《Reincarnated in a Generic Fantasy LitRPG World! With a System Too!》
Prologue: For The Love Of God Please Don鈥檛 Reincarnate Me Please Holy Shi-
Grant Flincher was on his way home from the library when it happened. He was walking across the street with his headphones in his ears, trying to think up a new idea for a story to post on his favorite site, royalroad.com.
"Hmmm... maybe I should try an isekai? I haven''t tried to write one in a while, but it seems to be the most popular genre."Grant shoved his hands in his pockets, dreading the thought. He hated isekais, but he always liked seeing a big number of views on his stories."God, but what can you do that hasn''t been done before with an isekai? There''s a thousand of them! And writing those boring stat blocks seems like such a chore..."
He didn''t even know who the hell liked isekai. It was always boring and predictable, the definition of formulaic: someone would get hit by a truck, then wake up in front of some goddess, then be resurrected in a boilerplate Tolkien-inspired fantasy setting as either a more powerful version of themself, a little girl, some kinda stupid gimmicky monster, or any combination of those three things.
A notification from his phone drew his attention. He stopped in place in the middle of the street to check it - hey, someone had given his latest story a new review on the Scribblehub upload! He tapped over to read it.
Grant nearly pitched his phone at the pavement. He had spent two days on that first chapter, seven hours of which was just perfecting the first sentence! He had poured his heart and soul into those words! The author''s tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
Readers were idiots. Repulsive no-life dunces. Absolute braindeadmorons.
They didn''t know what made a good story. They didn''t want anything original. No, they wanted the same worthless pig slop regurgitated onto their screens, just with a new name and gimmick.Reincarnated as a Dungeon Core! Reincarnated as a Rabbit Girl! Reincarnated as a Blade of Fucking Grass! They''d read for five chapters, then drop it for the next piece of shit isekai with a flashy title.
Suddenly, a truck came barreling his way. Through some miracle, he managed to pull himself out of the way just in time, stumbling to the road and landing on his butt.
"Holy shit!" he patted himself down, happy to be in one piece.
In that moment, he truly valued his existence, like he never had before. Why apply self-worth to the reception of your little internet stories? And in any case, he had plenty of readers. One anonymous idiot''s opinion was just that: nothing. Grinning, he closed his phone and forgot all about the review, prepared to walk back to his dorm with a new view on things.
Then, another much larger truck tore through, flattening him into a grisly pancake. The last thing Grant heard was his own head popping like a balloon under one of the sixteen wheeler''s extra-strength grip tires.
When Grant woke up, he was floating in a black void.
"Oh, God." he looked down at himself. His body had been entirely repaired. "Am I dead?"
"It''s Goddess, actually." a feminine voice rang out, reverberating nowhere and everywhere all at once. "Goddess Generia, but just Gigi for short. And yes, but we''re about to fix that."
Grant''s stomach dropped.
"Oh, no, no, no no no." He pushed through the void, trying to swim away - as if there was somewhere he could run. "No. No!No!Fuck no!"
"Prepare to be reborn, Grant." the goddess''s cheery voice was unwavering. "The world of Generia needs a hero."
White light flooded his vision. He let out a final cry before dissipating.
"FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKKKK!!!"
1. Clich茅d Chapter Concerning Character Creation

[Booting up character creation...]
Grant was somewhere else. He floated adrift in absolute nothingness, even the void around him having faded away. He existed as a mere consciousness, an amorphous blob of thoughts.
"Just my luck." he thought.
...
Well, "it thought" would be more appropriate, considering disembodied consciousnesses didn''t have genders. Actually, on that same path, just "thought" would do the trick, or maybe even no word at all. He wasn''t a "he," or an "it," he wasn''t anything at the moment. But for the sake of clarity, let''s just use "he" going forward, alright?
Grant wished he had a hand to slap his nonexistent face with.
All he had to do was write a shitty isekai story. Call it "Reincarnated as a Sexy Spider Woman," slap some anime tits or a loli on the cover, rake in the views and likes, and then plug the stories he actually cared about in the author''s notes. But no, he had to seethe about it in the middle of the street and get decked by a sixteen wheeler going way above the speed limit.

