《Qi research logs. Volume 1》 Am I Dreaming? Research Question: Am I dreaming? Background Information: I have woken up in a strange forest. The plants and animals are alien and there appears to be a glow overlaying most things. I have found respite in a hidden cave beneath some underbrush. The place is well hidden, and the entrance is small enough that the larger beasts will not be able to follow me inside. There is a small stream inside the cave. Hypothesis: I am dreaming or experiencing some form of altered consciousness. Variables: During sleep or altered states, it is expected that short term memory and visual effects are common. It¡¯s not good science, but I guess I am the variable here. Control Of Variables: I have an intrinsic lack of control here. Materials: Me. Methods: In order to determine if my current experiences are real, I will be using common methods to determine my conscious state. The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. These include looking for discrepancies in my environment that are in flux. Data:
Test Result
Counting fingers 10, same as expected. Physical appearance also as expected.
Counting fingers(again) 10, same as expected, and same as previous
Reading Words appear legible, do not float
Re-reading Words are identical and have not changed
Forced awakening Nothing
Self administer waking shock Nothing, Face hurts
Attempt double jump In air slightly longer than expected
Retry double jump Not imagining it, gravity seems slightly less
Analysis/Processed Data: I do not appear to be sleeping. This does not rule out all options, but it would probably be best to treat this as reality for the time being. Further Research Topics: The soft glow I mentioned earlier and the discrepancy in gravity will need to be further explored. I shall have to shelve the current questions of how I arrived here and focus on survival. Knowledge is safety. Specimen Collection 1 These are some sketches and presses of various plants and flowers I have been able to collect without journeying too far from my cave. I still see some amount of glow surrounding plants. I will record these details. Specimen #001 Appearance: This flower is yellow and smells slightly of sulfur. Glow: An orange glow can be seen. Specimen #002 Appearance: Light blue petals Glow: Snowy White Specimen #003 Appearance: Petals are grey, and vine is black Glow: The glow appears to be inverted somewhat. Note: I feel an amount of irrational terror towards this plant. A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.Specimen #004 Appearance: Flower is red, and leaves are typical. Glow: A soft pink Notes: After the irregularity of the previous specimen, I will begin noting my emotions when pondering these. This flower brings feelings of warmth. Specimen #005 Appearance: leaves are a dark green reminiscent of tea leaves Glow: A sharp yellow. Mood: Anxiety Specimen #006 Appearance: Primarily Yellow Glow: Dark Purple Mood: none Note: Glow has been fading steadily since collecting specimen. Specimen #007 Appearance: A normal leafy plant Glow: a bright orange. Mood: Relaxed Specimen Collection 2 Note: After collecting some plants and flowers earlier, I have crushed some of the leaves into crude watercolor paint. Its currently approaching midday, and I will soon have to find some form of caloric intake for myself. I decided to explore the rest of the cave, and in the far reaches was a small alcove with what appears to be the spring that is sourcing the stream. The alcove is filled with crystals. I have painted a few of them using the crude paints. I have left them embedded within the walls of the cave. Besides their distinct color, they also exude the same glow that the plants outside do. Specimen #013 Appearance: Stone appears to reflect yellow light. Glow: Yellow Mood: A particular nostalgic familiarity Note: When my hand is barely touching this crystal, a small but sharp pain is felt. This is reminiscent of touching an insufficiently grounded electrical device. Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on Royal Road. Specimen #014 Appearance: Diffracts red light from an unknown source Glow: A dull red Note: Crystal is noticeably warmer then the surrounding stone. Specimen #015 Appearance: Primarily occurring below the water level of the small pond, this crystal is a deep blue color. Glow: A soft light blue. Note: The crystals and plants I have collected so far indicate that I am on an alien world. The strange behavior of the minerals and the soft glow surrounding the specimens have lead me to believe that the world I am currently on has incorporated into its ecosystem some sort of element, compound or chemical that is rarely found on Earth. My next task is to investigate the bio-compatibility between myself and the native creatures. This will not be fun, but it will be better then dying of poison. I do hope its not too late already. The human body does not do well when introduced to things outside of its evolutionary chemical environment. Beastiery 001, Culinary Exploration 001 Note: In this record I will be trying to determine if I can eat the plants in the area. I will be using the Universal Edibility Test on a few specimens I collected earlier. Furthermore, I will split the parts up into the petal, leaf, stem, and root I do not have the ability to use a fire, so I will unfortunately not be able to boil the specimens. The tests are as follows: Test #1: test the specimen to see if it smells offensive. Test #2: rub specimen in armpit and leave for 8 hours to determine immune reaction. Test #3: Place specimen on lips for 15 minutes to determine neurotoxity Test #4: Place under tongue for 5 minutes Test #5: Chew specimen and hold in mouth for 45 minutes Test #6: Swallow small amount and wait 8 hours to see effects. Any abnormalities will be noted, and tests will be discontinued and vomiting induced if necessary. The tests will occur over the course of several days. I have water from the well, and have felt no ill effects from it so far.

