《New Age Online》 Prologue ¡°¡°Hello my fellow Americans. It is a grave time for the entire world as we prepare for the coming ice age. It is a time of great fear and uncertainty for all of us. However we at Virtual Games Inc., have solution for the world. We have been working non-stop with the governments of this world to provide a way to have all of us survive this new age. The solutions that we have come up with is revolutionary. It is a brand-new way of life as we wait out this ice age. Our solution is a new game called, New Age Online. This game is run entirely by Artificial Intelligences without the need for human intervention. This game is only limited by your imagination. Yet, it is world much like our own with a few changes. You could be a magician, a superhero, a villain, an inventor, a soldier, and much more. There are magical academies, schools for heroes and villains, and great guides of inventors. This world is what you make of it. However, a word of advice, all actions have consequences and one must be willing to face them if they commit the deed. On a happier not, this game will be available to all people of Earth. Starting January 1st 2151, a person will be able to go to the countless underground facilities VGI and enroll into the program free of charge. Today is the first day of the enrollment of the program and lines are extremely long. We have been informed that there is room for all people in every facility that currently has lines. But, any person will have to understand that it will take time to process everyone. I personally cant wait for the chance to get into the game. As many of our viewers know, we currently are setting up a studio in the game as we speak and tomorrow¡¯s will be shot their instead of here. In other news, the ice continues to grow at an exponential rate causing many people to lose their homes. Have you figured out what you want to play as yet? The forums have been exploding form the people already in game.¡± Said George, as he walks down the stairs with a small government issued suitcase. ¡°No not yet, but you know do remember that I have to sign back up to work for the government until my contract ends right?¡± told Kathy as they walked outside into the waiting taxi. ¡°I know but, will they force you to choose a class that you won¡¯t want to play as for the next few years?¡± ¡°I already told you, I can play on the list that they gave me. Trust me George you don¡¯t want to piss off the government when they are allowing use to skip the lines,¡± informed Kathy. ¡°I know and thanks again for allowing me to come with you,¡± George said. George had thanked Kathy in almost all of their recent conversations about the new game. Unlike many other, George was looking forward to trying the new game and the opportunities that it provided. ¡°And as I already told you a thousand times, you are welcome,¡± Kathy said as the taxi raced off to the government facility. George and Kathy sat in silence for the rest of the car ride to their new home. As soon as they pulled up to the government facility, they were quickly ushered into the underground portion. As soon as they entered the room they saw two egg shaped pods that were shine and silver. It did not take long before they were about to enter the pods. But before they did, they said one last goodbye. Since they would most likely not see each other in-game for a few years. As the door of the pod closed on George, he could not wait to get in game and choose what class he would be playing as for the next few year. He only had to wait one second before he saw the words, System initializing¡­ Please Wait For Your Place in Queue, 199,986 of 200,000 people. NAO Chapter 1: Race Selection Place in Priority Queue: 1 of 755,009 Place in Priority Queue: 0 of 755,013 Contacting Creation AI ID: Asclepius Please Wait¡­. ¡°Well, I guess that I have nothing better to do.¡± George exclaimed while floating around in a black empty space. The space was completely dark except for the words on floating in the air. If an outsider were to look in at the space George was floating in, they would see nothing at all. This is because George has yet to choose anything regarding what his ingame character will look like. However his one saving grace, or hell for some, was the fact he was hearing what could be called elevator music. For George, it was hell since he hated it and could not wait to get ahold of the guy who made it. ¡°Sorry about the wait kind sir¡± a voice said into his mind or maybe the void, George could not tell. This voice had a strong, wise yet warming tone to it. ¡°Who-where are you?¡± stammered George after being startled awake due to the music. ¡°Well, we can¡¯t have that,¡± the voice said before hearing a snap of what sounded like two fingers. In an instant George was in a office or maybe library, he could not tell since the room have book selves on each wall with a door on the far side and a desking with a setting area in the middle of the room. On closer inspection, each of the wall had books relating to the medical field and George could see that the desk currently had a couple of books throw about. The desk itself was a bit chaotic with a note pad and pen setting perfectly in the middle, in a way the desk maybe chaotic but George could tell that in the chaos there was order to it. ¡°Have you had long enough examining my office?¡± said the old man, who was dressed like a doctor who just got home form work. His suit jacket was off but his tie was still nice and neat and his shirt unwrinkled. The man himself looked kind and understanding like a Grandfather. The question itself had no sense of annoyance even though the old man had to wait a few minute for George to get his bearings. ¡°Yes, sir. Sorry for taking up some of the time.¡± said George. ¡°It is perfectly fine. Understand able even, I don¡¯t know if I could survive sitting in that void for the four hours that you were in it for.¡± said the man. ¡°Just out of professional curiosity, why did you not choose to sit some where while you waited?¡± asked the man. ¡°I could have chosen to sit somewhere while I waited? I did not know or else I would have, no one told me that I could. So I assumed that this was the same for everyone.¡± said George. ¡°It was not the same for everyone since they could have chosen any where they wished while they wait. But enough of the past since it can¡¯t not be change lets talk about here and now. This is the most important choice that you have to make. You must choose your starting race. Then you must then choose your starting class. Both are huge choices that will effect the rest of your mortal life. For, if you choice incorrectly then you must live with the choice.¡± Said the old man in a stern voice that left no room for disagreement in any way. ¡°Before we start, may I get your name? My name is George and it is nice to meet you.¡± asked George. ¡°Of course, sometime I am so forgetful. My name is Asclepius, the god of health and everything relating to it¡± said the old man in a very sincere voice that had no malice or force behind it. ¡°Nice to meet you Asclepius. Is it just you doing the processing of new people?¡± asked George. ¡°Zeus¡¯ hairy legs No! You think that I could do all this be myself? No, the entire pantheon is doing it. So over one thousand god and goddess are currently doing processing.¡± Informed Asclepius. ¡°So how long will it take for everyone to get processed?¡± ¡°It will take about two to three real world days depending on how fast we get through the current queue.¡± ¡°What do you mean ¡®real world day¡¯? Is the time not currently the same?¡± ¡°No, currently we have a 10 to 1 time dilation. This will slowly increase as people get used to the their new home¡± ¡°So, I have been in the simulation for over a DAY AND A HALF?¡± ¡°Yes, now clam down it will only get longer as time goes on since the system is taxing itself trying to process each new person.¡± ¡°I think it is time that we started your race selection, I you will see several prompts telling you information about each race and the current standing in the area you are set to spawn in.¡± said Asclepius. ¡°Prompts? So you cant see the blue screens or the letters?¡± said George. ¡°No, only the person, you, can see what is in the blue screens but your eyes do look like they are looking far away when anyone uses them.¡± informed Asclepius. ¡°Okay thank you for that, can you tell me the main races of the area that I am spawning in?¡± asked George. ¡°Sure, the five main race in the Tennessee area are: werewolves, orcs, humans, elves, and dwarves. There are currently three races that have less than a thousand people, which are: dragonborn, genasi, and aarakocra. However, these races are currently locked to most players without permission from one of the in-game gods. Can¡¯t have an overpowered person in the world. Now back to the task at hand to see information about each race think about the race¡¯s name and it will appear.¡± Asclepius said in a way like a Grandfather would as he tried to explain how a tool worked and that he could use it if he wanted too. ¡°Thank you, I will need to read over each one before choosing.¡± replied George. ¡°You are welcome, if you need help just ask and I will try to answer.¡± George thought about which one he want to look at first. But have a good minute of thinking he decided that since he would read them all, it did not matter which went first. So George thought ¡®Human¡¯.
