《Midnight Frost. A Winterwatcher Wings of Fire Fanfiction》 First Impressions Everyone is in the Jade Winglet except Umber. I left him put because like Cataclysm I didn''t like him that much as a sort of filler character. I will also not include Carnelion and use a new Sky Wing I will create. These characters will be dragons, not some humanized version. Things will be similar from the WoF original books, but some will be different like the removal of Sora and Umber, along with Carnelion. I will include some OCs. Winter felt like he''d been flying for hours, probably because he had. His sister Icicle flew ahead of him by several metres, not even showing the slightest strain in her wings, if she was even tired at all. She always had been better at Winter than everything. At least, that''s what his parents and pretty much every Icewing told him. They had flown from the Ice Kingdom at dawn, and were still not at Jade Mountain by midday. Their parents, Tundra and Narwal, had insisted they stay at the academy for a few years. Whether that was to instil fear in the other tribes for Icewings or just to get rid of their dragonets for a few years, either sounded like a plausible answer. He knew why he was being sent here, being the most disappointing and worthless of their three dragonets. Well, two, seeing how he had just let his brother be handed over to a skywing patrol years ago, while the Sandwing War Of Succession was still going on. He knew he couldn''t have done anything, and his brother had wanted him to leave and be safe, but really, his parents and entire tribe had never seen it that way. He couldn''t figure out why they were sending Icicle though. She was destined to be Queen Of The Icewings one day. She was at the top of the rankings* . The tribe valued her nearly as much as Hailstorm. Not only would Icicle being Queen grant his family access the enormous fortune of the Queen, but make their ranks skyrocket. Sending her to Jade Mountain rather than training her seemed like a strange decision. "How long until we''re there, do you think?" Winter asked, hoping that she could hear him all the way in front of him. I don''t know, maybe an hour, since we''re already most of the way through the Sand Kingdom. Yeah and I''m already sweating my scales off, Winter thought, feeling sort of faint from the heat he wasn''t used too.Wiping his forehead with one talon and shielding his eyes with the other. He looked at his Moon Globe, the only source of cold around here, and the only thing to remember home by. But, truth be told, home wasn''t the greatest. With all the training, lectures, talks about how bad his rankings are and the semi-regular beating from his parents. His thought wandered:How can those sand-sniffers enjoy this place? It''s just sand for miles, and it''s scorching. The advertisement for Jade Mountain said we would be sharing a cave with at least one dragon, I hope it''s not a Sandwing. The only thing worse than one of those would be a Nightwing. Sandwings are treasure hoarding reptiles, but Nightwings, Nightwings are murderers, liars, and Blackhearted snakes. Well, more like lightwings. HA, their so frail and unhealthy after living on the Volcano for so long! I could probably lift their strongest member over my head. And they deserve it, after stealing our last animus! He''d never actually seen a Nightwing, but he never wanted too. They had a history of lies and treachery dating back all the way too 2000 years ago with Darkstalker. The Nightwing known as Foeslayer had approached the current Queen, Queen Diamond and offered peace between their tribes, in exchange for Prince Arctic, the last animus Icewing. The Queen agreed, being so kind and generous, but then they forced him to have dragonets with that disgusting Foeslayer, then killed him in cold blood. Then there was Darlkstalker, who tormented Icewings for years before disappearing. Then for so many years they pretended to be so mysterious and powerful, faking their mind reading and prophecy powers, they even came up with a fake prophecy a few years ago. Luckily they just proved to be excellent at pretending to read minds and see the future. After an hour they could finally see Jade Mountain, there appeared to be a rocky flat platform, swarming with dragons from other tribes, a disgusting mix of yellow and black, green and blue.Great, a bunch of idiotic, half-iced (See what i did there :)) dragons sharing the same oxygen as me for the next few months. This narrative has been purloined without the author''s approval. Report any appearances on Amazon. Once they were fairly close Icicle stopped both of them and twirled midair to face him. "Remember what mother and father said," Icicle said, "Only speak to other tribes if you have too, or if it''s to learn their weaknesses. Scowl at anyone who disrespects you and your honour. Most importantly NEVER SPEAK TO ANY NIGHTWING AT ALL!" "All right I got when they said it, no need to make me deaf," Winter said coldly, ''Let''s just go and get this over with." The royals landed on the wooden platform, Winter with a smirk on his face, but he quickly wiped it off when he thought of his parents sayingNo Emotion. Winter walks through the crowd, scowling at dragons giving him funny looks and pushing others out of the way who were to idiotic to move. They fell into a stillness, many eyes watching the Icewings. "They look important," one said to his left. Yeah they do, also the smaller one looks kinda cute, in a scary way," another replied. Icicle scowled at the one who said that. "I think one just looked at me," one squealed. "Not the girl, the handsome sparkly one!" Winter and Icicle were curious about their reactions, but then again most Icewings stayed in the Icekingdom where it was too cold for other tribes to venture, so it was most likely their first time seeing one. He was about to go into the caves when a dark mass caught his eye. It was a Nightwing standing away from the crowd with her mother. Her scales were rich and pure black, with silver star-like scales glittering under her wings, and she had two tear drop shaped silver scales behind her eyes. Her eyes were green and she was clearly much healthier than the other Nightwings, he couldn''t even see her ribs. Wow I never knew Nightwings could look so beautiful. She gave him a quick sharp glare and looked away again, something he couldn''t do. His sister elbowed him and he heard other dragons snickering when he realized he had stopped walking, he felt a slight blue blush on his cheeks but quickly suppressed it. He hissed at one, a seawing, who immediately looked away, as did the rest of them. His spikes were standing up, the way they did when he got angry. He calmed himself and walked into the cave, hoping the other dragons would forget about it in a moment. Icicle gave him a talk about how he shouldn''t do stuff like that. "Is it against the law to look at someone", he asked. "No, but it makes us look bad when you stand there gawking at someone, especially Nightwings", she hissed. He saw another reading a scroll in their cave. But that one isn''t nearly as pretty. No, what am I thinking, none of them are