Uninvited guests
After they arrived at the hospital, Zane had separated from the dark elf and went looking for Melissa. Despite the state of this hospital, they still provided proper care to patients. There was still the matter of the tracking incident, but that was a matter he didn¡¯t want to get involved with.
¡°Are you subject Z?¡±
Zane glanced behind him to find a woman with short black hair and eyes. She was wearing a business suit with the logo of the New Earth government on her left shoulder. On the opposite shoulder, she had the logo of the Albertian faction.
¡°Who¡¯s asking?¡± Zane responded.
¡°I am Katherine Bate. I am your new handler,¡± the woman introduced herself. ¡°You need to do a lot of tests for the organization. You will strictly adhere to this schedule,¡± she held up a piece of paper. ¡°If you know what¡¯s best for you, you will do as I say.¡±
Zane just gave her a flat look and walked away.
¡°Hey!¡± Katherine yelled as she went after Zane.
Zane hurried to Melissa¡¯s room and found her on her wheel chair packing what little stuff she had. ¡°You¡¯re leaving?¡± Zane asked.
¡°I am talki-¡± Zane slammed the door on Katherine.
¡°You won¡¯t be my handler anymore?¡±
Melissa turned to Zane with a somber expression on her face. ¡°I¡¯m sorry Zane, but that was decision of the higher ups. Besides, I won¡¯t be able to keep up with you like this,¡± Melissa patted what was left of her leg. ¡°Especially now that you¡¯re stronger.¡±
¡°Where will you go now?¡± Zane asked.
Melissa shrugged. ¡°I don¡¯t know.¡±
Over the past years, Zane had found out a lot about Melissa. Her family was pretty reputable, but she far down the hierarchy to matter to them, so she became a researcher for the Albertian faction. She was never close to her parents and her over a dozen siblings, so Zane knew she won¡¯t return to them.
¡°Maybe I¡¯ll get a desk job,¡± Melissa said. ¡°They offered.¡±
¡°I¡¯ll go with you. This time, I¡¯ll take care of you,¡± Zane declared.
¡°Zane...¡± Melissa had a complicated expression her face. ¡°You¡¯re young. You still have a lot of possibilities ahead of you. You have a Dragon trigger. You have a bright future.¡±
¡°What¡¯s the point when I¡¯ll lose the only family I have...¡±
Melissa flinched, not expecting Zane to be so emotional. ¡°Come here,¡± she opened her arms. They embraced each other, ignoring the loud knocking on the door.If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
¡°I apologize for ruining the moment, but you have enemies incoming,¡± Averin revealed.
Zane broke off the hug and rushed to the window. ¡°What¡¯s wrong?¡± Melissa asked in worry.
Zane saw two trucks stop in front of the hospital, and then an armed group began coming out.
The door slammed open. ¡°How dare you?!¡± Katherine yelled.
Zane turned to her. ¡°Call your superiors and tell them that the Nero family is involved in slave trafficking,¡± Zane said before jumping out the window.
¡°What?!¡± Katherine watched the scene in shock, then turned to Melissa. ¡°What¡¯s going on?¡±
------
Kayde arrived at the hospital and noticed a concerning sight. She was looking down from her stealth aircraft and saw two trucks arrive with a small army.
¡°Does everybody think they can just do anything they want in my sector?¡±
She was about to drop down when she saw someone jump out of a window and land in front of the hospital. The young man began running towards the unwelcomed guests, and gaining their attention.
They aimed their weapons at him.
Kayde thought the young man was committing suicide, but what she didn¡¯t expect was for a blue dragon to materialize from the young man. It was clear the armed group didn¡¯t expect this as well by the way they all panicked.
The blue dragon conjured a massive barrier that continued to grow as dragon charged with it. The barrier crashed into the trucks, knocking them over and pushing them along the way as the armed group ran from the sudden attack.
¡°What the fuck is going on?¡± Kayde pressed something on the control panel, then a zoomed in footage of the young man appeared on the aircraft¡¯s screen.
She didn¡¯t recognize the young man, and that was unlikely since having a Dragon trigger attracted a lot of attention. Either the young man purposely hid that he had a Dragon trigger, or he recently obtained. As Kayde was thinking about the situation, she remembered why she was here.
She rubbed her chin in thought. ¡°But the dragon heart should conjure a black dragon, not a blue one...¡±
Kayde began scratching her head in confusion. Meanwhile, backdown on the battlefield, the young man began his slaughter. He moved at an amazing speed and precision, accurately striking down his enemies with powerful strikes despite being outnumbered.