Human
The main stead of any fantasy world is human. Humans are not different than the ones that currently inhabit your old world. However the main deference is that all humans can use any type of easy to medium magic. All humans are incapable of using advanced magic without gene therapy.

At George did not know what to think about how basic the Human template was but he was interested in knowing how many stat points he got per level. So he decided to ask Asclepius about it. ¡°It depends on your class and how lucky you get.¡± responded Asclepius. ¡°What does luck have to do with choosing a class?¡± asked George.This novel''s true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there. ¡°It has everything todo with your class choices. Do you think we would give you all the same classes? No, each person will spin a wheel to see what their three classes they can choose from are. If you don¡¯t like any of the three then you can always choose the main class types for lower gains.¡± explained Asclepius. After taking a moment to think about Asclepius answer, George went put it aside since right now he had to choose what his starting race would be. This, he knew, would be a major choice since if he screws up the choice, then his entire life would be miserable until he got out of the game. So, thought about the next race, ¡®Werewolves¡¯.
Werewolf
The most noble of all the races in New Age Online. This race was first found in the New World. A popular myth about this race is that they can change other races into Werewolves. This is incorrect, it was made up as a scare tactic as way for monster hunters to hunt down the wolves. The only way to become a Werewolf is to be born one. There is a popular modern saying is, ¡°A Werewolf can be a loyal friend or a fierce enemy if you threaten their family.¡±

Elf
Elegant and beautiful in everything they do. The Elves in this region are the outcasts of Elven kind since they are known as the Red Neck Elves. Red Neck Elves specialize in things that go boom, bang and other loud noise. They are the nicest of all the Elves. If a player were to choice this race, they would attend an academy to ensure all players know what is to be expected of them in Elven Society.

Tree Home
The Trees are the Home of Elven People. All players start with there own home. However, this home can be lost at any point in time if a player does not take care of the tree. It is a symbiotic relationship people, not you take advantage of the tree and do what you want. Note: All Races start with home but, since tree are better it was noted as a plus for elves.
Great another race that will benefit from a team. Lets hope the last two are not the same and that I have the choose of being solo for a little bit. On to the next race, ¡®Orc¡¯
Orc
Big ugly and green, what is not to love about this race. Orcs are not the smartest of the races. They are also not the brightest either, never ever insult an orc. They were first found in the planes of North America and slow spread throughout the world. This is the most misunderstood race as many still consider this to be a monster and some will be attacked on sight.

Nice, this is a race I could play if I wanted to be solo. Overall nice stats and all balanced in a way that no one race could over power another. Time for the final race, ¡®Dwarf¡¯.
Dwarf
Dwarves are one of the few races you never ever wish to piss off. Unlike Orcs, Dwarves hold grudges. Dwarves live in large clans under the mountains of the World. No one knows where the first dwarven city was but everyone knows if you need something crafted you go to a Dwarf.

