《Error》 Prologue - Shitty Goddess On an ivory throne, seated on a red cushion, was a woman that was currently ''folded'' over in laughter. She was a woman with golden, curly hair, and with beautiful red lips that were currently parted as she laughed uncontrollably. Her golden eyes were currently shut, tight, as little beads of moisture formed at her tear ducts. This woman was a ''Goddess'' and right now she couldn''t bring herself to act righteous or haughty in front of the man''s ridiculous request. The man, a 25 year old youth, called Feng Long, sat opposite the woman. He was a few feet away from the throne sitting on a similar red cushion to the one the Goddess had underneath her plump rear. He was just an ordinary intern who enjoyed the occasional fantasy novel, played video games, and liked to read. At least, he used to enjoy those things before he died. Now that he''d died. He was one of the lucky few that was chosen by a god to save another world. When he''d arrived before the Goddess she''d placed a strange glowing ball of light into his chest and then asked him if he had any requests. His request.. had sent the Goddess doubling over in laughter that ended up irritating the young man the more he heard that ''divine'' giggling. Finally after another fit of giggling she finally regained her composure, wiping away the tears from her eyes as she peered down at the ordinary looking youth below her and spoke in a mumble. "Y-you desire the ability.. make every woman fall in love with you at first sight?" "Yes!" "Not happening. Try again." "B-But.. I''m the hero! I should have some extraordinary skill." The Goddess practically rolled her eyes, a hand working it''s way to her cheek as those long manicured nails played over her red lips. "You lot sure are strange these days.. Before, if I asked them to make a request, they''d ask for an powerful swords.. armor. Now.." The Goddess looked at him, whatever amusement she had gotten out of the young man seemed to be gone. It was impossible for Feng Long to tell but her eyes, for a moment, seemed to be coldly glaring at the youth. ".. It''s ridiculous things. The ''Aura'' of a King. Invincible Bodies. Infinite Growth. Instant Kill Spells." "B-But that''s only natural! Avalon is dangerous! You said it yourself!" When he''d first appeared in the room the Goddess, seated in her throne, had looked down at him and announced that he was chosen to have a second chance at life and to serve the will of the Gods. With a bitter expression the Goddess told the young about Avalon, the world under her care and its current predicament. No more than a thousand years ago Avalon had been a world of relative peace. There were dozens of kingdoms, and Emperors. There were a few skirmishes, a few wars, but hardly anything of true consequence for the Gods to be involved. One day, however, an Emperor dreaming of immortality that was far out of his reach began to study forbidden magic. As a consequence, a rift was formed above the emperor''s capital, plunging the city into endless darkness and chaos. The Emperor had created a rift to another world. A world that was ruled by ''Dark Gods.'' The Goddess, the mistake the mortal had made, passed down a divine decree for the Heroes of Avalon to unite against the darkness and even promised the savior, the one who closed the portal, any wish of their choice. Heroes came forward, some alone and others in parties, but all of them failed. The blight of that rift continued to spread until an entire continent was soon engulfed. From the rift came demons and denizens of that dark world who soon started to spread across the other continents. Soon the heroes were overwhelmed. The Goddess was left with no choice but to bring in the denizens of other worlds. Many of these people only had traces of magic, making sub-par heroes, but the sheer amount was enough to at least keep the demons at bay. A few true heroes were created from this pilfering of other worlds; the few people she found who possessed inborn magic or innate ability made exceptional heroes. Feng Long was neither of those two. He was an ordinary human with not a trace of magic from a world where things like magic, demons, and monsters were nothing but fantasy. "Nope. It''s impossible. Listen, kid.." The Goddess leaned back in her throne, a long slender leg crossing over the other. She leaned her cheek into one hand while the other pointed towards his ordinary body. "You''d die. Instantly. You think your measly little body can hold that sort of energy. If it was a request from one of the Heroes from the other worlds than I could at least tweak the request so that it wouldn''t burden the Hero but you!?" The Goddess scoffed as she dismissively glanced to the side. This kid really didn''t understand where he was going, or what he was getting into. She had no choice but to explain it to him so that he properlyunderstoodhis position. "Youaren''ta Hero. You''re just one of the ''Extra''s!'' Get it!? Ugh.. I was just being nice since you were the first person your God decided to send over for my request but.." The Goddess rolled her eyes as she suddenly stood up. She slowly made her way towards him, descending the two small marble steps between the young man and the Goddess throne till she was standing directly in front of him while peering down at him. "Honestly, a little guy like you probably isn''t going to survive." The Goddess wasn''t being overly harsh. It was just the grim reality. Some of the peopled that arrived before the Goddess, even those who had the ability to make requests like Feng Long, still ended up dying no matter how ''exceptional'' they might have become. That was because, outside of the gifts and the quests she gave once they departed, the Goddess couldn''t interfere once they entered Avalon. All the heroes that left her throne room were deposited onto Avalon. She didn''t even get to choose where they ended up! Just thinking about it caused her to feel bitter. