《Fragile》 Escape A dense fog slithered along the ground, wrapping itself around gnarled trees as if trying to suffocate them. The air hung heavy with the scent of decay and the whispers of lost souls, all of which seemed to echo from the shadows cast by the ominous clouds hovering above. In the distance, a haunting melody of wolves'' howls pierced the stillness; a warning of danger to any who dared venture too close to the demon territory. Alinea moved cautiously through this treacherous landscape, her long, light hair falling in soft waves over her shoulders, her green eyes scanning for anything she could use. A small patch of silvery green leaves drew her attention. She chose each step with care, doing her best to avoid the patches of deadly nightshade and the grasping tendrils of the ever-thirsty bloodvine, which seemed to sense her presence and extended their crimson leaves towards her in hopes of ensnaring her. Her nimble fingers plucked a few herbs from beneath the twisted roots of a tree, taking care not to disturb the venomous spiders that spun their webs nearby. She studied the slender leaves for a moment, regarding them with disappointment upon seeing them filled with holes, eaten to practically nothing by insects. Still, she thought, it''s more than nothing. Every sound made her heart race, every shadow threatened danger, but she pressed on, resolute in her quest to find what she needed. She jumped in surprise as a rust colored tendril grazed her ankle, its deep red leaves cutting into her skin like razor blades. She brought her foot down hard on the creeping plant. Its vines retreated quickly back into the pod at its core hidden within a tangle of nasty thorns. A cold wind whispered through the gnarled branches, chilling Alinea to her very core. As she wrapped her arms around herself in an effort to ward off the biting chill, she caught sight of Seth standing a few paces away. His dark eyes scanned their surroundings with a calculated intensity that was both familiar and reassuring. "Find anything useful?" Seth asked quietly, never taking his gaze from the treacherous landscape before them. "Hardly," Alinea replied, carefully placing her finds into a small pouch at her waist. "But maybe it''s enough for a bit of medicine." "It will have to be." Seth''s tone was somber, and Alinea could sense his concern for their dwindling resources. As the wind picked up once more, he shifted his weight and narrowed his eyes, scanning the horizon for any hint of danger. Gone was the cheerful, optimistic kid who dreamed of adventure and heroism beyond the walls of their meager world. Reality had changed them. Still, sometimes she thought she could still see reflections of that kid he once was buried in his heart. "Remember when we first started coming out here?" Alinea ventured, trying to lighten the mood. "Every little noise practically sent us running home." Seth let out a small chuckle, the sound like the warmth of a dying ember. "Yeah, but look at us now. Out beyond the borderlands like it''s nothing." "I don''t know if we''re braver now or just more stupid." Alinea mused, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear and eyeing the bloodvine which had begun to sprawl out again. "A bit of both. Mostly stupid." Seth admitted with a wry smile. "But we''re in this together, yeah?" Alinea nodded, her green eyes shining with unshed tears. "I''m glad, I really don''t know what I would do without you, Seth." "Neither do I," Seth replied, his voice softening as he turned to face her. "But we''ll make it though, together." As they shared a silent moment of understanding, the world around them seemed to hold its breath, the eerie stillness punctuated only by the rustle of leaves and the distant cry of an unknown creature. Their bond had been forged in the fires of adversity and tested time and time again, but it remained unbreakable. "It''s getting dark, we''ll have to head back soon." Seth suggested, breaking the silence. "We''ll try again tomorrow." "Right," Alinea agreed, her heart swelling with gratitude for their pact to face the darkness together, whatever form it may take. With a final glance at the treacherous territory they had braved, she followed Seth into the fading light. As the sun dipped low, casting elongated shadows that slithered across the ground like serpents seeking their prey, a sudden gust of wind tore through the trees, sending a shiver down Alinea''s spine as she clutched the scavenged supplies in her arms. Seth, walking beside her, seemed to share her unease, his dark eyes darting from one shadow to another, his hand never straying far from the dagger at his side. They picked up their pace, eager to put as much distance between themselves and the demon territory as possible before nightfall. But the darkness descended quickly, and soon they were stumbling blindly through the thick fog, the only sounds were those of their labored breathing and the crunching of leaves beneath their feet. Alinea could feel the tendrils of fear creeping up her spine, threatening to overwhelm her at any moment. She had always hated this part of their excursions, the part where they had to make their way back through the treacherous terrain and hope that they didn''t run into anything too dangerous. Somehow, it always seemed easier to get in than it was to leave. Seth seemed to sense her fear, and he reached out to take her hand in his, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "We''ll make it," he whispered, his voice soft and soothing. "Just stick close to me." Alinea nodded, grateful for the comfort of his touch. They walked on in silence, the only sounds were those of their breathing and the whispering of wind haunting the trees. Suddenly, a low growl echoed through the darkness, making Alinea''s heart skip a beat. She tightened her grip on Seth''s hand, and they both froze in place, listening intently. Another growl, this one closer. They could hear the sound of heavy breathing, and the rustling of leaves as something big moved through the underbrush. Seth unsheathed his dagger, holding it at the ready as they turned to face the direction of the sound. Alinea followed his lead, her hands shaking as she clutched her pouch of supplies. The growling grew louder, and Alinea could make out the shape of a massive creature looming in the shadows. It had a hulking, muscular frame, its eyes glowing with an intense, amber light. Its fur was matted and unkempt, and a long, thick tail lashed back and forth as it approached them. Seth stepped forward, his dagger glinting in the dim light. This text was taken from Royal Road. She nodded, her heart pounding in her chest as they waited for the creature to make its move. The creature charged forward, its large paws pounding against the earth with unexpected speed and agility. Seth leapt away just in time to avoid what would have been a fatal blow, rolling nimbly onto his feet and darting around the beast as it thundered past him. He lunged forward with his dagger, but was unable to penetrate the thick hide of the creature''s neck. The monster wheeled around not giving Seth a single moment to recover, it barreled towards him with an almost supernatural speed. Seth dove out of the way at the last second, narrowly avoiding a vicious swipe from one of its talons that left a long gash across his arm. Seth stumbled back with an agonized scream, dazed from the impact as he fell against a nearby tree. Alinea''s heart raced as she watched Seth struggle to his feet, his face contorted in pain. She wanted to run to him, to help him, but the beast was still between them. It loomed over Seth, its teeth bared in a snarl as it prepared to strike again. She searched frantically through her bag for anything to turn the battle. Her fingers grazed a small explosive tucked into the bottom of the bag. It would work, it had to. finding the flint and steel she scrambled to light the fuse. Please, please, just