Overall, I think that I could play any one of these classes but I might want to check with Asclepius on what I should maybe play as. ¡°Hey Asclepius, I was wondering if you could give me a suggestion as to what I should choose my race as.¡± asked George. ¡°Sure, it all depends on your play style. I am not allowed to give any advice but I can tell you that you can play anything with any race. However, one race might be easier than the rest for that type.¡± informed Asclepius. ¡°So, I could be a mage as an Orc then?¡± asked George. ¡°You could very well do that. Although I don¡¯t think that would be the wisest choice given that they do not have a high wisdom or intelligence stat. But, yes it is possible to play as a Orc mage.¡± he said in a very wise tone. Suggesting that although something was possible to play as. The better question should be whether it should be played as a certain class. ¡°I think I might take a couple of minutes to review these races and figure out which one I want to play as.¡± said George. NAO Chapter Two: The Immortal Guard ¡°I know the class that I want to choose.¡± said George. ¡°Great, which one is it?¡± asked Asclepius. ¡° I think I will be choosing to become a dwarf.¡± said George. ¡°Interesting choice. May I ask why?¡± said Asclepius. ¡°Of course. Although I do not yet know the classes that I can choose from are. I know that the dwarves have the best starting stats. So, no matter what class I go with I will always have at least decent starting stats. I was think about going for a close up fighter or something similar to that build. So that is why I choose dwarf since they seem decent in that regard.¡± said George. ¡°That is valid reason as to why you choose that class. It is better than some that I have heard today. I happy that you thought the choice in a wise way to ensure that you did not wish to it change along the road.¡± said Asclepius. ¡°You should know that just because this is your current race does not mean it will always be your race. A person¡¯s race evolves a person does. You could start as a dwarf but end up as a vampire or any other thing that was either forced on you or you natural evolved into.¡± said Asclepius. ¡°So my race will change based up what exactly?¡± asked George while he looked around the office trying to see if any book were labeled as race evolving. ¡°Your race could change due to numerous things. You could be forceable changed by a ritual or even be changed based on what you do for a living. Not even the gods know how race evolutions work. Since one method could one on someone but not work on anyone else. So as much as I would like to help you out in that regard. I am sad to say that I am neither allowed to nor do I have the information into what you would evolve to.¡± Asclepius said as he snapped his fingers. One second the books were on the shelves but the next, they were gone and that remained was dust. ¡°Those are no use to you. Those books are all medical related and race evolution, while studied, is not within my realm as a god. So, you like everyone else, will be forced to figure out how to evolve from their base race.¡± said Asclepius. Just as Asclepius finished saying the last word of his sentence, a several lines of text appeared before George. Race selected: Dwarf Appearance changing based on race¡­ George felt like he was shrinking, and his body was getting more muscular. If George were to have been sitting in front of a mirror he would have seen that his body had contracted into a short but stocky young dwarf. His chest was wide, almost twice what it once was. His arms became thick with almost the width of a small tree trunk. However, the greatest thing that change was not on the rest of his body but his face. On his face grew a great beard that was thick and full of dark brown hair. For this was what his dwarven body would look like if he was a dwarf on Earth. Appearance change and locked in. Stats changed and are now reflected on character sheet. Please select class to move onto the tutorial. ¡°All better now boy. You are finally changed into your new race. This choice is final and can not be changed for now.¡± said Asclepius. ¡°Why do I have a beard?!?!¡± asked George or maybe yelled would be a better way to describe the amount of panic that he was going through. ¡°All dwarves have beards and it is against their religion to every cut a dwarfs beard. So, you now have a beard to insure you fit into the society.¡± said Asclepius. ¡°How about you drink some tea and biscuits before moving onto the history lesson of character creation?¡± As if it was planned, a tray of tea and biscuits appear out of nowhere.
After a few long minute George final calmed down enough to enjoy the lovely tea and biscuits. This was a really shock to George because he never really wanted to have something grow on his face. He always thought beards look kind of nasty with the way it would collect food and it was a pain to wash it all out. He also did not think his parents would have approved of him having a beard now. But, it did not matter anymore since his parents would not be in the same area that he was in. Since a person starting area was based on where the facility the person went under at on rather than having a person choose it. ¡°So, why do I learn about history of the world in the character creator of all places?¡± George asked as he chewed on the delicious biscuit. ¡°Some history is need to be covered, as it relates to the world at large. You will learn about local history when you enter the main area.¡± informed Asclepius. ¡°So, it is more of an overview of the entire history of this Universe?¡± said George. ¡°Yes and no, you will learn about how the world started and how mana can about.¡± said Asclepius. ¡°I think you have lost me again. I will just wait till you get on to the history part so I understand what exactly I am getting my self into.¡± said George. After a few more minutes of eating and drinking, George was finally full and ready to move onto the next part of the character creation. ¡°Okay for the next part, you will see the beginning of the Universe and how mana was first used by mankind.¡± As Asclepius said this the office was no more and they were standing, maybe floating, in a black void. ¡°This is where everything began and where it will also end.¡± said Asclepius as a bright light went of in the void, filling the entire area with life. ¡°This was the first time mana was seen. That explosion, if you can call it that, came from nothing and it became something. It is always good to remember this moment. For with light, darkness comes. But without light or dark, neither would have any meaning.¡± After a few moments the darkness returned to the area, as if the light had never came in the first place. ¡°It is time to see the birth of the stars. The markers in the dark, leading and guiding those few wanderers to them.¡± As Asclepius said this lights started to appear in the void as if they were lighthouse guiding those lost in a sea of darkness. ¡°Now, it is time for our world¡¯s star to begin.¡± Asclepius said as we moved to a new light that had appeared in the distance. Coming closer to the light, George saw that it was a bright yellow star and had nine planets surrounding it. ¡°This is our solar system. No two systems are the same each is unique in a way. For ours it is the fact we have two potential life baring planets.¡± Asclepius then zoomed into the two planets that were colorful. But as time passed George started to notice that one planet started to lose the color that made it unique in this solar system. But, that was not all. Off to left of the dying planet he saw a white streak coming towards the other planet. As time went on, George saw that it was a giant rock the size of a small moon. At that moment he knew that life on the other planet was about to end. ¡°This is a good lesson to remember boy, all life is fragile. One instant it is thriving and the next it is dead.¡± said the old man somberly. ¡°Yet, one should always remember that life will always find a way.