《Displaced Emperor Conquering The First Universal Plain》 Chapter 1 Lets get started! Chapter 1 As the sun appeared over the horizon, a solemnly figure stood on a cliffside deep in thought. If someone was there, they would have noticed his serious expression and a big frown on his face. Atos was a little lost. He was in the middle of a project of his when he suddenly found himself on this cliff. As he looked down, and the golden rays of the sun started to permeate the forest and its surroundings he could only think about Earth and the beauty he might never see again. His equipment showed no connection to any of the satellites or communication stations that were deployed throughout his territory. He was yanked here, wherever the hell he was, and could not do anything about it! All the power, all of the protection he had amounted to nothing when something so improbable and so damn infuriating happened! Thought the lost ruler, while clenching his gauntleted fists and trying to burn a hole into the sun with his intensegaze! ¡°No matter what, I will get back to my people, no one will be able to stop ME!¡± He stated in a mild, but dangerous tone and finished in a furious bellow. Birds and several small animals were disturbed in his surroundings, but he could not care less. As he was torn betweenuncertainty, rage and curiousness! He has been alive for a long time now, and of those years he spent fighting the majority of! He would NOT be fazed by this ridiculous, and unprecedent anomaly that happened to him! He had a goal, he had important people and despicable enemies waiting for him, he could not just get lost all of a sudden.... The leader felt that it was futile to froth in rage, as no matter how much he wanted to get back and do his duty, he would not appear in his palace just because he wished for it. Still, in his desperation, he did the thing that he thought he would never do again. After so many losses and so much suffering, both for him and his people, he wanted to forget about it. Wanted to discard it, as useless and stupid...yet, he could not! So, he settled down on his knees for one last time, and prayed, prayed for a solution and for his people to be alright even without him! He gave in to the oh so missed embrace of acceptance and peace he always felt when he did it. No matter how much he wanted to dismiss it, he felt that way whenever he remembered it before, and now while doing it again much more so! Atfirst,he did not notice anything strange, but when he reached the 5thminute in his prayer, something new happened. He almost stumbled forward in his heavy armor, but managed to keep himself from showing an unworthy display. When he wasstabilized, he looked around confused, and he was at a loss about what happened. There was no one in his close proximity, at least no one that he or his sensors could detect. This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience. Still, he felt it, he was sure of it! He received an answer. Something new appeared in his head, that was not there before. While his equipment did not manage to record the phenomenon, and the recording of the previous minutes showed nothing amiss, the knowledge in his head told otherwise. God, answered his prayers, finally. He could not believe it, and at first got really angry that he and his people¡¯s suffering was ignored for so long. Why did he not communicate with them before, if he did it now, was the question in his mind. Yet, when he went through his newfound knowledge he calmed down somewhat. His situation seemed to be not as dire as he hasthoughtbefore, it seemed, yet more complicated at the same time too. He seemed to be in a plain between universes, right ¡°above¡± his original one. This place was different form his own in two major things, and they were a special energy that existed inside it, and that it was an almost limitless place with previously unimaginable wonders. The more he read the message in his mind, the more he calmed down, and at the end he evenhada smile on his face. God, did not abandon them, he was just unable to help them directly before. This new energy seemed to be the connection that was missing, and now that he arrived here, he managed to make a connection between them. That he could not make a connection again, he tried numerous times, seemed to be because he did not yet have this special energy available for him. According to the message, God could only transport him now was because in his whole original universe, there was only enough special energy for it. God had been collecting this energy for years now, and had to use that small amount to bring him along so they would have a better chance against their foes. The reason he was not worried anymore was because this universe and his own had a gap between them. God said, that if he managed to use this energy, he could build a gateway between the two universes and if God helped him a little, they could even manipulate time a bit so he will arrive at the moment of his departure. It is still possible to open the gate with just the energy, but the time of his arrival would be uncertain then. Still, with both temporal and other magic mumbo jumbo together, he knew that he had around five hundred to a thousand years to prepare and reach this new goal of his. After that, the gate God opened would be closed and the two universes would have completely jumbled up time fields. It is a shame God was exhausted, and he could not communicate with him more, but he used up almost all of his energy just to take him here. In a universe where this special energy was so scarce, praying could only influence God in small amounts. That is why we could not communicate with him before. Without the link, that is