People curse you as you run into them and then push them aside. You chance a glance back and you still see them. They are gaining on you. Someone screams ¡°gun!¡± as you duck into an alley and race into a brick wall. You are trapped. Is this it? Are you going to die here? You turn to see them stopped a few steps away from you. Cars drive by in the distance. One of them reaches into his clothes and pulls out a gun. There is a smile on his face as he looks at you. You know that you are about to die. Options. What are the possibilities in this situation? Your mind races as you list possible outcomes. He shoots you to death. He shoots you but the gun jams. The police arrive now and he shoots you. The police arrive now and he puts the gun away. You choose those four possibilities as you imagine in your mind a four-sided die rolling. You cast your Fate and see lights flashing within a moment of the sound of a gunshot. Your torso sears in pain. You back against the wall as shouts come in the distance. You smell antiseptic. You open your eyes and curtains around you. You lay in a hospital bed. You hurt. You sit up and become woozy, and lay back down again. You cough and yell ¡°help¡±. Moments later a nurse opens the curtain and enters your rest area. ¡°How can I help you?¡± She asks. ¡°I am in extreme pain and I need something for it,¡± you say. ¡°One moment and let me get the doctor,¡± she said. You curse silently that you didn¡¯t wake up before being sent to the hospital as you could have tried to reduce the damage with a choice. ¡°Thank you,¡± you say and continue with, ¡°how bad is it?¡± ¡°I¡¯ll let the doctor answer those questions.¡± ¡°That bad huh?¡± you ask. ¡°Actually you are a very lucky man, the bullet went through your torso hitting no organs. If it wasn¡¯t for the entrance and exit wounds I wouldn¡¯t have known you were injured,¡± said a new voice. The doctor was a young woman, easy on the eyes. That was to be expected with your ability. Your Luck Ability is unique across the Multiverse, and you wouldn¡¯t switch it for the world. Unique to your family that is. There were other magics, but yours was the most powerful, as well as the weakest. Your Talent is quite simple. You have the ability to select options of fate to an extent. You can select four, six, eight, ten, twelve, or twenty possibilities, the larger the number the greater the chance of getting what you want, but the longer the time it takes to manifest. The only limitation is that it must be a possibility. All actualities are set in stone. This means that before someone observes the thing, all things are available to you. After the observation is made, you only have your own ingenuity. You curse your luck that you passed out from the pain. But your Luck stat is still your best stat and it has feelers in everything. This is a bad start to your mission. You can¡¯t save the planet from a hospital bed now, can you? In this Universe, no one is talking about the rock. At least as far as you have heard. You were here for only a day before those people started following you. You have no idea why as they said nothing to you before giving chase. Your luck ran out momentarily when they caught you. You will need to figure out where they are from and why you are a target. ¡°Is there any way I can watch the news?¡± you ask. ¡°Of course Mr ¡­¡± The doctor began. ¡°Oh, I¡¯m sorry. You wouldn¡¯t know my name, would you? My name is Michael Tanner,¡± you say. ¡°You had no id or wallet on you, were you robbed? I am guessing you were,¡± said the doctor. You need to take care of that. You needed a social security number. You could possibly take care of that when they leave. A yawn comes out. You must still be tired. ¡°You are still healing and need your rest. I have the solution for that,¡± said the doctor as he motioned for the nurse to follow him out. You close your eyes and sleep takes you. You open your eyes to see nothing. You hear footsteps though. You hear a gunshot and the sound of a body colliding with the floor. You hear footsteps become louder and louder. You take a deep breath to calm your nerves and begin selecting possibilities. The next person they get to is me. The next person they get to is a highly skilled warrior monk There is a broken guard rail beneath the bed There is a heavily armed force of FBI agents protecting a snitch. The footsteps stop outside of your area as you imagine dice rolling. That done you swing yourself over the guard-rail on the bed. Nothing under the bed as the curtain is pulled back. You suddenly hear thumps and thuds. You turn to see a man with a gun turning to the right, trying to pull the gun from you to someone else. A kick and the gun is in the air.Stolen story; please report. You need a guard. You can solve that problem right now. The martial artist does not know you from this universe. The martial artist knows you from this universe. The martial artist is your best friend. The Martial artist is your brother. You roll your imaginary die and a figure blocks the light. It is your brother. He, like you, are wearing hospital gowns. His head is wrapped. ¡°Michael is that you?¡± Your brother asks. ¡°Hi Danny, good to see you. We need to get out of here,¡± you say. ¡°We were told you died in the army, in Afghanistan. What¡¯s going on?¡± Your brother asks. You stand saying, ¡°We got to get out of here now.¡± ¡°We could use some clothes,¡± says Danny. ¡°These guys are all pretty big, their clothes should fit us,¡± you say. You two empty the pockets of the gang of criminals chasing you. You find a bit over three hundred dollars in cash and two car control key chains. There are six men stripped and tied, as well as the dead bodies of the staff. You and your brother make your way down to the parking garage and use the car control to sound the alarm on one of the cars. You drive into the blackness of night. ¡°Now that we are driving, what¡¯s going on Michael?