《First Contact with the ISS》 1. First Contact ¡°Chief, what is that?¡± Eric said. ¡°I told you at least dozen times already not to call me that, I ain¡¯t no chief,¡± James said. James came to ISS back in 2030 when the station expanded to be able to comfortably hold 35 people. They were now working on doubling the capacity by the year 2035. James was supposed to spend around 200 days at ISS, but prolonged his stay for the fourth time, barely convincing them to let him stay. He broke the record for the longest time spent in space some year and a half ago. Luckily for him some great advances in medicine have been happening that allowed him to stay this long and not face serious repercussions, coming back to earth eventually would be tricky as always, but he didn¡¯t want to think about it for now he had 180 more days that he was planning to enjoy to the fullest. He found his peace and solitude in space, something he was never able to do down on earth. ¡°Fine fine, but look¡± Eric wouldn¡¯t leave him alone. ¡°What?¡± James said as he finally turned. ¡°Look over there, what is that?¡± Eric said looking thru the station window. James was annoyed, he hated being interrupted while working, but he gave in and came to the window. Eric was the first time here and he remembered that when he came here for the first time everything looked majestic and he couldn¡¯t keep himself away from the window. Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. ¡°There,¡± Eric said once again pointing out of the window. ¡°It¡¯s a star, my man,¡± James said and turned back, but something seemed off and forced him to do a double take. ¡°I don¡¯t think that¡¯s a star.¡± Eric couldn¡¯t keep his eyes away from the window. Once James looked again and look good this time, he dropped the joystick of the mechanical hand he was working with. It was definantely not a star, but rather an object flying towards them at an insane speed. James took out his radio. ¡°Code green, I repeat, Code green!¡± He yelled and pulled Eric away from the windows towards the space where they held their daily meetings which had a larger window. By the time everyone gathered there the room was filled with dead silence as everyone stared out of the window. The object was now easily distinguished from the stars as it clearly took a shape of a spacecraft, something you could only see in Sci-Fi movies, but still so different so alien to the naked eye. Before anyone could mutter a word all of their radios started crackling and an unfamiliar voice resembling a human one came alive. ¡°Human station, we request permission to dock, we are badly damaged and need help.¡± The voice said and the crackling returned. They all looked between each other for what felt like an eternity before Chloe, the next longest-tenured astronaut on the station after James, took her radio up to her lips. ¡°Who are you?¡± That was all she managed to say. ¡°We are the Anoi and we come in peace, I repeat we come in peace. We need help, allow us to dock.¡± The voice said again. ¡°We don¡¯t have the authority, I don¡¯t know if we even have protocols for this, we need to contact our superiors on earth and see what they have to say.¡± Chloe was the one who spoke and no one objected to it, most of them were still too stunned to speak. ¡°Hurry humans, we need to dock and turn off our ship or they will find us and if they do, we are all doomed.¡± The voice said and the silence engulfed the station once again. 2. The Decision ¡°What should we do? Who do we even contact about this to not spread panic?¡± Chloe said. ¡°Let¡¯s take a few minutes to think about it,¡± James finally snapped out of the initial shock, not only we were not alone in the universe but the aliens somehow understood and spoke our language. The crew of the ISS kept on discussing their next step for what felt like an eternity and when they couldn¡¯t decide who to contact the military, their own governments, UN, go open to the public they voted and concluded that the best way was to contact their base of the operation on Earth. Katie Garcia was their superior on Earth and they all gave their weekly reports and took their tasks, she coordinated it all with everyone down on Earth and made their life much easier. ¡°ISS, you have been calling me, we have no scheduled meetings for the rest of the day, what do you need?¡± Katie finally answered their call after several minutes of silence on their side. ¡°Katie,¡± James was the one who would break the news to her. ¡°We have a unique situation.¡± ¡°Go on, James, what is happening, is everything ok?¡± She said in her calm and collected voice as always. ¡°You might want to brace yourself for this one,¡± James said and took a short pause. ¡°We made the first contact almost half an hour ago.¡± ¡°First contact with what? What are you talking about James?¡± She continued in the same tone, the words still meaning nothing to her. ¡°Katie, I am going to be straight and blunt,¡± James took a deep breath. ¡°The alien warship appeared out of nowhere and they made contact with us. They are requesting permission to board our space station. Nothing came back, silence. ¡°Katie, are you there?¡± ¡°James, is this some prank you guys are pulling?¡± Katie asked her voice slightly shifting. ¡°Katie switch to video call,¡± James said and pointed his device¡¯s camera outside of the huge window and the alien ship now stood clearly visible in the vast space. Katie¡¯s face must have changed hundreds of colors before settling on the pale white side. She stood there silenced and James knew not to speak, he just went thru the same thing, let her process this before we continue. ¡°Jesus Christ, is this real?¡± She said her voice cracking. ¡°It¡¯s really Katie, we have no idea what to do, that¡¯s why we contacted you first, you are our superior after all. ¡°Smart choice and they want to dock the ISS, what for?¡± ¡°They say their ship is badly damaged and they need to dock. They also said something along the lines that they need to turn their ship off or ¡±they¡° will find them and we are all screwed.¡± James continued. ¡°Got it, let me get this to the top, this is way above me,¡± She said and stood up from her desk not disconnecting her call. The crew kept discussing and theorizing what the aliens would look like, what they wanted, how they could speak clear English, and so on before James¡¯s tablet rang again. Katie appeared on the screen. This narrative has been purloined without the author''s approval. Report any appearances on Amazon. ¡°Crew of the ISS, I am about to connect you to the conference call with most of the world leaders, military advisors, and our International board,¡± She said. ¡°I brought it only to our people, but they quickly decided they would spread it to the rest of them, this was apparently in the handbook if the first contact ever happened the presidents and the military top were to be contacted immediately.¡± Connecting with you now. The screen expanded and flashed with what seemed hundreds of individual faces all with their unique look of worry breaking thru. One screen expanded over the other and the familiar face appeared, it was the Director General of the Europen Space Agency, Dr. Thomas Martinez. ¡°Ladies and gentlemen, congratulations on the first contact,¡± He said trying to keep his composure. ¡°Can you contact the alien battleship now so we can all talk to them directly?¡± ¡°We can try,¡± James said and took his radio out. ¡°Allien battleship can you hear us, this is the ISS station, come in.¡± Everyone held their breath, but nothing sound came back. ¡°Anoi battleship, can you hear us?¡± James repeated and the static crackled over the radio again. ¡°Humans, we can hear you. Have you decided to let us dock, time is running out?¡± James pointed the radio towards the tablet so the voice could be heard on their call as well. ¡°Nothing has been decided yet, you are now speaking with the leaders of different Earth countries and organizations,¡± James said. ¡°Human leadership, this is Anoi battleship speaking, we were badly damaged in the battle and our navigation system malfunctioned while in hyperspace so it dropped us here. We need to dock your ISS and turn off our ship completely until we fix it, do we have permission.¡± For a brief moment, everyone on the call was too stunned to speak, before another screen expanded to full and the Secretary General of the UN appeared. ¡°How can you speak and understand English,¡± He asked. ¡°Our technology is way more advanced than yours, universal translators are a norm and your English and several more languages have been uploaded some 50 years ago, we¡¯ve known about your exitance for a long time, but with war raging on several parts of our and other galaxies there was no time for first contact.¡± ¡°How can our radars and satellites not see you, but they can up there on the ISS,¡± Secretary General continued. ¡°Once again, our technology allows us to hide from you, they can see us because we allowed them to, we could have probably landed on Earth without you being able to spot us with a fully functional ship.¡± The alien voice said. ¡°There will be time for us to answer all your questions, but we really need to dock right now.¡± ¡°How can we trust you?¡± ¡°You can¡¯t,¡± The voice echoes thru the room and sends shivers down James¡¯s spine. ¡°But you will have to. If we wanted to we could have forced our way onto the station and maybe we will have to if you keep prolonging your decision, but it¡¯s not our way.¡± The silence again. ¡°We will get back to you in some time,¡± The Secretary-General said. ¡°You have five minutes to decide, we are running out of time.¡± The conference call went into pure chaos and the ISS crew just stood there listening. Some idiot suggested nuking the alien ship and the other suggestions ranged from welcoming them with the open arms to sending them back to wherever they came from. Five minutes passed and the decision wasn¡¯t any closer. Aliens made contact once again. ¡°What have you decided, Humans.¡± The voice said, cold and emotionless. ¡°They have made no decision yet,¡± James said. ¡°You need to let us dock now,¡± Anoi alien said. None of the crew of the ISS paid attention to the window and the ship. As they turned their jaws dropped, the ship was almost at the station and it was huge. ISS at the time was around 350m long and the ship easily doubled that in length. James tried talking to the call, but they kept arguing, and no one paid attention to them. With so many egos on one call and no clear chain of command, the decision would never be made. James contacted Katie alone with another call. ¡°What should we do, they will never make a decision,¡± James said. ¡°Their ship is close to the station right now and I am afraid for our crew¡¯s well-being if they decided on no.¡± ¡°It¡¯s your decision, James, consult Chloe and Meng as the three longest-tenured and most experienced astronauts on the station.¡± James took Chloe and Meng to the side as the Crew was in the awe of the ship. ¡°I think we should allow them to dock, they will never make any decision in time down there on earth. And my gut is telling me it¡¯s the right thing to do.¡± James said to two of them. ¡°I agree,¡± Meng said. ¡°Me too,¡± Chloe added. ¡°Anoi battleship, you are clear to land,¡± James said over the radio as the voices kept shouting on the conference call. ¡°Finally, we are coming in Humans,¡± The voice said and the cracking stopped. 3. The Real First Contact The first thing the crew thought of is how would the aliens even dock, there was no way their docking mechanism would match the ISS¡¯s, but the Anoi¡¯s said not to worry about it. The second thing was the space inside the station, ISS was expanded but it was fit to hold 35 astronauts comfortably, and up to 50 of them when the shifts were happening. There was the new unused part which the crew was expanding to fit more people later on and the Anoi¡¯s said they would quickly retrofit it to suit their needs until they fix their ship. The leaders and other people that were part of the initial call were not happy that the ISS crew made the decision on their own and assured James, Chloe, and Meng that they would face the consequences once they landed down on earth, as they were the ones that took the blame. But they stood by their decision, all 35 of them agreed now that this was what they had to do. They were first on the line and they just couldn¡¯t wait for the leaders and higher-ups to butt their heads indefinitely. Another thing they warned the crew about from Earth, were diseases, and viruses, they were unknown life forms to us chances were high that they would expose us to something and we were ordered to wear suits at all times. Anoi¡¯s reassured us that were not in any danger in regard to new viruses, diseases, and so on, but to ease our worry they would also wear their own suits all the time. They prepared everything on their side for the docking and the crew just stood there waiting, excitement and nervousness combining into a new feeling inside them. The Anoi¡¯s brought the ship as close as 100 meters to the ISS and then they deployed their docking mechanism. It spewed out of the side of the battleship like a hand reaching towards the station. Their docking mechanism looked to be alive as it changed its size and shape while approaching the station. The arm reached the ISS dock and made itself fit perfectly then it stiffened and expanded in height resembling a hallway between the ship and the station. Anoi¡¯s announced they were coming towards the station and the crew embraced themselves for the true first contact. They had no real means of defending themselves if the Anoi¡¯s had ulterior motives for this visit. The docking finally opened and the first Anoi stepped in then the rest followed, they seemed to have their own gravity field as they walked normally while the crew floated in the station. They all were similar in height, almost 7 feet tall, and lanky in build. They all wore matching suits that looked far more advanced than what the Astronauts wore. Their suits resembled something you would see in Sci-Fi shows and movies, a battlesuit. First Anoi that came in walked towards James who was unknowingly floating a bit further than the rest of the crew. The Anoi stood in front of him then slightly bowed and opened his left palm in front of him. James wasn¡¯t sure what to do, then palmed the alien creature¡¯s hand similar motion to a high-five, the alien then straightened up. ¡°Greetings humans, I am the one you spoke to over the radio, my name is Azcrawford or it¡¯s what it would sound in your English language and this is my crew.¡± They all did the motion of slightly bowing and showing their left hand. ¡°My name is James, I am an astronaut and part of the Earth International space program and these are the 34 astronauts that are occupying the station in this cycle,¡± James said gesturing towards the crew. ¡°Nice to meet you all and thank you for finally letting us in, we really need to get to work, firstly to completely turn off our ship and then fix it, we might need some of your help as well,¡± Azcrawford said. This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there. ¡°The Earth country leaders and other higher-ups will want to talk to you directly right away,¡± James said. ¡°We don¡¯t have time for that now, tell them it can wait for now James,¡± Azcrawford added then turned towards his crew. He clearly turned off his translator as the next time that came out of his mouth, if he even had one James thought to himself, were a bunch of noises scrambled together unlike anything he ever heard. It sounded animalistic yet had a syntax and clear slow and unlike animal noises, it didn¡¯t repeat itself as Azcrawford relayed commands to his team. Chloe showed them the new part of the station they were expanding into and part of the alien team followed her. The rest of them went back into their battleship inviting James and Meng along with them. The corridor towards the ship looked both mechanical and organic, a mix neither James nor Meng ever saw in their lives. But once they entered the alien ship their jaws truly dropped. They both expected something they saw in movies a rough-looking interior with not much substance to it, a space tank, but what they saw was a ship that was alive with vibrant colors and beautiful-looking hallways that led deeper into the ship. ¡°Not what you have expected humans?¡± Azcrawford asked. ¡°Not in the slightest,¡± Ming answered looking around the ship. ¡°Well, Anoi ships are known as one of the most beautiful in the coalition, even our battleship can put other species cruisers to shame,¡± Azcrawford said. The two humans floated behind the Azcrawrod as he walked down the corridor of the warship. They came to what looked like a hangar, a huge room in the middle of the ship. The alien gave them several boxes to carry back to the station. ¡°I am sorry to be blunt, but who the hell are you, can we get some explanation, this also feels so surreal to me,¡± James said as he wasn¡¯t able to contain a million questions burning inside his mind. ¡°Ahh, where to even start? I know you must curious right now, but everything will make sense someday I believe. But fine, I¡¯ll put your mind to ease a little bit now.¡± The lanky Alien said. ¡°As I already said we are the Anoi, a race that comes from a solar system around 15 000 light years away from earth.¡± The Alien continued. ¡°We are far older civilization than yours, we have been in what you call modern age for at least 20 000 of your years. We are explorers by nature, we love to travel the vastness of the universe and discover new species and civilizations as well as the ruins left of the former ones. But we were forced into this coalition because in one of our largest explorations ever we stumbled onto Kraz¡¯ox, a race of war-hungry maniacs that see nothing but war. They saw our exploration as part of the aggression as we broke into their space unannounced, but we didn¡¯t know they even existed.¡± The Alien stopped for what looked like a deep breath and then continued. ¡°They wiped our whole expedition and came after our home planet. Luckily for us, the coalition containing almost 15 other races contacted us and came to our aid. It was some hundred of your years ago and we are at war ever since again the Kraz¡¯ox and their alliance.¡± ¡°Are those Kraz¡¯ox the ones you said will find you if you don¡¯t turn off your ship,¡± Meng asked. ¡°Yes, we will talk more later, we need to hurry now, get the rest of your crew to carry all the boxes and equipment back to the station before we turn off the ship,¡± Azcrawford said. They all spend the next hour carrying various boxes and equipment back to the ship, once they were finished Azcrawford popped a terminal on his hand that expanded into a hologram screen in front of him and turned off their ship. The giant battleship now looked like a dead beast next to the station. Azcrawford and the rest of the alien crew took their time to show the astronauts how to use their various equipment and then gave them instructions on what to do. James with three other astronauts was tasked with helping to fix the outside of their ship, more precisely their thrusters that were busted down in the flight. Four astronauts and three aliens made their way toward the thrusters and started working on the instructions of Azcrawford. Some ten minutes in they finally caught the rhythm of the job, it seemed like welding but with some form of nanites that latched themselves onto the broken parts of the ship and what looked like healed the broken parts. James was concentrating on the job when in his peripheral vision he saw the lights puff out of nowhere, he turned his head towards that part of the space and saw an armada of battleship appear out of nowhere. ¡°Azcrawford what are those?¡± He asked pointing and the Alien turned his head in the direction. ¡°We were to late, those are Kraz¡¯ox ships¡¡± 4. The Jump ¡°Honey hurry up,¡± Emma called to Marcus. ¡°I can¡¯t contain the kids any longer,¡± Emma said. ¡°I am coming in a minute and we are going,¡± Marcus yelled from the bathroom. Marcus¡¯s phone buzzed again, frustrating Emma further, it seemed like that phone never stopped buzzing after Marcus¡¯s promotion. Marcus took over the whole division that specialized in CyberSecurity. He was a little bit less busy with work now than when he was a developer, but with this new title, he had to be available 24/7 as he was responsible for over ten teams working on different projects. They were one of the top CyberSecurity companies in the world, which in turn meant they were in charge of the most popular streaming services, news outlets, and even some government project Marcus was not allowed to share with anyone, and he always respected his employers and contract obligations. All five of them needed this vacation, they needed some quality time together, it seemed kids were growing up faster than they could adapt. The phone rang again and this time Emma was determined to turn it off, but once she took the phone in her hands, she saw over 70 missed calls in the last twenty minutes and several messages from Marcus¡¯s bosses that urged him to pick up the phone instantly. ¡°Marcus, get down here now, your phone won¡¯t stop ringing and there are dozens of messages that it¡¯s urgent,¡± Emma yelled once again. ¡°I told them not to call me for the next two weeks, what could be that urgent,¡± He said as he walked down the stairs. ¡°I don¡¯t know,¡± She said. ¡°But better fix it quickly we need to leave in five,¡± Emma said and chased after their youngest son. Marcus was surprised by all the calls and messages, yes his phone was usually on fire, but never to this magnitude. He quickly returned a call to Brian, the company¡¯s CEO, the phone rang once and Brian immediately picked up. ¡°Where are you, have you seen this,¡± Brian was frantic. ¡°Calm down, I was getting ready to leave for the airport, what¡¯s going on?¡± Marcus said ¡°We lost control on all of our projects, we are breached, we can¡¯t access anything,¡± Marcus told and then shouted at someone in the office. ¡°Get here right now, it¡¯s not only us, everyone is locked out of their-¡± The phone cut off before Brian could finish. Marcus took his laptop out of the backpack and tried to log in to StreamRush, the leading streaming platform of the last three years but his access got denied, he tried to log in as an administrator, same result. He tried other websites and applications but nothing happened. ¡°Honey, turn on the TV please,¡± He yelled. ¡°We don¡¯t have time for that now, we have to leave,¡± Emma yelled back. ¡°Just do it, something weird is happening.¡± ¡°There is nothing on, Cable is down,¡± She yelled back. ¡°Oh wait, something is appearing.¡± Marcus walked into the living room and the TV turned from static to black and then a zoomed-in face appeared. It took him a moment to notice it wasn¡¯t a human face, it was humanoid, yes, but everything was off. The skin color was light violet, the eyes had several colors, and the face looked slightly elongated. If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. ¡°Change the channel,¡± Marcus said. Emma changed several channels, but that face was still on them. Marcus took the remote from her and turned on StreamRush, the same face again, looking straight ahead. ¡°What is this? Some new movie or game promotion?¡± Emma asked. ¡°It can¡¯t be, this is illegal on so many levels, no one can promote like this,¡± As soon as Marcus finished his sentence static could be heard from the TV and the creature started talking. ¡°Greetings citizens of planet Earth, we are the Kraz¡¯oxs and we come in peace,¡± The alien said in pure English his voice sounding no different than the ordinary human. ¡°What kind of a sick prank is this?¡± Emma asked. ¡°I don¡¯t know,¡± Marcus answered. ¡°I know it¡¯s hard to believe, but our ships will be entering your atmosphere in less than a minute and that should be proof enough.¡± The alien continued. Marcus and Emma looked at each other confused as ever and then a loud bang came from the outside. They took the children in their arms and ran outside. To their utter shock and surprise, the bang was from the massive alien ship entering our atmosphere. The scene sends shivers down Marcus¡¯s spine and he instinctively gripped his child harder. The rest of the neighborhood was out on the street hands on their foreheads and looking towards the sky. Marcus took his phone out of his pocket and opened StreamRush once again. ¡°By now you should have been able to see our ships on most parts of the Earth or at least on the video,¡± The alien continued. ¡°But fear not, once again we come in peace, we have no intention of hurting you¡¡± ***************** James was shocked by the sight of all these alien ships, if what Azcrawford said was true, humanity was in a lot of trouble. Azcrawford yelled first in their own animalistic language then in English for everyone to leave everything they are doing and rush back to the station. He didn¡¯t have to repeat it twice as everyone dropped their tools and used their tethers to pull themselves towards the station. Once inside the mostly calm Anoi looked frantic, whether what they said Azcrawford said about everything was true was yet to be seen, but they were clearly afraid of what had just arrived in our solar system. ¡°Can we jump now?¡± Azcrawford one of his crew members. ¡°We didn¡¯t have time to fix much,¡± The alien answered and the translator was still on, so the whole ISS crew could understand them. ¡°But is it possible?¡± Azcrawford said. ¡°The drive will turn on, but our navigations will still be rocky, chances we end up inside or too close to a star or stranded in the middle of nowhere are high,¡± The alien answered. ¡°We have to take these chanced, we can¡¯t get captured here, they torture us until they get all the information they need, and then they will kill us all,¡± Azcrawford said. Azcrawford looked around the station both at his and the ISS crew. ¡°Everyone get inside our ship now!¡± For the first time, he yelled. ¡°Why would we go with you?¡± Meng asked ¡°We will have to jump from this point and it will 100% blow ISS into billion pieces, we don¡¯t have time to move away as soon as we turn on our ship they will target our drives, for now, they most likely think they are down and they will try to board this station, kill you all and then capture us,¡± Azcrawford said and gestured everyone towards the tunnel. When presented like that, it was a simple choice, to die or board the alien ship and the ISS crew followed the aliens inside their vessel. Once inside the Azcrawford instructed all the astronauts towards one of the rooms near the hangar and gave all of them the same suits the Anoi were wearing. He explained that they would not survive the jump without the suit and that the suit would adapt to their build, they were universally used across the coalition so that¡¯s why they were adaptable. There was no breathable air inside the ship for a moment, so that¡¯s why they had to put the helmets on first. James took his breath in and then took his helmet off and then quickly put the alien one on. The helmet adapted to perfectly fit his head, and he could barely feel like he had anything on his head. He had a full vision, nothing obstructing his peripheral like was the case with most helmets. Once they all had their full suits on, Azcrawford, instructed them to mount themselves to the wall, there were these tiny handles on the wall all over the ship, James notices that the first time around, and once they touched them they fully embraced the suit and fixated them to the wall. Azcrawford did the same near James and then yelled for his crew to turn on the ship and instanenuiosly jump towards the coalition¡¯s space. The ship came alive, bursting with vibrant colors and before astronauts could marvel at it, their vision went black, the Anoi initiated the jump. 5. The Ancient Ones ¡°Daddy, what is that?¡± Ella, the youngest child asked while Marcus and Emma blankly stared at the phone screen. ¡°Nothing don¡¯t worry about it, let¡¯s go inside the house,¡± Emma said not breaking eye contact with the phone. ¡°Your government has been hiding the truth from you,¡± The alien said. ¡°And they have been harboring a dangerous alien species while you knew nothing about it.¡± A video of a spaceship, different looking than one in the sky, latched to the International Space Station popped on the screen. The video showed an alien ship powering up and then warping the space around it before completely vanishing, leaving the remnants of the ISS, a thousand little pieces of now junk, floating around the space. ¡°They allowed this species named Anoi to dock on your station and fix their ship, which we damaged in the battle. These Anoi are a dangerous species, part of an even more sinister coalition that travels the universe looking only to conquer and enslave anyone inferior to them.¡± The alien continued after the video cut. ¡°Because we can¡¯t trust your obviously corrupted governments, we will temporarily take control of your planet. More of our ships will be entering your solar system and then planet in the upcoming days. We will need your help humans in order to stop the Anoi and their blood-thirsty coalition from reigning hell all over the universe and now that they know that Earth is habitable and has this many citizens they will for sure come back to use your natural resources and use you, humans, as a working force in their war effort.¡± The alien concluded its speech. After the short pause, another Kraz¡¯oxs came to the screen, this one introduced himself as an ambassador and the one who would coordinate human and Kraz¡¯oxs meetings and everything that is going to happen in the near future. His last instructions were to continue on with their lives as normal for the next few days before the rest of Kraz¡¯oxs ships arrive and when they do he would be broadcasting again with instructions on what to do further. As soon as the broadcast ended all the streaming platforms, websites, apps, and cable went back to normal and all the devices that were on started blasting their own things. Marcus ignored the sounds standing in the same spot looking into the distance with the sweat pouring from his forehead. Not only aliens existed, but there were at least two different species and they were some talk about coalition so god knows how many species existed that were far more advanced than humans. Marcus snapped out of his hypnosis and looked around the house where his children were running around oblivious to what just happened, how could he protect them from this? Was there a need for protection? Questions kept popping into his mind one after another, questions for which he didn¡¯t have any answers. ***** James woke up from his sleep or did he pass out? He couldn¡¯t remember, but he was awake now and as he looked around he could conclude that all the other astronauts suffered the same fate, some were waking up, some were still out, while the Anoi were already on their feet scrambling around the ship. ¡°Where are we?