arang''more- Blood Forest
Ruins of Dera''gon Keep Dungeon
The Dungeon was full of more than just Vampires, it had Undead and Gargoyles too. What made it worse was, the Undead being dead, meant his Poison damage and knives did less damage, which caused Alex more frustration then he let on. However they continued to push on and the Experience and money flowed in, despite Alex''s handicap.
"Ok, the first boss is an Elder Vampire, Level 23 Mini-Boss. He is a Necromancer, summoner type, and can throw out some physical damage due to being a Vampire. Alex you Stealth and setup behind the boss and as soon as I get his attention, jump in. Whenever he summons adds, burn them down quickly. Got it Mandy?" the Shield Warden laid out. Alex nodded as he activated Stealth as they opened the door and started moving slowly around the room, skirting all the furniture and anything that might delay him.
The tank, Ajax, was not subtle at all. He just walked in and drew aggro immediately, but it gave Alex his opening and a moment to Analyze the mini-boss.
Spoiler: Spoiler
Name: Aaron Deathspeaker (Mini-Boss)
Level: 23
Health: 10,000
Stamina: 6,000
Mana: 12,000
Alex dismissed the information as the Vampire threw a bolt of magic at Ajex that enveloped the tank in black and yellow energy. The Cleric shouted and spit out a word of power as golden energy surrounded the Ajax as he charged the boss. Alex shook his head, he was glad he had not followed his father''s instructions. Alex quickly coated his daggers with poison before approaching the boss who was reeling from Ajax''s assault. Alex pushed forward and moved as quickly as he could behind the Vampire
Alex''s Backstab took nearly five percent of the Bosses'' health as he dropped out of Stealth. The boss roared in rage and pain as it shifted to attack Alex immediately and threw a hand forewards casting a spell. Alex quickly jumped away to avoid the magical blast. Ajax rumbled something and activated a Skill that immediately drew the Bosses'' attention back towards him. Alex took a deep breath and waited a few moments before attacking again.
"Good job." Ajax offered as Alex checked the room for hidden compartments, chests, nooks, and crannies.
"Yeah, except I drew Aggro with my first attack," Alex responded as he found another small bag of gold and tossed it to the Cleric who was dividing everything. The boss had dropped twelve gold, some silver, copper, a ring for a Mage and a dagger for a Necromancer. The dagger had been the best of the loot, but none of them could use it and Alex passed on it. He could sell it, but it would be useless to him.
"Yeah, well...live and learn. I am not going to complain, it helped put a dent into the bosses'' health pool and it meant I took less damage overall." the Tank replied.
"Which saves me from having to heal his ass soo much." the Cleric added.
Alex smiled at their banter as he finished scanning the room, "Ok, from what I can tell, that is it." the Rogue informed them and the prepared to move out. Alex dropped into Stealth as the others got ready and he silently moved deeper into the Dungeon to scout ahead to look for patrol and traps.
Alex dived to the side as the Fireball sailed overhead and slammed into the far wall. "WHEN THE FUCK DID ZOMBIES GET MAGIC?!?!" Alex called out as he rolled to his feet and activated Shadow Step. He appeared behind the Zombie Mage and immediately activated Backstab and Shank taking it down to critical levels as Mandy continued to pepper it with spells. Ajax was busy dealing with three Skeletal Warriors and could not help.
"They are a rare type, but they exist." the Cleric called back as he hit the Zombie with a Smite finishing it.
"Crazy assed world!!'' Alex called out as he tried to drop into Stealth and failed. Then two arrows slammed into his back and took Alex to half health, as another patrol approached. ''They are coming from behind!!" Alex called out as he used Teleport to get behind Ajex and beyond the range of the new patrol. Alex quickly downed a Minor Healing Potion and noticed that Ajex and the Cleric were having a difficult time as is with all the current enemies. Alex quickly triggered Distract and the new patrol stopped to stare and the strobing ball of energy. This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
"That bought us ten seconds," Alex called out as started slashing at the Skeletal Warriors engaged with Ajax.
"I am Summoning some help, buy me thirty seconds," Mandy called out as she stopped flinging spells around and downed a Mana Potion before she started casting a spell. Alex shook his head as two of the Skeletal Warrior finally went down, but Alex''s Distract finally ran out and the whole patrol charged them. Alex triggered Shadow Step and appeared behind the Skeletal Archer and slammed both daggers into it as he activated Gauge. A quarter of the Skeletons'' health vanished as Alex went to work.
Alex grumbled as he continued to search for hidden loot, the second Boss had been downed and the Death Knight dropped a couple of pieces of equipment for Warriors. The Rogue was beginning to think this place had nothing for him equipment-wise. He had received plenty of coins though and he had acquired enough potions to replace the ones he had used so far, but anything equipment-wise, he found this Dungeon lacking.
Alex had finally looked up the information on the Dungeon in the Forums and found that the finale Boss was the only one that dropped any Rogue gear and it was rare that he did. He was tempted to be mad at Mandy, but it was his own fault for not doing his own research before coming. It had taught him a lesson though, he would never jump into a Dungeon he had not researched beforehand.
"She really isn''t that bad," Ajax stated as he drummed his fingers on his sword hilt.
"She played me, but it''s my own fault. I should have done my research before agreeing to come here. You guys are fine, but I won''t help her out again." Alex told the Shield Warden who frowned but nodded his head.
"You aren''t going to do anything, are you?" Ajax asked.
Alex laughed, "I didn''t take it personally, otherwise I would already be gone. However, I won''t let it happen again. That was on me. It also tells me what type of person she is.'' Alex explained. ''She puts out a spoiled rich bitch and entitled like an aura. Her actions to get me to come, prove she is exactly that." Alex told the Warrior.
Mandy stomped up, "You don''t know me. Don''t judge me."
Alex snorted in amusement and smirked but continued to work, "I grew up with a sister exactly the same way and a whole family of self-entitled assholes. I know the type very well." Alex responded as Ajax moved between Alex and Mandy to try and diffuse the situation.
"Listen, Mandy, we both know you stretched the truth. You made promises that he would earn some upgrades here, and this place hardly ever drops Rogue gear. You should have told him up front and been honest. Despite deceiving him, he has decided to stay and finish the run. So give him a break." Ajax told the Druid who sniffed and stomped off. Alex looked at the Tank and nodded his thanks before continuing the search.
Duke Renold Gaspard was a nasty looky bastard in chainmail with a large bastard sword, he had a couple of Necromancers and Skeletal Warriors with him all waiting for them. "Let me guess, Stealth and take out the Necro''s?" Alex asked Ajax who smiled and nodded his head as Mandy was muttering out a spell to summon her pets.
Alex downed a potion that would boost his agility for the next ten minutes then tossed a Potion of Stone Skin towards the tank who read the stats and shrugged before downing at as Alex disappeared. Unlike armor, Stoneskin could not be bypassed by attacks, but it didn''t provide much boost to one''s defenses.
As soon as the crossed the threshold to the room, the Skeletal Warriors charged and the Boss stood from his throne and quickly moved to join them. Alex Analyzed the Boss as he made his way around the room towards the Necromancers.

Alex dismissed the information as he silently stalked the Necromancers. He was only going to get one shot at this, and if he screwed it up, his surprise attack would be blown. While Alex was concentrating on the Necromancers, Ajax, the Wood Wolves, and Mandy concentrated on the Boss and Skeletal Warriors.
Alex crept quietly through the room until he was behind the closest Necromancer. He quickly made sure both of his blades were covered in Sloth Poison before he triggered Backstab. Flanking, Critical Hit quickly flashed across his eyes as the Necromancer stumbled from the brutal attack. Alex quickly capitalized upon his advantage as he launched a series of attacks at the reeling Mage. Suddenly dozens of skeletal hands burst from the grounds and grabbed onto his legs and arms.
BATTLE ALERT...
Debuff Grasping Hands: Movement/Attack Speed decreased by 60% (Duration 30 Seconds)
BATTLE ALERT...
Alex cursed and threw himself forward and buried his knives into the Necromancer as he triggered Shank. His offhand knife glowed softly as it slammed into the Necromancer eliciting a scream and causing the Mage''s health to plummet like a rock as he died. Alex quickly looked at the other Necromancer that what chanting.
Not good Alex thought as he triggered Shadow Step and appeared behind the Necromancer as he activated Gauge. No critical hit this time, but an eighth of the Mages'' health disappeared in an eyeblink and the Necromancer also received both poison and Bleeding Debuffs for Alex''s efforts. It also interrupted the Necromancer''s chanting and caused some backlash damage. The Mage snarled and spit out a word enveloping Alex in yellow and black energy.
BATTLE ALERT...
Debuff Pestilence: 50 DPS (Duration 10 Seconds)
BATTLE ALERT...
Alex cursed and coughed as he moved forward, his daggers lashing out as he continued to whittle down the Necromancer''s health as the disease continued to eat at his health. The Mage tried to defend himself using his staff, but he just couldn''t match Alex''s speed or nimbleness despite having two Levels on him. The Necromancer quickly crumpled to the ground bleeding out. Alex quickly pulled a Minor Health Potion and a Minor Stamina Potion and downed both before disappearing back into Stealth.
Alex inspected the dagger, it was a mix of steel, bone, and other odd materials Aled had no name for. "I can''t believe you are agreeing to give that away. We could easily get a couple thousand Gold for that, easily." Mandy fumed.
"We had an agreement, Mandy, I get any Rogue gear. That knife fall under that line, plus you all got at least two pieces during this run, so stop bitching." Alex replied quickly as he placed it into his inventory.
Mandy looked like she was going to say something else but Ajax stepped forward, "Enough, we all know you dicked him over. If you want it so bad, buy it from him. Otherwise, stop whining. We all have things too do outside this Dungeon, let''s get out of here." Ajax headed for the exit, the Cleric quickly following the Shield Warden Mandy glared at Alex who simply smiled and winked at her before following the other party members out of the dungeon and back into the forest.

Alex rolled out of bed as his alarm went off. After finishing up the Dungeon located in the Blood Forest and turning in the quest for that area, he had come back to the inn and had promptly fallen asleep after eating and taking a quick bath. Between the Quest and Dungeon, Alex had netted enough experience to gain two Levels.

Alex whistled, he had two more Skill Points and ten Stat Points to spend after gaining the new Levels, but for now, he held off. He had done some research last night while eating and he had to do one thing before going anywhere. The bow he had acquired could be Soulbound and Alex wasn''t going to walk around with it in his inventory or go into the Drunken Meister without it being Souldbound too him. Anthony knew it would be too tempting to the Thieves and Assassins there for them too just sit back and do nothing.
Alex cut his finger and touched the handle of the knife causing a Notification to pop up.

Alex dismissed the information and put the knife into his inventory. It was an amazing find for his Level, too bad he couldn''t use it, not yet anyway. He still had another Dungeon he had too clear and he had to track down the abusive teacher and find out more about her. A full day ahead of him in other words.
A person in a cloak with their hood up will be noticed almost anywhere, a beggar, on the other hand, can almost go anywhere and be ignored. So even with Alex begging near the school and keeping an eye on Miss''s personality didn''t draw any undue attention. At least not the normal kind. "Hey, you!! You aren''t part of the Union, shove off." another beggar came up.This narrative has been purloined without the author''s approval. Report any appearances on Amazon.
"Hey, no one else was here and I ain''t bothering nobody. Leave me alone." Alex responded while keeping his eyes downcast.
"I don''t give a fuck mate, get the hell out of here." the beggar replied and went to kick him but Alex intercepted the blow and pushed the beggar further into the ally until he slammed into the wall. Alex pulled one of his daggers and pricked the beggers cheek.
"I don''t care about your guild, I am here for my own reasons and if you cause me trouble I will end you. Understand mate?" Alex grated out.
The beggar''s eyes bulged as he looked at the knife and his ring. "I apologize, sir, if you were here on official business you should have said so and I would have left you alone. The Beggers Union has no feud with the Assassins, I will be on my way.'' the beggar replied quickly. Alex studied him and nodded his head as he backed away and resheathed his dagger. ''I am assuming you are new sir? Next time just show your ring and you will be left alone. Good day sir." the bigger stated before leaving.
Alex tracked him for a moment before going back to his original position, their little scuffle had not drawn any unwanted attention. Miss Mills, on the other hand, could not say the same thing. A child was crying nearby and she was yelling at her, the other nearby teachers did nothing but keep the other children away. A part of Alex wanted to go over there and slit her throat right there in front of everyone, but that isn''t how the Assassins worked.
They set examples by getting to people no one thinks that can be touched. Ally Mills would soon be dead and her death would set an example of how not to handle children. The question was, how he would get too her. Her home was a well-established estate with personal guards and magical wards. At his current level, there was no way Alex could infiltrate its grounds. That left the school or somewhere in between the school and her home.
Alex plotted and thought as he continued to watch and study.
"So what is the problem?" Mona asked as she sat down opposite to him. They were down in the undercity so Alex could freely talk about guild business.
"I took a contract, I am just trying to figure out how to get to my target. She works and goes home pretty much. She does not have much of social life from what I have seen and her residence is protected by physical and magical means from what I have determined." Alex told the more experienced Assassin.
"Let me guess, the infamous Ally MIlls?'' Mona asked and Alex nodded his head. ''Yeah her family usually buys out whatever contract we have and pays off the families of the abused and even will relocate them if they are willing to go. Honestly, if she wasn''t the only daughter, it would be far cheaper for the family just to let her die." Mona stated and shook her head in disgust.
"Wait, this isn''t the first time a Termination Contract was placed on her head?" Alex asked confused as to why she was still alive.
"Nope, this is the sixth time I have seen it in five years. Every time, her family pays off those that have been abused and they withdraw the contract." Mona replied and shrugged her shoulders.
"So, how can I get to her before the contract is rescinded?" Alex asked and Mona chuckled.
"An act of a god or really good luck," Mona replied.
"How would the guild feel if we damaged a building?" Alex asked as he continued to think.
"Ahh, the Guild doesn''t like collateral damage at all. To public property or lives. If we do that, it will risk bringing the King down on us across the entire kingdom. The guild won''t risk that for one rich bitch." Mona responded while glaring and Alex.
Alex rolled his eyes, "It was just a thought. If it''s unacceptable, I won''t do it. Relax oh great and powerful Mona!!!" Alex replied quickly with a wink.
Alex was walking towards the inner city and the Haunted Mansion Dungeon when something caught his ear and immediately raised his ire. "Relax Alex, a silver piece for a reading of your future." the woman stated with a smile.
Alex rolled his eyes, "No one can see the future, people can make educated guesses based on current decisions, but the future is fluid and cannot be predicted." Alex replied causing the woman to smile and laugh.
"True, but perhaps I can help you in making the best decisions for you lad.'' the woman replied with a smile as she raised her empty hand out. Alex smiled and shook his head as he pulled a single silver coin from his inventory and dropped it in her hand. ''Good, please come in and sit." the cloaked woman stated and Alex entered her small tent and sat across from her with a rueful smile on his face.
"Let me guess, my future is wrought with danger, that I will know pain and love, but in the end, it will be up to me how my future will play out?" Alex mock asked her.
The woman snarled and grasped his head as her eyes started to glow, "Do not mock me, boy, the future is very fluid with many ending and paths, I take great risks in telling of your possibilities.'' She responded and shook his head. ''Now give me a moment to watch and see, then I will talk boy." she stated before she relaxed her grip somewhat and started mumbling as the glowing of her eyes intensified until it started bleeding away from her face and formed almost a mask over her face. Alex studied the energy and it almost looked like a cat when it suddenly disappeared.
"You are correct boy, you face many dangers, some you already know in the form of your family. They have not started to hunt you, not yet but they will within a month''s time. They are still consolidating their holdings within the Underdark among the Duergar and Drow." Alex snarled and started to draw his knives when the woman made a simple gesture.
Battle Alert...
Debuff Sands of Holding: You have been Immobilized and cannot use Skills/Abilities (Duration Until Canceled)
Battle Alert...
"Relax boy, I am no enemy of yours." the woman quickly stated as Alex strained against what held him.
"That does not make us friends or allies." Alex snarled in reply as he tried to trigger Teleport then Shadow Step, but bright red notifications saying both Abilities had failed due to the Sands of Holding Debuff.
The woman quirked an eyebrow at him and released the spell, "I hope that proves that I am not lying and that I mean you no harm."
Alex snorted and sat back down, "It proves nothing except you can hold me against my will. What do you want?"
"Interesting necklace, may I see it?" the woman asked as she pointed to the key he was wearing around his neck.
Alex frowned at her and removed it from around his neck and reluctantly handed it over, "Its nothing special, just an old key, nothing special." Alex replied and the woman smiled.
She twisted part of it and the teeth of the key withdrew back into the shaft and she studied it before smiling and handing it back."''Now it looks like it should, be very careful who you show that too. When the time comes, you will know what to do with it and no one can decide for you. Good luck." The woman stated then ushered him out of the tent. Alex pulled the stats of the key up.