¡± Just before the end of the planet was near, the rock broke up into a million piece each the size of a truck. But, this did not save the fledgling planet from the mighty power of the Universe. The planet went up in flames as the world burned. Once again time sped up, the young world slowly recovered from that mighty beast. The world turned green once more. As time slowly advanced they slowly zoomed into the only planet left in the solar system with life, George saw humans moving around and hunting. Then as if it was it was guide by someone. The humans started to build cities. But with cities came war and greed. George saw empires rise and fall. Great battles were fought over land and sea. He saw humans cross a great land bridge and colonize the world. But, with success came the chance for death. A great plague ravaged the world and the land bridge that was used for trading ceased to excised being swallowed up by the earth. But as always life found a way, the humans race recovers from each disaster. Humans continued to grow and thrive covering the entire world in their wake. But then the time stopped on a day in the 21st century. ¡°This is the beginning of the human race. We were native back then thinking we were the only race in the galaxy. If only we knew better, if only we prepared.¡± said Asclepius soberly and a quite tear rolling down his cheek. Just as Asclepius said this, George saw that the world stopped at the same time and had the same far away look in their eyes as if they were reading a prompt like he had. ¡°An unknown race created a system that used the mana that is around us. This is the day that system was integrated with Earth. This is the day that changed the fate of everyone on this planet. A day that human history would wish to forget.¡± The world once again sped up, George saw monsters spawn in the middle of parks and cities. Billions of people died in the first year the system was around. Yet with the death of so many, he saw 10,000 heroes rise from the ashes and pushed the back the tide of monsters. This was the day that the adventurer society was born. Humans on planet Earth now lived in great cities with wall on each side. But, just as the monster were dealt with and the humans slowly came out of the cities. That was when they came. George saw a five great portal rise from the earth. He saw thousands upon thousands of huge lizard like beings walking out of the portals. ¡°This was the species that created the system. They used it to find planets with life to enslave them and put them under their control. The heroes were there to push them back to their home world. But this came at a price, thousands of heroes were slain. By the end of the war, most of humanity was wiped out, everyone that was left lost family, friends, and loved ones.¡± Asclepius once again let out a quiet tear. ¡°During the war, many planets were destroyed. So humans allowed the newly freed slaves to come to Earth and help with the rebuilding effort. We have lost most of our technology at this point so it was like living in the medieval times but with magic. The thousand heroes that were left signed a peace treaty, enforced by the very system they created. The treaty said that neither speices would attack one another for two thousand year. After the war, the heroes returned home to find out they were worshiped by the people they freed and protected. This is how the gods became gods. We evolved from being human to something else.¡± While Asclepius was talking, he saw multiple worlds burn of all different colors and sizes. The battles that were fought were brutal and the aftermath of the war was even worse. All races agreed that they would stick to their home planets, if they had one left to go too. The rest of the races gathered on Earth, a battle ground like no other. Ever where that they looked they found bodies and the ground was scarred, new mountains and rivers were formed. But, life has a way. The races all took a chunk of land to rebuild on. As time advance each race slowly recovered, however, with recovery came war. The races constantly fought and the gods, tired of the wars and the destruction it brings, left the world into the hands of their mortal breathe. But, the time of the gods has return yet again. As the peace treaty that was sign only has a few years left. This time, the gods old and unwilling to fight again called fourth the new immortal adventurers. Asclepius allow George a few minutes to recover after their history lesson. George having experienced an outside perspective of the war and battles that were fought did not understand why the gods would leave the planet to fight this battle on their own. ¡°Why are you leaving this in our hands?¡± ask George. ¡°The time of heroes is long past. We fought and struggled for the races that live in that world. But, you saw how they repaid us. They fought war in our name. They killed in our name. Why should the rest of us die for a people that do not care for our whims. We asked for peace but instead we got war in our homes. We do not owe the people on that planet anything. Yet, we still called you adventurers to stop the enemy that will come.¡± Asclepius passionately said. The way he said it left no room or disagreement. ¡°You act as though you could have not stopped the wars on the planet.¡± said George. ¡°Peace, is all we asked for. Yet, no matter what action we took someone would always start fighting again.¡± Asclepius said in a defeated tone. They were both quiet for a few minutes while George thought about Asclepius words and how he might feel if someone he cared about died to defend a population that did not care at all. So, George thought it best to not bring back up the topic again. ¡°So, onto the last choice and thing that you must get done here. It is time for you to choose your class.¡± said Asclepius. ¡°What classes do I have to choose from?¡± asked George. ¡°Let us see. You have six classes to choose from. Four common, the ones everyone gets, which are: warrior, healer, mage, ranger. Then you have one rare: knight. Then one last one which is epic: guard. Those are the option that you can choose from.¡± said Asclepius. ¡°What are the rarities and what do they mean?¡± asked George. ¡°There are six rarities: common, uncommon, rare, epic, legendary, and artifact. For classes they mean the amount of skills that they get at the start and better starting stats. So, common and uncommon both start with one skill but there is a slight increase in uncommon classes. Then you have rare which will have you better overall stats and two skills. Then epic which will give you even better starting stats and three skills. Finally you legendary and artifact which will have you four skills and has the best chance at getting better starting stats.¡± said Asclepius. ¡®Okay, so I better start at the bottom and work my way up .¡¯ George was think to himself before selecting warrior and waiting for the prompt to come up.

A warrior is the most basic form of fighter in this world.

So, that pretty much confirms it. I will have to ask what a skill tree is after I have gone though each class. So, I guess all common class are going to be the same plus two to one stat and three free stat points. On to the next one, ¡®Mage¡¯.
Mage

That is all the basic classes. I can¡¯t say that anyone those are bad. They are all at least decent in some way. I supposed that if I don¡¯t like the last two then I can always go for the basic classes. So on to the next class, ¡®Knight¡¯.

Rank: Rare The guardian of the kingdom. A knight is a person that fights for the honor of kingdom in battle. Many wish to become knight be few are able to see it past the training that is required. You are able to get a head start on becoming the a knight be having a few of the skills that are needed already unlocked.

Wow, I can see why you would want to go for a higher rarity class. A person will get 4 more stat points than a person that just has a normal class. I can wait to see what a epic rank class will get you, ¡®Guard¡¯.
Guard
Rank: Epic Guards are the backbone of the kingdom. Guards are always the ones to defend their homes to their last breath. A guard lone guard should be fear if they are attack home. But no one should ever challenge a guard in a squad.

Level: 1 Effect 1: At least 2 Allies: +1 Vitality Per Ally Effect 2: At least 6 Allies: +4 Endurance Effect 3: At least 10 Allies: +1 Wisdom, +1 Intelligence Note: This bonus is only limited to being in effect if a person is defending a property.