¡± We were hidden off the road. ¡°I don¡¯t know where to begin. First is the fact that although in one sense I am your brother, in another I am not. I am from another Universe. Where I am from our family has two unique abilities. One is called Fortune while the other is called Travel. Fortune lets us influence ¡­ well, Fortune. Travel lets us go from one Universe to another. Travel takes a year to charge and Fortune makes us select a possibility from a list of four or more possibilities. We will awaken your abilities in a moment. As my brother, you have access to all the family¡¯s talents,¡± ¡°Ok I listened, now tell me the truth,¡± said Danny. ¡°It is the truth Danny, but in order for you to believe it, you must do it. Remember though, when you get your abilities, twenty possibilities can do the impossible but take a year to recharge.and may take twice that long to manifest. Fours are immediate,¡± you warn your brother. Throughout the Multiverse, there are twelve families. Ours, the Tanner Family has three abilities, Fortune, Travel, and System. We don¡¯t know what System is. There are three other families with three Talents, the next four have two talents, and the final four have one talent,¡± you continue. ¡°Pull over someplace, I don¡¯t want to have an accident when you freak out,¡± you say. The car pulls over and you select four possibilities. Danny¡¯s potential will awaken immediately. Danny¡¯s potential will awaken in one minute. Danny¡¯s potential will awaken in one hour. Danny¡¯s potential will awaken in 12 hours. You summon and roll the mental dice. It started to rain as we waited. The drip-drip on the roof of the car was pleasant at first. Then we started to get hungry. Then we started to get irritable. Still nothing. An hour passed. Two hours passed, then four. ¡°This is really not fun man, quit the joking, it¡¯s not funny anymore. I am ¡­¡± Danny started glowing. ¡°My hands, Michael what¡¯s happening to me?¡± ¡°Relax your powers are awakening, it will take a few hours,¡± you answer. He continued to glow throughout the night. ¡°Ok, do not focus on going anywhere. If you disappear I won¡¯t know where you went and you will be stuck there for an entire year. Do something small. Choose four possibilities and think ¡°DIce¡± as hard as you can. Then command ¡°Roll¡±. A car pulls up to yours and stops. You hear the engine turn over and over again without starting. Two of the most beautiful women you have ever seen get out. Gesticulating wildly and yelling at each other, they notice you in the parked car. They get back in the car and lock the doors. They pull out phones and their shoulders slump. You all wait. They get out of their car and approach you. Long blond hair, wide hips, long curvy legs, and the swell of large breasts invoked a response from your body. You breathe in and out as they get closer and closer. You breathe as your body reacts to them and as always you freeze. Danny does no such thing. Getting out of the car, he smiles at them and calls. ¡°Hi ladies, I¡¯m Danny ¡­ looks like you could use some help.¡± ¡°Hi Danny, I¡¯m Helen and this is Alicia. Can we use your phone, our car died on this shortcut,¡± said Helen. ¡°Do you mind if I take a look? I know a little something about cars,¡± said Danny, he continued with, ¡°that¡¯s my brother Michael, he¡¯s a little shy.¡± Alicia looks at you, smiles and comes over. She knocks and motions for you to lower the window. There is a roar of a bear at that time. You open the back door and Alicia jumps in. It is a large brown bear with white foamy stuff coming out of its mouth. Danny grabs Helen and swings her car door open and shoves her in. Before he can jump in, the bear is there. You jump out and charge the bear. The bear swipes its claws twice on Danny and once Danny dodges. As fast as you can you select, summon the die, and roll. Danny¡¯s clothes get ripped. Danny gets deep gashes in his skin. Danny gets deep gashes and internal organs are torn. Danny gets out of the way at the last time. Summon the die and roll. You leap on the bears back and hold on tight. Danny leaps back, slamming the door closed with a kick. Helen is screaming while Alicia is getting out of the car. Danny is near nothing of value. Danny is near a sharp stone. Danny is near a jagged branch. Danny is near a deep puddle of water Summon the die and roll. The bear charges Danny. One paw enters the puddle of water that is deeper than it thought you shift your weight and the bear is thrown over at the wrong angle. You hear a sickening pop and Danny and you get a momentary reprieve. You roll off the bear and onto your feet. ¡°Alicia get back into the car!¡± Danny yells. The bear stands on its back two legs and roars. Danny dashes a few meters into the distance and the bear turns to you. You dash away from both cars and Danny and the bear follows. You hear Danny¡¯s voice after a while, ¡°Michael lead it back here. The bear, running on three paws, doesn¡¯t catch you, and you lead it back. Danny has a shotgun. ¡°Move out of the way,¡± Danny shouts as he positions himself so the blast is away from the cars. You dive out of the way as the shotgun blasts and the bear falls and is still. Danny looks at me with shocked eyes and an open mouth, ¡°it works Michael. Fortune works.¡± ¡°Yeah, its great ain¡¯t it?¡± you answer as Danny reloads the shotgun. He walks over to the bear and puts it out of its pain.

Fortune Lord Chapter Two ¡°The alternator is not charging the battery. We will give you a ride to the gas station,¡± you say. Danny says, ¡°You two have had quite the day, your car breaks down, a bear attacks and you meet us. What else can happen today?¡± Helen smiles, ¡°you aren¡¯t that bad now.¡± Alicia says, ¡°I think you are one of the bravest men I¡¯ve ever seen,¡± looking at you. ¡°Maybe the dumbest. I didn¡¯t think, I just did,¡± you say. ¡°I gotta admit it was cool Michael. Crazy. But cool,¡± said Danny. You all get into your car and head back to civilization. The radio, which was playing hip hop music stopped for a special announcement. The International Space Station has been receiving descriptions of a planetoid sized object making its way through the asteroid belt. The scary thing is that it has changed its position twice. ¡°Its the Arkanian Empire Danny. Their scouts and spies are already here. They are slavers Danny, and they will enslave the entire human race. Their main force is that planetoid, and it will be here within two year¡¯s time. We need to find the family and evolve them,¡± you say. ¡°Can we fight them?¡± Danny asks. ¡°Of course we can. We are the Lords of Fortune and Travel,¡± you say. ¡°How much time do we lowly humans have oh mighty lord of fortune and travel,¡± asked Helen with a smile. ¡°They are here already. And we are not lowly humans. Our technology is the most advanced of all of the slave worlds which number in the millions. We will actually are behind them in one thing, and that is they have space gates.¡± ¡°Ooo space gates,¡± the girls said giggling. ¡°They allow the folding of spacetime. Still, we have technologies that they don¡¯t. We also have a lot of designs that they don¡¯t. For the most part, we are smarter than them, stronger than them, better than them in every way save one. They have eons on us as a civilization. They are advanced though stagnant. We can ¡­¡± You are interrupted by the radio. The International Space Station was just destroyed, all lives were lost. Satellites are being destroyed one after another. There are other, wartime, communication structures being put into place. Moments later arrives the announcement that the country is at war but didn¡¯t know who with. They were thinking it was a terrorist attack. You nod showing your understanding of the tactic, ¡°now more spies, scouts, and saboteurs can come to earth. And we won¡¯t see them.