《Behind an Empire》 Part One: About The Planet, The Moons & The Ring

Part One: About The Planet, The Moons & The Ring

The size of the planet is not yet really known and most citizens think it is a flat plane and not a sphere. It is a very water-heavy planet, and it only has two main continents; one continent is to the westmost part of the world and one continent is to the eastmost part of the world (though most think it is just a small island as it has not been explored by people.) There are two main stars in the sky used for navigation: the northern star and the southern star. The northern star changes from the colors blue and green over long periods of time; it is currently blue. The last known time it had switched from blue to green was in 1075 by Emperor HJalfdan Stenson of the Glacien Dynasty; it was previously blue 800 years before that in the year approximating 275. It was not due to change back to blue for another 800 to 900 years but changed around 500 years too early back to being blue in 1506. Many cultures have different beliefs about why it happened early, but the Glacien Dynasty has taken it as a sign that Princess Estrid Sifdoutir and Bodil Sifdoutir were gifts from the many gods that are worshiped by the Glaciens. The southern star stays constantly red. Did you know this text is from a different site? Read the official version to support the creator. The planet has two moons that orbit it, one small moon (about the size of Earth''s moon and gives off the same light at night that the Earth''s moon does) and one very large moon (about the size of Jupiter.) The small moon is a very pale lilac with deep scrapes across the surface that show dark maroon scars deep under the surface; its orbit is north to south. The larger moon is very large in comparison to the much smaller moon. It takes up almost the entirety of the Western viewpoint and it orbits from west to east; there are many colors on this moon. They go from shimmering blue areas to granular white areas to lush green areas; however, sometimes white or dark gray colors make it hard to see anything on the moon. The planet has a sun (that is about the color and size of Earth''s sun) that sets from the east-northeast to the west-southwest of the planet. The planet has just one ring around it that tilts from the west-northwest to the southeast of the planet. It is made from a shimmering white substance and glows lightly during the night; even when there is no moonlight, you can always faintly see outside with the ring. The sun and the ring basically make an X across the planet with the lilac moon to the north and the large moon to the east. Part Two: The General Geography of the World Part Two: The General Geography of the World
As I said in the last chapter, there are two main continents and only one is thoroughly explored. The continent has no name (as no one has claimed the entirety of the continent as their own yet.) The continent looks as follows: The northernmost spots on the continent are large purple ice glaciers. The people don''t know this, but if they traveled long enough, they would go from the northern ice glaciers to ice glaciers in the southern hemisphere of the planet. No one is stupid enough to do this though, as it would almost certainly cause death.
This is followed by icy (but liveable) tundra (think of Norway, Sweden, or southern Russia) for miles on end; the people are called Glaciens with the Glacien Dynasty ruling over it with an iron fist. Glacien Dynasty''s northern border is to the glaciers, the western border is to the ocean, the eastern border is to the San Ord¨¹aneteg Mountains, and the southern border is to the same San Ord¨¹aneteg Mountains. The general temperature in the summer is around 75F/23C and in winter it can get to below -25F/-31C (and even worse in really bad cold snaps.) There is farmable land and most people raise chickens/pigs/goats/cows for meat along with the general root vegetables and grains found on Earth. Most peasants use oxen as horses are not naturally found in this tundra. There occasionally are dogs, but the wolves are still being domesticated. Most people live in small towns or villages except those who live in bigger cities near castles. The males stupid enough to rape or coerce a female (slave or not) are gelded and sent to a small (and purposefully isolated village) in the very north to live out their days with any wife, concubine, sons, or daughters they may have; the sons are also gelded. There have been only two emperor''s sons that have raped a female (and yes, they were sent up to the village with their family, including their slaves) to send the message that no one is safe from this. There are runestones about previous emperors since 804, but the ones from 804 to 1268 aren''t legible anymore. All the knowledge is passed down by either story or song. Emperor Sigurd Ulfsohn is the first Emperor to write down his legacy
Other the other side of the northern face of the San Ord¨¹aneteg Mountains and on the eastern border of the Glacien Dynasty is a small basin that is completely surrounded by mountains. They mostly eat fish that they catch in the rivers or lakes there and salt whatever meat they can with salt bought from the markets in the Glacien Dynasty along with whatever grain that can be purchased. They sell "domesticated" wolves as pets, but some are not quite as tame as claimed. The general temperature in spring is 60F/15C and in winter it can get to below -45F/-45C. All people live in the one village that surrounds a massive lake. The village is called Iyashch Duchy. The Iyashchians are not allowed to go into any cities or towns (except ones with markets on the outskirts) or the markets on the shore after a "domesticated" wolf killed a concubine-born daughter of the reigning Emperor. However, they are still allowed to pass through The Gap of Tomorrow.
