《STAR WARS THE FORCE AWAKENS (Rewrite Fanfiction)》 Opening Crawl The Empire has fallen and the Jedi have returned. Years after the rebellion destroyed the Second Death Star, General Leia Organa of the restored republic continues to help lead the fight against the remnants of the Empire.Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. Luke Skywalker, now grandmaster of the growing new Jedi Order seeks to reach out to all force sensitive younglings in the galaxy, though those that ally themselves with the dark side continue to stand in his way. With many systems still occupied by Imperial loyalists, now calling themselves the First Order, Ben Solo, son of General Leia Organa, has been dispatched to the planet Jakku in order to make contact with the resistance fighters there...... Chapter 1: And Darkness To Meet it... Ben was not impressed by the quantity of weapons. Most of the blasters he has inspected were outdated or needed maintenance. The village resistance fighters had laid out all there weapons in a tent for him to look at. "You cannot effectively fight the First Order with these," said Ben to the village head. "I will see to it that the republic will supply you with better weapons." "We need training," said the village head. "They can shoot alright but these men, these boys don''t know how to fight. Not like a soldier they don''t. We''ve made it up as we went along and we''ve done a pretty bang up job so far but the First Order is closing in. Guerrilla warfare isn''t making enough progress." "Yes, I know," said Ben with a wave. "A head on confrontation with the First Order is inevitable. Your people will continue to suffer under their oppression but I promise you that it won''t be for long. The republic will prevail. The wars coming to a close." The village head nodded to him. "Thank you Captain Solo. And for all our sakes I hope your right. I take it it''s onto the next village now?" Ben stepped out. "Yeah but first I gotta take a look at the tent across from us." The village head furrowed his eyebrows. "Why is that?" "You have women here worth fighting for my friend," said Ben with a wide smile. A movement in the starry Jakku sky caught his eye and his smile dissipated. "Damn, its always just before things get good." The nearly indistinguishable object the sky came into view fast becoming an easily recognizable imperial shuttle with its escort of tie fighters. "To arms your under attack!" Ben yelled. As villagers all around him armed themselves or scrambled behind what little cover was available, he made his way to his X-wing fighter which was parked just over a small rise in the sand. Before he could take off however a blaster bolt volley from a tie fighter struck the engines, cooking them. "Fantastic," Ben muttered. He settled for his blaster rifle and went back in the direction of the village. First Order storm-troopers poured out of the shuttle, the villagers blaster shots bouncing off the ships armor, barely leaving any visible damage. It was a pitiful show. The First Orders well trained, well equipped, and well organized troopers cut down the resistance fighters with little effort. This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there. Ben knew it was a n uphill battle so he focused on sneaking the women, children, and old away from the battle under cover of darkness. "Make for the nearest settlement and don''t stop till you get there!" Ben aimed his rifle and squeezed off a shot, hitting a stormtrooper in the neck. Laying down surpressive fire, he made his way to the slumped body of the village head. "C''mon old man we gotta move," he said. The old man was dead though. A blaster shot had torn through his chest. Ben sighed and turned his attention back to the fight. It was over in seconds. Ben and the four remaining fighters were forced to their knees before the shuttle. "Don''t be snarky and maybe they''ll make it quick," Ben said the the others. "Hands up and shut it," said a storm-troopers sergeant. Ben reluctantly obeyed. Heavy footsteps could be heard descending the shuttle ramp. A tall well built figure in black hooded robes stepped onto the Jakku sand. An armored mask clearly made in the tradition of an ancient way covered his head. When he spoke his voice was cool, calm, and collected, a leader of clear prowess. The masked figure towered over Ben. For the first time in a while Ben felt the slightest hint of fear. The deep voice that came from behind the mask did not come booming yet overwhelmed his mind. "The force," Ben managed. "To think that the infamous General Leia Skywalker would send her only son on such a dangerous mission," began the masked man. "Such commitment to the republic...." "More has and will be sacrificed for liberty," said Ben confidently. "Empires built on tyranny always fall." "And yet they always rise," came the cold reply. "It seems we are destined to be locked in conflict forever. One must ask why it is worth resisting at all." Ben picked his ear. "You a First Order philosopher or something? Gotta say this is the first time I''ve had an intellectual discussion with one of the First Order." The resistance fighters laughed to his taunt. Ben flashed them a quick smirk. "We are above the First Order," said the masked man, turning his attention to the women kneeling on Ben''s right. Ben''s smirk disappeared and he felt his blood start to turn cold. "Alright take me but leave them alone," Ben stammered. "I''m your big prize remember?" Ben swore he could actually feel the man''s wicked smile behind that mask. "I can do better." Ben nearly fell back as the jagged red blade of a lightsaber burst into view. Two smaller beams jutted out to the side to serve as a cross-guard. As the man brought his weapon down on the screaming woman Ben let out a pleading, "No!". With a hiss the lightsaber cleaved right through the woman. Succumbing to animalistic rage, Ben got to his feet but the Sith Warrior shot out his palm and Ben found that he could not move a muscle. He was suspended like an object frozen in time by the powers of the Dark Side. "A young Skywalker who has learned nothing from those who have come before," said the Sith Warrior. "Do not test your adversary unprepared." He lowered his saber to point at the woman''s corpse. "Remember that lesson the next time you think of her." "You can hear me in here can''t you?" Ben thought. "I fell your presence trying to break in. The Jedi have returned and they will stop you. When Grandmaster Skywalker comes for you buddy, it will be your end I promise you that." The lightsaber shut off. As stormtroopers led Ben away the masked warrior''s voice filled his mind. "Empires rise and fall, rebellions with them. But the Force remains, the light....and dark to meet it." Chapter 2: Innocence By Rey''s estimate the star destroyer had been abandoned for at least thirty years. Most of the good stuff had already been taken by other scavengers that came before but with a ship this large there was always bound to be something she could sell or use. Scavenging was the only life Rey knew. She had been left as an infant just outside a trading outpost, one of only a handful of settlements to be found in the vast Jakku wasteland. A few scavengers had raised out of pity her till she was seven when she was old enough to fend for herself, at least by their standards. Sometimes when she found time to climb up to the ship''s bridge, Rey would pretend to be an imperial officer giving orders. She would re-enact what might have happened during the battle that brought down the mighty star destroyer. Likely a rebel cruiser had blown through its armor using turbo-lasers. Just about all the weapons on board the craft, whether ship mounted or handheld had been taken and sold. Occasionally Rey would find some blaster cells for stormtrooper rifles. No one ever took the stormtrooper armor since only a fool would wear The Empire''s uniform for themselves. Rey however found some use for them, breaking down the armor pieces and re-purposing the material as she saw fit. Satisfied with the parts she had collected, Rey climbed through a large hole in the hull and slid down the sand hill, using a piece of debris like a sleigh. It seemed to Rey that she was destined to be going through the trash of the desert till the end of her time. The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation. "Maybe we should change it up a little Rey," she thought to herself. "We''ll go for the fighter we spotted farther from here." She sold the parts for a satisfactory sum at the local trade post. After so many years she had earned enough respect as a survivor of the wasteland and a fighter to not be swindled at the scrap shop. Dinner back home was the usual dried jerky and bread. Ten years ago Rey dug out an abandoned imperial walker, a perfectly good AT-AT that had fallen on its side. It''s interior had been her home ever since. In the Jakku wasteland it was everyone for themselves. It was simply the way it had always been. To keep herself from feeling lonely Rey kept herself busy, always tinkering, repairing, scavenging, or sleeping. Anything to keep her mind from filling with unnecessary thoughts. In the past she would cry herself to sleep at the thought of being stuck in the endless stretches of sand for the rest of her life. But she was young, healthy, and still capable. Rey had made her peace with that. Many settlements had gotten themselves in a bind resisting the First Order. Rey often considered joining them. Perhaps she would die a heroic death like the ones that perished in the last major battle of Jakku. Rey chuckled to herself before biting into her bread. "What could the First Order want out here?" Rey thought. "This whole planet isn''t worth the effort." When she had finished her meal she dimmed the lights and tucked herself into her imperial army sleeping bag. "Just be glad your far away from the fighting Rey," she thought before drifting off into a deep slumber. Chapter 3: Unlikely Hero Ben awoke to find himself begin dragged out of his torture device by a single stormtrooper. "Get up quick," said the trooper. Ben obeyed in a haze and was led in a hurry down the corridors of the star destroyer. The stromtrooper seemed to be a frantic hurry which confused him. They ducked into a small maintenance room where, to Ben''s great surprise, the stormtrooper uncuffed him. "What is this?" Ben demanded. "I''m getting you out of here," said the trooper, taking off his helm. The man looking back at him was about his age, dark