this energy, he could only gatherminusculeamounts of power. The only thing that could compensate somewhat are numbers, but the situation was not the best at home religion wise. Still, he had to analyze this interesting energy, as it will most likely help the human race immensely! The possibilities were endless, and he was sure that with the help of this new world he isgoingtto reach unprecedentheights! After thinking everything through, it was already noon, and he realized that he just kept standing there on the cliffside like some baboon. He was a little embarrassed, and he thanked God that no one was around him. He was not this lost in thoughts, since the start of the war at home... And just like that, he ruthlessly suppressed the nostalgic feeling, and concentrated on his mission. He had a world to conquer, and he could not wait to get started! Chapter 3 Taking over for good Atos looked at his opponent, and he was somewhat satisfied. When he first arrived, he managed to destroy most of his opponents so utterly that they had almost no confidence left! The things he was doing for this first month were for one reason only, and that is for the warriors of the tribe to regain their confidence! For the first week, everyone was afraid of him... but who would not be? Even among these brutes, he looked something else. With his height around two and a half meters, he could not blend in easily even if he wanted. Of course, he had equipment for that, but that was for another time and another problem. Now, and here in this tribe he needed to do things their way, or they will never listen to him fully! You might be the sole dictator of a nation, yet, if you do not give them a reason other than intimidation, you will never reach the hearts of the people! And he wanted loyal, healthy and happy subjects, and not people that would cover if someone just mentioned his name! So, as he looked down from his height, he was happy, as this ex-leader seemed to have regained his confidence. This meant that he could start the real work and if everything went according to plans, most of the tribesmen will be awed by him, yet not afraid of him! The first step of building a nation was getting the trust of your people and listening to their opinions! You have to earn their trust so they will give you their honest opinion, and that way everything is going to be a hundred times easier than otherwise would be! He took some glimpses around the ring, and he could not help but feel satisfied once again! The people looked upon them with excitement, and not fear! They had that confidence that they had before he whacked it out of them. Yet, it was necessary! Now, he is going to defeat their strongest and biggest chance of defeating him, and after that they will be his to command. Fully, and voluntarily! As he stood there, in his normal attire, he could not help but lament the lack of culture these lost souls had. Even their strongest one only wore some garbs made of a beast¡¯s hide and a crude bronze axe at his right side! Now, after he prohibited fighting anywhere outside this ring, deaths were at an all time low and weapons usage against their fellow tribesmen was against the rules the only chance they had was to use it! Even inside the ring, other than serious blood feuds, it was prohibited to use sharp weaponry and if you killed someone there were going to be serious repercussions! He could not help it as he did not like the way they so easily killed each other, not to mention that they were now his subjects and it was foolish to lose them without reason when their numbers were not the highest either! Everything went through his augmented brain under mere seconds, while his opponent only managed to lung forward him. In fights for the chief position, the usage of weapons was allowed, otherwise how would he show them how utterly behind they are?! He saw everything in slow motion, the ¡°rushing¡± form of Bardul, the pathetic bronze axe that was on a collision path with his face. The concentrated, yet gleeful expression on his opponent¡¯s face, and the expectant look in the eyes of their audience. He saw and processed that all under the time Baldur just managed to swing his axe. They sparred for a few seconds, Atos giving his opponent some time to show himself and gave a perfect show to the audience that managed to ignite something inside them. The techniques he was using, the moves and styles they have never seen before. They were excited, as it was all new to them. Even his opponent seemed to be enjoying himself, and after some near hits, seemed to grap an opportunity that would get him his oh so wanted victory. Atos, however had other plans! So, when the weapon was only a few centimeters away from his face, Baldur¡¯s face went from gleeful to confused, then from that to flabbergasted! This novel is published on a different platform. Support the original author by finding the official source. Killing intent like he never felt before pushed down upon him, but the most unbelievable things was the arm that stopped his bronze axe. His eyes nearly popped out of their sockets, as he saw that sole finger keeping him and his newfound strength at bay. Only one finger! Bardul could not believe it, and the audience could not either! It was so ridiculous that he did not even notice his bleeding palm that was raptured from the sudden halt of the weapon. His jaw that was almost hitting the floor painted quite the comical site. Sudden silence was the result of this otherworldly and unbelievable thing everyone witnessed. Everyone was afraid once more! When they saw Atos taking out the axe from Bardul¡¯s hand, they expected this to be the end of him, but they were mistaken! Bardul already accepted his fate, as there was no way that this demon in human form would spare him. He would surely not, as it was already exceptionally strange that he lived after he was defeated for the first time! Yet, when nothing happened even after he heard a collective gasp from the crowd, he opened his eyes only to see the demon cutting open his thumb with the axe he just took! A booming and confident voice permeated the surroundings, and the words heard that day would mean the start of a new era and a new way of life for both the tribes and other people on the continent! ¡°Listen to me my subjects!