《School Warfare》 A normal school day My life is pretty normal. I go to school, have a decent education, have friends and a caring family. But my days were flipped upside down as something sudden took control of my life. And it all started with a normal school day. I walked down the path on the side of the street. Music from a recently popular artist poured through the earphones stuffed in my ears, drowning out the noise of chatting from everyday people and cars passing by. Noisy pop music came from a clothing store across from the street and an argument broke out outside a store where a man was trying to take a bike. I paid no attention though, instead I continued to walk and listen to my music. I turned down multiple paths, passing houses and shops and apartment buildings. My usual route to school. And of course, I stopped by my friend¡¯s house- a small apartment building halfway to the school. "Hey!" I called to Evan, my friend as he exited the building quickly. Evan was my childhood friend since primary school, and we had shared many memories together. Our families were extremely close, and my parents often helped his parents with financial support. "Hey," he waved as he half-jogged down the path towards me. He had blonde hair with his fringe pushed to the right messily. His bronze eyes seemed to glimmer slightly in the winter sunshine. He wore the school uniform- a black, gold trimmed blazer with a white collared shirt and black tie with golden edges. I took out the earphones, muting the music and stuffing them in my pocket so that I could talk to Evan without the distraction of music. "Did you do the homework?" He asked me suddenly. "Yeah, it was really difficult though. I probably got most of it wrong," I responded to his question promptly. Our mathematics homework was always the hardest, most kids got less than 50% on them. "Yeah right, you get 90% or above on every singe homework and test. You don''t have to worry about anything," "One time I got a 70%," I corrected him jokingly, causing him to nudge me. "David will probably get a 10%," Evan said, chuckling. We continued to chat on the way, talking about our weekend and us meeting up next weekend like we had yesterday. After another ten minutes of walking we turned a corner, bringing the school into view. It was a large school with three buildings: the academy, where all the classes are, and then the two dorms. The dorms are free for anyone to move in from the age of fifteen and over. They were mostly empty but one of my friends, a girl called Elaina lives there. She often talks of how dirty the corridors are from being unkept by the cleaners and how it feels like a ghost building. We entered the school, walking down the corridors towards our first lesson. Students stood idle in the corridors, talking with friends, checking homework or simply just on their phones. It was strangely peaceful for such a busy environment. Of course, until we reached our first lesson- maths. I pushed open the door and stepped inside. Our classmates were chatting, just like those in the corridors, talking about their weekends and stuff that happened during them. A small crowd had formed around a desk at the front- David''s desk. He was in our small friend group and was quite popular, but not for a good reason. "You were really cool when you punched him!" "Can I get your number?" "Can I be your friend?" David was the ''troublemaker'' kid. It appears that over the weekend he had gotten into a fightagain. "Oh, my friends! Sorry, I have to go," David stood up and rushed over to us, a look of fear on his face. "Get me away from all of these people," He whispered, following us over to the left side of the classroom where my desk was, right next to a window. The sunlight drifted through the window, painting the desks a crisp orange colour. "Who''d you fight this time?" Evan asked, sitting down at the desk behind mine. "Don''t jump to conclusions!" David barked, leaning against the desk just next to mine. He scratched his messy dark brown hair, pushing his fringe from covering his eyes. He had brown eyes that matched his hair and a blank expression, as it was just another school day. "Some first year, he threw an apple at me," He told us. "Is thatreallya good reason to beat some little kid up?" I asked, raising a brow at his confession. "Well it wasn''t just that. He punched first, right in the balls-" "Okay, that''s enough of that," A new person entered our conversation, cutting David off. Erin slapped her book down on Evan''s desk, eyebrows furrowed in disgust. "Do you boys talk about anything other thanthat?"She asked, disgusted. "No, David was just explaining what caused him to beat up some kid," I told her honestly, not wanting her to get angry. Erin was another of our childhood friends. She had shoulder-length messy brown hair with her fringe reaching the top of her eyes which were a light blue colour. She wore the school uniform with a black skirt with golden vertical stripes decorating it. "Hm? You beat up another kid? Tell me, who was it? Was it that Matt dude from the other class? He makes my blood boil," She growled, shivered before sitting on the desk next to Evan''s. "Nah, just some kid," David responded with a dull expression. "Ah. That''s boring-" The door flew open and the teacher stepped in. The class instantly went silent and David rushed to his seat. Erin was a bit late to catch on that the