skinned, short hair and a face full of sweat. "I beg your pardon?"This novel''s true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there. "This is a rescue mission I''m breaking you out," the trooper repeated impatiently. "But I can''t fly a TIE fighter. I need a pilot, can you fly one?" "I can fly just about anything," said Ben, still bewildered. "But hey back up, why are you doing this?" The trooper hesitated. "This is the right thing to do. We killed a lot of civilians today. Something broke and I''m done." Ben smiled and nodded. "Fair enough. You get me to a TIE and I can fly us out of here." "I''ll lead us to the hanger. Just pretend your my prisoner." "Let''s do this." No one paid Ben and his accomplice much heed as they strode through the hanger. No one questioned orders around here. Ben had to admit he admired the discipline. "Stay calm stay calm," the trooper muttered quickly. "I am calm," Ben whispered. "I''m talking to myself," said the trooper. (Generally speaking the rest of this escape scene plays out the same as the movie except there is no BB-8 droid. Ben was just trying to get back to Jakku because the TIE fighter had no hyperdrive capabilities and so they had to find a different ship anyways. They get shot down by the ventral cannons and crash land. ) Chapter 4: A Fateful Meeting An explosion rocked the earth beneath Rey and woke her. "What?!" Rey mumbled, confused. Startled but groggy from having just woken up, Rey fumbled for her old blaster rifle and hopped out of her AT-AT home. She scanned her surroundings with her rangefinder. In the distance just over a sand dune was smoke, clearly from something burning. Rey shouldered her blaster rifle and rushed to the scene. As she came over the sand dune she slowed down, lowering her rifle into a ready stance. It was a First Order TIE fighter. She had seen them fly overhead a couple of times in the past but never up close on on the ground. A man in stromtrooper gear was struggling to pull a man in tattered clothing out of the banged up cockpit. Rey''s instincts told her to help yet also to be cautious towards stormtroopers. What she found off was the fact that neither man was wearing flight gear. "Hey help me!" the stormtrooper called to her. Rey decided that it was better to get on the First Order''s good side rather than bad so she slid down and quickly picked up the downed man''s legs. Together they carried him to Rey''s home. "You live in this thing?" the trooper exclaimed. "Relic from the Battle of Jakku I reckon. Gotta be thirty years old." With moderate difficulty they managed to bring the wounded man into the walker. Rey set to checking his injuries. "Piece of debris went in through his side," said Rey. "Not deep though doesn''t seem to have punctured his lungs."Reading on this site? "Were you two in battle or something?" said Rey, preparing to remove the twisted metal from her patient. The trooper hesitated before explaining himself. "I''m Finn. Many friend is a republic ace pilot. I defected and rescued him from the star destroyer patrolling Jakku space." Rey struggled to contain her excitement and sudden sense of dread. If she was caught harboring defectors and resistance fighters the First Order would have her hide out to tan. "Does he have a name?" Rey asked. With a gentle tug the sharp object was out. She washed the wound with antiseptic before cauterizing it and preparing it for bandaging. "Ben Solo," said Finn. Rey nearly dropped her tools. Ace pilot for the republic and family name Solo? She put two and two together. "Your telling me that the man I am treating right now is Ben Solo, son of the legendary Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo." "General Organa is also a Skywalker," said Finn. "Look we need to get to a ship with hyperdrive capabilities. Do you have a ship?" Rey snorted and wiped sweat from her forehead after he had finished patching Ben up. "If I could afford a ship like that do you think I''d still be here living in this piece of junk?" "Point taken," said Finn, clearly embarrassed. "Oh man Kylo Ren is going to flay me alive. Ben was his prize prisoner." Rey sat cross-legged across from Finn. "Whose that? Your commanding officer?" Finn shook his head. "He''s more than that. They didn''t tell us much but I think he''s a Jedi or something, no a Sith warrior. He can do things that shouldn''t be possible." "The force," Rey breathed. She felt light headed. It was a lot to take in. "Look your safe here," Rey assured Finn, seeing ho nervous he was rocking back and forth in place like he was. "First Order''s got a lot of desert to comb. Wind will blow sand right over your TIE fighter, covering your tracks. I''ll help nature conceal it''s wreckage, you and your friend just get some rest. You''ve both been through a lot." "We owe you one big," said Finn, resting his back against the hull of the walker. Rey smiled and opened the walker''s hatch. "Hey wait I didn''t get your name," said Finn. "It''s Rey," she answered. "Thank you Rey," said Finn, closing his eyes. Chapter 5: Master Of The Knights Of Ren Despite his seemingly calm demeanor, General Hux of the First Order knew Kylo Ren better than to let his guard slack. "The camera footage and witnesses all point to a defecting stormtrooper, not a double agent," said Hux coolly. Kylo Ren observed Jakku from one of the bridge''s many windows. "There is no difference between the two. From the beginning the force willed it so for FN-210 to join the ranks of the republic. He is simply continuing on the path the force set him on." "Then it appears the force is working against us," said Hux, almost impatiently. "Even if it is so I will see it to the end," came the matter of fact reply. "Point of view my generaI. Then was the force was our ally when we beat the republic in the Calamari System?" Hux snorted. "In any case our men will find the downed TIE fighter soon enough. There are few places to hide in the open desert of Jakku. "The Solo boy is unimportant," said Kylo Ren, moving towards the exit. "I leave it to you."This novel''s true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there. Hux shook his head. Sometimes he wondered if he was taking his job more seriously than the Sith warrior. Kylo Ren stepped into the massive mediation chamber in the star destroyer. It was a special installment he requested when the ship was assigned under his command. "Kylo Ren," came a voice that filled the chamber. "Supreme Leader Snoke," said Kylo as the large hologram appeared before him. The mutilated face of his master Snoke came into view. Despite it only being a hologram, Kylo could feel his master''s dark aura. "There had been an awakening," said Snoke slowly. "Can you feel it?" "Luke Skywalker and his jedi order are no doubt growing in size," answered Kylo. "We will find the planet were they train soon enough. Our agents have confirmed that they are not on Corascant, though this was half expected." "Not Skywalker," said Snoke dismissively. "The force will always balance itself make no mistake. But my young warrior balance has many meanings and takes many forms. The light cannot be destroyed, but it can be subdued, corrected, and imprisoned. Like Skywalker before the light seeks to bring into being a new champion to bear its burden." "Then send me to this champion," said Kylo firmly. "For the dark is my ally." Snoke leaned back in his seat. "This one has not yet realized their potential. But when warrior of the light takes up the mantle of the Jedi, you Master of the Knights of Ren will be there to meet him." "You have taught us well," said Kylo. "I am prepared." "We shall see," said Snoke with the faintest of smiles. "We shall see." Chapter 6: Companions Never before did Rey have guests over in her home. She didn''t quite know how to act. Finn wasn''t much of a talker. He spent his time waiting for Ben to wake, staring out across the desert landscape, keeping to himself. The day after Rey found the two men with their TIE fighter, Ben awoke. "Easy there," said Rey, propping him up. "You took a big hit." "Yeah I feel it just fine," said Ben, wincing as he gingerly touched his bandages. "This is Rey," said Finn. "She took care of you, helped me carry you here." "Where is here?" Ben demanded. "My home, the wreckage of an AT-AT," said Rey. "Not too far from where you crashed." Though rough around the edges, Rey had to admit Ben was so hard on the eyes. His toned muscles stretched against his bandage wrappings as he sat up straighter. "We need to get ourselves a ship," he said to Finn. "First Order will be searching for us." "You need to rest," said Rey. Ben sat up, ignoring her. "Thank you for your help but I''m on a mission. I need to rejoin The Republic''s forces." He pushed open the hatch with a grunt. "Where do you think your going?" Rey demanded. "To fight the next fight miss," he replied. "Come on Finn." Finn looked helplessly from Rey''s frustrated face to Ben struggling to climb up the hatch. "I saved you," said Rey. "And on Jakku we don''t do things for free." Ben sighed and let himself back down. "Alright sister what it going to be? My family''s got credits, lots of credits, you can buy yourself a real home." "Take me with you," said Rey. "Riiighhttt," said Ben with a laugh. "Listen sister your not---." "Cut out for this?" Rey interrupted. "Because I''m a girl?" "Hey don''t put words in my mouth ok?" Ben shot back angrily. "Over a third of the rebel alliance was women, real genuine heroes for risked everything for a cause they believed just. You don''t know what your getting into." "I can take care of myself," Rey insisted. Finn put up his hands. "Hey let''s just let her come along. In our situation we could use all the help we can get." "You ever been in battle?" Ben continued. Rey hesitated. "No but I know how to fight." "You ever shoot at someone with that blaster rifle?" "No but---" "Look I don''t know what you think war looks like but its a lot of screamin and dying. I just watched the First Order wipe out a whole village two days ago. Probably won''t be the last time either." "I understand and I''m sorry," said Rey impatiently. "But of all people you should understand. I''ve stuck here a long time. This is my one chance to do something worth something and I''m not going to just let you take that from me. Now I saved your life. You dropped into my world now it only seems proper you show me yours." Ben stared at her comprehensibly for a moment before letting out a sigh. "Pack quick," he said. "We head out immediately." "You