¡± Came the first sentence. ¡°I, Atos of the dynasty of Dawn came here with a mission! A mission that will require the help of strong people like you! You might be afraid of me, but you have no reason to if you will follow me! I am a benevolent leader, and will listen to any of your problems with rapt attention, however beware as disobedience is out of question! If you have any problems that you would like me to know, tell me, I will listen and take it into consideration. The final decision is mine, however! Im not a demon, you saw me bleed, im not some god either because there is only a sole real one and that one is not me! God was merciful and sent me here to help you become something you never had the chance before! With my help, you will become even stronger, you already saw my training¡¯s results, you will receive delicious food like in the past month and many more! You only have to do one thing, and that is to OBEY!¡± ¡°Bardul, you, are going to be my direct subordinate! Your responsibility will be to deal with everyday problems, develop yourself, and listen to the people¡¯s problems! You will have to report to me every single day, and participate in a meeting that is going to be held once every week! This ¡®council¡± will be made up of the 3 most experienced people that im going to promote later on! I have spared your life twice, do not give me a reason to do it another time! Now you were made and example of, be proud as this is the first step in uniting the tribes of the great steppes.¡± Finished the last sentence Atos, with a lower voice directly into the ears of Bardul, who was still just standing there flabbergasted and gaping like a fish. Bardul did not know what to think anymore. This person in front of him, managed to defeat him twice, both times when he was feeling undefeatable. He gave him strength just to be defeated again. He wanted to feel outraged, yet that bloodboiling feeling did not come. He felt strangely okay with it. If his opponent was so out of his league then he could only blame himself and thank his opponent for letting him have the fight of his life. He was sure that no fight will ever rach the height he has been to now. He looked up on his towering opponent with a complicated gaze and just accepted him. This feeling played down inside most of the tribesmen, and they started to really accept him as their own. A booming laughter echoed and seemed to shock out everyone from their stupor. ¡°Now, my subjects, we have things to do! Of course, if any of you wish to go a round with me, I''m all in. If you manage to hit me even once, I might even teach you guys how to stop the axe with one finger and all. Other than that, the only way for anyone to learn that is a serious contribution to our tribe and being useful to me! You do not have to worry, and only need to tell your ideas to my advisor council that I will nominate at the nightly feast today! And they will not steal any of them, be at ease, as I swear on my name, blood and God that their fates are going to be worse than any of your nightmares if they do so!¡± While he was saying his speech he took the bleeding hand of Bardul in his own and mixed their blood together. "This will simbolize that i have taken you and your people as my kin and will do everything in my power to help you prosper! No foe will be able to defeat us, as long as we work together, and you listen to me!" He finished with this promise, then just casually strolled out of the ring, right into his own tent. Every person that witnessed this moemnt would forever remember it. Future generations would call this day the Start of the New era. And people would forever be greatful for the future this one day represented. Atos just ast down in his tent and thought about his people, both old and new, and promised himself that he was really going to everything in his power to bring forth a new and better world! Still, he could not help but like this feeling, the expressions of awe, the thinking expressions. He could already feel the winds of change approaching from the horizon, and it WILL sweep through the surroundings like a tornado! And no one will be able to stop it, not if he had a say in it! Chapter 4 Swift Skirmish There were no signs, nothing indicating what happened during close to two years in the Western Barbaric Lands. It started suddenly, but if it was anything, it was not the typical skirmishes that those Barbarians played between each other! ¡°Che,¡± Scoffed the baron in his mansion while reading the report about the recent changes that have taken place in those savage lands. They seemed to be up to something, yet the only thing they knew for sure about them was that the western tribes seemed awfully quiet lately! He ran over the information, lamented about savage barbarians and stupid convicts and then duly forgot about them. His family might have been exiled here years ago, but he still hated that those smelly barbarians that mothers used to scare their children to obedience with were so close to his domain. He long realized that they were just pathetic and uncivilized brutes that could not even maintain a basic