Thousands of figures flashed through Grant''s mind in a scrolling line. Somehow, despite lacking eyes, he could process the images as they flew by one by one: tall, well-muscled copies of himself clad in OP armor, little girls, and strange monsters - some of which were just little girls with animal ears.
An hour later, the voice came back.Unauthorized content usage: if you discover this narrative on Amazon, report the violation.

"No." Grant thought that thought as hard as he could.
He was not going to be reincarnated. Never. And if he had to exist as a formless collection of thoughts being bombarded by an infinite row of boring isekai protagonists for all eternity for that not to happen, then so be it.

"Hmmm..." he pretended to consider it. "Nope."
[Preeetty please with a cherry on top?]
"Just fuck off already!"
[Hey! If you''re gonna be mean then I''m not gonna give you a choice!]
The thought of being turned into a little catgirl loli made Grant want to throw up, which was doubly impressive since he had no stomach at the moment.
"Alright... I pick myself."
[Huh?]
"Just myself. Exactly like I was on Earth."
[B-but... isn''t that a little bit... boring?]
"You said I could choose, I didn''t realize I was limited by what entertains you."
[How about an OP mage? Wouldn''t that be fun? "Reincarnated as an OP Mage," nice ring to it, huh?]
"No, no. I just want to be regular ol'' Grant Flincher. Not OP, not a little girl, not a monster, not a dungeon, none of that isekai bullshit."
[You''re a real jerk... but fine. Have it your way.]

2. Fine, I鈥檒l Be The Goddamn Hero
After a long time as a formless entity of pure thought, Grant popped back into existence.
He immediately wanted to go back.
Immense waves of agony blasted through his ruined body, his torn-up throat letting out a weak, gurgling scream. Black tire marks ran over his back in a thick line, every last bone shattered to pieces. He couldn''t move, just spasm uncontrollably... he could barely think through the searing fire of pain... he just wanted to die, he begged God for mercy, for death, to be free of this prison of decimated flesh...
The figure of a beautiful young woman in a simple blue dress appeared over him, poofing in from thin air. It was Gigi the Goddess, come down the Heavens to greet her reluctant hero.
"Uh oh." Gigi''s voice was high and cute, this time absent of its blue tinge, brackets, and italicization. She tapped a finger on her lips in confusion, looking down at Grant''s mangled body.
"When you said you wanted to be yourself... did you mean from before getting run over?"
Grant wanted to curse the deity out, but he was too busy hating existence and wishing he had never been born. He gurgled aggressively at Gigi and tried to spasm his way over to her, only succeeding in rolling onto his side and bleeding everywhere.
Quickly, the Goddess waved her hands. His half-destroyed body repaired itself in a flash of light. Initially Grant had his bloody, ragged clothes back on, but with another wave of her hands Gigi changed him into a simple outfit of a tunic, boots, and leggings.
"You bitch!" with his throat repaired, Grant was able to roar at her like he had wanted to. He jabbed a finger at the Goddess and she backed up, whimpering. "You did that on purpose!"
"It was an accident, I swear!" she held her hands up, shrinking down. "Don''t hit me!"
Grant restrained himself, pausing to look down at his body as if to check that Gigi put him together right. He was just as scrawny and lanky as ever, and for once he appreciated that. The last thing he expected to treasure was the fact his organs were on the inside and not all over the floor.Unauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Turning in place, he gazed around, absorbing his strange new surroundings - he and Gigi stood in some kind of damp underground chamber, lit by glowing sapphire stones embedded into the walls.
"I''m so happy you decided to be my hero." Gigi clasped her hands together over her chest, swooning. "I know you can help me fix this world!"
"I''m not gonna be your hero." he said defiantly.
Grant crossed his arms, starting to pace around the chamber. There was a strange box made of stone, the heavy lid of which was already upturned on the floor.
"What?" Gigi wilted like a flower. "You... won''t?"
"Congrats, you have ears." Grant kneeled down to peer inside the stone box. Inside were a few weapons, but only crappy ones: tiny knives, dull swords, and some fancier-looking stuff that seemed entirely impractical.
"I''m gonna... start a farm. I don''t know. I''m not gonna be your hero, or anyone''s hero. I refuse... re-fuse... to be part of this goddamn isekai bullshit." as he spoke, he pulled out one of the swords and gave it a test swing at the air.
