《Don't Let Me Down.》


 CHAPTER 1

    Noelle POV


    "I need to get some sleep," Noelle said as she crawled to his bed. She had stayed up all night playing video games. Noelle''s parents had died in a horrible accident five years ago. She was left with no one except her best friend ~Jason.


    "I have to wake up early tomorrow for school and go to work." She mumbled in her sleep. She worked part-time at a gaming company. Since her parents'' death, she had to work to make ends meet. She was paid handsomely at her job, in return she was one of the few programmers.


    She was also a college student. and it had taken its toll on her, soshe played video games to ease up her pressure and anxiety.


    ~FLASHBACK~


    I woke up around 6:00 am and had to get ready for school. I heardsnoring and probably figured it was Maya. She doesn''t stop snoring, does she? I lazily got up and went to brush my teeth and shower, when the cold water hit m skin I tensed up but I quickly relaxed.


    "I should probably ask for a vacation from work to ease up a bit." I had been working so hard it had started to take its toll on me. I felt tired and numb most of the time but still got around with my day. And with Mikaela''s constant bantering it was way worse.


    She and Amaya were always bickering over the most trivial things. Like who was best in volleyball or whose grades were high. Mikaela was the best other and Amaya her grades. ~and yes Maya and Amaya are twins.


    I finished and got out of the shower. Maya was still asleep even though she had the same classes as I do. I quickly wore a pair of pants, some white Adidas shoes, and a black hoodie. I wasn''t the type to wear formal clothes to school. Always something baggy and comfy.


    I glanced at the time it was 6:35 am. I still had time for breakfast. I sprinted to Maya''sroom to wake her. Seeing as class started at 7:30 am. She woke up with a jolt and bolted down the hallway to shower. I went to the kitchen for some cereal. I munched on it and decided to wait for Jason, he had a different class but at the same time.This story originates from Royal Road.     I quickly texted him to see if he was still in his dorm. To cut it short he wasn''t he had already left. Which was odd because we always left to class at the same time. But luckily he made it up to me to meet after class. HOPEFULLY.


    After I finished my cereal I hurried off to class, leaving Maya behind, she leaves with Amaya anyway. They had the same class with her twin~ ironic. I reached class early, I always wanted to have some quiet time before the professor came in. I went to my desk to have some sleep before class started.


    "Noelle, Noelle." I woke up to the sound of (Y/N)." Classes are about to start, and you know how he is." You said. "Oh yeah, thanks for waking me up," I said. "No problem my pleasure." (y/n) said.


    Just then the professor came in. I thanked my heavens Y/N woke me up just in time, or else my ears would''ve been blasted off the minute he started one of his constant lectures.


    Classes passed by as usual and I went to join Maya, Amaya, and Mikaela for lunch. Hopefully, Jason would be there. I went to the cafeteria and heard an annoyingly familiar voice. "HEY, Noelle over here." I walked over to where they were gathered and took a seat.


    "So what''s up," Amaya asked nonchalantly. "Oh nothing much just caught up with work and school you know the usual," I said in a monotonous tone.


    "Let''s eat I''M FAMISHED," Mikaela said, all of us surprisingly stared at her. "When did you learn good grammar," Amaya asked breaking the silence.


    "You either use slang or your grammar is just awful sometimes," Maya said trying not to laugh over the times Mikaela tried to speak good grammar and failed miserably.


    "I''m starting to speak good grammar because I have a presentation in front of the whole class due in the next two weeks, so I got to keep practicing to avoid embarrassing myself.


    "But Mikaela you usually don''t care about what other people think about you you''re carefree," I said stating what all of us were trying to say.


    "Yeah but the professor is going to grade me based on how I present the work and how I say it, that''s why," Mikaela said sighing


    "Enough with the chit-chat let''s eat like I said I''m famished," Mikaela said.


    We all started to eat our food in silence and Mikaela was joking around with some stuff. But what bothered me was that Jason never came.


    ~Timeskip to Noelle''s workplace~


    The day passed by as usual and it was time for me to go to work. Work started at 6:30 pm. So I grabbed dinner and went straight to work. It was 5:33 pm and I reached workaround 5:40 pm. When I reached work, I greeted my co-workers and went straight to my desk.


    My boss had a new game idea so we started programming it, and I gotta admit it was pretty cool. I finished around 10:00 pm and went straight to my dorm. When I reached my dorm the first thing that greeted me was Maya''s loud snoring and the TV still on.


    I decided to clean the kitchen and living space since Maya had completely wrecked the place there were dishes in the sink and her papers scattered all over the table, it took me no longer than 30 minutes to finish because I had gotten used to Maya''s messy behavior.


    I went straight to the bathroom brushed my teeth and freshened up a bit. After my shower, I decided to test out our new game, and it was pretty good if I do say so myself.


    I then drifted off to sleep with Jason hovering over my thoughts.

 Chapter 2

    Noelle had woken up with a terrible headache probably because she stayed up all night. Thankfully she didn''t have classes. It was a Sunday. She decided to stay in since she also didn''t have to go to work that day.