After the icy tundra, there is a very large mountain that basically cuts across the continent from the ocean on the eastmost coast and the mountain range it connects to on the westmost region; there is also a range that goes from the San Ord¨¹aneteg Mountains to the glaciers, it is called Little San Ord¨¹aneteg Mountains. It is called the San Ord¨¹aneteg Mountains and think of it like the Alps. It is not very populated as it is a very rocky and snowy mountain. It is treacherous to traverse in winter (or honestly live there at all, but some people are literally crazy enough to do it.) The general temperature in summer is around 30F/-1C and the general winter temperature is around -35F/-37C (and even worse in really bad cold snaps.) There are many blizzards here that make winter dangerous. The three mountain passes (one from Glacien Dynasty to Iyashch Duchy named ''The Gap of Tomorrow'' (because it''s a possibility that tomorrow won''t come if used from the fall snows to the spring melts), one from Glacien Dynasty to Pantano Ukaxa Swamp named ''The Notch of Smoke'', and one from Iyashch Duchy to Terra Salgada Marshes named ''The Path of Jewels'' (because while mining a stable path, Iyashch Duchy found some small gemstone veins)) are all dangerous from the fall snows to the spring melts as the snow and cold will basically freeze you in your path. Most people live in very tiny tent houses and usually eat goat for meat and whatever stored grains were purchased from either Pantano Ubaxa Swamp or Glacient Dynasty.
After the mountains being to level off to being more "normal height", they turn into a grassland plateau that is very much so just pure grassland. It''s got knee-to-waist-high grasses that support many wild herds of horses, bison, and antelope. It also has many almond trees, white mulberry trees, and red mulberry trees (along with spruce and pine trees.) The general temperature in summer is 50F/10C and 30F/-1C in the winter. It has many butterfly species, but the rarest are the Island Marble Butterflies (found on Earth at San Juan Island National Historical Park), and the second rarest are Chimera Birdwings (found on Earth in mountain areas of New Guinea.) It slowly turns into a mangrove swamp that of course, has a large mangrove forest. The general temperature in summer is 75F/23C and 55F/12C in winter. People live in cities/towns in both the grasslands and the mangrove swamp; both the grasslands and the mangrove swamp are considered to be part of the Pantano Ukaxa Swamp. There is no written history about their previous rulers. This novel is published on a different platform. Support the original author by finding the official source.
As the mangrove swamp goes further south, it slowly turns into a salt marsh. The salt marsh doesn''t have many trees, but it does have many types of birds, owls, rodents, and other small creatures that live in the short grasses. The general temperature in summer is 85F/30C and 60F/15C in the winter. It quickly turns into a salt flat with not many living creatures other than rodents that live in scrub brush and falcons that live in the occasional tree skeleton. The general temperature during the day is 95F to 105F/35C to 40C and 0F/-17C during the night. No sane person lives in the salt flats, but there are a few villages in the salt marshes, but they are quite rare. There is technically a ruling family, but they do not name themselves and no one knows exactly which village they live in; this is to protect the ruling family''s children from being targeted by pirates to be sold or bartered with. Any child stolen from the ruling family is to lie about what their name is. The name of the salt marshes and salt flats is Terra Salgada Marshes.
Past the salt flats is the start of the Sonsuz Ceza Desert; the desert is 530 leagues across from the northern border to the southern border. A camel can walk approximately 6 leagues per day; it will take a camel 75 days to travel from the salt flats in the north to the desert cliffs at the ocean in the south. The desert is 780 leagues across from the ocean on the western coast to the mountain range on the eastern border; it will take a camel 130 days to travel from east to west. There are many small tribal clans in the deep desert that are not under the rule of the Kalmark Sultanate. There are several oases in the desert, but by far the largest is the one that is 140 leagues into the desert. It has a lake that is approximately 4,000 surface acres wide with a depth anywhere between 40 feet and 300 feet deep; it is filled from a spring up in the mountains that is on the eastern border. The water flows from the lake all the way to the ocean. No other oasis is that big in the desert, most are basically tiny ponds or dug wells for people and animals to drink from. The largest palace and town is currently at the largest oasis that is 140 leagues into the desert (approximately a 20-day camel ride from the salt flats.) The palace is called Portam Palace and the town is called Abu Rufairi. But the next Sultan will be housed in a brand new palace that is near The Fractured Islands in a palace called Waernell Palace and the town is called Masaihan. There are four other palaces being currently built in the Kalmark Sultanate called Eagleview Palace (the northernmost palace), Headow Palace (the southernmost palace), Newbining Palace (the southeasternmost palace), and Avolire Palace (the palace in the middle of the desert 265 leagues south and 390 leagues east.) Each Sultan must choose a new palace to live in so that the palace is recently redecorated and refreshed. Both current palaces are large palaces that host the Sultan, his concubines, his daughters/sons, his many (castrated) male harem helpers (A?as), his many female harem helpers (Kalfas), his many guards (that are not allowed inside the harem walls), his advisors (the imperators), his mother, and his sisters. The harem is completely walled off to anyone but the A?as, the Kalfas, the concubines, his mother, his sisters, his sons and the Sultan himself; the only other allowed into the harem is his bedroom attendant who is allowed to see into the main harem quarters if the Sultan asks for a girl to be sent to him. The only two rulers written down have been the sultan''s father and grandfather.
