《Adventures of Chaorus》 CH 1: Starting out The first thing I noticed that clued me in to this not being a normal day was waking up in the middle of a forest with odd skinless fruits. The second and more alarming part was that I was small, and my hands were blue. Looking around and not seeing any immediate dangers, I am able to take stock of my situation. I am in the body of a chao, a creature that appears in a few sonic shows and games. Plus side is that in the games chao can reincarnate endlessly as long as they die happy at the age of 5, although whether that is 5 years or 5 of some other method of timekeeping was never shown so it could be as little as 5 days or 5 weeks. Downside is that chao are mostly weak and boring, I may have once spent the time in Sonic Adventure 2 in order to breed a chao with all S rank stats and draised them all to 99¡.. but even then the flight wasn¡¯t enough to clear an entire jewel race and the run speed was nowhere near the playable characters. I happen to have a convenient menu show up when I think of them, a shame it doesn¡¯t come with op gamer exploits, a minimap, quests, or even a basic description of my location, but at least it gives me some information to work off of. This suggests I am similar to the chao from the games, or that the anime chao have gamelike elements, or maybe I am unique and the local chao don¡¯t have this, and actually I don¡¯t have enough information to be drawing solid conclusions at this point. Chao evolve once before they die/reincarnate which increases the rank of 1 of their stats, reincarnating removes all levels of trained stats, but does keep the same rank at time of death. To raise every stat to S rank would take 19 evolutions and deaths assuming I operate by the game logic. I stop my ruminations for a bit to eat from one of the nearby fruits on the ground (they look like the ones from the standard chao garden). The forest seems peaceful, some crazy stuff can happen in a sonic world, and I could be in an unkown world with unkown risks. The fruit is pretty bland, it isn¡¯t juicy but I also don¡¯t feel thirsty, do I need water to survive? Chao in the games couldn¡¯t actually starve even if not feeding them made them unhappy, but I am not gonna test that theory as being wrong would kill me, same with the theory that I reincarnate if I die before reaching age 5. I crawl around the woods a bit (I tried standing up but my baby chao legs are too weak), the prevalence of fruit bearing trees makes me not bother carrying extra food around (not that I could carry it anyways, stuff is heavy). And eventually, I spot another chao. Ch2: Starting off So Chaoroy over here doesn¡¯t talk.

Not that I can throw shade, my attempts to converse also came out as mostly incoherent babble, I really should have practiced speaking before searching for others. Chaoroy seems nice enough though, he/she/genderless child/it is not aggressive and that fact that I can see their menu hopefully means that I have some hidden observe skill that I can level up (although nothing happened when I tried to pull up menus for the trees and rocks) but judging by the way it crawls around the hidden stats are not because I am massively outclassed. By the time I babble enough to say hello all I get in response is a happy face followed by more babbling. Seeing as communication will be more of a long term goal, I start gathering sticks to cobble together a crude shelter. --------------------------------------------Time Skip------------------------------------------------------If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. I sleep in a leaf bed with a basic grass weave tarp overhead, but it never rains, there is no wildlife, and Chaoroy sleeps out in the open on the ground despite me making a shelter for it and gesturing that the second shelter is theirs. A couple of other chao have wandered along, they also had ?? for ages and stats, but a few of them had evolved. Mostly it is boring though, I train, I eat, I play tag (which took SO long to teach the other chao of the concept) I sleep. Conversation is mostly gesturing with some basic words now in the mix (every nearby chao now knows the words for play, rest, me, and you) and a few have taken an interest in wrestling with me once I conveyed the concept (I did not want to start with sparring until we have better communication to avoid hurt feelings and accidents, hurt feelings are a literal matter of life and death for chao and I still haven¡¯t ruled out that there are no unseen caretakers). Speaking of life and death I have confirmed that one of the older chao reincarnated as an egg after reaching (presumably) age 5. They retained the knowledge of play, rest, me, and you so their memory seemed intact as well. They did start crawling again, so it seems that stat levels are still lost in chao reincarnation. In the games chao raised stats with animals, crayons, or skill fruit. While a few skill fruit trees are around, most of my stat gains came from exercise which does raise stats here. Skill fruit trees are rare, and exercise is mostly just so I can explore further out before I reach my reincarnation, I have travelled a quarter day walk in every direction and have only found other chao, lakes (with noting inside but seaweed), and more trees. As far as weaponry goes, I managed to break a rock on another rock, and have crafted a short spear with a stick and bark rope (it keeps falling apart and then I have to retie the rope but it looks mildly intimidating¡.. sometimes), hopefully once my power is high enough then I can break rocks with my fists and start looking for metals in one of the nearby mountains although I have yet to find a single natural cave, the lakes also have no clay so it is possible that the mountains have no ore. But it at least gives me a goal beyond stat increasing.