formation, and only had bronze weapons of all things. This reality, and that he has successfully sold several of them before made them a hundred times less scary for him, not to even mention their defenses against them. Those convicts and pathetic fools will at least make good meat shields if anything would happen. His territory might have been the frontier one against Barbarian attacks, but there was a forward base on one of the biggest plateaus between two rivers that would easily repel any smaller raids. Not to even mention the speedy little boats they used that could relay him any message under a few hours'' time! He was not worried, as the tribes were split apart years ago and they would not be able to cause significant problems anymore. Or so he thought. And felt glee at the fate of those unsavory soldiers that soured his fun so many times. With so many convicts, it was only a time until they were killed and he looked forward to it! Not caring about anything but blood, and unfortunately that reflected upon his territory too, the Baron went down into his torture chamber to have some ¡°fun¡± with his recently captured victim. ¡°¡±¡±¡±¡±¡±¡±¡± Meanwhile, at the forward base. Soldiers loitered around the simple wooden fort they have been calling home for the last decade or so. At least most of them have been ¡°serving¡± their sentences in this boring hellhole that did not have any importance to anyone anymore. At least to them, it was just boring. The last raid against them could not even be called a proper one really, and the newer recruits only heard about it from those that were here when it happened over 8 years ago! But they had to stay, as almost all of them were criminals and there were professional soldiers with some experience even if only a few, it was enough and the punishment for desertion was death. The savages just kept fighting against each other and did not mean any significant danger to them while they were behind the fort¡¯s walls and the fast flow of the river surrounding them. They were at a perfect position, right below a humongous highland so it secured their backside against any and all intrusions. Their walls were made out of ironwood up to around the height of one and a half men. They had one watch tower on the top of the highland that could easily signal them if anything was out of the ordinary. But that was not going to happen, because that day the whole place was massacred in record time. Bodies littered the ground at the end of the swift fight, and the smell of blood permeated the air. Only the commander and the professional soldiers were kept alive. This, however, was already something that caused untold confusion amongst the surviving men. Barbarians were not supposed to show any mercy, not to even mention the phenomenal cooperation that was required to take the fort this easily. They wondered who these attacking men were. ¡°¡±¡±¡±¡±"¡±¡± He was looking up as he heard the sudden gong from the watch tower that signaled enemy attack. He was just opening his mouth to bark out orders, when the sound of conflict reached his ears from the courtyard. He was confused, yet as an ex general, he did not panic and ran out instantly! Unfortunately, when he reached the yard, it was already too late. All of the convicts were butchered like animals, and he only saw a few of his original soldiers fighting valiantly. He was ready to lounge into the battle when a sudden noise ceased any and all fighting within the compound.Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site. A deep and rumbling horn seemed to signal their attackers to cease the fight, so they regrouped and stood at attention near the entrance of the fort. He was amazed at their discipline, but did not dally and shouted at his disorganized troops to take up a formation at the entrance of the command building he just came out of. It was a solid, stone and ironwood construct, and with his soldiers he felt that they will be able to give these intruders a good fight if it was needed! However, when he could pay some attention to the entrance, he was flabbergasted! Rows upon rows of big, muscular people took up positioning on the two sides of the road and stood at such a rigid attention, he would have thought they were statues if he did not just witness them massacring is convicts! They were even wearing iron plates, if his eyes were not playing with him right now, and he might have been older but was still in the prime of his life! He was so focused that when all of them placed their arms on their hearts with lightning fast speed and at the same time, that he thought his heart was going to jump out of his throat that instant! If he could have paid attention, he would have seen that his troops were feeling the exact same. They knew that their chances were zero already, yet the figure that strode in through the gate nailed the top on their coffin. At least that was how they were feeling at that moment! It was a giant! And he was riding on top of a land dragon, for gods¡¯ sake! If they were not checking their sanity between each other with shaky murmurs and pale faces, they would have really thought that they were under some illusion or something. Yet, even him, who was a general has never seen something this ridiculous before. If those mages of the kingdom could conjure such realistic illusions, they would not waste it on something so unbelievable. Yet, here it was. The more the beasts approach him, and the more those strange plated soldiers advanced alongside them in perfect sync, the more he felt his heart beat at a faster rate. If he was surprised because of the sudden and swift conflict, and that was already hell of a surprise, then now he felt like when he