《Returned to Earth as the Wolf God》
Chapter 1
Once upon a time, I was nothing more than a mere man. A remarkably unremarkable one, too. Really, it was almost impressive just how boringly dull I was, and I had no plan to change that fact about myself.
However, fate did not make it so. One day, as I was walking over to the bookstore for some worthless book that I cannot be bothered to remember, a drunk truck driver conveniently appeared out of nowhere, turning me into meat-paste.
At the time, I did not know what happened afterward exactly, but now, with my current knowledge, I do. I was whisked away by the gods, chosen at random amongst the countless mortals in what has come to be known as the Empty Worlds.
To satisfy their lust for entertainment, I was made to suffer a life filled with strife and pain. I was reincarnated as a common wolf, a throwaway mob, if you will.
I struggled and fought, clawed my way through the food chain. Despite everything the gods threw my way, I kept on winning. It is not an exaggeration to say that millions perished by my claw and tooth, with many more dying as a result of my actions.
Still, I knew I would have died eventually had it continued on. It was simple math, really. The odds kept getting more and more skewed towards my enemies as the gods and goddesses above became more serious about ''putting me out of my misery''.
However, everything changed when I encountered the Rabbit Goddess. She was a minor deity, inconsequential to the bigger machinations of the world. However, it was she who showed me the only path for my survival, and she was also the one to introduce me to the Beast Faction.
By that time, I had become renowned throughout the world, Tierra. Apparently, my exploits of constant battle and frankly insane growth had stunned many of the gods not involved in my reincarnation, and amongst them, none were as eager to meet me as the Beast Gods.
Thus, following that meeting with the other gods, my life changed dramatically. With their help, I was able to finally hide from the machinations of what I lovingly dubbed the ''Bastard Gods'', and I retreated to a secluded and horribly inhospitable volcano in the northern wastes.
For the following thousand years, I focused on strengthening myself. I trained, I hunted the monsters hiding within those inhospitable lands, and I studied any and all magic and techniques I could think of. The Beast Faction aided me in this endeavor, eager to have a being as talented and antagonistic towards their perceived enemies such as myself amongst their midst.
Then, when I turned two thousand years old, I ascended. Ascension was a fairly big deal in Tierra, however, mine was a silent affair. With the help of the three major Beast Gods, we hid the various celestial phenomena that came along with my ascension.
The power I received from becoming a God was immense. My magic became thousands of times more powerful, my body receiving a similar boost, if not more. Furthermore, my mind, soul, and elemental resistance also benefited tremendously.
I was granted the title of ''Wolf God''. I won''t bother explaining all of the intricacies that existed within the God''s ranking system, but the basics of it all were this. Minor Gods could destroy a nation, medium Gods could destroy continents, and major Gods could destroy moons. Of course, it was vastly more complicated than that, and Gods had several restrictions that prevented them from carrying out mass slaughter, but nonetheless, we were very powerful.
I immediately set out to build up a worshipper base. As a god that had ascended through what was called the ''strength method'', I had no real need for worshippers, unlike the faith Gods, who would perish if they didn''t receive sufficient worship from their followers. Still, I set out anyways.
I brought all of the major wolf tribes, including the one of my birth, under my control. Then, I spread my roots towards the dog and wolf beastmen, many of whom had been worshipping other Beast Gods. Naturally, as a member of the Beast Faction, I wasn''t allowed to simply steal my fellow faction member''s worshippers, so I traded for them using favors and valuable resources. If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it.
Suprisingly, I was able to do all of this right under the nose of the Bastard Gods. After trading a few favors to the Sage Dragon, a Beast Goddess with the power of divination, I learned that they had more or less forgotten about me, some of them thinking me long dead. Apparently, they had moved on and found new toys to entertain themselves with.
Having learned of that, I doubled my operations, confident I would be able to carry out my plans unhindered. I built an empire amongst the poor and savage lands of the north, where I had spent such a large portion of my life. I brought worshippers there, traded with other Beast Gods for their help and guidance, and used my godly powers to create a functioning ecosystem after exterminating any and all creatures that dared resist me.
By the time I turned five thousand years old, I became a medium God thanks to the plentiful worship I received. This time, my ascension was not hidden. I broadcasted it to the world, much to the glee of my faction members.
Just for the satisfaction of it, the Sage Dragon willingly divined the scene where the Bastard Gods learned of my ascension. Their faces that day were truly... wonderful.
Having become a medium God, I was finally able to cast off the shackles of my past. The Bastard Gods, even if they wanted to, could do nothing to me now. I had a stable and prosperous territory to which I could retreat if needed, the Beast Faction considered me one of their own, and my own personal power was nothing to sneeze at.
Amongst the various Gods that ruled Tierra, there were few who had ascended to become divines from mere mortals, and as a general rule, we tended to be a bit more powerful than divine-born Gods. Hence, while I would quickly lose should I go against a major God, I was firmly entrenched at the top of the list of medium Gods.
And that brings us just about to where I am today. As the youngest God currently residing within Tierra, standing at a mere seven thousand years of age, my faction considered me as the most likely candidate to become their fourth major God, something that we all eagerly awaited.
The Civilized Faction was in turmoil. First, the Hell Faction had sent their pawn, the demon king, to ravage the lands of the civilized races. Then, the Beast Faction gained a new God in their midst, one that had no qualms causing trouble for them. All in all, it was a bad situation.
Syria, the Goddess of Glass, seated herself upon her throne. She was a mere minor God, and thus, she could only occupy one of the lower thrones. She watched as everyone else took their own seats, with the medium Gods sitting in the middle, and the four Major Gods taking the highest of thrones.
There was an ominous silence in the Great Hall. While the situation was by no means desperate, it was still very troublesome. It had been several thousands of years since the last faction-wide meeting, which from their perspective, was basically last week.
Aeria, the Goddess of Storms and one of the four reigning monarchs, stood up and addressed the crowd. "Greetings, fellow divines. We called everyone here to discuss the situation at hand, as I''m sure many of you are aware of."