need me to guide you," said Rey, shouldering her staff and pack. "I studied the maps," said Ben climbing out. "There''s a trade post not too far from there right? That''s our first stop." Finn followed Ben out with Rey close behind. Before she continued outwards thought she took one good look at the AT-AT. It was never much but it was her home. Rey smiled to herself. "This is it Rey," she thought. "There is only forward." On the way to the trade post Rey bombarded Ben with questions. "Is it true that your father shot down Darth Vader at the battle of Yavin IV?" Ben sighed another one of a series of sighs. "Yes, but Vader survived." "And your mother.....your mother is Leia Skywalker!" "You don''t need to tell me." Rey hesitated before pursuing her next question. "You know the Force then." Ben stopped walking and looked Rey in the eye. "What do you know of the Force?"The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. Rey furrowed her eyebrows and spoke hesitantly. "It''s a mystical power that the Jedi harness isn''t it? They use it to control minds and move objects." The seemingly condescending chuckle that followed irritated Rey slightly. "My mother explained it to me this way," said Ben. "The Force is an energy source that is formed around all things. It binds and holds the universe together. The Jedi don''t own the Force. They simply guide it''s flow." "How do you collect this energy?" Rey asked, still processing what he just said. "Another time sister," said Ben, wiping away sand that blew their way. "Time is short." As Ben went on Finn strode up beside Rey. "The Force is real enough," he said. "Our leader Kylo Ren? I''ve seen him crumple starships with it." "The Sith warrior you mentioned before," said Rey quietly. "Surely he isn''t as strong as Luke Skywalker?" "Don''t think they''ve ever met," said Finn. "But he''s been hell bent on finding him. They say Skywalker''srebuilt the Jedi Order from the ground up. The Skywalker line knows the Force like no others." "Then why isn''t Ben a Jedi?" Rey asked. "He''s a Skywalker and a Solo." "Hey I''ve only known him for a day or more," said Finn. "Well if you managed to get off that star destroyer you two must make a good team." Finn smiled brightly. "That''s for damn sure. I may not have known Ben long, but I know it in my gut that I''d follow him anywhere. Must be a Skywalker thing." "We''re here!" Ben announced. Sure enough they came over a rise in the sand to find the trade post before them. "Water then directions to the nearest star port," said Ben. "I parked my speeder down there," said Rey. "It''s single driver only so you''ll have to hang on right." "It''ll have to do," said Ben. "I''d hide your stormtrooper blaster Finn. It''s a dead giveaway if their are any First Order agents down there." "That and our faces," said Finn. "Lets move," said Ben. As Ben asked around the trade post, Rey accompanied Finn as he explored. he seemed on edge around public places. Rey assumed that he was used to being hated by the common people of the galaxy. "So now that you''ve left the First order," Rey began, making sure no one was listening. "Are you going to join the armies of the Republic?" "Most likely," said Finn. "I only know how to be a soldier. It''s like Ben said. Off to fight the next fight. The good fight." Ben rejoined them looking furious. "They got starship right here but I don''t have enough credits on me to commission a pilot, much less purchase a ship. The princes they offered were just criminal." "Welcome to Jakku," said Rey smiling. "Leaving is a luxury round here." "Did you try telling them your Ben Solo?" said Finn. "Promise them you''ll be rewarded or something?" "I just might try that but you don''t know whose listening here," said Ben. "Nearest starport is pretty far," said Rey. "It will take us a day to get there." "A day for the First Order to possibly find us," said Ben. "I''ll try again." As Ben went off Rey noticed a group of people crowding around a well. Their clothes were as shabby as Ben''s, as if they had just been through a battle as well. "Refugees by the looks of it," said Finn. "Hey get out of here," said a trade post worker angrily at the refugees. "We don''t want any trouble, Republic or First order both." "We just wanted some water," said one of the women. "Just give us two days. We won''t be a bother." "Are you deaf woman?" the worker bellowed. "Your not welcome!" "We need to help them," said Rey, taking up her staff. "Rey wait," said Finn, but she had already taken off. The Abednedo worker was huge and muscular but Rey wasn''t afraid. She had fought off bigger. "Just leave them alone," said Rey, stepping in. "This isn''t your concern girl," he snarled. "Now step aside before I kick you off too." He reached out to shove Rey aside but Rey struck him on the head. "No you''ve really done it!" he roared, clutching his head. He rushed her after he had recovered. Rey side stepped and let loose a flurry of strikes that brought him down. The refugee children behind her cheered. The Abednedo looked up at her with a look of pure contempt. "You''ll never be welcome here again. No one will buy from you anymore I promise you that." "I was leaving anyways," said Rey triumphantly. "Now back off!" The Abednedo''s expression turned to one of fear which satisfied her. "Rey!" Finn cried out from the sidelines. Confused Rey turned around and followed where Finn was frantically pointing as he hopped up and down. The Abednedo wasn''t looking at her in fear but the three TIE fighters that could be seen approaching the trade post fast. "They found us!" one of the refugees cried out. "This is your doing!" The Abednedo sputtered, getting to his feet. "Your doing you---" The barrage of blaster bolts raining down on the trade post cut him off, and the entire place erupted into chaos. "Alright new plan," said Ben, running towards them. "I stole a few access codes to the ships here." Rey pointed to an old freighter close to them. "That one?" "Yeah why not?!" said Ben running towards it immediately. There were explosions all around them as the three companions ran for their lives towards the freighter. once inside Ben and Rey quickly entered the cockpit while Finn strapped himself in the passengers seat. "Can you co-pilot?" said Ben, flipping on the switches. "Never tried but I know machines," said Rey frantically. "Super," said Ben. The engines roared to life and they began to liftoff. A blaster bolt struck the ship and it shuddered in the air. "Finn hit the shields, silver lever on your left the big one," said Ben. "Ok ok," said Finn obeying. "Here we go!" Ben said and the freighter shot forward and upwards, away from the trade post with all three TIE fighters following close behind. "This ships got a pair of laser cannons Finn," said Ben, his hands flying over the controls before and above him. "Just like before." "Alright alright," said Finn, unbuckling and rushing off. "Four minutes to hyperdrive," Ben announced. "I''ll try to find us some cover." "Star destroyer wreckage," Rey suggested. "I can calibrate the on-board computer for easier navigation through tighter spaces." "Let''s do it!" Ben yelled. The freighter sped towards the downed star destroyer at max speed. Ben was an ace pilot. They he maneuvered the ship while evading enemy fire from behind showed raw talent, complimented by experience and extensive training. This was the son of Han Solo. "Two minutes to hyperspace!" Ben yelled. "I got one!" Finn announced on the comms. "Two more to go." "That''s great buddy keep at it!" "Shield''s are failing," said Rey. "Will we make it?" Ben chuckled. He was concentrating hard. "She''s no Falcon but she handles well enough." After powering through the wreck of the star destroyer they shot straight up. The dinstinct screeching of the TIE fighters grinded on Rey''s ears. "Hyperspace here we go!" Ben yelled as they broke through the Jakku atmosphere. It sank in at that moment that Rey was leaving the planet. "This is happening," she thought. With a bang the freight shot forward and the stars all became a blur as they entered hyperspace. The screeching of the TIE fighters stopped. Finn could be heard celebrating through the comms. "Next stop Coruscant," said Ben. "Center of democracy." Rey couldn''t believe it. Jakku was far behind them and now she was headed for the legendary planet of Coruscant. Home of the republic and more importantly the famed Jedi Temple. "This is happening," she said aloud. Ben put a gentle hand on her shoulder and turned her so she faced him. "Hey," he said. "You alright?" A wide grin spread across Rey''s face. "Never better. Thank you." Ben grinned back and patted her on the head before heading to the general quarters. "I need a drink." Chapter 7: The Weapon As the freighter moved through hyperspace, Ben explained to Rey and Finn the current state of the war. "My mother was hesitant to send me to Jakku until she learned that Kylo Ren had been kidnapping young children," said Ben. "Force sensitive children." Finn and Rey exchanged startled looks. "Indoctrinating them and turning them into Sith warriors," said Finn quietly. "Even I didn''t know about this." "Back on Jakku I saw them stow children on the shuttles," Ben continued. "I''m not going to let them be turned. We will stop by a cantina on Takodana. It''s a pro republic planet but the First Order''s got it''s eyes on it." Lights started blinking on the ships dashboard. "Another ship is coming to intercept!" Rey shouted, examining the instruments. Ben squinted at the monitors. "I''m bringing us out of hyperspace. It''s a republic ship." With a bang their freight came to a halt. A second later another freighter appeared, one that looked just as old and banged up. "That''s---" Finn began. "Yeah," said Ben, not quite as impressed as Finn was looking. "Their she is. The Millennium Falcon. What I wan''t to know is how they found us." "Hello son," came a voice on he comms. "Dad how did you find me?" Ben demanded. "Sub dermal tracker," came a hesitant voice. "Your mother''s idea so don''t blame me." "Well a lot of good that did huh?" said Ben angrily. "I ended up having to bust my own hide with the help of a storm trooper defector." "We both have luck as our ally," said the voice. "We can talk more later. We''ll rendezvous on Takodana." When their ship had at last arrived on the lush Takodana, Rey was completely mesmerized by the bright greenery and numerous bodies of water that decorated the planet''s surface. "I''ve never seen so much water," Rey