    ~Time skip~


    She slept all day to ease up on her headache, when she checked up on her phone she saw twenty messages and fifteen missed calls from Amaya, Maya, Mikaela, Liam, and Jason. "wow, I didn''t think people cared about me especially the one person who''s been avoiding me." She said referring to her friend, three best friends, and childhood friend Jason.


    Maya asked her if she was okay, and that if she needed anything she would be with her boyfriend, Liam.


    Liam texted her asking if she was okay and confirming that he was with Maya and told her to text her if she saw the text.


    Amaya told her she was with Mikaela and they were currently on a project work together and she was worried about her so if she got the text she should text her.


    Mikaela told her to get well soon if she was sick that is, and that she was with Amaya and they were worried, so if she saw the text she should text them back because they tried calling her but her phone was off.


    Jason told her she forgot to meet up with her at lunch and was very worried about her, he was currently outside campus he could not come to check up on her and that if she saw the text she should send her a message.


    After that Noelle lazily got up and went to the kitchen to find something to eat, her headache had subsided a little but it still hurt. She warmed up some leftover soup that was from the last time Maya had gotten sick, and that wasn''t long ago.


    She happily ate it seeing as she hadn''t eaten anything all day. She finished her soup and did the dishes, after that she went to her room to inform her friends about her current condition.

    She texted them in their group chat informed them that she was alright and that it was slightly better after her long nap.


    They all reached an agreement to come to Noelle and Maya''s dorm to make her feel better, and cook up something for her under the suspicion that she hadn''t eaten anything decent except for soup and water. And technically they were right. Jason couldn''t make it because he was currently off-campus.


    Noelle called Jason and informed him about her current condition, she told him was very concerned about her health and that Noelle should take proper care of herself, he couldn''t come because he was out with a friend and that as soon as he had time he could come and take care of her.


    Not long after Maya and the squad came. They went upstairs only to find Noelle engrossed in her game so much that she didn''t even hear her coming in. She had papers scattered everywhere and her room a huge mess.


    "Can she even see us?" Amaya said in a skeptical voice. "I don''t think she can I mean we''re standing just a few meters away from her and talking," Liam said. "Noelle at least notice us, we came all the way here, and this the treatment you give us," Mikaela said pouting.


    Noelle tilted her head in their direction only to find an annoyed bunch of people glaring at her. "Oh sorry I heard you come in but I didn''t bother to pay attention, and sorry about the current condition of my workspace," Noelle said trying to annoy them further, which worked in a way.


    "Sassy as ever, even though your sick you never cease to amaze me, Noelle," Amaya said nonchalantly. "Anyway let''s get this place cleaned up or else I might die in here, with no one noticing," Mikaela said twitching her nose a bit. And technically she wasn''t wrong. "Mikaela your room is way worse than Noelle''s so stop talking," Maya said scrunching her face as she remembered the last time she went into Mikaela''s room.


    Liam grabbed the necessary equipment for cleaning up Noelle''s room. Noelle was pushed out of her room by Maya to go continue her game, while they clean up her room.


    Maya took care of placing everything where it belonged. Liam swept and mopped the room. Amaya took care of the garbage and Mikaela cleaned Noelle''s gaming station. Overall it took them less than an hour to get the place cleaned up. Meanwhile, Noelle was in the living area still engrossed in the game she was playing earlier. ''''I''m one lucky girl to have such good friends.'''' She thought


    After their whole cleaning session Liam, Mikaela, Maya, and Amaya came downstairs to prepare something to eat and then watching a movie with Noelle. They all agreed to cook some pasta and meatballs, luckily Noelle and Maya had the right ingredients, so everyone took one job, and before they knew it the food was ready."


    "Noelle food''s ready," Amaya called out to her from the kitchen. They set up the dining room which wasn''t far from the kitchen and they all ate their food in silence. In an attempt to break the silence Mikaela got everyone talking about their personal lives, studies, and works.


    Liam was doing well in class and was planning to get a job, Maya and Mikaela were joining the volleyball club and their grades were average, Amaya was as always the top of the class and Noelle told her friends about the new game they were launching, and her grades were okay.


    hen they finished their food, Noelle decided to do the dishes while they pick out a movie for them to watch, to show her gratitude towards them. They decided to watch a Horror movie which everyone surprisingly agreed to. They turned off all the lights and huddled together on the couch.

 Chapter 3

    So far everyone was enjoying the movie, Once in a while, Maya or Mikaela would let out a shriek at a jump scare. Maya had Liam to hold her hands, and Mikaela would clutch on to Amaya who was good at watching horror movies despite her protests.


    "Mikaela please let go of me you agreed to watch this movie, and now thirty minutes later you''re clutching me. I can barely breathe." Amaya said gasping for breath. "Oh shut it, Amaya, you know I don''t watch scary movies, I just went along with it because everyone wanted to watch a scary movie," Mikaela said pouting. "Ok but if you kill me by clutching on me too hard, my ghost will forever hunt you to eternity," Amaya said, stretching the last part a bit. "OK," Mikaela said obviously scared.


    Mikaela had a terrible past with horror movies or scary things, And Amaya knew that using it to her advantage. "When did you start watching horror movies, I thought you hated it," Noelle asked. "Seriously Noelle you gotta pay more attention to your surroundings, it''s not that long ago she started liking horror movies," Maya said amazed at Noelle''s obliviousness.