teacher was here, and only noticed when the entire class was staring at her whilst she still talked. Finally, she sat down at her desk on the other side of the classroom, allowing the teacher to begin the class. "Ahem. Greetings, class. Today we''re going to be revising for the Winter exams," He told us. He was the oldest teacher in the school, not including the head teacher, and walked with a limp on his right leg. He was balding with strands of grey hair barely clinging on to the top of his head. This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there."But first, please place your homework on your desks. I will be going through them during this lesson and you will get your mark next week. Oh, and of course. More homework!" He seemed extremely excited about the homework, but when it was being passed around the classroom it just turned out to be more normal homework. "Mhmm..." David murmured something under his breath which the teacher somehow caught. "You may begin your self-study. Please place your homework set last week on my desk whilst I have a chat with Mr. Larion here," He gestured towards David to follow him, which resulted in a groan and a slow, sad walk out of the classroom. We began to get on with our self-studies, chatting between ourselves during the revision. David and the teacher came back in after a couple minutes, prompting the class to become silent again from his sheer presence. Teachers are scary. More time passed. We were halfway through the lesson when the door burst in and a girl stepped in. She had white blonde hair that was tied into two ponytail that trailed down her back and wore the school uniform with the skirt. Her eyes dashed around the classroom before they met with the teacher. "Ah, Miss Rockford. It''d appear you''re late," the teacher spun his desk chair around to face her and crossed his arms, frowning at her and furrowing his brows. "My alarm was late! Yes! My alarm! No! Wait yes! I forgot to set my alarm! I''m sorry I''m late!" Her face went bright red as she moved to the back of the classroom. Her words were jumbled, and she looked sleepy as she sat down, as if about to fall right asleep. How strange. But we continued the class anyways, chuckling between ourselves about her late appearance to class as the day continued like normal. But, of course, I wouldn''t be telling you all this if something interesting didn''t happen. The speakers crackled in the classroom as a woman''s voice came through. "Please may the following five students head down to the headmaster¡¯s office:Evan Bright, David Larion, Elaina Rockford, Erin Roma and Rio Fate. I repeat, these following students head down to the headmaster¡¯s office: Evan Bright, David Larion, Elaina Rockford, Erin Roma and Rio Fate. Thank you," Her voice cut off as the faces of our classmates looked towards us. "What''d I do now?" David moaned, slamming his head on the desk. The five of us childhood friends left the classroom, walking down the empty and silent corridors to the headmaster¡¯s office. The only noises were our footsteps and David''s moaning about how it was unfair. "What do you think is happening?" I asked Erin who seemed to be staring into space, deep in thought. "Dunno, maybe they want to ask us questions about David beating up a kid?" She said playfully, shrugging and smiling. "They would bring us one at a time if that was the case," David pushed himself into our conversation after hearing the theory about him. "What do you think it is then?" I asked David, hoping he''d have an idea- any idea. Normally people were only called to the headmaster¡¯s office for three reasons: You did something terrible, you witnessed somebody doing something terrible, or you''re doing a task for a teacher. And I was none of these. Well except maybe a witness. "Maybe he wants to give us an award?" David suggested, imagining himself with a golden trophy. "An award for what?" I asked him. "It''s just a theory," David shrugged. "A terrible theory. My guess is it''s something to do with you," "Hey, come on, I''m not that bad-" The door to a classroom we were passing flew open with a loud bang and a teacher stepped out furiously, face red and fists clenched. She bared her fangs and let out a mighty roar. "WILL YOU LOT SHUT UP? YOU''RE MAKING SUCH LOUD NOISE OUTSIDE MY WORKING CLASSROOM. LEAVE!" She screamed in fury. It reminded me of something I watched where the teacher was a devil. Or were they working at fast food? I don''t remember. We froze in our tracks at this sudden outburst before the teacher slammed the door shut, leaving us in hysterical. We laughed as we continued out journey to the office, reaching it finally. The ominous, dull wooden door gave off a menacing vibe, as if the boss of a video game was standing behind it, ready to attack anybody who entered. Or maybe it was a trap? It gave me chills thinking of what would happen to us once we stepped inside. But there was only one way to find out what truly was inside, waiting for us. "Well, let''s go," I placed my hand on the door handle and pushed the door open, stepping in to face the devil himself. Project evolution initialization. I opened the door cautiously, knocking three times as I did. The four behind me stared with the eyes of eagles as I opened the door, revealing the headmaster''s office. It was tidy inside with a oak wood desk, shelves with photos of previous headmasters and a monitor standing