light! She pleaded with the sparks to catch. Time seemed to slow as she failed once, twice, a third time. Finally the fuse ignited. Alinea tossed the explosive towards the creature. The monster let out a deafening roar as the explosive detonated, ripping through its thick hide and sending it flying backwards. Alinea rushed toward Seth, tears streaming down her face as she saw the extent of his injuries. He¡¯s bleeding heavily from the gash on his arm, and she can tell that he''s in a lot of pain. She quickly rummages through her bag, searching for anything that could help stop the bleeding. She finds a roll of bandages and some antiseptic poultice, and quickly begins to tend to his wounds. As she worked, Seth''s hand grasped hers tightly, his eyes locked onto hers. "Thank you," he whispered, his voice hoarse with pain. "You saved my life. Alinea shook her head, tears still streaming down her face. "We''re in this together, remember?" she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Seth nodded weakly, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he squeezed her hand. "Together," he echoes, his eyes closing briefly in exhaustion. Alinea finished tending to his wounds, making sure the bandages were secure before settling down beside him. She pulled her cloak tightly around them both, shielding them from the chill of the night air. They sat in silence for a while, listening to the sounds of the forest around them as they caught their breath. "We need to move," Seth finally said, his voice still strained with pain as he struggled to his feet. "That explosion probably let everything for miles know we''re out here." Alinea nodded, helping him to his feet and offering him her support. They begin to make their way back through the darkness, their steps slow and unsteady. The adrenaline from the fight was wearing off, leaving them both exhausted and vulnerable. They stumbled through the woods, their senses alert for any sign of danger. Alinea couldn''t shake the feeling that they were being watched, that something was following them in the shadows. She looked behind her nervously, but all she could see was the impenetrable darkness of the forest. Suddenly, they heard the sound of footsteps crunching through the leaves behind them. Alinea whirled around. Seth grasped for his dagger instinctively but found only an empty sheath. The shape of several figures formed in the shadows, eyes reflecting the dim light from the moon. The figures began to close in. Fear raced through Alinea as she saw wild hunger in their eyes. "You need to run." Seth spoke low so the creatures might not hear. "I''ll lead them away." "What? I''m not leaving you." Alinea''s mind raced looking for an answer, another way out. Seth shook his head at her refusal and pried himself from her grip. His eyes remained locked on the the monsters before us with steely determination. Seth grabbed her and shoved her away. "Run!" he shouted, his voice strained with effort. Alinea stumbled backwards, her eyes locked on Seth''s retreating figure as she tumbled into the underbrush. She didn''t want to leave him, but they had no options. With a heavy heart and tears streaming down her cheeks, she desperately tried to flee. Her feet pounded against the hard ground as she forced herself to move faster than ever before. She pushed through the thick underbrush, dodging trees and ducking under low-hanging branches. Panic filled her veins as she ran, unaware of where she was or which direction safety lay in. The trees seemed to grow darker and closer together as if they were deliberately blocking her path, while vines from the undergrowth threatened to trip her every step. The icy night air did little to soothe the burning in Alinea''s lungs, if anything it made each gasping breath all the more painful. Her heart crashed furiously against her ribs, each thump feeling as if it were shaking her whole frame. Her legs and feet ached from carrying her this far. The sound of rustling and crunching leaves not far behind her, reminded her of why she had to keep moving, there were always more demons lurking in the dark. Despite the fire in her lungs and the soreness in her muscles, she pushed herself to move forward. Stumbling over the rough path; whimpering and cursing as her toe caught on and exposed root and threw her to the ground, scraping up her palms and knees in an attempt to catch herself. Gritting her teeth she scrambled to her feet ignoring the stinging scuffs and beads of warm blood rising to the surface to greet the chilly night, willing herself to make it just a little farther. Just when she thought she could go no further, finally, the trees parted and she emerged from the dense woods, the small shack she called home now in sight just across a small meadow. She was so close she could make out the cracks in the single window. She threw herself forward, fingers grasping for the cool metal of the door knob just beyond her reach. With one last heave, she lunged at the door and yanked it open with fierce intensity. She pulled it shut behind her with a loud thud and leaned against its frail frame. Sweat dripped down her face as she raced to untie the small pouch at her side. The contents spilled out onto the ground and she scrambled to find the singular piece of chalk from amidst the pile on the hard-packed dirt floor. He breath hitched as she scrawled a sigil onto the door, etching intricate lines hastily onto the rough surface. Beyond the pathetic wooden barrier reinforced with a ward that could have been drawn better in an earthquake. She could hear them pacing. Slowly she slid to the floor, keeping her back against the door, waiting for her pursuers to leave. The handle rattled slightly by her ear; she yelped, her hands flying to her mouth in an attempt to stifle the sound. A long human-like shadow formed on the floor in the square of moonlight cast through the window. She dared to glance up at the thing in the window. Glowing yellow eyes met hers and its shrouded face twisted into a smile revealing a set of sharp, shark-like teeth that glinted in the pale light. It tapped the glass several times with long spindly fingers as if testing its strength. The monstrous smile twisted further as the fracture in the glass spread a little more. Fear gripped her heart, thinking for just a moment that the protective ward had not worked and the monsters outside would find their way in. A second figure appeared alongside the other, blazing red eyes cut through the darkness, locking her with a gaze that filled her veins with ice. It motioned for the other and both retreated into the night. Alinea sank to the ground, her body trembling with relief and exhaustion. As her heart rate slowly returned to normal, Alinea realized that she was safe for the moment. She leaned her head back against the door and took a deep breath. Her thoughts drifted to Seth, wondering if he was okay, if he was still alive. She closed her eyes praying to whatever would listen that he was somewhere safe too. Caught Alinea groaned as she slowly stirred, her body screaming in protest at the slightest movement. Her palms were scraped and bruised from the night before, red and raw. Her knees were scratched, her muscles still aching as the memories of the previous night came flooding back to her. She glanced around the dimly-lit shack, her home for the past year, barely more than four rickety walls cramped together with dirt underfoot. Alinea sighed deeply as she rubbed her eyes trying to clear her head, a sense of unease settling in again as her thoughts drifted to last night. Seth was still out there, somewhere, he had to be, he was tougher than her. She knew she had to find him, but her body was still weak and sore from the night before. She slowly pushed herself to her feet, wincing as the pain radiated through her body. Alinea staggered to the small table in the corner of the shack, fumbling for the first aid kit she