The second large continent (that most assume is just another Island) is called D?d?. It was called that because the boat from Glacien Dynasty left with a normal crew of 20 men and came back 9 months later with just one man; he died very shortly after arriving from starvation and dehydration. The only thing he said was "D?d, ?", (aka Death, island" the healers assumed it was the name that the boat gave the island instead of him saying it was death to get TO the island. For the past 700 years, no emperor has sent out boats there. Except for the new emperor, Emperor Sigurd Ulfsohn. The boat was sent off with much food and stored water along with ways to gather water from evaporation.
There are many island chains around the planet. Some are inhabited and some aren''t. The first one is the Turboise Islands (based on the Galapagos Islands.) It has 12 little islands that are dotted with volcanos (some active and some not.) It has a lower temperature year-round but does not really get cold enough to snow. The rulers aren''t recorded and the male that proves themselves the strongest becomes the next ruler. The second is the trio of islands called Lawdu Jungle, Bredenrich Chain, and l''Atoll de Jardin. The three of them have a secret accord and are working to free l''Atoll de Jardin from under the thumb of For¨ºt d''acajou. All three islands are basically tropical, but they get cold enough in winter to snow and sometimes freeze the ground solid. None of the three islands record their rulers to make sure they do not haunt the islands. The third is The Fractured Islands. It is three small islands near the river that flows from the oasis in the desert to the ocean. This is a tropical island with no winter. There are three tribes on The Fractured Islands; the Crafcaux, the Farro, and the Cuwot tribes. All three tribes speak a language that no one has been able to decipher and the tribes are not that welcoming to outsiders. None of the three tribes record their rulers. The fourth is a quad of islands called For¨ºt d''acajou, Sharfbergen, and Arrecife Sovereignty; all three islands are tropical islands with no winter. For¨ºt d''acajou, Sharfbergen, and Arrecife Sovereignty have recently signed a treaty together to band against both the Glaicen Dynasty and the Kalmark Sultanate. Arrecife Sovereignty was just created to combine two islands and two cultures into two islands and one culture. It combined the Bah¨ªa Enterrada and the Morwelt Territory by marrying the daughter of the Bah¨ªa Enterrada rulers to the son of the Morwelt Territory rulers. All three islands have only about 3 generations of recorded rulers. The fifth (and final known inhabited island) is a single island called Wicklinet Reef. No one has managed to set foot on the island (but there are people living on the island) as there are two separate sets of reefs near the island; one is a large barrier reef to the island''s east coast (where the current naturally flows to and the reef is a known boat eater) and the other is an atoll reef to the island''s north side. About Glacien Dynasty: Glacien Dynasty is known for their boats which are light enough to land right next to castles, yet stable enough to let them sail through the vast oceans. They worship very many different gods. Each god has their own unique thing (one is for weather, one is for love, one is for babies, etc.) Most Glaciens have very, very pale skin, golden or white hair (and most carry the sun bleaching gene), and most have blue or green eyes. 1 Glacien Krona is worth 2 Kalmarkian gold pennies.

About Kalmark Sultanate: Kalmark Sultanate is known for its beautifully embroidered fabrics. Any linen, silk, or wool fabric will generally be dyed colors and embroidered with colored silks or threads; there are no forbidden colors other than the color purple. Kalmarkian embroidered fabrics are one of the biggest exports in the trade markets. Kalmark is also known for its vibrant and beautiful clothing. Even the face coverings that most people wear (from nobility all the way down to the peasantry) to keep the sand and the sun off the face are decorated. Most peasants are dark-skinned to tanned-skinned from work in the sun with sun-bleached hair and all eye colors. Most nobles are light-skinned to tanned-skinned with all hair and eye colors. All people, no matter their position in life, bathe in a Hammam. It is a bath house with streams of water to collect in a bowl to cleanse with; it also contains pools of cold water to soak in after being cleansed. Most people travel with camels as Ko?makum horses are very expensive. There are three goddesses that are worshiped here: The Water Goddess, The Rain Goddess, and the River Goddess. Any praying should be done facing toward the Portam Palace as that is the homeplace of The Water Goddess. Both fireworks and glassblowing was invented here. The fireworks are made from two relatively unknown minerals that explode quite fiercely when put together and then lit on fire. The glassblowing was done by accident when some potters found a shiny material in their kiln one time after baking pottery.