Alex gaped at it and looked back, but the tent and woman were gon. Alex frowned and shook his head as he started walking again towards the inner city.
"You take too many risks sister," he told the robed woman.
"Chaos scratches at her prison, the Vampire bought us some time but Chaos still makes inroads within the Pantheons. We need allies among the Mortal Races and he needs to be awoken from his slumber. It goes against my nature to let evil walk freely in this world unopposed." She replied.
"You believe an Assassin will be good?" the armored man stated.
The robed woman smiled, "Horus you forget, sometimes a knife in the dark can do far more good then a sword stroke in the day." the robed women smiled and opened a portal before gesturing the armored man to go through. She looked back one last time before following him.

"Listen, I understand you are pissed off, you put a couple of days of surveillance on her and she really is a piece of shit, but the Termination Contract was rescinded. That''s it." Mona stated as Alex fumed.
"How did they find out?" Alex asked as he sipped his drink.
"Who found out what?" Mona asked in response.
"How did her family know that someone had placed a contract out on her life? I didn''t discuss it with anyone outside the Guild. So who spilled the beans? They keep finding out, so either the Assassins Guild has a leak or they have someone watching over her. Which is it?" Alex explained as he considered the last couple of days he had been observing her.
The only time he felt like he had been watched was from the bum that had tried to get him to go away from the school. "The Assassins Guild does not leak. Anyone who would betray us like that would face worse than death. Even an Immortal member would face harsh punishment." Mona replied at the implied accusation.
"Is their a Beggars Union?" Alex asked as his fingers drummed on the table.
"Yes, they are used as informants and spies by the Smugglers, Thieves, and Assassins. The Beggers Union can go almost anywhere and not be observed. Why?'' Mona replied as she studied Alex. Alex ground his teeth in frustration as he rose and stomped off with a curse. ''Don''t start anything Alex, that bitch isn''t worth it." Mona called after him as Alex disappeared into the gloom of the Undercity.

Alex tracked his new target, he lived better then Alex did even though he was a beggar. He lived alone in an apartment above a bakery and Alex easily picked the lock that led into the attic. Alex took his time to scoop out everything for any traps or hidden items but found nothing in the attic. So Alex pressed on too the second floor under Stealth, taking it slow and sure.
The bedroom door was more difficult, but eventually, it yielded to his lockpicks. Alex silently made his way over to the bed as he checked the room for any traps or triggers but found nothing. He did spot a small compartment but it could wait until after he was done with talking to his old friend. Alex jumped on top of him and pressed one of his daggers to his throat while his other hand clapped over his mouth. "Scream or yell and you die. Did you do it?" Alex asked and moved his hand enough the older man could respond.
"I don''t know what you are talking about." he gasped out and Alex pressed his knife harder against the man''s throat...
"I won''t ask again. Did you do it." Alex asked as he pressed the knife harder against the man''s throat and blood welled up under the blade and the beggar tried to move back but Alex kneed him int the ribs.
"YES, DAMMIT!! I told the Mills family an Assassin was snooping around the precious twisted flower. They pay really well and put me up here in return for keeping an eye out and my ears to the ground concerning anything with their family. Its just business." the man stated and Alex nodded his head and drove his dagged up into the beggar''s brain as he triggered Shank. The beggar spasmed once as his health bad dropped and emptied.

Alex quickly looted the body and went to the hidden spot and pulled it open. Within it was several letters between the beggar and the Lord Mills concerning his daughter. Alex shook his head in disgust as he pulled out a small bag that had over a dozen gold coins in it and several precious stones. Finally, he pulled a dagger at the bottom of the little cubby and pulled its stats up.

Alex wanted to whistle as he read the stats and immediately equipped it before moving back to the body and got to work. How the hell did this beggar get the damned weapon Alex wondered as he moved back to the body. Sometimes the only lesson was the brutal one. Time for the Mills family to learn their lesson.

The heavy knocking on his door woke Alex up. "Open up Alex, we need to talk," Mona called through the door. Alex rolled out of bed and made his way over too the door as he palmed a knife and held it behind his back.
"What do you want?" Alex asked as he yanked the door open.
Mona pushed in and looked around the room, she was alone at least, but then again he wouldn''t be much of a challenge for her anyway. "Did you do it?" Mona asked.
"Did I do what? If something happened to Ally Mills, it wasn''t me." Alex replied as he pulled a shirt from his inventory and threw it on.
"No, nothing happened to her but, a head was sent to her and eye and a tongue were sent to her father. Their family is up in arms and wanting the city guard to do something about it and they have already assigned a Constable to the case. Did you have anything to do with it?" Mona asked as she glared at him.
"Did I kill someone that was interfering with guild business consistently. What''s it matter anyway?" Alex replied as he leaned back against the door as he considered his options if this turned violent. His respawn location wasn''t here, so if she killed him, he could disappear. No one could loot the wardrobe while he was paid up with the inn, and he had another four days until the room was no longer his.
"All the underworld Guilds in a very precarious balance, if we push that balance too far one way or another, it can start a war between the Guilds. The Beggers Union wants to know who killed one of their own that was in good standing. So, did you do it?" Mona asked.
"Yeah, I did. The bastard was getting paid by the Mills family to watch over that abusive bitch of a daughter. I just took out their eyes and ears. Yes, I know they can hire someone else, but maybe next time their spy will think twice about protecting a piece of shit like that." Alex replied causing Mona to frown and shake her head in frustration.
"You cannot go around and kill people like this. We have rules in place. If you wanted to file a complaint, you should have talked to me. We could have done this the proper way." Mona told Alex as she started to pace.
Alex frowned, "How was he a member in good standing when he wasn''t paying the Beggers Union a portion of his profits for spying for the Mills family. I also have correspondence between the Lord Mills and their rat confirming that multiple contracts have been taken out against Ally Mills and that her father paid for them to go away. That information should get both the Beggers Union and the authorities off our backs." Alex replied causing Mona to stop and reconsider.
"Give me the letters, I will get them to the proper people and you will be there for the meeting with the Beggers Union in the Undercity. I will message you when I know when and where it will be. Do not be late." Mona stated as Alex handed over the letters. Mona quickly left and Alex went back to sleep.

Alex stared at the three representatives of the Beggers Union, they didn''t look like any beggars. They all wore fine clothing and had deadly looking weapons on them. "He murdered a Begger and damaged his corpse. Is this how we can expect the Assassins to act?" the lead man of the Beggers Union asked. Alex was pretty sure his name was Jerome, but they were reluctant to give up names.
"No, but your man was dealing on the side and not paying his dues to your Guild. That work got him killed." Mona replied calmly as she laid out some of the letters Alex had acquired.
Jerome picked them up and quickly scanned them before muttering a curse. "Roach, Freddy answered too you. Did you know about any of this?" Jerome asked the man on his right.
"No, but Freddy was always guarded about where he worked and always paid his dues on time so I never asked," Roach replied as he read the letters before handing them back to Mona.
"Either way, it was our problem. It should have been reported to us to deal with. I think your boy there should owe us a gold debt and a favor.'' Jerome added and Alex snorted. ''Got something to say, boy?" Jerome glared at him and Mona tried to wave Alex off but he decided to respond.
"Your boy, Freddy, interfered with six contracts. Three people were murdered and three kids were permanently damaged because our contract kept being interfered with by your Guild member. Is your Guild going to offer recompense for that to us and those families hurt by Freddy''s actions?'' Alex asked as he pointed out everything that had happened since the first Termination Contract had been rescinded. ''From what I understand, members in good standing with their Guilds, are held to a certain standard. If I am being held accountable for my actions, your Guild must be held responsible for Freddy''s actions and the consequences of those actions. How much Gold would that be to the Assassins Guild Mona?" Alex responded as he looked at the more experienced Assassin.
Mona smiled and he saw a certain gleam in her eyes now, "Six hundred Gold to us, one hundred for every Termination Contract interfered with. To the families who lost someone, fifty Gold minimum and those with crippled family members one gold a month for the remainder of their lives and they have to backpay for all the missed payments." Mona replied with a smile and wink to him but all the emotions went away as she turned back to the Beggers Union representatives.
Jerome, Roach, and the third man frowned and Jerome pulled the others closer and started talking to them in a low voice the grew louder as the discussion went on until he finally yelled out "ENOUGH!!! You are right Assassin Alex Dumass, the Beggers Union will be held responsible for what happened. We will repay this debt by first withdrawing our complaint against you. We also wish to take a Termination Contract out on Ally Mills for the amount of five hundred Gold with no time limit. Half will be paid upfront and the other half upon completion of the contract. We will also pay the Gold Debt to the families starting tomorrow. Is this acceptable compromise Dagger Mona Ri''card?" Jerome asked with a slight bow.
Mona smiled, "That is acceptable compromise Spinster Jerome Tre''thal. Go in peace cousin and may the Shadows ever guide your path.'' Jerome bowed slightly and hustled the other beggers out of the room leaving Mona and Alex alone. ''Smooth move newbie. You stumbled onto that solution but don''t expect that luck to hold forever." Mona told him and Alex looked confused.
Mona saw Alex''s confusion so she explained. "If the Beggers Union had refused to pay the Gold Debt to the Assassins Guild and the families, we would have been within our rights to inform the families and authorities about what happened. The Constables and Guards of this city would have come down on the Beggers Union like a ton of bricks. The Beggers Union work would have been disrupted for six months to a year at least. The higher-ups within the Beggers Union would have had all the mid-level management on up within the city killed and new leadership appointed as well for disruption of their business." Mona explained to Alex.
"Oh, I was just trying to balance the scales, not threaten anyone," Alex replied and Mona laughed.
"Yes I am aware of that and Jerome probably knows that too, but I would have made sure the proper authorities knew what happened within this city and within the Beggers Union. Jerome knew that that''s why he capitulated and withdrew his complaint." Mona replied with a wink as she gestured to the door and Alex nodded as he continued to frown and consider the ramifications of one member of a guild and what his greed had caused.

Alex moved across the rooftops as he watched his target walk below. The guy was an idiot that worked as a clerk, but he had pissed someone off enough to earn a contract. Alex quickly pulled it up and reviewed it again.
Termination Contract: Damien Ithal
Description: Damien is a Clerk for the city planning office. According to his coworkers, he is known for taking bribes and going back on deals. Eliminate him.
Required Rank: Initiate
Time Frame: 5 Days (Three days left)
Rewards: 500 Experience, 5 Gold, Increased Reputation with the Assassins Guild
Damien would not be a problem from what he could see. Alex had tracked him over the last two days and he drank a lot after work before heading home. He lived alone and had no close family. The only ones that would miss him would be his coworkers and Damien had the next two days off. Then Mr. Ithal stepped into an ally and started puking, Alex grimaced in disgust but he wasn''t going to miss the opportunity either. He quickly activated Shadow Step and appeared behind the puking drunk. Alex immediately activated Backstab and Shank as both his blades plunged into his target. Damien moaned a little bit but gave no yell as he died almost instantly from the overwhelming attack.
Alex quickly moved the man deeper into the alleyway and looted his body before using Teleport to get back on top of a nearby roof and moving away.
"So...he was puking when you killed him.'' Harry had a smirk on his face and Alex rolled his eyes. The Dwarf roared with laughter. ''Lad, we got to work on your arrogance and storytelling. Assassins are supposed to be arrogant pricks, your throwing the whole persona off." Harry told him before laughing again.
"Yeah well, if he was going to leave himself in such a vulnerable state, I was going to take advantage of it. As far as the Assassin persona, I would rather stay alive then become a dead arrogant Assassin." Alex told the Dwarf that slid the five Gold coin over for completing the Termination Contract on Damien Ithal.
"Now are you going to take some time off or are you going to continue to work? If you keep working so hard, I am going to start wondering why you didn''t become a Dwarf.'' Harry stated and Alex shrugged his shoulders in response. ''Lad, you have completed four different contracts in the last four days. Take some time off. Go get drunk and get laid. Go gamble and have some fun." the Dwarf suggested but considering the fact he was senior to Alex within the Guild, he would take it as an order.
"I will go work on my Alchemy which has fallen way behind and maybe go get my necklace looked at, ok?" Alex replied and Harry Longfist nodded and shooed him out of the little shop.