kept there. She pulled out a small bottle of healing salve, wincing as she applied the sticky substance to her wounds. It stung at first, but then a cool sensation spread over her skin as the salve worked its magic, numbing the pain. Feeling a little bit better, Alinea rummaged through her belongings, gathering what little she had to take. A dented old canteen, the last of her dried jerky, a small length of rope, and the rest of her first aid kit which consisted of a few torn rags for bandages and a few small jars of medicinal herbs. This is it , she thought, recognizing the strong possibility that her rescue was more of a suicide mission. He had risked everything to save her and now it was her turn to do the same. With a determined nod, Alinea slung her small bag over her shoulder and stepped out of the shack. The sun was barely rising, casting a pink-orange hue over the horizon. She searched the tree line for just a moment, keen eyes searching for the path that would lead her back to Seth. It took her barely a minute to find. A tall oak, gnarled with age, a large piece of bark torn away revealing a lighter smoother wood underneath. The first of hundreds in a trail she had blazed together with Seth through countless excursions through the borderlands and beyond. She trekked forward the trees and underbrush growing dense and darker with each step forward, the trees towering above her, casting their shadows with silent menace. She could hear the rustling of leaves, the snapping of twigs, and the scuttling of creatures in the bushes. The trail was familiar to her, but the forest was not. Trees she had never seen before sprung up around her, their roots snaking across the ground and tangling with the underbrush. The air was thick with the smell of damp earth and decaying leaves, and the sounds of insects chirping filled her ears. She trudged on, picking her way through the thick foliage, her senses on high alert for any signs of danger. As she moved further into the forest, she began to notice a change in the landscape. The ground became soft and miry underfoot. The air grew colder and the light grew dimmer, casting strange shadows across the forest floor. Alinea shivered, pulling her cloak more tightly around her. The blazes marking her trail now each bore deep X carved into them, a warning that she was crossing into the borderlands. The fog grew thicker, tendrils of mist winding around her feet and ankles with each step. The trees here grew tall and twisted, some so ancient that their branches spread out like gnarled hands reaching out for her. Below them lay thick patches of mossy grasses sprawled out like spongy blankets over the already soft earth. The air here was still; an oppressive silence hung in the air, the birds had gone quiet long ago and even the insects dared not make a sound. The sky above was gray and overcast with clouds so thick it almost looked like night had already fallen. The ground beneath her feet grew more treacherous, the soft soil giving way to slick mud and hidden crevices. She had to move slower, more cautiously, each step a potential trap. As she moved deeper into the mire, the mist grew thicker, and the trees more menacing. She ducked behind large jagged-edged bolder as the the sound of something large moving just beyond her line of sight caught her attention. A creature like the one she and Seth had encountered last night lumbered out of the fog. Its massive form took up the entire width of the trail, its body covered in matted fur. Its orangish eyes glowed in the darkness, and its sharp teeth glistened in the dim light. It let out a low growl, and Alinea could feel the vibration of its voice deep in her chest. Its massive head swiveled back and forth, its slitted nostrils flaring as it searched for its prey. Alinea held her breath, willing herself to stay still and silent as the creature passed just a few feet from her hiding spot. As the creature moved further down the trail, Alinea let out a shaky breath of relief. She knew she had to move quickly before more of the creatures appeared. She cautiously peeked out from behind the boulder, scanning the area for any signs of danger. The thick fog made it difficult to see very far, but she could make out the outline of a tree in the distance that looked like it may offer a better vantage point. Her heart pounding in her chest, Alinea set off, moving as quickly and quietly as she could across the treacherous terrain. You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version. The mud and muck made each step a challenge, and once Alinea almost lost her footing as her foot became stuck in a hidden crevice. She managed to catch herself before she fell, but the close call only served to heighten her nerves. She forced herself to keep moving forward, knowing that every moment she spent in the borderlands was a moment too long. She finally made it to the tree, a massive oak with thick, gnarled branches that hung low to the ground. She began to climb, using the branches to pull herself up higher and higher until she was perched on a thick bough, hidden within the canopy. She peered out, scanning the surrounding area and looking for any signs of Seth. As she scanned the landscape below, her eyes fixed on a faint flicker of light in the distance. Her heart leapt with excitement. Seth! It has to be! She quickly made her way down the tree, her hand grazing against the rough bark as she descended. She started running single mindedly focused on the direction of the light . As she ran towards the light, Alinea felt her pulse quicken and her breath hitch in her throat. The anticipation of finally finding Seth was almost unbearable. She pushed herself harder, her feet pounding against the soft earth as she closed in on the flickering campfire. But as she burst through the trees, she found herself facing an unexpected sight. It wasn''t Seth she saw, but a large, looming structure lit with a few oil lamps. The wooden walls rose high, and a single door was closed tightly against the damp mist that hung heavily in the air. Alinea hesitated for a moment, wondering what to do. The structure was undoubtedly man-made, and it seemed like it was the only sign of civilization in the area. If anyone knew anything about Seth, they might be inside. But there was also a sense of danger that emanated from the place. She could feel it in the pit of her stomach, the hairs on the back of her neck rising in warning. Alinea pushed open the door hesitantly. The wood was aged and rotting away, and as she stepped inside a wave of rancid air washed over her. It was dark and oppressive in the building, with only an eerie glow to break up the shadows. Silence hung thickly in the air like smoke, pressing against her eardrums until she thought her head would burst. As her vision adjusted to the dim light, she saw what looked to be an endless sea of human-sized cages filling the room. Many of them contained people, their bodies sunken and worn with exhaustion, their faces drawn and pale from years without sunlight. Some were moaning softly in despair while others had curled up into tiny balls, too broken to move. Alinea felt a wave of revulsion rush over her. What kind of place was this? The cages were all bolted shut with heavy metal locks and every cage contained injured or malnourished humans. They looked up at her with pleading eyes, reaching out through the bars towards her. Some cried out to her, voicing their pain and sorrow. Alinea''s heart broke at the sight of their suffering and she knew she had to help them. She rummaged through her bag finding a makeshift lock-pick and began working on the lock, her fingers deftly picking at the mechanisms until the lock finally clicked open. The humans inside let out cries of joy and gratitude, their skinny arms wrapping around her in a tight embrace. She could feel their desperation, their hopelessness, and their fear. Alinea knew that she couldn''t