Her golden eyes scanned the several hundreds of divines before her, many of whom didn''t dare meet her eyes. The major Goddess sighed inwardly, a tinge of depression appearing within her soul.
Their Civilized Faction was strong and numerous, but unlike the other factions, many of their members tended to be composed of Gods and Goddess whose specialties revolved around things other than warfare and destruction.
Now, this was amazing for the development of their worshippers, who benefitted greatly from their Gods, who in turn benefitted from the greater number and devotion of their worshippers. However, in conflicts, this arrangement became a hindrance.
The Hell Faction was much, much different. It was composed almost exclusively of ''evil'' Gods, many of whom wanted nothing more than to tear apart the Civilized Faction and take their belongings for themselves. In a way, the Hell Faction was the antithesis to the Civilized Faction, and thus, it was of no suprise that there had been many a times where they sent their pawns to cause chaos amongst the civilized lands.
Meanwhile, the Beast Faction was a sort of middle-of-the-road faction. It was composed mainly of Beast Gods, as the name implied, and many of its members tended to be mixtures of sorts. They loved war, but they tended to remain secluded, hence conflicts between them and the Civilized Faction tended to remain limited in scale.
Aeria cleared her mind, removing those useless and erratic thoughts from her consciousness. She glanced back at her three fellow monarchs, receiving nods from all of them.
Turning back towards her faction, she spoke once more. "We, the monarchs, have come to a solution for our current trouble, but to solve it, we will require the aid of everyone present. Thus, I hope you will all listen to me."
And listen they did. That day, the event that would one day become known as the Banishment Scheme was born.
Chapter 2
"They want to do what?! This is insane!" The Claw God exclaimed upon receiving the message from the angel in front of him. His brows furrowed before glancing at the shivering winged human-wannabe in front of him and waving him away.
The angel promptly took the opportunity and fled, glad to have survived what was essentially a 50% chance of sure death.
Turning around, the Claw God snarled slightly, his inhuman teeth showing. With a step, he reached all the way back to the Beast Faction''s pantheon, which was currently empty except for him.
This was normal, as most of the Beast Gods had their own matters and worshippers to attend to. Hence, they had an agreement between their major Gods that at least one of them would always stay behind to guard the place.
Still, this wasn''t quite as important as the matter at hand. The Claw God waved his, unironically, clawed hand and summoned forth several abominations with far too many teeth and claws from thin air.
"Go summon the other monarchs as well as the Wolf God and the Sage Dragon. Tell them I''m smelling a conspiracy here." He ordered. The creatures quickly obeyed, vanishing from his sights and rushing towards his fellow God''s territories.
The Claw God harrumphed angrily, feeling quite indignant. The Civilized Faction was truly as shameless as ever, daring to claim that they wanted to discuss a possible trade agreement between the two factions, but would only do so if they sent a very specific negotiator.
As a major God, and one of the oldest ones in the whole of Tierra, the Claw God was no fool. He knew the Wolf God and the Civilized Faction had some bad blood between them, but the large canine was one of their own now, not to mention a future investment. Major Gods don''t grow out of trees, after all.
The Claw God only had to wait for a few hours before he sensed several powerful presences rushing towards his location. He ignored their divine senses trying to probe him for information, instead opting to just tell them in person.
A few minutes later, several figures appeared one after the other. First, a titanic woman dressed in full battle armor. Standing at around five kilometers in height, the Goddess of Battle could easily be considered the strongest one-on-one fighter in the entire Beast Faction.
The woman quickly shrunk down until she was at a more acceptable height, only reaching ten meters from toe to hair. She looked at the Claw God inquisitively, but the monster just shook his head, pointing at the large, colosseum-like temple behind him.
As the woman flew into the Beast Pantheon, another figure arrived. This one wasn''t quite as humanoid as the Battle Goddess, but neither was it as much of an abomination as the Claw God.
The Blood God was a deity composed entirely of blood, lacking any skin, muscles, or bone. Still, he usually kept a humanoid form, and despite his true form being an ocean of blood, he was currently only as large as a normal human. He glanced at the Claw God before making his way into the Pantheon as well.
Next came the Sage Dragon. She was a Goddess too, but since she the God of Dragons belonged to the Hell Faction, as well as the Goddess of Divination belonged to the Civilized one, she was one of the few divines who chose not to include the word God or Goddess as their title. Still, she was one of the most influential members in the Beast Faction, and one of the most useful.
Her long, draconic body landed and quickly shrunk down to a more acceptable size from its previous kilometers-long one.
"Claw God, what is the meaning of this?" She asked, staring at him directly. Said God ignored her, pointing irritably at the Pantheon behind him. The dragon rolled her eyes before flying into it.
The last to arrive just so happened to be the main character of the current situation, the Wolf God. Truth be told, the Claw God found the Wolf God to be one his most liked Gods in his faction. Their dispositions and beliefs aligned nicely, after all, and the fact that they both despised the Civilized faction certainly helped sweeten their relationship. If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
The titanic wolf that was said Wolf God quickly shrunk down as well, his rune-covered fur somehow managing to look even glossier and softer than the last time the Claw God had seen him. The two exchanged curt nods before they both flew into the temple.
Unlike the Civilized Faction, the Beast Faction rarely bothered with thrones and the like, thus, the gathered members simply sat down however and wherever they wished.
"Greetings, fellow Gods and Goddesses. Before we begin this discussion, does anyone have something they wish to announce?" The Claw God asked once everyone had seated themselves. After a few moments of waiting for anyone to speak up, the Claw God resumed.
"Good. Anyways, I have just received word from the Civilized Faction," He spit out the two words with enough venom to poison a whole town, "That they intend to form a trade agreement with us."
He paused his speech, thinking over his next words. "Get to the point already, Claw. I know you wouldn''t have made this such a big deal if you didn''t find this suspicious." The Battle Goddess spoke, already getting impatient.