Kalmarkian Harem: There are many ranks inside the Harem; all women inside the harem are highly trained concubines. The higher in rank a concubine is, the more likely it is for her to spend more time with the Sultan; the higher a concubine is also can be the harder fall if the concubine falls out of favor. A concubine that completely loses favor could be sent to the last palace (without any children) to live out their days in exile. Any concubine above the Hautun rank is considered a favorite concubine and is allowed to live in the favorites quarters (until they get pregnant and move into the Ikabal or Kadin quarters.) The highest ranking is the Valide Sultana or the Mother of the current Sultan. The second highest is the B?li Sultana or the top Sultana. The third highest are the ?ehzades (the sons of the current and previous Sultan) and Sultanas (the daughter of the current and previous Sultan.); the sons or daughters of the current Sultan are higher in rank than those of the previous Sultan. The fourth highest are the Kadins or the mothers of the current Sultan''s sons. The fifth highest are the Ikabals or the mothers of the current Sultan''s daughters. The sixth highest are the G?zde or the Sultan''s favorite concubines. The seventh highest are the Hautuns or the concubines that have walked The Golden Path (aka the paved road that goes from the main Harem''s quarters to the Sultan''s private rooms.) The eighth highest are the Odalisque or the concubines that have completed their training but have not walked The Golden Path yet. The ninth highest are the Concubines or the concubines that have not completed the training needed to join the harem quarters; any girl under the age of 18 will not join the harem quarters, even if she fully completes the training beforehand. The tenth and the lowest rank are the Old Kadins and the Old Ikabals of the old Sultan, they are moved to the new palace, but only the mother of the Sultan is called Valide Sultana. The way the naming goes: name ; so a concubine named Aalia with the title Sultana would be Aalia Sultana. Any thefts in any of the harems by any of the concubines will have them kicked out of the palace; the crime is first investigated by the Kalfas and the A?as. Lying is also not permitted. Unlike before the current Sultan, Sultan Emir I, there would be no ?ehzades left alive after the previous Sultan dies and a new one gets crowned. However, once the previous Sultan, Sultan Eijaz II, made a betrothal agreement with Emperor Ulf Bjornson, this tradition was changed to allowing all sons to live past the crowning of the new Sultan.
There are now three levels of the harem. In Year One and Year Two, there are two things that are not told to them when they first arrive at the palace; Year One concubines are not told that they need to earn/be given a Kalmarkian name, and Year Two concubines are not told they need to willingly convert to the Three Goddesses religion. To even be eligible to be a concubine, a health examination and a sexual examination must be agreed to (no coercion is allowed, the slave MUST agree to it); if a slave says no, they will be automatically sent to become a Kalfa (and will never lay with the Sultan) or will be sold to another country/Palace. Year One Passing Requirements: - Concubines must be well behaved, any fighting will get a concubine kicked out - Concubines must have the basic knowledge of reading and writing Kalmarkian - Concubines must have the basic knowledge of the Three Goddesses religion & must begin to start reading the religious books - Concubines must know (by painting) who the top Imperators are - Concubines must have figured out their best form of entertainment (dancing, playing instruments, acting, singing, etc.) - Concubines must have started learning how to sew and embroider This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author''s work. - Concubines must have earned and been given a fitting Kalmarkian name (this is not told to them) Random Year One notes: the B?li Sultana has full control of the Year One harem; a concubine is allowed to stay in the Year One quarters until they are 16 years old (or for five full years.) If they do not graduate by age 16, they are either married to an Imperator, a Regional administrator, a City Governer, or given as a gift. There are occasional parties that are put together by the B?li Sultana for any Sultanas or the Valide Sultana. Year Two Passing Requirements: - Concubines must be well behaved, any fighting will get a concubine kicked out - Concubines must be fluent in reading and writing Kalmarkian - Concubines must fully understand the Three Goddesses religion & must have fully read the religious books - Concubines must have perfect recall of how the government works - Concubines must know exactly who is in charge of the government; the concubines must also know these people by painting - Concubines must be good at sewing and embroidery - Concubines must willingly convert to being part of the Three Goddesses religion (this is not told to them) Random Year Two notes: the second highest ranked concubine will be in charge of Year Two; a concubine is allowed to stay in the Year Two quarters until they are 20 years old (or for five full years) unless they are under the age of 18 and then will stay until they turn 18. If they do not graduate by age 20, they are either married to an Imperator, a Regional administrator, a City Governer, or given as a gift. There are occasional parties that are put together by the second highest ranked concubine for the B?li Sultana, any Sultanas, and the Valide Sultana. Main Harem random notes: The Valide Sultana is in charge of the main harem quarters and she rules it with an iron fist. Once the concubine has graduated into an Odalisque, this is where she will stay until she is dead; if she is lucky, she will walk The Golden Path and become a Hautun (or potentially a G?zde, an Ikabal or a Kadin.) The Valide Sultana will put on entertainment for the entirety of the main harem and potentially the Sultan as well.