leave them here to suffer any longer. She started on the next lock, working with meticulous care, one by one the tumblers fell into place and one by one, the locks came undone. As she worked, she wondered about how she was going to guide all these people back safely through the borderlands. She wasn''t a fighter and most of the people here were in no condition to exert themselves. They had no weapons, hardly any food, and barely enough medicine for one or two people. This is insane. She thought, how the hell am I going to make this work? She shook her head focusing on the task at hand. Just as the last lock clicked open, the atmosphere in the room changed from hope and relief to fear and panic . Alinea looked around, people scrambled for the doors, suddenly trying to escape and brave their chances with the unforgiving wilds than to wait a moment longer. Alinea''s heart raced as she tried to make sense of what was happening. She looked around, trying to find the source of the chaos. Screams and wails of the escaping humans rang in her ears, followed by swift oppressing silence and then the steady click-clack of footsteps on the stone floor. She swallowed hard, hands frozen mid-motion, lockpick still clutched in hand, there was no where to go, no where to hide. Alinea''s heart dropped. The shadows stirred and seemed to part like a dark curtain. "My, My, aren''t you a brave little mouse." The demoness purred as she stepped into the light. Fiery red hair flickered in the dim light as she stepped forward, her cruel eyes alight with amusement. Her face was a mask of perfection, her beauty overshadowed by the malicious glint in her amber eyes. Sanctuary Alinea felt a chill run through her at the sight of the demoness. She could feel the power radiating from her and knew that she was in way over her head. She found herself unable to speak or move, completely paralyzed by fear. The demoness moved deliberately, her slow, calculated steps heightening Alinea''s dread. Alinea watched in horror as the demoness approached one of the empty cages, her clawed hand wrapping around the bars of the opened door. Her small black feathered wings flaring, feathers flashing a green jewel tone in the light before tucking neatly against her back. " A very brave, very stupid little mouse." The demoness hissed, her honeyed voice dripping in thinly veiled venom. she slammed the cage door violently, the echoing clang reverberating through the room. The demoness spun around, her gaze latching onto Alinea''s. She advanced on her with purpose, her words slicing through the air with an icy menace. " So... you slipped out of your cage and thought you''d help your little friends too?" Alinea felt a suffocating dread fall over her, her breath caught in her throat as the demoness closed the distance between them and grabbed Alinea by the chin, pulling her face close. "You should have just scurried away little mouse." The demoness sneered, her grip on Alinea''s chin tight and unyielding. She pulled Alinea''s face close. "It would be a waste to kill you." The demon''s sickly sweet voice heightening Alinea''s terror. Desperation coursed through her as she struggled to break free of the demoness'' iron grip. But the creature was far stronger, her fingers like vices holding Alinea in place. Panic surged within Alinea as the futility of her resistance settled on her. " I like your fire," The demoness said, tone filled with malicious amusement. "It will be so much more fun to snuff it out." Alinea''s heart pounded furiously against her chest as the demoness raised an elegantly clawed hand as if to strike her. Alinea squeezed her eyes tight, she didn''t want the last moment of her life filled with the demoness'' wicked smile. "Release her." A commanding voice rang from the shadows, the demoness recoiled letting Alinea slip from her grasp as an imposing figure stepped forward. He regarded Alinea for a brief moment with sharp, crimson eyes before stepping between the two. He was tall, muscular, with tousled jet black hair that framed his chiseled face. Massive black-feathered wings unfurled from his back giving him the appearance of a dark angel; smooth black ram-like horns swept back from his temples in a gentle curve, one was broken off around its midpoint , the other held deep chips and cracks. "Ah, Rennik," the demoness purred, her sickly-sweet voice dripping with false respect. "It''s usually such a pleasure to see you, but I''m a bit busy. Perhaps you''ll return later and I can make it a pleasure for you as well." The demoness'' word''s held a seductive edge and she gazed upon Rennik with an almost predatory intent. "Another time, perhaps, Blandette." He replied, his words laden with a sense of detachment. Blandette''s eyes lingered on Rennik. "I''ll hold you to that, Rennik." She purred, gaze shifting back to Alinea. "I should thank you for finding my lost pet here," He said , a wry smile playing at the corners of his lips as he indicated Alinea. He moved closer to Alinea, nearly tucking her away out of sight with one of his massive wings, as though he were shielding her from Blandette''s gaze. "I expect one little human hasn''t caused you too much trouble." Blandette''s amber eyes shifted between Rennik and Alinea, a preparatory smile playing on her lips. "Rennik, I had no idea you''d picked up another stray." she mused. Alinea couldn''t help but notice Rennik''s grip on her tighten subtly and the flash of anger in his crimson eyes. Blandette, with a gleam of amusement in her amber eyes, offered a sweet smile. "You know, Rennik, she seems to be more trouble than she is worth. If you''d like, I can take her off your hands. After all, I''m sure there are more ... Suitable uses for her." A chill ran down Alinea''s spine at Blandette''s words. Rennik''s crimson eyes narrowed at Blandette''s offer, his wings twitching slightly as he held Alinea close, almost protectively. "I appreciate the offer, Blandette, but you know I do not part with my possessions so carelessly." His voice was tinged with a mixture of indifference and veiled warning. With a hint of a sly grin he added, "and, I suspect after a little training, she''ll be more than enough to satisfy my needs." Blandette''s eyes glinted with a mixture of annoyance and frustration. "While I would love to continue this little chat, I have far more important matters to attend to now." She remarked, her tone dripping with feigned politeness. "I expect you''ll take your new plaything away before I return.¡± She turned her attention to Alinea, her gaze lingering on the human with disdain. "Perhaps, Rennik, you should first teach your ¡®pet¡¯ to keep her hands to herself unless directed otherwise." With a final displeased look from Rennik to Alinea, Blandette flared her iridescent wings and disappeared in a burst of greenish smoke. Rennik looks down at Alinea, releasing her from his grasp. "You''re lucky to be alive," he said, his voice cold , sending a chill through her, leaving her unsure if he was angry at her or simply indifferent. She looked up at him, taking in the sharp angles of his face and the way his black hair fell messily across his forehead. "I don''t'' know if you are insane, or just recklessly stupid." He regarded her with a steely gaze, his crimson eyes seemed to bore into her very soul. Alinea swallowed hard, feeling the weight of his stare. "I had to help them." She said softly, her voice barely above a whisper. "They were suffering...I couldn''t just walk away." The demon''s expression softened ever so slightly at her words . He leaned closer, his face only inches from hers. "You should be more careful," he said, his breath hot against her cheek. "Wouldn''t want to attract more of the wrong attention." He murmured, his voice low and dangerously seductive. Alinea shuddered at the proximity of Rennik''s face to hers. Alinea nodded, unable to tear her gaze away from his piercing crimson eyes. She didn''t know what to