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. So many potential heroes, who''d she''d given wonderous gifts, had ended up being summoned to Avalon in the middle of territory that was already taken over by the demons. In a situation like that.. less than a handful survived. The majority were never heard from again. What made it particularly difficult was that the heroes were all given a beginner quest when they arrived. They''d each start at level zero and be tasked with their first quest; to survive one month in Avalon. Only then would they reach level one and finally ''unlock'' the gift the Goddess had given them. Surviving one month in a land infested with demons? Those poor souls simply didn''t have a chance. As for the young man before her.. the Goddess was skeptical. He''d probably only survive if he ended up appearing in the safest city in Avalon. Suddenly the Goddess stepped back and an ornate table appeared between the two of them. On top of the table was an ancient and complex looking map. From Feng Long''s kneeling position, he could see just the tidbits but, it didn''t help him much. The language was completely foreign and from the landscape of the map it was obviously nothing like the world he''d left behind. "Stand up already! Sheesh.." The Goddess looked down at him with cold eyes, and while conflicted about the arrangement he inevitably nodded his head and stood up. His eyes immediately darting over the map to find, to his disappointment, that nothing on the map made sense. Even worse, it seemed like everything on the map was moving. "Put your hand on the map." The young man reluctantly put his hand on the map. Just as his fingers firmly pressed into the ancient scroll, he felt some sort of strange ''suction'' force trying to draw him into the map. "Don''t forget to check your status!" The Goddess coldly reminded while snapping her fingers. Suddenly the suction force from the map grew infinitely stronger. Within seconds the young man was gone, completely pulled into the map. Once he was gone the Goddess gave a relievedsighwhile peering down at the map. For a brief moment she pondered where the strange man might end up but in the end she dismissed the thought and started mumbling to herself. "Now to decide his pa-.." Before she could cancel the contract between herself and the young man, however, the Goddess'' head glanced up towards the sky. Those perfect lips frowned, then startedstompinginto the ground, before she yelled up into the air. "Ugh! Fine! We''ll leave it to fate.." "It''s not like he''s going to get a better path than one I would give." The Goddess was still staring at the sky, a fist raised in the air violently shaking, while she cursed the young man that had just left. "Hopefully he ends up a stinky farmer!" Feng Long''s body dropped onto the cold, snowy, floor. The moment his body made contact with the snow he involuntarily shivered and grabbed at his arms. The shirt he was wearing, those thin slacks, provided almost no protection from the cold. Right beside him, landing without even a thud, in the snow was an ornate looking amulet. A golden plate with a leather string around it that gleamed next to the snow. "Could have at least dropped me on my feet.." Feng Long grumbled and stood up, his backside now slightly drenched from the snow which only made getting warm all the more difficult. He tried not to curse out the Goddess as he started to glance around at his surroundings. A thick forest that was covered in snow. He could spot some hedges and what looked like a rabbit. It didn''t seem like the worst place to be deposited into Avalon.. still the freezing cold filled him with irritation and his now wet clothing only made him frustrated. In his frustration Fen Long kicked the nearest tree, as hard as he could. The tree violently shook, far more than Feng Long expected, as several dozen pockets of snow fell from the branches andcoveredhis body along with the ground around him.. including that ornate amulet-resembled plate of gold. But Feng Long, in that moment, was trying his best not to curse inside his little burrow of snow. After digging himself out of the small hill of snow Feng Long took another glance at his surroundings and couldn''t help but sigh. If there had been a city in the horizon, or even a village, he might have an idea of where to go. Even if there had been a demon in the distance it would have at least given him a direction not to go. But in the middle of a forest of snow? Feng Long had absolutely no idea where to head. It was only after pondering for a minute or two that he was reminded of the Goddess parting words. ''Don''t forget to check your status!'' He needed to check his status. He''d read plenty of books like this before so he started going through the list of what might trigger his status to appear. He thought the word. Multiple times. Practically screaming it in his head. He saying it out loud, screaming it out, to no avail. Then he started singing the word.. before glancing around in silent shame. His desperation only grew