 Prologue

    The darkness after death is something else, because after my death I only saw darkness but it wasn¡¯t anything creepy at all. It was calm and the darkness had the feeling of being embraced by a mother. Well that¡¯s what I felt, but I could be wrong too. Now in the darkness I started to think about my life before my death. I was an average human being who had day to day job, a family which only consisted of my parents and sister, as I have not married anyone, so I don¡¯t have a wife or children.


    My life was just a circle, going to my job enjoying my time with my family and going for trips with my friends. Like that days passed in my life and at the end of a summer I died due to an accident, the accident took place when me and my friends went to the beach. I don¡¯t want to go into detail of the accident, as far as I can remember after the accident we were taken to the nearest hospital and from what I heard was that all of us were in critical condition and that we may not survive.


    That was my last memory of my life and I didn¡¯t get the chance to see my parents or my sister for one last time and I regret it very much. I¡¯m sure that they will be mourning for me, I just hope that they will be able to move on from this incident and live their life. As the thoughts about my family was concluded I started think about what will happen to me from now on.


    I know that in theology it is stated that after death one will either go to Heaven or Hell according to how the person who died have lived their life and in some cases there is also the chance of reincarnation. If I do reincarnated then I want to live my life as I want it to be, because in my last life I lived as per the wishes of my parents but I don¡¯t regret that. Even if I have parents after reincarnation I will consider their opinion but the decisions will be made by me.

    As my thought process reached at that conclusion, I started to hear something. So I tried to find the source of the sound but I couldn¡¯t and I only found the direction of the sound was coming from. When I looked in the direction of the sound I found a glimmer of light, with that I started to feel encrusting pain. It was like I was pushed out through a pipe that have a small diameter than my body. I know that I have body after feeling the pain as I know that if I was just a conscious I wouldn¡¯t be able feel that pain. So I concluded that I have been reincarnated and this right now is the time of my birth. Realising that I started to pray to the God so that neither me nor my new mother will die due to my birth.


    Just after that prayer I was freed from the pain and I was being embraced by something, I believe that might be my mother as I started to feel safe and at the same time I started to feel tired, even though I didn¡¯t give in to the tiredness and tried to open my eyes as much as I can and thanks to my determination I was able to open my eyes and I saw my mother. She looked beautiful and the most striking feature of her was her ears, which are situated right above her head and it looked like cat ears. Just as I was observing her, she was also observing with a smile and she said ¡°Your name will be Rath.¡±

 Attack

    It¡¯s been five years since I was reborn in this world. This world doesn¡¯t have an official name, but the continent in which I have been reborn is known as Avalon. Avalon is divided into nine different countries and the Darklands where the monster race resides. The continent is dominated by six different species, they are Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Beastkin, Giants and Merfolk.


    My family is of the beastkin species, Tiger beastkin to be precise, and I¡¯m an odd one in that as I am a mutant of our species. My mutation is that I have a single claw that will pop out from my knuckles.


    Even though I¡¯m a mutant my father and mother didn¡¯t abandon me but became so much protective of me. And my brother who is older than me by five years has shown reluctance in having to carry me around or to watch over me, but that melted away within the two months after my birth.


    My father¡¯s name is Eric, he is a hunter and the provider for our family, my mother Robin takes care of me and my brother, and she is the protector of our family. My brother Ralph is ten years old now and father has promised to take him out for his first hunt in the forest.


    We are not living in a village due to my mutation, the villagers are all superstitious and believe that I would bring bad luck to them and my family. They even tried to persuade mother and father to abandon me, when that didn¡¯t work they tried to kill me. So in retaliation my father and mother fought with them and injured quite a bit of the villagers and left the village.


    We live in the Silverwood forest which is in the outskirts of the Kingdom of Elves, Everglade. This forest is shared by Everglade and Prideland, which is the Kingdom of Beastkin.


    Even though the forest is shared between the two kingdoms, Silverwood is mostly left alone in order to let the wild animals thrive and also for settling down of nomadic people.


    As I was thinking about all that, I heard the door creaking, so I looked towards where the door is, fully knowing that it''s not time yet for father and brother to return after their hunt. As for my mother, she came running inside from the backyard as soon as she heard the sound of door creaking. Heightened senses are the best.


    The door slowly opened and we saw five people standing out there cautiously. They are not Beastkin or the Elves, they are humans and they are armed to the teeth.