make of this demon in front of her. She had faced many demons before, yet he was unlike any creature she had ever encountered. And yet, despite the darkness that seemed to cling to his very being, there was a strange allure to him that drew her in. Rennik stood up straight, his massive wings folding loosely against his back . "Come with me." He said , gesturing for her to follow. "Blandette won''t stay sulking for long, I''d prefer not to deal with her further tonight." Alinea hesitated as Rennik turned from her and began to walk away. Every story she had ever heard of demons, spoke of cruelty and sadistic joy in causing pain to humans. Her own experience with demons should have should have sent her running the moment she had the chance. She chewed her lip weighing the various paths laden with danger before her. With a determined nod she made her choice and walked quickly to catch up with the demon. "Cover your eyes." He commanded simply as they neared the only door to the structure. Alinea''s stomach churned as she recalled chaos of the humans she had tried to free and their screams of agony moments before encountering Blandette. With a trembling hand, she did as Rennik commanded, her heart heavy with guilt, shielding her from the horrors that awaited outside the door. As they exited the structure, Alinea could feel the heat of freshly spilled blood still warm and sticky in the air. It seemed to cling to her skin like a thick blanket and she found herself shuddering in revulsion. With his hand around her upper arm, he guided her out the door, through the small clearing, and into the forests beyond that. Alinea stumbled over twisted ancient roots, but Rennik''s grasp on her was steady. This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it. After what felt like an eternity, Rennik finally stopped in a small clearing. He released her arm and stepped away from her, allowing her to uncover her eyes. Alinea blinked slowly, ridding the darkness from her vision as the light of the full moon cast its pale glow across the forest floor. Rennik shifted his weight as if about to turn away from her when she summoned up the courage to look him in the eye once more. "Thank you," she said quietly, feeling ashamed for not having thought it earlier. He merely shrugged as if it were a trivial matter. Curiosity gnawed at Alinea. She had to know, to understand. "Why," She began, swallowing hard and taking a steadying breath. "Why did you save me?" Rennik regarded her for a moment, his crimson eyes seemed to be searching hers for something. He leaned in close, his voice casual but still filled with intrigue. "I have a habit of collecting things that interest me." He said, a faint smile dancing on his lips. Her heart faltered for a moment before picking up pace , his lips quirked as if he could hear it. "And you are certainly interesting." Alinea shifted on her feet, taking a step back from the demon. Curiosity and wariness waged a silent battle within her. On one hand, before her stood a demon, possibly capable of unspeakable evil, maybe he''d killed hundreds of humans, maybe he planned to lure her back to his lair to eat her heart in peace. On the other hand, he''d saved her. She couldn''t imagine for what reason. "Can I trust you?" she asked finally, quietly, afraid to meet his gaze as she spoke her thoughts. "We have lots of stories about demons where I''m from. We don''t have stories about demons saving humans, only stores about bloodthirsty monsters." Rennik seemed unfazed by her limited view of demon kind. "Stories are often limited to the perspective from which they are told. My thirst... is of a different kind." His words hung in the air leaving Alinea all the more confused by his intentions. He looked to the crimson painted sky over the demon realm, the sun beginning to set. "Come, human..." "Alinea." She corrected. "My name, its Alinea." Rennik turned to her, his eyes meeting hers once again. "Alinea," he repeated, as if tasting the sound of her name on his tongue. "Come, Alinea," he continued, gesturing for her to follow him. "I''ll take you somewhere safe for the night." Alinea hesitated, but the thought of being alone in this unfamiliar and dangerous realm was enough to convince her to follow the demon. As they walked through the forest, Alinea couldn''t help but feel a strange sense of security with Rennik. Despite his demonic features, there was something about him that made her feel safe in his presence. Finally, after what seemed like hours of walking, they arrived at their destination. Alinea stepped into the clearing, her eyes widening as they settled on a large manor nestled amongst the trees. It seemed to emerge from the dense woodland like a secret whispered by the trees themselves. Ivy-like plants clung to the stone walls as it nature sought to claim the home as its own. She approached the manor with a mix of trepidation and wonder. The stone exterior exuded an an ancient charm, its weathered surface revealing the passage of countless seasons. Moonlight filtered through the towering trees overhead, casing ghostly dappled shadows on the stone steps leading to the entrance. As she strode across the threshold she was struck by the blending of the natural and supernatural. Dark, polished wood and rich fabrics created an inviting interior that beckoned her deeper. The large windows windows like portals to the forest, their glass panes etched with runes that held and ethereal quality. A grand staircase led up to a wide hallway filled with mysterious objects of both earthly and arcane origin lined the shelves. Candlelight danced off striking crystals and jewels, glimmering against the plush furniture littered across each room. Talismans and totems from distant lands whispered secrets of dark magics. "You seem impressed." He said, breaking Alinea from her enchantment, a mischievous smile playing at the corners of his lips. Rennik lead her up the grand staircase down a hall of grand doors, he stopped before a set of beautifully carved double doors. He opened the heavy wooden doors allowing Alinea to step into the bedroom, her eyes wide with wonder. He presented her with a space like nothing she had ever seen before, a symphony of dark allure and sensual comfort. As she gazed around, she couldn''t help but feel the room''s mystique wrap around her like a velvet shroud. The walls were adorned with rich, midnight-blue wallpaper, adorned with intricate, swirling patterns that seemed to come alive in the dim light. Soft, flickering candle sconces adorned the walls, casting a warm, amber glow that danced with shadows, creating a feeling of intimacy. The bed, an opulent creation of dark mahogany, stood as the room''s centerpiece. Its massive, intricately carved headboard featured a elegant thorned vines and delicate roses. The bedding, made from the fine, glossy silks, was as black as night, and it seemed to beckon her to sink into its plush depths. On either side of the bed were small, ornate tables holding crystal vases filled with dark blood-red roses, their petals almost luminescent in the soft candlelight. The air was heavy with their heady scent, a sweet and intoxicating aroma. Across from the bed, a tall, full-length mirror stood, its frame adorned with strange occult symbols and runes. A chaise lounge upholstered in deep crimson velvet nestled in a corner, inviting her to recline and lose herself in its luxurious embrace. Nearby, a bookshelf held a collection of ancient looking tomes, their worn leather spines hinted a long history of heavy use. The room felt like a sanctuary of desires and secrets. Alinea looked to Rennik, the room beckoned to her with promises on luxurious comfort unlike anything she had ever known, but she hesitated at the threshold, recognizing that this was not just any demon''s lair but an incubus. Her stomach turned as she wondered what would be asked of her in exchange for the creature¡¯s assistance. As if