To be fair, he wasn¡¯t outgunned.
His body was obviously enhanced with mana, otherwise the speed he was showing wouldn¡¯t be possible.
¡°An augmented huh,¡± Kayde muttered as she observed the slaughter. ¡°An impressive mana control as well.¡±
Kayde had a stage six core, which was an impressive achievement for her age. And at that level, she could feel the flow of mana from others. From what she had observed, there wasn¡¯t any mana leaking from the young man, meaning his mana control method was top-tier.
Mana control methods were vital to the growth of a mage. A lacking mana control would hinder their growth since efficiently absorbing and circulating mana into their bodies were the vital part of enhancing a mana core. The less mana that leaked out the better.
Kayde noticed a group had begun casting a large-scale spell.
¡°I should probably intervene now.¡±
Her necklace glowed and Kayde phased through the floor of the aircraft. She popped out from under the aircraft and dove towards the group of mages.
A green magic circle appeared in her hands, then a condensed ball of wind began to swirl in her hands. ¡°Get lost!¡± Kayde yelled as she trusted her hand forward and unleashed a powerful tornado from her hand.
The mages screamed as they were swept by the tornado. When the tornado vanished, the mages were left groaning in pain on the ground. As she turned around to deal with the others, the young man zoomed past her, aiming to finish of the mages.
¡°Wait!¡± Kayde used wind magic to slow him down, but the young man jumped, spun midair, and kicked the magic away. ¡°The fuck?¡±
As the young man landed, he axe-kicked the head of one of the mages, crushing it in a brutal way.
That snapped Kayde out of her shock. ¡°Stop! We need to interrogate them!¡± she sent two blasts of wind to keep him away from the remaining mages.
The young man turned to her, aiming a hand at her. ¡°Trigger.¡±
A black dragon appeared.
Lurking enemy
¡°Don¡¯t leave any survivors. The less people that know of your existence, the better,¡± Averin stated as Zane punched through one of the trafficker¡¯s chests.
¡°Alright,¡± Zane responded as he shot towards the group of conjurer mages that failed to cast their magic.
The woman that had just arrived tried to stop with wind magic, but Zane easily maneuvered around it with his Draconic arts, and even kicked the magic apart. After he finished off one of the mages, the woman began using more magic to stop him.
¡°She¡¯s strong. You¡¯ll need to deal with her first,¡± Averin mentioned. ¡°You need to face her with everything you got.¡±
Zane smirked. ¡°I just need to improvise,¡± Zane aimed at the woman. ¡°Trigger!¡± The black dragon materialized.
The woman was caught by surprise, but still reacted by summoning her own dragon. A dragon with light green scales materialized and conjured a powerful gust of wind that messed with black dragon¡¯s flight, slowing it down.
The green dragon grabbed the black dragon¡¯s head and slammed it into the ground before unleashing another blast of wind that slammed into Zane, sending him tumbling across the ground.
¡°Damn...¡±
Zane groaned as he tried to get back up. ¡°You¡¯re quite the handful,¡± the woman stepped on Zane¡¯s shoulder, keeping him down on the ground. ¡°We have a lot to talk about.¡±
------
Kayde observed the young man in front of him. After the battle, Kayde had taken the young man inside the hospital and requested a room for them to have a private conversation. He had told her a lot in the short conversation that they had.
A well-known family being involved in slave trafficking.
An undiscovered dragon den.
An unofficial sector take over.
And a young dragon user with two dragons already.
¡°You¡¯re one hell of a kid,¡± Kayde commented. ¡°I¡¯ll inform the council about the Nero family. You can go now.¡±
The young man looked surprised. ¡°I can just go?¡±
Kayde shooed him away. ¡°Get lost. I have more important business to take care of now after everything you told me.¡±
¡°I see...¡± the young man got up and left the room.
Kayde watched the confusion in his face as he left the room. She didn¡¯t even ask his name and simply allowed him to leave.
Kayde couldn¡¯t help but laugh. She purposely didn¡¯t ask his name so that when the council sends someone, Kayde could deny knowing who they were talking about even if they could detect lies.
¡°Either way... I¡¯m sure I¡¯ll hear find out his name someday.¡±If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
------
¡°You lost.¡±
¡°No shit sherlock,¡± Zane grumbled.
¡°Who¡¯s sherlock?¡±
¡°I have no idea. It¡¯s an old expression here,¡± Zane replied.