    Looking at us the one with a greatsword spoke "Well, well, well look what we have here."


    Trouble was brewing, and I''m not afraid of them. Some might wonder why I don''t fear them, well the answer is simple.


    If there is a mother tiger and her cub present, don''t show any kind of hostility, because that''s the one way ticket to meet the Death God. And right now these guys are practically oozing out of hostility, and looking at them I muttered under my breath "Poor bastards."


    Right after I said that, my mother jumped on to them and started to fight them in close combat.

    In the world of Avalon, the Silverwood forest that is shared by the elven kingdom of Everglade and the Beastkin kingdom of Prideland is a vast, enchanted woodland that is steeped in magic and mystery.


    The forest is a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees, with a wide range of species that thrive in the fertile soil and temperate climate of the region. Many of the trees have silver-toned leaves or bark, which gives the forest its name and gives the area a distinctive, shimmering quality when the light filters through the canopy.


    In this forest we can see two Beastkin walking down a path, one adult and the other is a kid.


    The kid is dragging along a boar that is almost as big as the kid himself, and the adult is dragging along an adult moose. Looking closely we can also see the resemblance between these two Beastkin.

    As they were dragging along the carcasses of the animals, they were talking to each other. To be precise, the adult Beastkin was talking and the kid was replying after thinking for some time.


    "So what did you understand from your first hunt, Ralph?" A muscular man, he has green eyes and orange hair asked the kid next to him, who has yellow eyes and orange hair.


    "I have to stay vigilant every time." Ralph said grumbling.


    "Yes, you have to be on your toes whenever you''re going for a hunt. Whether the hunt is for food or hunt to kill." The muscular man said.


    "Yeah dad, I get it." Ralph replied to his father.


    Smiling softly at Ralph, Eric said "What I have taught you is the same thing that my father had taught, and I have added a spin of my own."


    "But you didn''t teach me how to transform." Ralph grumbled again.


    Shaking his head Eric spoke "Look kiddo, we Beastkin will only be able to transform at the age of fifteen."


    "But, Rath transformed right after his birth, didn''t he?" Ralph asked.


    "He did. But, in my thirty years of life he is the only one I have known who can transform before the age of fifteen." Eric said. Sighing he kneeled in front of his eldest son so he could see him eye to eye.


    Looking into his eyes Eric said "But after that one transformation he hasn''t transformed till this day. That was because of his mutation."


    "I know that¡­. But¡­. But if he transforms before I can, I won''t be able to protect him from others!" Ralph said.


    Sighing at what Ralph, Eric was about to say something, but was interrupted by a powerful roar.


    *ROARRRR*


    Hearing that, both Eric and Ralph shuddered at the same time and looked towards the origin of the sound.


    Looking in that direction, Ralph said "Mom''s angry."


    "Yeah." Was all that said by Eric, then both of them darted towards their house which is where the sound originated from.

    With a roar that could devastate a dozen people, my mom started to attack them with all she got. As for me, I just stayed away from it as I didn¡¯t want to do anything related to the fight.


    But that was just wishful thinking of mine as one of the guys strayed away from the group and just disappeared from there. Seeing that I concluded that he must be an assassin, because stealth is one of the main abilities of an assassin. So I increased my five senses to its maximum, and thanks to my mutation my sensory skills are much higher than a trained adult in the village.


    It didn¡¯t take long for me to find him and he was creeping up behind my mom, as she had already taken care of two people and there was only the greatsword guy and a guy with a bow were remaining, so I loudly shouted at her ¡°Behind.¡±


    Hearing that, the two guys looked at me with wide eyes and the assassin tried to slice my mom¡¯s neck, key word tried.


    Just as she heard my shout, she did a roundhouse kick on the assassin without even looking back and then she pounced on the two guys who had been stalling her just like a tiger would.


    The guy with the greatsword tried to block her, but she was fast and had more power in her hands, so her clenched fist had struck the man square on his chest and he fell down like a doll that got its strings cut.


    Just as he fell down the man with the staff shouted ¡°Ice Prison!¡±


    It was a spell that contained the power of ice and it easily stopped mom on her tracks for a few seconds. That momentary gap was all he needed as he disappeared from the entrance of the house and appeared at the trail leading into the forest.