as his ''status'' remained elusive. He started tapping parts of his body. His forehead. His chest. His arms. Eventually resorting to more ridiculous methods. He even shamefully tapped his face, his crotch, and his ass. All to no avail. Furious, Feng Long stared up at the sky and started to curse as loud as he could. "What sort of bullshit is this!? You shitty Goddess! At least explain things properly!" After shouting a violent storm of curses up at the sky, becoming more frustrated with the lack of response, his gleeful ''venting'' was cut short by an ominous roar that shook the very ground. Momentarily distracted by the roar.. he didn''t notice the tree''s above him shaking as the snow piled up on the rest of the tree''s soon spilled onto the ground; completely burying Feng Long under another hill of snow. Chapter 1 - Unexpected Encounter 1 It wasn''t Feng Long frantically digging hands that emerged him from the snow but the sound of another roar that caused those raised peaks of snow slowly started to flatten out which allowed him to emerge from those ''hills'' of snow. It took him a while to find his footing. His legs continually burying themselves in that loose snow beneath him. That flimsy amulet that was buried under a pile of snow, would remain there. Hidden away for the time being. While Feng Long eventually got over his frustration of the missing status window, he reluctantly decided to start making his way towards the sound of roaring. He tread through the snow, loose snow scattered everywhere thanks to the constant roaring in the distance. It wasn''t like he had anywhere better to go. With little to no protection from the cold Feng Long knew he''d be in serious trouble once it got dark. He reasoned that could delay setting up camp by an hour. An hour would be enough to satisfy his curiosity and after that he could start gathering wood for a fire. It would probably take him the better part of the night to get a fire started. If he could get a fire started. Feng Long had no illusion about what would happen if he didn''t get a fire started. He knew he''d be nothing but a corpse buried under snow. As he made his way through the forest, stepping through the loose snow, he got a much better sense of what was safe to step into and what would sink him into the snow. Not long after that his pace started to pick up. Though it was hard not to notice the rush of critters that were headed in the opposite direction. A stampede of deer''s, dashing and jumping rabbits, even the birds in their cawed and squealed as they flew away from the source of the roaring. Out of all the thousands of places that Feng Long could have landed, the Goddess could never have imagined where Feng Long would end up. In comparison to some unfortunate Heroes, who ended up in the lion''s den and fought wave after wave of demons while under leveled and lacking their gifts, Feng Long was certainly in a better place compared to those poor souls. But where he was just wasn''t any better. He wasn''t anywhere near those ''safe'' territories. Territories devoid of fighting and demons. No. Even if he''d been thrust into the middle of a battlefield it still would have been better than the place that Feng Long ended up. Then again there was simply no way that the Goddess could have known where he''d ended up. The Goddess couldn''t just arbitrarily check in on her ''heroes'' either. The only time they could interact with the heroes was through the various temples across Avalon, and when the heroes completed the quests they''d been given. So there was no way for the Goddess to know that Feng Long had ended up in a place even a Goddess like her would be hesitant to enter. He kept making his way through the snow, through that thicket of leaves and branches as the forest condescend, before Feng Long suddenly found himself entering into an inexplicable clearing as the beating of snow across his face came to an abrupt end. As he stepped into the clearing the ground beneath his feet wasn''t compacted snow but burned and scorched ground. In front of him that thicket of tree''s had been burned to a crisp with nothing but the stumps left.. though obscured by ash. The floor was utterly littered with burnt corpses. The corpses were utterly unrecognizable, only charred bone, but from that alone he could gleam that some of the corpses were anything other than human. But the scorched floor, littered with corpses, was hardly the thing to focus on. Feng Long had his gaze pointed up, towards the sky. Where two impossibly large creatures were currently locked together, spitting flames, their large wings extended and swaying as the beasts continued to attack without care. One was pure black with red eyes. The other white with blue eyes. Two dragons. Feng Long stepped back, out of the open clearing, huddling behind a tree nearest to the clearing and easing down so that he wasn''t in clear view. His eyes focused on the sight before him before he watched a stray blast of fire, from the black dragon, shoot out as that blazing breath suddenly landed on an area thicket and trees. Those thick trunks, the entire patch of trees, was incinerated into nothing but ash. His face paled, imagining what his fate would be if he was unfortunate enough to be struck by such a ferocious blast of fire. There would be nothing left of him other than a pile of ash and charred boned. Eventually his eyes tore away from the dragons, to the ashy field of bones and dead. He glanced across the various items scattered around