《I Don't Have A System But I Have Skills》 Prologue - Innate Ability Inside a temple. "Why are you taking so long! There are people next to you! SPEED UP!" A teenager shouted to the guy in the altar. "Hey. Stop shouting at me." The guy glanced intently at the teenager who was shouting at him. "O-okay. Sorry." The teenager was slightly scared when the guy looked at him. "Sorry Sir Nathan but I think the Great God still doesn''t recognized your achievement in life yet." The priest who was standing behind said, feeling sorry for the guy in the altar. "Psh. I''ve done so many things in life. And yet... hah." Nathan walked away from the altar and exited the temple peacefully. ¡ã Nathan was walking besides the kingdom walls and heading straight towards the city. He was admiring the beauty of its largeness until he saw people who was showing off their skills to each other. "I''m already 18 but I never seen a hint of a system interface in front of me. I don''t even have a skill to use." Nathan released a heavy sigh with his frustrated look. In this world where the god gives every person a levelling system of their own by the time they are 15 years old, everyone was strong enough to live on their own. They can get new skills that is suitable for their class or job atleast once a year if their achievement is good enough to be recognized by the great god. Everyone assists people, gets a job, slays monster, or registers in a guild to complete quests with the help of their systems. But in those people full of fortunes, there is this one guy struggling to live. Even though he did everything to make his life be filled with achievements... He doesn''t have a system. He doesn''t have the god''s blessing to help him get a better life of his own. He''s barely living by borrowing some money from his good friends. "Why did I suddenly remember my past? Anyways, I heard from the priest that Neil got his new skill. I might as well greet him." Nathan said. ©n©n©n©n©n Nathan walked passed the main city that was crowded with people and merchants and finally stopped at the two-storey house made of painted and polished granite in the middle of a small town near a river. He walked in front of the door and knocked three times to let the person inside hear him. CREAK "Oh! Nathan you''re finally here. We''ve been waiting for you. Come inside." A beautiful lady with a short purple hair welcomed Nathan. "Uh... Claire? Why are you here? Where''s Neil?" Asked Nathan who was slightly surprised. "Liam is inside. Don''t you want me here too? I came here to congratulate him of course. Tyler is also here." Claire said. "Oh. Same intention. Uhm. Did you have some food to eat?" Nathan replied. "PFFT! Always thinking about food eh? Of course we have brought some! Neil was the one cooking though." A moment later, Nathan sat on a wooden sofa opposite to Claire and his other friend with a blonde and curly hair, Tyler. Four cups of tea was placed on top of the table in front of everyone, then delicous looking grilled meats and bacons and four baked brown breads was placed next the four cups. PUFF A guy sat next to Nathan then he looked at him with a what-the-hell expression on his face. "You''re drooling Nathan. Yuck." The guy said. The two people at their opposite looked at Nathan and giggled when they heard what the other guy said to him. "Don''t say ''Yuck'', you bastard. I''ve always been like this when you, Chef Neil, made some good food." Nathan replied, slightly embarrassed. "Hey. I''m no chef. You''re the one who''s always hungry that''s why you''re drooling over every food. You even eat over six times a day when we''re not busy. Am I right guys?" Neil glanced at their two friend in the other sofa, wanting for an answer. "YEAAAH." Both Claire and Tyler nodded and immediately agreed. "Oh come on! Anyways, let''s celebrate Neil''s new skill! Then we eat after!" Nathan said joyously. "Yeah Yeah. You just want to eat the fo-" "CONGRATULATIONS!.. TO!.. NEIL DENVER!" Before Neil could continue Nathan already shouted his words and the other two followed him after. ¡ã After they ate all of their meals, they relaxed on the sofa, feeling pleased and refreshed. "AH! Neil can you observe Nathan with your new skill. Check his stats. And ours also. I bet his attributes is now lower than us. He''s been lazy these past few years. hehe." Claire said to Neil when she remembered that Nathan was stronger at all of them with the attributes the last time the priests observed his stats with the attributes orb a few years ago. "Ah. Yes. I remember that we checked all our stats when we were fifteen and Nathan had the highest attributes just by training so hard back then." Neil said. "But unfortunately for Nathan, he somehow didn''t get a system like we did." Tyler said. "Eh? Why do you have to be so bitter?" Claire said, quite confused why Tyler said something bitterly. "No, it''s fine. Tyler has always been straight forward with his words. You can check my whole stats now, Neil." Nathan said with a smile on his face.Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings. "Okaaay! I''ll read it one by one so listen carefully." Neil said as his eyes shone with a blue tint then he continued, "Oh wow! Uwooh! This is... Nathan, did you train hard this year again?" "Huh? I barely even trained. All I can remember this year so far was eat, drink, and sleep. Nothing more." Nathan said honestly. "Really? Then why is your Strength changed from what it was before. I remember it was 64 a few years ago but now its 126, Your Agility was 68 to 131, Stamina was 71 to 139, Endurance was 61 was 119, Mana was 6 to 23, and your Luck was 3 to 12." Neil said as he used his highly superior autobiographical memory to remember Nathan''s Attributes. "What!? How is that possi¨C" "OH! Nathan you''re training even without having a system. You''re really determined to become a strong adult!" Claire said, interrupting Nathan. She was obviously happy for Nathan. "Uh but I really didn''t do anythi-" "Hm? Nathan, you are really good at this. I think you''re gonna catch up to us in no time. If we''re going to do nothing forever that is." Tyler said with a straight face and once again Nathan got cutted. "Hey. I told you guys that I wasn''t training in these few yea-" "Uhm-hm. N-Nathan. Y-You..." Neil said while he was observing Liam''s stats. "Ugh. What is it now?" Nathan annoyedly asked. "You got... skills." Neil said while he don''t know wether to be happy or be confused. "What? Don''t joke on me like that, Neil. I''ll tell you, it''s not funny." Nathan said helplessly. "I-It''s true! It said here that it''s an innate ability. The first one was Quality Hider and the second was Gluttony." Neil said. Nathan jumped from his seat and looked at his friend beside him. "WHAT!? Really! T-then what can it do. Please tell me. Tell the details!" "Sure. The first one can completely hide a person''s... achievements in life and skills to all the unknown species." Neil said, quite confused by the skill. "What!? Then... Then The Great God didn''t give me a system and skills because... Even the god can''t see my achievements! Damn it! What a useless skill! Ah! Just tell me what''s the next one please." Liam said hurriedly, he can''t wait anymore. "Absorbs every food that the user eats, which has a strong body and mind before it died, will make it into increasing the user''s attributes. When you kill a monster or a..." Neil suddenly paused for a moment before he continued to read it again. "You can absorb one of it''s skills and a small quantity of every attribute it has." "I-Is that really true, Neil?" "How can I lie when it might hurt your feelings." "HOLY CRAP! THIS IS REALLY GOOOOOOOD!!!" ¡ã Nathan was being complimented for almost half an hour by all of his friends including Tyler, who was always straight forward with his words, was happy for Nathan, then he decided to go into the forest immediately to kill some weak monster. "Okay guys! I''m off! I''m gonna catch up to y''all!hehe!" "You greedy bastard. Don''t eat all the monsters there. That''s gross." Claire followed up. "I''m not really gonna eat them with my mouth, you..." Nathan said. "Also, Nathan, remember this, don''t tell the monarch''s soldiers or the authorities of the kingdom about your innate abilities." Tyler said with a serious face. "Sure, I''ll remember that. I''ll be leaving now then." Nathan immediately agreed. Seeing someone with a serious face like Tyler right now, he can''t just not accept what he just requested. Nathan soon left and closed the door, then Neil glanced at Tyler with a confused look. "Why did you tell him that?" Neil asked. "I once heard from the high priests that someone with an innate ability, will likely to receive a very high treatment from the authorities or the barons, and on the other hand if the innate ability is something they cannot consider to be good for the kingdom, the person with that innate ability will be detained in the great prison for their whole life." "W-what