    "My friend recommended a horror movie to me, I watched it and surprisingly I like it. I guess the saying that goes ''To grow as a person, you must open yourself to new experiences is true." Amaya said in a monotonous tone. "And who brought that saying to life," Mikaela said. "I don''t know it just came to the top of my head," Amaya said.


    "Okay then I might add that to my presentation," Mikaela added. "Can''t you all be quiet!! remember we''re watching a movie here." Liam finally snapped. He had been quiet the whole time listening to them rambling on and on, but he had had enough. "Geez, Liam we were just talking," Mikaela said slightly annoyed.


    "Noelle won''t you talk, all you''ve done is keep quiet," Amaya said. "No I bet she won''t all she thinks about is gaming," Mikaela said. "Well her dream is to become a gamer, so it isn''t out of the ordinary," Amaya said. "Ok let''s focus on the movie, not me." They continued the movie with no further distractions and in no time at all, they were done.


    They decided to watch a few more movies after that that wasn''t horror. After 2-3hours they were done watching movies and decided to play with Noelle. They went upstairs to Noelle''s room which they cleaned. "Woah, you guys did a very great job with my room. Thanks, I appreciate it." Noelle said with a smile on her face.


    "No problem Noelle we''re your friends you can always count on us. To clean your room." Mikaela said. "Ok, I will make sure my room is extra messy next time," Noelle said chuckling. "Speak for yourself Mikaela I''m not doing this again, It drained the life out of me to clean Noelle''s pigsty of a room," Amaya said annoyed. "Me too," Maya said backing up Amaya. "Me three.     "Ok, ok no need to rub it in," Noelle said pouting. "Anyway let''s get playing so I can crush you. As always." Noelle said with a smirk on her face. "I will have you know I''ve been practicing since the last time you beat me," Liam said proudly. "Ok, we''ll see about that," Noelle said.


    They all played, and as Liam said he had really improved but he was no match for Noelle, obviously. Amaya and Maya competed, surprisingly Amaya won. Liam and Mikaela played, Mikaela lost and that meant Liam was to face off against Noelle, he was good but not good enough to beat Noelle. Eventually, they all got tired, but because they didn''t want to leave they stayed a little longer.


    "Hey has anyone seen Jason lately," Maya asked out of the blue. "Why ask he lives his own life," Amaya said. "I asked because someone would think he''ll be here if Noelle is sick, seeing as he is her childhood friend." Maya retorted. "Yeah speaking of which I haven''t seen him lately," Mikaela said sarcastically. "Yeah even I haven''t seen him and we''re both in the same class. It''s like he vanished from the face of the earth." Liam said.


    "Noelle have you seen or heard from him lately," Amaya asked. "Yeah, he texted me while I was asleep asking about my health, as It was odd to see me offline. So when I woke up and started texting you all I called him telling him about my current condition. He told me that he was not on campus because he was out with a friend." Noelle said.


    ~FLASHBACK~


    I was in 4th grade at the time. School had just ended and I was on my home, I had no friends or anything of that sort so right after school I''d go straight home and play games. I was known as the quiet/shy girl. It never really bothered me because having fake friends is such a drag. I was halfway to my house because the school wasn''t very far from my house so I walked every day. When a group of people from my class showed up out of nowhere.


    "Hey, Noelle wanna be friends." The leader of the group said. "No thank you I have to go now," I said in hopes that I''d be able to leave. But she pulled me back by my hair.


    Olivia was the most beautiful girl in my class and almost all my classmates fawned over her. Her father was the CEO of a very successful business, so she always thought high and mighty of herself. But in intelligence, she wasn''t so good. All her friends are either attracted to her or her money and in all honesty, she didn''t care as long as they helped her pass her exams, they were considered her friends.


    I wasn''t a fan of hers and nor did I do her any wrong, so I wonder why she chose me to pick on today. Her friends started beating me up at her command and I was too weak to defend myself. Blood started running down my nose and they didn''t bother to stop beating me until he came.


    "Olivia why are you beating her, from what I can tell she hasn''t done you wrong unless I''m wrong." The boy said. "And what do you care is she your sister or something," Olivia said sarcastically. "No she''s not anything of that sort, but I have enough common sense to make me stand up for her when she hasn''t offended you and you''re beating her up."


    "Jason you better mind you''re own business or els-." Olivia was cut off by the boy. "Or else what you''ll tell your dad. Keep in mind that your father and mine are friends and he doesn''t like you abusing his name and status for your own gain, so if I report to him about your behavior, he''ll be sure to punish you. So if I were you I''d think twice before I continued." The mysterious boy said.


    "You may have won this time Jason, but I''ll get back at you someday," Olivia said walking away with her friends behind her back.


    I was still on the floor when the boy offered me his hand. "We''ll have to get that treated soon." He said referring to my bruises. I took his hand. "Th-Thank you no one has stood up for me like that before," I said stuttering a bit.


    "My name is Jason. Jason White, nice to meet you umm please may I know your name." He asked. "No-Noelle Silver," I told him.