the field. Pieces of armor and weapon were strewn about. The armor looked mostly burned and damaged. While the weapons, no doubt from the heat of a dragon''s breath, were warped beyond recognition. There were a few items that stood out though. A piece of armor that was glowing a faint blue, a black hammer that was lodged into the ground, and a white longsword that seemed to be impaling two separate skeletons Their were other items that caught his attention.. but Feng Long didn''t dare step into that clearing of death and risk being incinerated by a stray blast of fire. He knew he should have left the clearing behind, that doing anything other than leaving was a risk. But, when he was about to put distance between him and the two beasts battling in the sky, his eyes caught the glint of another weapon. It could just barely be seen. It was just on the outer edge of the clearing. No more than fifty feet. Feng Long hesitated, for a moment, before slowly making his way out of the clearing and approaching that obscured object. He kept a wary glance towards the sky, focused on the dragons, incase any stray blasts of fire were let loose in his direction. Forty feet. Thirty feet. Twenty feet. Ten feet. It was at ten feet that Feng Long broke into a sprint, arriving at the charred corpse, and practically stumbled as he fell down and started grabbing at the corpse. It took almost all his strength to roll that charred body over. The person was nothing more than burned flesh, charred bone. Feng Long couldn''t make out any distinguishing features. But what he was focused on wasn''t the dead body but the weapon in the corpses hand. A long axe with a silver-blueish head and a black handle. "I''m sorry, friend." Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon. Feng Long grabbed the butt of the axe and pulled, only to find the axe wouldn''t budge. He grabbed hold of the axe with both hands. He tugged on it harder and harder until he suddenly flew back, falling on top of another corpse, with the axe in hand. "Haha! Yes!" He let out a triumphant shout, filled with glee, as he raised the axe in hand. Then, immediately after, his face went pale as he looked up to see that both the black and white dragon were staring at him with eyes filled with intent. The Black Dragon''s mouth opened, but what came out wasn''t a roar. Whatever it was, Feng Long couldn''t understand a bit of what she was saying. Nor did he care to find out. The moment he noticed the two dragons glaring at him Feng Long broke out into a sprint to the tree line. At the same time the Black Dragon stopped speaking and instead let out another roar as a large ball of fire, coated in black, was shot after the fleeing Feng Long. "Oh no.. no no no." Feng Long turned around to see that enormous ball of fire headed towards him. Immediately he picked up his pace, frantically running as fast as his legs would carry him. What Feng Long didn''t see, as he sprinted away like a mad man, was the White Dragon flying in front of the ball of fire and using its large wings to deflect the ball of flame. All Feng Long heard was the explosion as the ball of flame hit the ground.. and even though it wasn''t near him the aftershock of the blast was enough to lift him off his wave and send him flying through the air. He flew straight into a tree. His torso slamming into the trunk and causing Feng Long to gasp for air. He tasted iron in his mouth and after slumping at the base of the tree he started to spit blood. His body having grown pale, almost alarmingly fast. He forced himself to keep moving though, axe in hand, to put as much distance between himself and the clearing. He could still hear the roaring of the two beasts, while the forest and ground continued to shake from their destructive battle. After limping some distance away, still plunged into that thick forest, Feng Long finally slumped against the base of a tree and took a weary breath. Feng Long was surprised to still be standing. The pain from slamming into the tree had been overwhelming. He''d never felt a pain anywhere as intense as that. But, even if he''d been limping, he''d managed to walk away from it. He could hardly believe it. He could only imagine what would have happened if he''d been even a foot closer to that fireball.. let alone if the blast had hit him square on. Eventually Feng Long managed to pull himself to his feet, after that brief respite, and cast another glance towards the clearing. A reasonable person would have headed as far away from the clearing, and the two dragons, as possible. But that wasn''t what Feng Long had in mind. Feng Long had no confidence that he''d be able to start a fire. But, in the crater from that explosion, there was bound to be a fresh fire or two. If he left and tried making a campfire only to fail then he would, no doubt, end up freezing to death. Then that ''Shitty Goddess'' would have been totally justified in her evaluation of him. That thought irked him more than he cared to admit. He wasn''t going to let that ''Shitty Goddess'' have the satisfaction of knowing he''d died without even making it to level 1. If we going to die. It wasn''t going to be on the first day in this new world. "How am I going to survive a month.." Feng Long frowned and glanced towards the new crater that had formed. "Worry about that later.. first. A fire." Without a fire he would freeze to death. With a fire.. he''d probably still be cold. With no protection from the cold, no warm clothes, he was bound to get sick after a