pretty, their all conniving liars, and snakes! While waiting for his sister to get her scrolls and things he saw the Nightwing he had stared at earlier walk past. After finally getting a scroll with his winglet name, cave number and other essentials from a VERY talkative nightwing. His sister was very strained listening to the Nightwing, as she had lost Icicle''s scroll for directions, and he looked at one of his scrolls for information. "Prince Winter: Jade Winglet, go down to the farthest right tunnel, next two tunnels go to the right, there will be three caves for your winglet, you will be in cave C," he mumbled quietly to himself while reading the scroll. He quickly looked around at the cavern he was in, he noticed how big it was, large enough to hold fifty dragons, there were small holes in the roof, along with multicoloured fire globes along the ceiling. There was a huge gong in between the middle tunnel along with some sort of podium, and the rest of the cavern was empty. He went over to Icicle.I guess they didn''t want only boring old torches here, Winter though, sort of impressed. "Which winglet are you in?" "Gold" she responded sounded bored and disgusted, "I can''t believe we''re gonna be stuck here for so long, let''s just learn their strengths and weaknesses and how to exploit them." "Yeah" "Enjoy Jade Mountain!," the perky Nightwing called after them..We''ll see Nightwing. Icicle left down the middle tunnel, as he was walking he felt something big and wood snag on his horns, he looked up and saw it was some sort of quote board, with many more down the tunnel. As he struggled to get it off, a rainwing started laughing, but quickly stopped and ducked into a cave when he threw the board at them. He finally found cave C, where he would be staying, he thought no one would be in it, with no sound coming from it, but was surprised when he peeked inside and almost exploded with rage at who was his clawmate. They''re kidding right!? They paired me up with a NIGHTWING! A NIGHTWING. And not any Nightwing, but the one who had caught his eye earlier. Hey Guys! What do you think? I know it is very similar to cataclysms story, but i made it this way to start me off on my own version. I might keep chapter 2 and maybe 3 similar too but then branch off into my own story Danger Note Any writing Italics is what the character is directly thinking. Any writing in normal without italics or bold is the story. Writing in bold is my author''s note or narration. Huh, really? An Icewing? I hope he isn''t too stuck like mum said they are. Hey, he kinda looks familiar, Moon thought, observing his face for a bit while he looked at his directions scroll. Hmmm maybe I saw him NO WAIT REALLY!? Is he the one who glared at me for like 10 minutes!? Oh god this is gonna be good isn''t it? I hope he just made a wrong turn somewhere. The white and blue dragon glanced at her, then muttered something under his breath. He stormed into the cave without a word and coated a rocky ledge with ice, then he lay down on it facing the wall. God dammit, looks like this is my clawmate. Not really talkative, but then again I''m not either. I hope this goes alright. He''s probably going to be all stuck up to me for some "ANCIENT REASON BLAH BLAH". Moon was curious to see if he was thinking about that, since she wanted to find out more but was too afraid to ask anyone, and opened her mind to read his. Really she''s| this is outrageous|pretty|ugly|STOP WINTER|Disgrace|Always better than you|LOST HIM!|go die in a hole|you''re no icewing|Blackheared snakes|nightwings|not so bad. Moon closed her eyes and took some deep breaths, luckily the icewing didn''t notice. My god his mind is a mess. He must have been through a bunch of trauma. Moon felt kind of bad for the icewing seeing the mess of words and memories. She glanced over at him for a second and saw him check his scroll again. Moon thought to when she had hissed at him. She had been trying to say she wasn''t afraid of him, but that wasn''t entirely true. Her mother had approved, seeing as how she, like the other nightwings, hated the cold dragons. I wished I got to stay home in the rainforest. At least I wouldn''t have to deal with all the school homework, other dragons and drama and maybe bullies. I only got to stay with mum for a few years and now I''m stuck here. And it doesn''t help I need to hide these stupid powers. Instead of focusing on everything bad, she went back to reading the scroll she had been reading before. At least there were a bunch of different scrolls for her to read here, and even more in the cave! She had seen the titles and a lot had been now obvious hints she would be partnered with an Icewing. But this Icewing, really. A lot of the scrolls were really sophisticated, even though she is only four, she had probably read more scrolls than all the nightwings and rainwings combined. At least her bed was made of leaves and moss, it felt just like the rainforest, just like home. When she had to sleep alone for months when Secretkeeper had to be with the rest of the tribe. She decided to open her mind again to the cold dragon''s. Luckily it was more calm now. Can''t believe i have to share a cave with a Nightwing. I can''t ask for a new cave since there''s only three and they are probably occupied by now. Suddenly his thoughts shut off with a protective wall unconsciously. Moon had seen dragons like this, namely Queen Glory, when she is uncomfortable she brings up a protective wall on her thoughts automatically and unconsciously. "Where did you get the map?" the Icewing asked gruffly. Moon looked up from her scroll, "W-what?" "That map you have. Where did you get it?" The Icewing repeated, sounding a little more grumpy. "Oh, Fatespeaker gave it to me. You know the-" "I know who she is," he interrupted. "The most talkative dragon I ever met. I''m just wondering why I didn''t get one. I thought you might know." He walked over to look at the map and the layout. Moon felt a slight bit of her hope that maybe this was him being nice before- "Or are Nightwings only allowed to have them, is it some Nightwing secret?" he said with venom in his words as he looked up at her. Moon ignored this. "Maybe they''re in short supply, like only one per cave. Did you get a schedule scroll at least?" The Pale blue and white dragon shook his head. "No, what about you." He frowned even more when she nudged the schedule scroll towards him. WE HAVE ALL OUR CLASSES TOGETHER! REALLY!? Winter''s mind roared, but he remained somewhat polite on the outside. Moon had no idea why the Icewings hated her tribe so much, but she thought she could at least ''try'' to be friends with this one. "M-my name is Moon" Moon blurted. "Well Moonwatcher but you can call me Moon."If you come across this story on Amazon, it''s taken without permission from the author. Report it. His bright blue eyes narrowed, studying her expression with a mix of suspicion and curiosity. Mother and father said to not talk to Nightwings unless absolutely necessary so...so should I not tell her my name. I should at least do that so we can communicate, why is she looking at me like that? Moon