After walking across the halls of the hospital, Zane slumped down against the wall. He had lost that easily despite using a Dragon manifestation. Worst of all, the woman didn¡¯t seem to care about the fact that he had a Dragon trigger and two dragons.
¡°The woman¡¯s mana core was of a significantly higher stage than yours,¡± Averin pointed out. ¡°Your chance of winning was already slim.¡±
Losing was frustrating, but Zane knew that if he followed Averin¡¯s teachings, he¡¯ll quickly catch up with the people stronger than him. ¡°What do I need to do?¡± Zane asked Averin.
¡°Rest.¡±
¡°I can¡¯t rest! I just fucking lost!¡±
¡°You¡¯ve already done a lot today. What your body needs is rest,¡± Averin stated. ¡°If you want to grow, you need to give your body the chance to rest.¡±
Zane gritted his teeth then sighed. ¡°Alright.¡±
He made his way to his hospital room. Upon arrival, he noticed nothing has changed. The place was still crowded and maybe a little more panicked.
¡°Did they see me fight?¡± Zane realized that the people in the hospital could have seen him fight against those traffickers. They still haven¡¯t noticed his arrival, and Zane wasn''t going to wait. He turned around and left the room, rushing to Melissa¡¯s room instead.
¡°Zane!¡± He turned around to see instructor Clarice. ¡°Where have you been? Did you not know what happened outside?¡±
Zane raised an eyebrow. ¡°No?¡±
¡°The hospital is in a panic. Go stay with Melissa and don¡¯t leave the room,¡± Clarice ordered before rushing away.
¡°Did they not know I fought?¡±
------
Zane never felt so hammered before. Yesterday¡¯s events finally caught up to him in the morning of the next day. He was still groggy after waking up early, but they needed to get out of this place as soon as possible.
¡°Let me get this straight... the only people that actually know I have a Dragon trigger and who I am is the bitchy elf, the new bitchy handler, and you?¡± Zane said as he grabbed Melissa¡¯s suitcase.
Melissa nodded. ¡°Even if some of the people here saw your fight yesterday, they don¡¯t who you are,¡± Melissa stated.
¡°That¡¯s great,¡± Zane opened the door to find the new bitchy handler. ¡°Great...¡± Zane said flatly.
¡°Where do you think you¡¯re going?¡± Katherine questioned with her arms crossed.
¡°None of your business,¡± Zane walked past her.
Melissa just gave Katherine an awkward smile as she passed her. To their surprised, Katherine made no move to follow them or even said anything as they were leaving.
¡°Where are we going?¡± Melissa asked as Zane began to push her wheelchair. ¡°We don¡¯t exactly have a place to go.¡±
Zane shrugged. ¡°Maybe we could go to this sector¡¯s capital?¡± Zane suggested. ¡°I¡¯m sure a lot of people would want to hire someone with a Dragon trigger.¡±
¡°You don¡¯t plan on hiding it?¡± Melissa asked in concern.
¡°Only the part where I have two dragons.¡±
¡°You have what?!¡± Melissa turned to him in shock. ¡°Did you get another Dragon trigger?¡±
Zane shook his head. ¡°It¡¯s a bit complicated, but I only have one Dragon trigger.¡±
Melissa nodded. Both of them reached the exit and saw a group of people cleaning up the mess left by yesterday¡¯s battle. Craters were being filled with sand and rubble were being loaded into trucks. The two trucks that were tossed around during the fight were being towed away in the distance.
¡°You made quite the mess,¡± Melissa commented.
Zane looked offended. ¡°It was the wind lady that did most of this, okay?¡±
Melissa chuckled. ¡°Whatever you say.¡±
------
¡°Vice chairman. We lost contact with the team sent to silence the escaped products.¡±
A man wearing a fur coat turned to his underling with a glare. He blurred and appeared in front of the underling within seconds, holding the man by the neck with his clawed hand. ¡°Do you realize the problems this could cause?¡±
¡°Yes sir. That¡¯s why we sent another team immediately, but they were immediately intercepted after entering sector 56.¡±
The vice chairman threw the man across the room, and crashing through a wall.
¡°You should really watch your temper,¡± a woman veiled in shadows appeared in the corner of the room.
¡°Adelaida,¡± the man spoke.
¡°Looks like you caused quite the mess, Alrius,¡± Adelaida commented. ¡°I wonder what the matriarch would say.¡±
Alrius glared at Adelaida. ¡°You think I¡¯m scared of her?¡±
¡°No,¡± Adelaida smirked. ¡°But you should be,¡± Adelaida disappeared.
Alrius roared.