week. But that was a problem for later. He set the axe down at the base of the tree, wiping off the bits of snow that were on him, before Feng Long began making his way towards the crater. The snow around the crater was already starting to melt. Thing streams of water slowly dribbled down into the crater, making little pools. The center of the crater was utterly vaporized from the dragons'' breath. But by making his way around the edge of the crater he was able to find a few tree''s that had been grazed by the ball of flame before it imploded. Burnt branches and twigs layered the ground around the tree. Feng gathered a couple of those branches, holding them at the end, and carefully carrying them away from the crater. After a couple of minutes, he''d gathered enough additional pieces of wood to create a make-shift fire. At least one that he didn''t have to be worried about going out anytime soon. But little trigs and branches wouldn''t last through the night. He at least needed a couple of logs of wood. Luckily, Feng long had an axe that would help him chop down a tree. He reasoned that a single tree would be more than enough firewood to last a month. In his opinion, the hour or two of effort would definitely be worth it Feng Long reached the black axe, getting a firm grip of the knob, before he started making his way towards the tree with the thinnest trunk. It didn''t take him long to find one that he liked. "Alright.. let''s see what I almost died for." Feng Long muttered the words while drawing back the axe. He swung the axe, with as much force as he could. His eyes went wide, however, as the blade hit the tree and sliced clean through the trunk. There was no resistance from the tree, at all. Feng Long was so shocked that he forgot to steady himself after the swing. His body following through with the swing and he was soon buried face-first in snow. He''d lost count of how many times he''d ended up in the snow and he was really getting sick of it. Just as he was about to pull himself to his feet, to push over the tree that was still standing up straight, words appeared in his vision. [Warning. All stamina has been consumed. ''Exhausted'' state will be applied in 5 seconds.] [5¡4¡] Feng Longs brow furrowed at the words. [3¡2¡] ''Exhausted?'' [1] Before he had the chance to think about what the words meant, or even be excited that there seemed to be some sort of system, his vision was already going dark. Chapter 2 - Unexpected Encounter 2 [Warning! Hunger is below threshold] [Starvation (Minor) debuff has been acquired] [Fatigue (Minor) debuff has been acquired] [Frozen (Minor) debuff has been acquired] [Congratulations! ''Exhausted'' state removed] Feng Long woke up to find the various text obscuring his vision. The momentary fogginess of his mind soon dissipated and instead he was overwhelmed with the painful rumbling of his stomach. His limbs were stiff. His body almost frozen to the touch. The sky had already started to dim and even the sound of roaring in the distance was gone. The only light was from campfire he''d ''established'' before losing consciousness. Unable to stand up Feng Long began to drag himself towards the fire only to collapse near it. The fire had already started to go out. The bits of twigs and branches he''d started the fire with were mostly ash. He had no idea how long he''d been out for but he was thankful that the fire was still going. Even if it was a pitiful fire. Every few minutes he would try to pick himself up from the ground only to find his body was still stiff and unwilling to cooperate. Feng Long was feeling resentful and bitter. The axe he''d almost died to acquire was amazing, it had cut through the tree like it was a piece of paper, but the ''Exhausted'' state afterwards had terrified Feng Long. He had no idea if the axe was the cause but he was hesitant to use it again. Especially when so much time had been wasted and he was no on the verge of dying because he''d taken a dirt nap in the snow. Was he going to die from freezing to death? Surely, he wouldn''t be the first Hero to die like this. Right? He could already hear that ''Shitty Goddess''s'' laughter when she found out he''d died of freezing, or starvation. [Congratulations! ''Frozen(Minor)'' debuff has been lost] Feng Long had been laying by the fire for more than twenty minutes when the next text finally sprung into his field of vision. "No way.." Feng long muttered as he began to stretch his limbs, finding that they were cooperating with him once again. Gradually he lifted himself up, to his feet, peering down at the fire. The reason his entire body had been stiff and he''d been forced to drag himself across the ground was all because of the ''Frozen(Minor)'' debuff!? "That''s.. absurd." If a ''Minor'' debuff had taken so much out of him what would have happened if it had been worse? Feng Long didn''t know what grades the debuffs had but, surely, if there was a ''Minor'' there had to be a ''Major'' debuff as well? What would that mean? Would he be a solid statue of ice unable to move or help himself? The very thought caused him to go pale, his back instantly drenching with sweat as he remained the pain of his limbs being stiff and the fear of freezing to death. "Too s-scary.." It was practically a cheat. He had no way of resisting the minor debuff and the moment it fell on him, or anything worse, almost his entire body would stiffen up and no longer cooperate? Didn''t that mean that the entire area was a death trap? He wanted to curse the