looked back down to her claws quickly, realizing she had been looking at him too long. "My name''s Winter. Prince Winter." "Your mother is Queen Glacier!" Moon said in bewilderment. "Of course not" Winter said in a sharp but slightly surprised tone. "She''s my aunt, so even though me and my sister are her nephew and niece we are still royalty." "Oh, that still sounds nice, to be royal." "You''d be saying something different if you walked a day in my shoes." "What do you mean?" Moon replied, confused. He didn''t answer ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ BONG BONG! Moon sat up at the sound of the gong, Winter was alert as well, not seeming to know what the sound was for. "That means we have two minutes to get to class," she informed him. "Two gongs mean two minutes and 1 gong means 1 minute. Do you need the map? I''ve already memorized it." The Icewing rolled his eyes and looked slightly smug. "No, I don''t need a piece of paper to tell me where to go. I memorized it too." "Which class do we have then?" Moon asked. "Hunting" Winter replied. Well he got that right. He walked and she followed, but she then realised he was constantly looking behind him not-so-subtly to check she was still behind him. "Are you sure you don''t need the map?" "HMM" Winter turned down the wrong corridor. "Thats the wrong way!" "I don''t care." He replied in an angry huff. The small Nightwing hurried to hunting class, being somehow not late. The back wall of the cave was gone entirely, but there was a green/aqua sheet there. There were five dragons sitting on the floor in a circle. "Hey!" A big blue Seawing called to her. "You must be Moonwatcher, right? Glad you made it on time, come sit with us. "Ok" Moon said softly. She started towards an orange skywing, She bared her teeth at Moon and growled softly. Instead she picked a spot by a brightly coloured Rainwing. "Hi'' the Rainwing said, "I love those silver scales by your eyes, they look so pretty." "O-oh, thank you" Moon replied, uncomfortable with the joyful energy radiating from this dragon. But the bright rainwings mind was the opposite to her friendly demeanor. Oh mangoes. Why did she sit by me. Couldn''t she have sat by the Sandwing or something. Well I guess it''s better than being near Carnelian. I hope my ''PTSD'' doesn''t kick in like a few months ago. "Do you know where Winter is Moon," the Seawing Moon guessed was Tsunami from the royal patterns on her wings, "You''re clawmates right?" Before Moon could answer Winter walked in looking even more grumpy than he had before. "Ah there you are Winter" Tsunami said, "You''re a few minutes late but I''ll let it slide this time only, since you probably took a wrong turn."\ He didn''t hesitate at all and sat next to Carnelian, she bared her teeth at him and in response he blew a little frost breath at her tail. She didn''t look bothered in the slightest but moved a little closer to the Sandwing next to her, who was trying to contain his laughter. "Ok, since you''re all new here today and most likely don''t know each other, why don''t you go around in a circle and say your name and something about yourselves. Winter, since you seem like this is stupid and you where late why don''t you go first." Winter mumbled under his breath and then said, "I''m Prince Winter and the nephew of Queen Glacier." "Wow", the rainwing said excitedly. Moon resisted the urge to massage her temple from the sudden burst of colour, pictures and words from the Rainwings mind. Moon blanked out for a second while Tsunami told them about herself, but had to hide giggles when Tsunami said "And Turtle over there is my brother, and apparently I have thirty others and only found that out this morning." Moon went next. "Umm my name is Moonwatcher and I grew up in the rainforest instead of the volcano," she said softly. "Oh that''s why you look like you''re not a Nightwing like the others! You look so much healthier. Well, I''m Kinkajou and I LOVE sloths, I mean, they''re just SOOOOOOO cute! Hmmm your turn now Turtle. Moon winced internally when Kinkajou said she looked like ''not a nightwing at all". "Ohh I''m Turtle. And I have this really cool wristband with pieces of a meteor I found." Moon didn''t hear what he said next since she was focusing on what she could hear in his mind. Or really what she couldn''t hear in his mind. All she could hear was a weird fuzz. Moon noticed while the others were talking that the Sandwing was called Quibli and the Skywing was Carnelian. "Ok now that that''s done, we''re gonna go hunting guys! Since you and the Silver winglet have two hunting classes every week instead of one like the other winglets, whatever you catch you can keep in a small pile for your Winglet in the Prey Centre. (In this story whatever they catch goes in a community pile and then everyone gets to eat whatever they get their claws on first.) Tsunami opened the curtain and flew outside, hovering and waiting for them to follow. But as Moon was going to start flying, she was pushed and fell down by the Skywing, Carnelian. "Watch it, Nightwing" she growled menacingly. "O-ok," Moon said with a slight tremble of fear in her voice as the skywing flexed her claws at her. "How bout you watch it skywing" Winter retorted as he pushed past her. "Excuse me, stuck up Icewing" Carnelian growled at him. "You heard me" Winter said, flying off. Moon was a little flustered but didn''t show it as she was surprised and grateful that the Icewing had stuck up for her. Then again he could have just been trying to keep him and Carnelian on bad terms. Carnelian decided to continue to pester Moon. "Bet you liked having your boyfriend stick up for you. What are you going to do if you''re in trouble and he''s not there" She said menacingly. "Nothing, since you''re too weak to stand up for yourself. "Well for your information I had to survive for months at a time in the rainforest alone, I had to survive snakes, spiders, poisonous frogs! So think about that next time you try to push me around." Moon said in an angry huff. Carnelian''s mouth hung telling Moon not a lot of dragons had stood up to her before, Moon left without a word. Wow that was impressive. Good thing she stood up for herself. Quibli thought. I can''t believe I did that! I wonder what Winter will think if I tell him. Oh wait he probably won''t care but still! Wel... he did stand up for me there, I wonder why he did that, I thought he hated me? Her thoughts stopped when she spotted a mountain goat, quietly chewing on some grass. Moon gained some momentum from flying and then dived toward it. The goat let out a shriek when she seized it in her claws but stopped when she snapped its neck. "Hey Moon!" Quibi called to her. "Have you seen Winter?" Moon asked. "No, sorry Moon, anyway I have to go now to find some prey, Bye!" Quibli said a little sourly. She was about to head back to the cave when she heard a faint trail of thoughts. Need a weapon, come on! There''s only small rocks here. How could I have been so stupid!? Why is he attacking me?! Moon immediately dropped the goat and flew off to where she thought Winter was. Hey guys tell me if you