had an audience with the king. No, he felt even more nervous! When the giant dismounted his impossible mount, the feeling just increased. As the ferocious land dragon that could easily massacre the strongest of knights, submissively lowered its body so its master could dismount him more easily, he could not help but feel intimidated and awed! Awe at this being in front of him, as he managed to do something that was right out from the legends, or could be easily the source of them in the future! Intimidation by the disciplined soldiers and the bearing of this whole military organization, and it was one, that he was sure of. A military, not some raiding party of barbarians or anything like that, this was an unprecedent military power that his country was not prepared for. ¡°General Alistair! It is good meeting you. I have been looking forward to hearing your story from your own mouth. I have heard about your exploits, and even your unfortunate exile by some idiots in the higher echelons. It is a shame, really, come and we can discuss this within a more comfortable environment.¡± Came the booming voice that would change Alistair¡¯s life forever. Of course, he did not know that at first, yet still went after him. This stranger strode into his house like he owned it, maybe he did already, thought the general with mirth. As he followed after him, his soldiers kept standing and having a stare down with their previous opponents, but he sent them a sign to keep them from anything stupid. They reached the lounge where they sat down at the small table that could only accommodate a few people. He was not bothered by this strange giant taking the main seat, as he felt that it was only natural. He sat down on front of him and looked up, into his eyes that seemed to contain gargantuan amounts of power and charisma, gulped once and just waited. This seemed to amuse the giant as he let out a good natured chuckle that managed to unnerve the still quite nervous ex-general. ¡°You do not have to be afraid, general! I¡¯m a magnanimous person and will not hurt prisoners of war, not to even mention that particular bit of reality that you and your troops are not prisoners either in my eyes right now...¡± Finished the huge man with a kind voice. Alistair was quite confused, so he asked a question, just like he always did when he did not understand something. He was here for a reason, of course, and this was a main one out of them. ¡°Sir..., I am sorry but I do not know your name, my lord. If you could enlighten me about that and about what you mean exactly with us not being your prisoners, I would appreciate it! This whole situation is unprecedent, so I will do anything if you promise me to not hurt my soldiers!¡± Said the soldier with a humble and genuinely curious but hardened attitude. And when he looked back up from the small bow, he used to show his genuineness, the smiling face of the giant greeted his eyes as he was leaning over the table quite close to his face. He then heard that deep yet kind voice again and he could not help but feel that he did something right, only if he knew what... ¡°Oh, my dear general, you are just like I hoped you would be! Come, I will tell you about a dream of mine, the future that I will achieve no matter what. And the present that the once, and even still quite savage ¡°barbarians¡± under my, Atos Dawn¡¯s rule live!¡± They slipped into a pleasant conversation after that, where Alistair even opened one of his prized wines, only for Lord Dawn to bring out an even finer one that he never heard about before. This seemed to be a pleasant relationship in the making, thought the ex-general, as he started telling his story from the start while this strange lord payed rapt attention to every one of his words. It was a strange feeling to be listened to this attentively, even more so by a Noble, but he liked it so he opened up like to no one ever before... Chapter 5 Future Capital, Demon Beasts, Magical Beasts and other info The fort did not see another conflict that day, and the two man took their time and talked long into the night. When they finished their conversation, Atos was pleased as this Alistair was even better than he imagined. Who knew that those nobles from the kingdom next door would be really so foolish? He met his fair share of them from Earth and knew many of them intimately, yet it was very rare for geniuses like this to be wasted away this badly! Even those haughty and useless nobles knew that they needed capable men, so they always tried to get their hands on capable ones, no matter their origin. Even if they were a little problematic they were more useful and so they were tolerated, as talents were always scarce no matter the place or even time for that matter. Yet, here he was,a genius general exiled by a pompous stupid and propably crazy brat that did not know better and sent him to waste away his life by managing convicts for defense against an otherwise unlikely enemy. That this skirmish happened, is the consequence of Atos being here, and otherwise it would not have happened. Even if it did, it would have not happened this swiftly and easily! This general would have most likely been able to ward off most attacks if he had a little time to prepar. Unfortunately, for them, they were not here to play and took the easiest solution, a surpirse attack. Well, their loss is his gain, so he is not going to complain. He really felt lucky that the first place he conquered was those ¡°barbarians¡± as they did not have that bad segregation between each other, so this way he had no nobles to fight with. Even if they lived, and still live to some degree, to fight, it was much easier to mold them into the better and new people they