The Claw God graced the armored woman with a glare before coughing into his ''hand''. "... Yes. As the Batte Goddess says, I shall get to the point. They said they would allow us to propagate our various religions into their lands in exchange for assistance against the Hell Faction."
Murmurs immediately broke out amongst the other four divines. Claw glared at them all, causing them to quickly shut their mouths.
"Now, as I''m sure you all know, this deal is far too sweet. And, here''s the catch, and why you two," He glanced over at both the Sage Dragon and the Wolf God, "Were invited here. They want us to send Wolf God over to them to discuss the terms of our agreement, alone."
The two other major Gods immediately shot up, eyes blazing with fury. Suprisingly, the Wolf God himself didn''t seem too bothered, opting to instead continue lying down on the floor, observing the proceedings.
"What the fuck? This is nonsense! It''s clearly a trap and not even an elaborate one! How dare they think us so stupid? Their lands may be the most populated and sought-after, but I sure as fuck am not gonna allow our future major God for something as small as this!" The Battle Goddess roared, the Blood God simply nodding after her.
The Claw God sighed. "Yes, if it was simply that, I would have just murdered their messanger and ignored them. However, it''s not so simple. They also stated that they would be willing to give us the location of the Supreme''s Mausoleum if we accepted."
Following his words, silence reigned within the Pantheon. Even the previously uncaring Wolf God had sat up on his haunches, eyes focused.
"... What a cunning plan. This bait is too good to pass up..." The Blood God murmured, the red orbs that could be considered his eyes filled with both greed and apprehension.
The Supreme''s Mausoleum had been one of the main reasons why the Civilized Faction had been reigning supreme for so long. It was a mythical location, spoken only in whispers even amongst Gods. However, everyone agreed that, within it, there laid the secret towards a realm beyond that of a major God.
If there was, nobody had found it. Still, the treasures within were so plentiful that it made almost all factions green with envy towards the Civilized Faction.
The Claw God ignored his fellow monarchs and instead focused on the two other Gods attending the meeting. "Sage Dragon, could you try to divine information about whatever the Civilized Gods are planning?"
Immediately, the Sage Dragon shook her head. "Impossible. They blocked off the region temporarily, they must have enlisted the help of the Divination Goddess." She mused. "This alone, however, speaks plenty about their honesty." After all, why would they block off divination if they had no nefarious purpose in mind?
The Claw God sighed. "As I suspected. Wolf God, we would not dare force you into this, however, I hope you can understand just why we didn''t immediately tell those bastards to fuck off."
The titanic canine sighed and shook his head upon being addressed. "Worry not, Claw God. I understand perfectly. If there''s even a single percent chance of them giving up the location, it would be worth the risk a thousandfold. I''m willing to risk it as long as we take the necessary precautions, and I get some favors from you all."
The Claw God nodded. "Naturally. You two in agreement?" He turned and asked, the other two major Gods easily nodding.
"Very well. Should I fall, I will have to ask you three to stand guard over my empire for a hundred thousand years. If any God or Goddess emerges amongst them, then it''d be worth it. If not, you may then split them up amongst the Faction however you deem fit." The Wolf God spoke once more, his eyes turning deadly serious at the mention of his potential death.
Following a round of agreements from everyone present, the Claw God clapped loudly, attracting everyone''s attention back to him.
"Good. Alright, here''s the plan. Us three monarchs are gonna hide in the shadows, far away enough that they won''t be able to sense us, but close enough that we should be able to assist you should anything happen. We''ll enlist a number of Medium Gods to act as support, but they''ll be too far to act immediately."
After a few rounds of discussing details, everyone returned back to their territories. Meanwhile, the Claw God sent back a messenger with a simple response.
"Okay."
Chapter 3
The Northern Empire was in complete uproar. Now, the empire wasn''t quite your traditional run-of-the-mill state. Rather, it had been built with two purposes in mind: Produce faith for the Wolf God, and create a new, prosperous home for the many species of canines that inhabited Tierra, be they four-legged or two.
Thus, when the Wolf God''s priests suddenly received news from their God that he may not survive the coming week, it was complete chaos.
Human empires rose and fell every few hundred years, but the states backed by gods rarely ever did, unless their divine patron died. Thus, it went without saying that the citizens of the empire were sent into a panic by the news.
Still, the priests did their best to calm them down. The reigning emperor, having been elected by a council of the most influential beings within the empire and given a mark of approval from the Wolf God, worked overtime to calm the situation.
Plans were drafted up should the Wolf God fall, and contingencies were made. The fact that their God had secured the support of not one, but three major Gods for his empire should he fall spoke of the devotion the great canine had towards his people.
Within an extremely large cave in the tallest and most sacred mountain within the Northern Empire, said Wolf God was currently pacing back and forth nervously, his ears twitching occasionally.
The day had come. He had already received word from his fellow faction members about the location of the meeting, a neutral ground fairly far from the territories of both the Civilized and Beast factions.
To be honest, the Wolf God was not afraid of death. He''d already risen far beyond anything he''d ever expected from life, and he had gotten everything he ever wanted. However, that did not mean he wanted to die.
His worshippers needed him. Should he die, his priests and priestesses would almost surely die with him. There was, unfortunately, no way around this, as while he was bound to them and thus able to gift them a portion of his power, they were also bound to him in a much more intimate way.
Furthermore, everything he had worked for would be in danger. He had built up a utopia for his people through his blood, sweat, and tears, and he refused to allow it to fall into oblivion.
Still... He had no other choice. He refused to back down from this obligation of his, despite the obvious danger. He owed it and so much more to the three beast monarchs, who had given him so much.
He glanced upwards, his eyes easily penetrating through the thick walls of the mountain to look at the blazing sun above. It was almost time.
Stepping out of his cave, he easily teleported over to his empire''s capital, Fenria. Originally, it had been nothing more than a small village inhabited by savage trolls, a species that was honestly so unreasonable not even their own God bothered with them much.
He''d slaughtered them all, taken their resources, and brought in his people. Now, from a mere camp with dirt homes, a vast, sprawling city that could rival even the major cities within the human lands stood.