"So how can I help you today sir?" Loremaster Riggs asked as he entered the room.
Alex looked at the man, he was five and a half feet tall and not very imposing figure, but neither were Mages. "Yes sir, I was told by an associate of mine to come to see you. A Dwarf by the name, Harry Longfist. He said that you might be able to assist me in finding out more information about an item I acquired in a Dungeon. I would also require discretion on your part and I want anything we discuss to be kept confidential from anyone." Alex told him as he placed five gold pieces in front of the Loremaster.
The Loremaster smiled as he looked at the gold coins then back to Alex, "Of course Sir, how can I be of service to you?"
Alex studied the man then took the Ankh of Light and Darkness off from around his neck and placed it on the table next to the gold. Loremaster Riggs moved forward and placed his hand over it as he started to mutter as his hand glowed with silver and blue energy. After a minute he frowned and stepped back. "Will you please come with me and bring the necklace with you. I am going to have to use a more powerful Divinng on the item and I need the assistance of a Ritualistic Circle." Loremaster Riggs stated as he pocketed the money.
Alex nodded his head and recovered the Ankh of Light and Darkness and put it back on as he followed the man deeper into the library and through one of the employee only doors. Less then five minutes later they were in the room and Loremaster Riggs sat down in the middle of the circle and the necklace was placed in another portion of the circle. "This will take a few minutes, feel free to sit down but please do not disturb me otherwise I will have to start all over again." the Librarian stated before closing his eyes and started to chant.
Ten minutes later Alex saw the first shadow move. At first, he thought he was seeing things, but it continued on and on until Alex started to get worried as the shadows started to coalesce into an actual being. Alex slowly moved until his hands rested on his dagger hilts and ready to draw at the first sign of hostility. Finally, the shadows stopped moving and it was studying the Loremaster who continued to chant as the Runes and Sigils making up the RItual Circle continued to blaze with energy. The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Suddenly the Shadow threw its hand forward and a wave of darkness slammed into a shield around Loremaster Riggs. The librarian smirked a little bit and Alex got an uneasy feeling so he quickly Analyzed the Loremaster.

The shadow being threw another blast of darkness at the shield and once again the attack was nullified. Alex drew his daggers and triggered Shadow Step and appeared behind the Loremaster in Stealth, Alex immediately triggered Backstab and slammed Gutter deep into the Chaos Master''s back.
The Loremaster arched his back and screamed in pain as his health dropped by a quarter and the Ritual stopped. Riggs turned and wobbled as he threw a wave of energy at Alex who deftly jumped aside and rolled to his feet as he moved to reengage the Loremaster. Alex stormed in the Assassins Guild little factor shop and grabbed Harry Longfist by his collar and dragged the Dwarf into his storeroom and slammed the door shut and before drawing one of his daggers and pointed it at the Dwarfs eye. "Boy, you best relax and think about this," Harry growled out as he balled up his fists.
"Did you know he was a fucking Chaos Acolyte? Did you send me there to die Harry?" Alex growled right back.
"Who? Riggs? I had no idea, take it slow and tell me what happened lad.'' Harry replied trying to get Alex to calm down. Alex took a deep breath and resheathed the dagger but kept his grip on it as he told the Dwarf everything from the Seer on the street to his encounter with the Loremaster and the Shadow Guardian. In the end, Harry leaned back against the door and whistled. ''Well shit. I am sorry lad, I had no idea he had joined Chaos. Why he would try and destroy your necklace, I have no idea. I would suggest we talk to Mona and tell her everything. At the least, we will receive some blowback for the Loremaster''s death. You stay here in the Undercity and don''t go far. Go next door and get some food and drink lad, I will be over in a minute." Harry told him as he opened the door and left as he started messaging the senior Assassin.
Alex sipped the juice while eating chicken and dumplings with some bread when Mona and Harry joined him. "You just can''t seem to stay out of trouble Initiate." Mona quipped as she sat down.
"Yes, it seems I have a giant ''come kick me'' sign on my back for bad luck. Now, what can we do?" Alex asked before he continued to eat.
"More than one person remembered you and another remembered you asking about Loremaster Riggs, so you are linked to his death although the Constables are unsure how. They have figured out that you were present and wounded him, but did not kill him. The fact he was a Chaos Acolyte is something in your favor though.'' Mona informed him. ''Now you can stay or you can leave the city. If you choose to leave though, you will have to travel far away for now. I would suggest the capitol for now." Mona stated and Alex shrugged his shoulders. All he had was in his inventory currently so he wouldn''t have to go out and get anything.
"That''s fine with me. How can I get outside the city?" Alex asked in response.
"The Smugglers Union will get you outside the city walls, once there you can use a Portal Scroll to get to the city of Arkburn. The Guild front there is the Shattered Shield in Low Town. Go there and you can get access to the Undercity there." Mona stated as she placed the scroll in front of Alex.

Chapter 12- First Impressions
Surface- Shinning Hills Region
Kingdom of Arang''mor- City of Arkburn
Low Town District- Shattered Shield
The city of Arkburn could best be described as beautiful, and massive in scope to say the least. Massive granite walls protected it, most of the inner rings of the city were constructed of marble, it was known as the ''City of Light'' due to it being the seat of the Council of Light being here and where all the Light Races would meet and discuss any problems.
A little over a million people lived within the walls of the city and it would be easy to get lost within its walls. Hopefully, no one would come hunting him Alex thought as he walked through the gates of the outer reaches of the city. A double handful of guards were watching everyone coming and going and only stopped anyone with a cart or wagon.
Alex was just wearing his newbie gear and had a crappy knife equipped, all his Assassin gear was stowed away for the moment. Alex was hoping he wouldn''t draw unwanted attention this way and he succeeded for the most part. A few people glanced his way since it was rare for newbies to go outside the city walls without leveling up enough but once they could see his level the just moved on.
Low Town was one of the poorer districts of the city, a ramshackle collection of buildings and people. It also housed the headquarters of all the shadow organizations, Thieves, Beggers, Smugglers, Assassins, anything at all that was borderline or outside the law, they had a presence in Low Town. Alex quickly made his way to the Shattered Shield and more then one person studied him as he entered the Inn and made his way to the bar. "You sure you are in the right place lad?'' the man standing behind the bar asked and Alex quickly equipped his Mark of the Assassin ring and tapped the bar to grab his attention. ''Well then, that''s entirely different. Go down the hallway, second door on the left. I assume this is your first time here, talk to Dagger Thrace, he will be in the Peach Pit diner down below. I will message him and let you know you are coming." Alex placed a silver on the counter and followed the instructions of the bartender.
The man guarding the door looked at him and glanced at his ring before moving out of the way and letting Alex have access to the door. He quickly moved through the door and moved to the nearby bookshelf and studied it. A small handful of books glowed gold due to his Keen Sight Skill. Ales gently pulled on all of them causing a trap door to swing down and reveal a passageway leading downwards and into the Undercity.
"You might have gotten away with walking outside the rules we have out west, but we are far harsher here. Don''t break our rules Initiate and we won''t have a problem. I am Dagger Thrace, I run the day-to-day operations of the Assassins Guild within this city and nearby areas. You will answer too Valerion, she is one of my seconds and is currently out on a contract. I will notify her that you have arrived and she will be in contact with you with a couple of days. Stay out of trouble at least until then." Thrace stated before turning away in clear dismissal of Alex.
Alex simply turned and walked away, and walked towards the nearby Guild Board. It was twice the size as the one in Prahmore, but then again Arkburn was twice its size, so more jobs to take. Most of the Termination Contracts called for a higher rank then he had, but some fell within his purview. After some consideration, Alex made his choices and acquired them.
Termination Contract: Anthony Ulay
Description: This contract was taken out by the Smugglers Union. Anthony Ulay is a former member of the Smugglers Union and was cast out in disgrace. He is working in direct competition of the Smugglers Union and they want him eliminated as soon as possible.

Guild Quest: Rat Attack

Those rat bastards (I am so under-appreciated) can be found almost anywhere within the Sewers below the city. Hunt some of them down and report back to Factor Luciell within the Assassins Stronghold for your reward.
Rat Kings Slain: 0/10
Sewer Rats Slain: 0/40
Success: Hunt down and slay Sewer Rats and Rat Kings
Failure: Do not hunt down and slay the Sewer Rats and Rat Kings
Rewards: 2,000 Experience, 10 Gold, Increased, Increased Reputation with the Assassins Guild and the city of Arkburn
"Don''t take it personally, Thrace has a lot of pressure on him from the Guild and this place has a lot of eyes on it due to it being the center of our power here in Arang''mor. So if anything bad happens, it makes him look bad." Another Assassin stated as he walked up.
"Sure, whatever you say," Alex replied with a congenial smile before walking away but he knew arrogant people and Thrace was arrogant, to say the least. It didn''t mean it was not warranted, just it was rude for new people. Alex shook his head, he would hold the man in the same regard he held Alex, as nothing of note until he was proved otherwise. Alex moved over to the local map of the Undercity and updated his map with all the information before heading out, time to find some lodging and get some sleep.

Red Herring Inn
After some exploration and more than one talk with the local guards, Alex finally found an affordable Inn and in a location, he found acceptable to work from, in other words, easier to escape and disappear from. After everything that had happened in Prahmore if everything went to shit, he wanted to be able to escape quickly into or out of the city. The Red Herring had everything he wanted, including long-term lodging at affordable prices of half a silver a day with a minimum of fourteen days. It would include breakfast though, lunch and dinner would have to come out of his pocket which could easily eat through his small savings but there were plenty of Quests on the local Quest Board.
So after paying his dues at the Inn, Alex made his way directly to the Quest Board at the nearest street corner. Most of them were fetch quests around the city, but all of them had some experience and Reputation gains for the city which could be the difference between life and death someday. Alex collected a half dozen that he could do quickly and within a few hours before the city would shut down for the night and nicked them out before heading back to his temporary home.
Along the way, he saw more than one Thief or Begger, but they all left him alone and gave him a wide berth.
Alex watched as the last Sewer Rat died and turned to deal with the Rat King, but before he could do anything its paw slammed into him and sent him flying into the nearby wall and took a quarter of his health with it.
Battle Alert...
Debuff Blunt Trauma: Stamina Regeneration decreased by 20% (Duration 1 Minute)
Battle Alert...
Alex swiped the notification away as he popped the cork on a Minor Healing Potion and downed it in one gulp as he stood. The Rat Kings stood just over five and a half feet tall of solid muscle, fur, and teeth. Alex had learned earlier to kill them last otherwise any nearby Sewer Rats were sent into a Berserker Rage and would keep attacking until he killed them. Having four Sewer Rats go into a rage was not a fun experience.
Alex got to his feet as the Rat King charged him and activated Shadow Step disappearing from view and dropping into Stealth. Alex watched as the Rat King skid to a stop as he snuck closer then savagely stabbed Gutter into his back as he activated Backstab. Over a quarter of the Rat King''s health disappeared in a blink of an eye as Alex went to work to kill the oversized rat. However, Sewer Rats and Rat Kings were far more nimble than most MOBs and danced away as Alex advanced and activated another Skill, Flurry.
His daggers glowing slightly red, Alex ducked under the Rat King''s arms and started slashing and stabbing, each hit eating steadily away at the Rat King''s health as the Bleed Debuffs stacked up and eventually ate away completely at the monsters Health. With one last squeak/snarl, the Rat King died. "Better than your first fight with them, but you still have room to improve.'' Alex heard behind him causing him to whirl around and come face to face with another Assassin by her gear. ''Relax, I am Valerion. I will oversee any and all work you do for the guild while you are here in Arkburn. I wanted to come by and introduce myself before you did anything that could cause problems for Thrace or the Guild." Valerion stated as she walked closer.
"In that order, ok," Alex replied as he squatted down and looted the Rat King while keeping his eyes on Valerion who frowned at his response.
"I take care of Thrace''s problems, stay out of trouble and you won''t be a problem," Valerion responded and Alex smirked at her.
"Is that all you do for him?" Alex asked and she snarled as her hand dropped to her sword hilt as Alex Analyzed her.

"He is my brother!!" Valerion responded and Alex smirked, it wouldn''t be the first time a sibling abused another. ''What?" Valerion spat the word as she took a step closer to Alex as he put his daggers away.
"You never answered my question, so I will take it as confirmation.'' Alex replied while keeping the smirk on his face, he knew he was playing a dangerous game but he would play it out. Valerion blurred forward as she drew her sword and Alex rolled his eyes as he continued to talk. ''Easily manipulated and angered, no wonder he has you take out his trash. You are a blunt instrument and nothing more." Alex stated causing her to freeze in surprise.
Alex smiled and continued, "Since you are so easily manipulated, I cannot trust you Valerion. Don''t worry, I will keep my nose clean and stay out of trouble. Do me a favor, stay away and I will keep being a good boy." Alex told her and walked off. If she chooses to kill him, there was little he could do about it, so he might as well walk away in contempt for her and the Dagger of Arkburn.
It was a calculated insult to both her and her brother, what Alex had said and how he had treated her. If Thrace did anything in return, he would be breaking his own rules and acknowledging that Alex was more then just an annoying Initiate. He could do neither thing and maintain his current position as Dagger of the city.

"Ok, so explain it to me," Alex asked the other Immortal who laughed at the statement.
"Talking religion, especially for Ithea could take all day, but I am certain you want the abridged version?'' the Priest a asked and at Alex''s nod, he continued. ''Ok, so the Human''s fall under one of two Pantheons, the Greek/Roman gods and the Egyptian gods. The Dwarves fall under the Dwarven gods, Orc''s fall under the Orc gods, and so on. Following me so far?" the Priest asked.
Alex rolled his eyes, "Yes, I got it so far. Only the Human Race has more than one Pantheon I got it."
The Priest smiled and continued, "Now for those not Priests, like yourself, you can go to any Temple or Altar, and give any god an offering and give enough at one time or overtime and you can receive almost anything. From a one-off Abilities to a permanent increase to a Stat, a Quest, the list is endless and random. That said, once you gain the attention of a god, if you do something they don''t like, that can and will punish you for actions.'' the Priest stated and Alex nodded in understanding. He knew all about punishment. ''Now as far as Religious icons, each Pantheon has them, and each god usually has at least one symbol associated with them. For example, Zeus has a lightning bolt, Horus has the falcon or the all-seeing eye. There is any number of symbols for the Pantheons. Now you asked about the Ankh, it is associated with the Egyptian Pantheon. Usually from my understanding, it is associated with Life and Death. If you want to know more, you would have to find a Priest of their Pantheon." the Priest finished.
"I am guessing there are not many here?" Alex asked and the priest shrugged.
"No, there might be a few sects located within this kingdom, but they would be rare and few in numbers. Usually, outcasts like that are...not well-liked by the mainstream religious factions so they will be wary of an outsider. I am sorry, but if you want to know more, you will have to track down a Priest of the Egyptian Pantheon. Goodluck." the Priest stated and bowed slightly before leaving. Alex considered his option as he leaned back on the bench.
"Thank you dear." the old woman stated and Alex forced a smile in return.
"No problem ma''am," Alex stated in a cheerful voice he did not feel.