mostly became with his help. Those nobles, on the other hand, he did not have high hopes for. He did not have beforehand, but after talking with his new friend, he was even less so. He expected them to be bad, but not to this degree! It seemed that this ¡°noble¡± class managed to secure their position mostly with the usage of magic and other special magical materials. He expected it, really, when he first found out about these energies that could be harnessed by people. As the saying goes, absolute power corrupts absolutely, and if their noble status was not enough, they had magical energies at their beck and call. It is no wonder they behaved so stupidly and arrogantly. Even more so if it gave control over their fellow humans. Technology was more than enough for people to start thinking themselves as beings higher than gods before. So, when they had power like this, why would they hold back with their greed or selfishness?! There was nothing to rein back. What''s more, he heard from Alistair that most nobles were worshipping selfish and cruel beings as their gods that required human sacrifice and all kinds of evil deeds to feast upon. It was disgusting! There were rumors about nobles sacrificing whole villages just to sate their hunger for destruction and blood, but most of all, power. The only neutral seeming order so far was the royal family. Or they were just very good at suppressing rumors and keeping their secrets. Unfortunately, he knew that the chances of being good in a world where they could wield supernatural powers was scarce. Power corrupted, and even he had times in his past when he was nearly fully lost in the allure of power, and he did not even have this energy beforehand. He has been once close to becoming something he loathed and even now, he sometimes feels that the necessary evil he had to commit in the past and will need to in the future are unforgivable, no matter the cause... Yet, he knows they are needed, and it is better if he takes rensponsibility and commits these than the whole of humanity being destroyed by his misplaced morality. Now is not the time to be too benevolent and easygoing. This is one of the reasons that his territory has ultra-strict rules and laws to follow. If someone would commit pedophilia they are castrated, for example, and there is no mercy!. Then anyone who commits a serious enough crime, they might get implanted by a monitoring/mind-chip. The judging is done by him at the moment, at least for unclear and serious cases. He uses his tech and newly learnt ¡°Magical¡± senses to examine the person even closer and with his huge experience with people he was able to figure all of them out so far. Everything is punished severely as he can ascertain the legitimacy of the crime with close to a hundred percent precision. There is no place for mistakes and he wants to beat morals into his people even if it requires some unsavory means. They are necessary, even more so after he conquered all of the other tribes. His territory now encompasses the entirety of the Western Barbaric Lands and after the census he enacted, there were more than 500 thousand people under his command. Most of them even more savage than the first he managed to take over. Those were mostly from the Southern Barrens and they did not even have basic commodities like adequate clothing and tools. Some of those tribes even had to resort to cannibalism. Fortunately, it was not yet integrated into their cultures but he had to purge some demon worshippers that were on the verge of insanity. Flaying babies and eating them, sacrificing their weakest and things like that. Thanks to that however, in those tribes only the most brutal and strongest people were left alive. Those tribes he obliterated, took their strongest and implanted them with a mind chip that would guarantee their loyalty after some mental conditioning. They became new persons, with new personalities and started serving in his personal guard. The others that were in similar situations but were not fit for service were given the same treatment of brainwashing, with the chip implant.Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit. Things like small mind chips were not too hard to make with his available equipment. He had an inbuilt, miniature fabricator in his suit that could make small precision equipment. However, it can¡¯t make anything bigger than a 1x1 meters wide box. And, of course, very rare materials were still needed for most it, not to even mention his fabricator that deteoriated with every use thanks to its miniature parts that were too soft! However, it was perfect for his plans, as it let him build useful things like chips and other smaller equipment like cogs and glass vials. It was not like he wanted to advance society too fast, truly, he only wanted to advance them at a snail¡¯s pace. Earth¡¯s society suffered from too fast advancement and he had time. No matter how much he wanted to go back and save his people, the original ones, he had time and he is going to use it to build a stable foundation! This world needs him just like his original does and he will not act in haste and screw up something in his hurry. The mental conditioning worked by suppressing the previous, corrupt memories and helping the host to build up a new and healthy personality over it. It was not able to control people, just influence them and monitor them! Using these chips was the best alternative right before killing them, and no matter how much he hated slavery, he lacked strong soldiers and this way they were at least much more useful to him! Not to mention that he was always the firm believer of second chances, and it was easier too with mental cinditioning available. Most of