    But before he could sigh in relief, he was hoisted up into the air by my father. Looking at him dad said ¡°Where do you think you¡¯re going?¡±


    Then looking at my brother Ralph he said ¡°Go and check on Rath.¡±


    Ralph just nodded and hurriedly ran towards me with a face full of worry and concern. Just as he reached me he started to check for any injuries on me without saying a word.


    While he was checking upon me, the ice started to crack up and a second later it shattered into a lot of pieces. Shaking off the water from her body, she looked at me and Ralph. Seeing that both of them are fine she smiled and turned around to face dad and said ¡°I will take this guy.¡± Pointing at the man with the greatsword, then pointing at the remaining unconscious guys she said ¡°You will take these three.¡±


    My dad didn¡¯t say anything but nodded his head and dragged away those three along with the wizard he caught at first. Seeing that I had a single thought ¡®What are they going to do with them?¡¯

    Chapter 1 End

 Trouble

    It didn¡¯t take long for my mom and dad to come back from whatever they were doing with those five guys, but thanks to my enhanced senses I smelled blood from them. But I didn¡¯t ask them what they found out or what they did to them, because a five year old should not be asking those questions.


    As they reached the house, dad looked around and said ¡°We need to repair the house.¡±


    Mom just nodded at him, then she came near us and said ¡°Are you two alright?¡±


    ¡°We¡¯re okay.¡± Ralph said.


    I didn''t say anything but just nodded my head to her question, indicating that I''m alright. Seeing that she smiled and ruffled my hair, then looking at Ralph she said ¡°We will be restarting your magic lesson from now on, so be ready for it.¡±


    Then looking at me she smiled and said ¡°You will join too, as your brother started his training when he was five years old.¡±


    Hearing that I smiled, as that means I can access the mana that is present in this world and also I can know my elemental affinity too.


    As I was thinking that dad said, ¡°And Ralph will be training with me in martial arts from now on.¡± Then looking at me dad said ¡°When you''re ten I will train you in the way of martial arts too, so don''t worry.¡±


    I just nodded at him, but I couldn''t shake off the feeling I¡¯m getting because of the attack by those five people and also the eagerness of mom and dad to teach us magic and martial arts. ¡®Something is going on, but I don''t know what it is.¡¯


    Looking at our parents Ralph asked ¡°What''s going on?¡±


    ¡®Good work bro, now I don''t have to waste my time thinking about it.¡¯ As I praised my brother for asking the question silently, I also looked at our parents with a curious face.


    Shaking her head, mom said ¡°I''ll let you know when you are able to transform. Until then it will be intense training.¡±


    After saying her piece she went to the backyard to do what she had been doing before those guys came here to make a ruckus.


    As her shadow was out of our sight, dad spoke with a cheerful smile ¡°You guys don''t have to worry about anything okay.¡±


    As both of them went off to do their own things, I looked at Ralph and said ¡°Bro, show me magic.¡±


    Hearing that he smiled and said ¡°I''ll show you one magic trick.¡±


    Saying that he extended his hand and with a flick of his finger a small flame was produced on his palm. Looking at it he said ¡°I can only make a flame, because that''s the only element I have trained in out of the four.¡±


    With a smile I just nodded at him and hugged him. I said ¡°Thanks bro.¡±


    Hugging me back he slowly patted my head while saying ¡°You''re welcome.¡±

    In the backyard, we could see Robin tending to the plants that are present there and Eric was sitting on the steps, while watching her work.


    "Should we move our house?" Eric asked suddenly.


    Hearing the question, Robin stopped what she was doing and looked up to the sky and said "Not now. We will move when Rath is able to handle at least one element."

    Sighing, Robin said "Why are they always after our baby?"


    "Well, Rath is a mutant of our species, so it''s obvious that they will get a high price for selling him."


    As she got the answer to her question, Robin stood up front where she was and walked towards Eric.


    Reaching him, Robin turned around and sat down on his lap. As Robin sat down, Eric hugged her from behind.


    "You don''t have to worry, if anyone tries to do this again, we will just beat them up as we did today."


    "I know that, but should we always be running like this?"


    "That''s all we can do until Rath is able to freely use his transformation and magic."


    "So for ten more years we have to keep on running?"


    "Maybe, maybe not. Things will happen anyway, so why bother about that, let''s live the moment."


    With a long exhausted sigh Robin said "Eric, be serious. If you didn''t come at the right moment and if that mage was not a coward, he would have taken Rath."