¡± Helen said, ¡°guys this isn¡¯t funny anymore. What do you have on now a DVD? What¡¯s really going on?¡± ¡°Helen don¡¯t be afraid, you are now at the safest point on this planet. You are with us. And yes, we are at war. The thing is the government doesn¡¯t know who they are at war with yet, but we do. And it will be only a few hours before the government is given an ultimatum. Ah here we are, we are entering the town,¡± you say. ¡°Stop Danny,¡± Alicia shouted. The car stopped and we all got out. On every TV in the window of stores was the destruction of the Space Station and satellites. Alicia holds your hand. Helen is crying. ¡°It¡¯s true,¡± said Danny as if believing it for the first time himself. The streets were filled with parked cars and people looking at cell phones, bar TVs. ¡°What are we going to do?¡± asked Helen. You smile. ¡°We¡¯re gonna kick their asses, take their transport technology, and kick them out of the Galaxies. We will then rule the Galaxies through commerce and legislature. We will be fine,¡± you say. ¡°Those poor people up in that station are not fine,¡± said a woman with tears in her eyes. All around us were people talking and tearing. ¡°What the hell? Hey everybody, look at that!¡± A man shouted pointing into the sky. There were five flying objects that looked nothing like planes. You know what they are though they look like curved boxes wrapped in pulsing veins. Three airplanes streak towards them and within seconds all of them are lost. But also within seconds, four alien craft blow up and one crashes. ¡°Come on Danny, we got techs to get,¡± and with that, you jump in the car and turn around. You head towards the crash site. The girls jump into the back of the car and Danny in the front. ¡°Coming with us eh ladies?¡± Danny asks. ¡°Despite the fact that we are going towards the aliens, I feel safe with you. Fortune Lords and Travel Lords you called yourselves. Alicia here is a lawyer, but I am a reporter and I smell a story here,¡± says Helen. ¡°I guess there is a story here. What are a lawyer and reporter doing in the backroads of this state?¡± Danny asks. ¡°We are sisters and we are visiting our parents grave,¡± says Alicia. ¡°I¡¯m sorry to hear about your parents passing,¡± says Danny and you ride on in silence. It is a short time after that you see it. It is huge and stands at least fifteen feet high. You know that it is riding an animal bred for high gravity worlds. Danny stops the car. In the distance, you see the crash of a spaceship. There is a green light shining into the sky coming from the spaceship.This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings. ¡°OK Danny, you stay in the car and protect Helen and Alicia. I will take that guy down,¡± you say. Alicia grabs your hand. ¡°Don¡¯t worry ladies, he can take care of himself,¡± Danny said and continues with, ¡°and so can I.¡± You get out of the car and run toward the creature and its rider. The rider raises its arm and a crossbow folds out. Bolts are automatically loaded and three are fired quick enough to make you breathe heavily as you dodge. The shots are wide as you close the distance. The rider is not used to this gravity despite powered exoskeleton he wairs. He will get acclimated if you don¡¯t kill him first. The beast though is more dangerous. It snaps at you with its bite. You grab its head and swing onto its back in front of the rider. The rider pulls out a dagger and stabs at you. You grab the wrist of the humanoid-like creature and twist with all your might. You hear a pop as the creature screams. Danny is out of the car with a shotgun as you hoist the rider above your head and slam him to the ground with a sickening crunch. You jump off the beast and Danny opens fire. The creature roars and charges Danny while you snap both arms and legs of the rider who passes out from the pain. The smell of gunpowder fills the air as a loud pop is heard. The beast falls. You hear helicopters in the distance. You take a flat card off the rider. You run and jump into the car and drive to the ship as Helen puts away her camcorder. You hear sirens. At the ship, you slide the card in an opening and the door opens. You enter. The door closes behind you. You remember the schematics of the ship and make your way to the control room. You hear helicopters outside. You hear shouting. You turn off the distress signal. You visit the computer console and take the equivalent of the harddrive. A slave. It looks like a bear cub with a work suit on. It was a member of the Kaldone race. The Arkanian Empire enslaved and ate them for thousands of years. In the Arkanian language, Arkani, you address the slave, ¡°Who are you?¡± ¡°This lowly slave is Baka Teen. Are you the new overseer?¡± It replies to you. ¡°I am Michael Tanner and I will train and teach you about your new life. It is best that I carry you, it may be dangerous outside. Do you now communicate with the Krasha slave?¡± You ask pulling out the fleshy hard drive. ¡°Yes I do,¡± said Baka. ¡°Good cause I can¡¯t,¡± you say. ¡°What is the Krasha¡¯s name?¡± ¡°Kinto my lord,¡± said Baka. ¡°OK, it is time for all of us to go.¡± You say. ¡°Yes, my lord overseer.¡± Hefting both of them we exited the space ship to find a crowd of people, soldiers, and the police. ¡°Whatever you do don¡¯t shoot. I¡¯ve come with gifts. I do advise you to move that ship as fast as you can in order to study it. These two were slaves aboard the ship and want asylum.¡± Reporters, including Helen, were taping this for the whole world to see. ¡°Please send your photos and videos now or we are all as good as dead,¡± you say. ¡°Actually no!¡± said a man in uniform, army uniform. ¡°This is now a top-secret site, all of you are ¡­¡± ¡°It¡¯s out Michael. It is up on youtube and my publishers site as well as emailed to several bloggers. The word is out and it will stay out,¡± said Helen. ¡°You are under arrest Mr. Tanner,¡± said the soldier. ¡°You don¡¯t have the jurisdiction Major,¡± said Alicia. ¡°I¡¯m the highest-ranking officer at the moment ma¡¯am, and that ¡­¡± he began. ¡°Means nothing as he is not in the military, my client refuses to speak with you, you speak with me.¡± Alicia began a few minutes of arguing. ¡°Men stop them, use deadly force if necessary. Turn those smartphones off me!