are they thinking?" Claire said. "And right now, Nathan has two Innate Abilities. We also don''t know how powerful his ability is so we can just hope that the authorities won''t find out about his innate abilities." ©n©n ©n©n©n ©n©n Around the corner of the forest. Nathan was hiding behind a tree while peeking at the green slime that was jumping aimlessly in the small grassland surrounded by thick trees. "Okay. This is my chance." Nathan jumped out and swung his wooden sword towards the slime, but the slime suddenly bounced and dodged in the nicked of time and landed towards his face. PWHACK! Nathan was pushed back then he saw the slime flying towards his face once again. He panicked and swung his sword in the air aimlessly. Luckily, he hit the slime and it was forced to slammed on the ground. With his strength of a below-average adventurer, he can surely kill the slime with ease if he have a weapon or so. As soon as Nathan saw the slime not moving in an inch, he heaved a sigh of relief. A moment later, Nathan crouched and moved his body near the slime. "So how do I do this? It''s glutton right? Probably open my mouth?" Nathan said. While Nathan actually did what he said by slowly moving his head towards the slime, a tiny little red ant was sneakily crawling towards his right leg and suddenly, it bit him really bad. "OWW! What the hell!" Nathan lost his balance and fell forward. He accidentally touched the slime with his right hand for a moment but he pulled it back again. Suddenly, an eerie feeling crept in his body. He felt like something was crawling in the middle of his right hand''s palm, he first thought that it was the ants again, but when he saw it, he was shocked and fell on his butt. A deep, dark-red mouth without a lips but with a sharp teeth and toungue was formed in his palms. It definitely looked devilish and demonic. "Ho-Holy Sh!t!" Nathan shouted at the top of his lungs as he looked at it more. While he was shocked-silly and busy moving his hands away from his face, he noticed that a dark air was slowly moving towards his palm. Nathan realized that it was the slime who was being sucked by the mouth in his palm. He was reluctant at first, but he now thought that it was his skill''s process of doing so, so he moved his hands near it. The slime got dark for a moment then it dispersed and got sucked by the mouth in his palm. "This... No way. I learned something." Nathan didn''t believed it at first, then realized that he really learned a skill. It was like he mastered it for years and it became a part of his memory and mind. "''Bash''? Is it called Bash?" Yes, it is Bash. He learned to bash. Bash... with greatness and strength. "So I can bump the target with it or headbutt with it. ''Kay! Even though it sucks a bit, I finally learned an attack skill!" He then wiped the blood coming out from his nose because of the attack from the slime earlier, he even scratched the spot where the ant bit him. ''Oh! I also felt an energy of strength flowed inside me earlier. Is that the attributes?'' Suddenly, he felt like the demonic mouth in his hand opened again but when he looked at it, nothing has changed. It was just his smooth palm. A second later, something carved into his mind. It was a new skill! "WHAT!? Don''t tell me it''s... from the ant? Finger Stinger? The hell is that?" Once again, Nathan learned a new skill. Finger Stinger. It sure was a great skill. You can poke anyone or anything and made them go ''OWW! It stings!'' respectively. He was still deep in thought. He was thinking about how the hell does the skill he got was considered a skill. Nathan didn''t know that something unimaginable was going to happen soon. But let us focus in the present for a moment because Nathan was still lurking deep in the corner of the forest. "Hmm? Why are the birds flying away from the city?" Nathan was syrprises as he saw flocks of bird flying quickly away from a certain direction. Then his question seems to have an immediate answer... When suddenly... BOOOOOOOM! The air rippled and the earth shook. Nathan lost his balance and fell on the ground. He quickly turned around to see where the explosion came from, but when he saw the direction, his expression immediately turned grave. "Its... The city..." Leaving a Life to the Death 3 Years Ago ''It''s been 3 years since I got reincarnated into this cool world.'' Nathan was lying down on his bed with his two hands being placed under his head. ''I''ve been very happy living in this world. Well, I''m