on the desk. Behind the desk sat the headmaster- a short, elderly man. His hair was thin, grey and short, hanging barely a centimetre. "Ah, you''re here. Please, come in," He gestured to the seat in front of the desk, smiling kindly. This isn''t what I imagined from al lthe stories I had been told. In fact, it was completely different- we were expecting a demon who would yell at us the second we stepped in, like that teacher who yelled at us in the corridor, but instead received a kind elderly man. "Ah. Okay," I stepped in with the other four who glanced around the room nervously, unsure of what to expect. "You''re probably confused as to why I called you five here. Well, it''s better to explain in a larger room," He chuckled as he watched us standing in the cramped space of the small office. He stood up and we made way for him as he exited the office, gesturing us to follow. And we followed- we didn''t want to get in trouble with the headmaster. Nervously we walked behind him, following him to the teacher''s conference room where which we entered. The room was long and dull with a grey metal table stretching across the room with ten or so chairs around it and a screen at the end opposite the door where we stood. There were no windows, no colour and no warmth. Yes, it was freezing in there. But one thing caught all of our attention. In front of the screen stood an unfamiliar man. He stood tall with his hands in his pockets and hair slicked back. He wore a neat black suit and tie and looked like he''d just left an office from the city. "Who is this?" David asked the headmaster. "This, children, is Mr. Wren. He will be explaining everything to you and will be accepting any questions. If you''ll excuse me," The headmaster left the room quickly, leaving us in the cold room with the strange man. "Please, sit," He beckoned us to sit at the table- which we did. The seats too were metal and cold, giving me goose bumps over my skin. I''m unsure if that was from the cold or from this strange man. We sat in silence whilst the man read through some notes. It was extremely obvious it was a script, but he maintained calm. "Okay. So, as you heard, my name is Mr. Wren. I am here to explain to you what will be taking place next week and what to look forward to in the following weeks," He stepped to the side and clicked a button on a device he held. The screen switched to an image of a cartoony superhero and the words ''Superpowers''. "Tell me, what comes to your mind when you think of superpowers?" He asked us. "Fire," David answered promptly. "Manipulations," Erin answered, sounding proud of herself. "Wow, you learnt a big word," David teased her. She nudged him away, looking towards Evan next. "Ah... Lightning bolts? Fire balls? Flying?" He spoke with a confusing tone, sounding unsure if he was asking a question or answering one. "Mind control," I spoke next. Then finally Elaina spoke. "Hm. The power of love," she giggled as she spoke, glancing at Evan who in response blushed. "You al gave great answers there. Well, maybe not the last one. But yes, when we think of superpowers, we literally think of superpowers we have seen in forms of media such as films, games etcetera. Well, what if that was brought to life? That is what the company I belong to is attempting," He checked his notes again, allowing us some time to absorb what he had just said. "Wait, you mean you''re making superhumans?" Evan asked, curious as to what this was all about.Love what you''re reading? Discover and support the author on the platform they originally published on. "Ah- well kind of. Let me explain. Five children from every high school in the country have been selected to take the ''Evolution Initialization'' program," He told us. Elaina lifted up her hand and Mr. Wren pointed at her promptly. "What''s ''Evolution Initialization''?" She asked. My bet is that he was about to explain, but she interrupted. She truly is oblivious to what is happening. "I was just about to explain that," He answered. Knew it. "Evolution Initialization, or EI for short, is a drug developed by the company I work for that speeds up the human evolution process. Don''t ask how it works, I don''t either. Anyways, it speeds up the evolution, causing humans to develop unique abilities called ''EI''. These abilities are often supernatural and seen in popular media, and form from your personality. All of your parents have agreed to this project and are happy we have picked you," He explained to us and smiled innocently. Supernatural abilities? So, the stuff we said, such as fire shooting, flight and more are actually real? Well it must be, considering that the school let these guys in and that they have chosen five people from each school. It''s just insane to wrap my head around it. We could be crime fighting superheroes. But there was little crime in the world, so my biggest question: "What is the point in this?" I asked him, getting to the point. "Good question, I like someone who gets right to the point. The truth is plain and simple, and I won''t lie to you: Money. And entertainment. You see, we don''t want you to become superheroes, you''re only fourteen or fifteen. No, we want you to participate in a new upcoming sport to do with the project. The Evolution Games," He spread his arms wide, as if speaking to millions of people in a speech. "What''re these games?" David asked. "Glad you asked. The games