¡± There was a phone call. The soldier spoke for a moment and handed me the phone. He identified himself but you don¡¯t know the name. You gather that he is a very important person in the government. ¡°How can I help you sir?¡± you ask. ¡°I want that alien and the ship.¡± ¡°There are two aliens sir and I am taking care of them. Don¡¯t worry though, they will be making momentous contributions to science. But they won¡¯t be dissected,¡± you say. ¡°How much is it gonna cost boy?¡± ¡°Sir, trust me, my family and I can get anything we want,¡± you proudly state. ¡°Don¡¯t snow me, boy, I don¡¯t have all day.¡± ¡°I can, and will, give you what you want sir, but just not the aliens themselves. I will give you the first call on all tech that comes out of the aliens. The little fleshy blob is a computer sir, it has access to most of the information on how to maintain and repair the craft. And more. However, these are under my family¡¯s protection,¡± you say. ¡°Your family? This is the damn US of A boy and we are much more powerful than your family boy. Do not harm my family in any way shape or form. Or you will have hell to pay,¡± you say. You and Danny, Helen who was still filming, and Alicia, make your way to the car. ¡°Everybody in the car,¡± you shout, they all comply. You stick your head out the window and shout, ¡°we are on your side. We are all brothers and sisters here,¡± you shout at the crowd. ¡°You got a phone?¡± you look at your brother who looks back with a are you insane look. We were both in the hospital with hospital gowns, when did I have time to get a phone?¡± ¡°How close are we to the closest family house in this Universe?¡± ¡°Cousin Katherine is two hours away by plane, about a nine-hour drive.¡± ¡°I am going to open all of the family powers in each of them. We need to contact them as soon as possible or they will freak out. We need phones.¡± You say. ¡°You can use our phones after we charge them,¡± said Helen. You start driving out when you pass where the maimed Arkanian was Baka went mad. ¡°Overseer, the master, the master. We will be killed. Overseer¡± shouted Baka. ¡°Relax Baka, you are safe now,¡± you say in his language. ¡°How do you know that little guy¡¯s language?¡± asked Danny. ¡°Yes, how do you know that language,¡± asks Alicia. ¡°Growing up I spent time in a hyper-advanced universe. The Family controlled it. I learned science, history, and comparative cultures there,¡± you say. You select eight options which takes several hours, summon a die and roll. You get into the closest city and first stop at a department store for luggage bags, and then you find a hotel. You smuggle the two aliens in the luggage and Alicia pays for the rooms. This was over your objections. It was the next morning when Alicia and Helen began to glow.

Fortune Lord Chapter Three You wake up to someone calling your name and the sound of fists banging against the door. You get up and make your way to the door and open it. Both Helen and Alicia are trembling and glowing. People are staring as you invite them in. ¡°Welcome to the family cousins,¡± you say as they move past you into the room. ¡°We¡­ we ¡­ how can this be? Either our mother or our father must have been one of the family then. Our mother was a wonderful woman, while our father was a sperm donor. Really. She wanted a baby so she went to an agency, got sperm and was impregnated. She raised us herself,¡± said Alicia. ¡°Sperm donor. One man could have dozens of kids then. The Family might be strong here. However, we need to meet up. In most Universes the Family is small, but I have a strange feeling about this one,¡± you say. ¡°When will we stop glowing?¡± asked Helen. ¡°It¡¯s different for everyone. But we do need to get everyone together and train them,¡± you say. ¡°How do we do that?¡± asks Danny. ¡°Through luck. Now that we have activated our powers, we can begin to train. Four options summon the die roller and command the roller to roll. Let me demonstrate,¡± and with that, you begin to train. ¡°...And practice Fortune often, it makes your luck stat go up,¡± you say. ¡°Luck stat?¡± asked Helen. ¡°Everyone, think stats, focus on a representation of you. The System will take care of the rest. Does everyone see the stats sheet? Normal people have between ten and eleven in a stat, twelve means you¡¯re above average. Nine means you are slightly below average. For instance, I need to eat better, exercise more, and talk to people more, I am deficient there. But I am good at learning new skills,¡± you say. ¡°In a year or two there will be a family get together, we will train the survivors of the alien attack,¡± you say. ¡°Didn¡¯t you say the main attack will come in two years?¡± asked Danny. ¡°Yeah about then. It is when the Family is all together to fight them off,¡± you say. ¡°What happens if we fail?¡± asked Helen. You answer, ¡°we won¡¯t fail, we are the Family. The question is how long will it take, and how much will it cost, to succeed. I don¡¯t know. I do know that all we must do is survive. All we need to do is survive long enough for our Luck to take effect.¡± ¡°Who attacked us in the hospital? They didn¡¯t look like aliens,¡± asked Danny. ¡°I don¡¯t know who they were, they attacked without warning. I do know that I will take one of them, prisoner, soon,¡± you answer. ¡°You have a plan?¡± asked Danny. ¡°Yes, Combat Fortune. I will prepare to be ambushed. I will use a six option selection. I was planning it out when I woke up this morning,¡± you say. ¡°I will finish designing it now,¡± you say. The first to try to attack you will be rendered unconscious by a flying baseball bat to the head. The second to try to attack you will be rendered unconscious by being hit by a car. The third to try to attack you will be rendered unconscious by a powerful blow to the neck. The fourth to try to attack you will be rendered unconscious by water stuck in the nose and mouth. The fifth to try to attack you will be rendered unconscious by accidental injection of sleeping aid. The sixth to try to attack you will be rendered unconscious by sensory overload. Select options, summon die, command roll. You feel a slight pull on your psyche as the more powerful wish is actualized. It will take an hour to a day to go into effect. You then begin to go over what you did with the rest of them. ¡°Once the wish is actualized, you don¡¯t know when it will happen you don¡¯t know when it will come true. It could be immediate or a year from now. That is controlled by your Luck stat. The average person¡¯s luck stat is ten or eleven. With us, our level of fortune is added to our luck stat to make us very lucky. We are potential gods. Our wishes come true,¡± you continue explaining. ¡°Now if you have no more questions, you guys try it. Use a four option selection and make a wish. You can wish for anything, and you will get it. It is a five hundred dollar winner. ¡°Does the dress fit you?