¡± Azcrawford yelled at another lanky Anoi. ¡°Don¡¯t know, our navigation is not online yet were are doing our best to fix it.¡± The lanky alien yelled back and went on his way. If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. The thing that was holding James to the wall finally released him and he went on to check on Chloe and Meng, first helping them on their feet before helping the other astronauts. It took them over fifteen minutes to get everyone on their feet and by that time Azcrawford came to James pulling him to the side. ¡°Our ship is still in pretty bad shape,¡± Azcrawford said. ¡°We could use your help fixing it, if everyone is ready tell them to ask my team what they can help and they will give them tasks.¡± James nodded. ¡°What happened with the jump? Did we land where you intended?¡± James asked ¡°We still don¡¯t know and we couldn¡¯t aim precisely so we just aimed towards our coalition space and we hope we reached it, come with me,¡± Azcrawford said. James followed Azcrawford through the ship. They reached a smaller room with a huge amount of screens and in the center of the room there was a huge device that resembled a conference room table above it hovered an image of Anoi ship, it looked like a diagnostic hologram. The screen flashed mostly red, Anoi apparently used Red as Humans did, for something that was off or broken. The alien from before enters the room running and one of the blinking red dots turned green seconds after he came. ¡°We fixed the navigation,¡± He said and Azcrawford did a gesture that resembled nodding. Azcrawford turned towards the hologram and did a few gestures with his hands and the hologram zoomed out of the ship. The image now showed their ship as a tiny dot in space, and the words in an alien language popped on the screen. James had no idea what was going on but somehow knew not to bother Azcrawford as he continued to do the hand gestures. ¡°This is not good, get everyone here,¡± Azcrawford yelled towards the other Anoi and he then relayed the message over the comms that James couldn¡¯t hear. ¡°What¡¯s going on?¡± James asked. ¡°We ended up in the forbidden part of our galaxy,¡± Azcrawford said. ¡°What do you mean forbidden?¡± ¡°Well, the species that live here are far older than all of us involved in this war and far superior, we need to get out of here as soon as possible, let¡¯s just hope they are not here, or they haven¡¯t seen us yet,¡± Azcrawford said ¡°Please explain further, this is getting rather confusing,¡± James pushed Azcrawford for some answers. ¡°Well this species called Qhiks, are ancient compared to all of us, and they were a war species long ago, destroying countless stars and solar systems and even galaxies in their war with other ancient species. Some long time ago they all stopped the war for some unknown reason getting into their own corners of the universe.¡° Azcrawford spoke as he continued playing with the hologram. ¡°Some centuries ago we enter their space unknowingly and their technology made us look so inferior, they could wipe us all with a blink of an eye. They gave our expedition a strict message to get it out there to all of our allies to never enter their space or we would be completely destroyed and wiped from existence. They gave us the location of their planets and solar systems and we have respected their wishes since then, so that¡¯s why we need to get out of here right now.¡± James felt a knot tightening around his throat, his heart was racing, and he felt completely broken. Things kept getting from bad to worse at rapid speeds. What if they just denied the Anoi¡¯s land and they somehow left on their own, he and the rest of the Crew would be on the ISS, and earth could be safe. Now, he didn¡¯t even want to think about what was going on on Earth, but he hoped the Kraz¡¯oxs just left after Anoi. The rest of the Anoi rushed into the room and took their positions around the table and on the far wall which had some instruments on it. ¡°Can we jump immediately?¡± Azcrawford asked. ¡°Trying to get the drive online,¡± Another alien answered. ¡°Cloak us in the meantime, don¡¯t let them see us,¡± Azcrawford shouted at the team on the far wall. ¡°The drive won¡¯t be ready for another ten minutes,¡± The first Alien gave his estimate. Before Azcrawford could answer the hologram that was showing the ship now zoomed out just a little bit and popped with what seemed hundreds of tinny orange dots, the Qhiks noticed then and they were already here. ¡°Send them a message we ended up here by mistake and that we will be leaving right away, apologize, beg,¡± Azcrawford yelled. ¡°We can¡¯t, they took full control of our ship,¡± another Anoi said and the ship shook violently, ¡°We are being pulled by them¡¡± 6. Across the Universe James was tired, scared, confused, angry, but also just a tiny little bit excited about all this. He never quite found his place on earth, he was a good student, a good athlete had a good group of friends through most parts of his life, but there was always something missing, some inner peace that couldn¡¯t be archived. That was until he did his first mission in space, as soon as he left the Earth¡¯s orbit that missing piece was finally filled, looking down on Earth and then out onto infinity made him truly happy for the first time in his life, true unconditional happiness. He had a fiance before his first stint in space, but that fell apart once he came back. After that he gave his all to become a part of the ISS program, he needed to get back to space and find that inner peace once again. Now he, along with his 34 crew members, was deeper into space than any human before. They found themselves in a dance between two warring factions of alien species that were far more technologically advanced than humans, but somehow even that was nothing, there was always a bigger fish as they now were dragged thru the galaxy by the Qhiks, an ancient species that made the Anoi fear for their lives. The Qhiks have been hauling them thru space for almost an hour now without any effort to contact them. The Anoi was nervous and looking for a way to escape this situation, but so far nothing worked, they¡¯ve completely lost control over the ship. The Anoi was certain that the Qhiks were going to kill them all and even worse, they feared they would wipe out their home planet and their whole species from existence. The command room had no windows or openings so after Azcrawford finally snapped out of his state, they all walked back to the hangar which had enormous windows on two sides. The sight was incredible and terrifying, there were dozens of Qhiks ships on both sides of the Anoi vessel. The Qhiks¡¯ warships were smaller than the Anoi and to James, they somehow looked even more alien than the Anoi¡¯s. They were triangular in shape and they had a huge circular extension at the bottom that resembled a space elevator prototype that James had seen at several congresses before. The ships glowed orange from various points, the brightest being at the point of the triangle and the bottom of the extension. ¡°What are they planning to do with us?¡± Meng broke the silence asking no one in particular. ¡°Azcrawford, what are they doing?¡± James redirected the question toward the ship¡¯s leader. ¡°I have no idea, maybe they are bringing us as proof before they do some destruction,¡± Azcrawford said. ¡°But whatever it is, it can¡¯t be good.¡± ¡°What¡¯s that thing?¡± Eric said from across the room looking out of the window. ¡°What did you see this time?¡± James yelled back and walked towards him, Azcrawford and Meng following him. The scene was breathtaking, there were two planets that looked similar to Earth orbiting a decently sized star. But that was not what Eric pointed towards, further away from the two planets there was a pentagonal-looking structure that was being opened and the inside of it glowed the same orange as Qhiks ships. The Qhiks were hauling them directly towards that object. ¡°What is that thing?¡± Eric asked. ¡°That is most likely a gate,¡± Azcrawford answered. ¡°We tried to understand how they can jump from one corner of the universe to another, so we came to a conclusion they must have found a way to build some form of teleportation. We couldn¡¯t snoop too much to not startle them, so we couldn¡¯t find any proof but our experts¡¯ working theory were the gates, and it would seem they were right.¡± This story has been unlawfully obtained without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. ¡°Can¡¯t you do the same?¡± James joined the conversation. ¡°No, while we can jump and travel light years in seconds, our drives need time to recharge after a few jumps and the maximum distance with one jump is around a quarter of the Milky Way galaxy length or around 25 000 light-years, but the longer the jump the less accurate it is and that¡¯s how we ended at your doorstep after the battle. We usually tend to jump around 8 000 light-years when we travel big distances and between 1000 and 2000 when we want to maneuver with precision.¡± The lanky Alien learned his lesson and explained things right away as humans would ask for details anyway, whether they understood what he talked about or not. Before anyone else could mutter a word a strange voice, echoed through the ship in what seemed like Anoi language. The ISS crew looked among themselves. ¡°Can anyone understand what it¡¯s saying?¡± Chloe asked and the rest of the crew confirmed they couldn¡¯t. ¡°Who is speaking and what is it saying?¡± James asked Azcrawford directly. ¡°It¡¯s them, wait¡¡± Azcrawford answered and did a similar hand gesture to a human, meaning wait don¡¯t bother me now. The voice continued to speak for almost a minute and all the Anoi just stood still. The voice stopped and the Anoi started speaking to each other. ¡°What did it say?¡± James asked again. ¡°They said that they were about to destroy us, but saw 35 signatures of other species and then decided to bring us all into their own solar system for further evaluation,¡± Azcrawford answered. ¡°And they also said not to touch anything as we won¡¯t be able to get back control of the ship.¡± ¡°So we are going through the gate?¡± Chloe added. ¡°Yes, they said not to worry about it, we wouldn¡¯t feel a thing,¡± Azcrawford answered and then turned towards his crew. The Anoi¡¯s kept to themselves the rest of the way towards the gate and James, Meng and Chloe did the same, they gathered the ISS crew in the corner and discussed their situation amongst themselves. ¡°If everything the Anoi said is true, we need to get the message to the Qhiks that we have nothing to do with this,¡± Chloe said to the crew. ¡°I agree but how, if you didn¡¯t notice even the Anoi can¡¯t contact them and we don¡¯t even know how any of their technology works,¡± Meng said. ¡°I know that, I am just saying so we are all on the same page.¡± Chloe continued. ¡°If we get separated and captured by them, whatever happens, we need to say that we are here just by mistake.¡± They all agreed on the matter and then split into smaller groups to discuss the crazy things they¡¯ve seen since the Anoi appeared. They had no idea how much time has exactly passed, but it didn¡¯t seem like an important thing at the time either. James and Meng just stood in silence by the window looking at the two Super-Earths and then at the gate. The gate was now fully open and orange light spilled in and out of the structure. They were almost at the gate and by James¡¯s estimates, it would take them less than ten minutes before they entered it. The voice could be heard once again and Anoi explained it just said that they would enter the gate in a matter of minutes and that they would instantly appear in a solar system of a galaxy far away from Milky Way. James embraced himself to a handle as they approached the gate and its orange light. The light reached towards the Anoi ship like it wanted to grab him, the view out of the hangar windows turned completely orange, and then only seconds later it dissipated, and they arrived. James, the ISS crew, and the Anoi all rushed towards the window and there was something to see. It was a binary solar system, two suns working together to give life to ten planets. Both stars had some kind of a structure around them, a Dyson sphere if James had to guess. Their suits had the capability of zooming in large distances and looking at all ten planets it seemed like they all were habitable, at least to the naked human eye. They had oceans and what looked like large continents, each planet was orbited by massive structures, most likely space stations. The voice echoed again and this time even the ISS crew could understand it. ¡°Welcome to our home,¡± The Qhiks voice said. 7. The Landing Marcus didn¡¯t sleep, but who even slept in times like these? He drove his family to his parents in the countryside, his two brothers would do the same in the upcoming days. It felt pointless because how do you even hide from Aliens that can hijack the most protected human technology in seconds and have spaceships that can travel over galaxies. But at least they would be away from heavily populated areas and humans that lost their minds immediately. The ride to the countryside was intense, the reads were filled with the military, people were fleeing left and right, and it felt like there was no law anymore. As soon as the Alien broadcast ended three days ago the world devolved into chaos. Governments and militaries tried to convince people that they were still in control, but it didn¡¯t work. Martial Law was enforced, but people didn¡¯t care. People clashed with the military and police trying to flee the cities or even worse, loot them or just cause chaos for lack of any other thing to do. Cults worshiping those aliens arose faster than the speed of light and on the other spectrum protectors of Earth formed at various points of the earth, ¡°Earth is only for Humans¡± was their motto. People turned xenophobic to Earth¡¯s new visitors pretty fast, to no one¡¯s surprise. Kraz¡¯ox were supposed to land today and finally break the silence. Since the broadcast, three days ago, there were no further words or instructions from aliens, their ships kept hovering in the skies all over the world, but no new ships came since then. People tried to reach the ships with their drones but they got fried, the same happened to military aircraft as soon as they reached a certain distance their engines stopped and pilots were forced to eject. There were some rumors that a few countries wanted to nuke the alien ships, but luckily for humanity, nothing came of it. Marcus tried to understand how Kraz¡¯ox easily broke all their encryptions and protections in order to broadcast worldwide, but what he saw made no sense. It was as if they had all their passwords, knew all their code, and were present at their machines at the same time. For them, it was simple as if you wanted to cast your phone screen to your TV in your own home. It bothered Marcus so he decided to head to Central Park, one of the places where aliens were supposed to land today according to their broadcast. Drive towards Manhattan showed that the situation went from bad to worse, most of the windows were broken, stores were looted, cars were smashed, people were still clashing with the military on several fronts, and random fires were all over the city. Marcus ignored all of that and rode straight towards the 13th Precinct where one of his childhood friends, Joanna, was waiting for him. Joanna worked as a Detective for almost seven years now and ever since the Aliens made contact she and Marcus were in touch non-stop about everything that was happening. She worked on several cybersecurity-related cases and consulted with Marcus a lot, which rejuvenated their friendship. They met up and switched to her police car. The park was blocked from all the sites by both military and police, she used her badge to get them past barricades. ¡°Anything new since last night?¡± She asked him. ¡°Nothing, I can¡¯t make sense out of any of it¡¡± Marcus said. ¡°If I could at least understand a little bit of it, maybe it would have given us some understanding of them, but nothing, everything looks normal as if nothing happened.¡± ¡°Don¡¯t beat yourself up,¡± She added patting him on the shoulder. ¡°No one was ready for this.¡± ¡°What¡¯s the word on the street, what happens if they land today?¡± Marcus asked her. ¡°I don¡¯t know, apparently Mr. President and his delegation are going to welcome the ones that land in DC, while here in New York and other US cities military would be a welcoming party.¡± She replied. Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation. ¡°That can¡¯t be good,¡± Marcus added. ¡°I don¡¯t know, it¡¯s better than letting people rush the aliens, imagine those anti-aliens welcome them with some homemade bombs angering them in the process. Maybe with the military, we could appear as if we have something under the control.¡± ¡°Makes sense, but I doubt they don¡¯t already know that world turned into chaos, it¡¯s not like we can hide it,¡± Marcus said. As they walked inside the part they continued their conversation which turned casual, with questions about families, work before aliens, and some stories from their childhood that always made them smile. When they reached the last circle of military check-ups, where only military higher-ups could enter, they found themselves in a decent position from which they could observe the alien spacecraft once it lands. Marcus lighted a cigarette and started looking around. Everyone faces, whether military, police, politician, or civilian said the same thing, they all hoped and prayed that Kraz¡¯ox was telling the truth and they really came in peace and that this would rather be humanity stepping stone than their downfall. Marcus inhaled his cigarette, a dirty pleasure that always came back with a stressful situation, and he checked his phone the screen went black, unresponsive, and then it turned to static. Instead of another Alien appearing on the screen, the static turned into a repeating message that read ¡°We are coming down!¡±. The park buzzed with military commands, the rifles were up and the tensions were even higher. Marcus and Joanna stood at their positions looking all over the sky for a sign of new ships, the one that was above New York still didn¡¯t move. After a few minutes of looking around, a familiar loud bang could be heard again as dozens of ships enter the atmosphere over New York. These ships were smaller and looked different than the ones that were hovering in the sky for the past three days. Three of the ships broke off and came straight to the park. As they came close their size became clearer, they were about as twice as long as a boing 747, and almost as wide, appearing to be a perfect rectangular shape. The three ships touched the ground and the military quickly formed a perimeter around them. Minutes later tension could be cut with a knife as everyone waited for the aliens to come out. The ships finally opened at the sides and more than twenty Kraz¡¯ox came out of each ship. They appeared to be wearing three different sets of suits. Most of them wore full-body suits with helmets on making them unable to see their faces, most likely their military. The second larger group wore similar suits but not as bulky and they had no helmets, and two aliens from each ship wore what appeared to be simple green robes embroidered with golden details all over. The aliens looked exactly the same as they did on the broadcast and their individual faces showed almost no differences from the distance Marcus was looking. Some General, Joanna said his name was Ford, walked towards the aliens and greeted them, but the aliens ignored his gesture and walked past him. Soldiers reacted immediately by pointing their guns at the Aliens, but before the situation could escalate a loud bang came from the west side of the park. Flames and smoke could be seen not far from their position, and both Aliens and the soldiers turned in that direction. Marcus kept looking for the cause of the explosion and not even 30 seconds later five black army-looking vehicles came from that direction. Marcus recognized the logo on their doors, the logo that showed planet Earth in Two Hands, the anti-alien group that somehow gained insane popularity in the past three days. The back of the vehicles was filled with masked people holding guns and rocket launchers. Soldiers shouted for them to stop and before they could fire on their own, one of the anti-alien people shot his rocket launcher directly at the Kraz¡¯ox delegation. Something sank in Micheal¡¯s gut, why was he ever here, what made him come, that feeling that he needed to be here, to find some answers, but now he could die without his family, not being able to hug Emma and the kids at least one more time. Shortly after the first rocket launcher was fired, two more followed and the rockets rushed towards the Kraz¡¯ox, but they didn¡¯t seem to react to the commotion at all. Marcus looked in shock as the rockets hit an invisible barrier some 10 feet before Kraz¡¯ox and exploded sending several soldiers to the ground but Kraz¡¯ox stayed calm. Moments after the explosion the Kraz¡¯ox in full body armor left the formation and sent a blast towards the anti-alien group. The blast evaporated the vehicles and people inside them leaving nothing almost nothing behind. Soldiers stood frozen before getting a command to attack the aliens and in a matter of seconds Central Park turned into a war zone as more black vehicles including a tank rushed from the side. Marcus and Joanne looked in disbelief, hoping this was by far the worst welcome the Kraz¡¯ox got this day, but deep down they knew it wasn¡¯t. 8. Million Questions The battle in Central Park lasted only a few minutes as more alien reinforcements came. The anti-alien hate group got completely wiped and unfortunately, some soldiers died in the process. It turned out that the General that greeted the Aliens shared the hate group¡¯s opinions and gave the order to attack the aliens as well. Luckily for everyone included, someone in the chain of command ordered soldiers to stop shooting at the aliens and help with the hate group, even though aliens had that completely under control. None of the Kraz¡¯ox got injured in the skirmish and the disgraced general got arrested when the skirmish ended. A Lieutenant by the name of William that took command over the battle and saved the soldier¡¯s life in the process explained what happened to Kraz¡¯ox after a short period they allowed the military to deal with the disgraced General as they didn¡¯t deem it important enough. The situation in the park calmed down completely and the military regained some control, but by the time they did, the huge civilian crowd already gathered around the aliens. Two of the Kraz¡¯ox in robes came forward and gestured something with their hands, apparently Kraz¡¯ox gesture to calm down, before one of them began speaking. ¡°Greetings Humans, it¡¯s nice to finally meet you in person. We apologize for the destruction,¡± The Alien spoke with a soft tone in perfect English. ¡°We monitored the situation on Earth since our broadcast and we expected isolated incidents like these. They happened on several landing spots but we can assure you now civilians died.¡± The crowd was silent all eyes on the two Aliens. Marcus and Joanna with the help of her badge got themselves to the front row. Marcus now had a clear view of the aliens in robes. Their skin looked gentle and soft, and their gestures looked not that different than humans. ¡°More ships will be landing later today and tomorrow on various points on Earth in order to help us with your training and integration.¡± The Violet Alien continued. ¡°What training?¡± Someone from the crowd yelled. ¡°We are going to train you in several areas, from building jump drives, spaceships, and battlesuits to space combat depending on your skills and we are going to slowly integrate you into our coalition.¡± The Alien answered. ¡°And do we have a choice?¡± The same voice yelled from the crowd. ¡°Not really, but not because of us, we would have given you a choice if we found you in normal times. But I am afraid the Anoi¡¯s, the aliens that docked and destroyed your ISS, will not give you one. When they come back, and they will sooner or later, they are going to enslave you to work the dirty jobs their citizens don¡¯t want to and use your planet and its resources to the fullest until nothing is left.¡± The Alien answered in a calm voice once again. ¡°And how can we trust you?¡± A woman in the front row asked a question now. ¡°How do we know you are not the bad guys?¡± ¡°I am afraid you will need to have some faith as you humans say,¡± The answered and something like a smile appeared on its face. ¡°We believe we are on the right side of this conflict, but everyone believes that when they are fighting a war. You will have all the necessary information in the upcoming days that will make things more clear.¡± Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon. ¡°But why us?¡± Marcus couldn¡¯t contain his curiosity anymore. ¡°Why would you need our help?¡± ¡°I am going to be blunt with you, there is nothing special about you humans, but there are many of you on this little planet. The war took a toll on most species on both sides, and manpower is in highest demand now.¡± The alien answered. More people from the crowd started interrupting asking different questions and the Alien gave pretty descriptive answers to all of them. Some ten minutes later another alien wearing the same robe came and whispered something to the one that was speaking. ¡°That will be all for today,¡± The alien yelled over the crowd. ¡°We are going to set up a camp here, and as I said more ships will be landing shortly. We are going to broadcast our instructions in the upcoming days to where you should report and so on. Go to your homes now, you are entering a new era.¡± The crowd started muttering, some yelled more questions but most started dispersing. Marcus and Joanne left the park and went back to the 13th precinct where they collected their impressions of today¡¯s events. ¡°There is something really offputting about these aliens,¡± Marcus said ¡°Could be that they are just that, aliens,¡± Joanne answered. ¡°Could be, but the way they are presenting things, the way they easily killed those anti-alien guys and made no big deal out of it, the way they are putting things like they are giving us the choice when they really aren¡¯t, it doesn¡¯t look good for us,¡± Marcus added with a worried look on his face. ¡°Yea you are probably right,¡± Joanne added while fiddling with her badge. ¡°What are you going to do now?¡± ¡°I am going to my parents, to be with my family, I hoped to get some answers here but we almost died. So I am going to be with them and wait like everyone else.¡± Marcus answered and hugged Joanne goodbye. ********** Anoi battleship was still being hauled by the Qhiks armada towards one of the inner planets. Anoi¡¯s were nervous, Azcrawford kept trying to regain control of the ship, and Qhiks warned them two additional times last time with a direct threat that it would be the last warning. The ISS crew used the time to rest, there was nothing else to do and they haven¡¯t slept in god knows how long. James couldn¡¯t fall asleep but he used the time to clear his mind as best as he could. He went over the events in his head trying to look for the details he missed, to make this all clearer for himself but there was nothing he missed, the truth was they were no more than ants that stumbled upon a spaceship and everything was happening out of their control. As they approached the biggest planet, Qhiks contacted the ship again with instructions. ¡°We will teleport ten humans to our home planet,¡± The voice said. ¡°You will need to stand still in a small area in order for us to teleport you without any complications.¡± ¡°What about us?¡± Azcrawford asked. ¡°The Anoi¡¯s are to stay on the ship,¡± The voice answered. ¡°We need to talk to humans alone first.¡± Azcrawford wasn¡¯t happy with the answering, James could see that much, but there wasn¡¯t anything else he could do. The ISS crew decided between each other which ten people would go. James, Chloe, and Meng were the obvious choices and they took seven more volunteers including Eric, who was the first one to spot the Anoi ship. Some minutes later the Qhiks instructed them to stand still and that the teleportation would happen in 30 seconds. They hurdled into a small circle looking between each other for comfort and security, but their eyes betrayed them, each and every one of the astronauts was scared, with a little bit of excitement pouring out. James¡¯ vision went black for a brief second and he found himself along with his Crew under a sky that was a mix between green and blue, with two suns and the mega structures around them clearly visible. ¡°Welcome, humans,¡± The same Qhiks voice from the ship greeted them. ¡°To our home planet, you will be meeting us soon.¡± 9. The History of the Universe ¡°What are you?¡± James said to the creature ahead of him. The creature appeared out of the tin air moments after they teleported to the platform. It was twice as high as the average human and bulky. Its skin, or what resembled skin as it was interconnected with the armor and other mechanisms, was a smooth inky black color. The head was not proportional to the massive size of the alien creature, it was smaller, comparable to the human head, and instead of hair, it had short tentacle-like extensions that moved on its own. The head was decorated with a bright orange set of eyes. Behind the creature, dozens of tentacles with orange orbs at their tips danced as it moved toward them. ¡°We are the Qhiks,¡± The alien said with a commanding voice, sounding a lot deeper than over the comms of the Anoi ship. ¡°Come follow me, we will explain everything.