Alex sighed and rolled his neck and arms, the last delivery had brought him near where Anthony Ulay lived. Alex was hoping to tail the man and figure out his routine, but so far over the last two days, he had found very little about the man''s schedule as a regular thing. He went to odd places and locations, never with any routine so far. The only place Alex had not seen him go was the warehouse the man owned. The two things Alex was sure about him was, he was always at home at sundown and left at sun up.
Alex frowned at what he could do, the guy almost never traveled along and he always traveled on well lit or patrolled streets. Getting to him would have to happen at his home, however, Anthony Ulay''s home was well fortified with both magical and mundane defenses well beyond his capabilities to disarm currently. Alex considered going to the Assassins Guild for assistance, but due to their lack of warm welcome, he was more than reluctant to do so. "What are you doing?" Valerion asked as she appeared walking in-step with Alex.
"Thinking and trying to figure out how to solve a problem," Alex replied as he tried to ignore her presence.
"Want any help?" Valerion asked with a smile and Alex snorted in amusement.
"You ask as if I would trust you. Go back to your brother, I will figure this out on my own." Alex told her as he brought up the Termination Contract information.

Alex rubbed his eyes as he sat back. He had been reading one book after another about the various gods and goddesses of the Egyptian Pantheon and found it more and more confusing. So many gods, some had disappeared, others killed, others brought back to life. It went on and on..."Enjoying yourself?" Alex looked up and saw a Librarian eyeing him in amusement and all the books on the nearby table.
"Not really. I was trying to figure something out and all I have is more questions and confusion." Alex replied as he yawned and stretched.
"Yes, the Egyptian Pantheons history as long and intricate, with many different stories. Some true, some false, but it makes for interesting reading. What are you looking for specifically?" the Librarian asked as he started to close and straighten the stacks of discarded books. The author''s content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
Alex considered it then thought ''fuck it'' before responding. "Egyptian gods associated with both Light and Darkness," Alex told him and the Librarian frowned.
"Egyptian gods are linked with duality. Light or Darkness. Life or Death. Not many are associated with both, so if you are looking for something associated with both, you would have a very short list of gods to consider.'' the Librarian stated as he moved over to one of the nearby shelves as he looked at the books until he stopped and pulled one out. ''This should help with your research. If you need any more assistance, please feel free to find me." with a slight bow and smile the man left.
''The Rising of the Sun and the Setting of the Moon'' was the title of the book, Alex sighed and cracked open the book and started reading it.
An hour later Alex closed the book and was ready to call it a day. He had been at this for hours and he still had to get caught up with his target and try to pin him down. As he was leaving he saw another Librarian moving through the section he was in. "Ma''am, can you tell your coworker ''thanks'' for the assistance and pointing out the book I need," Alex told her causing her to frown.
"What book was that?" the Librarian asked as she stopped.
"It was called ''The Rising of the Sun and the Setting of the Moon'' it was pretty dry reading, but it was exactly what I needed," Alex told her as he turned to leave, her hand shot out and stopped him.
"Two things sir, one I am the only one working in this section today. Two, there are very few copies of that book in this kingdom, the only one in this city is in the Royal Library in the Stronghold of the Light. Perhaps you should head home and go to bed." The Librarian stated before she patted Alex on the shoulder and left. Alex considered her words and went back too the room he had been in and the book was gone leaving him to wonder if it had really been there in the first place.

Alex had made sure to leave the Assassins Guild gear back in Arkburn in case they had a way to track it, he was going to miss it, but his freedom and trust with people were far more important.

Alex dived to the side as the scorpion sprayed point where he had been. With a flick of his wrist, Alex buried one of his throwing knives into a crease of its armor earning him a squeal of pain as the scorpion health dropped into the critical zone. The Assassin dashed forward and jumped over the scorpion pincers and slammed his knives into the scorpion''s eyes and earning a critical hit and killing it finally.
Alex looted the corpse as he pulled some jerky and a canteen from his inventory, he was grinding away and avoiding any big quest areas to try and avoid attention. He was also staying away from anything that could be related to the Assassins Guild, leaving them abruptly had left him with some trust issues. "So I was told to seek out the Egyptian Pantheon and any Priest or Priestess would have a better understanding of what I was trying to seek. I know based on Lore that the Goddess Nut is one of the Gods of Darkness within the Egyptian Pantheon. Could the Ankh of Light and Darkness be one of her icons?" Alex asked the Priest in front of him who frowned.
"Nut is a Goddess of the Night, but not of day. That is the realm of Ra and thus she would not have an Ankh of Light and Darkness. As I am sure you have been told, there is a lot of duality with our Pantheon. Usually, though a God or Goddess will be associated with one aspect or another. Not both, however...come with me, please. Each Temple has archives of every Order ever founded, even those considered mainstream." the Priest stated as he rose and walked out of his office with Alex on his heels.
Five minutes later, they were in a small library and the Priest cast a spell while touching the Ankh with one finger. After what had happened the last time magic had been worked on it, Alex was glad the priest was being careful. Within a minute a book had flown off the shelves and the Priest caught it as he continued chanting. The book started to glow and it floated out of the Priests hand and slammed down onto a nearby table and flipped to a certain page and stopped. The Priest cocked an eyebrow as he read the entry and gestured for Alex to do so after stepping back.

Order: Guardians of Osiris
Status: Extinct
Symbol: Ankh of Light and Darkness
Base of Operations: Unknown
Description: The Guardians of Osiris were a militant Order commissioned long ago and were wiped out shortly after Osiris disappeared, by the Fangs of Apophis. The Guardians of Osiris were made up of Necromancers, Spiritmancers, Shadowmasters, and Shadow Stalkers and their primary purpose were to be Osiris eyes, ears, and guards when he was on the Mortal Plane. Like most Militant Organization, the Guardians of Osiris had a hidden home that only initiates and Osiris knew of. After their destruction, all remains of the organization were absorbed by the Priests of Osiris or Isis.
"Ok...so I can''t even hand it over to the people who should have it, because they no longer exist. What about the Priests of Osiris, is there any within the city?" Alex asked the Priest of Nut who shook his head.
"No, the Priests of Osiris have fallen apart. With their God gone, the order has fallen into shambles with no real leadership anymore. Their Temples are maintained, but no one is hardly ever there. The main Temple of Osiris is to the west, about four days travel to the Oasis of Com''aron. I would suggest you gain more strength before venturing there Immortal, that place is not for the weak of heart, mind, or body and just because the order is practically gone, does not mean the Temple is undefended." the Priest urged and Alex nodded as his quest completed but a new one popped right up to fill the void.
"Can I ask one more question, why would a Chaos Acolyte be interested in destroying this necklace? If Osiris is dead, it shouldn''t matter anymore." Alex prodded.
"Apophis is a God of evil and chaos, it does not surprise me at all if the Lady of Chaos and he are allied. Tread carefully Immortal, you are walking a troubling path." the Priest stated before bowing slightly and leaving the room. This story originates from a different website. Alex took a long breath as he drummed his fingers on the hilts of his daggers. He had no guild support, his family was looking for him, and he was sure it was only a matter of time before Apophis or his allies got on the ball and threw something his way. Fuck it Alex thought as he accepted the quest and it was added to his Quest Log. Alex contemplated his next actions as he slowly walked out of the Temple.
"So you are looking for a team to power level you up to Level thirty-two, then possibly go beyond that depending on the circumstances. No questions asked, need discretion, and no followers of Apophis or Set, does that cover it?'' the Adventurers Guild representative asked and Alex nodded his head. ''In addition, you get the first choice at any Rogue equipment dropped and an equal share of the coin dropped, everything else belongs to our people." The Guild Rep looked up from the contract and Alex nodded in agreement again.
"This job will last a couple of days at least, can you give me a time frame for the second job after the power leveling?" the Adventurer asked.
Alex frowned, "Them being hired for the second job is contingent upon multiple things. If they don''t meet the criteria, they won''t be hired for the second job, its that simple. If I accept them for the second job, I will discuss the contract with them." Alex told the man who sat back and frowned.
"Very well, it''s a Gold piece a day with a minimum of three days. I can tell you right now, it will probably take at least three to five days to get you to the level you want. Do we have an Agreement?'' the man asked and Alex nodded as he placed the three coins on the desk in front of the Adventurers Guild representative. ''Very well, our people will be meeting you at the West Gate at dawn, do not be late. Any provisions or potions that you need will be on you. Good luck." Alex nodded and shook the man''s hand as he left the room.

"Listen, kid, just make this easy on both of us. Come with me, make no fuss or muss, and I promise no harm will come to you." the man stated and Alex smirked at him as he pointed to the scar on his face.
"You see this, my father gave it to me for getting a grade lower then he wanted me to get on a test. That is the least of the scars my family gave me.'' Alex told the man and distracted him as he pulled a throwing knife as he prepared to trigger Distract. ''The only way you would ever get me to go back to my crazy assed family is if I was dead." Alex told the man. The tracker frowned and started to reach for Alex and he cast Distract immediately. More the half the room was entranced, a few patrons were not and Alex immediately targeted one that was still staring at him from the far side as he activated Shadow Step as he threw the ready dagger at the Tracker.
In a blur, he was across the room in Stealth as the Tracker screamed out. "FIND HIM NOW!!! He can''t be too far." he bellowed as he stood, two other rose with him, including the man he was standing behind. Gutter slammed into the back of his skull, with the Backstab multiplier he was dead before his head hit the table as Alex activated Teleport and appeared behind the Trackers another companion. Both daggers slammed both his new target as he activated Gouge eliciting an agonizing scream from the man as his health plummeted like a rock.
The Tracker snarled as he disappeared and Alex threw himself forward as he tried to drop back into Stealth.

Alex snarled a curse as he skipped backward as he pulled another throwing knife and hurled it at the wounded man and killing him leaving him to face the lone Tracker now. Alex''s eyes were darting around as he moved around rapidly as the crowd shook off the effects of the Distract and either bolted out of the Inn or sat back to watch. Finally, the Tracker ran out of patience and dropped out of Stealth firing his bow.
Alex threw himself behind a table, but two of the arrows slammed into him before he made it behind some cover. He grabbed a Minor Health Potion and downed it as he ripped the two arrows out of his leg and side. Alex breathed and let the healing potion work as it worked to counteract the damage he had sustained. "You should have come peacefully, boy!! Now I am going to hurt you every step of the way back." The Tracker called out as he stalked closer. Alex watched the timer run down on Shadow Step and smiled.
Alex threw himself to the side and as soon as he laid eyes on the Tracker he activated Shadow Step and then Pick Pocket, he grabbed the coin purse and he heard the little jingle he had been successful as he activated Backstab again. The man cried out as his legs gave out and Alex drove his off-hand dagger into his throat. "Tell my family if they don''t leave me alone, I will come for them," Alex whispered in his ear before twisting both daggers and causing the other Immortals health to bottom out.

Alex dismissed the information, he had no interest in being a player killer and looked to see how much money he had stolen from the Tracker. Alex whistled as he could see he had acquired two hundred Gold, Pick Pocketing limited how much you could steal at ten percent at his current level and without any Skills increasing it. He quickly went over to the bar and placed twenty Gold onto it. "For the trouble, I have caused, I am sorry sir," Alex told the Bartender who smiled and winked.
"We didn''t see anything at all lad. I would suggest you leave though. This might have been a little spat between you Immortals, but I wouldn''t be surprised if the City Guard comes calling soon. I will make sure they know you paid for all the damage and no Locals were hurt. Get out of here kid." the Bartender told him and Alex nodded as he moved towards the back of the Inn and out into the night.

Alex studied the party in front of him and they studied him right back. "Well ladies and gentlemen, I am Alex Dumass, Rogue and Assassin. I am not part of the Guild though before you ask. Please introduce yourselves." Alex stated as he looked at the four Adventurers.
The Dwarf stepped forward, he wore heavy plate armor and had a shield and hammer strapped to his body, "I am Brounom Gravelheart, a Level forty-four Paladin of Moradin and tank of this party.'' the short stocky Dwarf stated before gesturing to the large Human standing next to him, ''This is Mozil Shov, a Level forty Berserker and pretty damned good with an ax. The Elf is a Level forty-five Pyromancer named Taeral Xiltris, finally, we have a Level forty-four Priestess Rol Kumon. We will be working with you for the foreseeable future." the Dwarf stated as he indicated each of the people around him.
"Where we going?" Alex asked the Paladin but the Pyromancer answered.
"We are going to the coast to the south, we will be spending the morning there and then we are going to dive into the Cells of the Lost Scorpion Lord, its a Dungeon for Level twenty five to thirty after lunch. We won''t be coming back to the city, but there is a small village near the Dungeon that you purchase some supplies if you need them. Questions?" She asked as she spun her staff with a little flourish.
Alex dove to the side as the wave of water crashed into the rocks, waves of magic fire slammed into the Naga causing them to scream in pain as Brounom slammed into the small group his hammer and shield lashing out. Alex took a breath as he activated Stealth and moved closer to the ongoing fight, Gutter held low and ready.
Once he was in position he activated Flurry, as his knives began to glow Alex lashed out causing blood to fly as he stabbed and sliced as he danced around the three Naga. More flames and Mozils ax joined them in the destruction of the three Naga and in less than a minute later the Naga were dead. Alex quickly looted the bodies and turned the equipment over too Mozil and Brounom to handle as he headed out to pull the next group of Naga. It was one of a couple of Quests from Happy Harbor, a small fishing village located near the Cells of the Lost Scorpion Lord Dungeon.

Alex dismissed the information as he approached the small patrol of Naga comprised of two Warriors, a Mage, and Priest. Alex pulled one of his throwing knives from his bandolier and waited until they got closer and targeted the Mage and hurled his blade causing the Naga to hiss in pain as the knife sink into the Naga''s shoulder. Alex immediately turned back and sprinted back towards his party the Naga quickly following him.

"For six Minor Healing Potions, two Medium Healing Potions, six Minor Stamina Potions, and six Minor Mana Potions it will be five Silver. Will that be all?" the man asked.
Alex looked at the Pyromancer, "Will I need anything else?"
"Maybe some Poison Resistance Potions or Antidote Potions," Taeral replied as the other properties worked to gather all the potions she had asked for. The others were off selling all the gear that they had acquired during the grind throughout the morning.
"How much are Poison Resistance Potions?" Alex asked the man who manipulated his interface as he looked up the information.Reading on this site? This novel is published elsewhere. Support the author by seeking out the original.
"Minor Resistance Potions are half a Silver, Medium a Silver, Large is five Silver. Do you wish to purchase any?" the man asked dryly.
Alex frowned before responding, "Add six Minor Poison Resistance Potions and that will be all." Alex told the man as he placed the Silver pieces on the counter. The man quickly added the six new potions on the counter and Alex rolled his eyes as he left the store. Arrogant assholes Alex thought as he took a deep breath and made his way over to a man selling skewers of meat and veggies, Alex handed over five Coppers and got a skewer and started eating as he waited for Taeral.
Alex was halfway done with his snack when she finally emerged from the store, "You got a real way with people. You didn''t even try to barter with him, why?" the Mage asked.
Ale frowned as he continued to eat, "He was being a dick and acting all arrogant. I don''t like people like that, so I finished up my shopping and left." Alex replied before finishing the skewer and tossing it.