a little bit sad when I''m still an orphan a long time ago but I met my best friends after and I became so much happier.'' He stood up and walked in front of the mirror. ''I can''t even remember almost all of the small events that happened from my past life because my mind is currently filled with happy and exciting memories from this new life I have now.'' He grabbed a towel and went downstairs. He walked in front of a wooden tub, big enough for a person to fit. ''This world is quite different from Earth. I feel like I''ve gone back to the 16th century but with kingdoms. And also magic, monsters, skills or power, and a leveling interface or what the people here usually call...'' The System. Nathan took his clothes off. He placed his foot in the wooden tub that was filled with warm water. ''I''ve been training my physical capabilities to be like an adventurer so if I finally have my own system I''ll receive a huge boost.'' He soaked and relaxed his body in the tub for quite a long time. "I don''t want to think of dying anymore ever again." Tap! "Hey, Nathan. Don''t lose too much hope. You can still try next year if you gain some amazing achievements before you take the test and get a system." Neil said with a worried look. "Yeah! Keep it up! There is a new year next year! and the year after that! You can always get a system that way!" Claire said, trying to cheer Nathan. "You should get going and have a big achievement so you can get a system. Don''t be too sad that we will catch up to your strength." Tyler said with nothing but a straight-face. "TYLER!" Neil and Claire shouted at the same time. "You guys, what are you saying so sudden. It''s not like I''m gonna kill myself or something just because I didn''t get a system like everyone, besides I can still go train while I currently don''t have one, right?" Nathan said before leaving a faint smile. "Ah... yeah, but aren''t there people who killed themselves with a reason like yours, right?" Claire said. "Huh? Do I look like I do something like those?'''' Nathan asked. "Uh... no," Claire said helplessly. "Anyways, I''ll be off then," Nathan said as he stopped at the entrance of the city. "Sure. Meet us anytime you want, Nathan." Neil said. Nathan and the others bid they''re own farewell and went on their own ways. He didn''t go inside the city walls and went straight to the grasslands at the east, where people in the kingdom and the city rarely even go to. In the middle of a vast field of grass and reeds, there was a fairly large but simple-looking wooden house in the middle of a small hill. Nathan was obviously in deep thought while he was walking towards the wooden house. His bodily functions were working properly but it can''t be said the same thing as what was going on inside his mind and his emotions. "Those people... The people who looked at me with their eyes of disgust and disdain... Scums. I thought this world won''t have the likes of the people on the Earth but I guess I was wrong.'' Nathan stopped at the stairs that connect to the deck and the front door. ''Then from today on, I... I will show them that I can be a man who will survive in this world without even having a help from a system." He went in front of the door and noticed that it was slightly opened. "Ah? Did I left this opened?" Nathan said inwardly. He came inside the house and froze on the spot as he looked at the surroundings. One glance inside and you can tell that something not good had happened inside his house while he was away. The table and the chairs were flipped and were out of place, the ornaments and the books on the shelves were disordered, and lastly, all of the storage which was made out of woods like drawer and cabinets were left open. The whole mess inside Nathan''s house was clearly theft. As he regained his senses, he didn''t care a thing about the mess in the living room as he walked straight to the bedroom. Inside there, was no differenct than the mess in the living room. Nathan still didn''t give a damn about any of it. He crouched down and looked something to find under the bed. He stretched his hand and grabbed a wooden box before standing up again. Nathan paused for a moment and soon tried to open the box with his focused eyes. Soon after opening it and seeing what''s inside, his heart sunk. ''Ah... it''s gone'' My keepsake. The memento of the orphanage... And my first friend. The one I loved the most. It''s all gone. Nathan''s body drooped. He became somewhat depressed. Once