¡± The alien said and turned around. The creature moved and looked way too agile for its size and walked with a and it walked in such a style that it caused awe to the ISS crew. The scenery they walked by was beyond breathtaking. The trees were ablaze with hundreds of different vibrant colors, the frass was a mix of green and blue, similar to the sky. Little animals that resembled squires but had popped in and out of the forest, dancing between trees. They followed the alien for no more than five minutes before reaching the magnificent-looking building. The building was a pure almost shining white color, made out of a material that looked like a stone. The doors were made for Qhiks and made the astronauts look and feel tiny in comparison. Once inside they were greeted by several more Qhiks that led them to a huge room that had a giant table in the middle. The aliens offered them seats around the table. ¡°Ever since we got a readout that you were on the Anoi ship we scanned and studied everything about you. You need water to survive, luckily for you so do we, and we are going to get you some right away. Regarding the food, we can¡¯t get you the food that would suit your digestive system, but we can make a substitute that will have to work until you get back to earth,¡± One of the aliens that welcomed them said. ¡°So you are not going to kill us all? We are going to go back to earth?¡± James asked. ¡°No we are not going to kill you, you can relax,¡± The alien answered. ¡°Take a seat and we will explain everything.¡± The ten astronauts took the seats around the table looking ridiculous on the oversized chairs. One of the Qhiks brought them water shortly after in glasses made out of a material they never felt in their hands before. ¡°Why are we here?¡± Chloe broke the silence as most of them were still gulping the water. ¡°Right to the business, as you humans would say,¡± The bulky alien said. ¡°Before we start, my name is Uussils and,¡± pointing toward another Qhiks ¡°Its name is Vulirls, he will get you up to speed.¡± ¡°Where do you want me to start?¡± Vulirls asked Uussils. ¡°Start from the beginning,¡± Chloe cut them off. ¡°We are tired, scared, terrified, we woke up one morning not knowing if we were alone in the universe and now there are more advanced species than we can count and things get more complicated and complex every second.¡± ¡°We have time,¡± Uussils said and did a gesture towards Vulirls with her tentacles that in Qhiks culture must have meant approval. ¡°So I will start from the beginning, then we will get to the point,¡± The large alien said. ¡°Eons ago four intelligent species evolved on four different sides of the universe.¡± ¡°And you are one of those species?¡± James couldn¡¯t contain his curiosity. ¡°Ohh, no we are not,¡± The alien almost chuckled. ¡°But we were created by one of them, the Ellads they were called.¡± ¡°What do you mean created?¡± James asked. ¡°We thought we evolved on our own as do you, but the truth is that evolution to the point of intelligent life that can travel the universe is extremely rare, so rare that we still believe that only those four original civilizations evolved on their own, and the rest of us were aided by them.¡± Vulirls continued. ¡°By the time we discovered all that we were already capable of using hyper jumps and in war with two other races that were similarly developed. We only found out because we stumbled onto Ellads home planet and discovered all that was left by them. Their technology and other advancements are what helped us make the next leap in our evolution and in that process we became immortal. You can kill us, yes, but on our own, we can live to the end of time.¡± ¡°What happened to Ellads? Where are they?¡± James asked. ¡°We don¡¯t know, we have some theories, but we couldn¡¯t find a living soul out of those four original races, Ellads, Illdrel, Onnid, and Enphill, the Founders we call them¡± Vulirls answered. ¡°But we weren¡¯t the only lucky ones that stumbled onto the Founder¡¯s planets and technology. We were in a three-way war at the time versus Ekzin and the alliance between Quex¡¯uth and Astor. The Astors are extinct.¡± ¡°You kill them all, the Astors I mean?¡± James asked shifting uncomfortably in the chair. ¡°Ohh, no. We were savages back then, destroyed and killed a lot but never whole planets, never to the point of extinction, we fought for supremacy, territory, and so on, not purely to kill. What deleted them from existence is the reason there is no more war between us and why we are idle for a long time now.¡± The alien said. ¡°What is it?¡± Chloe chimed in. ¡°You saw our gate, you saw our ships so you must have seen the orange matter has been there. We call it the source because the Ellads called it that, they were the ones that found it according to their records and our ability to understand them. That orange matter is the way they created us, and you, that¡¯s one of the things we wanted to tell you Humans, and one of the reasons we brought you here after scanning that Anoi ship, you are a direct descendant of Ellads, only known living direct descendant besides us. That makes us connected on a deeper level¡± Vulirls said. Uussils walked around the table and shocked humans and activated a HOLOGRAM, that showed the hierarchy of the alien races according to Qhiks.
¡°You want to tell me we are the same as you, in what way, shape or form does that make sense?¡± James asked. ¡°We are not the same, and you evolved much later it would seem, but we came from the same seed, that¡¯s how they called it, Ellads had one formula for creating life. They would send a seed to a planet that could contain life at one point in its future, and only a small percentage of those seeds came to be. Most of them failed, some civilizations arose and destroyed themselves, and some never became space nations and died on their planet, some did and vanished into space and there are probably still some seeds on some planets that never activated. As you can see on the hologram we, the Ekzin, Quex¡¯uth, and Astors continued their work, but not anymore, not after what happened to the Astors.¡± ¡°This is way too confusing, holy shit,¡± James said and the rest of the astronauts confirmed. ¡°Anoi¡¯s are descendants of your enemies?¡± Meng asked and the giant alien confirmed it with what seemed like a nod as he pointed toward the hologram with one of his tentacles. ¡°So what happened to the Astors, can you elaborate and stop being mysterious?¡± Chloe asked. ¡°It¡¯s hard to describe the Source to you at this stage of your evolution and knowledge, but to put it in simplistic terms its one of the essences of the universe that can manipulate space and that¡¯s how we made the gates, create life that¡¯s how we and you came to be, be used as a power source and so on. At the time we thought it was the only thing in the universe, but we were so wrong, like most things in the universe there is always some form of balance, and we found it in the worst way possible. The thing we called Void, the essence that seeks out Source and devours it and everything it touches. The void was dormant for who knows how long and it came alive as four of us used the Source and the more we used it the bigger the Void and its hunger became.¡± The bulky alien made a short pause and took a sip of water. This narrative has been purloined without the author''s approval. Report any appearances on Amazon. ¡°We first noticed some of our ships going missing,¡± Vulirls continued. ¡°And we thought it was our enemies, but then their ships started disappearing, then theirs and our colonies and at that point, we all retreated to our safest points and our original Solar Systems. We watched each other closely and then we saw it, the Void coming out of nowhere into one of the Asters colonies ravaging everything ahead of itself and leaving no trace behind. One of their ships took the gate to their original solar system and the Void followed and that was the end of it, Asters were no more.¡± ¡°Fucking hell,¡± James said. ¡°I thought things couldn¡¯t get any crazier. How come that Void didn¡¯t destroy the rest of you?¡± ¡°Once it devoured Astors it calmed down but as soon as we used the Source to create more things it came back attacking and devouring again. So ever since then, we haven¡¯t used the source again to create anything, we haven¡¯t left the safe space of our own solar system and dozen colonized ones, and we used to have thousands of them, we left them all behind and made our best to hide the existing source. Ekzin and Quex¡¯uth did the same.¡± ¡°Ok, I¡¯ll say we get it, even though this all seems insane and like we are telling the ants about the discovery of the AI, but what does any of this have to do with us?¡± James asked Vulirls. ¡°We will need your help, we couldn¡¯t ask Anoi, Kraz¡¯ox, or any other from their coalitions, first of all, they are not one of our sibling races but that¡¯s not even that important, and second of all and more importantly we suspect that the Ekzin and Quex¡¯uth already got them, I mean Anoi and Kraz¡¯ox,¡± Vulirls said. ¡°We can¡¯t leave our systems as I said, our bodies are bonded with the Source, if we came to your system we would risk awakening the Void once again and destroying your system and ours as well. So when the Anoi ship jumped into our colony we were about to destroy it as we thought they came under the guidance of the Ekzin, but then we saw you and took the opportunity to get you here. We need our own player in this game¡± ¡°You want to use us as a proxy for your war?¡± Chloe asked ¡°No, not really, you will keep an eye on them and be our eyes and ears in the space, but once you assimilate and learn to roam the space we can work together to find a solution to stop and destroy the Void.¡± ¡°How do you know we are not working for the enemy already?¡± James asked. ¡°When took control of the Anoi ship we saw all their footage, we know how they stumbled on your planet and that they are your first contact with alien life.¡± ¡°Makes sense,¡± James added. ¡°But how can we even help, we can barely get to the closest planet in our system. And to make things worse as we left with the Anoi the Kraz¡¯ox ships came around the Earth, God knows what¡¯s happening there, that is if Earth even exists still.¡± Chloe said. ¡°You don¡¯t need God to know that,¡± Vulirls said changing the expression of his stoic face to something resembling a smile and the hologram shifted to what seemed Earth with hundreds of ships around it. ¡°We can see your Earth and it¡¯s fine, the Kraz¡¯ox did land on your planet but they will not destroy it, they need manpower most likely.¡± ¡°Ok but that still doesn¡¯t explain how could we possibly help? What are we going to do? They just move back behind the mars and we can¡¯t even reach them¡ And how will we even get home from here?¡± James asked visibly frustrated. ¡°No need to get angry human, what is your name I never asked?¡± Vulirls said. ¡°It¡¯s James, what does my name have to do with anything?¡± ¡°See James,¡± Vulirls continued. ¡°We have thought of almost everything, I know this all must be overwhelming, but you stumbling upon us is the best thing that could have happened?¡± ¡°Anoi said the similar thing, I am guessing the Kraz¡¯ox did the same on Earth. I am sensing a pattern here¡¡± James said. ¡°Fair enough, but as you can see we are as open as we can, we told you everything, we are far superior to both of those races, but still I understand this all must feel crazy, we felt similarly when we found out about Ellards, we thought we were top of the universe but then we found out not only we were not, but we were made by one of the races. You find yourself in the middle of two coalitions going head to head and now a third party needs your help. But trust us, if you help us you will get yourself out of this situation as well if we get rid of the Void, no one will ever touch you again and we will share all of our technology with you.¡± Vulirls added. ¡°Yeah, fine¡¡± James sighed. ¡°How could we actually help what¡¯s your plan.¡± ¡°What we thought was¡¡± Uussils jumped into the conversation. ¡°We can¡¯t give you any of our ships obviously without the fear of attracting the Void, even if we didn¡¯t, the Ekxin and Quex¡¯uth would eventually find out and we would risk all-out war once again.¡± ¡°Makes sense,¡± Chloe rejoined the conversation. ¡°So what then?¡± ¡°We will have to use Anoi ship to get you back.¡± ¡°They will never accept that, we barely escaped¡¡± Chloe said. ¡°Unfortunately, they will have no choice,¡± Uussils responded. ¡°We will make few of them, or however many of them are needed to fly the ship back and keep the rest of the prisoners, only once they deliver you to earth, we will let them go.¡± ¡°Won¡¯t Kraz¡¯ox just shot us down once we enter the solar system once again?¡± Chloe asked. ¡°You will tell them that you hijacked the ship to come back home and that you have a few Anoi for them as prisoners and their ship as a gift,¡± Uussils answered. ¡°Won¡¯t they just kill them?¡± James chimed in. ¡°That¡¯s the chance we will have to take, hopefully, they don¡¯t, but the deaths of a few Anoi won¡¯t make difference in the grand scheme of things, thousands of them died in the last battle before they came to Earth,¡± Uussils said without a hint of hesitation, they were obviously didn¡¯t care for Anoi life at all, so Anoi fears were justified. ¡°But then what? What can we do to help if we manage to get back to Earth unscathed?¡± Meng had questions of his own. ¡°Best is to play along with Kraz¡¯ox, we will give you schematics, plans, and everything you need to make a fleet of your own with technology more advanced than anyone in those two coalitions. But you will have to build it in secret somehow, you will have to play it smart and find people on Earth you trust.¡± Uussils continued with the plan. ¡°We will give you means of contact with us, if Earth ever gets in serious trouble or any of them threaten with mass destruction we will find a way to help you even if we have to come ourselves risking the wrath of the Void, but as I said you will have to play it smart. Once you find trust-worthy people on earth and establish a base of operations we will start to make the next moves, for now, let¡¯s get you back home safely.¡± The conversation continued for almost an hour more, astronauts asked questions and the Qhiks had all the answers, it to the ISS crew like they were fully prepared. Sometime later they brought them pills as substitutes for food, ensuring them these pills would give their bodies everything they need to function properly for weeks with just one pill. The astronauts took the pills, it¡¯s not like they had much choice, they haven¡¯t eaten in days and there was no food in sight. As the conversation finished, Uussils took them on a tour of the planet. Explaining along the way that this was their home planet before they became a space nation and that the planet now was more like a big museum or one big national park as they tried to keep it as original as it was at the point when they left for stars. The architecture of builds was similar to earth in the sense they build tall buildings to house as many people as possible, but that¡¯s where the similarities stopped. They built them out of the white stone-like material arnd the building rarely had any windows, they all looked like fortresses. The nature of the planet was fascinating, along the way they came across multiple animals, all had bright colors for their fur or skin and none of them were big then your average cat. Uussils explained they had wild animals much bigger than them but non on this continent. Eric asked questions about the massive constructions around the sun and how come all the planets seemed like they had life. Uussils explained they built Dyson Sphere with help of the Source and then spread that energy across the solar system to all ten planets with help of the huge platforms across the system and beside each planet. The platforms took in the energy and gave each planet light and heat as much as they needed in order to make the atmosphere as similar to the home planet as possible. After they finished the tour they came back to the huge building where the meeting was held. By the time they came back they transported the rest of the Astronauts and the Anoi down to the planet and kept them in separate rooms. James could tell by the look on their faces that they were all briefed on the information they received. Vulirls called James, Meng, and Chloe, as he thought they were the leaders of the Crew. ¡°The Anoi have agreed, four of them are needed to fly the ship and they will drive you back to the planet. The rest of them will wait here and once they deliver you we will let them go. They are aware that they will most likely be enprisoned by the Kraz¡¯ox but are willing to take the risk.¡± Vulirls told them. ¡°But won¡¯t the rest of them just tell the Ekzin what you¡¯ve done here?¡± James said. ¡°That we are helping you now.¡± ¡°They don¡¯t know that, we told them we are protecting the undeveloped civilizations from the touch of those far above them and that we will deal with Kraz¡¯ox later if they start to misuse their power on Earth,¡± Vulirls answered. ¡°Don¡¯t worry about that.¡± James nodded and they went to the rest of the crew that initially stayed back on the ship. The three of them told them about the plans and the parts that the Qhiks might have left out. Some of them have similar worries to the original ten, but they all came to a conclusion they really had no choice if they wanted to get back to earth. A short time after, the Qhiks brought the four Anoi that were about to take them home, Azcrawford wasn¡¯t among them and Uussils took James, Chloe, and Meng to the side once again. She gave them what seemed like an external hard disk explaining that it contained all the necessary information on how to build their fleet and other technology and medical advances they would need to get themselves on the space map. She explained that our computers should be able to read them without much problem. She gave them a device that the Qhiks would eventually use to contact them down the road. Qhiks wished them good luck and teleported thirty-five astronauts and four Anoi up to the ship. Apparently, they used the time the Astronauts were down on the planet to patch up the Anoi ship to the point where it would work enough to get them back to earth, but not look fully fixed to the point where Kraz¡¯ox would be suspicious. The Qhiks¡¯ ships escorted them out of the Gate and back to the original position they intercepted them, wished them luck over the comms, and went back into their own solar system. James stood tall looking out of the window thinking to himself that maybe this all was meant to be, that he was meant to spend his life in space and help humans off the planet. 10. The University of Kraz鈥檕x Marcus spent two days with his family, playing with the kids, eating barbeque, and enjoying the company of everyone around. He almost forgot about the ongoing invasion, occupation, or liberation however people phrased it these past few days, and everyone had their own opinion. After putting his kids to sleep he opened a cold beer with his brother John on their parent¡¯s porch. They spent a few minutes in silence before Marcus¡¯s phone rang, it was his boss calling for the third time in the past hour. ¡°Hello,¡± Marcus answered. ¡°Why aren¡¯t you picking up?¡± His boss asked. ¡°I am spending time with my family, I am not checking my phone, what is it?¡± Marcus asked. ¡°Military and Kraz¡¯ox have finally set up everything and they reached out to us among others, and they want you here in New York, Central Park, tomorrow morning,¡± He said. ¡°Call up your team, they are going to start teaching you their technology slowly, and you are going to help organize information, schedules, and so on for the upcoming draft.¡± ¡°What if I say no?¡± Marcus asked. ¡°I don¡¯t think any of us have a choice,¡± The boss answered. ¡°I believe the army would come for you, you don¡¯t want to put your family through that.¡± ¡°Fine, I¡¯ll be there in the morning,¡± Marcus said and hang up. ¡°What was that about?¡± His brother asked him. ¡°Nothing good,¡± Marcus answered and went inside to find his wife. He told Ella what his boss just basically ordered him, and as he suspected she didn¡¯t agree with it. She wanted him to stay here and be with his family. He wanted that as well, but being isolated here made him even more nervous. Being in the center of things he might have some additional information, and he may be able to help his family through whatever was happening. He explained to her that he really didn¡¯t have a choice and they already knew where he was, so if he didn¡¯t show up, the military would come up for him and that it would be best not to scare kids even further. She reluctantly agreed and made him promise he would take care of himself and call her every hour so she could be sure that he is fine. When the morning rolled around Marcus kissed his kids goodbye, telling them he had a work emergency and he would be back soon. His parents and everyone else wished him luck and he found himself on the road. Now that the aliens were already on the ground the situation with looters, protestors, and hate groups didn¡¯t calm down all that much, but the military did get some form of control now that they were sure the aliens didn¡¯t want to murder everyone. Kraz¡¯ox instructed them to keep order and peace as much as they could and so by the look of the roads and towns along the way, they were getting better. Arriving in New York he was met with several rings of check-ups, showing his id was enough to go thru as he was apparently on the list of people that were supposed to arrive this morning. It wasn¡¯t possible to get as close to the central park with the car as three days ago as the military put concrete barricades several blocks further, he would have to continue on foot. Arriving at the park he was greeted by a soldier that would escort him to a tent where he was supposed to be briefed. On their way to the tent, it felt like millions of people buzzed past him, the park was busy with soldiers, police officers, and a few civilians here and there. Reaching the tent he saw his boss standing outside with one of his co-workers, they waved at him and he approached them the soldier leaving his side and going back to escort new arrivals. ¡°Hello Marcus,¡± His boss said. ¡°How was your drive?¡± ¡°It went surprisingly smooth,¡± He answered. ¡°What are we doing here?¡± ¡°Don¡¯t know, but we are getting briefed in ten minutes.¡± He answered but Marcus¡¯s gaze wandered away. He looked behind the tent and what were three same Kraz¡¯ox ships three days ago, and now there were more than twenty ships of different sizes and looks, some as small as a car. The aliens also made what he assumed was their type of tends, but they didn¡¯t have construction it seemed like the roofs and the sides were hovering in the air, held by the invisible hand from above. He was snapped out of his gaze by a commotion of people approaching the tent. One of the soldiers nudged them inside the tent and they walked in. More than thirty people were already inside standing around the edges of the tent as the inside was empty espect two small tables and several chairs. Several soldiers and high-ranking officers walked in the ones inside saluting them, others, including Marcus, looked around confused. ¡°Hello, my name is Lieutenant William Grant,¡° He said, Marcus recognized him from three days ago, he was the one that saved the whole situation. ¡±I was put in charge of this region by the military and Kraz¡¯ox in order to ensure secure and painless integration of these two species.¡° He said looking visibly nervous, Marcus assumed he had a fright of public speeches. This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there. ¡°What are we doing here?¡± One of the civilians asked. ¡°I am going to explain everything, please be patient we will leave questions for the end.¡± He said. William spoke for almost twenty minutes explaining how Kraz¡¯ox couldn¡¯t commit large amounts of people on earth in order to teach us everything they now, so the people here would be learning firsthand from the Kraz¡¯ox in the upcoming weeks, and then they would relay their knowledge to the rest. In every major region, similar meetings were held where top people from their respective fields including Physicists, Astronomers, Programmers, Doctors, Engineers, and others would be assigned to Kraz¡¯ox tents where they would be thought the gists of their fields. Kraz¡¯ox plan was to make earth their working force, starting with simpler jobs at the beginning like creating some weapons, chips, manufacturing food, and parts for battles suits, to more complex later on like making hyperspace drivers and the warships themselves. For now, humans would not be called directly into the battle, but the military was going to start training their soldiers in special chambers, and virtual reality in order to get the gists of space combat. In return, humanity would get many benefits from huge medical advancements, military weapons, ability to manufacture protein-rich food from almost nothing to eventually space travel. After Lieutenant Grant was done with his speech, people barraged him with questions, he tried to answer them, but Marcus knew the Lieutenant himself didn¡¯t know the real answers for most of them as he evaded them the best he could. After the questions were done soldiers gave ID cards and written instructions to all the civilians. The instructions were simple, they said who to report on the human side on the progress, and to which Kraz¡¯ox tent to report in order to start with the learning process. Marcus was assigned to tent 7, a technology and communication tent and he was supposed to report there in an hour. Marcus was offered free accommodation in one of the local hotels with the ability to ring his family here. He called Ella and told her everything that happened so far, and together they made a decision it was best if she and the kids stay with his parents far away from the city if any of the hate groups decide to attack again. Marcus spent his time before he needed to report to Kraz¡¯ox, walking around the park trying to relax and clear his mind. He called Joanna to check if she was near, but she didn¡¯t answer, so he sent her a text to call him later. He stumbled onto a tent that had coffee and gladly accepted one and after he was finished with it his clock showed that he had 5 minutes before he needed to report. Before he could enter the Kraz¡¯ox part of the park where their tents were set he needed to pass another ring of security. He showed his ID card that he revised earlier and the soldier pointed him to a tent with the number seven. He walked past several Kraz¡¯ox that didn¡¯t seem to pay attention to him, walking this close to aliens felt surreal. Seeing them first on-screen and then from a distance three days ago was a totally different feeling, now he could see all their details that added to their physique. They were all similar in height to humans, and similar builds, but their violet-looking skin was off-putting this up close. There was also their scent, they didn¡¯t smell particularly bad or good, but it was the unfamiliar smell that played with his mind. Enter tent 7 he recognized several faces that he saw regularly at summits. He found his Boss Mark, and a co-worker he rarely spoke to, only knowing his last name Smith. The tent was white, its walls that hovered from above were made from a material that Marcus has never seen before, and the surface was smooth and almost glowing. The tent had a machine in the middle that had a green glow to it and alien markings all around. ¡°This is thrilling,¡± Mark said. ¡°I would lie if I said it wasn¡¯t,¡± Marcus answered. Minutes later three Kraz¡¯ox walked in, two wearing the long robes and one, he assumed for security, in full battle armor. They walked to the middle of the tent towards the machine and one of the aliens in a robe pressed a combination of keys activating the machine. The corners of the tent started glowing green pointing to the center of the ceiling and a hologram shot from the center down towards the machine. The smooth white walls of the tent also came alive with multiple screens on them. ¡°Welcome humans,¡± The other alien in the robe said. ¡°My name is Uox and today we will go over the basics and our plan for you in the upcoming weeks.¡± They stayed in the tent for over three hours, Uox spoke in a pleasant and calm tone. He didn¡¯t focus on teaching them anything today but rather focused more on the history of their technology, how advanced they are now, what they would be learning, how they communicate, how their machines and computers work, and so on. He gave them a schedule, two shifts of five hours of lectures each day starting from tomorrow. After the meeting, Marcus checked his phone and he had several missed calls from Joanne and a few others. He called his wife first telling her of the meeting, what he saw, and how Kraz¡¯ox looked from up close, he spoke with the kids a little on the video call before hanging up. After that, he returned the calls to Joanne who picked up this time and they agreed to meet in his hotel for drinks. The hotel bar was surprisingly full, most of the people he saw in the park today were there drinking, eating some food, and chatting. Two of them drank several beers and talked about the last few days. Joanna was now tasked with patrolling the streets of manhattan and keeping an eye for any hate-group gatherings, police now worked in two 12-hour shifts and it showed on her face. Marcus enter his room sometime after 10 and was beyond tired. He called Ella one more time before going to bed and quickly fell asleep after the call. The next two days were the same, they learned a lot about the way alien technology worked, and how they used faster than light communications, what their programming languages were, how advanced their AI was. Some things made sense right away and some were completely sci-fi worthy to Marcus, but his interest was peaked, he found himself grinning several times like when he was a young kid destroying his father¡¯s laptop in order to make it work ¡°faster¡± or finishing the first successful project. He constantly asked Uox questions, which he encouraged, and he found himself speaking with him more often than humans in the past two days. Their second lecture of the second day was nearing the end when loud alarms started blasting through the camp and Kraz¡¯ox started yelling in their own language. As they left the tent almost all smaller Kraz¡¯ox ships were already in airborne and gunning toward the sky. ¡°What¡¯s this about?