Alex watched as the spiders scurried forward, Some seemed to disappear into the shadows while others seemed to move jerkily as if jumping forward. It was odd, to say the least. Alex flung a throwing knife at one, but the Spider disappeared before the weapon struck and the Spider reappeared somewhere else. Alex cocked his head at the new mobs and Analyzed one.

Alex grunted as he darted forward as he pulled his daggers from their sheaths, Brounom and Mozil right behind him but then the Tank activated Charge and darted forward as he slammed into the wave of oncoming Spiders. "Watch your health, these guys deal Shadow based damage, it bypasses non-magical armor," Rol called out before she started chanting.
Alex nodded absently as he darted to the side and around the ongoing melee as he activated Stealth and scuttled forward. Alex jumped the last couple feet as he slammed Gutter into the closest Shadow Spider as Backstab activated causing it to squeal in pain as it tried to buck Alex off, but his other knife slammed down and joined his other knife to shudder and collapse twitching as Alex rolled free. The other two spiders were twitching corpses, "Are all the mobs of this Dungeon like that. Do they all have elemental attacks?" Alex asked.
"No, most of this Dungeon has regular mobs, most of them are insect-based with a few pulled in from the various Planes. It is said the Boss of this location used to be a Lieutenants of the Fire Lord but was cast from the Plane of Fire for rebellion. Its only rumor though." Brounom replied as he cleaned his hammer.

Kingdom of Mul Duram- City of Mul Duram
Alex Du''maas the Third studied the city below as he waited for his guests to arrive, everything was going splendidly. All his family''s plans were working perfectly, the only snag they had was his eldest son was not here. His namesake and heir were somewhere on the surface currently far from his reach. He had hired a team that had made promises, but they had failed in the end. "Master, Mr. Shedwick is here." a nearby slave announced.
"Send them in," Alex replied without turning around.
Less than a minute later, three bound and gagged figures were dragged into the room, each of them was bloody and bruised. "Gentlemen, thank you for accepting my youngest son''s invitation for joining us. I truly appreciate the fortitude it takes to face your failures, not many would do it.'' Alex mused as he looked at his youngest sons Gregory who was studying the three figures while holding an ax in his hand. While Alex had gone the path of a Mage, his youngest had gone the path of a Warrior and excelled at it. ''You three had a simple task, bring my eldest son home. A simple and easy task. He is not in an Immortal Guild and he has little support among the Locals. So how exactly did he manage to kill all three of you and slip away?" Alex asked them.
It was a rhetorical question and one Alex did not expect them to answer, but it was a question that was running through his mind. "My brother is a weakling and pussy. How the hell did he manage to kill three of you?" Gregory asked, genuinely confused. With a snarl, he kicked one of the prone men before moving to the leader and removing the gag.
The leader lay panting, "Your eldest is an Assassin and I don''t mean just the Class. He took the training as well as the Class. He didn''t have the armor or ring, but from what I could find out, he had earned a spot within the Assassins Guild. He was able to spot my team members after I approached him and countered us almost immediately." he quickly informed them. Alex frowned as he studied the Tracker then snorted in amusement.
"It seems your brother has finally found his strength and balls, Gregory. It would seem we are going to have to use a more deft touch to entice your brother back into the fold. I will have to come up with another plan, see the guests to their rooms and enjoy yourself, do not break them, they are still useful tools." Alex admonished his youngest who smiled eagerly as he signaled the guards and helped drag the three men from the room.
Alex turned back to the view and began to compose a new message for his wife. She had always been better at the subtle plans, that is why she had agreed to join the Drow. They were legendary manipulators in all Lore, and from what she had reported, the Drow lived up to the legends. With a thought, the message was sent. Alex smiled, things were coming too head and it was all going according to plan.
Chapter 16- Odd Meeting
Surface- Rolling Dunes Region
Kingdom of Rolling Sands- Forgotten Forest of the Lost Dungeon
Alex threw himself into a role as the club came down sending shards of rock shooting out as it cracked the floor. "Stop grabbing their attention lad!!" Brounom yelled out before triggering some skill that blasted the Ogier with light and sent it reeling backward away from Alex.
"Sorry my Backstab does so much damage, I will try to control it in the future," Alex replied sarcastically as he slipped into Stealth and made his way behind the ongoing melee between the two Ogiers and the Dwarf/Berserker team. How the hell was he supposed to know when his Backstab was going to crit and grab the monsters aggro Alex thought as a barrage of Firebolts pelted to ten-foot-tall monsters. Both caught fire from the barrage and caused more damage.
This was their second day working together and their second Dungeon, they had not worked out all their kinks, but time would help with that. At least Alex thought so as he arrived in position and drove both daggers into the Ogier as he activated Gauge causing the creatures dwindling health to nosedive as the Ogier collapsed. The surviving Ogier bellowed in rage but quickly was downed between Brounom''s hammer and Mozil''s Ax. "Sorry, I have no control over if I get a critical hit," Alex told the Dwarf as he looted to two bodies. Each of them earned a Silver per Ogier.
The Dwarf snorted, "Well, I am not mad about that, it''s just annoying to have to grab the attention of a monster." Alex snorted in amusement as the two ladies of the group strolled over and joined them.
"Enjoying your new knife and cloak?" Rol asked as she strode up.
Alex smiled at her and winked, "Yes, they were both upgrades for me and long overdue." He told her before disappearing into Stealth and scouting ahead. Both his new knife, Poison Fang, and the cloak called Web of Shadows had been nice upgrades. The cloak more so Alex thought as he brought up the stats on both items as he moved slowly through the fortress halls.

The poison itself was a boon, but the constant drain on his Stamina and Mana were intuitive to what was coming when he used the bow Vengence. He still had all his Stat Points banked from the last couple levels, perhaps it was time to invest some of them into Intelligence and Strength to boost both his Stamina and Mana pools or find more equipment to augment those two Primary Stats.
Alex felt bones snap as the club slammed into him, then more bones were broken as he slammed into the nearby wall. An Ogier had slipped past Brounom and had made straight for Rol, who was to busy keeping the Tank alive, to pay attention. Alex hadn''t even thought about it as he triggered Shadow Step and appeared on the Ogiers shoulder as he slammed Gutter into the side of the Ogiers throat earning a bunch of multipliers causing the Ogier to roar in pain and anger as half of its health disappeared in an eye blink.
Fire Fang had joined his other dagger in being buried into the Ogier flesh as it wheeled around trying to dislodge Alex. When he eventually did so, the Ogier got a lucky shot in as he was flying and was blasted backwards into the nearby wall compounding the Ogiers damage.

Debuff Broken Back: Cannot move (Duration 5 Minutes)

BATLLE ALERT...
Alex dismissed the information as he pulled a Medium Healing Potion and downed it in a gulp, but it was only a delaying action. Between the Ogiers blow and the damage from slamming into the wall, he was already below half health. The Internal Bleeding Debuff would kill him. Well, it would if the raging Ogier wasn''t glaring at him and stomping over too him to finish him off. Alex felt the ground rattle a little bit as he desperately looked through his inventory and pulled out a Small Healing Tonic and downed it as he tried to crawl away.
As the Ogier raised its club and brought it down towards Alex, Brounom was suddenly there interposed between him and the Ogier. The Dwarf grunted with the effort but deflected the blow with his shield before driving his glowing hammer into the Ogier finishing it. The Dwarf looked back at him and shook his head in disgust before leaning over and touching him as healing magic coursed from the Dwarf and into Alex as Brounom chanted and whispered entreaties to his god. Within a minute Alex was healthy and devoid of Debuffs.
"Are you done playing the Tank lad?" Brounom asked with a chuckle and Alex nodded as he rolled to his feet with a groan.
Alex rolled his shoulders and stretched his newly healed back, "Yeah being a Tank hurts too much and I don''t have the health pool to take the damage." Alex told the Dwarf causing him to laugh. Alex leaned over and scooped up his daggers and sheathed them before rolling his neck causing more than one bone to crack as he stretched his neck.

Alex studied the black ring in front of him, it seemed to absorb the light around it and hit silver Runes and Sigils inscribed all over it. It had been a major upgrade for him considering he had only one good piece of jewelry equipped.

Description: Assassins are a dime a dozen, King Slayers are rare. Shadow Grasp is rumored to have been forged for Alin''Senara, the man who killed the Elven King Thereon Treagon III and started the war between the High-Elves and the Kingdom of Rolling Sands.
"Enjoying the sight of your fancy new ring?" Rol asked from nearby.
Alex snorted, "Yes, it''s a really good upgrade for me considering most of my rings are simple plus one to a specific stat. This is a nice bonus for me." Alex told her before putting the rin back on and tearing into his dinner.
Rol frowned at him before leaning closer, "That Ankh is nothing to sniff at." Her comment made Alex freeze and his first instinct were to go for his daggers but he squished the thought ruthlessly.
"That necklace is just a good luck charm, nothing really special about it except that its old," Alex replied before going back to his food as he felt the necklace next to his skin and not out in the open.
Before the Priestess could respond, Brounom put his hand on her shoulder and shook his head. "So lad, you are Level twenty-seven now and getting closer and closer to Level thirty, do you know what Advanced Class you want?"
Alex nodded and ignored the byplay, "Honestly, I had not thought of it. I have no idea what type of class would complement my current skill set." Alex told the Dwarf.
"Well, you have time and you don''t have to choose as soon as you get too level thirty. Just think about it lad." Brounom
"You can always go with another Advanced Class, like Stalker or Master Poisoner." Mozil pointed out and Alex considered them, niether one really caught his attention.
"I will look up what Advanced Classes I can unlock later. Do some research and ask around. I don''t have to decide tonight and I will keep it in mind." Alex replied.
Brounom nodded his head in acknowledgment, "Well we will be taking a portal to our next location in the morning and will be doing some quests then another Dungeon."
"What type of Dungeon are we diving into tommorow?" Alex asked.
"I would rather keep it a suprise, don''t spoil it!!" Taeral called back.
Alex was taking a walk outside the inn, thinking and reading. It had been a long day, and he needed rest, but the Dwarf had brought up a good point. He needed to research and decide what Advanced Class he was going to take or settle for just being an Assassin. Then he froze as he heard a growl. Alex took a moment and considered his options as he looked around and spotted a large tiger that was blending in almost perfectly with its surroundings. If not for its white stripes, Alex probably wouldn''t have spotted it. "Hey, I am just walking around, not causing any problems for you or anyone else," Alex told the beast who continued to study him. Alex tried to ignore the apex predator, but having a large beast studying you is somewhat intimidating. It made him miss four of his next ten shots, and none of them hit what he had been aiming at.
Alex took a deep breath and stepped forward nervously and glanced at the tiger, and if he didn''t know any better, he would swear it was smirking at him. "Don''t mind Tully, he has a quirky sense of humor." Alex''s eyes snapped to a robed figure that was studying him. The tigers snarl caught Alex''s attention and caused him to release the hilts of his daggers he had grabbed instinctively.
Alex looked at the tiger and slowly stepped back, "So who are you and why are you here?" Alex asked the figure.
The robed figure pulled back her hood revealing a human woman that looked to be in her later forties to early fifties. "Why did you choose the Assassin Class Alex, you are not a cold-blooded killer." Alex froze in leaning to pick up his last arrow. Alex quickly analyzed both.