From behind, Grant heard the deity begin to sniffle.
"You... you won''t be my hero?"
"You''re not gonna change my mind by crying." Grant continued to heft the steel blade around, getting a sense of its weight. It was a bit too heavy, so he threw it back in the box and pulled out another. "So just let it all out and then fuck off or something."
"Even after I picked you specially?" she asked through little weeps. "I figured, you seemed to be pretty knowledgeable on this isekai stuff... I thought you could help me."
Grant kept testing swords, side-eyeing the Goddess suspiciously. Was she trying to stroke his ego or something?
The Goddess burst out sobbing. "Oh, I''m just such a screwup! I try and try and I always fail!"
The young man rolled his eyes as the Goddess started to throw a tantrum, stomping her feet and crying.
"Every hero I''ve tried to give this world has gone bad! I don''t know what''s wrong with me... my sisters can do stuff this just fine! All their worlds are so perfect... I just want to make something good like them!"
He glanced at her, seeing her wiping tears off her cheeks with the heel of her hand. Grant might''ve hated isekais, but it wasn''t like he couldn''t feel empathy. The Goddess''s situation wasn''t too far off from his own, he thought, just on a much bigger scale. And really, he didn''t want to spend the rest of his life as a peasant potato farmer or whatever. With a resigned sigh, he hung his head and tried to swallow what he was about to do.
"Know what? Fine. Fine. Fine. Fine, fine, fine." He let out a groan, rubbing his face with both hands. "Fiiii-iiine!"
Still wiping her eyes, Gigi looked over at him.
"Nice show, I owe you a round of applause, hope you get the Oscar." he finally found the right sword, hefting it over his shoulder. "Whatever, fuck it! I''ll be your goddamn hero. Just tell me what to do."
The Goddess''s pitiful expression disappeared in an instant. "Yaaay!" she threw her arms up in cheer.
"But wait-" Grant cut back in. "You''ve gotta make me two promises first..."
3. Screw The System
Swinging his sword around, Grant knocked another skeleton''s skull off its bony shoulders. It sailed off into the pitch black corridor, the bright blue lights fading from its hollow eye sockets. More meaningless words and numbers flashed in front of Grant''s vision.

"Oh my God!" he waved his free hand around right in front of his eyes, hoping the blue words would disperse like smoke. "Go the fuck away!"
Another skeleton soldier stepped up, but there was so much text in the way he could barely make it out. He took another swing, bringing the monster down easily. Of course, that just made more notifications pop up, which made him angrier.
"Fuck!" he booted the skeleton''s skull away, which had come loose after it collapsed. Killing skeletons should''ve been fun, but this was just tedious! "I hate this stupid system shit!"Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation.
[Your Kicking stat has increased by +1.7!]
[Your Skull Soccer skill has gone up a level! Behead ''em then Beckham!]
"Why is that its own stat?" Grant wanted to grab his hair and tear it out from his scalp. "Why is that a skill?!"
He had been crawling this dungeon for about an hour now. Back in the starting chamber, Gigi had reluctantly agreed to his terms. One, she had to leave him alone on his journey - it was hard for him to be patient with annoying girls. And two, she had to promise to send him back home after the quest was done. That was her one holdup, but enough pressing eventually got her to relent.
With that settled, he had set off into this maze of dark, twisting hallways. Gigi had created it as a place for her summoned heroes to quickly level up, so the monsters here weren''t too tough, just generic skeletons with cutlasses and wooden bucklers - a stereotype you''d see in any lame RPG. Their glowing blue eyes weren''t hard to pick out in the shadows.
The white stone brick corridors were lit by the same fist-sized glowing sapphires that had lined the first chamber, however they were far more spaced out, making illumination scarce. Water dripped from above, the sound reverberating around in a slightly unnerving way. Tired of splashing his newly poofed-into-existence boots into the shallow puddles the leaks had formed, Grant decided to try and get one of the glowing stones loose.
Wedging his sword where the sapphire met the brick, he tried to crowbar the jewel out of its setting. It was easier than he expected, the rock crumbling away like dirt and the sapphire tumbling to the floor. He grabbed the stone and held it up as he continued to trek through the maze''s winding cooridors. The sapphire was far from being as effective as a flashlight, but it worked well enough.