are less of games and more of fighting matches. The goal of the game is to eliminate the other team''s ace. You see, there are five people per a team- you five are the team of Eranfall high. Each of you will be given a position depending on what EI you gain. One of you is the ace. The rest of the team must protect you and attack the other team, the first one to defeat the ace wins. Simple, right?" He explained to us. I thought. The reason they''re doing all of this is to entertain people and gain money from the sport. But there must be a greater reason to all of this then just ''sport'' and ''money''. What''s the point in literally manipulating human evolution just to make a new sport? Nothing adds up here, and I have my suspicions. "Okay, so when do we get the EI?" I asked. The other four stared at me as I spoke, still unsure about all of this. I had made up my mind. "Great attitude. Next week your parents will take you to the Eranfall city hospital and taken to our lab where we will inject you with the EI. It will take approximately three days for your abilities to awaken, and when they do, we will begin to choose your positions. Of course, during games you may switch roles if we deem it okay," He told us. "What are the other positions?" I asked. "You will be told once they are chosen. For now, you may head back to your classes. Goodbye!" He waved as we left the classroom, discussing between ourselves about what had just happened. "Superpowers? Is it even possible?" Evan asked, unsure about everything. "Well clearly it is if the school and government are recognizing this," Erin argued. "What if they''re actually against the government?" David started to think up conspiracies about everything- something I didn''t even know he did. I guess strange situations bring out the strange side in people. "Of course, they''re with the government," "No, you don''t know that!" "Why would a random guy come here, into the school if he wasn''t from a real, government organization?" "Maybe he forced the school to let him in?" "That''d be stupid, don''t you think the school could handle that?" "No, you''re stupid," "GUYS!" I yelled. The two of them shut up finally. "They wouldn''t be against the government if they have a lab in the hospital, which is run by the government. All we know for sure is that it''s a completely real organization and that this is real. not some stupid game. Now will you both stop arguing?" I finished their argument, leaving them in silence. "Sorry sir," David teased. "I''ve got a bad feeling about all of this," Evan said. "Yeah, it is strange..." Elaina piped in now as the two discussed how strange it was. Indeed, it is strange. Superpowers? Superhumans? Superhuman sports? A government organization choosing SCHOOL children to fight each other in a sport? This was clearly wrong, but nobody questioned it. Before today if you had told me I would be participating in a game where we fight other kids with superpowers to win a tournament I would''ve told you that you''re crazy. But it''s entirely real. I WILL be fighting other kids, but for what reason? Because I was chosen? Why would my parents agree to this? It didn''t make sense, but does anything about this make sense? Hunted I thought about what had happened during the remainder of the day. I mean, it''s just something you''d see in fiction, books, comics, shows, movies etcetera. It doesn''t happen in real life. But it is. I was going to undergo an experiment, and after said experiment I''m going to possess an ability. Mr. Wren spoke about how the EI will develop around your personality. What kind of abilities would we get? David would get something explosive with sheer attack power. Evan would recieve something more support based and psychic. Erin might get something explosive similar to David. Elaina? Maybe something innocent like healing? She''s pretty clueless about most things so there''s a possibility she doesn''t even realize she has a power. And then there''s me. What ability would I have? What kind of a person am I? It''s a question I never wonder, but when I do I can never come up with an answer. There''s nothing special about me, I''m not interesting or have any great qualities about me. I feel like I''m just a narrator to my friends'' stories. As I walked home I felt at peace. The streets were empty and the hum of cars was but a faint whisper in the distance. The buzzing of street lamps switching on built up this calm atmosphere, and I finally understood. I closed the front door to my house and slipped my shoes off, placing them beside the door. The hallway was long with a staircase on the left hand side and a door underneath it, leading into the kitchen. To the right was the living room where the noise of the news filled the room. Then, at the end, was the dining room where we ate our meals. I entered the living room, sitting down on the grey, comfortable and soft sofa. My younger brother, William was sat on the other side of the sofa. He was only a year younger than me but was very shy and timid. He often secluded himself in his room or just sat and watched TV down here. He isn''t much for being social. "This is one of the newly built stadiums for the upcoming Evolution games. We''ve been hearing many questions about what the Evolution games are, exactly, so Jack has invited the chairman of the company creating the Evolution games to explain. Over to him," The reporter