¡± you ask smiling. ¡°Oh my god, it¡¯s my size,¡± she says. She walks and sits down, turning from the ticket to the dress and back again. ¡°Preparation is key. Each of you, prepare a wish as I did, anyone who attacks you will get injured. It will alert us to our enemies, and it will foil the attack,¡± you say. The next half hour was filled with silent contemplation. They created their guarding wishes. They created their shields and armor of Luck. When they were ready they selected, summoned the die, and rolled. ¡°I just got a message saying that I went up a level in Fortune, and my luck increased to fourteen,¡± said Alicia. ¡°Me too, but my luck is at 18 now,¡± said Helen. ¡°You always were luckier than me. It is how you survived looking for stories in dangerous places,¡± said Alicia. ¡°Hmn, my luck is seven now. I have never been a lucky person. What I got in this life I earned,¡± said Danny. ¡°Ouch, that¡¯s low Danny. No matter. With each Fortune level, your Luck goes up by one. This is what sets us apart from the normal humans, even other Families. Our Luck improves. After we get to human maximum, divine stuff happens to us. It¡¯s ¡­ crazy,¡± you say. ¡°What¡¯s human maximum?¡± asks Danny. ¡°Eighteen is maximum and 3 is minimum, the average is ten or eleven. Now let¡¯s work on teaching these aliens to understand us,¡± you say and for the next three hours you teach Baka and it was good to find it had an eidetic memory, it rarely forgot anything. It grasped English syntax quickly and went on to expand its vocabulary faster than you would have thought possible. I can¡¯t represent you.¡± Helen got off the phone and you see her face paled, ¡°I¡¯ve been fired. I am so lucky, if it weren¡¯t for my blog and youtube channel, I¡¯d be out of business. We control the Multiverse, or more specifically the Family does.¡± Baka was confused, ¡°what is the Multiverse?¡± You smile as the others turn to you to get an answer to that question to which you say, ¡°It is all there is. It is the dance of exploding and contracting everything of which this is only one. Imagine balloons filling and emptying. We are tiny little creatures living on the skin of the balloons. The set of infinite balloons is called the Multiverse.¡± Baka was wide-eyed, ¡°And the Overseers control all of these balloons?¡± You smile, ¡°No not all. There are countless balloons and we control only a few thousand. But we are so far one of a kind. But we need to get you to the proper people.¡± Danny snorts, ¡°proper people? Isn¡¯t that an oxymoron?¡± Alicia picks up, ¡°you are too cynical Danny. You went to school on one of the worlds of a Universe where Humans reigned supreme technologically by a very wide margin. There was a professor there, Mark Wiseman, who you could trust. Was he alive in this world? Was he trustworthy? You are in Binghamton New York and you drive to the University there, a SUNY school. With the aliens in an oversized backpack, you go off in search of the professor. You find his office and luckily he is there. You wait outside until he is done with all his students and you enter. ¡°Michael ¡­ Michael Tanner? It has been a long time. Sit down, sit down.¡± ¡°Professor Wiseman, it is good to see you again,¡± you say as you set the backpack down in front of you. ¡°To what do I owe this unexpected pleasure?¡± ¡°Have you heard that Earth has been visited by super-intelligent aliens?¡± As you open the backpack you say, ¡°Say hello to Professor Mark Wiseman.¡± ¡°Hello, Professor Wiseman. Fortune Lord Chapter Four ¡°This is amazing Michael but I¡¯m not sure how I can help you,¡± Mark Wiseman said while staring at Baka. ¡°I want you to share credit with Baka and Kinto for the papers you write and the patents you publish. I want your colleagues to meet them. I want Baka and Kinto on Oprah. I want them to be household names. I want to build humanity¡¯s chances against those that enslaved their people and who are here for us,¡± you speak with a passion that spreads. ¡°I want to help you, Michael, I really do, but I don¡¯t think I can do all that,¡± Mark turns to Baka and Kinto, ¡°you truly are extraordinary.¡± ¡°Thank you, Professor Wiseman, your¡¯s is the first species to have successfully pushed back our masters, it was a pleasure to have met you before they destroy you.¡± ¡°They require more care than normal as they are from another world, one where the gravity is less. They need to be carried. They are very weak,¡± ¡°Were they OK on their spaceship?¡± ¡°Yes and ¡­ damn. I should have somehow kept the ship for them to live on,¡± you say realizing your mistake. ¡°Or handed them over to the American Military,¡± Mark suggested. ¡°We are selected for high gravity works. We will acclimate to your gravity in time. Or we will die,¡± said Baka. ¡°We won¡¯t let you die, Baka,¡± you say. ¡°You can control life and death also? You are as mighty as the Masters.¡± Baka sat looking from you to Mark. You laugh and say, ¡°Heh, we are not that powerful Baka, at least not yet.¡± You look the professor in the eye and say, ¡°What do you say, Professor. I¡¯m not asking for miracles, I just need your best shot. Will you help us?¡± The professor looks back and nods, ¡°I¡¯ll do my best. What is next on your agenda?¡± ¡°I have to track down some family members that I just found out that I had. So you must die,¡± said the lead man pulling out a gun and points it at you. A plastic bat, at forty-five miles an hour, can kill a man, and he gets hit in the back and screams in pain. He passes out from the pain. The others step up with exposed guns. You rush into traffic. A car swerves, misses you and clips another at about fifty, rendering him unconscious or worse. The next one gets a flying kick to the neck as a gun goes off. You made a perfect kick and he goes down with probably a fractured neck. ¡°I¡¯m innocent. Take me to your leader where we can sort this out. If you kill me you kill an innocent man. There were four men and he was the last man standing. He looked conflicted. He takes out a phone. ¡°Abrams told us to bring him in if he surrenders. Carlson told us to kill him. When you arrived at your destination it was an old farmhouse. There was a long driveway with several new cars parked alongside, on the grass. You get out and are escorted to the door. Two large men let you in. You follow them to a large living room where you see an old woman seated on an easy chair. ¡°Hi, my name is Michael Tanner,¡± you begin.. ¡°Were you born on Earth?