again. The wooden box from his hands fell. As soon as it touched the ground, Nathan suddenly reminisced his life in the past. TAK! Tons of paperworks were placed down heavily in front of Nathan, who was sitting in his office chair while looking at his desktop with his thick eyebags. At that point in his life, he constantly thought about resting and going to his deep slumber. Eternally. He was enslaved by his boss by making him overwork, he was not getting any rest, he was starved, he was harassed by some of his co-workers, he was scammed, he was robbed, he was down. He was depressed. One time, he didn''t realized that he went into the rooftop of his office building. But somehow he seemed to liked walking towards the edge of it. Nathan went on top of the short barrier of the rooftop and stood straight with his arms open. "Ah... The wind is cold." He smiled before closing his eyes. "It''s nice and..." Comfortable. If leaving my life to death is this good then I like this. I want this... Forever. Nathan''s body goes with the air and slowly fell and descend freely by the force of gravity. His thoughts and emotion flew away and so does he. THUMP! Nathan opened his eyes. He saw nothing but darkness. He finally felt comfortable once again so he closed his eyes again and rested. The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement. THUMP! Nathan opened his eyes and saw nothing but whiteness. He felt warm and relief swelling through his body so he closed his eyes again and rested. THUMP! Nathan opened his eyes. "Oh, Nathan! You''re awake! Great. Come on, get up. Lady Anna already prepared the meal in the orphanage..." And foresaw his new life blooming brightly. "Ugh. Why are you still doing there sitting and blinking like a chicken? Let''s go!." Even though Nathan already heard that the girl in front of her hated his blinking, he still did it continuously. "Eh? Why you!" "Huh? Ah... Sorry." Nathan spoked in surprise. "Who... Who are you?" "EH?! WHAT ARE YOU TA...!" Nathan suddenly noticed that his hearing dwindled badly. He tried to touch his ear. But then... ACK! His head received extreme pain. It felt like it was going to crack at any moment. Then it suddenly vanished in the blink of an eye. Nathan felt great again like nothing ever happened. But what has changed was the vast memories that sunk into his mind. Plenty of years of living a life just fell into himself. It was like watching all types of movies and remembering it vividly. Or simply put getting 5 to 10 years of someone''s life being added into your own life. Well, that was Nathan''s explanation to it. Hey. TWACK! "I just said ''hey'' so many times now, you blockhead! Are you deaf!? Or was it your intention!?" The girl was obviously angry that she even tried to smack him again once more. "H-Hey! Don''t do that...! Uh... Ara¡ Aria! I just woke up so my mind was a bit messy, okay? I''m sorry." Nathan jumped up in shocked thinking he was going to be hit. "Eh~? You actually felt sorry? I can''t remember the last time you said that word." She said while making a confused look and doing a suspicious stare at Nathan. "R-Right... Haha..." "You''re lucky that it''s your birthday is just a couple weeks from now or you would''ve been dead." "Y-Yeah...? Hey, isn''t that a bit... harsh?" "Che. Anyways, let''s go now. Your shabby shelter will collapse soon so I might as well be safe." "You..." Aria then laughed so hard after saying what she wanted to say since she went for Nathan. She soon walked with Liam silently following her behind. ''Hm. What''s this feeling?'' Nathan stopped for a moment before he continued walking as he recalled something. "Oh. My ''self'' in this world must be in love with her since they met but... Currently... We''re just thirteen years of old..." And just like that Nathan''s life began anew. He didn''t even care that he was in another world. He didn''t even remember that he went to depression. He quickly adapted to his new environment. Or to be more precise, he wanted to be adapt without even knowing why. "Nathan, my child, sit here with your siblings. We were waiting for you." "Ah. Yes, Lady Anne. I''m sorry I was late." "Oh~ Nathan? You''re learning from your mistakes. How nostalgic. fufu~" The woman sitting next to Lady Anne was caught by surprise when the word ''sorry'' came out from Nathan''s mouth. "I know right. Lady Anne, Lady Tina. Nathan has become a new leaf. Out catterpillar underwent a metamorphosis and became a beautiful butterfly~ He is now called