"My family and my actions prove that opinion wrong," Alex stated as he studied her and the tiger. Against her, he had a chance but with her best friend he had no chance what-so-ever.
The woman smirked at his response, "You regretted every kill except the Beggar. I have been studying you, Alex, you can kill but you do not like it. You are not twisted like your so-called family."
Alex frowned, "What do you want and why are you here?" Alex asked the women as he moved closer too her causing Tully to his but he ignored the cat for now.
The woman smirked at him and made a placating gesture towards Tully, "I go by many names Alex, you Immortals call me Elaine. You could say I am an interested third party in your development. A family member of mine asked me to help with your case since he is to busy dealing with other things currently."
Alex frowned and considered the Divine Quest he had sitting in his Quest Log but before he could say anything she continued. "Before you ask, no I am not a being of Chaos nor an ally of Chaos. I am a being of the System and assist Immortals in their development. Usually, we would not talk until you hit level fifty but your path in certain things is set by the choices you have already made. Now why did you choose Assassin?" she asked.
"Because I wanted to live and kill those who would try to stop me from living my life the way I wanted too.Because I have and will always be alone. Because every time I have trusted someone, they have always stabbed me in the back. Now if you will excuse me, I have a long day tomorrow." Alex told her before turning and stomping off.
Well, that just won''t do." Alex heard behind him as he heard a growl as a portal opened in front of him. Before he could step around it, something slammed into his back and sent him through it and the darkness beyond.
Chapter 17- Temple Aquisition
Unknown Location...
Alex''s eyes snapped open and he looked around at his surroundings. He was in a dense forest with trees and brush all around and the sounds of the local wildlife as his only companions. Alex brought up his map and cursed silently as it showed just a black screen. "Welcome back." Alex whirled as he drew his daggers and glared at Elaine.
"I don''t have time for this, I have to get back and get some sleep. So please open a Portal and take me back." Alex told her.
"Sorry Alex, but you have to learn your lesson here and you need some help. I think you will also be happier if you do this in the end and it will help you overall. There is a temple nearby, get there and you are free of this place. Oh and Tully knows the way and you have to escort him there. Good luck." Elaine winked and disappeared leaving Tully and Alex alone in the middle of the forest.
Alex wanted to scream in frustration but considering where they were it wouldn''t be the smartest move. Then a Quest screen appeared in front of him.
Class Quest Issued: Walk on the Wild Side
Description: Elaine, a Being of the System that rules over Ithea, has charged you with getting to a nearby Temple. Why you have no idea, but the one contention is that Tully cannot die.
Success: Reach the nearby Temple
Failure: Do not reach the Temple or Die in the process or Tully dies
Restriction: Tully Cannot Die
Rewards: 2,000 Experience, Unknown
Alex cursed under his breath and called Elaine several choice words before turning to the tiger, "Well where are we going? Take it slow I don''t want to stumble into any traps." Alex told Tully who nodded who turned and slowly walked off. Alex activated Stealth and scuttled after him.
Alex cursed as he threw himself backward and away from the Goblin. The little buggers had ambushed them within ten minutes of appearing in this odd land. None of them were above Level ten, but they had numbers. Alex launched a wave of conjured daggers at the Forest Goblins and bought Tully time to destroy the three he had been fighting. Alex activated Shank as his dagger slammed into the eye of one of their opponets before Alex whirled around and deflected a spear thrust and stabbed another Goblin in the throat.
Tully snarled and pounced on the disoriented remains of the Goblin ambush leaving Alex gasping for breath from the short but intense fight. Alex quickly moved among the corpses and looted them giving a meager return and little Experience from the fight. "Hey, once you finish your snack, we need to get going," Alex told the tiger who was eating one of the Goblins.
Tully looked up and licked its muzzle before continuing to eat its meal. Alex rolled his eyes and continued to retrieve any reusable arrows and loot from the Goblins.
Alex studied what was going on while keeping an eye on the huge tiger as well to make sure it wouldn''t runoff. So far, Tully was doing what he asked, but it was still an independent creature and Alex was certain if he didn''t do what it wanted, it would go off on its own. If it did that in the current situation, Alex was certain the tiger would die. The temple in front of them was under siege by Goblins, several dozen of them were currently attacking the temple and the outnumbered defenders were fighting back but were outnumbered. "Let me guess, that is where we need to go?" Alex asked the tiger who nodded.
Quest Issued: Tempting Temple
Description: A mysterious Temple that you have been charged with getting too, is currently under attack by Goblins. Assist the defenders in beating back the Goblin attack and they might assist you with your Class Quest. As with your Class Quest, Tully cannot die.
Success: Break the siege of the unknown Temple and drive the Goblins off
Failure: Do not break the SIege of the unknown Temple or Tully dies or you die
Restriction: Tully Cannot Die
Rewards: 2,000 Experience, Unknown
"Ok, this is what we are going to do, you stick with me ok and we are going to carve these guys up one at a time.'' Alex told the tiger as his hands went to his empty sheaths and cursed. Alex glared at the tiger, ''Don''t say anything. If I had a knife we could slowly whittle their numbers down. Ok, you stick with me until the shit hits the fan. Stealth is going to keep us alive and surprise is our only advantage right now." Alex told the tiger who kept studying the ongoing fight and Alex dropped into Stealth and moved forward, Tully silently following him.The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
Alex silently moved through the forest and approached the back of the Goblins line of fighters. The spell slingers would be his primary targets, then he would move on to their ranged fighters. "If this turns into a shit show, hit the Goblin spell slingers first," Alex told Tully who nodded and moved off giving Alex as he slunk through the forest slowly moving foreward. His daggers were ready and he coated them with the Sloth Poison five feet out from the Goblin line.
The first Goblin died without making a sound, the second and third Goblins gave up the ghost quickly as well. Alex didn''t even have to use Backstab, the level difference and damage he could deal out with suprise attacks made it unneeded for the moment. Then they started to notice their magical support was lagging behind their archers and crossbowmen. Tully joind the fight then as several of the Forest Goblins turned to face the new threat.
Facing enemies on two fronts, some of the Goblins started running away. Alex kept killing them as they started to swarm his position. Tully quickly moved to support him despite doing better with his hit-and-run tactics, he refused to leave his side, but it was only a matter of time until either the Goblins broke or Tully was hurt too bad to fight.
Alex was looting the corpses when four of them dropped out of Stealth, "Who are you interloper and why are you here?" the lead man asked. All of them had drawn bows pointed at him but had not fired at him, yet.
"I am Alex and why I am here is a great question. I have no idea. A being, she said her name was Elaine, opened a Portal and pushed me through. Told me I had to make it to the Temple with Tully over there without him or me dying." Alex responded before going back to looting.
The four archers studied him and relaxed somewhat. One went over to Tully, who was busy snacking again, "You keep eating Goblins, you are going to get fat not to mention who knows what you will catch from eating them." Alex told the tiger with disgust. Tully looked up from his meal and snarled at him before going back to eating.
The Rangers snickered, "Midnight Ligers are hardier than most. It can feast safely on the bodies of the Goblins. I am Ithial, please come with us. The Mistress will wish to talk to you." Ithial stated before turning and walking towards the Temple.
Alex quickly followed, "Who is your Mistress?"
Ithial glanced back as he responded, "Eilistraee." the man stated before continuing. Alex looked closer and noticed their midnight colored skin and pointed ears, Drow.
Temple of Eilistraee
Alex nervously walked into the Temple he assumed that belonged to the Drow Goddess. As soon as he set foot within a sense of peace and tranquility filled him.

Alex continued to follow what he assumed were Rangers deeper into the Temple and studied everything around him. The building was built from marble and braziers lit everything up and dispelled any shadows. The inhabitants of the Temple were made up of Sword Dancers, Druids, and Rangers for the most part. Who and what they were doing here, Alex had no idea. "Who have you brought in Ithial?" a large Drow asked. Alex studied her, she stood about eight feet tall wearing a mix of leather and chainmail with twin swords strapped to her sides and a quiver on her back, a bow lay within easy reach but from her stance, she was completely relaxed.
"This is the man that attacked the raiders and distracted them long enough to push them back, Mistress.'' Ithial quickly replied. ''He was sent here by a being called Elaine with a quest to reach this temple. He was accompanied by a Midnight Liger called Tully." Ithial reported as he gestured towards Alex and Tully.
The Goddess frowned and studied him before making a gesture opening a Portal and Elaine walked through. "What is your game with bringing this Immortal here. He is unclaimed by any God or Goddess. He is an Assassin, he does not belong here." Eilistraee told Elaine.
"He made a mistake and others think he would be far better suited with another Class, preferably the Ranger Class. As far as being claimed by a God or Goddess, you are wrong." Elaine stated and Eilistraee looked at her incredulously before moving her gaze back too Alex who fidgeted nervously.
Eilistraee''s eyebrows climbed steadily before she moved and grabbed the Ankh of Light and Darkness around his neck and was about to speak when all the lights nearby dimmed and the Shadow Guardian exploded from the necklace nocking the Goddess backwords. All the nearby Sword Dancers, Druids, and Rangers started to move and Alex blanched, "EVERYONE HOLD UP AND STAND DOWN." Elaine roared as she moved in front of Alex, Tully covered his other half snarling at anyone who came too near him.
Slowly the nearby guards relaxed and the Shadow Guardian slowly dissipated as Eilistraee rose from a crouch and slid her twin blades back in their sheaths. "Well that was interesting, you brought something of another Pantheon onto our Plane. You understand we could use this as an excuse to declare war on the Egyptian Pantheon." Eilistraee stated as she glared at the pendant around Alex''s neck.
Elaine laughed, "You and I both know you cannot due it, bluster to someone else if you are trying to live up to your mother''s name.'' More than one guard shifted uncomfortably at that comment. ''Now Alex, I am giving you a one time offer at becoming a Ranger." Elaine stated and Eilistraee stepped forward.
"That falls within my purview Elaine, not yours.'' Eilistraee stated as she walked closer studying Alex and Tully the whole way. ''Does he even want the Class, he had the chance and choose to become a glorified murderer." Eilistraee told her.
"Look at his Life Line, tell me what you think Eilistraee," Elain replied as she stepped back and the Goddess studied Alex''s fidgeting form.
Eilistraee cocked her head to the side and frowned, "Your point is made, but he still..." Elaine interrupted her again.
"Go back further," Elaine told her and the Goddess frowned and did as Elaine told her.
Disgust and anger flickered across Eilistraee''s face and she shook her head, "How can someone treat family like that?'' the Goddess absently asked and Alex froze, no longer in fear but anger. Before he could say anything Tully bumped him with his shoulder and Alex glared at the Liger before reigning in his temper. ''I have reconsidered, I think you would make a very good Ranger. The question is do you want to become a Ranger?" Eilistraee asked him.
Tully shoulder bumped him again and Alex looked at him exasperated, "IF you had chosen correctly, he wouldn''t be so annoyed with you." Elaine smirked at Alex.
Chapter 18- The Power of Choice
Plane- Unknown
Temple of Eilistraee
Alex studied the forest around the Temple as he considered Eilistraee''s words and price. "Well Immortal, what is your choice? You can become a Ranger, but it will cost you the current Experience you have accumulated to the next level." Eilistraee stated. Alex winced, after the fight outside the Temple, he was two-thirds of the way to Level twenty-eight. Most of a days work with a Dungeon thrown in too the mix. Tully shoulder bumped him again and he knew where the Ligers vote stood.
"No, I am sorry, but I am not interested in becoming a Ranger." Alex said as he turned to face Elaine and Eilistraee.
Both women studied him and nodded in acceptance. Eilistraee grimaced shook her head and Alex could see contempt and disgust on her face.
"I never asked to come here. I have asked for this oppurtunity. Do not judge me based on the fact I will not do what you want.'' Alex told the Goddess. ''For too long, I have done one thing or another based on what other people wanted. So, me destiny is now my own. My choices are mine to make, that includes the mistakes. Now, I would appreciate if you would send me back Elaine." Alex told the being of the System who was frowning.

"No matter what choice you make, I owe you a favor for keeping this place safe. I thank you for that even if I do not agree with your choice Immortal." Eilistraee told him as she extended her hand and placed a ring in Alex''s hand. Alex quickly pulled up the rings stats and nodded in thanks too the Goddes.

I am sure everything will be fine, and the world will not fall apart if I am an Assassin." Alex absently told them. He missed the small look between the two women, Elain shrugged and shook her head at whatever the Goddes was asking with her look. Elaine ignored her and opened a Portal, Alex assumed it was back too where he had come from. That is what he hoped anyway.

"You play a dangerous game," Ellistraee commented as she dismissed her followers.
Elaine snorted, "Chaos is coming and we need all the allies we can get. If he succeeds we will have one more on our side. If he fails, we lose nothing." She told the Goddess before opening a Portal and stepping through.

The Portal disgorged them almost exactly where they had disappeared, Alex looked at the time and saw only an hour had passed since they had left confusing Alex, "Do you know how the hell we were gone only an hour. It felt so much longer?" He asked Tully. The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
The Liger snorted before scanning the forest, "Ok, well good luck with your life Tully. Thanks for saving my ass and watching my back." Tully trotted off without a backwards glance.
The sounds of the Beached Whale Inn rolled over him as he entered the lively place as Alex entered. More than one person looked up but then disregarded him. Alex quickly made his way to the bar and ordered food before moving to a table and sitting down and putting his back to the wall. Alex quickly pulled up his Skill Trees as he waited for his food arrived and reviewed the choices in front of him. The days ahead were not going to get any easier, and he needed to be prepared. The Assassins Skill Tree was oriented towards cousing damage over time, and sustaining it. Alex had purchased only a few basic Skills, but without knowing what Advanced Class he wanted to get, he was hesitent to invest his precious Skill Points.

"What have you been up to lad?" Brounom asked as he studied his new ring with a raised eyebrow. Alex sighed as the plate of food and drink were placed in front of him. He quickly thanked the server and tore into it as he thought of what to tell the Dwarf.
"I got pulled into something that I did not ask for. After some consideration I declined the offer and asked that I not be bothered by its like again. I am sure it will cause me some grief eventually, but for now it does not matter." Alex told the Dwarf who shrugged and accepted the excuse.
Chapter 19- Knocking on Temples Door
Surface- Jagged Coast Region
Kingdom of Rolling Sands- Outside the City of Sholand
1 Week Later...
A week of Dungeon dives and Quests, but he was finally ready to take the next step in the Divine Quest. The Quest description itself gave very little information on what to expect beyond it being dangerous getting into the temple of Osiris. Beyond that, it gave very little information about what to expect once they got there. ''Do I trust them?'' was what Alex kept asking himself as he considered his options...
"Ahh, finally. I have been looking for you everywhere. You are Alex Dumass, correct?" a robed man asked as he walked up too him.
Alex studied the man, he had no apparent weapons, but that meant little and he was weary with the impending next step in his Quest not to mention his family was probably devising a new method to get too him. "If I am?" Alex asked back.
The man smiled and pulled out a packet and dropped it next to Alex. "Mona sends a message. You are still one of us. Ignore the assholes and come back whenever you want.'' I assume you know what it means?" the man prodded.
Alex opened the small sack and could see the Assassins gear and the small ring inside. "Yes, I do. How did you track me down?" Alex asked the man, honestly curious.
The man let out a great laugh in response. "Boy, you engaged the services of the Adventurers Guild and I am VERY good at finding people.'' After a moment the man sat down next too him. ''I don''t know what you are running from lad, but the Guild is not your enemy. They protect their own and do not betray their ranks lightly. From what I have heard, you have done nothing to earn their ire. You have been rash, but nothing that would warrant betrayal or a kill order. You are safe among the Assassins." the man patted his shoulder before standing and striding off whistling.
Alex considered his options and pulled the leather armor from the sack and studied it. It was better then what he had, and he would need every edge that he could get in the coming days. He quickly threw it all into his inventory and put the ring back on his finger after inspecting it for any traps. With a sigh he stood as he looked at the waves of the ocean and strode back towards the small village, tommorow was another day.
After an early breakfast and making sure everyone was roused and prepared for another long day, Alex was finally ready to make his decision. He would trust them, they had earned that much at least. Alex would not tell them everything, but he would tell them enough to allow them to back out if they wanted to, they could. "So lad, why are we out here burning daylight? We are ready to go Dungeon diving or are we breaking up our group?" Brounom asked as his fingers drummed on his shield. Mozil, Taeril, and Rol were standing behind the stout Dwarf. Alex was standing in front of them and they were outside the city and well away from any traveled routes.
Alex bit his lip and drummed his fingers on the Portal Scroll, it had cost him ten gold to get it made, but it would dump him and his party in a safe area outside the Oasis of Com''aron."Not too long ago, I was given a very dangerous quest. It required me to attain Level thirty-two and it was indicated my chances at succeeding were a hell of a lot better if I had a party accompany me. So, if you guys are willing to assist me, your help is more then welcome, but you should be aware, this might be a one-way trip.'' Alex started as he started pacing, ''This Quest has multiple stages and the first one is to fight our way into a place. Will, there be loot, I am certain of it, but there will be a lot of enemies as well and people will probably try to stop us once we get this going." Alex finished and stopped pacing.
Rol looked at the others and shrugged, "What is the Quest Difficulty?"
Alex winced and he could feel the amusement from his companions, "Legendary." Rol winced but shrugged in response before looking at Brounom.
The Dwarf kept drumming his fingers on his shield before shrugging, "You are not giving us much lad? I can understand that, but eventually, you will have to trust us otherwise this Quest you have, might fail. Where we going?" the Dwarf prodded and Alex broke the seal on the Portal Scroll and activated the magic within it.
"Take a short hop and see, or don''t," Alex replied before darting through.
Surface- Wind Swept Sands Region

Outside the Temple of Osiris
Alex rolled to the side as the Hippo slammed its jaws shut on where he had been. Alex threw his hand forewards as he triggered Fan of Blades, the four conjured daggers slammed into the Hippo''s eyes causing it to below and bought him time to dart foreward raking the beasts sides with his daggers. The Bleeding Debuffs started to stack up while the Sloth Poison went too work.Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation.
Brounom roared in challenge as he fought some nearby Gator''s but their tough hides turned their blades while the Paladins hammer seemed more effective then bladed weapons. However the nearby temple had somehow increased the animals natural strength and numbers, in addition it caused them all to have Enraged Buffs as well. A large Fireball slammed into their packed ranks killing two of them as Taeril cursed. "I hate this place!!!" she shouted as she flung more Firebolts at the remaining Alligators.
"JUST KILL THEM!!" Brounom bellowed back as he charged the Hippo to pick up its aggro. Alex triggered Shank as both daggers sunk into the large beast causing its health to take a large drop again. Mozil bellowed and burried his two headed ax into the hippos flank.
''Enjoying yourself?'' Alex asked Mozil as he launched another barrage of conjured daggers at the hippo.
The Berserker laughed as he withdrew his ax, spun and burried it into the skull of an alligator. "Very much so. Plenty of prey and food to feast on around here." Mozil replied before spinning away and launching himself at another enraged beast.
"WE GOT TO KEEP PUSHING TOWARDS THE TEMPLE!!!" Alex called out over the ongoing battle as he saw another group of Hyenas was coming closer. The constant fighting was good for the experience gain, but it was slowly wearing them down and they were only halfway to the temple.
"WE ARE TRYING!!" Rol cried out as she cast a heal over time spell on Brounom.
"What would you suggest?" Taeril asked as the Hippo died.
"We push through and put out backs to the Temple and fight whatever follows us once we get there," Alex replied as he watched the group of Hyenas drew closer and spot them.
Brounom let out a curse before raising his shield and bellowed, "FOLLOW ME!! WE ARE PUSHING THROUGH!!!"
"Push through he said, it is the best plan he said, well that plan sucked!!!" Mozil grated out, they were all bloody and exhausted but they had survived the onslaught of mad beasts that had chased them.
"We lived through it and everyone is alive. I would like to point that fact out. We have also reached the Temple despite my bad plan." Alex told the Berserker.
Rol cackled as she rolled on the floor exhausted, "You are right Alex, we are alive, insane plan, but alive. Congratulations, what are we doing next because my brethren have warned me to never come here." Alex winced and hesitated but in the end, brought up his quests prompts and started reading before he loudly started cursing and kicking the nearby stones of the dormant Temple.