breathed. Ben smiled at her as he landed their freighter just outside a large civilian building by the edge of a lake. "I have a feeling your going to be amazed by a lot of things in the coming days." The three of them disembarked. Finn stretched out his arms with a grunt. Rey took in the welcoming smell of the forest. It was the first time she had ever smelled nature like this. "A woman by the name of Maz Kanata owns this place," Ben explained. "Old friend of my dad''s. Their''s a markets set up right beside it, feel free to explore." Up ahead on the dirt path leading up to the cantina, a group of men in military uniform came into view. "Republic soldiers," said Finn. "General Solo," Rey breathed, staring at the elderly man at the head. Ben cleared his throat loudly. "Hello dad." "So the First Order found you huh?" said Han, walking up to Ben. "Kylo Ren happened to be searching for force sensitive children in the village," said Ben. "An unfortunate coincidence." "Or the will of the Force as your uncle would say," said Han with a sigh. "Well I''m glad your alright kid. Your mother would skewer me if something were to happen to you. I convinced her it would be good for you to take this mission." "Well the mission wasn''t a total loss," said Ben. "Meet my friends, Finn and Rey. Finn busted me out and Rey patched me up." Han gripped Finn''s hand and nodded to Rey. "Can''t say I''ve shook hands with a First Order stormtrooper before. I owe you both for helping Ben." "Really sir, helping the son of Han Solo is reward enough," said Rey. "Well I''ll try to think of something anyways. Drinks first though. Come on!" "It''s a real honor general," said Rey as Han turned towards the cantina. "I never imagined that one day I''d get here, much less leave Jakku." Han chuckled and continued walking. "Jakku huh? After a few scraped on Tatooine I told myself I''d avoid desert planets." As Ben and Han went into the cantina with their men, Rey decided to stay otuside and explore the market. "Not coming in?" Finn asked, turning towards her at the door. "I''ll stay and get some air," said Rey. "I don''t drink anyways." "Alright," said Finn. "I''ll be inside." Rey nodded and took off. Stalls all around the marketplace sold goods she had never seen before. There were powders of differing colors, fish, high end tools, and so much more that she only heard but thought she''d see. "Grilled meat of the Takodana Slitherer!" one seller called out to her. "Fresh caught this morning, best price/weight ratio guaranteed." "No thanks I don''t have a house to cook it," said Rey politely. "You can eat it raw," said the seller. Rey moved on to the next stall. Blades, blasters, and unfamiliar weapons were laid out in a disorganized manner." "Weapons of the highest grade!" said the seller. "I got my own," said Rey, showing him her staff. The arms dealer laughed. "That staff ain''t going to cut it against a blaster young lady. I got some thermal detonators too if you got the credits for them." Rey saw another staff leaning against the stacks of crates behind him. "What''s that?" The arms dealer turned around. "An electro staff!" he said brightly. "Mostly used by law enforcement. You won''t find a more effective close quarters weapon anywhere! Made from phrik alloy, one of the rarest and most durable materials known!"Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on Royal Road. Rey took the electro staff from the arms dealer''s hand and admired the weapon. "I''ll take it." "Splendid!" said the shopkeeper, eyes darting to Rey''s hand as she reached into her pack. "I''ll even throw in a discount if you trade in your old staff." "That would be nice," said Rey. She felt a little pained to part with the staff that had served her so well for so long but her excitement outweighed the feeling. "Were do you come from?" said the dealer as he pocketed Rey''s money. "Jakku," said Rey, we came here with General Solo of the Falcon." "Here to see Maz huh?" said the dealer with a chuckle. "Let me guess. First time away from home?" Rey nodded quickly. "I spent my whole life on Jakku." "Still got some sand on your clothes young lady. I like you. And since your friends with Han I''ll throw in another little something something for you. Call it a celebratory gift in honor of your first purchase away from home being at my humble little shop!" "Your too kind," said Rey. "Back on Jakku they swindle you for every little thing." "Which is why everyone wants to leave there," said the dealer with a hearty laugh. He reached behind him into a small wooden chest. "Ah ha!" he exclaimed, producing a small metallic object. It looked like some kind of tool. "What is it?" Rey asked, taking the object in her hands. It was old but intricately designed. Judging by the activation button and the energy emitter, it was probably some kind of plasma beam cutter. "Your kidding right?" said the dealer with a loud snort. He leaned in. "Been with me for years but I could never fix it. "Won it in a game of cards while back. The person I won it from claimed it was an artifact from the days of the Galactic Civil War, a Jedi''s weapon. A lightsaber." Rey''s eyes widened and her heartbeat quickened like it did when she first met Finn and Ben. "This?" she whispered. her hands shook as she examined the weapon. "I-I can''t take this." She only said it out of courtesy though. "Well its pretty much junk to be honest," said the dealer. "Like I said I could never get it to work. Power cell is of an unfamiliar design. There are no Jedi here to help me understand it either. It''s only right that it goes back to the republic." "Thank you," said Rey gently, kissing him on the cheek. "I won''t ever forget this." "Bah!" he said, waving her away. "It''s just customer relations! Basic tactics of the trade! Now go away before I get I change my mind." Beaming from ear to ear, Rey was pratically skipping by the time she got back to the cantina door. "Did some shopping I see," said Ben as he stepped out. "Look at this!" Rey said, showing him the lightsaber. She couldn''t contain her excitement. "You know these right? Can you fix it?" Ben stared down at the weapon. His father came out of the cantina from behind and noticed the lightsaber. "Woah now where did you get that?" "From the dealer right ove---" Rey felt faint. The lightsaber suddenly felt heavy in her head. Strange images began flashing before her. Ben said something to her she didn''t quite catch. "I''m alright," said Rey, stumbling. "Yeah, I don''t think so," said Ben, getting close to examine her face now. "Your turning pale." "Take her inside," Han suggested. "Hurry I think she''s going to pass out." Everything was a blur and Rey lost feeling in her legs. The images came more quickly and in greater numbers. Ben shouted something before the void consumed her. After Rey had been placed on a bed within one of the cantina''s spare rooms, Ben called Finn over. "The force is strong with her," said Ben. "It was only for a moment Finn but I felt it." "You think she''s a Jedi?" Finn asked nervously. "She never mentioned being trained in the Force." "No I don''t think she''s ever connected to the Force until now. That lightsaber must have awakening something within her." Before Finn could reply a republic soldier rushed into the bedroom. "Sir! First Order star destroyers just jumped in!" "What!?" said Ben. "How?!" Finn grabbed his shoulder. "Your subdermal tracker. They might have found it when they tortured you then modified it so that it would work for them as well." "Fantastic," said Ben. "Mother''s own plan to keep her baby boy on a leash working against the republic." They rushed outside to find republic troopers and civilians taking up positions. "We need to find cover in the trees," said Han. "Back on the Falcon, Chewie''s made contact with the republic forces. They''re on their way." "No we make a stand here!" Ben insisted. "I''m not leaving Rey." "This whole place is going to be a target," said Han firmly. "We''ll be less visible in the tress. Carry her out if you have to." "Too late for all that," said Finn. Sure enough a swarm of TIE fighters moved towards them over the lake. "Spread out and aim for the cockpits!" Han yelled. The TIE fighters began pummeling their position with green laser fire. Debris rained down from the top of the cantina. The people all around Ben fire back but the TIE fighters were too nimble for them to inflict any real damage to their forces. Two republic troopers set up a heavy laser on a tri pod. "I''m going for Rey!" Ben yelled. "You''ve had enough close calls already," said Han, pulling him back. "Get to the Falcon. The men will see to her." Ben tried getting away but his father pulled him down and looked him dead in the eyes. There was no arguing his way out of this. Though his father was always looser on him than his mother, he knew when to plant the foot. "Alright I''ll wait for her there," said Ben. "The Force is with her. Uncle Luke would want to meet her. Trust me." "Go!" Han yelled. He landed an expertly placed shot on a TIE fighters wing attachment pylon, bringing it down. As Ben rushed off a soldier tapped Han on the shoulder. "Reinforcements sir." Finn looked up just in time to see dozens of x-wing fighters jump out of hyperspace. Several TIE fighters were immediately blown out of the sky. "Republic capitol ships are keeping those star destroyers busy," said a soldier next to Finn. "Still we better move before they reinforce their own forces with ground troops." Finn spotted First Order shuttles coming towards them. "We need to get out of here!" he cried. "Hux will be sending his best soldiers. He knows the Falcon is here." "General Solo its time to go!" the soldier yelled to his commanding officer. "Fall back to your ships!" Han yelled. Finn looked around. He didn''t see Rey anywhere. No one had carried her out of the cantina yet. Fortunately the building was still mostly intact. Finn rushed into the cantina and up the stairs. He picked up Rey and her belongings with a grunt off the bed and made his way out as quickly as he could. "We''ll take her," said a republic trooper. "Get yourself to a ship!" "Don''t you lose her," said Finn, handing her over. The republic troopers placed her on a stretcher and began to move. Batting her eyelid, Rey was had awoken, likely from the commotion of the battle. "I feel cold," said Rey, looking up at Finn with fearful eyes. "Everything''s going to be alright," said Finn reassuringly. Out of the corner of his eye he caught sight of a tie