¡± asked the woman. ¡°Yes, I was born in Jamaica Queens. I grew up ¡­¡± ¡°So you were born on this planet,¡± interrupted the woman as she froze me with her gaze. ¡°No, I am not from this Earth. I was born close to seventeen million planes from here.¡± ¡°You helped a member of an alien race avoid our military?¡± she asked. ¡°Yes, but it was not ¡­¡± ¡°Tell me why I shouldn¡¯t kill you right now,¡± she said. ¡°Because I¡¯m not your enemy.¡± ¡°How can you not be our enemy when you admit that you, an alien, have brought our enemy into our midst?¡± ¡°I am as human as you are. As for the aliens, they are engineers and slaves, of our mutual enemy, that I freed. I am here to help you. Success: 10,000 Universal Experience Points, 9 Slot Inventory, System Upgrade Level One, One Life Failure: Death or Enslavement Accept/Reject You stare at the words that suddenly appear before your eyes. A quest, a level one quest from the system. You whisper, ¡°I accept.¡± She looks at you, ¡°what was that you said, boy?¡± ¡°I accept, I will steal a Pintoch Class Mothership.¡± ¡°The what now?¡± ¡°Didn¡¯t you just create the quest?¡± you ask. ¡°Yes?¡± ¡°Didn¡¯t you set the rewards?¡± you ask. ¡°No?¡± She says, ¡°what rewards?¡± Without thinking you answer her, ¡°I got system rewards If I succeed, and death or enslavement if I fail. What¡¯s a child doing with me?¡± Lawrence said, ¡°I don¡¯t know, I just saw him running with you in a corridor.¡± As you contemplate this new development, wondering what ability a child could have that inspired his inclusion on this mission, a thought comes to you in the form of a grumbling stomach, ¡°can you drop me off at a restaurant close to a hotel?¡± Everyone in the room laughed and the old woman said, ¡°nonsense, you can stay here and Sharon is known for her cooking. Sharon is a young and beautiful woman without a husband, can Families intermingle?¡± Blushing once again you answer, ¡°only one trait survives, and so far it has been Fortune.¡± The thought enters your mind, what happens with System coming online. You don¡¯t have time to wonder however as you are rushed into the kitchen to meet Sharon, the bathroom to prepare for dinner, and the dining room to wait on dinner. The dinner was fantastic. Beef tips in sauce over rice with a glass of red wine. You slowly savor the meal not knowing when your next good meal will be. Afterward, you are shown to your room and you take out your phone and call Danny. ¡°Danny I got my first quest. It is to steal a large ship from the Arkanians. One of the rewards is a new life. That was just one of the rewards. I¡¯m calling to invite you to come with me. I ¡­¡± you say. ¡°What the hell. Words just flashed in my head. Let me read ¡­ oh my God. I accept. I accept. You can share these quests and the rewards are phenomenal. Let¡¯s call the girls.¡± They accepted too.

Fortune Lord Chapter Five ¡°How in hell are we gonna hijack an alien spaceship?¡± asked Helen as she, Lawrence, Alicia, Danny, and you sit discussing the subject in the living room of the diviners. I paced back and forth much to Alicia¡¯s chagrin. ¡°First we need to get onto the ship, this involves being abducted. Once on the ship we incapacitate or kill the crew but not the slaves. We use the slaves to control the ship. As a bonus, I think we should make it seem like the ship was destroyed. We turn the ship invisible and at the same time we set off some of the more powerful munitions,¡± you say. ¡°Quite the plan you finally reveal, now please sit down so we can discuss it,¡± says Alicia. ¡°How do we get ourselves abducted?¡± asks Helen. ¡°We will be at the wrong place at the wrong time,¡± you say. Lawrence says, ¡°Or where we know where they will be.¡± ¡°You had a vision?¡± you ask. ¡°A vision?¡± asked Danny. Lawrence spoke up, ¡°our family can see into the future.¡± ¡°Among other things,¡± you say. Helen asked, ¡°What was your vision of Lawrence?¡± ¡°I saw a child running from what seemed to be an alien in the armor you described Michael, riding a huge beast. The beast was slow at first as if it just learned to walk. This allows the child to get some distance.¡± ¡°I think they are abducting samples of the population,¡± you say. ¡°Why?¡± asks Helen. Danny stands and begins pacing, ¡°intel. They need to know about us. The more information one has on an enemy the greater the chances of victory. Thanks to Michael here, we have an advantage. We know the enemy.¡± ¡°What am I chopped liver?¡± asks Lawrence. The talks and preparations went on into the night. You know what, but you don¡¯t know where or when. This is not a problem with your fortune, you will be in the wrong place at the wrong time and join in the abduction. You know from Lawrence that the abduction will be at night. The child seems to be, from what Lawrence has said, about fifteen years of age. You see him running. You decide to use four options. You five are in two cars and first see a huge rider and beast, then you see a boy running. You five are on foot when you see an explosion and a boy running from a beast and rider. You five are on foot when you see a boy throwing rocks at a beast and its rider. You five are on three motorcycles when you see a boy running from a beast and its rider. You choose these options, summon a die and issue the roll command. Then it¡¯s done. ¡°First part¡¯s done,¡± you say as you part is to get us abducted. ¡°As is the second part of our plan,¡± says Danny who would incapacitate the crew. ¡°I got the third handled with four options,¡± says Alicia she will tame the slaves. ¡°I got the fourth part done,¡± says Helen whose job is to make the ship blow up without blowing up. ¡°I feel so much like chopped liver,¡± says Lawrence. Smiles. Lawrence got three motorcycles from his Family so you could scout the neighborhood where the abduction would take place. You also got six short-range radio transceivers to communicate from a local electronics store. You also had six guns of which you for one don¡¯t know how to use. You never fired a gun before, though everyone else had. While returning from the electronics store, Lawrence calls out that he spots the boy he saw in his vision walking into a building. It is a sperm bank, the one Helen and Alicia¡¯s mother used. You all stop and park near the building, and enter it. You arrive to see the young man arguing with a receptionist. He is shaking with wide, pleading eyes. ¡°Look I got my birth certificate. I got my five hundred bucks, why can¡¯t you tell me who my father is. You gotta help me,¡± says the boy trembling. ¡°The Internet is down and has been for a few hours. I would love to help you young man but I can¡¯t. That information isn¡¯t held locally. That information is overseas.