reading her thoughts, Rennik''s demeanor shifted. Alinea gasps in shock as she finds herself pinned between the door frame and the demon, he wore a devilish smile as he regarded her. Alinea''s heart raced as Rennik leaned in close, his breath hot against her ear. "You''re afraid of me," he murmured, his voice low and seductive. "You think I''ll ask something of you in exchange for my help." His lips brushed against her neck, sending shivers down her spine. "I''m a demon," he said, his words laced with a mixture of seriousness and something akin to reassurance. "But I''m not a monster, Alinea." His lifted his gaze to meet hers and there was an earnestness in his eyes as he continued, "In any case... I have no taste for fear." With a final lingering gaze, he released her, an almost unnoticeable weight finding its way into her hand as the demon retreated deeper into his manor without another word. Alinea glanced at the small unassuming object in her palm. A simple piece of chalk. Her fingers curled around the small gift. She hesitated before using the chalk to scrawl the only bit of magic she knew on the back of the door. The sigil was probably the the most beautiful she had ever drawn, the chalk flowed easily over the smooth lacquered wood of the door. She stepped back, admiring her work and feeling a small sense of security. Alinea took a deep breath and stepped into the room. The soft, lush carpet felt wonderful against her feet as she slowly made her way around the bed, taking in the details of her surroundings. Her fingers brushed against the carved headboard as she passed by, admiring the intricate vines and roses on its face. She smiled when she noticed that some of the petals had been delicately shaded a pale pink, giving them a lifelike quality. At last Alinea settled onto the chaise lounge in front of the mirror. She gazed into it''s depths, watching as shadows danced across her reflection and feeling like she was looking into unknown secrets of another realm. Her attention shifted to one of bookshelves where she picked up one of ancient leather-bound volumes resting there. It''s pages were filled with strange symbols and diagrams that spoke of ancient magic; though she hardly understood any of it, each page turn revealed something new and wondrous for Alinea to explore. With an eagerness that only came from discovering something completely unexpected, Alinea curled up on the chaise lounge with the book in hand and began to flip through its contents, page after page, until finally her eyes became heavy and exhaustion overcame her. For the first time in a long time, she drifted off into a gentle sleep, dreaming of secret places beyond this world. Choice When morning dawned again, Alinea awoke feeling refreshed despite the wild dreams she had fallen through that night. She stretched as far as her limbs would allow, enjoying the way the tension in her muscles slipped away. Alinea sat up, her thoughts still a blur as she rubbed at her bleary eyes. She glanced around the room, suddenly realizing how different it felt in the light of day. The shadows that had danced across the walls and furniture in the night had been replaced by warm sunlight filtering through the curtains. The roses in their crystal vases sparkled as if they had been sprinkled with diamond dust, and the intricate patterns on the wallpaper glimmered in the light. Alinea slid off the chaise lounge and onto her feet, feeling completely refreshed and invigorated It had been a long time since she had such a restful night, the last time still vivid in her mind and it brought her back to thoughts of Seth. She had failed to find him yesterday, but he was still out there somewhere. As she headed down the grand stairs ready to begin her search for Seth anew, the tantalizing scent of cooked food drew her attention. Her neglected stomach roared like a wild animal under the barrage of mouthwatering scents. Alinea followed her nose, guided to the source of the delectable smells. She soon found herself in a cozy little kitchen where Rennik was busy preparing breakfast. "Have a seat," He gestured to a small table. The sight of all the fresh food laid out on the table before her made Alinea¡¯s mouth water even more than before. There were soft boiled eggs, freshly baked bread still hot from the oven, slices of melon and strawberries, and a variety of cheeses and jams. An array of pastries and cakes filled one side of the table and a pot of herbal tea perfumed with jasmine and rose petals stood steaming before them both. Alinea sat down eagerly, feeling like she had been transported to an entirely different world; one full of luxury that she had never experienced before. She took in the scene around her with awe; it was truly something special to behold such abundance after living so long on meager rations for months. Rennik served her a plate overflowing with delicious food and took a seat across from her. "This is all for me?" She asked hesitantly taking note of the empty space before himself. He nodded, humming in affirmation. "There is so much... I couldn''t possibly-" "Have your fill." He told her simply. Alinea spared no second thought as she greedly dug into the spread before her. "We have a long journey ahead today."Alinea paused mid shovel, looking at the demon curiously. "It''s a long walk between here and the human lands." Alinea furrowed her brow. "I''m not going back to the human lands." She said, choking down a bite of eggs." My friend is still out in the borderlands somewhere, maybe even as far as the wastes, I have to find him." Rennik shook his head giving her a stern look. " Too dangerous for a human to go wandering around out there. I''m talking you back where you belong." Alinea slammed her fork down onto her plate, anger flashing in her eyes. "I belong with Seth, he''s my friend, we''re partners," she said through gritted teeth. "And I am not leaving without him." She emphasized each word staring down the demon with narrowed eyes. She had nothing else and no one else. "I don''t need your help," She said. "I appreciate what you''ve done for me but I didn''t need it... and I''ll be fine on my own." Rennik regarded her for a moment, his face unreadable, then he chuckled, a low, rumbling sound that sent shivers down Alinea''s spine. "You humans and your stubbornness," he said mostly to himself. "I suppose I can''t blame you for wanting to find your friend. I really can''t allow you to go wandering around out there though, you''ve already gotten yourself mixed up with Blandette, I can only imagine you making things worse for yourself from there." He leaned forward with a thoughtful expression. "I have already expended energy keeping you out of trouble once, I would prefer that effort not go to waste. If you insist on staying and looking for your friend, then I will help you." "Really?" Alinea felt a sparkle of hope at his words. Rennik seemed to be a powerful demon with access to resources she could only dream of, his help would ease the struggle significantly. "There are conditions." Alinea''s heart fell as quickly as it had risen, silently she cursed herself, knowing better than to trust a demon. "It may not have occured to you as you were making your daring rescue last night, but there is no freedom for humans outside of your lands. Those humans, even if they had escaped Blandette, would have found themselves in another cage sooner or later," He held her gaze with a serious look. " Or, worse. If I allow you to roam around freely, even within my territory, another demon would be all too happy to capture you and sell you off to the highest bidder. If you won''t go back to human lands, if you insist on staying here, then the only way to ensure your safety is for you to blend in with the humans already here." This book''s true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience. Alinea held her breath with apprehension. "What exactly are you suggesting?" A knot was