enjoyed! Comment down below! Chapter 3 (Short Chapter) I need air, I can''t breathe, need to survive, HELP! Winter''s lungs were almost bursting but the dark blue seawing would not let go of his leg. Winter had been looking for some form of aquatic life or fish to eat and take back to the prey centre, when suddenly he was yanked down into the water by a seawing! It was ferocious, clawing at his wings, biting his foreleg and flashing his scales in an irregular pattern to confuse him. It looked into his eyes with a murderous gleam. Maybe I killed someone he cared about in the war. But, everyone was granted amnesty and I''m PRINCE WINTER, the nephew to Queen Glacier, what right does he have to attack me. Well if I found the skywing who killed, no CAPTURED he''s not DEAD! If I found them I would probably kill them too. Winter was desperately trying to pry the seawings mouth of his leg so he could try and escape but it was locked iron shut on his foreleg. Suddenly he saw a dark, black object shoot through the water and slam into the Seawing hard enough to shake him off Winter. The Seawing''s eyes locked onto this new target and shot through the water towards it. Winter''s eyes widened in shock as he realized the dragon grappling with the Seawing was Moon. He was winning, pinning Moon''s mouth closed and scratching at her underbelly. I should let her die one part of him whispered. She saved you, another told him. The decision on what to do was almost instantaneous, he found himself slamming into the murderous dragon and dragging him out of the water. He then blasted frost breath at the Seawing''s leg and they collapsed in pain.Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. Moon dragged herself up through the water toward him, smiling in relief. "Are you ok Winter?," Moon asked, panting. "Yeah, I could have handled him you know" Winter replied begrudgingly. "Yeah, sure you could have" Moon said evenly. "Moon, Winter what happened! Why is there a seawing lying there," Tsunami shouted as she and the rest of their winglet flew down to survey the scene. "This Seawing attacked Winter while he was diving for food and I saw so I came to help him, then he managed to surprise the Seawing, drag him out of the water and frost breath his leg" Moon told her, sounding tired. Tsunami looked at the Seawing, who was hissing at them and trying to crawl back into the water, and raised her eyes in shock, "That''s Shark, Queen Coral- My mother''s brother and the Head of the Royal Guard!" "Why would Queen Coral''s brother try and attack me?," Winter asked in visible confusion. "Hmm don''t know," Tsunami murmured, "I''ll take him to the other teachers and we''ll try and get it out of them. "Wait, Tsunami do I still need to find some prey?" Winter asked, coughing up some water. "Yeah you still do, sorry it''s the rules" Tsunami said wearily, trying to drag Shark without getting bitten by him. "You can share one of the goats I caught," Moon told him. "Ok" Winter replied and flew off to the prey centre. "Talk about rude, Kinkajou started rambling behind him while the others followed behind him." Well what does she think I''m gonna do, say thanks to a NIGHTWING! Ha she can dream, that will never ever happen. But I guess I never would have gotten out of there alive if she didn''t help me, hmm maybe I should say thank you. "You''re welcome Winter" Moon said abruptly then quickly shut her snout. Strange, she said that as I was thinking about saying thank you, huh must have been a coincidence, cause we all know that those powers of theirs don''t exist, if they ever did in the first place. Thought As Moon was walking back to her cave after they had lunch, she was thinking. She was wondering why a Seawing would just suddenly attack Winter. Especially Queen Coral''s top general Sharkk. It just didn''t make sense. As she reached her cave she saw Winter lying on his Ice ledge reading a scroll. He heard her and put it down to see who was here, when he saw it was Moon he grunted slightly and turned to face the wall. Moon sighed, she picked one of her homework scrolls and began to work on it on the flat rock table next to her leaf bed. So far this stupid school had been horrible, with her getting a clawmate who hated her, some unfriendly and strange classmates, and while trying to help one of her classmates she ended up getting attacked by a Seawing. After Moon finished her homework she still had some time before nightfall so she decided to go exploring. After a while she stumbled into a dark cave with no sunlight, it also had a small, peaceful lake. As she approached it, suddenly a dragon head poked out of the water, it was a seawing. Moon shrieked in terror, thinking it was Shark before she realised it was only Turtle. "Hey Moon, is something wrong" Turtle asked her. "No, sorry I thought you were someone else" Moon replied. "Neat cave right? I mean it is dark but it''s still really peaceful. And the water is surprisingly warm too." Turtle told her. "Ok. Can I go in too" Moon requested. "Sure" Moon spent a few minutes swimming around and making use of her night-vision to see inside the water while Turtle just lay on the bottom of the lake being lazy. Eventually she got bored and decided to go and try and explore some more, maybe she could find her own lake cavern with some warmer water, because this one, despite Turtle''s words, was miraculously, cold. Soon she found another but she heard some noises at the bottom of it. There was also a big beam of sunlight shining through the rocky roof into a spot in the lake. As Moon got closer she saw a seawing who looked like Turtle lazing in the beam of light. "What do you want Nightwing" the Seawing said to her quite rudely "Nothing, I was just exploring" Moon replied. "Be on your way then" "Ok" Moon said cautiously She slipped out of the cavern and went to the library. As she entered the room she saw Starflight sorting a box of scrolls onto some shelves. His ears perked up as he heard her soft footsteps. "Moon? Is that you" Starflight called out. "Yes, I just came to try and find some interesting scrolls to read. I finished the ones in my cave"This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience. "Ok, also when you leave I have something for you" Starflight answered. Moon nodded before mentally slapping herself when she remembered Starflight was blind. She gave a courteous but shy ok and proceeded to read an interesting book called "The Frost Plight" by Crystal of the Second Circle of the Icewings. After she was going to leave she remembered what Starflight had said and went to him. He told her he was setting up a Library system to keep track of which student borrowed which books to make sure students didn''t forget to return them by reminding these students and also to make sure they didn''t keep them without Starflight knowing. Moon signed up for a library card to stamp on a scroll Starflight kept and decided to borrow "The Frost Plight" to finish it later and wrote her name next to the book''s name and stamped her stamp next to it on his sheet. "Oh also Moon, I heard a little about the incident today. Can you tell me what happened and if