Goddess until he went blue in the face but there was just no time! His face contorted as he felt a wave of hunger pangs. Feng Long got to his feet started to pace around, the light bit of movement only helping briefly alleviate pangs of hunger. Then there was the fire. It was almost out. After experiencing just how terrifying the cold could be, especially if he was put in that wretched ''Frozen'' state.. the fire was just as much of a priority to him. Feng Long reluctantly tore himself away from the fire and made his way back towards the tree he''d cut through. The axe was still laying where he''d dropped it when he''d fallen unconscious but Feng Long was reticent about touching such a dangerous weapon. He looked over the trunk of the tree, finding the razon thin cut that the entire tree seemed balanced on. He pushed both hands against the trunk of the tree and started to push. It held firmly, at first, but with every shove from Feng Long the tree creaked before finally giving way and tipping towards the side. There was a crash of branches from all around as the large lumber came toppling down and broke the branches of opposing trees. Feng Long had a satisfied smile on his face as he began moving towards the felled top of the tree. He would have cut through the trunk and turned the tree into large pieces of log and timber. But there was no way Feng Long was going to risk using the axe. Not until he was certain that there was no immediate danger and he could afford to go into the ''Exhausted'' state. So instead he just tore off branches and twigs from the felled tree. He made over a dozen piles of small wood that he could periodically feed to the fire. After feeding an entire pile of sticks to the dimming embers the fire was now large and inviting. Feng Long decided to take a short rest by the flame, long enough to warm himself up, before he''d start making his way through the forest. He still needed to find something to eat if he wasn''t going to starve. Logically Feng Long knew that as long as he had water, he would have been able to last a few days without food. After experiencing the effects of ''Frozen(Minor)'' Feng Long was afraid of having the ''Starvation(Minor)'' debuff progress. Already the hunger pangs were gradually increasing in intensity and even the simple act of breaking branches off the felled tree had left him tired and sore. After another five minutes around the roaring fire a new set of words appeared in his vision. [Warm (Minor) buff has been acquired] Just as the text appeared in his vision Feng Long body felt a bit lighter. Much of the stiffness from the cold was gone. Even the cold breeze had little effect on him compared to when he''d first arrived in the snowy forest. ''Does this mean I can get a greater buff by building a larger fire?'' He thought while mulling over the text that had started to fade from his vision. Feng Long cast his gaze towards the piles of twigs and branches he''d created. An eager expression on his lips to test the theory.. which immediately dimmed as he started to mumble to himself. "No point in being warm if I''m starving.." Feng Long reluctantly looked out towards the forest before making his way over to one of the piles he created. He grabbed a rather small branch from the pile, wrapping some of the leaves around the thicker end, and made his way back to the fire. He let the end of the branch like a make-shift torch and then started to make his way through the dim trees. After walking for some distance in one direction he glanced back, pleased to see that his fire created a decent source of light that would let him find his way back. Though he had to be mindful about not going to far away from the fire and that he didn''t end up losing track of where he was lest the light be obscured from his vision. He''d have to thick of some way to mark the trees so that it would be easier to find his way back. He immediately thought of the axe, before dismissing the idea. The axe was sharp enough to fell an entire tree with little to no effort. If he accidently ended up cutting down another tree and had the misfortune of activating that exhausted state he would only be bringing about disaster. He''d originally thought that the axe was his jackpot. It''s sharpness had certainly been a surprise.. but not all surprises were good. In this case the axe was no better than a double-edged sword. It would make things easier for him but at a cost. Feng Long simply wasn''t willing to pay that cost right now. After dismissing any thought of using the axe he started to wrack his brain trying to come up with a solution. He started to feel resentful that he hadn''t watched more survival or wilderness shows in his previous life. The few things he did know didn''t see to be all that helpful for the situation. Things like where the sun rose, and set, were practically useless to him now. He had no idea if the sun rose or set in the same direction on Avalon as they did on Earth. During the day he hadn''t been able to see the sun through the thick layer of clouds! He kept mulling over idea while treading through the forest. He came across a few small berry bushes which he checked out, and then eventually dismissed. He had no way of knowing if the berries were edible. Feng Long wasn''t going to shove them into his mouth to see if he could eat them. What if ended up poisoned? The very thought of another (Minor) debuff caused him to sweat. The more he thought about his situation; the more dispirited he became. ''What kind