beginning to form in her stomach. "You''ll be my pet." He said it so simply, so casually Alinea almost thought he might be joking. Alinea''s eyes widened with shock as she stared at Rennik, unable to believe what he had just suggested. "Your pet?" she repeated incredulously, her voice raising in disbelief. "I''m not some kind of animal that can be owned!" Rennik remained calm, watching her with an almost amused expression. "You''re not an animal, Alinea," he said, his voice steady. "But you are a human, and unfortunately, that means you''re vulnerable in this world. So long as you play your part, you''ll be protected. No other demon will dare touch you if they believe you belong to me." She swallowed hard and chewed her lip nervously, the thought of being owned by someone, anyone, least of all a demon, made her feel uneasy. "What exactly would I have to do?" She asked. "I won''t have you do anything too unreasonable, you''ll be acting as my pet, not a slave." "There''s a difference?" Alinea mumbled. Rennik ignored her commentary. "Inside the privacy of my manor, you are free to do as you please, only the three locked rooms will be off limits to you. You have your own room, your own space, I''ll provide you with whatever comforts you require. You are my guest. Beyond these walls, however, you are my pet. You will follow my orders without question. If I give you a command, you will say ''Yes, Master'' and complete the task immediately." "So I do this...How does this help me find Seth?" The thought of being at the mercy of the whims of a demon wasn''t one she enjoyed, but if I got her closer to Seth, she would do anything. "I''m a fairly powerful demon, Alinea. As a demon lord, I do have various ''diplomatic'' duties that I am expected to attend to." He said the word diplomatic with a slight air of sarcasm and an edge of contention. "You''ll accompany me to territories far beyond my own, and in doing so, I''m giving you access to eyes across every corner of these lands. The humans these demons keep see everything that goes on in their master''s world." "And when I find Seth?" In her mind, Alinea had already agreed. She had vowed to do anything to find her friend even if it meant she would belong to this demon for the rest of her life. A sly smile touched his lips. "The choice is yours." He said simply. Alinea took a deep breath. "Okay," She said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I''ll do it." For Seth. ¡°You know,¡± He purred. ¡°For this facade to work, you¡¯ll need something more appropriate for your new position.¡± He stood and gestured to the ragged clothing she wore. ¡°Enjoy your breakfast, I¡¯ll be in my study when you are ready to leave.¡± Alinea watched as Rennik left the room, her stomach a swirl of fear and anticipation; suddenly the delicious spread before her didn¡¯t seem as appetizing. She shook her head reminding herself that she was doing this for Seth and that nothing else mattered. After breakfast, Alinea made her way to Rennik''s study. As she walked through the manor, she couldn''t help but marvel at the opulence and extravagance that surrounded her. She had never seen anything like it before. When she finally reached the study, she hesitated for a moment before knocking on the door. "Come in," Rennik''s voice called out from inside. Alinea slowly opened the door and stepped inside. The study was just as lavish as the rest of the manor, with bookshelves lining the walls, various displays of strange unassuming objects held in glass cases with arcane symbols etched into the glass and a large desk at the center of the room. Rennik was seated behind the desk, poring over a stack of papers that seemed to spill over one side of the desk and onto the floor into a stack of ancient scrolls and books. "Ah, Alinea," he said, looking up at her from an ornate and official looking scroll. "Are you ready to go?" He carelessly tossed aside the scroll as if it were a trivial thing in comparison to her presence. Alinea nodded silently, not quite sure what to expect. Rennik stood up and walked over to her, eyeing her up and down. "Yes, but where exactly are we going?" She asked unable to hide the hint of suspicion in her tone. "If you are going to pass as my pet, you''ll need the appropriate clothing. We will take a short trip into town for a few outfits that will help you fit in with your new position better. Come." He gestured for her to follow. Alinea followed Rennik out of the study and into the hallway. They walked in silence, Alinea still feeling uneasy about the entire situation. As they descended the grand staircase, she couldn''t help but wonder what kind of life awaited her as Rennik''s pet. Would she be treated well? Would she be safe? The questions swirled around in her head as they stepped outside into the bright sunlight. Exposed Rennik led her to a waiting carriage, which was pulled by two black horses. Alinea climbed in, feeling apprehensive as Rennik settled in beside her. The carriage jolted forward, and they were soon on their way. As they rode through the town, Alinea couldn''t help but notice the stares they were getting from the other demons and humans. It was clear that Rennik was a powerful figure in this world, and that she was now a part of his entourage. Alinea''s heart raced with uncertainty as she followed Rennik into the busy town within his territory. Her clothes were a testament to the trials she had faced before Rennik''s arrival, ragged and dirt-stained. In this new role, she felt exposed and vulnerable in her current attire. Rennik had promised her clothing befitting her role, and she couldn''t help but wonder what that would entail. As they walked through the bustling streets, Alinea couldn''t help but notice the array of demons, each with their own unique appearances and abilities. Creatures of all shapes and sizes milled about completing their various tasks. Finally, they arrived at a shop unlike any Alinea had seen before. The entrance was flanked by exquisitely woven silk threads that shimmered in the dappled light. Delicate arches and soft drapes gave the impression that the store was suspended between two realms. Two child sized demons with features resembling moths, quietly swept away leaves from the stone path. They looked stunned and curious as Rennik approached, one quickly fluttered inside, leaving behind a trail of glimmering dust. Moments later, an ethereally beautiful spider demon emerged from the entrance to greet them. The demon was tall, and willowy. Her limbs were long and graceful, and she held herself with poise and confidence. Her skin was pale white and her hair was long and silky with a slight curl. Her eyes were the color of onyx, multifaceted, and reflected the dappled light of the shop, they gleaming with curiosity as she took in Rennik with Alinea trailing just behind. Rennik''s voice was smooth as satin as he greeted the spider demon. "Ah, Aria, I trust your wares have only grown more enchanting since my last visit?" The spider demon, Aria, inclined her head gracefully. "Indeed, Lord Rennik."Her voice was like a spring breeze woven through silken strands. Aria''s gaze shifted to Alinea. The demon said nothing but Alinea couldn''t deny the wave of self-consciousness that washed over her under the quiet analyzing stare. Rennik introduced Alinea with something like a touch of pride laced in his voice. "Allow me to introduce you to my new pet, Alinea." Unsure of how demon customs worked, Alinea bowed her head slightly to Aria. "It''s nice to meet you. Your shop is lovely." The demon continued to regard Alinea like an insect. "My pet, requires a suitable wardrobe. Of all the Arachni, Aria, your silk is by far the most stunning. I could think of no-one better to suit my needs." Aria''s attention was brought back to Rennik. "Of course, Lord Rennik." A faint smile graced her lips as if enchanted by his voice. "Please follow me." The interior of Aria''s shop was a