The Fresh Nathan. PFFT!" "Aria, you...!" HAHAHA! FUFUFU~ Laughter soared throughout the whole room, from the youngest orphan to the most gentle, Lady Anne. They all showed their joy at that exact moment. Days passed by since waking as the new Nathan and all he did was to familiarize himself to the children and the ladies. A week passed to Nathan, who was all busy doing chores and taking care of the children. And another week passed with Nathan going out and doing fun things with his beloved friend Aria. Haa~ "Isn''t it beautiful?" Aria sat down in the ground where the grass was resting all over the floor and with the shadow of the tree shading them from the sunlight. Besides her was Nathan who was unnoticeably enjoying the view. "Yeah... Ah! Beautiful your face, Aria! We didn''t even tell the Ladies that we''re going somewhere." "eek! It''s fine, It''s fine... Probably...?" "Ugh... You careless jellyfish." "Nathan... What did you just say..." Nathan glanced sideways as he felt a cold glare. "Ah haha... It was nothing. Y''know! Just a little bit of senseless jokes coming from my mouth... Haha...!" THWACK! "Keuk! It hurts!" "Hmph. You deserved it." "Fuu~ To think that I was affected by my old self in this world. My heart really became that of a thirteen years old... or is it that I just want to become young again... Well, in any case, I can''t believe that I like this girl." Nathan said inwardly. WHOOSH! "Hee~ Happy Birthday, Nathan!" "Happy Birthday, Nathan!" The children in the orphanage cheered loudly as Nathan blew the candle in the small birthday cake he received from the ladies. "Thank you very much guys, thank you, Lady Anne and Lady Tina. I don''t deserve this." "Child, you are the eldest in the orphanage. And you have been taking care of the children since then. You deserve it fully well." "Fufufu~ That''s right, Nathan. So go eat your cake before the kids won''t let you." "Thank you again... Alright! Hehe, Let''s eat!" "YEAH!" Later in the afternoon, Nathan and Aria ran away from the orphanage and went to their usual place. Casual chatter was loosened between Nathan and Aria without their smiles disappearing for a minute. Not until Aria halt his faint laughter for a moment and glanced at Nathan with her crystal eyes. "Uh, Nathan..." "Yeah...?" "I wanted to tell you something for a long time now but..." "Hm? But what...?" Nathan got no clue what she was talking about because he was busy thinking about how to tell his feelings for her. Little did he know that Aria was the same. "Hng... Nathan... I... I¨C!" BOOOOOM! Aria cut his words mid-sentence as she heard a loud sound that echoed throughout the whole area. Both she and Nathan swayed as the earth shuddered. "H-Hey! Nathan, what was that!" Aria immediately questioned him as he was near the direction of the explosion. Then Nathan stood up leaving Aria sitting on the ground. Aria was dumbfounded that he left her behind but she was more dumbfounded that Nathan was still not talking with his shocked face. "Na-Nathan, what are you looki-..." Nathan gulped before taking one step forward. He saw the familiar fairly small wooden mansion while behind it was thick smoke and dense dust which covered an extremely large area. "The... The orphanage... Aria, the orphanage!" He soon began running towards the orphanage at the speed where he can run with Aria beside him. In the middle of their way, Nathan can''t help but asked something. How can a large explosion be held in this fantasy world where guns and explosives have yet to exist. He revealed his thoughts and asked her Aria about it. But Aria only said that it''s not an explosion caused by a mere weapon or some sort. She stuttered with her before saying something absurd and unbelievable in Nathan''s past world, Earth. A horde of monsters would be in their slumber inside a gigantic rock called ''meteor'', that meteor will eventually crash into a random place in the continent twice every month. All of this was caused by the "Monster King" that has the power to make a meteor and control monsters to get them to there and create havoc when they land. Nathan smacked his lips as he heard the story about the monsters in this world. He also remembered his past from his current life that many people in this world lived with magic powers and insane physical strength. He transmigrated into a perfect but terrifying fantasy world. SHIK! As they passed through the thick bushes, Nathan and Aria suddenly stopped while their tense faces finally soothed.