Alex took a deep breath, then another, then another before responding. "We have to get to the heart of the Temple and we cannot die in the process," Alex told the Priestess who started laughing again.
"This place is well known to have Undead protecting it. Even if we get past them, what then?" Rol asked and Alex shrugged.
"I don''t know Rol. I am hoping for some guidence from the System itself or we will have to investigate the temple itself. That means we will be here longer then we thought, but it needs to be done. We are in a safe area, if you want too leave, I won''t blame you." Alex told the Priestess.
"I am a Priestess of Isis. If you can do anything to restore this temple, I will help. You have my word." Rol replied and the others nodded.
Brounom quickly barged into the conversation, "We are not going anywhere lad. Lets break out some camping gear and cook up an early lunch, then we will press on inside, agreed?" the Dwarf asked the others and everyone agreed and started to get too work immiedietly.
Chapter 20- Wakeup Call
Surface- Wind Swept Region
Kingdom of Rolling Sands- Oasis of Com''aron
Temple of Osiris- Main Floor
The Temple was well guarded by Spirits and Undead, most were relatively weak, but like the beasts outside, they had numbers. "We got another bunch of Zombies coming," Alex called out as Brounom was actively fighting a half dozen Skeletal Warriors backed by a Minor Lich and a pair of Archers. Alex triggered Shadow Step and appeared behind the Lich, it let out a high pierced scream is he plunged Shadowbite into its back as he triggered Backstab causing it to crumple to the ground. Two of the Skeletal Archers targeted him immiedietly in retaliation.
Alex dodged and weaved as he danced around to get closer to the Skeletal Archers while the Minor Lich struggled to get up, but then Brounom blasted it with something downing it for the count. "Try to slow them down!" the Dwarf called back as he began laying into the Skeletal Warriors.
Alex wheeled around and targeted the Zombies and triggered Distract causing the four Zombies to slow and stop. Alex smiled and dashed forewards as he activated Fan of Blades, then Flurry. Two of the Zombies went down before the other two broke free of Alex''s distration and closed with him. He danced around the Undead, but they could do little to slow him and they didn''t have the numbers to corral him. Alex absently checked his Stamina and Mana, both were just under fifty percent and slowly rising.
Alex reversed his course and activated Ambush, boosting his damage and speed for a short duration. He was wreathed in a blue and red energy as the Skill took effect.
"Ready to scout ahead?" Rol asked and Alex looked around at all the corpses before dropping into Stealth. They were steadily moving forewards despite the multiple ambushes and waves of Undead that came at them as they continued to push deeper into the temple.
Less then ten minutes later they were back, "Ok, we reached the main chamber for this floor, there is a big assed Zombie in there called Rochaac the Devourer, Level thirty-five with twelve thousand health. I assume he can take a hit and has some ability to regenerate his health based on the name. The room is large with stairs leading downwards in the middle, and two hallways leading off from the room on either side. We have to take Rochaac out to progress further into the Temple." Alex informed them.
"Let''s go check out this room and meet this beastie," Brounom replied as he shouldered his hammer and shield before striding forward.
"Hopefully it has better loot then what the Undead have been dropping." Mozil lamented. The Undead had been dropping a few silver, regents for crafting, and trash gear that would fetch a few more silver. Nothing of note. Alex shrugged as he followed the Dwarf tank, he had no idea what lay beyond or what they would face. He just wanted to survive and succeed in completing the Quest.
Spoiler: Spoiler
Name: Rochaac the Devourer
Level: 35 (Elite)
Health: 12,000
Stamina: 8,000
Mana: 5,000
Alex kept one eye on the Undead and another on the surrounding area as he moved along the wall and keeping as far away as he could from the Elite monster. Alex did not think he could take out the Elite creature without taking a serious pounding, maybe even death. However, according to the Quest, they could not die otherwise they would fail the quest. Alex finally came to one of the hallways leading out of the room and it had a few Skeletons and Zombies. Nothing special like Rochaac.
He continued around the room and checked the opposite hallway before moving back behind the Elite Undead and trying to figure out what he wanted too do. After a minute of consideration, Alex pulled out a small vial and apllied the Deathroot Poison to his daggers. It would boost his damage and impead the Zombies ability to regenerate its health. Hopefully at least was Alex''s thought. After he finished, Alex quickly shot off a message to Brounom indicating he was ready and prepared to fight the oversized Zombie.
Rochaac stood nearly eight feet tall, with leather britches and chains wrapped around its arms that dragged along the ground as it paced around the room. As soon as the Dwarf entered the room its attention snapped up and it glared at him before roaring in anger. Alex quickly glanced at the Undead in the hallway, but they were none the wiser as Brounom charged Rochaac.
Alex counted down from ten, he was patient and would wait for the oppurtune moment to strike. Alex took a calming breath and stepped foreward as the Zombie and Dwarf continued to pummel eachother while Taeral continued to lob balls of fire and Mozil''s ax flashed out cutting deeper into its leg with every swing.
After downing Rochaac and clearing the last two short hallways, they pressed onwards. Each of them had gotten some gold, more regents had dropped from the named monster, and a key. To what, they had no idea, but it had not matched up to any of the chests they had found so far. Alex was annoyed he had not been able to pick the locks on the chests they had found, but they were all protected by powerful magic and their locks were very high grade. Too high for him to pick currently. The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
"Don''t be down on yourself, those chests belong to the Temple anyways and should belong to the Priests and Priestesses of Osiris." Rol added causing Alex to eyeball the Priestess.
"How long has this temple lay in ruins? They have had a long time to reclaim and recover anything within and they have done nothing." Alex told the Priestess before he moved ahead of the party to scout. So far they had found no more Undead or traps, but Alex felt like they were being watched.
Alex gestured for the group to stop when they approached and informing them of lack of monsters and traps but of the feeling they were being watched. After a short discussion Alex took a gold coin out of his inventory and flipped it and pointed down one hallway and started walking as he dropped back into Stealth. The others would follow close behind, but not close enough to get caught if he tripped over any traps.
The bottom floor had a large pool of water with stone columns built around it every ten feet that ran the length of the room. Each column had a torch and braziers, but they were dark and cold. Alex studied the room but he could see no movements or Undead of any kind. On the far side of the room was an Altar with a figure laying on it. "Who wants to make a bet as soon as we step onto the floor or get near the Altar, something is going to pop up?" Alex asked the group and nervous laughter was the only response he received.
''Come, Human, let us finish this.'' Brounom commented and Alex took a deep breath and dropped into Stealth once more before ghosting foreward. The others gave him a slow ten count before following him.
The walk was intense but no traps or defenders jumped out at Alex they silently crossed the room. The woman lay flat on the Altar and did not stir at their approach or even when Alex dropped out of Stealth. She was about six feet tall, dark hair, and tanned complexion but pale as if she was very sick. Alex quickly Analyzed both the woman and the Altar to try and gain some more information.

Description: Altars are locations that you can go to pray to Deities for favors and give donations. Due to the current status of this Altar, you cannot make any donation or commune with the God claiming this Altar.
The Altar was cracked in several places, not enough to destroy it, just to damage it. It was made of stone, precious metals, jewels, and either ivory or bone. Even damaged as it was, it still thrummed with power. Alex studied the Altar and woman using his Rogue''s Eye Skill but nothing popped out at him. On the other hand, the Alter glowed subtly gold under his Keen Sight Skill, but even a blind man could see the Altar was important. Alex looked at Brounom and the Dwarf shrugged as he moved closer.
"I am a follower of Moradin, I know nothing of the Egyptian Pantheon." the Dwarf told him as Rol strolled up and began studying both the Altar and the woman upon it.
"Based on her clothing, she is high ranking within the followers of Osiris. The Altar is obviously damaged but intact and we know Osiris is alive because it''s still working." Rol added and Alex nodded and he saw a shadow shift behind the Priestess and Alex moved as he triggered Dash. After a few tense moments he returned to the others shaking his head and finding nothing. Alex went back to studying the Altar but did not touch it or the woman laying upon it for fear of triggering some defenses of the Temple. Alex started going over the Altar inch by inch and for the next ten minutes, he found nothing but what should be there.
Alex activated his Rogue''s Eye Skill as he studied the Altar, he was convinced it was key to finishing the second stage of the quest and moving on. Alex stepped back exasperated and pulled the Ankh of Light and Darkness off and touched it to the Altar. Nothing appeared to happen, aside from the symbol vibrating. Why Alex had no idea though. "Breath lad, things like this are not always apparent. Priests and secret Orders guard their secrets very carefully. I do think you are right, that the Altar and that necklace are key to figuring it out." Brounom stated and Alex smiled as he started looking for a keyhole.
Alex started using Rogue''s Eye again and feeling the Altar with his hands as he studied the thing closer. It took him ten minutes of groping around but he finally found a small socket and hole. Alex used the key that had dropped from Rochaac first, but it didn''t fit. With a deep breath and crossing his fingers, Alex slid the Ankh of Light and Darkness into the slot and he heard a slight ''click'' as it seated into the slot perfectly. The others stopped looking around and studied what was going on as Alex gently grabbed and turned the Ankh causing a prompt to appear in front of him.
Alert...
Do you wish to use the Ankh of Light and Darkness to restore the Altar of Osiris? YES/NO
Be aware to use the Ankh for this process you will have to sacrifice 1,000 Life, Stamina, and Mana to restore the Altar. Do you wish to continue? YES/NO
Alert...
Alex accepted the price and he felt a surge of energy go from him and travel into the key then Altar causing the Temple to rumble slightly. The Altar started to vibrate more and Alex could feel something going on and he tried to pull away but the next pulse of energy from the Altar picked him up and threw him across the room and slammed him into the wall. The last thing he saw before blacking out was the Priestess floating above the glowing Altar.

Alex came too groggily, "Relax, take your time. You had a bad bump on your head but you did a good job waking me and the Temple." Alex looked up to see a pair of bright green eyes studying him.
Alex jolted and tried to scoot back but Brounom was nearby, "Relax brother, the Priestess means you no harm." Brounom calmly stated.
Alex tried to calm down as he took deep breaths he looked at the Priestess and the rest of his party that was loitering nearby. A couple of Notifications were waiting for him, but he ignored them for now as he studied the room around them. It had changed, the braziers and the torches were not lit, Shadow Guardians were standing at every column along the length of the pool, and the chamber looked better in subtle ways. The Altar itself glowed and was whole now, "So...it worked?" Alex asked looking around. The others chuckled and the previously catatonic Priestess smiled and nodded as she offered her hand to help him stand.
Alex grabbed it and the Priestess showed she was deceptively strong when she pulled Alex to his feet. "I am Ashana Sa''Arin, High Priestess of Osiris and watcher of this Temple, thank you for coming here, repairing the Altar, and awakening me. I have been asleep here for a very long time. I am glad to see a Guardian has been chosen." Ashana stated and Alex looked confused.
"Say what? Guardian, I am sorry but I am not a Guardian of anything. Hell the Ankh belongs to your people, I am just using it until I can get it back to the proper people, which is you." Alex told her causing her to smile.
"Are you sure about that? That Ankh would not have worked if it did not belong to you. Using it to restore the Altar and thus the Temple would have unlocked it for you and the advantages of becoming a Guardian. Now if you do not want to become a Guardian of Osiris, that is another thing but you have to decide. If you do not become a Guardian though, this is where your path will end and someone else will have to take up the call." Ashana told him and anther popup appeared. Alex could not ignore it this time and brought up everything.

Alex felt a pulse of energy from the Ankh, that was echoed by the Altar, causing Ashana to smile and bow slightly to him. Alex quickly went into the room and saw a large ornate chest, he quickly approached it and inserted the small key and unlocked it. Inside lay a small pile of gold, silver, copper coins, more uncut gems, a few potions, and several pieces of equipment. Most of those were meant for his companions but a whole leather armor set caught his eye immediately. Alex studied the black leather with Runes that glowed with a black light and softly lit up the surrounding area. He had never seen their like, Alex quickly pulled up their Stats as he walked out of the room to hand off the other pieces of equipment to the rest of the party.