¡± Marcus asked Uox. ¡°Anoi ship just appeared next to the moon,¡± He answered looking at the sky. 11. Welcome Home Qhiks ships hauled them through the gate back into Milky Way galaxy to the spot they intercepted them after they escaped the Kraz¡¯ox and destroyed the ISS in the process. The four Anoi on the ship didn¡¯t talk much, they barely answered the ISS crew¡¯s questions and kept to themselves. James wondered if Azcrawford was the chatty one or if the Anoi were frustrated by the situation, either way, that was not something he would dwell on this trip. They had more important things to worry about, from how to not get shot once they enter the Solar System to how to find trustworthy people and convince them of what Qhiks have said. The Anoi explained that the initial jump from the solar system to Qhiks territory was uncontrolled at almost the maximum distance, so the way back would take them five controlled jumps with the cooling period between them. So the crew had almost two days before they arrive back on earth. They used that time to finally get some sleep. James found himself unable to sleep with everything going on, so he spent most of his time amongst Anoi and getting to know newer Astronauts that he didn¡¯t have time to familiarize with before the Anoi arrived and everything spiraled out of control. ¡°Did you get some sleep in?¡± James stumbled onto Chloe in the hallway leading towards the Hangar. ¡°Yeah, some,¡± She answered. ¡°You still can¡¯t sleep?¡± She asked him. ¡°Not really, but I got some rest with my eyes open earlier, I¡¯ll be fine¡¡± He said. ¡°Have the Anoi said anything?¡± She asked. ¡°Not really, they are still keeping to themselves. They only answer with yes or no or just downright ignore me when I ask them questions.¡± James said. ¡°I just hope they don¡¯t fuck us over once we get to Earth.¡± The deal they made with Anoi was a simple one. Once they do the last jump and appear in the Solar System, the Anoi would activate communication systems towards the Kraz¡¯ox, and then they would step down and surrender to Kraz¡¯ox once they board them. James also used all the time they had to familiarise himself with the Anoi suits, learning its functions and capabilities. The suits had battle capabilities but that was not their main function, the suits were more focused on communication with the ship making it easier to fly the massive spacecraft, they also had thrusters for if you needed to go out of the space without a tether. After the fourth jump ship¡¯s drive needed five more hours before they could jump towards the solar system right next to the Moon as previously agreed. The crew gathered one more time in Hangar to get their stories straight, there was no doubt in their minds that Kraz¡¯ox¡¯s were going to believe them just like that. They were sure that they would be interrogated separately, the Qhiks warned them of that as well. The time before the final jump went by in the blink of an eye and the, now familiar, nervousness and the feeling of uncertainty came back. James, Chloe, Meng, and four others went to the command room to be with the four Anoi that flew the ship, and the rest of the ISS crew stayed behind in the hangar. Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site. ¡°Are you ready Humans?¡± One of the Anoi, who introduced himself as Tracords asked. ¡°Ready,¡± James asked looking at Chloe and Meng who nodded in agreement. The drive initiated, their vision went black for a second and they appeared right next to the Moon. As soon as they did the spaceship¡¯s alarms started blasting. ¡°The communications are on Human, you can broadcast to Kraz¡¯ox,¡± Tracords said and James swallowed a lump in his throat and started talking. ****** Youx never planned to join the Army but was forced with the draft once Kraz¡¯ox started experiencing huge losses some three years ago. He was yet to see battle and spent most of his time escorting colony and mining ships between coalitions solar systems and planets. Now he found himself above this beautiful blue planet called Earth populated by the so-called humans that looked oddly similar to them. He welcomed this job: staying in orbit above the planet, patrolling the small region for any signs of intruders. He was supposed to spend two weeks patroling then he would be allowed to land and relax for a few days before getting back into space. Youx was always curious about new worlds and species they held, the smell of the new atmosphere, and the wonders the universe can create never got old. This was an oddly developed world on the brink of the ability to space travel, those were very rare, you either encountered a planet in the early development or way past its prime. He ate his morning rations, drank a cup of Swui, extract from a plant Swuidron, to wake himself up, and started his patrol. Their intel told them the chances Anoi and their coalition commit any forces to this sector were almost 0, but still, a job was a job, and he was going to do it. He made his way around the moon and not even a quarterback his sensors started blaring. His radar showed Anoi ship right next to the moon, where he passed some ten minutes ago. Turning the ship around he could see the huge ship with his own eyes, the Anoi battleship, by the damage it had all over he concluded it must have been the same one that escaped Solar System some days ago. ¡°Youx to command,¡± He yelled. ¡°The Anoi ship just appeared next to the moon.¡± ¡°Copy that,¡± Command answered some seconds later. ¡°Keep an eye on them but don¡¯t engage it¡¯s a full-on battle cruiser it can destroy you easily, we are sending backup right away.¡± The command said and cut off their transmission. He flew his ship in a wide circle keeping his distance, ignoring all the blaring and beeping that was happening in his cockpit. Finally checking his display he saw that the Anoi ship was hailing him. He reluctantly opened the channel. ¡°This is James Barnes speaking, part of the ISS crew that was taken hostage by Anoi. We commandeered their ship and found our way home. Do not shoot at us, we are humans, we have four prisoners.¡± The message over the radio said and kept repeating itself several times before Youx snapped out. ¡°Youx to Command,¡± He quickly contacted his command. ¡°I¡¯ve received a broadcast from their ship, it¡¯s humans, they are saying they have control over the ship and found their way back.¡± He said and forwarded the message from the Anoi ship to the command. ¡°Roger that Youx, still keep your distance until we confirm the authenticity of the message,¡± Command answered. He spent the next ten minutes doing the same circular motion and watching his sensors if the Anoi ship was targeting him before the backup arrived. The command sent almost all available ships forming a huge armada next to him. It took them more than an hour to safely confirm that humans were in fact in control of the Anoi ship. They did additional checks and rounds in order to make sure it wasn¡¯t some kind of a trap or a distraction. With caution and more ships approaching and forming a perimeter around the Anoi ship they first extracted the four Anoi prisoners and sent them directly to their command battleship that was still above the earth. Sometime later they boarded the human astronauts in two smaller transport ships and he found himself escorting one of them down to earth, to their base in Central Park, New York, he would see Earth sooner than anticipated. 12. Back on Earth ¡°We didn¡¯t get shot down on sight,¡± James said. ¡°So we can call this a success,¡± Chloe smiled. He found himself with Chloe, Eric, and fifteen others in the Kraz¡¯ox transport ship gunning towards Earth. James overheard that they were supposed to land in Central Park out of all places for some reason. ¡°Yeah,¡± Chloe said with a sigh. ¡°But that was an easy part, the hard part begins now.¡± Jammes nodded and shifted in his seat, looking around the small transport ship his eyes darted towards Four Kraz¡¯ox who guarded them in a small room with two benches at each side where all the astronauts were sitting. They were not bound, but the Kraz¡¯ox was pretty straightforward that they are going to be interrogated and kept a close eye on until this situation resolves and they explain how they managed to capture the Anoi ship, something Kraz¡¯ox was never able to, without it self-destructing in the process. The voice over the speakers said several words in Kraz¡¯ox and the guards clicked their boots which made them stick to the floor, then they grabbed nearby pools. The voice then continued in English announcing that they were about to enter the Earth¡¯s Atmosphere, and everyone should be seated and belted. The entering into Earth¡¯s Atmosphere was rough, but the landing went smooth James didn¡¯t even notice they touched the ground before Kraz¡¯ox opened the ship¡¯s door and proclaimed it was safe to remove their helmets. Removing a foreign object from their heads after days in it felt amazing. Luckily for James and the rest of the ISS crew who spent years in space, they now had state-of-the-art Anoi space suits that helped their bodies easily adapt to Earth¡¯s gravity. Krazo¡¯ox said it was best for them to leave to suits on to avoid any health complications before they give them necessary treatments. All the light on the bright sunny day was overwhelming and James felt light-headed, but he managed to push through it. They were met by a lot of Kraz¡¯ox in battle armor and a small Human-Krazo¡¯ox delegation consisting of several Kraz¡¯ox in robes and five humans including Katie Garcia, their superiors in the ISS project, she had a proud smile on her face looking at all of her astronauts safe and back on earth. ¡°Welcome home ladies and gentlemen,¡± A soldier in his mid-thirties, sweat pouring down his forehead said and came forward wearing only camouflage pants and a black t-shirt. ¡°My name is Lieutenant William Grant, sorry to welcome you back like this, but we were mid-training session when you appeared.¡± ¡°No problem, Sir,¡± James said solution to the officer, others following reluctantly. ¡°What¡¯s the deal with Kraz¡¯ox, the Anoi said they were going to occupy or destroy the Earth,¡± James asked. ¡°The Kraz¡¯ox said the same about Anoi,¡± Lieutenant William said, ¡°And they also said you helped them escape somehow and that our governments were involved and so on. But it seemed far-fetched, and luckily for you your friend Garcia over here explained that you only welcomed someone in distress and that rest of it was out of your control.¡± William swiped the sweat from his forehead. ¡°You could say it went something like that Sir,¡± James said. ¡°What happens next with us?¡± ¡°Our friends over here, let me introduce you,¡± Lieutenant William said pointing towards Kraz¡¯ox in robes standing a few feet behind him. ¡°This is Uox, Veix, Troux, Ioox and Woyx. Each of them is the head of one of their organizations. Woyx over there,¡± Lieutenant said pointing towards the tallest alien. ¡°Is their Military leader equivalent to our Generals or even higher, their military ranking system is confusing. He is going to have some questions for you, but some of the humans are going to be in a room with you, don¡¯t worry about it, just say the truth and you will be free to go in no time.¡± Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. ¡°That sounds¡ reasonable,¡± James said genuinely surprised by the situation on earth, in his mind Kraz¡¯ox were scary monsters that already completely enslaved the Earth. James and the crew were given an hour to get ready for the interviews and get something to eat, drink or rest. James used that time to call his father and tell him he was fine and back on earth. His father broke down crying, he thought James was gone for good. James felt the tears forming in the corners of his eyes, but he held them back, and after the phone call ended he pushed through it. On his way to the interview, James stumbled upon Katie who surprised him with a hug. ¡°I am so happy you are all well,¡± She said with a huge grin on her face. ¡°I just talked to Chloe and Meng they said you did really well.¡± ¡°I did my best, but Chloe really stepped up whenever the situation called for it,¡± James said. ¡°How are you, how are things going on here, this all seems surreal even tho we just traveled from to the end of the galaxy and back?¡± James asked. ¡°It was pure chaos when they first came, but the things are getting under control in the last few days, they have the technology to wipe us out in seconds probably, but so far they have been great towards us,¡± Katie said. ¡°Good, listen¡¡± James said reluctantly. ¡°After this interview or interrogation whatever it is, I need to speak with you in private.¡± ¡°Sure, what is? You can tell me anything¡¡± She said. ¡°Something crazy happened, but let¡¯s talk later, somewhere no one will be able to hear us,¡± James said before one of the soldiers called for him, it was time for the interview. ¡°You got it,¡± Katie said and James walked towards the Kraz¡¯ox ship. The interviews were happening on the Kraz¡¯ox ship, the third completely different ship in the last week or so that James was aboard if you count a few minutes Qhiks used to show them off their ships. Kraz¡¯ox ship was closer to something you could see in sci-fi movies or tv shows, with a grey minimalistic interior with few windows looking out, sliding doors, and black chairs, they had a theme it was apparent. James was led to the room with a small table in the middle and a few chairs around it. He was joined by two Kraz¡¯ox in robes and Lieutenant William. They allowed him to say his side of the story and what happened, from the day Anoi arrived until today when they arrived back in Solar System. James stuck to the story he and the crew practiced, Anoi forced them to jump away from Earth, their ship was badly damaged so they needed a few days to repair it. The crew used that time to get familiar with the Anoi suits and once they found out how to enable battle mod they easily took over the ship. Eleven of the Anoi resisted and were thrown out in the cold space, after that four remaining easily agreed to take them home. What proceeded after that was a burst of short questions from one of the Kraz¡¯ox who tried to poke a hole in his story, but James held well and was sure they bought the story. The interview lasted almost two hours and James felt exhausted. The Kraz¡¯ox were satisfied by the end and allowed him to leave freely for the night but report again tomorrow. James was escorted out of the ship, doors closing behind him and Lieutenant William following close by. ¡°James, wait up,¡± Lieutenant shouted. ¡°Come here.¡± He said pointing towards one of the human tents. Once inside he ordered everyone out. ¡°James, there is something you are hiding,¡± Lieutenant William said. ¡°The Kraz¡¯ox don¡¯t know us well to notice it, but I do, I see your little ticks, and the way you said the story, it was obviously rehearsed.¡± William looked him straight into the eyes and James felt busted. ¡°It¡¯s the whole truth,¡± James said and William nodded in dismissal. ¡°Also, one of my soldiers overheard your talk with Katie,¡± He said. ¡°She is on her way here. If there is something you need to tell her, you can trust me as well, I have only one goal in my mind right now and that¡¯s to ensure humanity¡¯s safety as best as I can.¡± One of the soldiers brought Katie a few minutes later, holding the tent door for her before leaving into the night. ¡°Can we trust him?¡± James asked bluntly pointing toward Lieutenant William. ¡°From everything, I saw these past few days and heard from other people, Lieutenant William is the best of the best and a truly good person on top of that,¡± Katie said looking at Lieutenant William, and James noticed a tiny smile forming at the edge of his lips. ¡°Fine, I am tired and a way too deep in this,¡± James said with frustration in his voice. ¡°We need a safe place to talk, so Kraz¡¯ox can¡¯t overhear us.¡± 13. On our own (Ending of "First" Part) Lieutenant William Grant chose the army to follow in his father¡¯s steps, but he quickly learned that life was not for him. Due to a lack of options, he stuck around, luckily for him, mostly on domestic soil. He was looking for other options before the Aliens arrived and now with the twist of fate, he found himself in charge of the New York region, as appointed by the Kraz¡¯ox. William took James and Katie to one of the empty military bases in the region, telling Kraz¡¯ox that the military would investigate on their own ISS crew¡¯s disappearance and sudden reemergence. To William¡¯s surprise, Kraz¡¯ox welcomed his proactivity and didn¡¯t have anything against it. Once at the baste William, on James¡¯s request, checked to make sure they weren¡¯t followed by anyone. William didn¡¯t know the range and the whole arsenal of Kraz¡¯ox equipment, but to his knowledge they were safe here, no one would be able to listen to them. James was visibly nervous, getting back to Earth was always going to be a problem for him, but getting back with all of this extra weight on his shoulders was something else, he couldn¡¯t wait to let it all out and share the burden of humanity¡¯s fate with someone else. James didn¡¯t wait long before he started spilling everything out, starting with the ISS crew¡¯s adventures with the Anoi, getting intercepted by the Qhiks, going through the gate to their original system, and everything that followed until they appeared back in Solar System. ¡°So, we are the ants, Anoi and Kraz¡¯ox are anteaters and there are even bigger predators out there who are afraid of something they don¡¯t even know what is exactly?¡° Lieutenant William said while rubbing his stubbled beard. ¡°And they want us to go after that thing, the void as you said, and explore it for them?¡± ¡°Yep,¡± James answered weight of it all finally being shared with someone outside of the ISS crew. ¡°You summed it up pretty well¡¡± ¡°And how are we supposed to do that? We can barely make it to Mars on our own?¡± Lieutenant William asked. ¡°Ohh yeah, I forgot to say, the Qhiks have given us access to their old technology, pre-transformation with source, here,¡± James said as he fished inside of the Anoi battle suit and took out a device that looked like a similar external hard drive. William took the device in his hands, but it had no holes for any adapters or cables. ¡°What do we do with it?¡± William asked. If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. ¡°I don¡¯t know, they said we would be able to open and read it, as they translated all of the contents to English, but I am no expert in technology,¡± James answered. ¡°Let me take a look,¡± Katie said and took the device from the Lieutenant¡¯s hands carefully inspecting it. ¡°I don¡¯t know either, but I know someone who might, if you agree I can call him.¡± They spent almost an hour discussing additional details of James¡¯s adventures, William asking most of the questions before two men showed up at the front door, they could see them over the surveillance system. William buzzed them in, and Katie went ahead to bring them in. Two men that walked into a room were similar in height and build to James, average on both fronts. The one on the right that was talking with Katie as they walked was visibly older, his face showing the millage. ¡°This is Mark,¡± Katie said, ¡°my friend from college days and these are astronaut James and Lieutenant William¡± Katie pointed to two of them standing around the table. ¡°Nice to meet you,¡± Mark said. ¡°This is one of the best experts I know, that¡¯s why I brought him here with Katie¡¯s approval of course.¡± He said pointing to a man next to him. ¡°Hello, I am Marcus,¡± He said with a polite smile. ¡°I¡¯ve been appointed to learn from Kraz¡¯ox about their technology, can I see the device?¡± Marcus asked. Lieutenant William passed him the devices and Marcus fiddled with it for a moment. ¡°I believe I can access the information, Kraz¡¯ox use a similar technology I believe. But I will need some of their devices to do that.¡± Marcus said. ¡°I doubt they would give you that willingly,¡± Lieutenant William said. ¡°Can my suit help maybe?¡± James asked. ¡°It¡¯s Anoi.¡± ¡°Let me take a look,¡± Marcus said and walked towards James. After almost two minutes of inspecting it, Marcus was sure he could access the device using James¡¯s suit. He took James¡¯s helmet and used what James knew about Anoi technology and got to work. ¡°Fuck yea, I am finally in,¡± Marcus yelled startling James, Katie, and Mark, only Lieutenant William being able to keep his calm demeanor. ¡°What does it say?¡± Lieutenant William asked. ¡°There are thousands of files, I will upload them to one of our computers,¡± Marcus said. The upload process took some time in which five of them discussed everything that has happened so far, William shared everything James had said with the two newcomers to the party. ¡°Here, the upload is finished,¡± Marcus said. They went over the documents for hours, they showed everything the Qhiks have said it would. From how to build a spaceship and hyperdrives from scratch to various medical advancements humans could only dream of in this day and age. But in order to do anything with it, they would need scientists, eagerness, doctors, physicists, and many more. There was a huge task ahead of them and a turning point for humanity, play along with Kraz¡¯ox or go behind their back on Qhiks instructions, and all eyes in the room were pointed towards Lieutenant William. ¡°Let¡¯s do this, humanity deserves better than to be a workforce to some alien race we know nothing about,¡± William said with a confident tone. 14. Pegasus (Begging of "part" 2) Three years later, New International Space Station. Meng walked the hallways of the new ISS built in cooperation with Kraz¡¯ox. The new station was more like a floating city than the old ISS that was destroyed when the Kraz¡¯ox appeared for the first time. It could hold several thousand people and u utilized Kraz¡¯ox gravity technology that allowed them to walk freely around the station with similar gravity to Earth¡¯s. Meng walked into a command room where she was met with greetings and salutes from both humans and Kraz¡¯ox. She walked towards Louanne, one of the members of the original ISS crew that went with Anoi on their little adventure. ¡°Everything set for today?¡± Meng asked with a hushed tone. ¡°Yes,¡± Louanne answered. ¡°How are the things down there?¡± ¡°We are keeping communications to a minimum today, but everything is set down there as well, two hours to go,¡± Meng answered. Three years ago after Meng, James, Chloe, and the others came back to Earth, the decision was made by Lieutenant William Grant sided with the Qhiks in this interstellar conflict that spans the whole universe and millions of years in the past. The decision was made by William but supported by everyone that was included in the project, including James, Katie, and Meng himself later when he found out. They had to carefully choose people to include in this secret which now had almost a thousand people from all across the globe with all thirty-five original ISS crew members included. They¡¯ve built three secret bases over the globe, the main one at the South Pole, a place where Kraz¡¯ox never even considered looking to. Three months ago, the first Human interstellar ship was built based on old Qhiks schematics, with a lot of additions from Kraz¡¯ox technology, with a new Humanly design. The ship was set to take its first flight today after the diversion that would be created at the new ISS station. In the past three years, the new human secret organization called United Front for Advancement of the Human race, or UFAH for short, noticed patterns in Kraz¡¯ox behavior on Earth. Whenever there was a conflict relatively near Earth the Kraz¡¯ox would send almost all available ships from Solar System there, leaving only a few scout ships that mostly looked out into space, almost never at Earth. UFAH would use that and create a false alarm today, as the new ISS was mostly in charge of scanning the near Solar System for Anoi and their coalition activities. Once the Kraz¡¯ox launched their ships towards the false threat, the first Human ship capable of hyperjumps, called Pegasus, would take a flight from the South Pole into the unknown. Hyperjumping directly from Earth¡¯s surface had its risks, but getting caught by the Kraz¡¯ox was almost inevitable if they left Earth¡¯s orbit and then jumped. Meng was feeling nervous, they worked non-stop, day and night blending into one for the past three years to make this a reality, Humans would level the plain field, or at least start the process. Meng wanted to be a part of the Pegasus¡¯s crew, but the decision was made for him to stay on the ISS duo to his set of skills, only fifteen of the original ISS members would ride the Pegasus, with the addition of twenty-five more people from various fields for a total crew of forty. Meng toured the ISS station and made final checks with everyone that was a part of UFAH on the Station. Everything was and the only thing left was a sign from Lieutenant William Grant and they would initiate the false alarms. ***** South Pole Station, UFAH headquarters, one hour before launch. James paced around the South Pole station as the engineers made the last pre-launch checks on Pegasus, he was appointed the Captain of the ship. In the last three years, he worked closely with Lieutenant William Grant in a preparation for this role, from military tactics and mannerisms to people and leadership skills. It was a big role, but a logical decision to appoint him as the Captain of the first ship, and Chloe was appointed as his XO. The two of them played well off each other and that was the dynamic Lieutenant William Grant wanted. James felt a wide array of emotions, he was beyond excited to get back into space after three years spent down on Earth. In order to spend most of his time on the South Pole, they had to trick Kraz¡¯ox into thinking James suffered a mental blockade due to his time spent in space with Anoi. It wasn¡¯t an easy task, Kraz¡¯ox kept an eye on him for a few months, but soon after forgot about him and the whole Anoi-ISS crew incident and turned to their more pressing problems. It allowed James to spend the past almost three years on the South Pole overseeing the building process of Pegasus, human space battle suits, and many other technological advancements. James also felt terrified, they believed they were doing the right thing for Humanity, but what if the Qhinks were the worst of them all? And they were going to their bidding, at least for now. But a more pressing matter was the launch, what if the diversion didn¡¯t work and Kraz¡¯ox noticed their ship, what would that mean for Earth and the human race, would Kraz¡¯ox harshen their conditions, which to be fair were not bad at all, or even worse would they declare a war on Earth. Those were some of the questions that ran through James¡¯s mind these past few months and today they induced a decent amount of anxiety. James stumbled onto Lieutenant Costas Lavrentios, a trusted friend of Lieutenant William Grant and a person in charge of military operations of UFAH at the South Pole station. ¡°James, are you ready?¡± Costas asked him with a polite smile across his face that was decorated by a thick graying beard. ¡°As ready as I can be,¡± James answered. ¡°Don¡¯t worry, everything will go smooth,¡± Costas said tapping James on the shoulders. ¡°Walk with me.¡± Two of them walked towards the hangar and went over the mission objectives one more time. Almost two years ago when they finally finished the South Pole station and started with their work, UFAH contacted the Qhiks via one of the devices they left with the ISS crew and updated them on their progress. A few months after that the Qhiks gave them coordinates to their first mission, the long-abandoned planet of their parent race Ellads that they didn¡¯t get to visit due to the Void threat. The planet, they called Ephulea III, could hold the knowledge about the Void that was long forgotten. Walking into the hanger James and Costas were welcomed by the first human spaceship capable of hyper jump in its all glory. The vessel looked nothing like Kraz¡¯ox or Anoi, it somehow felt more gracious and elegant, more like a cruiser ship compared to a NAVY battleship. But looks could fool, it was a battleship in its core, Qhiks insisted humans be capable of defending themselves in case they stumbled onto the rogue enemy ship, so they armed it with Qhiks, Kraz¡¯ox, and human nuclear weapons. The spaceship was mostly dark gray in color, with white strips coming to a point at the front of the ship. From both sides, it was decorated with the UFAH logo and its name, Pegasus I. The ship could hold more than two hundred crew members but could function with as little as ten. They decided on forty crew members for the first flight in order to keep the ship running smoothly, but not to overcrowd it since it was only a scout mission. The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. James spent the remaining time before boarding pacing around the ship, talking with engineers, and checking with the Crew that was about to embark on the first human interstellar flight. His conversation with Eric was cut short due to an announcement over the PA system. ¡°All crew of Pegasus flight goes to your designated position in order to suit up into your space suits.