of situation did the other Hero''s end up in?'' The Goddess had only ever spoken about the very unlucky Hero''s that arrived in the territory of the demons. She never mentioned anything about Hero''s that ended up in uninhabitable terrain! That alone was alone was enough to make him grumble to himself as he continued to walk along. Finally, he struck fortune. He caught sight of a rabbit nibbling on the berries that had fallen from a nearby bush. Rather than rush out to start harvesting the berries Feng Long kept himself hidden to watch the little white creature. While hunched over behind a tree, watching the ball of fur nibble on berries, Feng long longs mouth involuntarily opened. A bit of dribble leaking out the corner of his lips while the rumbling in his stomach grew more intense. He would have been fine carrying on without seeing food, even seeing the berries hadn''t roused his hunger simply because the chance of poison had sobered his starvation. But now he could see real food in front of him. Something he could eat. It wasn''t just the berries that Feng Long had his eyes on. It was the lethargic rabbit that was pigging out on the berries. All he needed to do was capture it. Hit it. Anything. At least then he''d have something to eat. Feng Long got out of that crouched position, carefully making his way behind the rabbit. The torch certainly made sneaking up difficult.. but Feng Long wasn''t willing to set it down in case the snow put out the flame or it ended up catching the tree on fire. One would have been terrible for him. The other would scare away his prey! This story has been unlawfully obtained without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. After mentally preparing himself Feng Long lunged at the rabbit, striking down at it with the torch while taking on a heroic posture! Only for the rabbit to easily jump out the way as the torch smacked into the ground and Feng Long ended up with a face covered in snow. "Hehe.." He pulled his head off the ground, wiping off the snow, to see the rabbit looking at him from a few feet away. That sound.. Did the rabbit just snicker at him!? Looking at the rabbit now Feng Long could have sworn that he saw the creature gloating at his misfortune before it suddenly turned in place. He watched, dumbfounded, as that ordinary looking white rabbit became a blur of white that skidded away into the distance! "W-What kind of ability is that!?" Feng Long screamed in frustration at the injustice. This was a cheat! A scam! He was a powerful hero summoned by the Goddess of this world! How come a measly rabbit could escape him!? How could it be so far!? It was faster than a car from his original world! What sort of scam ability was that!? [Warm(minor) buff has been lost] The words appeared while he was in the middle of lamenting his fate and cursing the Goddess for creating such a cheating rabbit. "Ughhhh!" He could help but groan his frustration as he set his head back down in the snow. Thirty minutes later Feng Long was sitting back at the fire. The ''torch'' he''d brought with him had been tossed into the fire and slightly off to the side was a small pile of berries that he''d brought back. He''d considered grabbing berries from the other bushes on the way back but, despite how similar the berries looked, there were enough differences between the berries that had scared Feng Long from taking the risk. The ''Frozen(Minor)'' debuff hadn''t returned on the way back so Feng Long had returned with little impediment. Without the ''Warm(Minor)'' buff he''d certainly been slower but it was basically the same as when he originally arrived in the forest. It did make him wonder exactly how long he''d been passed out due to the ''Exhausted'' state. But Feng Long could roughly guess how long it had been when forest went from dark to dimly lit. The sky was starting to dim when Feng Long had taken the axe to the tree and he''d woken up while it was still dark. He could guess he''d been passed out anywhere from six or seven hours. But that estimate only really worked if days were as long as Avalon as they were on Earth. It would have been great if he could at least see the sun. Feng Long grabbed another batch of berries from the pile and swallowed them whole. Not long after the familiar words crossed his vision. [Hunger is now above threshold!] [Congratulations! ''Starvation(Minor)'' debuff has been lost] [Congratulations! ''Fatigue(Minor)'' debuff has been lost] Feng Long let out a pleased groan. Feng Long stood up and stretched. The loss of the debuffs was certainly gratifying. His body no longer felt as exhausted and the hunger pangs had finally passed. Since that handful had pushed his hunger above the so called ''threshold'' he knew that he would need to continually eat. He took another small handful from the pile, idly chewing on the berries, as he glanced across the pile of twigs. Feng Long had acquired the ''Warm(Minor)'' buff about five minutes after sitting by the fire. He''d taken two piles of twigs and branches and tossed them into the fire pit to see if the increased heat would have any effect. Even after another twenty minutes the ''Warm(Minor)'' buff didn''t change in anyway. He was disappointed but since he wasn''t in as dire straight as he had been a few hours ago it was only minimal disappointment. It wasn''t long after the sun rose that the familiar sound of roaring could be heard in the distance. Feng Long glanced in the direction, clearly surprised. ''Those two are still going at