interceptor loom over them before landing with grace. The pilot clearly had great prowess. Out of the hatch rose Kylo Ren. "Move!" Finn urged the men carrying Rey. It was too late. Kylo Ren thrust out his hand and Finn was blasted back by some invisible force along with the republic troopers. Rey''s stretcher did not move however but in fact remained suspended in midair. She began floating towards Kylo Ren''s ship. The Millennium Falcon''s engine filled Finn''s ears as it hovered up to his side. "Come one!" Han yelled from the lowered ramp. The troopers dragged Finn as he struggled and protested. "Rey!" he screamed desperately. Kylo Ren levitated down from the top of his fighter and began to advance on the Falcon. Han fired shot after shot at the Sith warrior but each blaster bolt was deflected by that crimson lightsaber with ease. As soon as Finn was onboard the ship began to lift off. "We left her," said Finn as Han shove him into a seat behind him in the cockpit. "I can''t believe we left her!" "What!?" said Ben, who Finn just noticed was sitting behind a wookie in the co-pilot''s seat. "Hit it Chewie!" Han commanded. The ship began to shake. The Falcon was being pulled back down. "It''s Kylo Ren," said Finn. "Ben you know the Force can''t you counter this?" But Ben seemed just as stunned as he was. "Max power!" Han yelled. With a jerk the Falcon blasted off into the sky and the shaking stopped. "So where''s Rey dad?" Ben said angrily, locking eyes with his father. "Alive," said Han, with a heavy sigh. "That''s what matters. I''m sorry son. We would have met a worse fate if we stayed." "She''s in this mess because or your tracker," said Ben jabbing his finger at Han. "If you''d just put a little more faith in me." "Let''s just get back to mother," said Han wearily. "She''ll know what to do. They continued on in silence. When they cleared the atmosphere, Finn could see republic MC85 star cruisers hovering above the planet. To his right he could see the First Order Resurgent-class star destroyers in the distance. Some of them were making the jump to hyperspace. "The''re pulling back," said Han. It was a victory for the republic but it didn''t feel like one to Finn. As the star destroyers left he knew Rey was leaving with them. Chapter 8: General Organa The moment the Falcon landed inside the docking bay of the MC85 cruiser, Ben rushed off the ship with Finn hurrying behind. "Mom!" Ben called out as he entered the bridge. Before him stood his mother Leia Organa Solo Skywalker. Hey mother''s full name was a mouthful but she was proud of every family name she had been given. Ben''s adopted grandfather, Senator Bail Organa was a hero of the republic during the Galactic Civil War and was responsible for the conception of the Rebel Alliance. "Mother we need to go after those star destroyers," said Ben, approaching her. Leia shook her head and cupped Ben''s head in her gentle hands. "Your father told me you''d been captured. Are you alright? They hurt you didn''t they?" "That''s not important right now," said Ben. "Look they took a friend of mine on one of their ships. We need to chase them! Kylo Ren''s been taking force sensitive children, turning them to the dark side. He might be building a Sith empire to match Uncle Luke''s Jedi Order." There were murmurs all around the room. A look of distress flashed in Leia''s eyes. "This is indeed disturbing news but where are they taking them? I''m sorry son but the fleet also needs to prepare before blast off towards battle again." "I know where they might be taken them," said Finn. Ben and Leia turned to him sharply. "Who is this?" Leia asked. "Stoomtrooper for defected," said Ben, patting Finn on the back. "He helped me escape." "Then our family will forever be in your debt," said Leia, taking Finn''s hands. "It was a team effort," said Finn, clearly flustered. "Rey helped us out a lot too. Patched up Ben and welcomed us into her home. The First Order has a large base on the planet Ilum. It''s where General Hux and Kylo Ren launch most of their operations."Unauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Report any sightings. "We still need time to prepare the fleet," said Leia. "I''m sorry Ben, but we can only trust that the Force will protect your friend." "The Force never showed me such kindness," Ben muttered, though only Finn seemed to have caught it. As Ben left the bridge, Finn decided to venture on a sensitive topic. "For a Skywalker you don''t seem that keen on being much like the Jedi," said Finn. Ben shook his head. "It''s always on people''s minds when they meet me. Being a Skywalker its hard to ignore. I''ve tried Finn I mean really tried but my connection with the Force has never been good. Sometimes my mother jokingly says that its a problem I inherited from my dad but Uncle Luke thought it to be something else." He sighed and stopped walking. "I feel the Force but the relationship isn''t quite there. I can move rocks, slowly, but I never got any further from that. I became discouraged, and started training to be a pilot instead." "Well your a damn good one," said Finn. "I''ve never seen any First Order pilot maneuver a TIE like that. That was your first time in one too." Ben seemed to brighten up a little. "They say my grandfather Anakin Skywalker was a prodigy, both as a pilot and a Jedi. I guess I inherited the former half." "Or you just got it from your dad," Finn pointed out. "Package deal. You get his strengths, but also his weaknesses." Ben smirked. "I''ll never look at a stormtrooper the same way again. Thanks Finn." Finn nodded. "Now, how do we get Rey back?" "Let''s talk to my dad," said Ben. "Breaking out people is more his line of work." "Not quite," a voice interrupted. It was Ben''s father Han. "Smuggling and jail breaking aren''t the same but I did smuggle away escapees in the past." Han sighed and got up close to Ben, locking eyes. "Look kid your mother may be stubborn but she knows that she can''t control you anymore like when you were a little one riding on my knee. If you were to go to the hanger right now and grab a ship? Someone would have to stun you to stop you." "So you''ll help?" Ben asked, unsure how to read between the lines. "You''d go even if I refused," said Han with sigh. "Which means I don''t really have a choice. Your mother still needs to prepare t he fleet though which means we''ll get there first, scout out the bases defenses for them." "Back up back up!" said Finn waving his hands. "You can''t just fly a single ship into a First Order base!" "We will hyperspace right up to the planet''s surface," said Han. "It''s tricky to pull off and if our timing isn''t right we could disintegrate on impact or something. Done right we would slip right under past their sensors." "We would have to use the Falcon naturally," said Ben. "Expect passengers. I plan on busting Rey and as many kidnapped children as I can." "Assuming that they''ve not been turned yet," said Finn nervously. "One hour," said Han, holding up his finger. "I''ll see you two in the hanger." Chapter 9: Kylo Ren Rey had woken up in her cold cell in the planet Ilum, shortly after they arrived. To her shock the only other prisoners held in the cell block were children or varying races and cultures. "What are you doing to them?" Rey demanded a passing guard. He ignored her and continued on his patrol. Two men in dark armor with shock batons at their side came to her cell. They were purge troopers, elite enforcers of the Empire, capable of going toe to toe with even Jedi in some cases. "You can follow us willingly or you we can stun you and then haul you out," said the purge trooper on her right. "Your choice." Rey reluctantly decided to follow them. They didn''t bother to cuff her but she doubted they needed to. There wasn''t any point in resisting and getting herself pummeled. She hoped cooperating would at least increase her chances of coming out of it all in one piece. She liked to think that Ben was out there back with the republic, already coordinating a rescue attempt for all the prisoners at the base. The purge troopers chained her against a wall. Rey fearfully scanned the room for torture instruments. To her relief she saw none but it was possible that someone was bringing them. The purge troopers left without another word. A tall dark figure in robes appeared at the doorway. He wore an armored helmet of seemingly ceremonial design. At his hip hung a familiar object. A lightsaber with a black hilt. "Your a sith," said Rey. "And you are no jedi," said the figure, stepping into the room. "The force is strong in you however. But you have yet the skill to call upon it." This was news for Rey. The Force was nothing more than a mystical, almost fictitious concept not too long ago. Now this sith she had just met was telling her it was with her. "You should be grateful," said the man quietly. His voice was somewhat muffled and almost mechanical sounding behind that mask. "It is the only reason why your still here." "You must be Kylo Ren," said Rey trying to sound defiant and determined. "I will not be turned."The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement. Kylo Ren thrust out his hand and Rey screamed as her head was slammed back against the wall she was chained too. A painful feeling like a spoon being rammed into her exposed brain overwhelmed her. Numerous memories from the recent past surfaced all at once in her mind. "So he''s told you about me," said Kylo Ren. "FN-2187." "Finn," Rey managed to say. She saw herself caught in the jaws of wild animals. They were trying to pull her apart. She knew those experiences weren''t real but she felt them nonetheless. "I can break you right now," said Kylo calmly. "You have spirit, but mere will cannot match the power of the force. Tell me that you cannot be turned again. Let us hear that same certainty. Tears welled up in Rey''s eyes and he began to sob, a small released for the agony that was overtaking her. She was sure, hoping that she would lose consciousness from the pain that shot through her brain as if a thermal detonator had gone off in her skull. Suddenly her head stopped being force back by some invisible force. The pain subsided somewhat and Rey drew in deep labored breaths. Her lips sagging loose and she salivated in her daze. "The Supreme Leader desires younglings," said Kylo, holding her head up by the chin to make sure she was listening. "But with the right push even an adult mind can be into an impressionable child''s." "Why are you doing this?"said Rey