Last Stand
A guard that is about to die but has not fallen yet. Will automatically activate this skill. This skill gives a bonus to stats and will be leveled based on class level ups. Level: 1 Duration: 30 seconds Effect 1: +10 Endurance Effect 2: +10 Damage Note: Can only use ability while defending a person or property.
Now that is a good class. However, it does have some down sides to it since it will only go into effect if you are not the attacker. But, it does fit the style that I want to play as. I am a more sit back and defend rather than the attack until the problem goes away kind of dwarf. Class Selected: Guard (Epic) Updating Stats in Character Sheet¡­ Unlocking Character Sheet Character Creation Status: Complete Transporting Player to Tutorial Teleporting¡­ NAO Chapter Three: Squad Introduction In the Fort of Undersvile, two officers of the military were having a heated conversation. This conversation was about a private that decided to drop out of the legion. On any other day this would have not been an issue, since it was normal to have privates drop out during or even bootcamp. No, what made this worse was the fact they had a squad match today against 2nd Company and that private was supposed to be the point man of the squad. So, the two senior officers of the Company got together to try and figure out what todo. ¡°Well, we are up poop creek without a paddle.¡± said the Dwarven Commanding Officer of 1st Company. Language Changed Due To Vulgar Words ¡°Gosh dang it, I have the system up my butt and I don¡¯t have enough people to run this squad vs squad match.¡± the irritated CO said. ¡°We could also just cancel the match.¡± said the Elven Executive Officer. ¡°If this was a normal match than I would.¡± said the CO. ¡°I know that we are against the 2nd Company but they will understand why we had to cancel.¡± said the EX. This was the problem, the Dwarven Captain just took over the Company and this was the first squad match that he had to do. While the Captain of the 2nd Company has been around for a long time. Just last night the Captain was boasting about his squad would win with tactics. Well, that was interesting to say the least. I hate teleporting now, it made my insides feel like they were falling out. Then when it finished I it felt like someone kicked my in my sensitive place. I will never, ever teleport again. I would rather be kicked in my sensitive place then to teleport. Why do I keep on thinking ¡®sensitive place¡¯, ¡°Why in the underworld can¡¯t I say, ¡®Boy¡¯s Sensitive Place¡¯!¡± George accidentally says out loud. ¡°Well, I do believe that is the best introduction I have seen yet in this squad.¡± someone said behind him. George tried to jump around quickly but, he failed the acrobatics check. George was on the ground halfway between his start point and his intended end point. New Skill: Acrobatics Novice Level 1 George quickly waved the screen that popped up away, as he intended to read that later. ¡°Hahahaha, I love this guy Wings. Can we keep him?¡± asked a person that was standing off to the left. At that moment, George finally took a glance around where he was. He saw a big building in front of him, the building looked like a dormitory that was five stories tall and about a football field long. Behind the building he saw a rough stone wall with guards patrolling on the top. The wall extended about half a mile in both directions before meeting a corner that George could not see because of the other dormitory-like buildings that lined this side of the fort. Each dormitory-like building was the same length and width as each other. George refocused on the building and front of him and noticed a sign that said, ¡®Guard and Investigation Battalion, 1st Company Barrkets.¡¯ George also saw four guys standing in front of the building. ¡°Sorry about that. Nice to meet you, I am George. The new squad member of Banshees.¡± said George quickly. ¡°Well George, it is nice to meet you too. I am Jessie Cane, aka Wings, the Squad Leader of Banshees.¡± said the guy that frightened him, he saw that the person was an elf. Quest Updated: 1/1 Banshee Squad Leader Meet ¡°The guy to the left of me is one of your fellow squad mates, his name is Thomas Jones, aka Red.¡± said Wings as he looked at the Dragonborn to the left of him. Squad Members Meet ¡°The guy to the left of Red, is another one of your fellow members, his name is Jason James, aka Tookie.¡± said Wings as he yet again looked to his left at the dwarf that was standing next to the dragonborn. At this point George had not even realized that he had armor on and a sword at his left hip. The armor look like your standard issue leather gear. While the sword was short and looked like it was made for him. ¡°No, not yet but I got a skill that uses the weapon.¡± said George. ¡°Great, a complete noobie when it come to the sword.¡± said Tookie. ¡°Nevermind him, I am sure that you will do find with the weapon. Now, on to your class. What is it? Mine is Squad Leader (Epic), Tookie¡¯s is Investigator (Rare), Red¡¯s is Archer (Rare), and Caduis¡¯ is Mage (Common).¡± informed Wings. Everytime Wings said the name of a class, George could hear the rarity of the class. It made no sense why he would hear such a thing but then again he was expecting a tutorial but instead he got placed in his local guard. ¡°Well my class is Guard (Epic)¡± said George. ¡°Hmmm, no wonder you go place in this Company. You have the perfect class to suit it. Also, I changed my mind on the practice since we are going against a squad that has been working together ever since the game launched early beta 3 months ago.¡± said Wings. ¡°So, I am going to learn how to fight be for the fight?¡± George said while he smiled at what he said, ¡°Also why do sometimes my words change when I try to say anything vulgar?¡± ¡°The system does not allow anyone to cuss until they reach level twenty. So get over it, since no one is that level yet.¡± said Wings as he walked towards an open field in the middle of the fort. He suspected that this was the training field since it had some training dummies on one side of the field. While it had sand pits in the middle of the open field. ¡°This is where we will test your current skills with the blade.¡± said Wings, ¡°Tookie as the only one of us that uses a sword can you please come duel him so we know if he is any good?¡± After Wings said this, George noticed that Tookie also carried a short sword, Wings carried a spear on his back, Red had a small war axe and a bow on his back, and Cadius had a staff. ¡°Sure, Wings¡± said Tookie, ¡°I wont go easy on you since they won¡¯t care if you have played for the last three months or if this is your first day. Tough love is the best type of love.¡± As he walked into the middle of one of the three sand pits in the field. George quickly followed him onto the sand. But before he got their he had to ask one more question. ¡°Why are we not grabbing training swords?¡± asked George. ¡°The pit is enchanted to allow a person to deal fake blows while at the same time mimic what would have happened if you actually got hit.¡± said Red from the sidelines. ¡°Okay, are you ready for your first fight in the game?¡± Tookie asked, standing across the ring from him. ¡°I am ready.¡± George said as he drew his blade for the first time. The blade looked like a very basic sword. It had an indentation in the middle of the blade, while the outside of the blade was as sharp as it could be. George thought that maybe it had a status window but nothing appeared. So he decided to change tactics and thought ¡®examine¡¯. New Skill: Evaluate Level One