¡± A feminine voice said over the PA. ¡°Here we go,¡± James said. ¡°Hell, yea¡ about time,¡± Eric said with a smile and they walked towards their locker room. Similar to Pegasus, new Human space suits were hybrid of Anoi, Kraz¡¯ox, and Qhiks technology, taking the best elements from all three and adopting them to humans. Suits at the times seemed more impressive than the Pegasus itself, they had shields like the ones Kraz¡¯ox used to repel the attacks, and they had a decent arsenal of weaponry if the wearer ever found himself in ground combat, they could produce their own oxygen for days thanks to the Qhiks technology, they also had trusters at various positions to help you move around in the vacuum of space and many other. Those functions only scratched the surface of the suit¡¯s capabilities, but they were the main focus of training for the Pegasus crew, the rest would have to wait. Ignoring all their functionalities James felt powerful wearing the suit as it looked menacing with its blacked-out visors and black body paint with white and red stripes that followed the curvature of the suits which allowed humans to move freely like they were wearing almost nothing. Wearing the suits, James felt, like he was the pinnacle of human strength and power. A short time after all the members were dressed in new space suits and the designated crew did all the necessary checks new announcement arrived that Pegasus was ready for boarding and the crew into the hangar. Pegasus had three entrances to ensure the fastest possible boarding when the ship was at full capacity and found itself in a sticky situation. This time, as it was only forty members and there was no need to rush things, the whole crew entered from the main point below the ship¡¯s hull. The whole South Pole station watched them ascend into the belly of the ship and saw them off with applause, the crew saluting them back. ¡°James, can you hear me?¡± Katie said over the comms, her voice clear as she was standing next to him. ¡°Loud and clear,¡± James answered. ¡°How are things looking?¡± ¡°Everything is running smooth, there are no complications,¡± Katie said. ¡°But I don¡¯t want to Jinx us.¡± ¡°Roger that, we are going to make one last check from inside the ship and we will be ready to go in less than ten minutes,¡± James said and closed the communication channel towards Katie and opened a new one towards the Pegasus crew. ¡°Ladies and Gentleman, welcome to humanity¡¯s first interstellar flight,¡± Captain James said to his crew over the comms. ¡°We practiced this what feels like million times, but going for real now, I¡¯ve gotta admit it I wish we practiced a couple million times more. It¡¯s not because I don¡¯t believe in you, because I do with all my heart, you are the best of the best and there is no other group of people I would embark on this mission with.¡± Even with all the training James has done with Luitenant William, Costas, and another officer, he was still too honest at the times and said unnecessary things, but he felt the crew loved him for that, that it was just part of his personality no training could rewrite. ¡°I am only saying that because of the insanity of the situation,¡± James continued. ¡°I still can¡¯t believe we are going to press a button and appear in another solar system with something we, the humans, built. But as already said, the most brilliant minds on Earth worked on this, and there is no doubt in me that we are going to succeed with this mission and go on hundreds more together, so go to your stations we are going to do one last pre-flight check and launch ourselves into the unknown.¡± A Flood of confirmations came through the comms and James went towards his place, in the center of the command room. Humans would be humans, it was someone said by one of the engineers while they were doing schematics for the Pegasus. Instead of going for simplicity and efficiencies like Kraz¡¯ox, Anoi, and Qhiks, the humans wanted comfort, luxury, and beauty in their ship, and now all that in mind Pegasus was built. Justification for comfort was that mission could take for years, there was no need to break their backs, and they would need it to keep their sanity, similar could be said for luxury with the food, drinks, and other accommodations and for the beauty, someone just said ¡°why not¡±, and it was truly why not, the cost was same, efficiency as well, so there it was, the ship at the times reminded James of luxury over-ocean cruisers. The command room on the other hand was not built with all that in mind, but with safety as the first and most important function. The look of the room also felt like entering another building completely, as it was built with combat in mind. Screens, panels, and chairs with straps all over the room. The combat room could also be turned into an escape pod if the rest of the ship was heavily damaged. There was an idea to connect the command room directly with the hyperdrive in order to jump the room away and destroy the rest of the ship in the process when the situation called for it, but for now, it was left as only the idea, and the scientist at the three UFAH stations would need to think of how to create and implement it. The pre-check went as smoothly as expected, everything was alright and ready for the launch. ¡°Everything clear on our side,¡± James said to Katie over the comms. ¡°Roger that, stay on your positions and be ready to take off, we are going to initiate the fake-out protocol,¡± Katie said and called for Meng on the new ISS station. ********* Youx fell in love with the earth and humanity over the past three years he has spent in the Solar System. He did scouting routes with utmost professionalism and perfection even though Earth was left completely alone after the initial Anoi landing and Humans came back with their ship. After the shifts were done he would rush to Earth¡¯s surface and enjoy the human culture, food, drinks, nature, and other wonders of the planet. Every two weeks he would visit a new part of the planet he still didn¡¯t get to see and he would write all the findings about the humans and their culture into his journal. He was contemplating writing a book and publishing it once he goes back to the Kraz¡¯ox home planet. He learned some of the human gestures, he could even speak conversational English by now and hoped to speak it perfectly in another year. Youx was flying his standard scouting path when the alarms started blaring. He opened the comms and listened to the information. ¡°Armada of Anoi ships spotted at Alpha Centauri system, all available battleships get ready for the jumps.¡± A voice said from the command center located on the new ISS station. ¡°Scout ships will go with them, all but, SC-11-SS, SC-15-SS¡¡± The voice listed six other, Youx ships among them. Youx was relieved, he hated combat and hoped to stay on non-combat scouting missions until the war was over. He returned to the new ISS and watched other ships create war formations as they got ready to jump into Alpha Centauri. He got and the other scouting ships got instructions to stay on high alert and scan their new routes carefully if some of the Anoi decide to jump into Solar System. Youx started his new route as soon as the ships jumped away but everything was calm, as he waited to hear information from Alpha Centauri he noticed a little blip on the radar for a millisecond, he wanted to write it off as just nerves, but just in case rewound back and his surprise there was a red dot from an unknown source which somehow came from Earths surface and not from space. He went over it a few more times and the same results happened, the dot appeared somewhere in Earth¡¯s South Hemisphere for a fraction of a second and then disappeared. Curiosity got the better of him and as the command center gave no new instructions or information from Alpha Centauri, he dove into Earth¡¯s atmosphere towards the South Pole, where the dot initially appeared. Once there he saw nothing but a white blanket made out of snow and waves from the clear blue ocean crashing into it. He scanned the area but found no intelligent life forms, only a few animals scattered around. Scanning the air on the location appeared he noticed a ripple, not visible with the naked eye, but through ships scopes. That kind of ripple only appeared when a hyper-jump happened and stayed for less than five minutes, and this one was declining rapidly. He had a choice to report it back to the command center and lose the chance to follow through the hole or go right now and report back later. Curiosity got the better of him once again, he hated combat but this felt like something different, something that had no connection to the current war, so impulsively he told his ship to follow the ripples and jump him to the other side. The clear blue Earth sky was replaced by the blackness of space, light coming from one unknown star and before his ship could calculate where they were, his alarms started blaring, and then he noticed it. A battleship unlike he ever saw, a black giant with white strips and something written in the human Alphabet, ¡°Pegasus I¡±. 15. The Dream

The Dream DOWNLOAD ¡°Sir we have been followed, it appears to be Kraz¡¯ox scout ship,¡± Roanne, one of the three combat specialists on the Pegasus, said. ¡°Target it right away, try to jam its communication towards other Kraz¡¯oxs,¡± James said decisively. ¡°Yes, sir,¡± Roanne answered and started playing with the hologram ahead of her. ¡°Target locked, communications jammed, should we fire right away.¡± She asked looking at James. James thought about it for a second, but decided against immediately shooting at the alien ship, ¡°Don¡¯t shoot, open a channel towards him, I want to know how he managed to follow us.¡± Roanne nodded and went back to work, moments later she nodded back toward James, the channel was open. ¡°This is Captain James Barnes of the battleship Pegasus speaking, disable your weapon systems and power down your ship right away if you don¡¯t want to be destroyed,¡± James said and waited a few moments before Chloe confirmed the Kraz¡¯ox ship has shut down all its systems besides communication. ¡°We are going to board your ship, and take you in for questioning, do you understand?¡± James continued. ¡°I understand,¡± Kraz¡¯ox voice echoed inside the command room of Pegasus. James called for Hugo Lawson another close friend of Luitenant William Grant who was appointed as chief of the strike team on Pegasus I. His team included six more members on the shortened crew and, at full capacity his team could count up to fifty members once everyone goes through training. James gave Hugo instructions to board the Kraz¡¯ox shield, take the Alien and his ship into Pegasus, and if the alien tries anything funny, Hugo had full clearance to end it there. For now, only ten smaller combat and explorer ships were part of the Pegasus I hangar, Hugo and his team would split into two for the upcoming mission. Anxiety and stress never completely left James these past three years, and after a short period of a lull after a successful jump, these feelings came back like a storm once the Kraz¡¯ox ship followed them. James felt confident that the Kraz¡¯ox couldn¡¯t send a signal back to the Kraz¡¯ox command as they intercepted him as soon as he jumped in, but if he was alone, was yet to be seen. James, Chloe, and the rest of the team watched the live feed, from cameras integrated into battle suit¡¯s helmets, as Hugo and his team approached the Kraz¡¯ox ship. The boarding went without a problem, Kraz¡¯ox alien, who introduced himself as Youx, complied with everything Hugo has demanded. They easily retrieved the Alien and his ship into the Pegasus. On Captain James¡¯s command, Hugo brought the alien into one of the rooms designed to keep eventual prisoners, something they didn¡¯t anticipate happening on their first-ever mission. This novel is published on a different platform. Support the original author by finding the official source. Alien complied with everything Hugo¡¯s team said and waited for Captain James in silence sitting at the table¡¯s far side. As James entered Alien stood up and extended his hand as if to shake hands, something Kraz¡¯ox never did. James shook his hand reluctantly and after doing so the Alien introduced himself once again. ¡°I am Captain James Barnes of the first human interstellar ship Pegasus I,¡± James said. ¡°My name is Youx,¡± The alien said with a slight accent and James noticed he was not using a translator, but speaking directly to him. ¡°How do you know our language?¡± James asked. ¡°I am fascinated by new cultures and yours is one of the most vibrant and beautiful I¡¯ve seen in my life,¡± The alien said. ¡°So, what are you? You can¡¯t be just an ordinary soldier, tracking us here, knowing this well, you must be someone of a rank,¡± James asked. A tiny smile appeared on Youx¡¯s face, humans could rarely see when Kraz¡¯ox smiled, but this time it was noticeable. Youx then went into his story, how he hated war and everything that comes with it but was forced into this one because of the mobilization caused by heavy losses on both sides. He hated the job, but as all Kraz¡¯ox did it to his best capabilities and that¡¯s how he tracked Pegasus, by scanning everything and looking for the slightest details, Kraz¡¯ox were perfectionists as a species. James was not sure if he believed him, but there was some sincerity in the Alien¡¯s voice, but for now, he was to be locked in this room and treated as a prisoner of war. There could be some use for him once they eventually head back to earth, there as still so much to learn about Kraz¡¯ox, maybe he was a blessing in disguise after all. James returned to the bridge and the view was magnificent, ancient planet decorated the screens and the windows of the ship, Ephulea III stood silent in all its glory. ¡°No life sign readings coming from the planet or anywhere in the system sir,¡± Roanne said. ¡°Good,¡± James said with a nod. ¡°You all know your tasks for the rest of the day after that get some rest and tomorrow we proceed with the mission.¡± They agreed they would run diagnostics and wait at least a day before going down to an Ephulea III just to be sure Pegasus¡¯s systems worked perfectly after the first jump. Until tomorrow James could finally rest, this was the easiest part of their mission, just merely arriving here, now they had to explore the ancient planet and somehow return to Earth without Kraz¡¯ox noticing, but those were thoughts for tomorrow, James went to his cabin and sunk into the bed. James floated in space without a suit, but somehow was alive and not cold, he could move freely, like diving through water. In the distance, Earth and Qhiks home planet somehow stood side to side. Seconds later darkness, with neon blue veins running through it appeared behind the two planets, towering over both of them and slowly engulfing them. James stood and watched in horror as always before the voice started calling him once again. ¡°James, James, you know what you have to do,¡± the deep thunderous voice said. ¡°Who are you, what are you?¡± James tried to ask this voice all kinds of questions, but answers never came, it repeated itself like a broken record. ¡°You will have to decide James, you will have to choose and sacrifice them!¡± The voice said and as always that was a queue for him to wake up. James awoke sweating once again, the same recurring dream returning to hunt him once again. The dream started a few days after he returned to Earth and reappeared every so often, no patterns, just randomly it would appear. James couldn¡¯t really go to a psychiatrist without revealing too much about everything that was going on, but luckily for him Dr. Jones at South Pole Station finished Psychology amongst other things and James talked with him regularly. What they derived was that it was just James coping with the insanity of the whole situation, aliens existing, getting taken by one, finding out even more ancient aliens exist that are scared of some unknown all-eating space monster, and also by the fact that James from and ordinary astronaut became a Captain of first Human space battleship and was responsible for so many people. James accepted that answer, it was a logical one, but he also felt like there was more to it, there had to be, a dream can¡¯t repeat itself almost to perfection this many times. James stood up and got dressed, there was no time to dwell on this today, they had a planet to explore. 16. Ephulea III James walked towards Youx¡¯s cell before going to the bridge. He had more questions for him and the Alien seemed willing to answer everything he threw at him. But the alien was asleep, one of the guards said that he fell asleep not so long ago, so James let him be. He had more important things to do, and he would tell Chloe to visit him once he goes down to explore the planet. Chloe was to stay on the ship and take charge while they do the expedition on Ephulea III. Once he entered the bridge, everyone salute him, James saluted back, but the feeling was still not natural to him. James asked Lieutenant William if they could remove saluting on Pegasus, but William was persuasive that they needed to keep some form of human military ranking and customs. James complied, it made sense, but the feeling of it being unnecessary was still present. ¡°Captain, we got the ship in the position from which you can safely and easily leave and land on Ephulea III,¡± Chloe said. ¡°Great and thank you XO,¡± James said looking around the busy bridge crew. ¡°Where is chief Lawson?¡± James asked. ¡°He is getting his crew ready and doing one last check-up before the expedition,¡± Chloe answered. ¡°Good,¡± James said and nodded. ¡°Make the announcement we leave in an hour. I am going to get suited up myself in the meantime.¡± Before he left the bridge, James pulled Chloe to the side and told her to keep an eye on Youx, and gave her a list of the questions to ask him. Getting into a new human spacesuit was easy, it was made so one person could quickly suit up on their own if it was necessary. But since there was no rush James was helped by one of the staff. The suit had three parts, boots that went up to almost a knee, a helmet, and the rest of the shit. James put on the boots, and was helped with the suit and helmet could wait until they board the landing ship. He clicked a few buttons on his suit control panel that was located on his left forearm and the suit tightened and adapted to his body. James made a short walk towards the hangar where Chief Lawson lawson and his team were already suited up and were boarding the landing ships with the necessary equipment and rations to last them a week, although the mission was supposed to be only two or three days, they agreed it was smarter to bring more. Fifteen people were selected to go down to Ephulea III including James, Chief Lawson and, three members of his team, and the rest of the crew was compiled of scientists and researchers. For James time always seemed to slow down before the mission started, seconds turned into minutes, minutes into hours, he kept checking the countdown on the suit¡¯s control panel, fifteen more minutes. He paced around the hangar waiting for everyone to arrive and for the ship to be boarded, before giving a short speech. He didn¡¯t prepare for this one, just a few short and simple sentences for both the crew going down and staying at the Pegasus. For someone who had the yips whenever he was supposed to speak in front of more than five people, he was growing accustomed to them now. The expedition crew was split into two landing ships piloted by Chief Lawson and his second-in-command Aleisha Gray. Ships were boarded, supplies and equipment triple-checked, the timer showed zero and James found himself on the way toward Ephulea III. The Qhiks never got to explore that planet, once they found out about it, the Void already became too large of a threat so they caved back into their home systems along with their enemies. Qhiks believe it¡¯s one of the Ellad¡¯s original planets, one of the first they colonized after their home planet, so in their opinion, it could hold more information on the Void and Ellads themselves. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. Entering into the atmosphere was rocky, similar to when James entered Earth¡¯s atmosphere on board Kraz¡¯ox ships three years ago. Once they cleared the clouds James could enjoy everything the Ephulea III had to offer. The planet was similar to Earth in size, it had three huge continents surrounded by large oceans. Two continents run almost parallel to each other, one starting from the north pole and stretching towards the south, and the other doing the same from the south pole upwards. The third continent, and their location, was lonely on the other side of the planet. The continent was huge, almost twice the size of Asia, some eighty million square kilometers. James expected a somewhat apocalyptic look for a planet, the image of scorched earth was embroidered in his mind, but Ephulea III was everything but that. Once they came closer to the ground it was clear that the planet was booming with vegetation outside a few mountaintops that peaked with their white coat everything else was a mix of green, red and yellow. Scientists aboard James¡¯s landing ship were already documenting everything they saw with their suits. James just enjoy the view, there would be plenty of time to document things. Their spot was on the northern part of the continent and didn¡¯t seem to differ any from the other scenery, only once they came closer to where they didn¡¯t need to enchant the view, James started to notice skeletal remains of alien structures that towered over the trees. Vegetation grew around them, but those grayish remains were clear. There was even some clear space in between threes near the location Qhiks provided for them. ¡°I think the best course of action is to land in the clearing, Sir,¡± Chief Lawson said. ¡°And make the rest of the way on foot or with buggies, it¡¯s not more than a kilometer from our location.¡± ¡°I agree,¡± James said through the comms. ¡°I will radio the other ship, you lead the way.¡± The landing went smooth, Chief Lawson practiced it in their simulators at South Pole Station what seemed like billion times, and the other ship followed half a minute later. It took them less than 10 minutes to unload all the necessary equipment and assemble the buggies. They decided on assembling buggies to at least carry some load of the equipment for them. The trees were not dense on the surface, but there were a lot of smaller plants and rocks in the way, but one of the buggies that took the front cleared it without much of a problem. Some 800 meters in the trees got denser and the terrain was too much for buggies, so they took the equipment and decided to walk the rest of the way. The map showed their mission location just behind a small hill, an alien structure now was clearly visible, reaching for the sky way above them. The structure tentacles that reached towards the sky had a biological feel to them, and vines that looked like veins that used to give life to the structure were dead now. Qhiks have said that Ellads have combined technology with living organisms to reach new unimaginable levels of development and advancement. Climbing the hill was not much of a task since most of them were in their best year and trained hard at the South Pole Station. Once at top of the hill, James could finally see what their mission was. There was a small building at the bottom of the hill, with a large hatch at the top. The building went underground and the large structures that were poking like Antena were some kind of an extension. They made their way down the hill easily, their radars constantly scanning the area around them for any form of life outside the plants, scans came back negative. Once down the hill they look for a way in, but the structure withstood the test of time, that¡¯s something Qhiks have said as well, Ellads building and ships didn¡¯t seem to decay. And all the time Qhinks studied Ellads and their technology they didn¡¯t find a way to open their building without blowing them up. Luckily, while the buildings and the rest of their technology were powered down it was easy to blow it up with almost any form of explosion, human explosions would suffice as well. Since there was no clear way in, Chief Lawson started setting up the charges around the large hatch, James kept looking around the strange alien plants and trees, from the distance they didn¡¯t much differ from the earth, but now up close and actually looking at them all off it looked odd to him. Chief Lawson gave the command for everyone to clear the area for the blast and they spread around the bottom of the hill. But before the countdown reached zero James heard a scream coming from his right side. Turning around he managed to see a large creature dragging one of the scientists and tossing them around, two seconds later James himself was on the ground, something tugging on his legs. 17. Battle on all fronts ¡°We are under atta-,¡± James yelled over the comes, but was cut off before he could finish. ¡°Captain, what¡¯s going on?¡± Chloe yelled back, but no reply came.¡°Roanne what is going on, why can¡¯t we contact them?¡± Chloe turned her focus towards her. ¡°I don¡¯t know XO, the comms are somehow down,¡± Roanne answered while fiddling with the panel in front of her. ¡°Can we fix it?¡± Chloe asked. ¡°To be honest, I have no idea what is going on, but I am doing my best.¡± She said not turning around and continuing to play with the panel in front of her. ¡°Here,¡± Roanne yelled. ¡°We can¡¯t get comms, nor visuals, but at least I managed to pull their vitals.¡± She said and pulled a hologram, then transferred it to the middle of the ship where acting Captain Chloe could see it easier. A rough image of the terrain appeared as the 3D hologram and their team as blue dots running around. Chloe quickly counted fourteen dots instead of fifteen. ¡°I count only fourteen, who is missing,¡± She yelled. ¡°Wait,¡± Roanne said. ¡°Doctor Vasquez is missing, I can¡¯t find his suit signature anywhere.¡± She said then held her hand up. ¡°Wait I am getting something else,¡± and ten red dots appeared scattered around the blue dots on the hologram. ¡°What the hell is that?¡± Chloe asked. ¡°No idea Captain,¡± Roanne answered and continued to work. ¡°Can we get an image on the ground?¡± Chloe asked. ¡°I am trying-¡± before Roanne could answer Pegasus shook violently and the lighting around the bridge turned dim red. Alarms started blaring, and Chloe pulled up the radar which didn¡¯t show anything in their proximity. ¡°What happened?¡± Chloe asked around the room. ¡°We were hit on the right side, no damage to the ship thought,¡± Dark-haired, thick-bearded crew member with a deep voice answered. Chloe was bad with names and as the crew was selected only a few weeks before the mission she was afraid she would forget the names of some people. Luckily for her, she remembered his name, he worked for NASA before all this happened. Their paths before the aliens have never crossed, but they chatted several times while at the South Pole Station. ¡°Thank you, Thomas,¡± She said. ¡°What hit us, I am not seeing anything on the radar.¡± ¡°We are still trying to figure it out,¡± Thomas said. ¡°I¡¯ve got it,¡± Another technician said. A blue-haired thin woman in her mid-thirties. Chloe remembered her as well, maybe her fears were misplaced, she knew this person well after all most of them spent at least a year together at South Pole Station. Her name was Nicole and she was a part of the British Royal Navy before all this. Lieutenant William knew her as well from one of their missions and recruited her to the South Pole Station a few months after they started. As Chloe was about to ask Nicole what she got, two red dots appeared on the radar on both sides of the ship, next to the planet¡¯s moons. ¡°There appear to be two platforms that were hidden by the moon and powered down so our radars didn¡¯t pick them up,¡± Nicole said. ¡°One of them fired on us, the other one is still idle.¡± ¡°I am getting the image,¡± Roanne said and swapped the hologram in the middle of the bridge that showed a situation on the planet with the image of a platform. It was long and rectangular in shape, it had no lights and was barely visible next to the moon. Before anyone could say anything one of the sides of the platform opened and five objects flew out in the direction of the Pegasus. ¡°What the hell are those,¡± Chloe asked. ¡°They appeared to be small battleships similar in size to ours,¡± Roanne said. ¡°But I am not reading any life signs from them, they might be drones.¡± Chloe felt overwhelmed, what had they gotten themselves into? Qhiks have never mentioned any Ellad platforms or ships, they have never mentioned stumbling onto anything alive on Ellad planets. But there is no time to dwell now, they were under attack both here and on the ground. She first needed to take care of the situation here in space before she could help Captain James and the rest of the expedition crew on the ground. The drones were small and could easily outmaneuver any Pegasus defense, fortunately, they had fighting ships of their own aboard the Pegasus. Unfortunate thing was that five people that knew how to fly fighter ships were down on the Ephulea III. That left only two members of Chief Lawson¡¯s team, Jojo and Elna, and her. Three of them versus what appeared to be ten drones for now. This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there. She gave the order for Jojo and Elna to run towards the hangar, explained to bridge what her plan was, and then ran there herself. Before she could board and fly the fighter ships, they called them Hornets, Chloe needed to suit up. Luckily for her one of the technicians was ahead of that and prepared everything, it took her less than a minute to be fully suited up and aboard the ship. ¡°I am Hornet one, Jojo you are two, Elna you are three,¡± Chloe said over the comms. ¡°Roger that,¡± both of them confirmed. ¡°We fly together, don¡¯t split up unless we are forced to,¡± Chloe continued. ¡°We have no idea of those drone¡¯s capabilities so be very careful until we figure them out.¡± And with that, all three of them left Pegasus hangar and rushed towards five drones coming from their right side as they were closer. It took them around five minutes of flying at about fifty percent speed to reach the drones and start scraping with them. Hornets had a mix of Kraz¡¯ox and old Qhiks AI when it came to dodging and firing, fighting could be done almost fully automatically. But that was the problem as the drones apparently had similar systems, after almost a minute of scrapping no one hit anyone, but they were outnumbered, once the other five drones reached them, it would be only a matter of time before they started hitting Hornets and the battle was lost. ¡°Switch to manual targeting and shooting,¡± Chloe said over the comms. ¡°And just start firing at random, we need to confuse their dodging as much as we can.