weakly. "Can''t you see what your doing is wrong?" "With the Empire there was unity and order. Sheev Palpatine ended the Galactic Civil War and brought the arrogant Jedi Order to their knees in a single day. Without the Jedi''s meddling hand in political affairs the galaxy returned to normalcy." "And the Sith?" said Rey. "Did they not manipulate in the shadows?" "You will remember well that it was the rebel alliance that reintroduced conflict back into the galaxy. We of the sith prefer a more primitive lifestyle. We did not sit in our lavish temples, looking down on the populace of Coruscant from our high council chairs. When the work is done we would go to Korriban, there we would live out our time until the Dark Side calls on us again to return to the fray." Rey had heard of Korriban in the stories. The supposed ancient home world of the sith. "There can only be two," said Kylo Ren. "A master and a apprentice. Two Sith lords to guide the rest. When you turn you will begin to ascend the ranks quickly, giving your natural affinity. In time when I ascended to my master''s place you could be there at my side. A gifted, and beautiful lady of the sith." Rey gritted her teeth. She didn''t think she could bear more of Kylo Ren''s force powers but she didn''t want to give him the satisfaction of knowing she was close to giving in. "Never," she hissed. To her surprise Kylo merely looked at her. "Your vision is clouded. Think and perhaps giving some time you will learn to see on your own." With that he left the chamber, leaving Rey feeling relieved and bewildered. She couldn''t stop shaking. It was as if he had violated and penetrated into the most private recesses of her psyche. She knew that even if she did escape or if rescue came, she would never be the same again. Chapter 10: Infiltrating the Base The Millennium Falcon sped through hyperspace, the crew on edge, dreading the possibility of an impact they definitely wouldn''t survive. "Coming up on Ilum Chewie!" Han said. "Now!" The surface of Ilum exploded into view and Ben went rigid with fright. His father quickly wrestled with the controls, forcing the ship to angle upward harshly. The Falcon shook as the bottom of the ship brushed against snow covered trees. "We''re clear we''re clear!" Han shouted. "I''ll guide you to a good landing spot," said Finn. "There is a hanger that is used to store ships and equipment waiting for repairs. Not much traffic there." The Falcon glided low. In the distance Ben could see TIE fighters flying over massive structures. Han landed the Falcon in a small clearing surrounded by trees not too far from the hanger Finn described. They had brought a dozen republic commandos with them for this mission. The plan was to sabotage the base''s sensors and relay all information about the base''s defensive capabilities. "Chewie and I will take the troops," said Han to Ben. "You and Finn will find the girl. Stay in touch on the comms and rendezvous here when all is done." Ben nodded and took off with Finn, weapons out. They rushed towards the hanger and quickly ducked behind some munitions crates to spy on the people within. Ben had brought Rey''s belongings with him on the Falcon, including the lightsaber she had acquired. Constructing a lightsaber was one of the final steps in a Jedi''s training. He didn''t want to take the weapon from Rey but he figured the saber should go to more responsible hands. "There''s only two stormtroopers as far as I can tell," said Finn, scanning the area. "Could be some engineers behind those TIE bombers though." He caught Ben already moving up ahead. "Great," said Finn. Following close behind, Finn noticed Ben raise his blaster and quick as he could blink, eliminated three engineers and a one of the stormtroopers, tackling the last one to the ground. "One false move and you die," said Ben menacingly. Finn quickly ran up to Ben panting. "Hey maybe some communication next time alright." "Sorry," said Ben, not taking his eyes off the stormtrooper. "Used to flying solo." Finn shook his head and looked down at the trooper. It was strange being on the other side. Only a few days ago he was one of them. "We are looking for prisoners," said Finn. "Er...force-sensitive prisoners. The one''s Kylo Ren''s been looking for." "Look I just guard this hanger alright?" said the trooper with a stammer. "I don''t know where they take the prisoners!" "Don''t lie to us!" Finn snapped. "He isn''t," said Ben steadily. Finn stared at him. "How can you be sure?" "I feel it," said Ben with a sigh. He took a shock baton from his belt and knocked the trooper out with it. "I know where Rey is." "What!?" said Finn. "How? When?" "Just now," said Ben. "She''s reaching out to me with her feelings. I-I don''t think she''s aware of what she''s doing."The genuine version of this novel can be found on another site. Support the author by reading it there. Finn was taken back. "You can feel her? Like the Force?" "Yeah...." said Ben, who seemed to be distracted by something in the air, barely paying Finn any attention. "Follow me." Ben and Finn quickly changed into the uniforms of the engineers before locking up all the bodies in a closet. "Might be a while till they discover this mess but let''s not bet on it," said Ben. "Now hurry!" Several speed lifts and winding hallways later they at last came to the cell block they were looking for. "She''s here," said Ben, whispering to Finn as a patrol of security guards passed. "I can almost hear her calling to me. Can''t make out the words though." "This is crazy," said Finn. "I''ve never seen the Force work like this up close. I mean, I''ve seen Kylo Ren do plenty of horrible stuff but this is something else." "What are you doing here?" said the prison guard, approaching them. "Yeah I''m---" Ben whacked him on the head with his blaster pistol and stunned the purge trooper behind him before he could ready his electrostaff. Ben and Finn searched through every cell they came to. Sure enough it was all children that Finn saw. "Rey!" Ben practically shouted suddenly, startling Finn. "Hey keep it down," Finn pleaded. "By the way we''re going to need access codes to these cells if we''re going to free everyone." "I don''t need codes," said Ben. He reached out with his hand towards the panel of buttons beside the cell door. He seemed to be straining from the effort of using the Force. "You said the most you could do was lift a rock," said Finn anxiously. Ben kept going though and he seemed more relaxed now. To Finn''s amazement the cell door opened with a whoosh. "Rey!" Ben exclaimed, rushing in. Finn stood at the door to keep watch. "Ben?" Rey said weakly as Ben helped her off the floor. "I was just dreaming. I saw you running through this base. It all seemed so real..." "It was," said Ben. "You were reaching out with your feelings subconsciously. The Force is strong with you Rey. Your connection sparked something in me as well. I''m getting you out of here." "Great," said Finn. "But how do we everyone out without looking awfully suspicious?" "We can''t leave them," Rey muttered as she began to stand on her own. "Oh Ben, there was so much pain. I thought I''d never see you or the outside world again." "it''s ok now," said Ben gently, brushing back her hair. "I''m here now." Finn quickly dragged the unconscious purge trooper and prison guard into the cell. "Here put on the purge troopers armor," said Ben. "No one''s going to dare question a purge trooper." "We''ll have to come back for the children Rey," said Ben. "We can''t risk it, not when we''ve come this far." "Alright," said Rey, slipping into the purge troopers clothes. "Lead the way then." Suddenly the light dimmed and the red alert alarm went off all around the base. Finn comm came to life and the voice of Han Solo could be heard through it. "Finn are you there?" Finn quickly grabbed his comm and spoke into it. "Yes sir I''m here we got Rey." "Great," said Han. "We managed to plant charges on the base''s shield generators. We have about half an hour until the fleet arrives. With the shield''s down now they will be exposed to our capital ships. Meet us back at the hanger." "You got it sir," said Finn. At the base''s command center the officers had their hands full trying to maintain order. "They disabled nearly a third of our defense turrets," said one of the lieutenants to General Hux. "Get a repair crew over to the generators immediately," said Hux. "Bringing the shield back online is our top priority." Kylo Ren stopped observing the fires far below from the window and turned towards the door. "Where are you going?" Hux asked. He said nothing and continued on his way. By the time the strike team had gotten back to the Falcon the republic ships Finn could see republic ships coming out of hyperspace above. Dozen''s of light fighter craft descended on the base, meeting the First Order''s TIE fighters in aerial combat. An X-wing landed right beside the Falcon. "For you sir!" the pilot of the x-wing said to Ben, leaping out of the cockpit. A republic transport landed just as Ben situated himself in the cockpit of the x-wing. "Your going to fight?" said Rey, pushing aside the medics trying to treat her. Ben smiled as the cockpit canopy lowered. "I''m a pilot Rey. I fight from the skies." "We should go Rey," said Finn as Ben''s x-wing roared to life. "No I''m staying to fight," said Rey. "Kylo Ren''s going to do to those children what he did to me. I can''t just sit by. I felt their fear and mine didn''t even compare." "If that''s what you want we won''t try and stop you," said Han, watching the republic troops exit the transport. "Stick with me. I''ll be leading the ground forces back into the base. Could be some good intel we can obtain. Break those kids out while we''re at it." Rey hugged him. "Thank you, for understanding." Han let out a indistinguishable grumble followed by a: Alright alright there there." "We just broke you out too," Finn mumbled to himself. "Ben''s going to kill me if you get hurt." Chapter 11: Battle in the Skies "All wings do you copy?" said Ben over the comms as his x-wing climbed. "We copy you red leader," said gold leader. "It''s good to have you back Solo," said blue leader. "Blue squadron cover the ground troops," said Ben. "A-wings take out those surface cannons for the bombers. Red and gold on me. We''ll provide support as needed. "Solid copy on all," came the collective reply. Ben accelerated to attack speed and rejoined his comrades in the air. The goal of this operation wasn''t to wipe