finished speaking and the screen changed to an elderly man in a black suit sitting at a desk. "Greetings. I am the chairman of the Evolution Initialization project and will explain to you what the Evolution games are. You see, our researchers have been hard at work and developed a drug which speeds up the evolution rate of a human it is injected into. When it fully kicks in, they are granted a permanant ability that forms from their personality. With these abilities, teams from schools will enter combat against each other to eliminate the other team''s ''ace''. Whoever eliminates the ace first wins. Simple. But the truth is, we have found out how to make superhumans in real life," I looked over to my brother. He seemed astonished by the news, jaw dropped and eyes wide. My mother walked in, smiling at me as she did. "Rio, did the man at school tell you about the Evolution games?" She asked. "Yeah, he did. I''m going into the experiment next week, wish me luck," I smiled at her. We were a close family, but I''d never expected her to sign me up to something as dangerous as literal superhuman fights. "Good, good. Anyways, I''ll make you some dinner. What do you want?" She asked. "Oh, I''m fine. I''m going to go up to my room," I stood up and half-jogged upstairs, closing my bedroom door and laying down, staring up at the white ceiling. I had no clue what to expect. I''m not fit for any of this. Sure, I often have the best grades in the class, but I''m not prepared to stand in front of millions and shoot flames from my hands or whatever they want me to do. I can''t. The room''s walls were a dull, dark grey colour. A single bed sat in the corner of the room, farthest from the door. Next to it sat a bedside table with a small lamp and book with an alarm clock on top of it. To the right of the bed was my desk with a laptop sat on it with the screen closed and a group of homework folders, project folders and test folders from my years at school.Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit. Knock. Knock. Knock. My door peeked open and my mother stepped in, waving her hand. She had a kind face and greying hair. She had been supportive of me all my life and gave me any opportunity for fun she could get. She was a great mother, but she had done something terrible to me that will mess with me my entire life. "Is something the matter?" She asked me, stepping inside. "Yeah," I turned over so that I couldn''t see her. "What is it? Do you wanna talk?" I heard her approaching my bed. "It''s just that I''m not ready to do something so big like that experiment. In fact, I won''t do it. I don''t want to be some superhero in front of people, I just want to be a normal person with a normal life!" I yelled at her, turning over to see her. "I... I didn''t know. I thought this was a good opportunity-" "It''s not!" I cut her off, furious at her. She looked sullenly down at her feet before I stood up. I sprinted out the room, slamming the door shut and running down the stairs. I quickly slipped my shoes on and ran outside into the cold night, afraid of what would happen to my normal life. I don''t want this. It''s wrong. It''s not what I want. It''s what they want. It''s always been what they want. I slowed to a stop as I realized how far away from home I was. I wasn''t paying attention to where i was going, I just kept going. I spotted the clothing shop close by, which was closed for some strange reason. The gym was right next to me, and through the window I could see a woman and man running on the treadmills. Letting out a sob, I slumped onto a wooden bench just next to the gym. Birds sung to each other in the forest behind the town and the occasionaly passing of cars reminded me that there are millions of other people just like me. Hopeless. Lost. Unsure of what to do. I stood up, wiped away my tears and turned around, ready to go back home, when suddenly a black van roared down the road and breaked hard, skidding and swerving across the street and stopping just next to me. The shock from this sudden van made my heart leap and my body stumble. I fell to the ground as a wave of dust lapped over me, ruining my clothes. "He''s here," A deep voice siad. Suddenly, a person wearing black leather and a black bikers helmet, despite being in a van, stepped out, holding a pistol in his right hand. "Get in the van," he said calmly, pointing his pistol at me. I felt my heart stop for a second from pure fear. I was being held at gun point by a van driving biker. "Who are you?" I yelled in shock, crawling away from the man. My head hit the bench I had been sitting on earlier, causing the world to spin suddenly. The man yelled commands but I couldn''t hear as everything went blurry. But my instincts kicked in. If I couldn''t fight then I should... Run! I stood and sprinted in the vague direction of where I live. It''d be safest there where there are lots of people around. I heard an ear-splitting BLAM and blur flew past me, causing a deep ringing noise to echo through my ears. The constant ringing noise ached my brain, causing me to trip and stumble. The black leather biker was beginning to catch up, but he was slow for an adult. I could escape. I scrambled to my feet and ran with all my might, heart pounding, feet and legs sore, arms pumping. I ran around a corner, another BLAM causing my ears to ring. I tried to lose him in the maze of houses, but he still followed me. I