He willed his massive forms to hover above the city, allowing his worshippers to gaze upon him. Each God and Goddess had their own way of interacting with their worshippers, and he was no different.
While keeping a distance from mortals to keep up the image of divine mystery was a true and tried method, he preferred a more direct approach. While he took no part in the people''s lives or governance, he was always ready to answer a question from any of his worshipers or aid them during times of need.
These were mere examples, but still. After a few moments, he flew over towards the royal palace, his body shrinking down sizeably so that he could fit within the halls. The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Within it, he found almost all of his most high-ranking worshippers waiting for him, along with the royal family. He''d never liked the idea of ''nobility over the peasants'', but true democracy was difficult to implement, hence, he''d settled for a sort of constitutional and elected monarchy when creating the Northern Empire, something that he still felt had been a great choice back then.
His eyes passed over each of the present members. The current emperor, a Southern-Tribal Werewolf, stood at the front of those gathered, with the High Priestess standing proudly next to him.
He enjoyed making it a point of his to always either have an Empress and High Priest, or an Emperor and a High Priestess. It certainly sent a message, and if nothing else, it was at least a slap in the face towards the Civilized Faction, who were regarded as some of the most traditionalist states on Tierra.
A faint smirk rose to his lips at the thought, causing the people who''d quickly kneeled before him to shiver slightly. He quickly suppressed his killing intent, not wishing to harm his worshippers.
"I have already said anything that needed to be said." He eventually spoke, his voice imbued with enough divine force to cause it to enchant those before him.
"If I survive this, then these preparations will all be for naught. However, should the worst come to pass, I hope for you all to abide by my wishes." Following those words, he allowed a small scroll to appear next to him and float down in front of the emperor.
His eyes once more scanned those before him. He could feel the uncertainty and fear, and perhaps even a tinge of confusion within them. He could not truly blame them for their feelings, but it did warm his heart a bit to know that he was wanted here. Needed, even.
Still, duty called. After one last glance at the emperor, he vanished, reappearing within the skies above.
He ran, the fact that there was no earth underneath him for him to run on making no difference. After all, running on air was something that he''d mastered long before his ascension to godhood, something that he was still proud of to this day, and something that had saved his hide several times.
It didn''t take long for him to reach his destination. The Claw God was waiting for him, and after a brief brush of divine sense, all the needed information was transferred to him. The amount of available help the Beast Faction was willing to provide, who could and could not, any unacceptable terms, etc...
If, along with the needed information, the Claw God also passed on a reassurance that his empire would be well taken care of should he die... Well, neither he nor the Claw God commented on it.
He could not sense whether the other two major Gods were close, but that was to be expected. The difference between a peak medium-ranked God and even a weak major one was just as large as the difference between a newly ascended God to the current him.
After a quick shooing motion from the Claw God, he departed towards his new destination. This time, the journey was a bit longer, but still only took him only fifteen minutes until he reached it.
He reached out with his divine sense, scanning the area for any traps or hostiles. He found none, unsurprisingly. After all, the Bastard Faction might have been filled with bastards, but they were certainly cunning if nothing else. They would not make such amateur mistakes.
He entered the clearing, expanding to his full size for the added intimidation and combat ability it brought. After all, there was little more intimidating than a mountain-sized titan of a wolf.
Even amongst the Beast Faction, renowned for the size of its gods, he was unquestionably the largest of them all. He was eight kilometers tall, and from head to tail, he measured a whopping thirty kilometers. Just his eyes alone were larger than common giants.
He did not have to wait long. The skies above suddenly turned golden, holy light radiating out along with a loud and beautiful chorus.
Wrapped by a dress crafted entirely out of holy light, the Goddess of Light descended, seated on a large throne carried by several dozens of unicorns.
The Wolf God could not help but snort loudly at the sight. "So it is you, Luxes. You''re looking just as disgusting and pompous as last time we met."
The Goddess''s eyes flashed darkly at the wolf''s words. "Hmph. It''s Light Goddess for you, Wolf God. I graced you with my name millennia ago because you were still a cute little puppy back then, but now, you''ve grown to be quite disgusting. You''re not worthy of my name, mutt." She spoke, her words dripping with disdain.
"Hah. Not worthy, you say. I''d call you a bitch, but that would be an insult to my people. After all, unlike you, my bitches are at least good-looking." He laughed, eagerly goading her.
"Hmph." Luxia snorted, inwardly unsatisfied at how the exchange was going. Unfortunately for her, she was not used to fighting others with words, as considering she was a major Goddess, few dared cross paths with her like this.
Still... Her eyes closed briefly, deadly venom shining within them. The mutt would learn soon.
Very soon.
Chapter 4
The Wolf God''s eyelid twitched as he suddenly sensed a brief flare of malice emanate from the Goddess in front of him. She wasn''t even a millionth of his size, and yet, he knew better than to think size automatically meant power.
Still... While she wasn''t quite the Goddess he detested most, she was amongst those he absolutely despised. She had been, after all, one of his tormentors of his youth, and he would not forget those times so easily.
"What''s wrong, Luxia? I can practically smell your malice, Luxia. Tell me, Luxia, how does it feel to stare down at your mistake, Luxia?" He goaded, teeth the size of buildings showing through his curling lips.
"Shut up, you disgusting mutt. What, aren''t you going to ask me for the trade? Isn''t that your job? If you get on your knees and beg, maybe I''ll consider it." The tiny Goddess snarled, the unicorns in front of her neighing at the tension growing between the two divinities.
"Trade? Hah! I haven''t survived through all your disgusting scheming because I''m a fool. You think I can''t figure out the fact that you would never have dared send someone I hate as much as yourself here if you were serious? I''m just waiting for you to spring your trap, you disgusting vermin." He sneered, the giant and complex runes on his skin beginning to glow with a dark light.