you are doing ok" Starlfight asked her. "Well, um my first day hasn''t been going very well. There''s this Skywing in my winglet, Carnelian, who just hates me for no reason. And this Icewing who just switches from being nice to mean. One minutes he''s standing up for me to Carnelian, the next he''s insulting me. Then he got attacked by a Tsunami''s Uncles, Commander Shark, and we managed to hold him at bay for a bit until the others got here. Starflight was shocked and told her to have a good day. He was muttering to himself as he left the room, intending to go to Tsunami''s cave, and then the teachers "lounge" to find her. She then left to go to her cave where she saw Winter lying down, still as if he were asleep but she could hear his mind racing.. She spent a few minutes looking out a small window covered by leaves, admiring the shining moon and stars shimmering far away but with a joyful bright light. Suddenly a sharp pain exploded in her head and she collapsed to the floor. She could faintly hear Winter turning toward her. She could see a flurry of blurry images. A severely scarred Skywing in chains, inside a dark tower, a room of murdered dragonets of all different tribes, herself lying on the ground, a sharp, long object in her chest, and Winter crouching next to her with a shocked expression. A dragon from the towers Lingering in the dark Forgotten but not gone Revenge clouding her mind Escaped from the catacombs Of a prison made of steel She hunts those responsible Two beings from different worlds Both longing for each other Going against their tribes Can only lead to darkness They fight until the end Until they realise their suffering Has to come, to an end. LOL I know that''s a terrible prophecy but I''ve never been good at poems and stuff so yeah. :| oof. "Moon? Moon?" Moon could hear someone saying her name faintly, before her senses came too and she saw Winter standing over her with a concerned face. "I-i''m fine" Moon said shakily. "Ok, good. What was that you were saying just now?" Winter asked. Crap he heard that. Oh no what am I gonna tell him? "It was from a really good scroll I read. I have really bad headaches sometimes and then random phrases from my memory" Moon lied. Winter nodded as though he believed Moon but inside his mind was a different take on this. That is a really weird condition. She is almost certainly lying. But why? Why would she do this. Infact what she said almost sounded like...a...prophecy! But those powers don''t exist anymore, right? Hmm, maybe she did that for attention. Disgusting Nightwing. But Winter thought those last three sentences with a little less gusto. "Do you need help or need to go to the nurse?" Winter said in a bored voice with a hint of concern. "No, I''m fine now. We should get to sleep now" Moon told him. They both lay on their respective beds and slowly fell into a deep sleep. FLAME!!! As Winter slowly opened his eyes, he saw it was still dark, but he could see the faint glow of the sun shining through the window opposite him. He rubbed the dust out of his eyes, before he remembered the events of last night. How Moon had collapsed and he remembered feeling nonchalant but also deep down somewhere, he felt...worried for her. No he didn''t he was just kidding himself right? Then he remembered those strange words Moon had said, in some otherworldly voice while her eyes rolled into her head. They almost sounded like a prophecy. But that was most likely fake and was Moon trying to act like a "Mysterious Nightwing OOOOOOO". Then he noticed that Moon was staring out another window, gazing at the stars. Hey scales blended into the dark so well he didn''t even see her. She looks kinda cute with that face on her. Winter saw Moon blush slightly but then wiped it off her face. "Hey Winter. Whatcha doing awake so early." Moon asked him. "Nothing, just got up earlier. Why are YOU awake?" Winter responded. "Well, I guess we should get ready for school then" Moon sighed. Winter agreed and they started to get their school supplies ready. WARNING!!!: TIMESKIP LIKE 2 hours. I know isn''t worth a warning but I''ll just quickly show a sequence between Flame and Moon like from the original fanfic, cause I liked that part and decided to include it. Moon POV: As Moon was carrying her book toward the next class, in which she was having a special maths lesson since she was in the top 7 and the teachers decided to make some a special maths winglet of the 7 best students at maths. She saw someone turn the corner, he had a horrible burn scar across his snout, and in surprise Moon tripped into him and dropped her books. "S-sorry, I tripped." Moon stuttered, as she was trying to pick up her books. "Yeah sure, stupid *@&#*$!% nightwing" The strange dragon growled at her.You might be reading a stolen copy. Flame snarled at her, while pinning her to the while with one set of talons. He fished around in his pocket before pulling out a pouch, which had small black dusty cubes inside. He smiled at her menacingly and put on a small pouch on his other claws and crushed the cube in it. He then smeared it over her leg and Moon screamed a gut wrenching scream. He then said: "My name is Flame and don''t forget. If you mess with me again I''ll use all of these on you. And don''t you dare tell anyone about this." With that Flame left her sobbing on the floor, clutching her leg with pain. Winter POV again. As Winter was trying to find his next maths class, since he got lost he went down a random hallway, hoping to find someone to give him directions. Instead he found Moon crying on the floor, clutching her leg, which had something black on it, almost like coal dust. His instincts kicked in and he gently picked her up and took her to one of the underground caves, all the while she was writhing in pain. He gently put her in a small lake and slowly as the dust washed off, she clutched her leg less hard and then focused on Winter. "Th-thanks Winter. I owe you" Moon said to Winter, smiling but then wincing. "Your Welcome. What was that black stuff and how did you get it on you. Winter saw her hesitate before she said: "His name is Flame. I accidentally bumped into him and he got angry so he pinned me to the wall and-and rubbed that stuff on me. It hurt so much" Moon said, shivering. Winter felt rage boiling in his blood as he thought of the unfriendly Skywing. When he got that skywing he was going to pay. But Winter had no idea why he was this mad over the stupid nightwing girl. Later they explained to the teachers that Moon had tripped and fallen and hurt herself by dislocating her leg. Then Winter had found her and helped her relocate it (don''t know what it''s called lol). They went to a chemistry lesson next as they got there a little early they waited for the rest of their winglet. They saw that little beakers had been set up and about 8 different jars of things were at the front desk. Then the teacher and most of the winglet arrived, except for Carnellion, who they later learned had gotten detention. They were instructed to take specific amounts of different chemicals and mix them to create mini reactions. Unfortunately Winter had