As Alex handed out the new equipment, he could see that they were surprised and very happy with their new acquisitions considering they probably didn''t expect anything from the chest. Alex continued to study the Night Stalker Armor Set as Ashana walked up. "You have the armor of Shadow Stalker, now it is time to discuss what happened to Osiris and what lays ahead of you. Please come with me, I need to inspect the Temple and we can talk while I see to my duties. Your companions will be perfectly safe here, you have my word." Ashana stated and Alex nodded as he followed the High Priestess.
Chapter 22- Warm Welcome
Surface- Wind Swept Region
Kingdom of Rolling Sands- Oasis of Com''aron
Temple of Osiris- Upper Watches
"What do you know of how Osiris disappeared?" Ashana asked as she studied the Oasis that seamed to be calming and changing since the Temple had been changed.
Alex shook his head, "I know the very basics, that he disappeared over three thousand years ago before the Kingdom of Rolling Sands was swallowed by the sands of the Great Desert of Arakon." Alex replied and Ashana nodded her head in acknowledgment.
"That is all true, and in order for Set to betray Ra and bury the heart of that kingdom, Apophis captured and imprisoned Osiris. He is somewhere out there waiting for his followers to free him. Where I have no idea, but the Fangs of Apophis destroyed the Guardians of Osiris for a reason and I believe its because they found out where he was being kept.'' Ashana informed Alex as they continued to walk through the upper reaches of the Temple. ''Now if the Guardians of Osiris found his location, but were destroyed before they could free him, they would have kept that knowledge in the Stronghold of Shadows. As you are now, you are not strong enough to survive the trials. Come back here when you have become stronger and I will personally open a portal to the Stronghold of Shadows for you. When the time comes, use the Ankh of Light and Darkness to return here." Ashana stated as she pointed to the slightly glowing necklace.
Alex thanked her but before he could leave she gave him one more warning, "Know this Guardian, the followers of Set and Apophis will be hunting you now, they will not want Osiris freed. Be on your guard Shadow Stalker and always keep that Ankh of Light and Darkness with you."

Alex quickly made his way back down to the main floor, the guardians of the Temple ignored him and the Undead were in little alcoves or standing dormant waiting for orders. They were added defenses and servents to the occupants of the Temple and would even follow Alex''s orders now as long as they did not endanger the Temple or the Priests of it. Brounom and the others were waiting for him patiently, "Well, you all are beginning to understand exactly what is at stake. If you want to go our separate ways, now is the time to do so, because it''s going to get harder from here on out and the next stage requires me to be Level forty to even start." Alex told the others who jerked back as if he dropped out of Stealth.
Between the grind, fighting their way in, and completing a stage of the Quest chain, Alex had gotten too Level thirty-five. The others were all over level forty, so he was the one dragging the group back. "Well, we need to head back to the city and get some supplies then we can stay in one of the small villages near Sholand after." Rol put in quickly and the others shrugged disinterestedly in where they were going.
"I think I can speak for everyone here in saying we are here with you, at least until the Quest chain is complete," Brounom added and Alex nodded his head and waited for someone to open a Portal.
"Anyone got a Portal scroll back?" Alex asked and Mozil blushed, a Berserker blushing in embarrassment was amusing to say the least.
"I forgot," Mozil stated and Alex rolled his eyes as he brought up his Ankh and accessed the Portal features on it and activated the Portal to the Temple of Osiris that was outside the city of Sholand and activated it.
Surface- Jagged Coast Region
Kingdom of Rolling Sands- Outside the city of Sholand
Alex sprang through the Portal and scanned his surroundings, no one was present in the room and a few braziers were lit providing illumination for the small room. The others quickly followed Alex as he told Brounom that they could come through the open Portal. "Room is secure, don''t see anything or anyone," Alex commented from the nearby shadows.
"Push forward, we will wait here," Brounom replied as the others spread out to secure the room. Alex ghosted forward as the others set up in a defensive posture. Alex followed the corridor out of the room and quickly scoped out the rest of the Temple. It was a small side with no people within it, but it was well kept. After scouting out the main temple and the sorrounding area, Alex quickly sent a message to the others giving them an ''all clear'' so they could join him.
Within ten minutes they joined Alex and they quickly left the temple behind as they pushed on towards one of the many small villages outside the city of Sholand. Mozil was trailing behind their group and Alex was keeping ahead of the others looking for any ambushers. They didn''t notice the fleeting shadows watching and slowly pacing them as they moved down the road.
Surface- Jagged Coast Region
Kingdom of Rolling Sands- Village of Thistle Wood
The Bloody Dagger Inn
Alex''s eyes snapped open and he scanned the room, between the fight to the heart of the Temple of Osiris and the long talk with Ashana, Alex had been exhausted and had eaten quickly before heading to his room for the night. The others had quickly followed his example. The question was what had woken him from a dead sleep.
Alex quickly activated his Rogue''s Eye and scanned the room before moving to the window and peering out. A half dozen Stealthed figures popped out under his sight glowing bright red causing Alex to curse as he canceled Rogue''s Eye. He quickly created and sent off a quick message to his companions as he made his way over to the wardrobe to equip his armor and then to the door and hesitated. As good as the Rogue''s Eye was, it could not see through wood and stone. He had no idea what was on the other side of the door...
With a deep breath, he dropped into Stealth and slowly inched the door open and peered outside into the hallway. He didn''t see anything or hear anything so he moved the door fully open before moving into the hallway and softly closing the door behind him. The stairs leading down or up were at the opposite end of the hallway with doors lining it on either side. Alex quickly moved further from the stairs and deeper into the nearby shadows increasing the odds his Stealthed form wouldn''t be noticed and activated one of his new abilities, Shadow Mask followed by Shadow Flames.
It was an odd feeling as if his face was just below the surface of a pool of water, yet he couldn''t tell there was any difference too him other then that. Black and grey ethereal flames wreathed his daggers from hilt to points but did not break hisStealth. A quick message from Brounom let Alex know that the others were ready to rush out of the rooms as soon as everything started. Alex didn''t send a reply just continued to wait patiently.
The slight creak of the stairs caused Alex to frown as he activated Rogue''s Sight, five Stealthed figures appeared within his sight highlighted bright red. Alex triggeredAmbushthenDashas he blurred forward, his daggers lashing out. Two of the Stealthed figures were sent reeling backward as Alex activated another new skill,Obscuring Shadows. Darkness covered the hallway and two other doors exploded outwards as the four other members of his party joined the fight.
Whoever these guys were, they were good. Just not good enough. Within twenty seconds they were all dead by blade or magic, Alex quickly moved to his room to check outside once again, but the figures out in the yard were gone. "They were followers of Set and Apophis. I don''t know how they tracked you, but they did. We have to move, we cannot stay here. Ros stated from the doorway.
"Ok, I will pack up a few things, we will have to bribe the innkeeper to forget our part in this mess," Alex replied as he started gathering his few belongings.
"Mozil is already taking care of it," Ros responded before leaving. Alex looked outside one more and sent off a message to Brounom as he left through the window and into the night.
Chapter 23- Infiltraiting the Deeps
Surface- Jagged Coast Region
Kingdom of Rolling Sands- Village of Thistle Wood
The Bloody Dagger Inn
As Alex landed and rolled to his feet he looked around with his Rogue''s Eye. No Stealthed figures jumped out at him, but that did not mean they were not there. These people had played them well once, they could easily do it again if they wanted to. Alex moved forward underStealth, slowly circling the inn that had recently been a battlefield. The others would be taking the cooling corpses out the back of the inn to dispose of them while Alex scouted the immediate area.
Fifteen minutes later, he found his target. He was waiting under a nearby tree watching as Brounom and the other burned the corpses of the dead. Alex snuck as close as he could before lashing out. Shadowbite severed one of the stealthed figures Achilles heel tendon. Blood sprayed as the assassin screamed in pain and lashed out with his knives, but Alex danced backward before moving forward pummeling the collapsing figure into unconsciousness.
Alex looked around and waited, no other figures came running and after a few moments, Alex slung the man over his shoulder and walked back towards the inn. Time to get some more answers.
The Innkeeper had been more than considerate after Alex had handed over fifty Gold to the bastard for damages to his inn and payment to use his storage space below his building for talking with the sole survivor of the uninvited guests. Alex had never interrogated someone before, but he had taken plenty of beating from his family and some of their associates over the years. He knew what hurt and what would incapacitate someone.
So far, the Assassin was silent, based on his equipment, he was not an Assassins Guild member, but it didn''t mean he wasn''t one. Alex flicked his hand and the throwing knife buried itself into the man''s thighs causing him to grunt in pain. Alex studied the popup, the Assassin health was about one-third filled, and unless Alex hit something critical the Assassin would be fine. "I won''t tell you anything." the man told him. Alex nodded his head and walked up to the man and pulled out another throwing knife from his inventory before cutting into the man''s stomach causing more blood to seep out.
Alex looked at the man and shrugged before cutting him across the pecks and nicking one of his nipples causing him to scream for the first time. "Why don''t you just let me start lopping off limbs?" Mozil asked as he stood in the corner.
Alex looked at him and shook his head indicating the Berserker could not. Yet."Sorry, my companion is a little bloodthirst, Berserkers, what can you do? I tell him he needs to learn to control those urges, but then we get ambushed by a bunch of people and he falls off the wagon.'' Alex told the Assassin as the blade moved to the other nipple and sliced into it causing another scream of pain. ''I should say something dastardly and evil, but I don''t feel like it. So, whenever you are ready to start talking feel free and I will stop. You know what I want to know, just spill the beans." Alex told him as he continued to cut.
Thirty minutes later Alex emerged from the basement frustrated and annoyed. The guy was a blubbering mess and had not revealed much about why they were there. Eventually, the disgust of what he had been doing had gotten too Alex and he had just slit the man''s throat before walking off. "Well?" Brounom asked as he joined them at a nearby table.
"Nothing, either he was trained or a true believer. He only gave up his name and the names of his team members. So either he didn''t know anything, or he was protecting whoever sent them. He did have several tattoos on his body and from them I got either they were followers of Set or Apophis." Alex told the Paladin.
"Two of the Assassins were Immortals, so whoever sent them will know their team failed," Brounom told Alex causing the Shadow Stalker to frown.
"I think we need to leave the Kingdom of Rolling Sands for a while and hide out somewhere else while we continue to level up. Any suggestions?" Alex asked the others but before they could respond a Quest Notification popped up.
Guardian Quest Issued: Shadow War
Description: Since the Egyptian Pantheon has come into existence, Apophis has done his best to destroy his enemies. This conflict has spilled over onto the Mortal Races as well. The followers of Apophis and Set have been in a cold war with the followers of Osiris for some time. The Guardians of Osiris reemergence has heralded the possibility of this turning into an all-out Holy War between the two factions. A war Osiris''s followers are ill-prepared for.
The followers of Apophis are few in numbers but well organized, hunt down their nearby leadership and you can stall their plans and allow High Priestess Ashana Sa''Arin time to organize the followers of Osiris. Go to the nearby Caves of the Forgotten, infiltrate their depths and kill the nearby leadership of the Cult of Apophis.
Time to Complete: 48 Hours
Success: Slay the local leadership of the Cult of Apophis before time runs out
Failure: Do not slay the local leadership of the Cult of Apophis within the Time Limit
Rewards: 2,000 Experience, Increased Reputation with the Priests of Osiris, Unknown
Note* Due to being a Guardian of Osiris, and the only one in existence, this Quest is compulsive.
"Well, that plan just went out the window. Apparently, I have duties to attend too nearby." Alex told the others as he finished reading the Quest description and relayed everything it said.
Mozil started cursing as Rol looked around worriedly. "If this could turn into a Holy War I have to report this to my people''s leadership. The followers of Set and Apophis could target the Priests of the other Gods, not just Osiris."
Brounom frowned and nodded, "Do what you need too lass, I assume this quest you have to do alone?"The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
Alex read through the text one more time, "No, but I don''t want to draw any more attention your guy''s way. Head into the city and hide out with Rol''s people and I will contact you when I am done." Alex told them as he started checking his equipment.
"Very well, we will see you in a few days. Do not die!" Brounom commanded him before gathering the others and moving off.
"Ok I will, I am going to head into the city at dawn, buy what supplies I need and think I need before heading out. I will contact you guys when I am done and we can get clear. Ok?" Alex asked and the others nodded quickly. With one last wave, Alex disappeared into the night.
Surface- Jagged Coast Region
Kingdom of Rolling Sands- Outside the Caves of the Forgotten
Alex studied the two guards, they were both level twenty but that didn''t matter if they raised the alarm. From what Alex had determined, there were three ways in and out of the cave system, if the Cult of Apophis figured out he was here, the leadership could disappear. Alex studied the two men absently as he heldGutterandShadowbitelow too the ground and slightly behind him as he crept closer too his target, he would have to overwhelm these two quickly before they warned the inhabitants of the cave, but he could still dish out some serious damage with theBackstabSkill and multiplier.
Alex was finally in position andShadowbiteslammed forward into the back of the first guards'' skull as he triggeredBackstab. The man''s health bar appeared and disappeared in a blink as he convulsed once and collapsed. Alex turned as the man was collapsing and triggeredShadow Stepand appeared behind the other guard before he could shout and raise the alarm,Gutterslammed into the guard''s throat as he triggeredShankwhileShadowbitefound the mans'' nearest kidney. The dual blows caused the man to convulse in pain as his health bar appeared and quickly bleed out as Alex looked around for any unseen defenders, but no one appeared.
Alex quickly moved the two bodies of the small trail and looted them before dropping back intoStealthand moving forward. Alex followed the small path deeper into the rocks until he came to an opening, he quickly activatedRogue''s Eyeas he scanned his surroundings and the opening itself. Nothing popped out and he slid through the rocks and into the caves.
Alex quickly but cautiously moved through the tunnels of the caves with hisRogue''s Eyeactive to boost his chance at detecting stealth figures and any traps. Nothing popped out, so Alex was assuming the Cult was depending on their sentries to give them warning of any attack. Suddenly Alex slowed as he heard a very quiet conversation. Alex shook his head in disgust, the sentries were giving themselves away, but it helped his cause.
These guards were staggered, but one was up on a small platform that had been molded from the rock itself. He would be the more difficult of the two, Alex would have to useShadow Stepto get to the sentry without being detected. The question was, could he do it without the other man detecting him...Alex smiled as his hands flexed aroundShadowbiteandGutteras he moved forward.
Gutter slammed down through the eye socket of the sleeping cultest, the body jerked once and was still as he died. So far he had found and killed over a dozen sleeping forms, but the Quest had not updated so Alex assumed whatever leadership they had was still alive. Alex quickly moved out of the sleeping quarters as he dropped into Stealth and pulled Shadowbite from its sheath as he heard figures walking towards him from further in the cave system.
Less than a minute later two forms were moving closer, both wore leather armor and had odd daggers gripped in their hands glowing green. A tag popped up over each of them, Poison Fangs Level thirty-two, before disappearing again. So either trained soldiers of the Cult or Assassins of some sort of the Cult of Apophis. Either way, Alex could not push forward until they were dealt with. Then the worst happened.
BATTLE ALERT...
Stealth has failed due to Piercing VIsion
BATTLE ALERT...
Alex cursed he triggeredAmbushbefore throwing himself forward at the two men. Both Poison Fangs reacted lightning-fast and sprung away from each other and Alex, but their maneuverability was limited due too the tunnels. Alex snarled as he continued his pursuit of one while doing his best to keep an eye on the other.