Time began to slow for George, he saw himself raise his sword and angle it upwards. He expected that he would have known at least something because the system gave him this weapon. But in the amount of time it took for him to raise his sword, Tookie was already across the sand pit about to strike him with the sword. George did not know what todo, but what he did know was that he was outmatched. So he did the next best thing, he tried to roll away. Acrobatics Check: Difficulty 15 Rolling¡­ 16 Acrobatics Check: Successful George could not believe that he actually managed to roll away and get back on his feet behind Tookie. ¡®I need to hit him now, it might be my only shot¡¯ George thought. So, George raised his sword and attempted to swing at Tookies back. Attack Check: Difficulty 10 Rolling¡­ 14 Attack Check: Successful Rolling Damage¡­ 3 Somehow George managed to get deep enough into the leather armor to cause Tookie to flinch. Once again George was flabbergasted, he has never held a sword in his life and he somehow managed to not only get away from Tookie but was able to strike the first blow. ¡°Point, reset.¡± Wings instructed from the side lines. ¡°Nice moves back there newbie, lets see if they were a fluke.¡± Tookie said in nice tone. ¡°Thanks, I just think that I am lucky today or something.¡± said George. ¡°We are going to three points.¡± Wings informed the pair as they talked, ¡°So far, you have impressed me George. On my count you will start again.¡± ¡°3¡± ¡°2¡± ¡°1¡± ¡°Fight!¡± As soon as Wings said this, Tookie try a different approach this time. He decide that it would be better to approach from the left side of George rather than the right. This time George was ready for him. George raised his sword to try and block Tookie¡¯s incoming strike. Attack Check: Difficulty 10 Rolling¡­ 1 Attack Check: Critical Failure This was the third time today that George was left speechless. He somehow raised his sword in just the right way and at the right time to cause Tookie¡¯s sword to fly out of the sand pit. George knew that he could not miss this opportunity as Tookie looked away from George as the sword flew away. Attack Check: Difficulty 10 Rolling Advantage¡­ 11 4 Attack Check: Successful Rolling Damage¡­ 4 George knew that this was his chance and took it. George¡¯s sword then straightened just enough to strike at Tookie''s exposed body. The sword managed to gain just enough force behind it to go through Tookie¡¯s armor and it would have gone deep into the skin had the sand pit not been enchanted. Tookie looked back up a George, his face was full of shock and surprise. He could not understand why he lost he sword and how George, a complete newbie, managed to score two points on him. ¡°Point George! Nice match both of you, time for the final fight. I can say that I am genuinely surprised that you managed to get two points. But I don¡¯t think the RNG Gods will be in your favor this time around.¡± said Wings. He too could not understand how a person without the sword skill could defeat a person with the skill at Novice Level Three. As Wings thought about his new subordinate, Tookie was retrieving his lost sword. As both squad members return to their starting points, Wings once again spoke up, ¡°You will begin on my count.¡± ¡°3¡± ¡°2¡± ¡°1¡± ¡°Fight!¡± yelled Wings. This time George wanted to push Tookie. So when Wings finished speaking, George raised his sword in front of him and charged at Tookie. But Tookie was ready for this, as this is what he would have done if he were in George¡¯s place. As George raised his sword and activated his ability, he swung at Tookie. Attack Check: Difficulty 15 Rolling¡­ 8 Attack Check: Failed Georges attack failed to get past Tookies guard. No matter where he attack he could not break him. So he decided to pull back and try again. But Tookie saw that he was trying to pull back. So, he stuck but both of them expected the other to do this. Attack Check: Difficulty 10 Rolling¡­ 2 Attack Check: Failed Moving at the same speed, both fighters once again locked into a battle of swords. But neither could manage to get past each other''s defense. On the outside it looked like two people were dancing around the sand pit, it did not look beautiful but in a way it did look like they knew at least some of what they were doing. As Tookie started to back away from George, George chose once again to strike at Tookie. But Tookie yet again expected this, never allowing his defense to drop while he moved backwards. Attack Check: Difficulty 15 Rolling¡­ 19 Attack Check: Successful Rolling Damage¡­ 3 Yet due to the fighting in the pit, Tookie managed to step into a little pot hole while he was moving backwards. This surprised him and allowed George to not only get past his sword defense but also slice cleanly through Tookie¡¯s armor. George could not understand how he did it, but he somehow managed to win all three matches that were fought. Experience Gained: 250 exp For Defeating an Opponent 4 Levels higher than you, you gain: 150 exp Skill Leveled: Acrobatics Novice Level 2 Skill Gained: Swordsmanship Novice Level 1 Skill Leveled: Swordsmanship Novice Level 2 Skill Leveled: Swordsmanship Novice Level 3 For Defeating an Opponent with a weapon that you have never used in a world that you have yet to live a day in, you gain an achievement: Lucky Start George was once again left speechless, how could he have won against a person that was level 5 with a weapon that he has never used before. This is either a great start to my game experience or it spells doom for the rest of his life in this world. NAO Chapter Four: Squad Vs Squad ¡°I have finally finished searching the forums. It seem that only hundred people have taken the class [Guard].¡± explained the elven executive officer, ¡°But it is not that it is a rare epic class or anything, it is because it became supper unpopular after the beta players said it was only good in defense.¡± ¡°So, it just sucks at offence¡± asked the dwarven Commanding Officer of first company. ¡°Yes and no. It has very few offensive skills but has great investigating and defensive skills.¡± said the XO. ¡°So he is a perfect match for our division.