During the arduous waiting time, I have distracted myself from the hunger by sitting still near the entrance to the cave and watching the wildlife. I have seen a few familiar species and a couple of very strange species. The familiar species have given me hope that perhaps I am not the only earth life that has ended up here, and that there must be some measure of bio-compatibility for them to survive here. Species #001 Appearance: Identical to a deer, but with what appears to be a second set of ears. Diet: Observed eating specimen #006 Glow: A light brown Species #002 Appearance: A long hairy creature with a similar build to a pig, but with an utterly alien mouth, and a forked lizard like tongue Diet: Specimen #006 and an an insect I will sketch next. Glow: Light Blue Species #003 Appearance: a bright blue insect Diet: Unknown Glow: A swirling blue Note: After noting the prevalence of #006 in the diet of Species #001 and #002, I have decided to skip to testing specimen #006

I hope I have found the answer to my troubles. I will be harvesting some more of #006 and eating small amounts. With Hope, There Is Life. A study on glows Some observations and investigations on the strange glows that seem to be everywhere. Observation #001 Specimen: a leaf from Specimen #009 Note: I have colored the green glow that emanates from the leaf. I have decided to investigate closely this strange phenomenon. The green glow almost seems to bubble away from the leaf, slowly losing brightness and fading away, I will try and see if I can ascertain the properties of the motes in any way.
Action Effect
Obscure glow with a piece of paper Glow can be seen weakly through the paper
Obscure glow with 5 pages Glow can be seen very weekly through papers
Obscure glow with eyelids ... Glow can be seen, very weakly...
Touch glow with pebble from ground Glow seems to not interact at all, passing through the pebble with no effect
Touch glow with second pebble (Pebble is small cloudy quartz stone) Glow appears to be trapped inside the stone. The glow follows the stone before dissipating after a longer time than expected
Record differences in dissipation time dissipation appears to be slowed by at least a factor of 2 (Note: need proper timekeeping, water clock?)
Touch mote with smallest digit Mote Dissipated immediately, finger retained glow Love what you''re reading? Discover and support the author on the platform they originally published on.Note: Glow dissipated from digit shortly after
The remainder of the leafs glow dissipated during this time, and I quickly collected another specimen of the exact same type. Glow Manipulation Experiment Log #002 Background Information: After completing my previous experiments, I noticed an irregularity. During my idle wondering, the dispersing glow from the experiment subject suddenly accelerated towards me. However, as soon as I noticed this phenomenon, it stopped. In the interest of replicating this strange effect, I attempted to recreate the situation. After some amount of inconsequential trial and error, I have determined that the primary catalyst for the effect had something to do with the thoughts that I experienced during my relaxation. Hypothesis: Particular thoughts and mindsets may influence the strange glow. Variables: The variables that I will be experimenting with are different thought processes: Image: The visual thought-stream, such as picture/video equivalent Audio: The audio thought-stream, such as internal monologue Conceptual: The conceptual thought-stream: Holding an idea in mind without articulating it internally Memory: Reliving a particular memory Emotional: Invigorating and holding a particular emotion Control Of Variables: I will be recording my thoughts as best I can. I will be using only leaves from the exacts same plant. I have scuffed the floor where I intend to place the equipment so that they will be in the same location each time. Materials: Leaves from specimen #009 Ten(10) Pebbles of quartz capable of holding the strange glow. Dirt collected from outside the cave. Myself. Methods: In order to determine the effects from my mind state on the glowing particles, I have constructed a crude measuring instrument. It is a pile of dirt, with Ten(10) quartz pebbles embedded vertically at regular intervals. I will place the glowing leaf on the opposite side of the instrument than I. I will then sit cross legged, about three(3) large steps from the instrument. Following that, I will perform the test, and record at what quartz elevation the glows were caught on, as this will determine the force that i will have exerted on the glows.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.Initial results seem to indicate that the emotional state of curiosity on plants seems to be the main driver. Further study on other emotions seems prudent, as well as curiosity towards other things.

For clarity, I will from now be referring to the strange glow as "QI", as it appears to behave similarly to fictional accounts of such energy. Initial emotional tests seem to indicate that the emotion that draws the QI from specimen #009 the most is the emotion felt in the depths of hyper-fixation and learning, similar to curiosity. This emotion is commonly referred to as "flow". For brevity, I will be focusing on this emotion, and continue the experiment with other concepts.

Following the envisioning of the concept in test #029, the free floating QI, and the subject leaf became incredibly bright for a few seconds. After my vision cleared, I observed that no QI was left within the leaf, and that some of the quartz pebbles now appear to emit an appreciable amount of light. After waiting for what felt like several hours, the pebbles lost their light. Analysis/Processed Data: During the testing and after the analysis of the data, I have come to the conclusion that the specific QI in specimen #009 is kept for the purpose of a defensive mechanism. I am surprised that I have not yet activated the defensive mechanism during my harvesting, my current theory is that the trigger mechanism must rely on sensing QI. My lack of personal QI in comparison to the local ecosystem must have lent me some measure of stealth. Further Research Topics: Investigate the QI contained inside the crystals at the back of the cave. Investigate the benefits or harms that holding QI inside my body entail. Investigate the use of Specimen #009 QI in combination with small Quartz stones for use in creating night lights. Investigate the use of QI in general.