    Wryly smiling at that Eric said "Then what should we do? We can''t solve this in any way, unless the three human kingdoms abolish slavery all together." Sighing he continued "But that won''t happen any time soon. So let''s just live our life with our kids, in this forest until our death or when both of them want to be independent."


    Robin just nodded at that and closed her eyes while making herself comfortable in her husband''s embrace.


    Seeing that his wife has chosen to remain silent, Eric slowly started to pat her, while thinking about the future.


    After some time, Eric carried Robin into their room and passed by Ralph and Rath who were playing with their toys.


    Looking at them Eric said ¡°Moms tired so I¡¯ll be the one to cook.¡±


    Just as they heard that both of them shouted at the same time ¡°We¡¯re not hungry!¡±


    Eric eyed both of his sons and said ¡°I know that my cooking is the worst. I will only reheat the meal we had for lunch.¡±


    ¡°Then we¡¯re hungry.¡± Both of them said that in unison shamelessly.


    Chuckling at their reply Eric said ¡°Alright boys, before eating dinner go and wash up.¡±


    ¡°Yes dad.¡± Saying that both of them ran outside towards the place where the water is stored for miscellaneous purposes.


    As his kids were washing up, Eric placed Robin on their bed and whispered to her ¡°Don¡¯t worry, no one can harm us.¡±

    At the outskirts of the Silverwood forest, which borders one of the human kingdoms, a man with a vertical scar on his left eye can be seen with his eyes closed.


    Around him stood ten people, all having the face of a veteran soldier. They were waiting for the man with a scar to speak first.


    Slowly opening his eyes he said "So those five also failed huh?"


    "Yes leader."


    "Mmm¡­ Any information on the ones who attacked?"


    "The assailants are two adult tiger beastkin. Both parents of the target have attacked them."


    "I can see that their parental instincts must have kicked in." Then looking at one of the ten people with a bow hung on his back he said "They have been on the run for the past four years, they will run now too. So track them down as we have done before, but at the same time keep the distance. The last two guys who tried to track them have never returned."


    "Yes leader, I will keep that in mind."


    Saying that the bowman started jogging toward the Silverwood forest.


    As he disappeared into the forest, the leader spoke "You guys are dispersed, come back when he returns."


    "Yes leader."


    The remaining nine people went in different directions, as all his underlings left him the leader picked up a sphere from his inner pocket.


    Sending a bit of Mana to it he said "Target acquisition failed."


    [Statistics?] Was heard from the sphere.


    "Five KIA. Have sent a tracker."


    After a bit of silence, the voice from the sphere was heard again [Target has to be in good condition, or you won''t get your compensation.]


    "Affirmative." Saying that he retrieved his Mana and pocketed the communication sphere.


    Then looking at the Silverwood forest he muttered "I''ll have him in my hands one day."


    After that he also disappeared from that spot.


    As the area around that place was free from the presence of humans, an orange bird flew off into the forest from the top of a tree that was near the meeting place of the humans.

    Chapter 2 End

 Runes

    Eric, who was sleeping beside his wife, slowly opened his eyes as he sensed the sound of something hitting the window. As he got up from the bed, making sure that his wife was not disturbed, he went towards the window and opened it.


    As soon as he opened the window, an orange bird flew into the room and preached on his shoulder. Looking at the bird he asked ¡°What happened?¡±


    *Chirp**Chirp**Chirp*


    ¡°Mm mm... they are persistent huh?¡±


    *Chirp*


    ¡°Yeah, that tracker will reach here within a day or two, I have to get ready. You can go.¡± Eric told the bird.


    *Chirp*


    With a chirp, the bird dissolved into his body.


    Ruffling his hair, Eric stood there while contemplating on what to do next.


    As he was thinking about that, he felt two hands wrapping around his waist, and a head the crook of his neck.


    Sighing, he fondly creased the hands wrapped around his waist and said ¡°Honey, they are coming again. We will have to redirect the tracker and move to another location.¡±


    ¡°Mmmm¡­.. Should I trap him like we did with the others?¡±


    ¡°No, this time we will redirect the tracker to the outskirts of the forest near the border of Prideland. The Baron and his soldiers will take care of him.¡±


    After that there was silence as both Eric and Robin did not speak anymore and just looked out of their room and watched their two sons sleeping soundly.