those that were sentenced to death only had their memories suppressed, so most of them managed to build up a new life, while those truly wretched souls always fell back into crime and insanity. These new people even knew what happened to them, but after their mental conditioning that was mostly common human decency, they agreed that their present state was much better than the blood crazed murderers they were once before. They pledged themselves uncer his command even more so, as they felt that they had a serious debt for Atos helping them and gicing them a second chance. Of course, they would, as there is no person that had a healthy mind and would want to degenerate into something that was acting like a monster. The plan was advancing greatly, and he was looking forward to the future and the new civilization he was going to build. Taking over the neighboring Corrumpere kingdom would be harder but not overly so. Still, after getting information about the frontier territory to their East he was positive that they will be able to take it over relatively quickly and it will open up new opportunities for him. His ex-tribal people were too easily distinguishable from normal people so he could not even send them on infiltration missions even if he wanted to, not to even mention that they were built more for strength and not stealth. After herding them together, he started devising the best layout for their future capital. There was one bigger mountain range that connected the four Barbarian Regions in the middle. It had high enough mountains around a natural basin. It teemed with life, after purging it of magical beasts, domesticating those that could be tamed and imprisoning the others for future experiments or used as food if there was enough of them. We kept two of every species for later reproduction and other uses. The basin had several smaller and a few bigger waterfalls that would be able to provide energy in the future. In the middle of the basin, there was quite a good amount of space and one central lake that had rivers flowing out of it in several directions. It was so perfect for a settlement that it was scary, yet, in an almost infinite world like this it will be easier to find rare happenings thanks to the gargantuan size of it all. This might be just another fortuitous happening or a gift from God, no matter, it was perfect for my imagined capital. Next to the lake was a big plain that could accommodate millions if my estimates were correct, and that was only with present technology. It was unlike anything I have even seen before, truly a paradise. I called it Eden, and I think it is a fitting name in this fucked up world. Oh, did I tell you? We found demonic beasts at several locations. They differ from normal ¡°magical¡± beasts by using corrupted energy and being almost without any intelligence. They only live for savagery and to sate their murderous instincts, just like those unfortunate tribal people that worshipped demons and were corrupted. It seems that if a living creature is exposed to magical energy for a certain period and potency, it can trigger unnatural mutations. Even if that particular creature is unable to use energy originally, if it is saturated long enough with it it can gain powers but at the cost of its mind. The vessel can¡¯t process the energy and it overloads, becoming a grotesque monster. There are various versions of them, depending what they were originally, but they almost completely change in appearance and behavior too. There were several instances when they could not even determine what creature they mutated from, and only with Atos¡¯ genetic examination came out the truth, and it was scary! One of the biggest monsters they killed, where Atos even lost people for his ire, so he obliterated the beast quickly right after its deed, turned out to be a bunny! A bunny of all things! The energy saturation seemed to cause rapid cellular reproduction and mutation in the body, so much so that it became as big as an elephant yet kept most of its original build under the bulks of corrupted flesh, and its agility along with it. Not fully, of course, but it was still a tremendous achievement for an elephant sized animal to be that agile. If he did not have experience with stronger beings beforehand, it would have been hard to kill it, but he succeeded by using his energy weapon at the right moment so the shot flew down on its throat. It was lucky that there was only one beast like that where they found it and that it was almost completely mindless, because if it had any intelligence then they could have been in trouble. One thing became clear, though, and that was that this energy is not something that should be taken lightly. The corrupting energy was insidious, and Atos only managed to find it after hours of examination with the advanced sensors built into his suit. Yet, even that was risky and he had to interact with the energy as he did not find a way to store any of this magic energy in any container other than his body. Yet, he managed to keep it just on his palm contained within his own and being prepared to cut his arm off if it was needed! And the more he scouted out from his starting location, the more horrors he experienced. Some, even on the level of his home world, and it reminded him that even if God took him here this world was not safer, just had more opportunities and ways to use against the danger humanity can find itself in. It was hiding in the dark, in uninhabited places, in the big hole in his territory that seemed to lead right into the abyss. He had to stay vigilant, as even the kingdoms seemed to be ignorant about it, or just did not care in their constant corruption and struggle for power.