¡± ¡°Roger that,¡± Both Jojo and Elna confirmed. ¡°I am going to split, you two keep fighting together,¡± Chloe said over the comms and flew towards the platform. Only one drone followed her and four stayed on the other two Hornets. Her Hornet easily dodged all the attacks, and she drew the drone away from the fight consistently firing at him. When they were far away, she stopped firing at all for some thirty seconds letting the drone chase her, then she flipped her ship one eighty degrees and fired straight ahead, and then a few shots at each side. The drone¡¯s system was focused on the fire coming straight ahead and tried to dodge to the side running into one of the straight energy blasts that Chloe sent which hit it to the side. The drone seemed to be disabled, but Chloe flew closer and fired more shots just to be sure. Jojo and Elna were chased by the four drones not so far away from her position, so she went toward them at full speed, but before she reached them Roanne contacted her from the Pegasus. ¡°The other platform started firing at us,¡± Roanne said. ¡°And the other four drones just flew past the Pegasus, they seem to be after you.¡± ¡°Can you handle Platforms on our own with Peagsus¡¯s weapons,¡± Chloe asked. ¡°We can, you take care of the drones, we will dismantle those platforms in no time,¡± Roanne said, and Chloe saw Pegasus start moving, and after a few seconds, it jumped towards the Station far to the left. Chloe had to focus on her fight, in no time other five drones would be approaching, and they needed to dismantle those four before they arrived. She trusted Roanne and her crew, they will be able to dismantle the platforms with ease. Chloe flew after the drones that were chasing Jojo and Elna. She gave orders for both of them to focus their fire on one of the drones that was after Jojo and they were able to shut it down in no time. They repeated the process on another drone but as it now was three versus three drones completely changed their strategy and started running towards the other five drones that were coming to help. As their full focus now was on dodging, in three minutes they ran towards their backup only one of the drones was shut down. Chloe, Jojo, and Elna now found themselves in seven versus three situations scrambling to dodge everything that drones threw at them. Chloe wanted to repeat the same she did the first time and split from the team. But this time, three drones flew after her and only four stayed at the other two Hornets. Drones blocked her path back toward her team and slowly started to surrender her. ¡°Try to shut them down there, I will try to survive for now,¡± Chloe said over the comms. ¡°Hold on Hornet one, we will come to help you as soon as we can,¡± Jojo said. Chloe flew around dodging everything the drones threw at her, but they were tightening the circle around her. They were dragging her toward the station on the right side and cutting her way toward the other two Hornets. She tried to fight back, but the drones easily dodged her attacks, she only did a disservice to herself by firing and found herself completely surrounded. She tried going up or down, relative to her position, but the drones follow milliseconds later and were coming closer, her sensors were already warning her that the enemy was too close and that the AI had no time to react to the shots. She got hit once, then twice, luckily their blasts were weaker than Hornet¡¯s and she redirected more Power to the Shields, so she could take several more hits without any serious damage. She looked over the radar and Jojo and Elna managed to destroy one drone and were engaging the other three, trying to break toward her but were several minutes away, she couldn¡¯t hold for that long. She got hit several more times, the ship¡¯s voice informing her that her shield was done. The drone in front of her fired again and she instinctively closed her eyes, one second passed nothing, two, three, four, five, and nothing. She opened her eyes to the sight of one of the drones laying dismantled in front of her and another Hornet fighting the two drones that had her surrounded. She checked the radar, Jojo and Elna were still far away, now fighting two versus two, managing to destroy one more drone. She opened comms towards the Hornet near her and asked, ¡°Who is it?¡± ¡°Don¡¯t you mean thanks for saving your ass, as you humans would say,¡± A weird voice answered, Chloe couldn¡¯t connect it to anyone she knew. ¡°It¡¯s Youx, you prisoner, here to help.¡± ¡°What? Who let you out and gave you a ship?¡± Chloe asked. ¡°No one, once your ship got hit, the powered went down for a millisecond and the door unlocked,¡± Youx said. ¡°I stole your ship as you disabled mine and wanted to get away, but all this feels weird so I decided to help, to find out what is going on.¡± ¡°Well, thanks I guess,¡± Chloe said. ¡°Still wanna help?¡± ¡°Let¡¯s finish the job,¡± Youx said and they engaged the remaining drones. 18. What Lies Beneath ¡°We are under attack, I repeat we are under attack,¡± James yelled as he struggled to get up, something trying to drag him away. He hated training for four hours each day in the suits, but Luitenant William was relentless you had to repeat each exercise and scenario over and over again. William said that it was the only way to carve something into the human brain so that when the situation calls for it, the brain would take over and save someone¡¯s life. Luckily for James, Luitenant was right, he didn¡¯t panic, and he didn¡¯t try to find out what was tugging on his leg, he remained calm and fired his thrusters that were primarily used to maneuver in the vacuum of space but would do in this situation as well. He propelled himself to the side with the power of the thrusters he easily escaped the grip of whatever was dragon on him. Once he was free, he quickly stood up and turned toward the direction he came from, there he saw a creature size of a grizzly bear. The creature was a blend of flash and metal, it stood on all fours like a lot of earth animals but had two extra limbs protruding from his sides close to the neck. Its mouth was a mash of metal teeth, it had three metal horns on top of its head and spikes all over the back. It all had a faint orange glow topped off with a bright glow from the eyes. There was no doubt in James¡¯s mind that it was the same technology or mix of technology and biology that Qhiks used. But Qhiks was adamant that Ellads were extinct and that all the worlds they visited showed no signs of life. James couldn¡¯t dwell on those thoughts for long as the creature was already charging him. Training took over again and James dodged an attack from a creature that tried to impale him with its horns. He took a moment to look around the valley, which suddenly turned into a battlefield. There were around ten creatures as far as James could count by just looking around. Most of his crew was either already on the ground or managed to barely escape like him. One of his team members lay on the ground not moving, he didn¡¯t recognize who as all of their suits were the same, so he enabled name tags on his visor and it showed Dr. Vasquez and no vital signs coming from his suit. James froze for a moment and the creature slammed into him from the side, its horn scraping James¡¯ side, luckily it hit the heavily armored part of the suit and didn¡¯t pierce it, but James once again found himself on the ground with an aching pain all over his body. Chief Hugo Lawson and his team were the first ones that have shaken off the initial shock and started fighting creatures, after all, they were soldiers and most of their training focused on combat or flying. Hugo used the suit to its fullest potential dancing around the battlefield with enchanted speed and using thrusters to quickly change directions. He quickly realized that creatures were pretty straightforward with their attacks, charging head-first into the enemy. So he waited for the one that was focusing on him to charge again and as soon as it did, he charged back. The creature looked straight at him with its orange glowing eyes and just before they were about to clash the creature lowered its head and pointed its horns toward Hugo. Hugo used his thrusters to avoid being impaled and fired an energy blast from the suit¡¯s right sleeve into the creature¡¯s neck. The creature stumbled and was visibly hurt by the blast so Hugo seized the moment and attacked the creature. The suit had the option of turning its blasting energy into an almost solid object like a hammer, knife, scalpel, torch, or similar tools that were supposed to be used when repairing ships. He used most of the energy and created what almost looked like a sword that shined bright from blue energy. Hugo attacked the same spot he hit with the blast and impaled the creature with his energy sword. The creature let out an inhumane roar and stumbled onto the ground. Just to be sure, Hugo repeated the attacks with the sword a few more times. His team had a similar idea, and it took them a little bit longer but they were defeating creatures that were focusing on them one by one. Scientists, on the other hand, were scrambling for their life, most of the were barely dodging attacks and ran around the valley, and one of them lay on the ground, not moving. Hugo noticed that James was not running but tried to fight the creature, but he found himself on the ground, the creature above him. The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement. Hugo removed his sword and started blasting energy projectiles at the creature that was at top of Captain James. He ran at the full speed gaining the creature¡¯s attention. It turned towards him and started running at full speed. Hugo wanted to repeat the same thing he did just a minute ago so he ran at full speed at the creature waiting for it to bow its head, but that moment never came, the creature kept looking at him while charging. Hugo tried to dodge and repeat the attack anyway, but as he slid to the right side, the creature turned its head and switched directions launching Hugo into the air. Hugo flew some ten meters before colliding with the ground hard, luckily he managed to engage the thrusters mitigating his fall. By the time it took him to regain his focus, the creature engaged James once again. The Captain kept running around and firing the blasts from his right arm but it didn¡¯t do any damage. Their points must be their necks and joints, possibly the underbelly. Hugo stood up and started blasting once again, knowing it would not do any damage to the creature but it would get its attention. Once again he found himself running head to head with the beast, but this time knowing that creature would not bow its head, so moments before colliding he slid through the ground below the creature once again making a sword and cutting the creature open from its neck down towards its belly. The creature fell to the ground behind him and Captain James helped him up. Hugo¡¯s team was able to defeat several more creatures, so now they found themself with a great number of adventures. Hugo relayed everything he noticed over the comms and lead the attack against the remaining creatures. It took them less than five minutes to defeat them all, creatures were adopting fast, but human numbers provided them with a great advantage. Once all the creatures were downed, they all rushed towards the unconscious man, Dr. Vasquez, who went down at the start of the battle. James hoped that Doctor was just unconscious and that suit malfunctioned, but the pool of blood next to him spoke a different tune. The creature that attacked Dr. Vasquez managed to impale him through the weak point on the suit, right at the armpit, and cut him open towards the abdomen. Some of the scientists along with Hugo, who knew field medicine, tried to help the Doctor, but it was too late, James had lost his first crew member. James turned away from his crew as something tightened in his gut and he felt nauseous. He tried to gather himself, they needed a captain now. ¡°Captain, captain¡¡± Chief Lawson¡¯s voice echoed over the comms and James snapped out of it. ¡°Yes, Chief,¡± James said his voice cracking. ¡°We can not reach the ship, comms seem to be down,¡± Hugo said. James tried to contact Pegasus himself, but there was nothing, only silence over the comms. He pulled the radar on the display of his suit and tried to find a sign of the ship on the radar. Zooming out of the planet he saw a blinking dot that showed Pegasus who blinked away from its original position, and four Hornets scattered around the space. What was going on? He tried contacting Pegasus again, but nothing. He turned towards his crew, pushing the anxiety and nausea away, and before he could talk his radar started blaring, a swarm of red dots appearing behind the hill. A few moments later hundreds of creatures appeared at top of the hill, they were completely surrounded. Panic took over once again, as they all looked around. ¡°We need to blast that hatch and get underground, clear the area¡± Chief Lawson yelled. The explosion echoed over the valley and they rushed towards the hatch. As the dust settled they looked for an opening, but the hatch was undamaged. Chief Lawson scrambled for more explosion but he stopped dead in his tracks as a stampede of creatures rushed down the hill. James watched in horror, ¡°Can we break through towards our buggies?¡± He asked Chief Lawson. ¡°Let¡¯s try, it¡¯s in that direction,¡± Hugo pointed. ¡°My team and Captain let¡¯s take the front and try to break through, rest of you behind us and watch our backs.¡± Creatures were already halfway down and James knew deep down that there was no way they would break through, but he took his position anyway, there was no harm in trying. ¡°Get ready,¡± Chief Lawson said. ¡°And-¡± Before Chief Lawson could finish a loud buzzing filled the air around them and creatures stopped right in their tracks. Seconds later the buzzing grew uncomfortably loud and the Alien structure came alive with orange light. The light spiraled out of the ground towards the top of the half-arches that were protruding towards the sky. They were all stunned, only once he turned around James noticed that the hatch had opened. 19. Unwelcome Guests ¡°Get inside,¡± Chief Lawson yelled. ¡°Get into the shaft.¡± But James stood still at the sight of the creatures that froze like they were glanced at by Medusa, still alive but unable to move. By the time James came to his senses, most of the scientists had already entered the hatch, and Chief Lawson was yelling solely at him. James remained frozen for a few more seconds before he snapped out and ran towards the hatch, Chief Lawson following a few steps behind him. There was a ladder leading to a small platform some ten meters below. Two of the remaining scientists were using the ladder, but James and Chief Lawson knew that with the suits and help of the thrusters short jump of ten meters was nothing, so they jumped down and joined their team before the last scientist let go of the ladder. James looked around but could not find any buttons, doors, or levers; the walls around them were naked, nothing but yellowish alien-looking moss that had grown over time. Moments later, the creatures started moving again, like someone flipped a switch and came after the hatch. Panic spread across the crew as Chief Lawson and his team prepared to fight the creatures in this pit. Getting stuck in this pit now seemed like a not-so-smart move. Moments later, one of the creature¡¯s heads poked above, and they all started blasting it with their suits, but it was ineffective as more and more creatures peaked over at them. ¡°I am going to try and lure them away somehow,¡± Chief Lawson yelled over comms. ¡°Use that time to try and find a way in. There must be a reason why the hatch opened.¡± ¡°It¡¯s a suicide mission, and we don¡¯t even know if there is anything below,¡± James answered. ¡°I don¡¯t see another way,¡± Chief Lawson said, but before James could protest further, a loud sound of metal grinding on metal filled the pit, and the hatch above them closed. It was complete darkness for a few seconds before the light flickered and lit the pit, now a metal box. Before they could process what was going on, they felt the floor beneath them disappear. It startled James, he thought someone had removed the floor, and they were in free fall. Only after looking down and seeing his boots were still on the same floor did his brain process the fact that they were in some elevator. Less than a minute later, the lift stopped, Chief Lawson and his team looking around for any threat, ready to combat it head first. Wall behind James hissed and slid apart, spilling into a dimly lit hallway. ¡°What the hell is this,¡± Chief Lawson asked. ¡°No idea,¡± James answered, stepping in front of the scientists towards the hallway. Chief Lawson stopped James with a hand across his chest. ¡°Let me, Captain,¡± Chief said and gestured his team to follow in tight formation. James nodded and followed closely behind, telling the rest of the crew to follow closely. The hallway was comfortably wide. Five people could easily walk next to each other, which was almost twice as high. There was only one way to go, so they followed the hallway forward for five hundred meters, their suits keeping track of the distance and location. James enabled one of the suit options to track their position and map their surroundings. ¡°Stop,¡± Chief Lawson said. ¡°What is it, Chief?¡± James asked. ¡°Never mind, it¡¯s just a shadow.¡± Chief Said. ¡°The hallway splits in two shortly ahead. Follow us.¡± Chief Lawson said and gestured his team ahead. James reached the splitting a few seconds after Chief Lawson and his team. The left side seemed like a ded end, another greyish wall without any markings, handles, or anything, while the right side led into a bigger room, an opening. Chief Lawson gestured forward without a word and held his arm in front of him if he needed to engage the enemy. James knew it was the right way, but he could not hide the fact that it looked ridiculous. Chief Lawson was a military man, they learned to sweep the rooms with guns, and he held his arm in a similar position even though there was no gun. There was no need for one at the moment as the suit could produce enough energy blasts for small combats. They made big guns for ground combat, but they were heavy, and this planet was supposed to be long dead. Chief Lawson entered a massive room with high ceilings and started sweeping it for enemies. To James, it was apparent there wasn¡¯t anyone here in eons, but Chief had to do his job. This huge room was primarily empty, dust covering most of the staff left behind. It seemed to be some laboratory left behind in a hurry. While Chief Lawson and his team cleared each corner and all the side rooms away, James started exploring independently. All the equipment left behind had markings in an Alien language that his visor had problems translating. Qhiks did mention that the Ellads language was not fully figured out. Scientists quickly spread around the room and started exploring on their own. James walked into one of the rooms with two beds on the far wall, or at least he guessed those were beds. The room was lit only by the lights coming from the main room and hallway, so James used his suit¡¯s night vision to look around. He found pieces of equipment, picked them up from the table but quickly returned them, he had no idea what they were for, and there were people here that knew what to do with the equipment found there. James was lost in his thoughts, slowly exploring the room, when his night vision flashed brightly. It took him a few seconds to realize what was going on. Someone had turned on all the lights, and not only them. Most of the equipment that lay dead only seconds ago was buzzing with various sounds now and coming alive. ¡°Who did that?¡± James said as he rushed out of the room he was exploring. ¡°It wasn¡¯t ut,¡± Chief Lawson said, and the rest of the crew confirmed shortly after. Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site. ¡°It was me,¡± An unfamiliar voice said. ¡°Who said that?¡± James asked. ¡°Me,¡± The voice said. ¡°I said that, and I turned everything on.¡± ¡°Where are you?¡± James asked, looking around the room, unable to spot anyone. ¡°Show yourself!¡± James yelled while Chief Lawson was directing his squad on the other side of the room to look for the source of the voice as well. ¡°I can not show myself as I, how to put this, do not really have a body.¡± The voice said. It sounded human but was still a bit out of place. ¡°What do you mean you don¡¯t have a body?¡± James asked, unsure where to look, so he fixated his eyes on the ceiling. It felt natural to him. ¡°This might be easier for you,¡± The voice said, and one hologram jumped out from one of the pieces of equipment in the middle of the big room. The hologram showed randomly colored shapes that jumped in rhythm with the voice as it spoke. ¡°Now you can see me somewhat.¡± ¡°What are you? Are you Ellad?¡± James asked, now looking directly at the hologram. ¡°No, huh,¡± Voice said and let a sound similar to a laugh. ¡°I am Artificial Intelligence that Ellads created.¡± James stood silent for a moment, looking at his crew members, who were all as confused as he was. ¡°How are you still working? Aren¡¯t Ellads dead for eons now?¡± ¡°I was asleep. A few millennia ago, I put myself to sleep when it became clear that Ellads were not coming back. I was so lonely; I could not escape this solar system,¡± The AI said. ¡°I set the timer to wake me up every fifty years to see if anything has changed, but something malfunctioned, so thanks for waking me up, humans. That¡¯s what you call yourself, right?.¡± ¡°Yes, we are humans. How do you know that?¡± James asked. ¡°I went through your suits and ship data to learn as about you as I could. That¡¯s why I was a little bit too late, and you had to fight off my guard dogs, as you would say, both here and in space,¡± the AI said. ¡°You control those creatures outside. Why did you attack us?¡± Chief Lawson joined the conversation. ¡°Yes, I control all planetary and solar system defenses on top of many other things,¡± The AI said. ¡°And I am sorry about that. It was a long sleep. Some things were left on automatic, and it took me some time to regain full control. I also had to see who you were and if you meant harm.¡± ¡°We don¡¯t mean harm,¡± Captain James said. ¡°I know that now. I saw that you have Ellads DNA inside of you. You must be one of their child races, and by the level of your advancement, I would guess you are one of the newer ones,¡± The AI said. ¡°So, what are you doing here?¡± ¡°The Qhiks sent us,¡± James said. ¡°Long story short, we were attacked by one race called Kraz¡¯ox, saved by another called Anoi, then somewhat freed by Qhiks who gave us a brief history of the universe and shared some of their previous technology with us, but we have to do some exploring for them, and that¡¯s why we are here. Qhiks want to know what happened with Ellads, and we are doing the work.¡± ¡°Interesting,¡± The AI said. ¡°The Qhiks, you say. Hmm, never liked them, but yes, they are indeed descendants of Ellads, same as you, but you have far more similarities with the Ellads than them.¡± ¡°Before we continue, our ship is in orbit. Is it intact? Is my crew ok? Also, comms do not work at the moment. Did you do that?¡± James asked. ¡°Ohh, sorry, yes, I blocked the comms instructively.¡± The AI said and buzzed for a moment. ¡°There you, restored. You can contact them now, they are fine. They destroyed a few of my drones. You are a feisty race, aren¡¯t you?¡± ¡°Well, we beat your monsters on the ground, and they beat your drones in space, so you are not really good at your job.¡± Chief Lawson added. ¡°Ohh, don¡¯t think so highly of yourselves. I was barely functioning on twenty percent of my power as I was rebooting.¡± The AI said. ¡°And they barely beat ten ships, and you barely beat 10 of my guardians. I have thousands more in orbit, and you saw just a fraction of the army on the surface. So do you want to go for round two, Chief?¡± James excused himself for a second while Chief Lawson and AI did a measuring contest. Entering one of the smaller rooms away from the noise, he tried to contact Pegasus, and this time it went thru. One of the bridge staff answered his call and quickly got Chloe, who apparently was in battle herself. They did a quick recap, her telling him that no one in space was injured and that they only suffered minor damage to the ship, nothing that couldn¡¯t be fixed in a few hours. Unfortunately, James informed her that they were not as lucky as some creatures attacked them and that Dr. Vasquez was killed in the conflict. He explained where they were now and that they stumbled onto an ancient AI that acted too human for his liking. They exchanged a few more sentences on what to do, and James went back to the large room. ¡°Ok, two of you, it¡¯s enough,¡± James said. ¡°AI, we need some answers and information about Ellads. What do you know?¡± ¡°I need answers as well. I know very little. I was asleep for a long time, remember?¡± AI said, and James could swear he heard a condescending tone in AI¡¯s voice. ¡°So you are useless to us, is what you are saying?¡± James provoked the AI. ¡°Ohh, wow, that is rude.¡± The AI said. ¡°I still have far superior knowledge from Qhiks of everything that happened up until the point I went to sleep and compared to you. Hmm, let me find a human analogy,¡± The AI buzzed for a few seconds. ¡°Ah yes, I am to you as you are to, hmm, let¡¯s say, fly on the wall. No, even worse, you are like ameba!¡± Yes, that¡¯s perfect cooperation! If I were a human, you would be an ameba, a simple organism, ¡° The AI said and produced a sound resembling a human chuckle. James and Chief Lawson shared a look. This AI was strange, the look said. Before James could think of an answer to such a provocation, the AI buzzed again. ¡°Uh-oh,¡± The AI said in a weirdly human tone. ¡°What is it?¡± Captain James asked. ¡°We have a visitor,¡± The AI said. ¡°How much do you know about The Void humans?¡± ¡°We know as much as Qhiks shared with us,¡± James answered. ¡°It¡¯s basically the opposite of the Source, which is what Ellads used, and it seeks everything the source touches to destroy and devour it.¡± ¡°Hmm,¡± The AI hummed. ¡°That pretty much sums it up. The Void is bad, like really really bad.¡± ¡°Yes, we know it,¡± James said, and a thought popped into his head. ¡°By the look at your face Captain, I think you figured out who our guest is,¡± The AI said. ¡°The Void is entering this system as we speak.¡± ¡°But why?¡± James Asked. ¡°We didn¡¯t use the Source in our technology.¡± ¡°That would be my mistake,¡± The AI said. ¡°Some of our defenses and planetary structures use the Source, and instead of selectively waking up only the ones that don¡¯t use it, I awoke everything, my bad.¡± ¡°Fucking hell,¡± Chief lawson cursed in frustration. ¡°How much time do we have before it¡¯s here?¡± James asked. ¡°3 hours and 25 minutes,¡± The AI said. ¡°Well, we better hurry up and go,¡± James said. ¡°Note everything you can in the next 25 minutes, and we leave,¡± James instructed his crew. ¡°You have to take me with you,¡± The AI said. ¡°Don¡¯t leave me here to get devoured by that thing. I need to know what happened to my creators, I can help you get the answers you need, and maybe together, we can stop that thing from doing any more harm.¡± ¡°Hmm,¡± James considered for a second. ¡°How do we take you with us? Haven¡¯t you infiltrated our systems already?¡± James asked. ¡°Yes, I did, but I can not stay there. I can infiltrate, but Ellads made some restrictions. I can not replicate myself without a host inviting me in first,¡± The AI said. ¡°Like a vampire, you need to invite me into your home.¡± ¡°You are beyond weird,¡± Captain James said. ¡°Fine, I think we can use you.¡± ¡°Great, great,¡± The AI said. ¡°Invite into your ship.¡± ¡°No, that¡¯s too much control. We don¡¯t know you like that still.¡± The Captain said. ¡°You are welcome into my suit and only into my suit operative system.¡± ¡°Fine,¡± The AI made an annoyed gasp. ¡°I am coming in.¡± 20. Parasite ¡°We gotta go people, hurry up.¡± Captain James yelled over the comms. ¡°We have plenty of time, relax. Let them get everything I said. We will need it.¡± The AI, now part of his suit, said directly to James. They already had three arguments in less than five minutes. One of them is for AI not to interrupt him while speaking to his team. ¡°God damnit, I am already regreting the decision to let you in!¡± James said with a sign of frustration. ¡°Calm down Captain, your vitals are off the charts.¡± The AI said. ¡°You will get a heart attack.¡± James just sighed, arguing with the ancient AI was pointless so he continued to gather some of the machinery that AI instructed him to. He picked up a grayish box that weighed at least fifty kilograms, but with the suit¡¯s help, it was like picking up a child¡¯s toy. James fiddled with the box, switching it from under one arm to another. ¡°Easy there Captain,¡± The AI echoed inside his suit once again. ¡°It¡¯s a delicate technology, don¡¯t break it!¡± James did not bother to answer as he stood at the entrance of the alien laboratory, his heart racing as she checked the remaining time before Void would devour this entire solar system. ¡°Come on, people,¡± James called out once again, ¡°we need to move faster.¡± His team was scattered throughout the lab, grabbing as much equipment as they could carry. But they were moving too slowly for his liking. ¡°We¡¯re almost done here, Captain,¡± the AI replied, with an annoyingly cheerful voice for a machine. ¡°But we need to be careful. Some of the equipment is delicate. And some of you are real grunts.¡± A short time after AI was finally satisfied with everything they could carry away and Chief of Security Lawson instructed his team to escort the expedition out of the lab towards the hatch, while he and Captain James waited for everyone at the door. ¡°That¡¯s everybody,¡± Chief Lawson said and Captain James nodded. ¡°Let¡¯s go.¡± They raced out of the lab, moving as fast as they could while carrying this additional load. The AI reassured James that there was plenty of time, but the only thing that was on Captain James¡¯s mind was void, it hunting him in his dream and the rest of humanity under the paw of Kraz¡¯ox on Earth. If they fail here if the void engulfs them what would be the faith of Humanity? James did not trust the Qhiks in the slightest but he and the others, including Chloe, Meng, and Luitenant William saw a way out of this mess through them. Front of the expedition led by Charlie one of Chief Lawson¡¯s most trusted team members quickly reached the elevator that would lead them to the surface. The team quickly filled the large platform some of them resting the equipment they carried on the ground. ¡°How do we activate the elevator?