it..'' Feng Long wasn''t tempted to return to the battlefield. At least not when he could still hear the two dragons fighting. Now that he knew the two took a break during the night.. he resolved himself to return to the charred clearing during the night to see if he could find any other spoils amongst the corpses. Thanks to his experience with the axe Feng Long was skeptical as to whether or not any boons the tools provided would come without risks. Feng Long would at least need to make some preparations. Plus, since he was reluctant to use the axe, he needed some weapons in case he came across another rabbit or any other animal. ''Would be nice to run into another deer..'' Feng Long regretfully remembered the sight of scampering animals from where he originally landed. They had been quite some distance away from where he was now and Feng Long was reluctant to leave behind the fire and scarps of wood he currently had. He took a few larger branches out of the piles of wood, the branches that had slightly sharper edges. They weren''t exactly the most reliable of weapon, more like a flimsy spear, but they would at least be helpful. He doubted that even with the range of the spear he would have been able to kill anything like the white rabbit he saw earlier. Just remembering that ''haughty'' little creature got his blood boiling in annoyance. He was thankful no one had seen it otherwise he''d be spitting blood in shame for years over the experience. While ''recanting'' the strange creature Feng Long suddenly turned his head to an unfamiliar approaching sound. Squish. Plop. Squish. Plop. It was a small round green creature with a pointed head. No bigger than a bowling ball. A green slime that was slowly jumping its way towards Feng Longs camp. "Looks like the fire attracted it.." Feng Long had a slightly sour look on his face before he cracked a smile. While he was worried the fire might attract something more dangerous in the future a single green slime wasn''t anything for him to be worried about. If anything, such a small creature provided him with an opportunity to test out his spears! Feng Long picked up one of the longer spears, holding it with both hands, as he approached the smiling bouncing creature. "Sorry little guy, it''s you or me!" Feng Long thrust the spear forward. The pointed edge easily slimmed into the slime''s amorphous body leaving him clearly pleased. A direct hit! He''d been worried the slime would scamper about like the rabbit making it difficult to him. The green slime was still, for a few seconds, before the spear lodged in its body started to melt. Feng Long watched as the part of the spear buried in the slime just disappeared. As he drew back, away from the slime, and examined what was left of the edge it was a cleanly melted stump. The green blob wasn''t letting him get away though. No longer interested in the fire it began quickly jumping after him as Feng Long stumbled back. The green blob clearly hit him in the chest, dissolving parts of his shirt while striking him in the chest. There wasn''t any pain! It seemed like the slime wasn''t able to do any damage to him! Feng Long had his eyes closed when the creature first struck him. He had been bracing for pain. Now he was both pleased to find that other than a slightly melted shirt the slime hadn''t done anything to him. "Haha! Little guy, you''re just a slime. Know your place! This Hero will take care of you." The more confident Feng Long had a smile on his face as he taunted the creature, waiting for it to jump again before his fist slammed into the face of the slime and sent it back a couple of feet. [You have taken 5 damage.] The words appeared just as a light pain coursed through his hand. ''W-What!? The slime that had just been ''blown'' away was bouncing in place with wide open eyes and an open mouth. An incredulous look on it''s face that mirrored the one on Feng Longs. The slime had immediately expected death when the human hit it. It had seen humans hundreds of time before and they had eliminated its family with no effort. But this human had barely damaged it! It was to be expected. This little slime and its family lived in one of the most dangerous forests in Avalon. The only humans that ever shown up were skilled adventurers and heroes who wouldn''t even pay attention to the slimes unless they got in their way. That was why the slime had only half-heartedly headbutted the human before. To express its frustration before it died. For the first time in its life the slime had encountered a human that was weak! The slime was ecstatic with joy. It would finally get revenge for it''s fallen family! Encouraged by Feng Longs weak punch the slime charged at him again, striking him in the chest while he was still in a daze and sending him tumbling around in the snow. Once the human went flying the slime started to jump up and down, celebrating its good luck! Feng Long, however, was lying face-down in the snow for what seemed like the hundredth time since he''d arrived into Avalon. [You have taken 15 damage.] The words appeared in his vision just as he forced himself up to his feet. He started to curse in utter frustration. His entire body aching from the blow. "W-What is this bullshit!? A fucking slime is stronger than me?" Feng Long didn''t even have a clue what 20 damage meant and he''d just taken it? What kind of crappy system was this!? His face went pale, however, as that bouncing smile suddenly looked at him and began bouncing towards him again. ''Oh crap¡''