out the base completely but to cripple its operational effectiveness and buy enough time for the ground forces to extract the prisoners. With Kylo Ren''s prizes here they First Order would spare no resources getting reinforcements to Ilum. This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report. As the republics ground forces advanced on the main structures of the base, walkers began to move out to intercept them, halting the advance. Ben swooped down on his x-wing and took one out with a photon torpedo. A Corellian corvette was called in to support the advance, raining down fire on the First Order vehicles pouring out of the base to meet the republics troops in battle. "Sir we have star destroyers coming out from underground hangers," came a report from the comms. "Divert bombers and boarding craft to those star destroyers," said Ben. "They will wipe out our fighters and ground forces. We can''t let them join the fight." As transports carrying troops headed towards the ascending star destroyers behind the snowy mountain the base was built into, Ben led a squadron of x-wings to cover them from TIE fighters. "There''s a lot more of them than we thought Solo," said gold leader. "We might lose ground in the long run." "We don''t need to win we just need to buy time for them down below," said Ben. "Focus on doing as much damage to the base or those star destroyers as you can. The Force is with us all!" Cheers came over the comms and Ben smiled as he dived to make another attack run on First Order forces on the ground. Chapter 12: Han Solo Finn stuck with General Solo as they cut through way through wave after wave of stromtroopers, caught off guard by the sudden attack on their base. Finn felt conflicted blasting at his former comrades. But he had to harden his resolve. They had made their choice and he had made his. Rey stayed in the rear. She was quite handy with a blaster for a civilian, likely gained her prowess by practicing on small game on Jakku. They eventually got back to the cell block where the children were being kept. "Blast open the cell doors," Han commanded. The republic troopers with them quickly started working on the first cell door. Finn watched from behind as they broke in and checked the young girl slumped on the floor. As the trooper flipped her over Finn saw that her entire chest had been wired with explosives. "NO!" Finn cried. The entire cell was consumed by an explosion. Finn was blasted off his feet as were several troopers around him. All the cells opened as once and out rushed stormtroopers. "It''s a trap!" Finn yelled. Han turned and began gunning down the stromtroopers closest to Finn. Though initially taken by surprise their own forces managed to push the ambushing soldiers back down the hallway. "Forward!" Han yelled. "Find any surviving children." "They might have been moved!" said Finn. "They knew we were coming back for them." "Look out!" a trooper behind them yelled. Finn turned in time to see a purge trooper swinging at their soldiers, knocking many of them senseless. Before Han could raise his blaster at the man a swing from the electrostaff knocked him aside. With a cry Rey rushed out of the smoke and engaged the purge trooper with his own electrostaff. With the two of them moving around so quickly, Finn couldn''t get a clear shot. If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. "Where did you move the children?" Rey demanded, locking weapons with the purge trooper. "They are not yours to take," he said coldly. As Finn helped Han up he noticed movement behind him. Another purge trooper had emerged from one of the cells. He was gripping a young boy by the shoulder. "Surrender or he dies," said the purge trooper. "NO!" Rey screamed and thrust out her arm. Finn and Han were knocked down swiftly and the purge trooper with the children flew back, as did his hostage. As Finn sat back up with a groan, he saw that Rey has pressing her opponent hard with strikes and jabs quick as lightning. Finally knocking the weapon from his hand Rey then followed up with a powerful overhead strike that knocked out the purge trooper and denting in his helmet. Finn turned his attention to the young boy, picking him up in his arms. As the purge trooper who was holding him hostage began to rise, Han blasted him in the chest. "Nice shot," said Finn. "Let''s move," said Han. "There''s nothing more we can do here. The cells are empty." They ran back the way they came. Han called for Chewie to bring the Falcon over to the hanger for a quick pick up. "Almost there!" Finn yelled as they ran. Suddenly a pain shot through his head and he dropped, as did the rest of the group with him. Finn clutched his head which felt like it was being crushed under pressure from all sides. "You will never leave this place," came a chilling voice. "Kylo Ren," Finn whispered, turning around. The sith warrior stood behind them with his hand outstretched. Finn glanced down at the boy he was holding. "Your wrong about that. You''ll never see him again after today!" "You cannot deny the will of the force," said Kylo. With a cry Han rose to his feet and grappled with the sith warrior. Both were fighting for control over the lightsaber. "Run!" Han roared. Rey however raised her electrostaff instead. More troops could be seen far behind Kylo movign towards them. "Rey we have to go!" said Finn. Rey glanced to Han and then back to Finn, the conflict was tearing her apart, he could see it in every inch of her face. "Go," said Han gently. "It''s like he said. The Force wills as it wills." Han headbutted Kylo, who staggered back. Han drew his pistol but Kylo recovered quickly and cut the weapon from his hand before jamming the lightsaber blade into Han''s abdomen. "NO!" Rey screamed. Finn pulled her away by the hand and threw a thermal detonator at Kylo who froze in midair. As Finn got Rey and the boy away from the sith warrior he shot the thermal detonator which exploded, putting smoke and fire between them and their pursuers. Finn fought back the first tears shed in a long while. It seemed a little bit of him had died with Han Solo, leader and hero of The Republic. The Smuggler, but a good man. Chapter 13: And Light to Meet It The stormtroopers closing in on Finn and Rey forced Finn to take them all on a detour through the base. A path that led out into the forest outside. "We can find cover out there," said Finn, panting. At last they came to the exit and rushed through. The cold hit Finn hard but he pressed onward. He could hear the battle raging in the distance, see x-wings engaging in dogfights wit the First order''s own ships. "Chewie can you hear me?" said Rey, speaking into her comm device. "Chewie I''m so sorry. General Solo didn''t make it. If you have our location then please come get us. It''s just Finn and me left." Finn''s heart trembled at the sound of Rey''s voice breaking with sorrow. He remembered his first taste of battle. But he knew it could not compare to what Rey was experiencing. A girl who had not been conditioned from birth to face death and to bring it. Up ahead there was movement. Finn quickly ducked behind a tree with Rey and set down the boy he was carrying. It was a First Order transport speeder. When Finn saw who it dropped off he went rigid with fear. Kylo Ren stepped off with two purge troopers and a squad of soldiers. One was armed with a blaster rifle and the other twin shock batons. "Take the boy and run Rey," said Finn. "I''ll hold them off." "No I''m not leaving you," said Rey firmly. Finn sighed. "We can''t take them all." "Let me take this one," said Rey looking at him intensely in the eyes. "Trust me." Before Finn could reply Rey stepped out from behind the tree and activated her electrostaff. Kylo Ren signaled for his men to halt. He approached Rey alone. "You feel hatred. Hatred over the death of Han Solo. It was the will of the force." "The dark side," said Rey bitterly. "And so then with the will of the light I will strike you down." Kylo Ren exhaled deeply. "And with that your destiny will be fulfilled." The sith warrior shot out his hand and Rey ducked. But the force was not directed at her. The tree Finn was standing behind shattered and he was knocked to the side, slamming into the snow. The young boy fell from his hands. "Finn!" Rey screamed. He did not move. Kylo Ren ignited his lightsaber. Rey turned back to him and with a cry, charged. Her first swing was dodged as was her next two. "No training," said Kylo Ren steadily. "Competent nonetheless." Rey let loose a fury of strikes with her electrostaff. Despite her pouring in all her will into the fight, channeling all her emotions and calling desperately upon the Force, she knew she was out of her depth. The sith warrior''s prowess completely eclipsed her own. He was a true master of the art. "The Force guides your movements," said Kylo, deflecting another one of her blows with a casual flick of his saber. "Such talent must be nurtured...in the right hands. Had any other force sensitive person your age come against me armed, they would not have lasted half as long as you have." Rey still knew she was losing the fight. Perhaps she had lost before it even began. And she was alone. Han Solo was dead, the republic forces occupied, and Finn lay behind her in the snow with the boy they rescued. She didn''t even know if they were still alive. Her concentration was all over the place. She couldn''t focus enough to feel for their life force. "Someone help me," she thought, reaching out across the planet with her feelings. You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story. Kylo Ren smashed the staff from her weakened grasp. Weaponless, Rey fell to her knees. "And now your journey with me begins," said Kylo Ren, reaching out to grab her. The purge troopers behind him gave a yelp and with a bang the speeder they arrived in was flung to the side, slamming into a tree. Rey noticed a woman coming up from behind Kylo Ren. She was gripping a blue lightsaber and moved like a blur, weaving between the First Order soldiers and cutting them down. In a flash it was over. Kylo Ren''s men lay still in the snow and the petite General Leia Organa Skywalker Solo stood over them, lightsaber at the ready. Her look of fury directed towards Kylo Ren. "Long have I trained for this moment," said Kylo Ren, his attention diverted towards General Organa. "A Jedi worthy of my blade." He flourished his lightsaber and took a step towards her. "And you are a Jedi. Your husband is dead. You have learned to control