accidentally taken too much of one thing and mixed it with too little with another so nothing happened at first. Then the mixture foamed and exploded, covering them both in yellow and green dust. Moon blinked at Winter and raised her eyebrows, while everyone else did the same, before they started laughing profusely, all of them falling to the floor, except Quibli, who was glaring at them. Winter frowned at his classmates before bursting out laughing. Everyone, including Clay the teacher, was laughing (again except Qibli) but Moon and Winter were laughing the most, as they looked at each other looking like yellow-green bugs with their normal respective black and white colours mixed in. Wacky Incidents "Hey, how was I supposed to know it would explode. No one told me that. Clay should have prepared more" Winter huffed at Moon. "Well there was instructions on what to use to your not one to talk" Moon said as she smiled at him. They joked for a while, enjoying the fact they could skip the rest of the lesson. Moon giggled a lot, apparently having forgotten about Flame, and that made Winter strangely happy. Eventually they came to an underground lake, which Winter jumped in instantly, relishing the cold, before he noticed she wasn''t getting in. He asked her way and she said it was too cold. Then he decided to just push her in. They started laughing as she got soaked and proceeded to splash each other. For some reason this filled Winter with a feeling. A feeling of warmth. He had rarely experienced this feeling, only when he had played with dead-no he wasn''t dead!, brother Hailstorm. Then he felt the water by one of his legs move suddenly and then a few small shocks ran through the water into his leg. He panicked and swam toward shore, where the Moon was drying off. "Moon? Moon we have to leave NOW! There''s an electric eel in the water" Winter told her urgently. After first she didn''t believe him, but the way he said it and something is his voice convinced her. They resolved to tell Clay, and walked back in uneasy silence at the realization that Winter almost died. ______________________________________________________________________________ Later on in the day... ______________________________________________________________________________ The rest of the day was uneventful except for maths, which he did with Qibli, Carnelian and Kinkajou, since Turtle and Moon were in the advanced class, in which another Skywing from the Diamond Winglet called Snarl, decided to pick a fight with Carnelian, in which the brawl that ensued was not stopped, as Starflight was the teacher and since he couldn''t see them he wasn''t able to help, as Fatespeaker would come and help him from Classroom to classroom. If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation. Then they went to have the end of day food break, in which Winter would finally be able to go and eat that SaltWater crocodile from before. Everyone, including Carnelian had decided to eat at the same table together. They laughed and joked for a while before Winter and Moon grew sick of the bland taste of the croc. Qibli had decided to just take their portions and after they finished eating, they went back to their respective caves. The next day, some more weird/upsetting things happened. Qibli''s homework was stolen, and the culprit ended up being Ostrich, a little Sandwing who was struggling in maths and was hoping to cheat on his stuff. Then Kinkajou had a run in with the child of one of the Nightwings who had kidnapped her and helped run the experiments, which caused her to have a panic attack as he had watched his father experiment on her and had laughed and jeered at her. It was made EVEN worse by him laughing and booing at her. Turtle had gotten into a fight with Anemone and had been berated in a letter by his mother Queen Coral, after Anemone had sent her a letter framing Turtle in a bad light. And Winter finally had a fight with Flame, although Flame had no idea why Winter was so aggressive toward him, never suspecting how he spent so much time with Moon, as they were in the same cave and winglets. When Winter went to go to his cave he was grabbed by Qibli who was glaring daggers at Winter. He said with venom in his voice to leave Moon along, because she would his'', not Winter''s. They argued for a long time, unaware of Moon watching them, and then leaving. Things got physical and then Winter through Qibli over his head, sending him into the wall. He left and saw Moon lying on her bed, asleep, and he went to bed on his small little Ice ledge. Hey Guys! Please remember to follow this story or rate/review it to support it. I''ve seen I have been getting lots of views but no feeback and it''s kinda making me lose interest in the story. Let me know if you still want me to continue. Chemistry that doesnt mix Moon''s View After hearing the argument and then fight between Winter and Qibli, Moon was upset. How could they fight like that over her? She wasn''t anything special. Aside from her powers of course. But no one knew about those. And how could they "claim" her. She didn''t even know how she felt about the rest of her winglet, much less them. She had a giant headache, as the resentment and anger between Winter and Qibli was transmitting itself to her via her mind reading. Right now she decided to just go to bed and sleep for the night. The next morning Winter was gone but it was still really early, the sun had barely risen and class wasn''t on for another 1-2 hours it looked like. So Moon decided to do some homework, the only one she had now was some History on the War. Huh this is surprisingly interesting. I always thought that the Mudwings had destroyed the Seawings palace. But it was actually the Skywings. And they used some sort of cactus, which is flammable and explodes!? Wow that sounds really destructive. But apparently a small group of Icewings that sided with Scarlet and Burn had also helped, and done most of the destruction to the other dragons, while the Skywings burned the palace. MAYBE THAT''S WHY SHARK ATTACKED WINTER? MAYBE HE LOST SOMEONE IN THE ATTACK AND SAW A LONE ICEWING TO TAKE REVENGE ON? Moon decided to go exploring and visit the cave she and Winter had gone to clean up. Maybe she could see this Electric Eel. But when she got there the other teachers were already there and were trying, cautiously to get the Eel out, holding it in a net but being careful not to touch it. Moon wandered some more. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Did you know this story is from Royal Road? Read the official version for free and support the author. Moon decided to go visit the library since there was still an hour until school started. When she got there she found an absolutely captivating book called "The Extra Individual". It was about how dragons who felt they were the third wheel in anything, school/group projects, friendships, or more often felt more sad and less motivated for hundreds of reasons. When there was 20 minutes before class she borrowed it using the new book borrowing system, thanked Starflight and left. She went to Chemistry next and slowly the other''s in her winglet poured in. Then Clay made an announcement. He said that for the rest of the year there would be pairs of dragons working together. Of course pairs may work with other pairs on special occasions. The pairs were: Qibli and Carnelian, Turtle and Kinkajou, Moon and Winter. When Moon heard this her heart jumped a little but she didn''t know why. Also the other winglet''s partners included Icicle and Big Tail, along with Flame and Tamarin. Moon was worried for the small rainwing as she didn''t know if Flame would hurt her or be mean to her. Later on near the end of the class, Clay told them their year project. So far they have been learning about cells, and the things that make them such as a nucleus. Also, Moon realised, Winter had not had any negative thoughts about being partnered with her. Maybe they could be friends. Now they had to do some quick work, just to revise what they''d learnt. They would swap with their partner and grade the other''s work. Moon''s of course was perfect, while Winter got two things wrong. He didn''t seem grateful she had pointed out his mistake but under his breath, he said a small thank you. This year they were tasked with making a replica of a cell, using the information they learn in class to add onto it as homework every lesson. Now Moon was wandering the corridors, since it was the end of the day and no one was around so she could relax. Then she felt someone slam into her, and saw the hostile eyes of Flame. He threatened her and asked if she told anyone what he had done. When she said no, he relaxed slightly and explained what he had. It was a powdered Dragonviper venom, it was very painful but not deadly in any way. Then he let Moon go, cackling at her how if she told anyone now she would be even more in trouble. Because the powder could be quite deadly if ingested... Moon went back to her cave. It seemed like Winter was still out so she let the tears out. She cried and cried until she went to sleep, because she was so scared of what would happen to her if she told anyone about Flame. Sucker Punched Winter''s Perspective Winter noticed something was wrong the first class the next day with Moon. She was stuttering even more than usual and seemed...well not shy but nervous. Anxious. Afraid. He then noticed what looked like a set of talon marks on her arm. Not bad, or deep, but it was there, and it would have hurt. His fury boiled over as he thought of who might hurt her, but he decided to wait until the end of class to ask her what happened. When the bells rang and the class started streaming out of the cave and going to the next class, Winter pulled Moon aside in the hallway, still walking to class but more talking. "What happened?" Winter asked Moon briskly, but looking at her with concern. "What? How do you know something happened" Moon asked confused but a little relieved. "I can tell when something is wrong with someone. I''m good at reading people. So tell me. What happened?" "If I tell you, you won''t tell anyone right?" Moon asked him. He agreed and she told him about Flame. About his Dragon Viper powdered venom and how he had harassed her with it and threatened her. Winter realised he was grinding his teeth, and he felt as if he had all the fires of hell burning inside. He didn''t know why but he felt resolute that HE WOULD beat up Flame. "Also I have a question. Why did you tell me what happened. Especially since Flame threatened you?" Winter asked softly. "Well...I think it''s because I trust you. So far you''ve been nice to me, and you''ve stood up for me." Moon said just as quiet. He stood, dumbfounded as she walked past him, her tail gently brushing against his, as she entered the classroom. He felt as if something in his brain..clicked. As if something had unlocked and it was less sophisticated and more messy than the rest of his mind. HOW COULD SHE TRUST ME!?!? I am literally the most untrustworthy and the most mean dragon in our winglet. Wouldn''t anyone, even Carnelian or Qibli (well maybe not Carnelian) be better to tell this secret. In any case he went to class, knowing whatever had happened in his brain, he would dwell on it for a while. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Now they were back in class, apparently under even MORE revision, the model of a cell was pushed forward for tomorrow''s lesson. Right now, Winter and Moon were working on it, and so far it was going ok, but they were not going to be done by the end of the lesson at this pace. Right now Moon was handling making the endoplasmic reticulum (I honestly have no idea what that is lol) and Winter was trying to do the Mitochondria and failing spectacularly. His serrated claws made it especially hard to mold the Clay, since it made lots of unwanted cuts and slashes. The bells ended and Moon walked out with Winter. She was carrying the model and clay. "I''ll take the model and clay back to our cave, why don''t head to history now Winter." Moon told him, carrying the model cautiously so as not to drop it. "Well, I agree. But I''ll come with you anyway. To make sure nothing happens to the model" He added as she looked surprised. And to make sure nothing happens to you Moon looked down and then looked up again smiling at him, and he could see the fading of a blush on her cheeks. The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. "Yeah, sure Winter." Moon said smiling. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As they filed into History class they saw the others already there, and Webs looked up at them and glared at them. "Well, I''d expect you to be late Winter, but not you Moon. Both of you, look at the seating plan and go to your seat." Webs harrumphed. At the end of class, while everyone else was filing out Webs asked them to stay back for a moment. So they stood awkwardly for a minute, Web''s just staring at them intently. It was almost weird. "Look, I know you''re all forming new relationships and trying out new things but you still need to be on time to class ok. Keep school stuff separate from personal stuff and don''t let that interfere with your education." Webs told them. Both Moon and Winter nodded. He saw Moon was blushing before he realised he was too "Thanks sir. But we weren''t doing...whatever you thought we were doing. For science we have a project to make a model and we were taking it back to our cave to finish later" Moon said awkwardly. "Alright, I believe you. But I can tell when there is something going on between dragons and you too are no secret. Anyway you should be getting to your next class now" Webs said to them, smiling slightly. They were both relieved to be out of there and they started walking toward the next class with a note saying Webs had kept them in class for being late. Woh woh woh woh. No way do I like the Moon that way. How-how could I like a nightwing that way, I''m an Icewing. But why did I blush like that before. And why do I get so protective with Moon. Maybe I do love her. Winter saw her blush again. Huh, maybe she just blushes a lot. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Moon''s POV Quibli was sitting uncomfortably close to Moon at the prey centre, just as he had been doing the last few days. She would have thought someone as smart as him would have realised she didn''t like him after she would scoot away and he would scoot on with her. Or he did and he just didn''t care that she didn''t like him. Especially after she heard the fight between them. Kinkajou asked Quibli to move away from Moon and he agreed, apologizing to her, but he didn''t mean it, Moon knew this from looking into his mind. "Well, if it isn''t the lying little Nightwing. I thought we had a deal idiot" a familiar voice snarled at her. It was Flame. Moon reluctantly looked up at the red dragon, glaring at her like she had killed every single Skywing except him. "I don''t know what you''re talking about," Moon replied, avoiding eye contact. Oh no what if my friends find out. They''ll surely report it to the teacher and I''ll get in trouble too for not reporting it at first. And how did he find out? The only person I told was...Winter. Moon scowled at Winter and hissed "You told!? I trusted you!" "No! I Swear I didn''t tell anyone!" Winter said, surprised. She looked into his mind to see if he was really trustworthy. She promised herself she would never do this but it was too important this time. Thankfully he wasn''t lying. Moon looked sorry and said "Sorry, I guess I just panicked". "Uh, wait so what''s happening" Turtle spoke for the first time this lunch "Well, let me explain. This little brat saw me with something she shouldn''t have and snitched to someone even though I told her not too. "You do realize that you just admitted you did something bad openly to FIVE dragons, right" Kinkajou asked him, raising her eyebrows. (Do dragons even have eyebrows!?!?!?!?) "So" Flame snorted. Oh I''m such a friggin idiot. I can''t believe I said that, I can''t stop all of them from telling and the Icewing looks like he wants to fight me. Oh crap. Suddenly Moon felt sharp claws grab her arm and haul her to her feet, gripping her arm so hard it started to bleed a little. "Hey, hey stop. Get of me" Moon said to him, raising her voice which did absolutely nothing. Flame glared at her. "You''re gonna pay for this Nightwing lizard. Just you wait until-" Flame suddenly yelped in pain but he still had a grip on Moon that suggested he wasn''t letting go soon. "Let. Her. Go. Now" Moon was shell shocked that Winter, off all dragons, was standing and pinning Flame''s tail to the floor. Flame faltered for a millisecond before acting tough again. "You wanna go popsicle? Cause I''''l bash you right here and-" Flame grunted in pain as Winter sucker punched him and he stumbled away from them. So satisfying to image this lmao Moon''s heart was racing and now she moved away again as Quibli tried to put his wing around her for comfort. When she did this she saw a vaguely sad expression on his face for a moment. Winter left and Flame decided to go harass someone else. Moon decided to go talk to him, but not before a snarky comment from Quibli about how she just wanted to spend time with him. "So you followed me huh. Guess you wanted to say thanks. It''s no big deal, you don''t have to say any corny stuff." Winter told her. "Well uh, I guess I don''t have to know" Moon said softly. Winter looked kinda guilty at killing the mood. They both went their separate ways but one question stayed in Moon''s mind. Who had overheard Moon telling Winter and told Flame. The New Ones Moon¡¯s POV This next week passed without much fuss or incidents other than the occasional run-in with Flame, none of which escalated too much since Winter was with her during those times. Moon liked the peace and quiet she had but Kinkajou had other ideas. ¡°ISN¡¯T IT SOOOO BORING RIGHT NOW?¡± Kinkajou was complaining. Right now Moon was helping her with homework in Kinkajou¡¯s cave, and she wouldn¡¯t stop complaining on how boring it was, but in a nice way (???). ¡°There¡¯s nothing going on. I like action and school drama! Has Flame done anything to you like he said he would. Moon smiled and answered those questions but secretly she was a little worried about the Flame situation. He hadn¡¯t done anything yet but Winter wouldn¡¯t be near her every time Flame was also near her. She thought it was nice of Winter to help her but he couldn¡¯t do it forever. ¡°Oh one more thing Moon¡± Kinkajou said in a sly tone. ¡°It looks like you and Winter have been hitting it off lately, anything you want to tell me¡±. Moon had been so used to remarks about this at this point she didn¡¯t even blush. ¡°No nothing¡¯s going on between us and anyway, if I got with him or any other Icewing¡¡± Moon left it at that as they both knew how catastrophic it would be. Moon continued helping Kinkajou, which showed her kindness. Suddenly a golden dragon¡¯s head popped into the doorway and Sunny said ¡°Hey, sorry to bother you but you winglet just received two new members. Meet Obsidian and Fuji. The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement. A strong looking Nightwing and a shy looking Rainwing stepped through the doorway. ¡°Say hi guys¡± Sunny said cheerfully. ¡°H-hello. I¡¯m Fuji¡± Fuji said shyly. ¡°And I¡¯m Obsidian,¡± the nightwing said. They look nice. I hope they are, and they don''t be mean. Was it really a good idea to come here? I hope mother was right about this. This is a pretty cool school so far. I wonder how they¡¯ll react if I told them I¡¯m a hybrid. Best not too since everyone I¡¯ve met so far hates hybrids. I wish they didn¡¯t but oh well, I can¡¯t change how people think. They look nice though so yeah. So far it seemed like Obsidian wasn¡¯t very open and Fuji was very shy. Then she noticed Obsidian''s strange look. He looked MUCH stronger than all the Nightwings she had met but he also wasn¡¯t an entirely black colour. She noticed that instead of the normal white underbelly Nightwings have it was tinged with brown instead and his spikes were more akin to a Mudwing. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When Quibli, Carnelian, Turtle and Winter returned from their extra math¡¯s class Moon and the Kinkstur (I don¡¯t know why I said that) introduced them to Obsidian and Fuji. Carnelian of course seemed disgruntled that she couldn¡¯t go do whatever she did but everyone expected that. So far Moon and Fuji had been getting along really well, and they had had nice conversations. It also seemed that, surprisingly, Fuji wasn¡¯t scared of nightwing so she wasn¡¯t scared of Moon, which was refreshing. Obsidian was very friendly to everyone and was nice to even Winter when he was grouchy to him. He did get quiet angry when Carnelion muttered ¡°Stupid hybrid¡±, and he confronted her and sent waves of rage from the daggers of his eyes, until she backed down and left the cave. After this he quickly composed himself and apologized to the others and asked them to ignore that. They decided to since it did look like he was a hybrid, only Moon knew for sure, and they realised that it must be very insulting to him if he is one and that Carnelian had insulted him for being one. They just sat down and talked for a while until Sunny came back and took Obsidian and Fuji to show them to their cave.