    The silence was broken by Robin as she asked Eric,


    ¡°Eric¡­. How long will we have to run like this?¡±


    Sighing Eric replied ¡°Until his transformation, or when the interest in him by the one searching for him dies down.¡±


    Then looking at her he continued ¡°Don''t worry, I''ve got some clues on the one who ordered those guys, I''ll find him or her soon, and we will make sure that they won''t be after our son ever again.¡±


    ¡°Yes, I can''t have my baby be raised in the shadow of fear.¡±


    After saying that both of them went back to their bed and fell asleep.


    As their breathing was stabilised indicating that they were sleeping soundly, a pair of green eyes looked at them through the gap of the door and muttered ¡°I think I won''t be able to live peacefully as accepted.¡±


    After muttering that the eyes stopped looking at Eric and Robin and blended into the shadows.

    The next morning, before Ralph and Rath woke up from their sleep, Eric and Robin went outside the house and started to write something on the ground in a circular shape whose center is the house.


    After finishing that both of them stepped out of the circle, then Robin raised her hand towards the circle and spoke in a different language.


    ¡°??????? ?? ???? ?? ?? ?????, ?? ??? ?? ???????? ????.¡±


    As soon as the words left her mouth the circle illuminated and slowly the house started to disappear and the same vegetation outside of the rune circle started to appear.


    Looking at the changing scene, Robin said "It''s done, only I and the ones I allow can see our house now, but like before it will only last up to one day."


    "That''s enough time for us to lead that man towards Prideland." Then looking at Robin he asked "You do have enough mana for that right?"


    "I do." Was her reply, then turning around she darted into the direction where the border is located.


    Seeing his wife''s impatience, he just shook his head and followed her closely.


    A couple of minutes later, the door of the house slowly opened and Rath came out, first he looked around to find his parents. Not seeing them, he concluded that they had ventured out to get that tracker guy.


    Sighing Rath muttered under his breath "Why are these guys after us in the first place? Is it because of me or because of my parents?"


    As he was thinking about that he saw a man in a hooded outfit arriving a couple of meters away from the house. Seeing that man, Rath froze as he knows that he doesn''t have any kind of power to stop that guy.


    Fearing that the man would hear the sound of his breathing he held his breath.


    But a couple of seconds later that man went in a different direction. Seeing that he released his breath and sighed in relief.


    Then he asked himself "Why didn''t that guy see me?"


    So he looked around his house with scrutiny making sure that he didn''t miss anything and he found some kind of letters written on the ground.


    As his curiosity was raised he went near it and squatted down to clearly see what was written on the ground.


    Looking at the symbols he thought ''Is this rune of this world? If so, why does it look similar to the rune from Norse Myth on earth?''


    As his thought process reached there, he shrugged his shoulders and muttered "Whatever, even if there is any kind of connection between this world and Earth, it''s none of my business. I''ll leave it my future self."


    Even after saying that Rath lingered around the rune circle for quite some time and went back to the house.


    "By the way, when will they be back?"


    Leaving the question unanswered, he went to the kitchen to see if there''s anything to eat, and luckily for Rath his mother had cooked meat stew before going.


    Serving himself with a bowl of meat stew he ate it like it was divine medicine and muttered in a low voice "There''s nothing like mother''s cooking, in any world. But I do crave some food and beverages from earth."


    As he came to realize that he craved food and beverages from his past life he thought ''Why don''t I recreate those dishes here? But, I''m sure that the ingredients will be different to get the same taste or I can try to match it. Oh well, even if I think about it deeply now, I won''t be able to cook it at all, as I don''t know which spices will be similar.''


    Just then he heard a creaking noise from the bedroom and heard his brother calling his name "Rath?"


    "I''m in the kitchen." Rath replied in a loud voice.


    As Ralph came into the kitchen he saw his brother eating meat stew alone, so he asked him ¡°Where''s mom and dad?¡±


    ¡°I don''t know, I went to their room but it''s empty.¡±


    ¡°Really? What are they doing by leaving us alone here?¡±


    ¡°How would I know? But brother, will you tell me how you hunted the boar with dad?¡±


    ¡°Of course I will.¡± Saying that Ralph went ahead and served himself a bowl of meat stew and sat opposite to Rath.


    Looking at Rath, Ralph started to describe how his first hunt went with pride. Rath on the other hand listened to what Ralph was saying earnestly because, one day he would have to go on for his first hunt, and it''s good to know important details from another person who has hunted at least once.