Luxia''s golden eyes flashed, power coursing through her. Spears and swords of light appeared around her by the millions, a protective shield appearing around her unicorn-drawn carriage. "Hmph. So what if you know? Those abominations that you dare call monarchs are nothing but fools. You think we don''t already know that you know we were never serious?" She roared, all pretense at this being a friendly exchange vanishing.
The Wolf God seethes at her words, wishing he had the power to destroy her where she stood. For her to dare call his benefactors fools, she deserved nothing more than death, not even counting all the torment she''d forced onto him. However, he was all too aware of the power imbalance here, and with one last sneer, he fled.
Luxia let out a loud war-cry, the millions of powerful weapons floating in the air charging towards the massive wolf in front of her. They''d long since locked down the space around here, and considering she was considered one of the fastest gods in all of Tierra, there was little chance of the Wolf God escaping.
Still, a cornered rat is the most dangerous kind of rat, and she had no want nor need to see what kind of trump cards the Wolf God had up his proverbial sleeve. With a wave of her hand, her unicorns charged forward, their speed quickly overtaking that of the titanic wolf.
Three immense auras flared in the distance, only to be met with three other equally powerful auras. Luxia grinned, seeing their plans coming to fruition, watching as the Wolf God came to an abrupt stop as she appeared in front of him, blocking off his path of retreat.
The Wolf God''s massive eyes flashed dangerously as he let out an earth-shaking howl, the previously bright skies above filling with dark, ominous clouds. Opening his mouth, a tidal wave of shadowy wolves flowed out, charging towards the Light Goddess as he tanked the numerous weapons of light coming at him with his body alone.
She let out a dismissive huff, a spear of light appearing in her hands. With ridiculing eyes, she simply waved it towards the incoming tsunami of shadow-born wolves, causing them all to evaporate through her control of the surrounding light.
"Space God, hurry up!" She roared, causing the Wolf God''s heart to pause for a beat as his eyes widened. With a growl, he swept the space surrounding them with his divine sense, forcing a previously hidden figure to come out.
"Damn it, Light Goddess! This wasn''t part of the deal!" The Space God screamed as he was forced to block the powerful divine sense of the Wolf God, blood trickling out of his mouth.
Luxia sneered at the mercenary God, ignoring his complaints. Instead, she turned back towards the Wolf God, who despite having suffered an entire wave of attacks from the Light Goddess, looked to be relatively unharmed apart from a few singes here and there.
"Your defenses are truly as extraordinary as they say, Wolf God. However... You won''t be able to resist this." She laughed uproariously, feeling their scheme coming together nicely. The massive Wolf God growled, feeling a tinge of fear as he furiously tried to think of just what the Civilized Faction was trying to achieve.
Killing him would bring them satisfaction, sure, but it would without a doubt cause the Beast Faction, who had previously remained fairly neutral all things considered, to immediately throw their entire support behind the Hell Faction.
He just couldn''t understand what they were trying to do. Why was the Space God here? He was an unaffiliated God, a mercenary of sorts that sided with whoever offered him the best benefits, so while he could understand why he was here, he couldn''t comprehend why the Civilized Faction would bring such an exotic God to this conflict.
"Are you done?" Luxia asked the Space God, temporarily ignoring the Wolf God, who didn''t look interested in attacking them quite yet. The man nodded, a bright grin slowly emerging on his face as he wiped the corner of his mouth with his sleeve, getting rid of the remaining bloodstains.Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
"Yes, monarch. I will need your entire power to activate this, however. The Wolf God is far too much for me to handle alone." He answered respectfully. The Goddess nodded, briefly glancing behind her and using her divine sense to examine the battles happening behind her.
''They should be able to hold those three off for a little while longer.'' She concluded after a brief inspection, knowing full well that her three fellow monarchs weren''t as strong as the opposing three beast monarchs. Thankfully, however, they were more than able to stall them for a while at least.
"Good. Let''s do this before their reinforcements arrive." She nodded, massive amounts of divine energy flowing off of her and into the Space God.
The Wolf God''s sixth sense for danger practically began blaring as his fur stood on edge. Turning around, he immediately began fleeing once more, only to suddenly come to an involuntary stop.
Complex space runes surrounded the entire area around the three warring Gods, looking far different than the runes on the Wolf God''s skin. Space around them began to crack as more and more power flowed through it, some of the cracks even spreading onto the Wolf God, causing him to let out a howl of pain.
He struggled against the bindings locking him down, shattering quite a few of them. However, more simply appeared, keeping him nice and still for whatever nefarious plan the two gods cooked up.
"Bastards! Dishonorable sluts! Flea-ridden rats, all of you!" The Wolf God roared, the runes on his skin practically shining by now as they boosted his power to the absolute maximum, which unfortunately was not enough. He could shatter the binding runes, but they just kept on coming.
The Space God''s complexion was pale, but there was an almost mad glint to his eyes as he didn''t hesitate to continue receiving energy from the Goddess next to him and powering the massive spell surrounding them. Even Luxia''s face was starting to lose color from how much energy she was using, but she didn''t let up.
Some distance away, the six monarchs currently exchanging furious blows with each other abruptly sensed what was happening over in the distance as the containment runes that had kept the events hidden so far shattered. The Blood God''s inhuman face that resided within the sea of blood that made up his body grimaced, a bad feeling suddenly appearing in his heart.
"Not good. Battle Goddess, use me!" He roared, the ocean of blood abruptly charging towards the titanic Battle Goddess, who opened up her arms.
Within moments, the two fused together, their combined aura practically exploding outwards. The three opposing Civilized monarchs grinned at the sight, knowing that their enemies were desperate if they were resorting to such dangerous methods.
As the battle between the six monarchs picked up in both intensity and ferocity, the Wolf God was being forced into a more and more desperate situation. It''d been a long time since he''d felt this powerless, and he hated it. Hated it enough to call upon his ultimate attack.
However, before he could do so, something abruptly snapped. There was no sound and no shockwave, and yet, every single God within Tierra, be they minor or major, felt it.
The space next to the Wolf God, having been abused so badly by both a rampaging peak medium God, as well as a specialized Space God being supplied energy from a major one, shattered.