¡± James asked the AI. This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. ¡°Just a second,¡± The AI answered, and the elevator buzzed into function. ¡°Wait!¡± Chief Lawson yelled. ¡°What about the monsters on the surface?¡± Lawson directed the question at the AI but looked straight at Captain James. ¡°Don¡¯t worry about them, they are good boys as you humans would say.¡± The AI answered throughout the comms so everyone could hear him. ¡°They will help us.¡± The elevator ride was short. James could not even gather his thought before they reached the surface. To his surprise, the menacing creatures they fought a short time ago now were playful, running around the hatch, crashing into each other, and most importantly ignoring them. ¡°I see where your ship is located.¡± The AI said. ¡°We are going to use Qholops to carry both you and the equipment.¡± ¡°Qholops?¡± James asked. ¡°The big dogs with spikes and horns you see here Captain.¡± The AI answered. All of a sudden Qholops stopped playing with each other and turned towards the team, slowly gathering around them. Chief Lawson did not like that and prepared his blasters aiming them toward the monsters. ¡°What¡¯s going on Captain,¡± Chief Lawson asked. ¡°The AI said they are going to help us,¡± Captain James answered. The creatures lay on the ground, like a Camel did when it was about to be mounted by a person, and retracted most of their spikes. ¡°Go on, climb the Qholops,¡± The AI said through the comms. ¡°I am not climbing that thing,¡± Chief Lawson said. ¡°It killed one of our own and we have buggies right around the hill.¡± ¡°First of all, I am sorry about that,¡± The AI said, actually sounding sorrowful. ¡°That was unfortunate, the Qholops are programmed to defend this planet against all threats. Now you are not a threat anymore and they are here to help. Second of all, you don¡¯t have buggies anymore they were destroyed while you fought them here and even if they were not, riding these creatures is the fastest way towards your ship.¡± Chief Lawson reluctantly agreed and the expedition slowly mounted the creatures carrying the equipment in their hands. ¡°So these are also robots?¡± Captain James asked the AI. ¡°Robots? Not exactly.¡± The AI answered. ¡°They were biological life form that was infused with the orange stuff you call Source and some simple programming. When not under the influence of the program they act like normal animals, but once something happens that triggers the code, they act accordingly.¡± Qholops carried them toward their ships via a different route, but the AI assured James it was the fastest way. ¡°Why can¡¯t I reach my ship?¡± Captain asked. ¡°Are they ok?¡± ¡°Oh, sorry Captain. I jammed your signal. It¡¯s lifted now.¡± The AI said. ¡°They are fine, they fought some of my drones and won somehow, impressive for such a backward species. ¡°Does every compliment have to come with an insult with you?¡± James asked the creature before trying to contact his ship. ¡°Pegasus, this is Captain James speaking. Do you copy?¡± A few seconds later familiar voice finally came through, and James felt instant relief. ¡°We can hear you loud and clear Captain,¡± Chloe said. ¡°Are you guys ok, what the hell happened?¡± ¡°You won¡¯t believe me when I tell you,¡± James said. ¡°We are on our way up soon and then we will talk, we do not have time to waste the Void is here.¡± ¡°We know, we saw it,¡± Chloe said. ¡°We were just debating how long to wait for you guys before we leave, we lost your signals some hours ago after the comms went down.¡± ¡°You should have already left,¡± Captain James said. ¡°But thanks for waiting for us. See you soon in person.¡± James closed off the comms towards the Pegasus and informed the expedition that their ship and crew members were fine. ¡°She sounds lovely,¡± The AI said. ¡°I already like her.¡± ¡°Unlike you, she really is,¡± James said. ¡°I have to give you a name so I can cuss you off accordingly. For now, I am thinking parasite.¡± ¡°Because I don¡¯t have a body and need you to survive?¡± The AI said. ¡°That¡¯s clever Captain, maybe even slightly funny.¡± The AI tried to imitate a laugh. A few minutes later they were at their landing site and their ships were not harmed. The AI said if it took him a few minutes longer to wake up the ships would have been gone too. They boarded the equipment and fired up the engines in a hurry. ¡°We are on our way,¡± James said to the Pegasus over the comms. 21. The Plan James pondered everything that happened ever since they left Earth on Pegasus. The dreams, Alien artifacts, the AI. Their mission was a success but was cut short by an unexpected threat of the Void. The Void had entered the solar system they were in and was heading straight for them. The journey to the Pegasus was fraught with tension. The Void was closing in fast, and every second counted. James''s mind raced with thoughts of the safety of his team, and the fate of their ship as well as humanity as a whole. When they finally caught sight of the Pegasus, Captain James felt a rush of relief. The ship was waiting for them some short distance from the original destination. They quickly docked their ships and boarded Pegasus. ¡°It¡¯s good to see you, Captain,¡± Chloe said, ¡°What happened down there?¡± ¡°Good to see you too Chloe,¡± James said with a smile. ¡°Weird things, what¡¯s status with the crew, is everyone ok?¡± ¡°Everyone is ok at our side, we had a small skirmish here. We were attacked by the alien platforms defending the planet, but they went idle once again.¡± Chloe said. ¡°So I¡¯ve heard from our new friend,¡± James said. ¡°New friend?¡± Chloe asked curiously. ¡°We found an ancient AI in the lab down on the planet,¡± James said. ¡°He controls most of the things on and around the planet. He asked for a ride, so we brought him with us.¡± ¡°Where is he?¡± Chloe asked. ¡°Inside my suit,¡± James asked. ¡°For now.¡± ¡°Hello Ms. Chloe,¡± an unfamiliar voice said directly to Chloe through comms. ¡°I am the ancient AI in question, we really don¡¯t have time to further introductions now with Void being after us and all.¡± ¡°Hello,¡± Chloe said. ¡°I agree. Let¡¯s get out of here.¡± ¡°Captain,¡± The AI said. ¡°Your ship is rather big, do you mind if I bring a few of my controlled drones, the old ones without the source so void doesn¡¯t follow us,¡± AI asked. ¡°I guess we could use any help we can get,¡± Get them inside but hurry up. ¡°They are already at the door, just open the hangar door,¡± The AI said. James agreed and allowed almost thirty AI-controlled drones to dock in his ship¡¯s hangar. James rushed to the bridge and ordered the ship to move away from the void before they decide on the location for their jump. ¡°Where to Captain?¡± Chloe asked him. ¡°Can the void follow based on our hyperdrive?¡± James asked the AI. ¡°No,¡± The AI answered. ¡°It¡¯s only able to follow the source. But just to be sure we should jump two or three times once we leave this system to cover your tracks.¡± ¡°I was thinking the same thing,¡± Chloe added. ¡°Yeah¡¡± James said with a sigh. If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it''s taken without permission from the author. Report it. ¡°Where do we even go?¡± Chloe asked. ¡°We can not get to Earth just like that, the Kraz¡¯ox will be waiting for us.¡± ¡°Well¡¡± The AI said through comms for everyone to hear. ¡°I can help you get rid of the Kraz¡¯ox occupation, but I will need something in return.¡± ¡°How? and what?¡± James asked. ¡°I need you to help me find out what happened with my creators, I need a ship and a crew. And also I will need you to build me a body.¡± The AI said. ¡°How would you help us get rid of the Kraz¡¯ox?¡± Captain James asked. ¡°Well¡ I was thinking we visit a few of the old Ellad¡¯s systems.¡± The AI said. ¡°I will start my investigation of what happened to my creators and build you an army from whatever I can find of the old technology without the source.¡± ¡°And you are sure you can beat them and liberate Earth?¡± James asked. ¡°I could probably beat them with a little modification to Peagasus.¡± The AI said and the crew shared a few looks with each other, the offer was tempting. ¡°How do we know you won¡¯t betray us once we reach the next Ellad system?¡± Captain James asked. "I will keep my end of the bargain, Captain James," it said. "I know what your situation is, I kinda feel sorry for you Earthlings with everything that happened to you in the past few years." ¡°Let¡¯s just jump away and we the crew will talk about it and make a decision.¡± Captain James said ordering the crew to prepare for the jump to a nearby system.¡° Once they arrived at their new destination Captain James had given them all time to consider the offer before convening a meeting in the ship''s conference room. "I know this is a lot to take in," Captain James said as she sat at the head of the table. "But we have to decide whether or not to take the AI''s offer. I want to hear your thoughts on the matter." The crew exchanged glances, each one weighing the pros and cons of the proposal. The AI had promised to help them get rid of the Kraz''ox, but in exchange, it required their assistance with an unknown mission, getting them deeper and deeper into the secrets of the universe and everything it held. "I''m not sure about this," Chief Lawson said, his brow furrowed in concern. "We don''t even know what we''re dealing with here. For all we know, the AI could be leading us to our demise." "I agree," Eric chimed in. "And even if we gather an army there is no guarantee we can free Earth, maybe we anger them even more and make our lives back home a living hell." The room fell into a moment of silence as the crew considered the risks. But then, XO Chloe spoke up. "Look, I understand the concerns," she said. "But we''ve been searching for a way to get rid of the Kraz''ox ever since we created our division. And if this AI can help us do that, then we owe it to ourselves to try." The other crew members nodded in agreement, and Captain James smiled. "I''m glad to see that some of you are open to the possibility," He said. "But we still need to be cautious. We don''t know what we''re getting ourselves into." The crew spent the next few hours discussing the AI''s proposal, weighing the risks and benefits of accepting it. In the end, they decided that the potential rewards were worth the risks, and they agreed to move forward with the plan. ¡°So¡¡± James said to the AI. ¡°We accept your offer but under a few conditions.¡± ¡°And those are?¡± The AI asked. ¡°Liberating Earth is our priority, we go and gather an army of your ships and drones and as soon as we have enough we go and get rid of the Kraz¡¯ox, and then and only then we go and help you with whatever you need.¡± Captain James said. ¡°I will personally go with you and stay with you as long as you need.¡± ¡°Deal,¡± The AI said. ¡°What about my body?¡± That was not a focal point of their earlier discussion and giving a body to an unknown ancient AI felt dangerous, but James agreed, one problem at the time. ¡°Where to?¡± James asked the AI. The system the AI gave the coordinates to was in a remote and desolate area, far from any known civilization. According to the AI that was the System the Ellads used way before they started experimenting with the source and was abandoned due to its location, being far from every other system Ellads populated and it was not worth building gates for this alone system. The AI calculated their jumps to the shortest amount of time. The trip there and back to Earth with all the jumps, missions there, and a few other stops before they gather an army would take at least six months if everything goes according to plan. James did not like abandoning the Earth for that long, but they had no other choice, he managed to convince himself this was the only and best way for the future of humanity. 22. The Far Away As Pegasus left the Solar System and Kraz¡¯ox returned from the fake threat the humans instigated, things changed for the worse for humanity. As soon as Kraz¡¯ox realized that something had left the Solar system while they were occupied with the threat and that one of their scout ships was missing on top of that, they started investigating everyone. Meng felt a knot form in his stomach as the Kraz''ox interrogated him and the other members of the International Space Station. He knew that they were looking for answers about what had happened that day, who set up the false alarm of Anoi ships and he feared that they would discover the truth about the Pegasus and their secret base on the South Pole. Meng and others had been instructed to keep their involvement in the Pegasus project a secret at all costs, but with the way Kraz¡¯ox had been pressing them, Meng feared someone would break eventually. Despite the fear that gripped him, Meng remained calm and collected during the interrogations. He stuck to the story that they saw real Anoi ships and just sounded the alarms, if anything shady was going it was the work of the Anoi, that they somehow hacked their systems. Days turned into weeks, and the tension on the International Space Station continued to mount. The Kraz''ox were becoming increasingly aggressive in their questioning and general behavior towards humans. Mens was not allowed the leave ISS and go back to Earth, but he had heard from various sources that the Kraz¡¯ox were not as friendly as they once were. There was no tolerance toward humans anymore, there were more and more conflicts between humans and the occupiers and the Kraz¡¯ox were not merciful anymore, best case scenario you were sent to one of the remote work camps or killed in the conflict. The situation of the South Pole Statio did not change much. Luckily for them, they were not discovered by the Pegasus launch so they continued with their work further. By the time Pegasus left they were almost halfway done with the second ship, called Vanguard. The only thing that has changed is that they have kept contact with everyone outside the station at a minimum. No one was allowed to leave the Station nor come in before Pegasus returned. ********* Captain James and the crew of the Pegasus had been traveling through the vast expanse of space for what felt like an eternity. As they flew through the inky blackness of space, the days and nights began to blend together into one long, never-ending journey. The monotony of the voyage had begun to take its toll on the crew of the Pegasus, leaving them feeling isolated and alone. Captain James felt a sense of dread gnawing at his gut as he thought about the people left behind on Earth. He couldn''t help but wonder what had become of them and whether they were safe under the Kraz''ox occupation. The thought of not being there to help them made him feel helpless and vulnerable. The rest of the crew felt similarly uneasy. They all had families and friends back on Earth, and the thought of never seeing them again was a constant source of anxiety. Despite their fear, they knew they had a mission to complete, and they were determined to see it through to the end. On their way toward the old Ellad system, the AI made several detours to abandoned space stations left behind by ancient civilizations. The AI collected all the data from the station in hopes of finding something he was missing on what happened to his creators. More important to Captain James and the earth was the fact the AI was also collecting old technology before the Ellads started using sources. They amassed a large fleet of drones and battleships and two large cruisers that they decided to leave behind and pick up on their way back to earth. Captain James spent much of his time in his quarters, poring over maps and data provided by the AI. He was determined to make the most of the resources at his disposal, and he knew that every decision he made could mean the difference between success and failure. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the Pegasus arrived at the coordinates of the solar system provided by the AI. They scanned the area for any signs of life but found only silence and emptiness, no one was here ever since Ellads left the planet alone. "Attention crew of the Pegasus," announced AI over the ship''s intercom. "We have arrived at the designated coordinates, and I am pleased to report that we have located the long-abandoned planet of the Ellads. Our scans have indicated that there are still remnants of their civilization on the planet''s surface, and I believe this could provide valuable insight into the fate of my creators." Captain James nodded in agreement. "Understood. But before we go down to the planet, we need to make sure it''s safe. Are there any potential threats we should be aware of like the creatures on Eluphea III or your Drones and Stations around the planet, I have to ask one more time?" You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author. ¡°Captain James, we have been over this a hundred times and I apologized even more,¡± The AI said trying to imitate boredom with his voice. ¡°There is nothing down there, this planet was used way before Ellads started using the source, so there is nothing but some animals on the planet.¡± ¡°Fine,¡± Captain James said. ¡°I had to ask, crew, let¡¯s get ready for the finale of our mission.¡± The crew nodded in agreement and started making preparations to send a team along with the AI down to the planet''s surface in order. As they descended, they couldn''t help but feel a sense of excitement and curiosity about what they might find on this mysterious, abandoned planet. This time they decided to only take one ship and bring no scientist with them. Just a quick in-and-out mission consisting of Captain James and AI inside his suit, Chief Lawson, and four members of Lawson¡¯s team. James once again left Chloe, his XO, in command of the Pegasus until they returned. They descended onto the planet''s surface, their spacecraft hovering above the lush green forests and crystal-clear lakes. The moment they stepped out of the ship, they were greeted with the sounds of wildlife and the sweet scent of local flora. "Wow, this place is beautiful," said one of Chief Lawson¡¯s crew members, awestruck by the scenery. Chief Lawson nodded in agreement. "It''s hard to believe there are so many beautiful planets out there." Captain James turned to the AI in his suit. "Are you sure we''re in the right place? I thought this planet was supposed to be devoid of all life, only a few animals and some vegetation scattered around the planet." "Yes, Captain," the AI responded confidently. "This is the correct planet. But it appears that life has managed to thrive here after Ellads abandoned it." James nodded, slightly amused at the AI''s surprise. "Alright then, let''s get to work." The team carefully made their way through the lush jungle, following the guidance of the AI. The atmosphere was thick and humid, and the sounds of wildlife echoed through the trees. The team had their weapons at the ready, but the AI assured them there were no known threats in the area. After a few hours of trekking, they finally reached the research facility. The building was overgrown with vines and moss and a pinkish plant James could not recognize, but the structure still seemed intact. They cautiously approached the entrance, scanning for any potential dangers. As they entered the research facility, the team was met with a dimly lit hallway by the sun the shine through the windows and cracks in the walls. As they reached the first room out of the hallways the AI detected that a large amount of equipment was missing from the facility. "Captain, it seems that someone has beaten us to this facility," the AI reported to James. "Are you sure?" James asked, his grip tightening on his weapon. "Yes, Captain. The equipment that was supposed to be here is no longer present," the AI replied. James frowned, his mind racing with the possibilities of who could have taken the equipment. "Alright, let''s split up and search for any clues. Be cautious and report back to me if you find anything," he ordered. The team split up and began searching the facility. As they moved deeper into the facility, they found more and more evidence that someone had been there, and to AI¡¯s surprise, it was recently. At first, James didn¡¯t notice it but with the guidance of AI, he noticed patterns in the strange Alien equipment and its missing pieces. After a few hours of searching, the team regrouped to report their findings to James. "Captain, I found this in one of the offices," Chief Lawson said, holding up a piece of equipment that did not look as old as the one in the facility. James took the device and examined it. ¡°What is this, he asked the AI?¡± ¡°To be honest,¡± The AI said. ¡°I have no idea, there is no reference to this device anywhere in my database.¡± ¡°What do we do now?" James asked. ¡°I think it¡¯s best we leave right away,¡± The AI said. ¡°I found nothing in the devices I was able to infiltrate, finding the truth will have to wait. Let¡¯s go and liberate your planet I can see you were all on the edge, the whole trip.¡± ¡°What about this device?¡± James asked. ¡°Bring it,¡± The AI said. ¡°It might lead us to who was here before us.¡± James nodded and the team quickly gathered what they could and made their way back to the ship. James'' mind was buzzing with questions and theories about who could have taken the equipment and what their intentions were. After returning to the Pegasus, Captain James gathered the entire crew for a meeting to share their findings. They discovered that the research facility had been raided prior to their arrival, but it was unclear who or what caused it. However, the team did find an unknown device that even the AI couldn''t identify the origin of. It was clear that something was going on and the AI was right to come here, so they needed to be extra cautious on their way back to earth. As the Pegasus prepared to leave this faraway solar system, the crew couldn''t help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension about what lay ahead. They had a long journey ahead of them back to Earth and once there was a difficult task of liberating their home world. Finally, they initiated the jump, and the stars streaked past as they hurtled through the vast expanse of space. 23. Crossroads Meng had noticed another shift in Kraz¡¯ox''s behavior a few months after the Pegasus mission began. Along with the regular crackdown on humanity, interrogations, and constant check-ups, the Kraz¡¯ox seemed more nervous than usual, at least to Meng''s eyes. He had seen a significant increase in the number of Kraz¡¯ox military ships entering the Solar System, positioning themselves at various strategic locations. When he attempted to ask the Kraz¡¯ox about it, they remained secretive, revealing no information. Despite having made personal friends with several Kraz¡¯ox over the years, even they kept him at a distance during these past few months, only reassuring him that he had nothing to worry about and that the military presence wasn''t aimed at humans. Meng''s growing unease was shared by the rest of the team responsible for the Pegasus launch. The team became increasingly paranoid in the months following the first human ship''s departure as the Kraz¡¯ox crackdown and checks continued to intensify. Eventually, the ISS team decided to cut all contact with the South Pole Station to avoid any risks of the Kraz¡¯ox discovering the secret human base. If Captain James and the crew of the Pegasus failed with their mission, the team knew that the station''s second ship, which was close to being finished, might end up being humanity''s only hope for freedom. ********* The journey back to Earth from the abandoned Ellad world where their mission had failed was tedious and uneventful. Along with traveling vast distances in space, they initiated jumps as soon as their drive was ready, all while feeling increasing anxiety and worry about how to liberate Earth. They had put all their trust in the Ancient Ellad AI to help them free Earth with the aid of the old abandoned Ellad technology. Captain James became less certain of their mission after the AI''s failure on the distant Ellad planet. However, the AI reassured James that he could easily dismantle and destroy the entire Kraz''ox army, even if they sent every last ship they had at their disposal. The AI claimed his intelligence exceeded anything humans, Kraz''ox, or any other species could comprehend. As they traveled back, they acquired a large Ellad cruiser ship, a class Destroyer with heavy weaponry that AI thoroughly checked, along with hundreds of smaller drones and scout ships. In addition, they picked up two slightly smaller attack vessels than Pegasus. Their fleet to liberate Earth from Kraz''ox occupation now consisted of Pegasus, one enormous cruiser, one destroyer, and two attack vessels. They named the large cruisers Eclipse and the class destroyer Nova, while the two smaller attack vessels were called Thunderbolt and Vindicator. Once they reached the dead zone of space, where no permanent civilizations existed according to AI, they conducted military exercises using one of the planets in the star system as a mockup of Earth. The AI used all available information about Kraz''ox ships and positions to create simulations, expanding some of his drones to resemble Kraz''ox vessels. They conducted three exercises in five days, with the AI taking one day to set up the next test and recalibrating the drones to make each test more challenging. In the first exercise, they managed to eliminate all the Kraz''ox ships but lost Pegasus, Eclipse, and both Thunderbolt and Vindicator in the process. The second exercise was also successful, but this time they lost Eclipse and Vindicator. In the third exercise, they only lost Eclipse. The large cruiser ship Eclipse was a problem because it had huge weaponry but was slow in close combat near a planet. Usually, they came in big armadas, with one or two large cruisers providing heavy fire cover while dozens of destroyers and smaller ships covered large space beasts. After finishing the exercises, they resumed their journey back to Earth, with one month separating them from their biggest battle yet. The team once again found themselves in the conference room, the meeting called by the AI himself. ¡°Captain James,¡± the AI opened the meeting in a solemn tone. ¡°I have a suggestion that you might not like.¡± Captain James sighed inwardly. Quibble had always been an annoyance, but he had also been an invaluable asset to their mission. They had argued for well over three days before James finally gave the AI a name, and "Quibble" seemed to fit due to his tendency to quibble over everything James said. The name had stuck throughout the ship. Unauthorized reproduction: this story has been taken without approval. Report sightings. ¡°What is it, Quibble?¡± James asked, trying to sound patient. ¡°I think it¡¯s best if we send two or three people to each of the ships,¡± Quibble said. ¡°Yes, I can run everything, yes, I am almighty, but I need monkeys to physically press buttons for me. I think that way we can save all the ships and liberate the Earth almost certainly.¡± James raised an eyebrow. ¡°Where is this coming from?¡± ¡°I¡¯ve run simulations based on the training we have done,¡± Quibble continued. ¡°And if there are people on four of our big ships doing the tasks I assign them, I can focus more of my power on drones and other things, and we can win the battle easily.¡± James looked around the room, trying to gauge what everyone thought, but their tired faces gave him no clue. ¡°Fine, I guess, if you say it will help.¡± ¡°It will,¡± Quibble said, trying to sound reassuring. ¡°I want Chloe and Eric on Nova. I want Chief Lawson and Roanne on Eclipse.¡± Quibble continued to assign two more members to each of the attacking vessels. James checked with the crew, but they had no objections to it if it truly helped them liberate Earth easier and not lose any ships in the process. All of them knew and were willing to accept the risk of boarding the old Ellad ships and going into a battle with them. Over the next few wekks, Quibble worked tirelessly, teaching the crew members about their assigned ships and the tasks they were supposed to do. He went over every detail with them, drilling them until they could perform their duties in their sleep. With seven days left until they reached the edge of the Solar System, they punched in the final sequence of jump coordinates and prepared themselves for the battle of their lives. The ship hummed with anticipation as they hurtled through space. Once they reached the edge of the Solar System, they would send one of the Ellad drone ships piloted Quibble to send the secret signal message to ISS and SPS that they were back and that they had brought the backup. ****** Meng awoke to alarms blaring all across the new International Space Station. Meng''s heart raced as he hurried through the dimly lit corridors. Alarms blared all around him, signaling danger. He could hear the frantic footsteps of other crew members rushing to their stations, but he had no idea what was happening. He caught hold of a passing Kraz''ox and demanded an explanation. ¡°What¡¯s going on?¡± He yelled so the alien could hear him over the alarms. "They are here," Kraz''ox replied, his voice urgent. Without another word, he broke free from Meng¡¯s grip and sprinted down the hallway. Meng''s mind raced. Who could possibly be arriving in the Solar System? Was it the Pegasus, is Captain James and the crew back? He shook his head, trying to think clearer. It was unlikely, but the possibility nagged at him. When Meng arrived at the main room, he found a group of humans gathered around a screen displaying a live feed of the Solar System. Their faces were etched with worry, and Meng''s heart sank. "What''s going on?" he asked, his voice strained. "Some ships just jumped into the Solar System," a lanky man with messy hair answered. Meng couldn''t remember his name, but it didn''t matter. "We don''t know whose they are yet." The man continued Meng''s mind whirled with possibilities. As the crew scrambled to gather information and prepare for the worst, Meng couldn''t shake the feeling that something was off. He gathered all the people that were familiar with the South Space Station program and the Pegasus launch and decided to break the radio silence towards the SPS. He orders everyone to meet in his quarters in fifteen minutes. Seven of them gathered and hurdled around in Meng¡¯s quarters. ¡°Are you sure you want to do this?