Prices in Kalmarkian Soverign Pennies: 1 gold penny = 2 silver pennies or 5 bronze pennies or 25 copper pennies 1 silver penny = 2.5 bronze pennies or 12.5 copper pennies 1 bronze penny = 5 copper pennies - a piece of bread is 2 copper pennies - a young pig would be 3 bronze pennies - a pig for slaughter would be 8 silver pennies - a camel would be around 2 bronze pennies - a cow would be 2 silver pennies - a chicken would be 8 copper pennies - a Ko?makum stallion would be around 100 gold pennies (based on the Arabian horse) - a Ko?makum mare would be around 150 gold pennies - a Ko?makum gelding (not sold yet) - a Ko?makum yearling filly would be around 95 gold pennies - a Ko?makum yearling colt would be around 75 gold pennies - an Abyssinian queen would be 15 gold pennies (based on the Abyssinian cat) - an Abyssinian king would be 12 gold pennies Krona - an Abyssinian female kitten would be 8 gold pennies - an Abyssinian male kitten would be 8 gold pennies - a non-decorated handblown glass mirror for low nobility would be around 20,000 gold pennies - a well-decorated handblown glass mirror for the upper nobility would be over 50,000 gold pennies - a 20-gram sapphire would be around 20 gold pennies - a 20-gram pure gold necklace would be around 50 gold pennies - a perfect Snow Leopard skin (aka no tears, perfect coloring, etc) would be around 5,000 gold pennies - a bolt of silk from the Pantano Ukaxa Swamp would be around 20 gold pennies - a ceremonial rocket from Kalmark Empire would be around 100 gold pennies - a vial of custom perfume from Glacien Dynasty or its craftspeople (around 0.15 fl oz/5 ml of perfume) would be around 20 gold pennies - a vial of "mass-produced" perfume (around 4 oz/100ml) would be around 10 bronze pennies
- a years worth of rent from a peasant would be around 20 bronze pennies - a peasant earns around 160 bronze pennies - the city administrator (aka the ruling mayor of the city) earns around 500 bronze pennies a year - the regional governor (aka the people that overlook several city administrators) earns around 1,000 bronze pennies a year - the imperators (aka the governing body right under the Emperor) earn around 5,000 bronze pennies a year - the falconers earn around 1,000 bronze pennies a year - the translators earn around 3,000 bronze pennies a year - the sultan earns around 15,000 bronze pennies a year - the valide sultana (mother of the sultan) earns around 5,000 bronze pennies a year - the ?ehzades (sons of the sultan) earn around 3,500 bronze pennies a year - the sultanas (daughters of the sultan) earn around 2,500 bronze pennies a year - the sultanzade (sons of the sultana) earns around 1,500 bronze pennies a year - the hanimsultanas (daughters of the sultana) earns around 1,000 bronze pennies a year - the b?li sultana (top concubine in the harem) earns around 3,000 bronze pennies a year - the kadins (concubine with at least a son) earn 2,500 bronze pennies a year - the ikabals (concubine with at least a daughter) earn 1,000 bronze pennies a year - the g?zde (favorite concubine) earn 700 bronze pennies a year - the hautuns (concubine that has walked the Golden Path) earn 500 bronze pennies a year - the odalisques (concubine that has graduated the learning and have joined the main harem) earn 350 bronze pennies a year - the concubines (concubine that have no graduated the learning)earn 150 bronze pennies a year - the old kadins (concubine with at least a son) earn 1,000 bronze pennies a year - the old ikabals (concubine with at least a daughter) earn 500 bronze pennies a year All concubines are given food and enough bolts of clothing each year for 5 new outfits.