The Wolf God''s eyes widened, and before he could even let out any sounds, he was sucked into the rift that had formed. The Space God and Luxia were also almost sucked in, but they were able to resist due to the distance between them and the rift, as well as the Space God''s interfering.
Just as abruptly as it had opened, the rift closed, shattering all the runes that had been present nearby. The Space God abruptly lurched forward, blood oozing out from every orifice on his body. Still, he had a giant grin on his face.
"I''ve done it! I''ve bloody done it! A space rift, we actually managed to create a space right!" He yelled in excitement. The Goddess next to him nodded tiredly, practically all of her energy having been drained.
The next second, her three fellow Civilized monarchs appeared next to her. The three Beast monarchs also appeared, their faces grim. All six of them looked banged up, with the Civilized monarchs looking especially bad as they had to resist the furious assaults of three more powerful enemies.
"You... How dare you..." The Claw God seethed, his mutated body practically oozing disgust. "You dare lie to us, entrap one of our own, and actually prevent us from rescuing him!? You''re suicidal, that''s what you are!" He roared, only his firm will preventing him from charging at the enemies in front of him.
"The Hell Faction will have a field day with this, and we''ll drag the location of the Supreme''s Mausoleum from your screaming souls." The Blood God murmured, his body having returned to its humanoid form.
The Space God looked fairly creeped out at the sight of the three seething Beast Gods, not having been fully informed of the machinations behind what he''d considered to be a scientific experiment.
However, the four Civilized monarchs looked suprisingly calm, smirks evident on their pale and bloodied faces. Aeria stepped forward, her arms cockily held in front of her chest as she sneered. "I doubt you''ll dare join the Hell Faction, considering only we know the secret to rescuing your mutt friend."
Her words stunned the three opposing monarchs. There were a few seconds of silence before the Battle Goddess began to laugh, a frankly creepy and mocking sound. "You think we''ll believe you after the shit you just pulled!? Get off your high horse, wind slut." She sneered, her eyes practically radiating anger.
"Hmph. If you don''t believe us, just ask this lowly mercenary. He''s the one who gave us the key, and he knows more details than we do. Besides, if you don''t believe the mutt to be alive, just check on his priests. Do send us a message when you come begging for his location." Luxia laughed as she mocked the three beastly monarchs. The four Civilized monarchs exchanged brief glances with each other before promptly giving the Space God the proverbial boot and high-tailing it out of there.
While getting rid of the Wolf God, even if only temporarily, was obviously a cause for celebration, their scheme wasn''t quite over. They were well aware that the Beast Faction would come to them, and when they did, the Civilized Faction would be able to drag out quite a few concessions from them.
Meanwhile, the abandoned Space God looked on with wide eyes as his previous allies abandoned him, and as three furious Gods pounced on him, there were only two words he could use to describe his situation.
"Oh shit."
Chapter 5
Pain was not a concept foreign to the Wolf God. He had been tortured before, burned alive, had his limbs ripped out, and had once even been soul-searched by a now long-dead bastard. Compared to those things, however, being forced into a spatial anomaly was certainly a different experience.
It wasn''t necessarily painful, per se, and yet, it made him want to scream and cry in pain. The void around him pulled at his flesh, trying to rip him apart. However, his body was simply too strong to be destroyed like this, allowing him to persevere.
Had he been a lesser wolf, he would have said that whatever journey he''d been forcefully brought through lasted an eternity. However, with his divine senses, he could easily tell that it had only been 18.62 seconds in total.
At last, he was released from whatever dimension he''d been thrown into, and finally found himself within a more material plane, something that filled him with joy even though every single cell of his body ached.
Well. This kind of pain he could deal with, he was used to it, after all.
It had been a fairly normal day in Tokyo, with people going about their daily lives. The children went about their day, playing video games, studying, or whatever else children did, while the adults also did whatever it is they do.
Tourists ran around the historic city with open mouths and curious gazes, while businesses catering to them silently sucked their wallets dry.
All in all, it was a nice and average day, with perfect weather and a generally jovial mood all around. Naturally, this all changed, when the fire nation att skies abruptly began to darken out of nowhere.
Had it been simple clouds, then that would have been the end of it. However, as people around Tokyo began to notice, cracks began to form in the skies. Long, black lines that came and went, some lasting as long as a few seconds while others lasted only a fraction of a millisecond.
Then, after a few minutes of this, just as people began to record the strange event, a single, absolutely massive crack formed in the skies. Unlike the others, this one also quickly split open, revealing a sort of passage inside of it.
From it, a titanic figure fell downward, quickly slamming into the city below and immediately flattening a large chunk of it. Hundreds of thousands died immediately, through no fault of their own nor of the titan who squashed them like bugs.
As the large crack in the sky closed and the dark clouds cleared, sirens began to blare everywhere within the city and beyond as people began fleeing en masse. A few mad conspiracy theorists had begun shouting that the end times were here, and with the general chaos, there were a few who actually believed them.
As various aircrafts took to the skies to inspect just what the hell had happened, satellite images began to arrive, quickly spreading through the internet, and thus, through the whole world.
The massive figure of a black wolf greeted them, its belly quietly rising and falling as it still breathed. It had several harsh cuts through its body, but strangely, no blood flowed out.
The Japanese government was quick to call for a general lockdown and evacuation of the area, even as the military rushed in to help the very lucky few who''d somehow managed to survive the impact of the wolf''s arrival. Few dared to approach the titanic form of the wolf, but for those that did and actually managed to touch the wolf, they found it''s fur and skin to be harder than anything they could think of.
For such a strange event to happen in the middle of one of the leading nations of the world, the news of this spread very quickly. Soon, questions began to be made, some accusatory, some curious, and some opportunistic.
In the midst of all of the sudden chaos and panic, the wolf''s eyes opened. If you come across this story on Amazon, it''s taken without permission from the author. Report it.