your hatred. "Han is ten times the man you are," said Leia. "He is still with me." Without another word Kylo advanced on Leia as Rey watched helpless. Seizing her chance she rushed to Finn''s side. He was still alive, she could feel his pulse and breathing. She couldn''t carry both the child and Finn out of the cold forest alone though. "Chewie where are you?" said Rey into the comm device. There was no reply and so she rested Finn''s head in her lap and watched on as the duel between the elderly general and Kylo Ren raged. Like the sith warrior, Leia was a master with the lightsaber. Even for a woman of her age and size, she moved with such grace. The first female Jedi to be raised since the purge long ago. The heiress to the Skywalker legacy gave the sith warrior the challenge he sought and more. They fought like no others could fight. Two warriors guided and aided by the Force complemented by years of training and accumulated knowledge. Even from a distance Rey could feel the dark side surging in Kylo Ren as he attempted to attack the general with the Force. Leia''s own force power met his midway and the mix of snow and dirt from the ground exploded all around them. "By the grace of the Force I was not destined to meet you in combat in your younger years," said Kylo. "I would be dead on the cold ground beneath us had it been so." "A pity that it wasn''t so," said Leia right before she re-engaged him. Their sabers moved with such speed that it was impossible to follow their technique with an untrained eye. A brilliant yet deadly light show that held Rey on edge. General Organa was fighting her hardest, there was no doubt about that yet as they fought on Rey began to realize she could not overcome the sith warrior. They were just too evenly matched. Kylo Ren broke off and took two steps back. "You wish to save the girl, the boy, and her friend the traitor. But despite setting aside your hatred you know that if you let me walk away, you will never be the one to make me answer for Han Solo''s death." "The Jedi will not be manipulated," said Leia firmly. "The words of the sith are like poison to the galaxy." "The First Order with its flagship is on its way to reinforce this very base," Kylo continued. "And you must decide. I feel the conflict within you. If you cannot make the choice then I will make it for you." To Rey''s surprise, Kylo Ren deactivated his lightsaber and began to run in the other direction, using the Force to fling snow at General Organa, temporarily distracting her. Rey felt herself fly forward through the air toward Kylo Ren, Finn, and the young boy both flying at her side. "No!" General Organa cried. Rey stopped midair as did her unconscious companions. Kylo Ren was fighting Leia for possession of the three of them while also holding back Leia''s force powers that tried to stop him from getting away. Rey felt like the skin from her face was being pulled apart. "You will kill them if you continue this struggle," said Kylo Ren. Rey could feel Leia''s desperation and so she reached out with her feelings. "You are not alone here general." Pulling herself together, Rey let loose the force at Kylo Ren, breaking his hold on them while also pushing her companions away. They fell through the air, Leia using the force to stop them for a brief moment just before they hit the ground. "You won''t take any more of us!" Rey screamed. Using the force to pull her staff towards her she charged at Kylo Ren one more time. Kylo Ren blocked her first two strikes then disarmed her with ease. Gathering her resolve and fury she unleashed the Force on her opponent just as the jagged energy blade of the lightsaber arced up towards her face. Hot searing pain took her and she fell back just as Kylo himself was blown away. Rey could not move and she knew in that moment that for her, the fight was over for good. "Hold on Rey," said General Organa, kneeling beside her. Kylo Ren appeared over a rise in the snow before the two of them. Before he could act though blaster bolts bombarded them, forcing him to deflect. The angry cry of a wookie filled Rey''s ears. After Kylo Ren had been driven back out of sight, Rey found herself being surrounded by republic troopers. "I''m going with Chewie back to the Falcon," said General Organa. "You boys take her." "We''ll begin treating her immediately," said one of the troopers. Rey hadn''t noticed it a moment before but something was off with her vision. She felt nothing but pain on the left side of her head. The nauseating smell of burning flesh was overwhelming. "My eyes...." Rey stammered, as she was put on a stretcher. "Give her a sedative before the shock wears off," said a trooper. Rey barely felt the pinch of the needle right before they injected something into her. The forest around her began to fade away. "The Force is with you Rey," came the distant voice of General Organa in her head. Darkness took her. Chapter 14: Lament For A Legend All feelings of celebration quickly died down throughout the republic fleet when the news of Han''s death was broken out to them. Ben had felt his passing in the force but didn''t know it, passing it off as spontaneous moment of weakness. Ben sat by Rey''s bedside on board the medical frigate staring at a wall, letting unpleasant thoughts in. There was significant scarring to Rey''s face as Kylo Ren''s saber had cut into into it and destroyed her left her. The medical droids were able to reconstruct most of the damaged areas but the eye was lost forever. "She was very brave," his mother had said to him. "Her spirit rivals mine and your uncle''s." "Only a few days ago she was just a simple scavenger," Ben had replied. "It was like she was meant for the cause." Still, Ben was full of regret for dragging Rey into it all. "Ben?" Rey asked, weakly. Ben shot out of his seat. "Don''t move your still recovering. "My face feels like brittle clay," said Rey. Ben swallowed hard. "The medical droids did the best they could but..." Rey gently touched the bandages that covered her left eye. "I see." "We dealt a heavy blow to the First Order today," said Ben. "The fleet is currently holding position but will return to Coruscant soon. That''s not where we''re going though. I''m taking you to see my uncle, Luke." Rey sat up in her bed. "Your taking me to see Luke Skywalker?!" Ben nodded. "But first there is something I need to see to."Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. A tear went down Ben''s cheek and he looked down. "I''m sorry Ben," said Rey. "Your father''s death is my fault. If I hadn''t gotten myself caught..." "We still would have went after the younglings," said Ben wiping his eyes. "I wanted to give this back to you by the way. You may not be a Jedi but the saber did call to you." Ben took the old lightsaber out of his pack and handed it to Rey. "I''ll help you fix it when we go to Dantooine," said Ben. Rey frowned at him while handling the lightsaber. "What''s on Dantooine?" Ben smiled. "Only the temple of the New Jedi Order. We''ll go after Corellia. The birthplace of my father." As Kylo Ren''s star destroyer sped through hyperspace, he made contact with his master, Snoke. "The seed of the dark side is planted," said Kylo to his master''s hologram. "But forgive me. I was unable to bring the girl herself." "It is of little consequence," said Snoke calmly. "You have brought the presence of the dark side to Skywalker''s doorstep. You have done well already to bring so many younglings. It is time for you to led the Knight of Ren once more." From behind Snoke''s hologram materialized six figures in robes and helmets similar to Kylo''s in design. "They will rejoin you on Mustafar." With that Snoke and the Knights of Ren''s holograms faded away. Han Solo''s cremation ceremony was held at one of the largest cities on Corellia. It was the safest choice given that the former smuggler spent much of his life moving around the galaxy. Thousands of republic officials and freedom fighters attended and a squadron of x-wings flew over the funeral procession as a demonstration of respect for the legendary starpilot. Chewbacca was named the new captain of the Millennium Falcon. There was no question about it. As Ben watched the body of his father burn in the town square his mother put a gentle hand on his shoulder. "He was so proud of what you''ve become," said Leia. "Yeah I know," said Ben stiffly. Leia smiled warmly at him. "You felt it?" "No," said Ben with half a laugh. "He told me before." They continued observing the cremation process. "I made a choice son," said Leia quietly. "It was not my destiny to defeat Kylo Ren." "I know you did what the Force guided you to do," said Ben. "Kylo is just another one of Snoke''s pawns. Like Vader before him his mind was filled with delusions of grandeur regarding the sith. Snoke is the real enemy." Leia nodded. "Then we must be patient in drawing him out. I have a feeling he still is holding his best cards close to the chest." Ben''s eyes followed the smoke up into the starry night sky of Corellia. He could almost picture his father teasing him from the void beyond this world. Chapter 15 (End): The Jedi The Falcon entered the Dantooine skies. Like Takodana it was lush and green though not nearly as wet with its bodies of water far lesser in number. "Behold the Jedi temple of Dantooine," said Ben to Rey as Chewie guided their ship towards their destination. A large seemingly derelict stone structure loomed in the distance overlooking a vast courtyard overgrown with vegetation. Rey could hardly contain herself as the Falcon landed near the temple. As Rey, Ben, and Chewie all exited the Falcon they were greeted by approaching people in robes. The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation. "Welcome back Ben Solo," said the young female Twi''lek at the lead. "And welcome to you Rey, I am Mara Leneer, Jedi knight." Rey bowed uncertainly. "It was by the will of the Force that you came to us," said Mara. "Now come, Master Skywalker will be finishing his meditation session soon." As the group of whom Rey assumed were all Jedi turned towards the temple, she suddenly became aware of how nervous she was. "Do not be afraid Rey," said a charming voice that echoed in her mind. "Like my son the Force is strong with you. It always will be." Rey smiled to herself and whispered. "Thank you." Taking a deep breath she began walking forward, following the Jedi with her friends Ben and Chewie close behind. Re-write for the next installment in the trilogy coming soon! P.S.