¡± ¡°That¡¯s crazy. Why is it overseas? Lady, I went to the hospital cause I was glowing. Here see. I need to know what I got. You listen in on their conversation. You suspect but to be sure you call out, ¡°you were glowing, I glowed too.¡± The boy looks at you. His open mouth and furrowed brow suggest he is ready to believe anything. You walk over to him and the others are not far behind. ¡°It was scary but I lived through it. You will too. I think ¡­¡± ¡°You think I¡¯m crazy. You all ¡­¡± ¡°No we don¡¯t ¡­¡± began the receptionist. The boy ran from her, past you, into the streets. ¡°That poor boy,¡± said the receptionist. ¡°No, if I am right ¡­ if I am right that boy is about to receive a legacy greater than you can imagine,¡± and with that, you leave. When you were on the street the boy was gone. ¡°Is there a chance he is not one of us?¡± Helen was teary-eyed, ¡°he was so scared.¡± ¡°Get a grip people he¡¯s just a kid, like about three or four other billion kids on this planet,¡± said Lawrence. You look at Lawrence for a moment before, ¡°He is not like three or four other billion kids. He may be Family. Family sticks together.¡± ¡°Some families,¡± he said. ¡°Our Family,¡± you say. ¡°Whatever,¡± he says and you continue to search for the boy. You split up and search and night arrives. Night arrives and you find him. He is running, screaming for help. You and Helen are on a motorcycle and you hear her call in your location on the transceiver. You take out the gun as you see the rider on the beast. It has that crossbow pointing at the fleeing child. You pull out a gun as you create four options. You watch as the rider toys with the boy, close but missing on purpose. You watch as the boy escapes the rider and flees into the arms of one of us. You watch as the rider¡¯s mount gives in due to the extreme gravity and falls causing the rider to miss. You watch as the boy runs to you as you shoot the rider and the beast. Options selected, you summon the die and command the roll. You gun the bike towards the kid who sees you and runs toward you. You swerve and turn, rolling off the bike in one motion as Helen holds the bike. You finish the roll onto your feet turn and fire into the beast. It goes down. Another rider shows up on its beast as the downed rider stands and fires the crossbow at you. You dodge as Helen pulls the boy on the bike. Two more riders show up with crossbows drawn. A creature the size of the riders, standing on four legs and with two arms a torso and a head points at you saying to its master, ¡°that one is an alien. The others are from this world, but they are different.¡± This is said in Arkanian, the language of the Empire. You shout back in Arkanian ¡°Warriors of the Arkanian Empire, I bid you greetings and blood from The Family! Turn back or your slaves will revolt, your beasts will die, and you will bleed! This world is protected!¡± ¡°How is it that you speak our language?¡± called the Arkanian Master, lowering his weapon and walking forward. You reload the gun and put it back in its holster, and you walk up to the alien. ¡°You dare attack a child?¡± you scream and charge him, but he dodges under your blow. This one was different from the first one you captured. It launches a kick that you leap over. You perform a flurry of blows to the face that is blocked on each account. The other aliens ride tall on their beasts but do nothing. After blocking your blows the alien launches its own flurry of attacks that you expertly avoid. You attack with a feint followed by a palm strike that he avoids and lashes out with a roundhouse kick that you slide under. You punch, it connects and the alien screams, and backs away. You got first blood and you smile, showing your teeth. ¡°You will die for that slave!¡± screams the alien. It charges you. You dive underneath it grabbing its neck for a sacrifice throw. It lands on its back but before you can roll on it, it flips to its feet. Claws grow out of its fists, and you reach for your gun. It charges you as you open fire. Cracks appear in its armor and the creature reaches you. It claws at you as you avoid it kicking at the fractured chest plate. A kick it blocks. It swings its claws and you dive out of the way reaching for your ammo. It comes at you again and again and you dodge. You reload and fire. The armor fails and the falls dead. The other aliens scream and raise their crossbow arms to the sky. The four-legged creature calls out to you, ¡°you are a mighty warrior, worthy of a warriors death.¡± You look around to see nine more aliens and their beasts. ¡°Consider carefully who you think will die today,¡± you yell back. It bows its head in respect. You nod. With ten plus slaves against five plus a boy, the odds are not in your favor. You consider the options. People are coming out of their homes with guns now. You hear sirens in the distance. You look around but options don¡¯t come to mind as quickly as you need them to. Twenty slaves came out of nowhere with nets that were wired. You were all naked and in a small room. You stand to look for a door and found none. The room was white with a ceiling light. It felt cool but that could be because of your attire. ¡°How do we get out?¡± asked Alicia. ¡°We have options.¡± You say as you consider your options. Power could go out on the ship because of a freak accident. Power could go out on the ship because of a slave revolt. Power could go out on the ship because of trauma caused faulty connection. Power could go out on the ship because of a traitor. Options selected, you summon dice, and you roll. And you wait. It isn¡¯t long before an entire wall vanishes leaving a corridor that goes off in two ways, right and left. An Arkanian stands before you. ¡°Come with me,¡± he says and you follow him down the corridor to the right. You go to a room with more of the four-legged creatures. They all bowed to you. ¡°What race of creatures are these?¡± you ask. ¡°They are Larians, a psychic race that we enslaved several of your centuries ago,¡± it said in English. ¡°How did you learn English?¡± asked Helen. ¡°This is a secret sect of Larians, they foresaw the destruction of the Arkanian Empire by a race calling themselves human over five centuries ago. They were protected by a member of a powerful race called the Family. Only death comes from opposing the Family. You are the Family, aren¡¯t you?¡± ¡°We are.¡± ¡°Not all of you are Great Ones. That one is human,¡± said one of the Larians pointing at Lawrence. ¡°Chopped liver I am,¡± said Lawrence.