¡± said the CO. ¡°Yes, he will be able to help solve crimes in the city and defend it.¡± said the XO, ¡°But, that is all. In a regular battle that we are the attacking force, he will be just another swordsman with little to no combat related skills.¡± ¡°We can work with that right?¡± asked the CO. ¡°Yes, we can use him in this month¡¯s match. But afterward, he will have a lot of work to do with his swordsmanship.¡± said the XO, ¡°You saw the battle, he was an ape that swung his sword in random directions and so how he managed to win that duel.¡± ¡°Are you sure he not an undiscover genius of the sword?¡± asked the CO. ¡°I am sure. His technique was no existent. I just think the gods where on his side this time.¡± said the XO. ¡°We need to contact Captain James to set up the match.¡± said the XO. ¡°What should we go for? I was thinking we should do small outpost defense again.¡± said the CO. ¡°I was thinking the same. I will allow us at least some measure of a chance with the new guys buffs.¡± said the XO. ¡°So, how many rounds are we going this time¡­¡± The two command staff of first company sat around a table with a tiny outpost in the middle of a map. They then started to move the squad that George was in in different places trying to come up with the best tactics that they could use. They stood there for thirty minutes changing tactics and then trying to break them. So far, they have only found one tactics they could use that might give them a chance at winning this month¡¯s prize, one free piece of equipment ranked uncommon for the squad that won.
¡°Listen up squad, I know that this not the situation that no of us wanted to be in,¡± said Wings pausing for a moment look to each member of the squad, ¡°I know we have a new guy but, this is not the time for a normal introduction.¡± Wings was standing in the middle of a half circle, explain to them that they were about to go into the match under prepared with a squad that has not even had time to train. Yet, the Squad leader did not even show any signs of stress or worry. He knew that this would not end well but, he knew that if he show any signs of weariness than his guys would too. He did not know if the new guy would be able to pull off what he did less than an hour ago again. They would be going in under trained and they would most likely become overwhelmed quickly. Their was no doubt in his mind that he would actually win this fight. Wings could not understand why they would throw a new guy into a squad that was about to go into combat, even if it was simulated. He could not understand why Jeff left them. He has heard rumors lately that more and more members have be leaving for no apparent reason. He was an investigator at heart, this was the reason he joined this division. The other reason was a more personal issue, he parents were almost killed by a person when he was younger. But unlike the closer that he brings others, his case was never closed. His parents lived in fear for the rest of their days before they died of old age, they were always looking for anyone that could hurt them. They were stuck in the past, afraid of the future, but never sure of the present. This broke Wings heart, to have his own family afraid of the monsters that lived under the bed. Wings would never let anyone live like that, so he joined the investigator to ensure that it never happened again. Now with being able to come back to life, it made his life worse. Now, they would have to interview the victim and the witnesses. It brought a whole different view on investigations but, that would have been to easy. When a person dies in game, they won¡¯t have memories of their last few hours of their life. Wings has had it described as losing a small part of their life because they knew they did something during that time, but they did not know what. But back to the immediate matter a hand, Wings was standing in the middle of a half circle. Red was standing facing him on his left side. Cadius was standing to reds right at an angel facing him. Then there was Tookie, how was standing to the right of Cadius. He was also at an angle facing him. The final person in his circle, and the newest addition was George. Wings had yet to get a good reading of George. The only thing he has decided was that he was either really lucky or he was hiding something about his past. But again, that was an issue for another day. Wings finally realized how much he had to do, he had to investigate why so many of his fellow military personal were leaving the service. He was kicking himself for not opening the skills he had got and the achievement. He had been trying to get to know every one but all they wanted to do was talking out different strategies for the up coming match. ¡°As long as we are in the barracks or training area, we can be moved into a simulation at any moment.¡± informed Wings. ¡°So, I could be asleep and be attacked?!?!¡± asked George in a frightened tone. ¡°Welcome to the Dawn Guard military, George.¡± Wings said in a amusing tone. Teleporting¡­ George started to look around the camp that he was in. But he could barely make out anything, it looked like there was a fog over the outpost that he knew was there. He started to focus trying to make out details of the outpost. Perception Check Rolling¡­ 11 George started to make out some features of the outpost. He saw that there was no wall around the outpost. In the middle of the outpost there was a road running through it. About twenty feet away from him was a guard shack or maybe toll booth, George was not sure but he thought he saw an opening to slide money into it. On the other side of road, their was an old tower that was had it supports slowly rotting. While behind him, he saw a small barracks. The only thing this small outpost had going for it was the fact it was on a slight incline and trees were cleared 100 feet in all directions. ¡°Okay George, you are to defend the entrance of the barracks. Before you ask, this could take up to three days. It all depends on when they attack. Red you are on watch in the tower. Tookie, you have the tollbooth, I highly doubt anyone will come this late at night though. He looked at Tookie and asked. ¡°Will we always be on three-day missions?¡± ¡°No. When we get out of the sim, it will only be like an hour has past. Also, I have no hard feelings about our fight earlier.¡± said Tookie. ¡°I don¡¯t either, I still don¡¯t know how I managed to beat you three times in a row.¡± said George. Tookie still has yet to go over to the guard booth. ¡°So, why did you decide to chose Guard as your class?¡± asked Tookie. ¡°The short answer is that I wanted to protect the people that did not want to protect themselves. We immortals have much power in this world. Yet, instead of protecting the people of the world some try to kill them or run off and fight monsters. Why should I have get to die and come back while someone else give their life to save someone? What right do I have to say a person¡¯s life is under my enjoyment? Being a guard is not about fame, it is about protecting people form harm and avenging those that die due to us coming into this world.