Trawling this dungeon was boring. He wished he had his phone with him, but it had vanished along with his clothes when Gigi had decided to dress him up like an idiot. A wavy white tunic - basically a shirt with a built in skirt - and scratchy blue leggings that made his butt itch? They felt like socks that went all the way up, he hated it! What was wrong with just normal pants? Hopefully everyone else in Generia dressed like this...
Grant sighed, trying to count his blessings. At least he was still alive. At least he wasn''t a catgirl loli. And at least when he got out of here, he''d be learning what his actual quest would be.
4. The Reluctant Hero鈥檚 Quest Begins!
Grant had finally reached the final chamber of the dungeon. Guarding the staircase to the surface was a powerful boss monster: a slightly bigger skeleton that wielded a wide broadsword instead of a cutlass and buckler. It stared down at him with its burning blue eyes.
[Pssst... you can open your stat sheet by saying "Stats!"]
Rolling the out of the way of a heavy sword swing from the big skeleton, Grant threw a swipe at the boss, which was actually able to take more than one hit.
"I can tell that one''s you, Gigi." Grant spoke through a yawn as he ducked another slash. The other pop ups only made a dinging noise between his ears, but this one was like somebody whispering the text into his ears. "I don''t want to look at the fucking stat sheet."
[Why do you swear so much?... Hold on.]
A second later and a new pop up came, this time with the standard ding.
[Wowzers! You''ve gained the Pottymouth class!]
"Very funny." audibly unamused, Grant thrust his sword forward. The blade sank into the big skeleton''s forehead, and the boss collapsed into a pile of bones and dust. Grant''s level, which had been at 7 before, shot up to 10.
"For a goddess, you aren''t very mature." he said. "I told you not to bother me."
Gigi poofed into the room, arms crossed and a cute pout on her face. "You''re always bothered, what difference does it make?"
"I could go ''gain the potato farmer class'' and not help you out." Grant suggested. Gigi stomped her foot, but didn''t try to interrupt. "Speaking of which, I beat your stupid skeleton maze. So what do you actually want me to do here?"
[Pssst... you can see your active quests by saying "Quest List!"]If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
He gave her the evil eye, looking past the floating message at her smug grin.
"We''re in the same fucking room, you don''t need to do this shit."
[Congrats! Perks for the Pottymouth class are now available!]
Grant rubbed his temples and squeezed his eyes shut tight. The blue text was still there, floating in the dark. He couldn''t escape!
"Ugh, how do I turn these dumb messages off?!"
[You can''t.]
[Jerk.]
"Wonderful." he quickly regained his composure, dusting some skeleton dust off his tunic. "Just, so very wonderful."
Grant opened his mouth, then closed it just as fast. No. No, no no. He wasn''t gonna do it. He wasn''t gonna look at his stats or his quests or any of that LitRPG crap. He wasn''t gonna let her win.
"I want detail. And I''m guessing you can give me more info than those annoying little blue things can."
"Ugh, fine!" she stamped her feet on the ground again, a satisfied smile spreading across Grant''s face.
The little Goddess was stubborn for sure, but nowhere near as stubborn as this boy was. And she realized that there was just no beating such a hardhead in a contest of wills.
"This is just embarrassing..." she frowned, poking her index fingers together, her eyes flicking to the floor. "Basically, umm... I''ve been trying to summon a hero for a while, to make my world... y''know, to make it great! Bring a new age of prosperity and all that stuff..."
"Get to the point." said Grant.
"Well, you''re the fifth hero I''ve summoned. The other four... they''ve just made things worse. They''re no good. I''m no good... all my sisters pick a winner the first time, but not me!"
"So you want me to go kill them, huh?" Grant ignored that last part, not wanting to hear any more of her whining. Not because it melted his heart or that he cared or anything. It was just irritating!
Gigi nodded. "Y-yeah. I feel bad about it, but, it''s for the good of everyone. Do that... and I''ll send you home."
Satisfied, Grant stomped up to the staircase and began the climb to the surface. Generia awaited him... as did his four targets.