finally reached my house, opening the door and slipping in just as the biker rounded the corner. I took a deep, long sigh of relief as my mother sprinted into the hallway. "What just happened? What were all those bangs?" She yelled furiously. I''d never seen her like this, not since her and dad split up. "Some guy was chasing me. He had a gun. I think it has something to do with the EI Games-" "Oh no, we''re calling the police straight away," She interrupted me, pulling out her phone and dialing the police quickly. She spoke quickly, so fast she had to repeat stuff to the operator. "What did he look like?" She asked me. "Full black leather suit and black motorcycle helmet," I told her. She nodded and repeated what I said into the phone. After a couple more minutes of speaking into the phone, she hung up and placed it down on the side. "You irresponsible child! Do you know how worried I was?" She approached me, hand raised. I was expecting the feeling of a hard slap against my cheek but instead recieved a warm hug and my mother''s tears soaking my shoulder. "Don''t ever do something like that again," she sobbed. "I won''t, I promise," I promised to her. We hugged and then took me to the dining room.. She gave me a meal which I ate greatfully, hungry after everything that happened. "So I guess you were hungry, huh?" But that was just the beginning of my new life as an EI. Even when I don''t possess the EI, I will still be hunted down. My life is changing. Day Part One I had a sinking feeling in my stomach as I drove to the hospital with my mother at the driver''s seat. I sat in the front next to her and my brother sat in the back, headphones on and listening to some music. It was midday and the sun was shining high up in the sky. The streets were busy with workers on lunch breaks, heading to cafes or talking with each other. Birds chirped, singing to each other and flying in massive flocks like black dots painted into the sky. My mind kept thinking back to that day last week. Those people who were trying to kidnap me. What did they want? Maybe they thought I was already and EI and could use my power? Well, nobody knows. I just need to move on and try to keep safe. Everybody at school since the announcement on TV had been talking about the games and how excited they were to watch them. I''d probably be excited too if I weren''t the one taking part in the games. "Here we are," My mother parked up in the cark park just outside the hospital, turning off the engine, opening her door and stepping outisde. I exited the car, following my mum in to the hospital with my brother close behind. It wasn''t very busy, with only three people in the waiting room. We walked up to the desk where my mother signed us in. "Hi, my son is here for the EI project," She stepped to the side, allowing the nurse to see me. The nurse smiled before tapping away at her keyboard and then pointing to a door to our right. "All right. Just outside there is Doctor Lawson who will take you to the room," She told us. We went through the door, spotting a doctor walking towards us. He was a tall man with messy hair and a scruffy beard.Love what you''re reading? Discover and support the author on the platform they originally published on. "You must be here for the EI, right? Follow me," He turned and led us down multiple white, pristine corridors and by many hospital rooms. I heard speaking from multiple rooms and crying from others. This was a place where people where healed but also it was a graveyard where people died. "Here we are, this is the lab. Please, come in," He opened a white painted wooden door with a post-it-note reading ''lab'' stuck onto it. Hm. If they can''t afford a sign for a door then how can they afford to speed up human evolution? We entered the room, only to find that it was nothing like a lab. The room was small and square, like a storage room, with white walls, a chair and a table. On said table was a needle and a vial of crimson red liquid. "Take a seat," He gestured to the chair which I promptly sat on, making myself comfortable. "So, how old are you?" He asked, messing with the needle and vial on the table. I didn''t pay attention, knowing how this was going to go. "Fifteen," I answered. "Fifteen, huh? Leaving highschool soon?" He asked me. He had an uninterested tone in his voice. "Yeah-" I felt the prick on my skin and the stinging of the needle. Suddenly it was gone, leaving my arm sore. Quickly, he wiped away a spot of blood and then placed cotton wool against the dot of blood and wrapped tape over it to keep it in place. "All done," He smiled, placing the needle down. I knew he would do that. Doctors can''t be trusted- they are demons. "Ah- thanks. Can I go now?" I asked the doctor. "Sure, first your mother needs to fill some papers," He pulled some papers from seemingly nowhere and handed them to my mother who quickly filled them out. "Please hand them in at the front desk, and then you''re good to go. The project''s company will be in touch soon once you awaken your abilities. Have a nice day!" I decided to ask now- something was wrong. "Hey, can I talk to you in private?" I asked the doctor. "Of course," He answered, gesturing for my mother to leave the room. She did, allowing us some privacy. "Something happened a couple days ago. The police got involved but nothing turned up, so I want to ask you people because I have my suspicions about you,"