Fortune Lord Chapter Six ¡°I still don¡¯t know how you know our language,¡± said Helen. ¡°We actually got very lucky. We encountered something with your language and images and such on a course for the wall of fire around your solar system. We used psychometry in conjunction with these artifacts and learned about you. You taught us what we needed to know to communicate with you. This is how we Larians serve the empire. It is how we will also serve you.¡± said the Larian. ¡°Why are you helping us?¡± asked Lawrence of the Arkanian. ¡°Because if I don¡¯t my entire family dies in the war. I¡¯m not helping you, I am saving my family. But I must get back to my position. You, you will be the sacrifice,¡± says the Arkanian pointing to a random Larian. The Larian bows just as the temperature on the ship suddenly warms. ¡°They have noticed you are gone, it is faster than I thought it would be. I need to be back now and you need to vanish.¡± said the nameless Arkanian racing down a corridor. ¡°Come Great Ones, we need to hide you before they locate and execute us,¡± says the Larian that was chosen as a sacrifice. You ask, ¡°do you have a schematic of the ship, a map of the ship¡¯s locations? Do you also have an information processing device? We need something to display the information on.¡± ¡°We can get you ¡°mind¡± slaves Great One,¡± said the Larian leading us adding, ¡°first we must get you to the auxiliary bridge.¡± Danny smiles. Lawrence notices and says, ¡°let me guess ¡­ you are responsible for this.¡± Danny says, ¡°I love when a future falls in place.¡± You all run. ¡°Why are you taking us to the auxiliary bridge?¡± asked Alicia. ¡°It is from there that we can begin taking over the ship. Tell me ¡­ I don¡¯t know your name,¡± Danny said to the Larian. ¡°My name is not pronounceable in your language, so call me Bob.¡± says the alien Bob. ¡°You¡¯re kidding, you want us to call you Bob?¡± says the kid. ¡°What is your name anyway kid,¡± asks Lawrence. ¡°His name is Logan, Lawrence,¡± says Helen. ¡°Hi Logan, I¡¯m Michael, I never introduced myself. Welcome to the Family.¡± ¡°My mom died in a car crash when I was four, I have no family,¡± said Logan. That was when a patrol of Arkanian warriors caught us. There were twelve of them, in full battle armor. ¡°Surrender slaves, we will kill you quickly,¡± said the Arkanian Leader, so you assume. You pull out your gun, as do Danny, Helen, and Alicia, and Lawrence. They are about to fire when you shout, ¡°this armor will resist bullets. The joints are weak points, joints, and groin. The neck can be twisted. As can the joints. They are about as strong as we are with their power armor on. They drew their crossbows and began firing. You duck and roll, trusting Danny with Fortune defense. With a sweep of the leg, you bring one of them down. Claws come out as you roll onto him. You grab his arms and twist, but he attempts to claw you. You strain every ounce of energy from your muscles as you attempt to break his joints. He resists you with the exoskeleton¡¯s strength. One of his crossbow bolts drops and lodges in its armpit once you roll apart. It faints and you see it sicking out. It occurs to you it is poisoned. It injected itself with poison and now it is unconscious. You grab the bolt and stand to face the next Arkanian. It was odd. They don¡¯t seem to do two on one. It is because of this that they will lose the battle with you, you think. You enter a fighting stance, Single Whip. One arm pointed towards your opponent and one arm back with the sleep poison. In your y peripheral vision, you see everyone engaging two or three opponents. You get an idea. It is a longshot but worth a try. You put the crossbow bolt in your belt and leaped onto the Arkanian, screaming as loud as you can you box its ears as hard as you can. It falls. You feel agony as a crossbow bolt gets you in the leg. You pass out. You wake up in a large room with dozens of alien-looking monsters. You look around and though you see no Arkanians, you see Larians and your Family. They were all dressed in Arkanian battle armor. You ask, ¡°is this the auxiliary bridge?¡± as you try to get up. You notice that you too are in battle armor. Danny says ¡°it¡¯s not quite as good as Kevlar, but better than nothing.¡± You stand with Logan¡¯s help. Danny says, ¡°We¡¯ve got a problem. In one hour they are folding space to get back to the planetoid. Takes that long to generate power. There are thousands of ships and a very large population, in the billions. We won¡¯t be able to steal the ship out from so many of them. We will probably be killed, that¡¯s what Lawrence saw in his latest vision, we go there we¡¯re as good as dead. What do we do chief?¡± ¡°We trust Luck, what options do you see?¡± you ask. ¡°Something is wrong there too, we are low on energy, feel weak for some reason.¡± You grunt, ¡°You¡¯ve been using luck too much. You walk over to the slave that opened the door. She looked down at her shoes. You call out in Arkanian, ¡°We are the Terrans, human beings who opposed your masters and won. You focus on the experience points and System, Travel, Fortune, and your skills came up. Experience points could be used to improve any of them. 500 increased one skill one level, 1000 for raising one Ability one level or one new skill, 2000 for a new ability, 5000 was the cost to increase a stat by one point. One of the nameless slaves spoke up, ¡°masters multiple space folds are occurring. We have battleships coming in.¡± You consider the defensive armaments on a Pintoch class Mothership and ask, ¡°what is the status on the plasma shields?¡± ¡°Fully prepared and ready to use,¡± she said. ¡°And offensive armaments?¡± ¡°We have a wide assortment of explosive missiles and lasers and fighters, but we are without pilots, you killed them all.¡± ¡°OK land the ship,¡± you say and the crew flies into motion. ¡°Landing in 55 minutes, battleships arrive in half an hour.¡± You turn to your Family and Lawrence, ¡°anyone knows where a military base is?¡± ¡°Yes Fort Landers, it is outside the city in Upstate NY,¡± said Helen, ¡°I did a story there once.¡± ¡°OK bring up a map of the planet,¡± you say and it is done. You find North America and say, ¡°focus in here,¡± and they do so. You continue to drill down getting closer and closer to New York. When the map focuses on New York, you have Helen help you find Fort Landers. You give the command to land there. ¡°Alien mothership to United States military base, come in please,¡± you say on the transceivers. No answer. ¡°Can you broadcast a message on all of the radio frequencies in this area of the world?¡± you ask. ¡°Yes Great One,¡± said a Larian. ¡°Repeat this, We¡¯ve hijacked a mothership and need air support. We¡¯ll be coming in under fire. We need all the help we can get,¡± you say. You sit in your chair waiting for the ship to land. A few minutes later a Battleship comes out of a space fold. It begins opening fire on your ship and you give the order to fire back. Fifteen minutes later you are in the atmosphere and the battleship is right on your tail. Your plasma shields are holding at twenty-five percent and you are diving at the base. Your missiles explode against the battleship¡¯s plasma shields. You are doing damage to it but you don¡¯t know how much. The atmosphere on Earth is weakening the shields, but it is weakening the battleship¡¯s shields also. Without the energy for them, you cannot use your abilities. Hopefully, in a few days, you will be back to normal. Then you see a fleet of planes coming towards you. They engage the battleship with lasers. After a moment of blaring laser fire, bullets, and missiles, the battleship pulls off. You land.