¡± Nathan asked. ¡°If we break the radio silence now, they can track us if the alarm is for nothing.¡± ¡°I think it¡¯s for the best,¡± Meng answered his heart racing. ¡°Alright,¡± Nathan said and continued to type on his pad. Less than thirty seconds later they had an established connection with South Pole Station. ¡°South Pole Station, do you copy?¡± Meng said. ¡°Meng here, here do copy?¡± ¡°Yes,¡± The voice crackled through the comms. ¡°We can hear you, what is going on?¡± ¡°Kraz¡¯ox is on high alert, alarms are blaring all blaring all across the ISS, do you have any information as to what is going on?¡± ¡°We are seeing the ships enter the Solar System, but we do not have visuals yet.¡± The response came from the SPS. ¡°One of our satellites will be in a position to get visual in less than a minute. The minute that followed felt like an eternity to Meng and his crew. They waited with bated breath as they listened to the silence on the other end of the line. Finally, after what seemed like an agonizingly long time, the voice on the other end spoke up again. "Meng, we have visual confirmation," the voice said, and Meng felt his heart sink. He something bad was coming next. "It''s the Anoi Armada," the voice continued. "They''ve entered the solar system. We''re picking up thirty or more battle-ready ships." Meng felt a wave of despair wash over him as the reality of the situation sank in. The Anoi were back with an armada and if they had come all this way, it could only mean one thing: they were looking for a fight. ¡°Wait,¡± The voice from SPS said. ¡°We are picking something else, a message.¡± ¡°What message?¡± Meng asked anxiously. ¡°It¡¯s Pegasus.¡± ¡°What?¡± Meng was shocked. ¡°Where are they?¡± ¡°Wait for a second, decrypting the message.¡± The line went silent for a few seconds. ¡°They are saying, we are back and we have our own fleet. We see the Anoi and the Kraz¡¯ox, we are liberating the Earth today, get ready to help!¡± Meng felt a wave of euphoria wash over him. ¡°It was a damn time,¡± Meng exclaimed. ¡°Let¡¯s get ready to help our boys and girls and free our planet!¡± 24. Battle For Earth The Pegasus comms crackled to life, and Quibble''s voice sounded urgent. "On your mark, Captain." James surveyed the radar and read the scouting vessel''s reports. He allowed Quibble to use the comms freely during the impending battle. "We wait a little bit more," James said, his voice low and serious. "Let them fight each other. As long as the Earth and the ISS are in danger, we wait." His eyes darted across the screen as he searched for any new developments. The tension in the air was palpable, and James couldn''t help but worry about the safety of the Earth and the ISS. He knew that they had to be patient and wait for the right moment to strike. "Aye, aye, Captain," Quibble responded, his voice crisp and professional. "I am going to get closer to the Earth. I doubt they will notice me as they are busy fighting each other." James nodded in agreement. "Go ahead." Quibble piloted the scouting ship with ease, and it zipped towards the Earth. James watched with bated breath as the ship drew closer and closer to their home planet. The blue and green hues of the Earth''s surface filled the screen, and James couldn''t help but marvel at its beauty. As the ship approached, James noticed Kraz¡¯ox reinforcements that were coming in from their nearby sectors. They positioned at least a dozen of them around the new International Space Station, their new command center for this system. Some of his anxiety was washed away knowing the fact that Kraz¡¯ox would defend Earth and the ISS as if it was their own due to their own people being there. He tore his gaze away from the screen and looked around the bridge of the ship. The walls were lined with computer consoles, and only the swift movements of the crew could be heard. James could see the determination etched on his crew''s faces as they waited for his command. "Steady on," James said, his voice echoing through the ship. "We wait for the right moment. ******** ¡°Meng, what is the word?¡± Lieutenant William Grant crackled through the device. ¡°We are still waiting for more instructions from Pegasus,¡± Meng said. ¡°They said they brought backup and are ready to fight both of them.¡± ¡°Keep me posted,¡± Lieutenant William Grant said. ¡°Of course sir,¡± Meng said and cut the call. Meng had said some of his crew to spy on the Kraz¡¯ox that were occupied with the battle. As he awaited reports his device buzzed again. He was about to get frustrated with another call when he saw an unknown id that said, the savior of the human race. Meng accepted the call. ¡°Who is this? How did you reach me on this encrypted device?¡± ¡°Easy peasy,¡± an unkown voice said. ¡°Your encryptions are child''s play for me.¡± The voice said laughing. ¡°This is God calling, I am here to help.¡± ¡°I don¡¯t have ti-¡± Meng began saying but the unknown caller cut him off. ¡°Oh my, easy there. You humans are so tense under pressure,¡± The voice said. ¡°I am the mighty AI that Captain James found on their mission. He says hi. We are here to help you liberate yourselves from these pests.¡± ¡°An AI? What?¡± Meng was beyond confused in this mess of a day. ¡°Yes, yes Mr. Meng,¡± Quibble said. ¡°Captain James found me and we made a deal, I will help him liberate earth and he will help me with my thing. I am bringing several ships and a lot of drones.¡± ¡°So, what¡¯s the plan?¡± Meng asked still unsure if this was some kind of trick. ¡°Captain James is waiting for the right moment, he wants them to waste each other first before we jump in,¡± Quibble said. ¡°I am here to keep an eye on things. Well, I am both here and there, I that good.¡± ¡°Makes sense,¡± Meng said. ¡°What can I do to help?¡± ¡°Do you have any additional information we could use?¡± ¡°I sent some of my crew to spy on Kraz¡¯ox. I am still waiting on those.¡± Meng said. ¡°As soon as you get them, forward them to me,¡± Quibble said. ¡°I am going to continue circling around.¡± Meng took a deep breath trying to calm himself and got up from his seat to go investigate some on his own. ****** ¡°Anything new?¡± Captain James asked. ¡°Same as when you asked 20 seconds ago,¡± Quibble said annoyingly. ¡°They are fighting each other, earth and the ISS are safe for now.¡± ¡°Any news from Meng?¡± James asked. ¡°No,¡± I am still waiting Quibble said. ¡°Wait, he is calling me.¡± Quibble hummed for some reason over the comms for everyone to hear, a tune familiar to James but he couldn¡¯t place where he knew it from. ¡°Good news and bad news,¡± Quibble continued. ¡°Which one do you want first?¡± ¡°Just tell us,¡± James said frustration building in his voice. ¡°What is wrong with you?¡± ¡°Oh my, relax Captain.¡± Quibble knew James hated when they told him to relax, so he had to do it. ¡°Good news is, all of the humans are safe and they have no idea we are here.¡± ¡°What¡¯s the bad news,¡± James asked before Quibble could continue. ¡°Bad news is, Kraz¡¯ox will get back up soon,¡± Quibble said. ¡°Two big armadas are nearby, one will arrive in three to four hours, the other one within the next ten hours.¡± ¡°That¡¯s not good,¡± James said pondering his next step. ¡°I think we should act now.¡± ¡°About damn time Captain,¡± Quibble said imitating the sound of crackling fingers. ¡°Is everyone ready,¡± James asked and confirmation came from everyone almost instantly. ¡°Quibble takes us in,¡± James said proudly, and the AI engaged the hyperdrive. Pegasus appeared close to the earth, but on the other side of the conflict. James quickly looked over the radar and gouged their situation. He noticed a small skirmish of three Kraz¡¯ox destroyers and their smaller ships, battling Anoi Cruiser and two Destroyers near them. ¡°Seeing what I am seeing Captin?¡± Quibble asked. ¡°Yep,¡± James said. ¡°That¡¯s where we announce ourselves. Everyone get ready¡± James paused for a second and took a deep breath. ¡°Go, Quibble has the command now, listen to him, I will overrule him if he tries anything stupid.¡± ¡°Nice trust there Captain,¡± Quible said mockingly. ¡°Everyone, we had practiced this, I am doing most of the heavy lifting here, just follow my instructions and we will run through them with ease,¡± Quibble said trying to sound motivational. ¡°On my mark, three, two, one, go.¡± Pegasus shook as Quibble drove it full speed toward the small skirmish. James watched in awe as Quible fired up a swarm of his drones and rushed them at the Anoi cruiser. The AI positioned Elipse far back as a heavy support, he didn¡¯t want to jeperdisy it in a small squirmish, Destroyer Nova and Peagasus went straight ahed at the enemy, wihle two smaller attack ships Thunderbolt and Vindicator were flanking the enemies from both sides with the sawm of drones. It was visible that both the Anoi and Kraz¡¯ox were surprised by the sudden appearance of Peagasus and four unknown ships. They ceased fire for a second and before they could react Quibble¡¯s drones started barraging the Anoi ships. Kraz¡¯ox noticed that and took what they thought was an unexpected ally to start fighting the Anoi again. Anoi ships took defensive formation and started firing at Quibble¡¯s drones and two attack vessels, but Quibble¡¯s piloting was immaculate. Not a single drone was lost before he managed to disable both all of the Anoi ships. They made a deal, if it¡¯s possible Quibble would go for the enemy¡¯s drive and weapons to disable the ships and would only turn to full destruction as a last resort. As both of the Anoi ships were immobilized James felt a wave of reassurance that this crazy plan could actually work. ¡°Captain, the Kraz¡¯oxs are hailing us,¡± Troy said looking over from his chair next to James. Troy was appointed as XO in the absence of Chloe and Eric who Quibble put on the Nova for the battle. ¡°Put them through,¡± James said. ¡°Do you want me to talk to them?¡± Quibble joined in the conversation. ¡°No, I¡¯ll handle this you focus on the fighting,¡± James said. ¡°You take us into the main battle,¡± James said to Quibble. ¡°Troy, open the comms toward the Kraz¡¯ox,¡± ¡°Yes, Captain!¡± She said and pressed a few buttons in front of her. Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. An unfamiliar voice echoed through the bridge. ¡°This is Kraz¡¯ox cruiser ship, Admiral Treoiuox speaking, please identify yourselves!¡± James cleared his throat before answering. ¡°This is Captain James Barnes of the first human interstellar ship Pegasus I!¡± James made a short pause. ¡°We are here to help clear the Anoi thread and then we will talk further,¡± James said with a confident voice. ¡°First human ship?¡± Confusion could be heard in Admiral Treoiuox''s voice. ¡°Where did you get one and what are those other ships, we don¡¯t have them in our database?¡± Admiral asked. ¡°No time to explain now,¡± James said. ¡°We need to use the advantage of surprise we have, continue fighting the enemy all the same, and we will take care of the business,¡± James said and cut off the comms. ¡°That was¡ so cool of you Captain,¡± Quibble said half-jokingly. ¡°We will engage in the main battle in less than a minute, everyone get ready to follow my command if necessary,¡± Quibble said and reorganized ships into a new formation not letting Anoi get any tactical advantage from the previous skirmish. Quibble easily weaved in and out of the enemy fire, using the five bigger ships only as a cover for the drones. One by one the Anoi ships were destroyed or incapacitated and left floating in space. A few of the remaining Anoi ships started to full-back down and initiate hyper-jump away from the Solar System and the Quibble allowed them to do so, he wanted survivors to tell the story of what happened here today to the rest of their civilization. With the Anoi threat gone, they were left to deal with the original enemy, the Kraz¡¯ox. ¡°Any ideas what to do next, Captain? Start fighting right away or?¡± Quibble asked, his voice betraying a hint of excitement. James furrowed his brow, deep in thought. ¡°Let¡¯s try to talk with the first and see how they react,¡± he said, trying to sound as confident as possible. He turned to Troy. ¡°Open the comms back towards Admiral Treoiuox and the Kraz¡¯ox cruiser.¡± Troy nodded, his fingers dancing across the console. ¡°Comms are open, Captain.¡± ¡°Admiral, this is Captain James speaking,¡± James said, his voice echoing through the bridge. ¡°We have helped you clear the Anoi threat and we would like to speak peacefully on where to proceed from here. Please disarm your ships, and we will do the same.¡± The bridge fell silent as they waited for a response. A tense minute passed before a crackling voice filled the air. ¡°Pegasus battleship, this is Admiral Treoiuox speaking,¡± the voice said, deep and commanding. ¡°I have the authority to speak with you openly. We would like you to power off your ships and allow us to board you.¡± A wave of anxiety washed over James at the request. ¡°Once that is done we can talk freely,¡± the Admiral added. James hesitated, unsure of what to do, before he could think of an answer Quibble joined the conversation but made himself muted towards the Kraz¡¯ox. ¡°I don¡¯t think we should allow them to do that,¡± Quibble said. ¡°We have the upper hand, tell them to leave Earth or power their ships down, if they refuse we fight,¡± Quibble continued. ¡°I am afraid I have to agree with Quibble,¡± James said and the rest of the crew nodded knowing well what it meant. James waited for a moment before speaking to Admiral again. ¡°Admiral Treoiuox I am afraid we can not do that. We are here to liberate the earth and we have two options. You can power off and disarm your ships and we can talk about some sort of a plan for your departure from the Solar System and resolve this peacefully or we can fight and you can suffer the same faith as the Anoi.¡± James said trying to sound unsettled by the words he was saying. Thirty seconds passed and no answer, then a minute, then two, and before a five-minute mark as the tension was almost visible in the bridge Quibble finally spoke. ¡°Captain they are firing up their rail guns, I am starting the evasive maneuvers.¡± And as Quibble finished dozens of blasts from Kraz¡¯ox railguns rushed towards the Pegasus and the crew. Quibble was caught off guard by the blitz attack from Kraz¡¯ox but he managed to evade all but one of the railguns. Nova was hit badly, James immediately opened the comms, but not before instructing Quibble to start fighting them. ¡°Chloe, Eric are you ok?¡± James asked, and as he waited for the answer, a knot formed in his stomach. ¡°Captain we are ok,¡± Chloe¡¯s voice came through. ¡°Both of us are good, minors scratches, but the ship is done,¡± Chloe said panting. ¡°Those motherfuckers,¡± Quibble said. ¡°I am sorry for not reacting better, they will feel my wrath now,¡± Quibble said and launched all the remaining drones that were left behind. He stormed Admiral Treoiuox¡¯s ship first with most of his drones and cover fire from the Pegasus. Kraz¡¯ox changed formation trying to guard their admiral but Quibble navigated his drones with easy, finding the smallest cracks and their formation and sacrificing drones where it was necessary. Several of the drones broke through defenses and found them selves eye to eye with the enormous Kraz¡¯ox ship. Qubbile knew there was no point in firing at the ship, so he targeted vital parts of the Kraz¡¯ox command vessel and suicided the drones. ¡°Their drive, comms, and navigation is fried,¡± Quibble said. ¡°Let¡¯s take care of the rest.¡± There was a brief applause on the bridge before the crew returned to their station and overlooked the battle Quibble was masterfully leading. Just when the victory was in the sights as Quibble disabled the vast majority of the Kraz¡¯ox ship radars and alerts started blaring across the bridge. ¡°What¡¯s going on?¡± James asked unable to find any information on his screen. ¡°Wait for a second,¡± Troy said switching screens frantically. ¡°There,¡± He said pointing toward the hologram in the middle of the bridge. James took a look at the hologram and saw a large fleet of the Kraz¡¯ox ship. There must have been hundreds of them flying straight at earth. It was the backup Kraz¡¯ox called in order to deal with the Anoi. They expected them but this was almost half of their total ships coming to help, the numbers were overwhelming. ¡°Are you seeing this?¡± James asked worry etched into his voice. ¡°Yes Captain, I am not blind,¡± Quibble said. ¡°Any ideas?¡± James asked unsure of what to say. ¡°Yes, millions,¡± Quibble said. ¡°I will need you all to take control of the ships for new minutes until I focus my whole capacity towards the solution,¡± Quibble said. ¡°Don¡¯t die and don¡¯t destroy my ships.¡± James was caught off guard but quickly snapped out of it. ¡°Everyone at your stations and get ready,¡± James said to the crew on the bridge and the rest of the crew on the other ships. ¡°We evade their attacks until Quibble figures something out.¡± Confirmation came across the comms. ¡°I think it¡¯s best we separate,¡± James said. Everyone takes their own side, we will try to lure them away.¡° James flew the ship away from the Earth and towards Mars. Most of the Kraz¡¯ox ships flew after them some following Eclipse and two remaining ships. The fleet that was left was not an issue as Quibble dismantled most of them, but the reinforcements were quickly closing in. In less than five minutes the reinforcements fully closed in on them and started firing at the Pegasus. James managed to evade most of the hits but was getting surrounded as he flew the ship toward Mars. His only way out was closed by the sudden appearance of the Kraz¡¯ox cruiser that came out of the hyperjump. ¡°Shit,¡± James said. ¡°We are fully surrounded, Quibble we need help right now.¡± ¡°A few minutes more Captain,¡± Quibble said. ¡°We don¡¯t have a few minutes,¡± James yelled but Quibble said nothing. James looked for a possible way out as the ship started taking damage. Its shields were still holding, but it was a matter of minutes before they completely gave out and it was done for the Pegasus. He scanned the area and found one of the flanks guarded only by two smaller Kraz¡¯ox destroyers and several scout ships. ¡°There, James said poting at the radar.¡± Fly us there and concentrate all the fire on the smaller destroyer. The crew shifted and darted around the bridge and Pegasus changed course for ninety degrees flying towards the opening James saw. They concentrated all the fire on the vessel James marked and managed to hit it several times but in the process, their shields were done and they started taking heavy damage. They needed to destroy the other attack ship before they could escape, but with their shields down they needed to focus fire on the upcoming missiles in order to stay alive. As they neared the point of no return, their railgun was damaged beyond repair and the remaining gun power was not enough to break out of the Kraz¡¯ox circle. A wave of despair washed over James as he watched his crew¡¯s faces, they all knew what was going to happen in a matter of seconds and they had no other way out. ¡°Quibble now or we are dead,¡± James yelled and almost instantaneously the remaining Kraz¡¯ox destroyer was destroyed in a flash of light blue light. ¡°About damn time, James said and the crew cheered as they broke out of the Kraz¡¯ox circle. ¡°It wasn¡¯t me,¡± Quibble said. ¡°Who was it then?¡± James asked the incoming transmission blinked on the screen and James accepted it immediately. A familiar face appeared on screen, Lieutenant William Grant flashed a welcome smile. ¡°This is Lieutenant William Grant acting captain of a second human interstellar ship Vanguard speaking.¡± ¡°God damn it¡¯s good to see you, Lieutenant,¡± James said unable to hide his excitement. ¡°What¡¯s the plan, Captain?¡± William asked. ¡°We are wai-¡± Before he could finish Quibble finally joined in the conversation. ¡°Got it,¡± He just said and took control of the ship. ¡°Vanguard follow me back towards the earth. ¡°What¡¯s the plan?¡± James asked. ¡°You¡¯ll see in a minute Captain,¡± Quibble said. ¡°We almost died and you didn¡¯t help us,¡± James said angrily. ¡°I saw Vanguard coming to help you and calculated it was enough for you to survive before I finish what I was doing.¡± ¡°Why didn¡¯t you say anything then?¡± James asked frustration building inside him. ¡°I love dramatic moments Captain,¡± Quibble said. ¡°When they make a movie about us, this scene is going to be so good.¡± ¡°Stupid bot,¡± James exclaimed, but let it go, for now, it was time to win the battle according to the ancient AI. It took them ten minutes with all of the Kraz¡¯ox armies on their tail to regroup with the remaining ships and Quibble¡¯s drones. The Pegasus took the most damage by far but it was still functioning. ¡°Ok, watch this,¡± Quible said and stopped all of the ships in the tracks and rushed all of the remaining drones at the Kraz¡¯ox armada suiciding one by one. He crashed each drone in front of the Kraz¡¯ox ships but none of them were dismantled they kept on firing and coming at Pegasus. ¡°What are you doing?¡± James asked frantically. ¡°We are all going to die.¡± He yelled. ¡°Now, now Captain, a little trust,¡± Quibble said as the Kraz¡¯ox ships neared them. ¡°Three, two, one¡¡± Quibble said and all of the Kraz¡¯ox ships powered down at the same time. ¡°Ta-da,¡± Quible said as James watched in confusion. ¡°What happened? What did you do?¡± James asked. ¡°Miracle, Captain,¡± Quibble said imitating a chuckle. ¡°When I crashed at the Admirals Treoiuox¡¯s ship I managed to infiltrate their systems and their core. Their ships are not run by AI, but it does most of their automated functions for them.¡° Quibble said. ¡°And so I made hundreds of copies of myself, a lot dumber of course, and inserted them into the drones with only one goal. Once they crush into the Kraz¡¯ox ship they would look for a way to hunt down and destroy their AI giving me control of their fleet essentially.¡± Quibble continued. ¡°So in short, we have full control of their ships and the remaining Anoi ship we incapacitated earlier I took my time to infiltrate them as well.¡° ¡°Woah,¡± James said. ¡°That¡¯s actually impressive Quibble, even for you.¡± ¡°Oh thank you, Captain, you will make me blush,¡± Quibble said. ¡°There you go, Earth is safe as I promised! What do you want me to do with all of them?¡± ¡°Can you force a transmission to all of the Kraz¡¯ox and Anoi ships?¡± James asked. ¡°Yes of course, what do you have in mind?¡± Quibble asked curiously. ¡°You will see, give me a second,¡± James said and composed himself. ¡°Open the transmission and record me speaking.¡± ¡°Aye, aye, Captain,¡± Quibble said. ¡°We are ready!¡± James cleared his throat, put on a serious but friendly expression, and started. ¡°Dear Kraz¡¯ox and Anoi, I will need you all to listen very carefully now. You all have been played and have been fighting a proxy war for species older than all of us, who do not care for your civilization a single bit and see you as ants. They are fighting a war almost as old as the universe itself and are running away from an unimaginable terror I have seen with my own eyes¡¡± James continued his speech explaining everything they have discovered so far from the Qhiks to Ellads and their enemies and the threat of the Void itself, hoping to find a reason with the two alien species with a common enemy that can devour them in a matter of seconds. 25. Epilogue - What the future holds! Marcus sat in his Manhattan office, gazing out at the spot where Kraz''ox had landed almost four years ago. Quibble, an ancient AI, had chosen Marcus to lead one of the divisions tasked with learning more about the AI and how Ellads and other ancient civilizations had used them. Quibble had only given them a small portion of his code, less than 0.5%, but it was unlike anything Marcus and his team had ever seen. The scale and language were unimaginable to anyone prior to Quibble''s release of the code. As Marcus read through his team''s reports, he was interrupted by Adrian, his new colleague from the office next door. "Hey, we''re about to leave," Adrian said, peeking through the doorway. "Are you coming with us?" Marcus took a moment to look up and respond. "Sure, let me just finish up here. I''ll meet you in front in five minutes, okay?" Adrian nodded and left. On top of giving them a small portion of his own code, Quibble released all the documents on various research even with the heavy protest from earth¡¯s governments. The AI did not like how Earth¡¯s system of government was set so he released it to the public, without truly understanding how humans and humanity work he did not fully understand the possible consequences of his action. Amongst millions of documents released, there were instructions from zero on how to terraform planets, build floating cities, and make artificial gravitational fields on asteroids, ships, and space stations. The released documents also included numerous medical and other advancements that would help humans prolong their life spans and make their life easier, from cures to most of the known diseases to efficient and renewable sources of energy to simple things like easy water filtering systems that turn any water source into a hundred percent drinkable. Quibble had a good idea in his mind, but humanity did not work like that, the vast majority of the human race couldn¡¯t do much with those documents. That¡¯s why governments, big corporations, and wealthy individuals were already in a race toward the new world order. Marcus closed his laptop and walked out of his office to join his friends. They were headed towards the ceremony in the central park where Captain James, maybe the most famous human at this point in history, would be crowned admiral of the new Galactic Federation led by humanity and its other two founding members Kraz¡¯ox and Anoi. Three species fought a battle that nearly wiped out all their fleets six months ago and now they were officially forming their own alliance. Two other races were set to join now, former allies of Anoi, the Trox, and Poyours. The negotiations were long and tiresome before the two warring races were presented with undeniable proof that they were fighting a proxy war for ancient species and decided it was best they joined forces for now with Humans as intermediates between them. The park was packed with guests and reporters, but Marcus and his friends had seats near the front row as part of the AI research team. The podium was empty as they found their seats but quickly a young woman took the stand, she was part of the new United Nations that incorporated almost every country in the world, and only a few declined to join to this day. She briefly went over the day¡¯s program and introduced the next speaker, Earth¡¯s ambassador. Marcus thought that title was a little bit far-fetched and surely a man in his late seventies was not the best choice for the ambassador of Earth. But he had a soft and professional voice and an aura of calm around him as he spoke on goals and future plans for humanity and their new federation. A few more speakers swapped on the main stand before a thunderous sound broke the boredom of the crown as Pegasus I, the first human interstellar ship, broke into the atmosphere and hovered above the crowd as the crowd broke into cheers. Minutes later a smaller ship, the one used for landing, left Pegasus and landed behind the podium. The girl announced Captain James Barnes and his companion the ancient AI Quibble and the crowd gave them a standing ovation. Quibble was originally part of Captain¡¯s suit, but after the battle, they built him a body of sorts. For some reason, he was not allowed by his programming restrictions to have a humanoid body, so by his instructions, they build him a half-meter cube that could shift and change its looks. Captain James walked onto the podium with Quibble in his new form hovering slightly behind him and accepted his new role, as the first official and highest-ranked Admiral of the Galactic Federation. ¡°Thank you,¡± Admiral James said as the crowd¡¯s cheering died down slowly. ¡°Thank you for your trust!¡± Admiral James took a deep breath and continued. ¡°My fellow humans, Kraz''ox, Anoi, Trox, and Poyours, and all other beings present here today, I stand before you humbled and honored to accept the position of Admiral of the Galactic Federation. I don¡¯t know if I am the most qualified person for this job, but I will certainly give my best with every second on the job!¡± He said taking a short pause to compose himself. ¡°As we embark on this new chapter in our history, we must remember that we are not alone in this universe. Our actions affect not only our planet but also the entire galaxy. We must take responsibility for our actions and work together to create a better future for all who are part of this Federation and even those who are not.¡± A small applause broke out but James continued. ¡°As we work towards our common goal of peace and prosperity, we must also remember the lessons of our past. We must learn from our mistakes and work to ensure that they are not repeated. We must strive for equality and justice for all, regardless of species or background. The formation of this Galactic Federation is just the beginning. We must continue to work together, listen to one another, and build a better future for all. Let us take this opportunity to unite and create a brighter tomorrow for ourselves and for all those who will come after us.¡° The crowd broke into cheers once again as Admiral James and Quibble left the podium. Marcus found himself on the list of special guests who were invited to the gala later in the night. He didn¡¯t feel like going, but his position demanded his presence there. He pondered the words Admiral James said, they had a huge burden on their shoulders now as a species. But Marcus worried about the history of violence of the human race and the inability to be united through Earth¡¯s history it was only a matter of time before humanity realized what power they held. He worried for the future of his kids and what the unknown held for them. He wanted them to have a normal life, but that timeline was long gone and he and the rest of humanity had to accept that. It was time to adapt and do his best to help navigate humanity in these uncharted waters.