Divine sense lashed out from the Wolf God, not to cause harm, but to inspect. It had been a long time since he''d been forcefully knocked out, but the forceful expulsion from the space rift had been more than enough to do so. After sensing no immediate danger to himself, the Wolf God got to his feet, grimacing at the wounds.
They''d heal soon enough, but it was still annoying that his body had actually been injured to such an extent. Not even Luxia, a major Goddess, had been strong enough to damage him significantly. Sure, she could have done so had she actually tried her hardest... But still, it was the thought that counted.
Spatial rifts were dangerous. He kind of regretted not researching into spatial magic a bit, having spent practically all of his focus on any and all magic that could strengthen his body instead. Oh well, no use crying over spilled milk.
With his thoughts not more clear and his wounds quickly closing, the Wolf God took the opportunity to inspect his surroundings. He glanced downwards, idly noting that he''d done quite a lot of damage to whatever civilization lived here, and that there were quite a number of dead bodies squished.
There was no guilt, for he had done much, much worse before. Still, he frowned a bit at the unnecessary deaths, promising himself he''d one day be strong enough to never be forced into a situation like this.
His eyes moved from the pancaked ruins beneath him and over to his surroundings. There was a city around him, and he was actually forced to blink a few times in disbelief, as he saw just how many humans lived here.
He only grew more curious as he examined the city further, finding many things he felt familiar with and yet struggled to remember.
His eyes were drawn a bit higher than the city, watching the strange metal birds as they flew and hovered around him, keeping a respectful distance, with only a few daring to come closer. He easily caught one of them with his divine sense, bringing it up to his face and closer to his eyes.
He could feel a few humans residing within the bird, and the more he looked at it, the more he felt as though he could recognize these... things. He''d always bragged about having a perfect memory, as many Gods did, and yet, apparently his memory wasn''t as perfect as he''d thought it was.
It was only when he used his hearing to listen in to whatever the people inside the metal bird-thingie that a spark of recognition appeared within him. The words felt oddly familiar... Kaiju.
Kaiju... Kaiju... He struggled to remember just where he''d heard the word from, all his other worries temporarily pushed to the back of his mind so that he could fully focus on this.
Abruptly, he remembered. Wasn''t Kaiju the word for monster or something in that one language he''d been learning oh so long ago, before he was kidnapped?
His eyes snapped downwards once more, his vision easily piercing through the wall that was distance and examining everything. Cars... Yes, those metal boxes were cars... Trains... Airplanes...
He felt a headache incoming. Had he been thrown back into his previous world? But why? Did they think he could not grow stronger within a manaless world? Surely the Civilized Gods were not so stupid, right?
His mind whirred full speed as he tried to figure out just what those bastards were getting at. He''d more or less understood that they wanted to hold him prisoner, in a way. He had no idea how to return to his world, and knowing that those bastards had kidnapped him once already, they surely had a way to know the coordinates of this world or something.
He grimaced, slowly coming to a dark realization. They wanted to use him as a bargaining chip, and knowing his fellow faction members, they wouldn''t hesitate to give up some benefits in order to rescue him. However, the Civilized Faction surely wouldn''t just give up their hostage so easily...
He harrumphed, deciding that those thoughts were for another time. Thankfully, his connection to his priests and priestesses had not been severed, so he sent them all a message stating that he was fine, although trapped in another world. He ordered them to immediately summon his fellow Gods and inform them, before focusing back on his more local situation.
He frowned when he felt something that could barely even be called a tap on his skin. Looking at the source of the feeling, he saw that one of the planes surrounding him had dared to shoot something at him... Which wasn''t exactly the smartest thing to do.
Squashing the plane into a tiny metal ball took barely a thought, his divine sense easily overpowering any and all resistance the metal bird offered, which admittedly, wasn''t very much.
Letting out a howl of anger and sadness, the Wolf God bounced up, his feet easily finding purchase within the air. He needed to find a place to think, preferably one where he wouldn''t accidentally squash thousands of humans by accident.
After all, these humans were innocent, just like the few that lived within his empire. Unlike the humans under the Civilized Faction, he had no reason to hurt them, and no desire to do so.
With one last, almost apologetic, glance at the half-ruined city behind him, he began to run towards one of the tallest mountains he could feel, knowing full well that it was barely a tenth of the size of his favorite mountainous abode... Still, he''d make do, just as he''d always done.
Chapter 6
The entire world had been thrown into chaos with the appearance of the Titan Wolf, as it came to be known. Conspiracy theorists and religious extremists immediately took the front stage, some claiming that the beast had been sent by God to deliver punishment onto the Earth, while others claimed the beast was an agent of the devil.
Japan''s population was shocked, to say the least, and many cried for blood. The final death tally from the monster''s impact resulted in approximately six hundred thousand people dead, something dwarfing most natural disasters.
However, all of this was lost on the Wolf God. He didn''t really care for the consequences of his actions, especially since he was fully aware that it was practically impossible for humanity in this world to kill him even if he simply stood there, taking whatever they threw at him.
Instead, as his figure blurred forward, he finally reached his destination, the tallest mountain in the world. It was barely his own height, not to speak of his length, but it would have to do for now.
He first grabbed and removed any and all humans and animals on it, placing them a few dozen kilometers away. Then, he allowed his divine energy to run through the mountain, enlarging it and creating a nice and large cave deep within it. By the time he was done, the mountain had grown by well over a dozen or so times over, making it a barely acceptable abode as far as the Wolf God was concerned.
Sure, he could just shrink himself, but it felt uncomfortable. Besides, it''s not like he had any real reasons to disguise his presence. He placed a few restrictive runes around his new home, designed to not kill, but rather simply block any attempt at entering. Then, he teleported himself in.
Curling up around himself, he allowed his eyes to close. Some rest was needed right now, especially to finish dealing with his few remaining wounds, as well as to restock on his supply of divine energy. Luckily for him, mana had long since become obsolete to him, or else he would have been in trouble. After all, finding mana in a manaless world was practically impossible.