¡± said George. ¡°Is that not why we all fight? You will find that in this company you are not alone. Alone we will all fall but, together we will rise like the dawn. We maybe unwanted to some but to those that need help, we will be there. Nothing happened for the first two days of the match. George got to know everyone a little better but, since everyone was on edge about not getting attacked. George did not feel like he got to know their real personalities. Perception Check Rolling¡­ 17 George saw something come move in the distance. The movement came from the tree line. George knew that the movement was not from an animal but a humanoid figure. He wished he would have asked what races were on the team. But he did not have the forethought to have ask such a question but he was still not used to the face their were other races. ¡®Perhaps we can catch them off guard if I go in side like a shift change and alright Wings that they were coming. Yeah, I will do that.¡¯ thought George. Performance Check Rolling¡­ 13 Enemies Perception Check Rolling¡­ 20 Perception Check: Critical Success As George turned around trying to get into the he faltered, for one second. If this was not during a match and was in real life. Then it would have never been noticed but, the person watching him did notice and he knew that there was not supposed be another shift change till an hour from now. But, George did not know his ruse was up. He walked up to Wings and said, ¡°We have a person watching us in the trees.¡± ¡°How many did you see?¡± asked Wings. ¡°Just one, but there could be more.¡± said George. ¡°Okay, go bac¡ª¡°before Wings could finish what he was about to say, he heard yelling in the distance. ¡°They spotted you coming in here.¡± said Wings, ¡°Prepare for an attack Cadius, the time for waiting is over.¡± Wings, Cadius, and I then ran out of the barracks to see attackers attacking from one direction. They moved off to help Tookie who was currently engaging the enemy in combat. He was holding his own against the elf he was fighting. ¡°George you take go right and fight the archer in the back.¡± said Wings. George had not even noticed the archer in the back of the formation. But, he knew that it was the right call. So he ran to the right and tried to sneak up on the archer¡¯s right flank. Stealth Check Rolling¡­ 10 Enemies Perception Check Rolling¡­ 17 George saw the archer turn around just as he was about to approach him. He knew that unless he closed the 20-foot gap, he would be in a world of hurt. Enemy Attack Check: Difficulty 10 Rolling¡­ 9 It must have been George¡¯s lucky day as the archer turned to fast and launched an arrow right next to George but it did not hit him. George then knew that he had to run to try and get to the archer before he could get off another shot. Athletics Check: Difficulty 12 Rolling¡­ 18 George manage to run at the human archer at a full sprint and got there before he could get another shot running. George could see that the archer only had regular leather gear like his own. George already have unsheathed his sword at the camp raised it above his head about to swing down on the unprepared archer. Attack Check: Difficulty 10 Rolling¡­ 17 Attack Check: Successful George swung his sword at the archer. He managed to hit the archer in the left arm causing a deep cut into it. George though he might have heard a slight cracking noise, but he could not be sure since they were in the middle of combat and it could have been just a sword that was deflected. The archer having hurt his left some much that it hurt to move it raised his new drawn dagger with is right arm and tried to attack George with it. Enemy Attack Check: Difficulty 10 Rolling¡­ 12 Attack Check: Successful George did not manage to see the dagger in time, the dagger went straight through the armor and into his left side of his stomach. It did not feel like it hit an vital organs but it did hurt like hell. George then tried to grab the dagger of the archer. Athletics Check: Difficulty 10 (it is in his body still or else I would have put it higher because it is an elf he is fighting) Rolling¡­ 13 George managed to grab the elf¡¯s wrist and held it tight. Then George drew back his sword and tried to plunge it into the elf¡¯s stomach. Attack Check: Difficulty 10 Rolling¡­ 2 Somehow, at nearly point blank range George managed to miss his sword strike. George immediately pulled back his blade since it was no where near the archer in the first place. The worst part was that the archer started to laugh at almost dying. ¡°It is nice to meet you new guy, I am Creg. You might want to work on your swordsmanship. We in dawn guard help each other improve our skills.¡± said the archer, Creg. ¡°It is nice to meet you. Now I am going to kill you.¡± as George said that he once again tried to gut Creg. Attack Check: Difficulty 10 Rolling¡­ 17 This time George managed to drive the sword into the archer. The sword managed to get all the way up to the heart and nicked it just a little bit. But, that was the death blow that was needed. ¡°See you on the other side, George.¡± Creg said before he breathed his last breath. George then turned around to see that his squad had Wings and him left. While the other squad had a dwarf and a gnome. The dwarf was currently engaging Wings in combat. While the gnome was sitting back waiting to see who would win. This was his chance, if he could sneak attack the gnome. Then he would be able to help out Wings. Stealth Check: Rolling¡­ 20 Enemy Perception Check: Rolling¡­ 10 + 4: 14 George managed to sneak up on the dwarf. The dwarf had on medium armor (Chain mail breast plate and legs), he did not however have a helmet. This would have been an advantage because George was currently swinging with all his might at the dwarf¡¯s head. Attack Check: Difficulty 8 Rolling¡­ 19 + 3: 22 Attack Check: Successful George managed to swing his sword eye level at the dwarf. The sword then finished it sideways ark half way into the enemy¡¯s head. The dwarf could not believe it, someone had managed to sneak up on him and he had a bonus to assassins in stealth. How could someone manage to kill him without him knowing about. He knew that he should have followed his feelings and brought his helmet but his pride got in the way. He did not hate the person that did it. He was actually kind of happy that someone had managed to sneak up on him with him noticing. He could not wait to talk to the person that managed to kill him. George having managed to get his sword out of the other dwarf¡¯s head. George then looked up to see that Wings had killed the other enemy. Before either could say anything, the simulation ended.