Although... He cracked one of his closed eyes open, staring at the location where he''d been thrown into this world once more. Technically speaking, it might not remain a manaless world for long, all things considered.
Sighing, he rested his head on his paws. He''d deal with all of this later. Sleep was necessary as of right then and there.
News about the Titan Wolf''s new location quickly spread around the world, as well as images about the new Mount Everest. The people who''d been somehow teleported off of the mountain beforehand all reported suddenly feeling as though a giant hand had grabbed them, and practically everyone described the experience as not being painful.
Watching all of this with a concerned eye, U.S. president Bump remained silent as his various advisors raged within the White House''s chambers.
"President Bump, this is insane! Our people are going to riot if we do not give an official response to the appearance of that... thing. What should we do?!" One concerned man asked, his beefy face somewhat sweaty from all the stress he''d been going through that day.
"Mr. President, the Japanese prime minister has just called us! You may want to hear this." Another woman spoke, quickly hushing up the chamber as Bump just nodded silently, picking up the phone handed to him with a silent thank you.
A few minutes later, and a few, curt answers from Bump, the overweight president put down the phone, sighing deeply before shaking his head. "Mr. Hoshito is demanding for a summit between all the leading nations in the world to respond to the crisis. Naturally, we will attend." Bump said, quickly causing a commotion amongst the various politicians.
Similar scenes happened across the world, many nations choosing to participate, even if only because not doing so would look bad in the public eye.
However, all of this was still some time in the future. While the wolf''s arrival was sudden and unexpected, the real chaos would arrive later. Already, scientists and religious experts began to question everything they knew, especially after reviewing the footage of an airplane being magically crushed by nothingness, as well as the images of a kilometers-long wolf running on thin air.Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site.
And, in the midst of all of this, one school girl''s life was about to change drastically.
Rosie, like all the other teenagers across the world, was practically enthralled by the story of the giant wolf. Her school had already opened up various classes and clubs to discuss and debate on the various what, whys and hows of the wolf, and just like her friends, she''d quickly signed up for a few of them.
It was in the midst of one of these classes that her life''s direction took a turn, whether that be for the better or worse, who knows.
"Tom, keep it respectful. Do not insult your classmate''s religion." The teacher, Mrs. Patrick, warned. Tom, a gangster-looking boy with a hobby of making other''s life miserable, just nodded lazily. His eyes, however, spoke more than enough about just how much he was listening to her words.
Rosie glared at him, feeling irritation building up in her chest. She absolutely hated Tom, both for picking on her friends, as well as his attitude. To her, he was the exact sort of person that shouldn''t be allowed near parties with alcohol, for fear of what sort of stuff he''d put in her drink.
As the class finished and she started packing up her things, she felt an abrupt sting on her buttcheeks as someone slapped her. She let out a yelp and jumped forward, immediately turning around to grace the bastard with a death glare.
"Ooh, spooky. What are you gonna do about it, four eyes? Cry to the teacher?" Tom grinned, knowing full well that she wouldn''t. He was the son of the principal, after all, and if they went head to head, the bastard would get special treatment.
Her lips trembled, and she felt her eyes getting wet. She angrily wiped at them, gave one more glare at the bastard, and then stormed off.
Her friend looked sympathetic as she waited for Rosie next to the school exit. Honestly, she was just glad the day was over. "The school really needs to get a new principal if his son acts like this." Rosie commented, bitterness still burning hot within her.
"Yeah... It really does." Her friend sighed, one hand going through her hair as she looked up at the sky. "Say, wanna come over at my place tomorrow? We can hang out a bit, talk with the girl gang and see what''s up on the news!" She excitedly asked. Rosie nodded, a small smile appearing on her face.
However, just as they left the school grounds, Rosie abruptly felt something wet splash all over her face. She screamed as she felt a slimy feeling ooze down her hair and shoulders, a disgusted look quickly appearing on her face as she stared at the gross green... liquid... on her.
She ignored her friend''s grossed out yells as she looked up, finding one of Tom''s gang members idly sitting on a branch above them, a satisfied look on his face as he laughed out loud. She could hear the rest of Tom''s gang laughing next to the tree.
For a moment, Rosie saw red. She grit her teeth, her hands clenching hard enough to hurt, and something seemed to be burning her up on the inside. With an angry scream, she pointed at the bastard above her, wishing she could just light him on fire or something.
And, strangely enough, the next thing she saw was indeed him being lit on fire as a cone of fire shot out from her finger, roaring as it charged towards the teenage gangster above her.
The poor guy''s eyes widened drastically as he practically threw himself off the tree, landing in a painful heap as he barely dodged the fire cone. Instead of the tree catching on fire, though, everything the fire touched was directly turned to ash, something normal fire certainly would not normally do.
Rosie''s mouth hanged open, forming a small o as she looked at her own hands in astonishment. Her friend also looked stunned, not to mention the gangsters nearby.
"What... What the hell was that!" Her friend finally said, practically screaming. Before Rosie could even answer, she suddenly felt as though she could not move, her words dying in her throat.
An inhuman, raspy voice resounded in her ears, causing chills to run down her spine. "I knew I''d felt something here. What an interesting combination... So this is what happens when a manaless being enters in contact with mana..."
Rosie shivered even more, her eyes widening as she felt an invasive sensation suddenly spreading through her, examining her thoroughly. It was an intensely uncomfortable feeling, and she instinctively fought back.
It was all for naught, however. After a minute or so, the sensation stopped, and the raspy voice spoke once more, a satisfied undertone in it. "Aaah... Good, good. It seems this world''s not as hopeless as I''d imagined. Girl, I am the Wolf God, master of the Northern Empire and archduke of the Beast Faction... But I suppose those are meaningless words to you. Come, we shall speak face-to-face."
Rosie practically had no time to even comprehend the strange voice''s words before her world went black, her consciousness abruptly stopping.
Unbeknownst to Rosie, her friend watched with wide eyes as Rosie began to glow and levitate, her body rising off the ground as dark light shined from her eyes, mouth, and nose.
And then, Rosie vanished.