vision of opulence and exotic charm. Rich, flowing silks adorned the walls and cascaded from the ceiling, creating a labyrinth of colors and textures that seemed to sway gently in the ambient light. The boutique was an enchanting blend of elegance and mystique, an otherworldly oasis in the bustling demon town. The silks that hung from the walls were like a tapestry of dreams, ranging from deep, velvety blacks to shimmering moonlit whites, and every shade in between. They draped and billowed in such a way that they seemed to dance with an unseen breeze, creating an illusion of movement within the shop. It was a sensory wonderland, with the silks whispering secrets of far-off lands to those who dared to listen. Aria''s presence added an otherworldly charm to her boutique, making it a place of intrigue and allure for those who sought unique and enchanting attire within the demon town. She moved with an uncanny grace, her limbs flowing like the silken threads she so often worked with. Her hands were dexterous and nimble, capable of weaving the most delicate of fabrics. Despite her frail appearance, there was an air of power and knowledge that emanated from her, as though she held the secrets of the world within her silken threads. The elegant spider demon moved with an air of grace as she circled around Alinea, her delicate fingers lightly tracing the edges of the ragged clothing that clung to Alinea''s form. Her disappointment was palpable, and it weighed heavily on Alinea''s trembling shoulders. With a tone that held no room for argument, Aria finally spoke, her voice a melodic whisper that carried an air of authority. "I cannot work with you in such a state," she declared, her eyes never leaving Alinea''s. Rennik, understanding the spider demon''s meaning, stepped forward. His command was clear and unwavering. "Undress." Alinea''s eyes went wide, her gaze darting between Rennik and Aria wildly. It was the first direct order she had received since agreeing to become Rennik''s pet, and the weight of it pressed upon her. She bit her lower lip, a mixture of embarrassment and trepidation filling her. The atmosphere in the boutique became even heavier, thick with tension. The space felt smaller, more confined, as Alinea''s fingers hesitated on the edge of her worn clothing. She could hear her own heartbeat, a rapid staccato that seemed to drown out all other sounds. Alinea''s eyes pleaded with Rennik, silently begging him to reconsider, to spare her this humiliating ordeal. The fear that coursed through her veins was almost suffocating.. Rennik''s expression remained unreadable, and it was impossible to discern his thoughts. He watched her patiently, waiting for her to comply with his directive. When she hesitated for what felt like an eternity, his voice came as a sultry whisper, laced with an underlying threat that sent an involuntary shiver down her spine. "Pet," he murmured softly, his breath caressing her ear as he leaned in closer, "do as I said, or I''ll have to do it for you." His words hung in the air, heavy with implication, and the intimate tone of his voice sent a flush of heat to her cheeks. She realized that there was no escaping this moment of submission, no matter how reluctant she felt. This is for Seth, she reminded herself. Swallowing her pride, Alinea slowly, hesitantly, began to undress, her gaze downcast as she exposed herself in the presence of both Rennik and the elegant spider demon, Aria. With a deep breath and trembling hands, Alinea reluctantly continued to undress, peeling away her clothes until she stood before them in nothing but her underwear. The spider demon, Aria, made a disapproving sound, clearly indicating her dissatisfaction with Alinea''s incomplete compliance. This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it Rennik''s warning look didn''t go unnoticed, and Alinea knew she had no choice but to obey. She cast her gaze downward in a mixture of embarrassment and resignation and, with quivering hands, removed the last of her garments, leaving her entirely exposed to both demons in the elegant boutique. Aria wasted no time. With the meticulousness of a skilled artisan, she began taking detailed measurements of Alinea''s body, her deft hands gliding over every curve and angle, every subtle contour. Every measurement was noted with precision, ensuring that the garments she would create would fit Alinea flawlessly. The spider demon''s attention to detail was almost unsettling, and it made Alinea acutely aware of her vulnerability in this situation. Aria gazes over Alinea''s naked form once more before deciding she has all she needs to create the garments Rennik desires. With a snap of her fingers, Aria calls over her moth-like attendants. "Yes, Miss Aria." The little demons chirped in unison, appearing side-by-side within less than a breath. "Sylph, these," Aria gestured to Alinea''s discarded clothing with an air of contempt, "Have them burned. Milly, you''ll assist me." "Burn the rags. Weave the silk." The attendants chirped again in unison confirming their understanding of their orders. "If you will wait, I shall return with something suitable to your tastes." She said, excusing herself to the back of the shop and leaving Alinea momentarily alone with Rennik. Her eyes met his for a moment. Seeing something like hunger burning in his crimson eyes, she quickly placed her attention back on the floor and hugged her arms tight to herself, futilely trying to cover her exposed body. Rennik lifts her chin with a gentleness that surprises her, his gaze capturing her once more. "You have nothing to be ashamed of." He whispers. Any minute now she was sure she might burst into flames. Suddenly Rennik''s massive wings unfurled and enveloped Alinea, cocooning her within their protective embrace. Alinea''s heart raced with fear, embarrassment, vulnerability as she found herself pressed against Rennik''s powerful form, her bare skin in contact with the warm velvety softness of his wings, which felt like a feathered robe against her body. The bell over the shop door rang as another customer entered. Though he had forced her to undress in front of himself and Aria, he had been quick to shield her naked body from sight of this other demon. Alinea''s heart pounded in her ears, the sound made more deafening by Rennik''s own steady heartbeat. "Lord Rennik?" The demon spoke in a voice like shoveled gravel that further rattled Alinea''s nerves. Alinea tensed as heavy, clomping footsteps approached. "I heard an interesting rumor on my way here that you''d taken human pet." "Ael, my personal matters are not your concern." Rennik said cooly. "Mean nothing by it. Only that had I known you were finally seeking another pet, it would have been my honor to procure one in your name. Perhaps you''ll consider my talents for your next acquisition?" Rennik''s arms tightened subtly around Alinea. "I have no need or desire for your broken dolls." Rennik retorted, his tone cold as ice and hard as steel. "Yes! Of Course!" The other demon laughed, a terrible, rattling, gravelly cacophony that shook Alinea to the bone. "It''s certainly more fun to break them yourself. Your last, I heard, was a work of art." At Ael''s implication a sudden jolt of terror coursed through Alinea, she trembled in Rennik''s embrace wanting to pull away but trapped in his powerful arms and shrouded by his massive wings, she felt like she was suffocating. Rennik''s anger radiated off him in waves and the air became heavy, pressing down on her with a terrible weight. Her heart beat frantically against her ribs, her mind raced, she needed to escape. She needed to run. She had to get out, get away from this creature. Alinea squirmed in Rennik''s arms feeling desperate for escape but her struggle against his demonic strength was futile. "You dare speak of her?" Rennik''s voice was an explosion of barely masked furry, echoing with an otherworldly resonance that shook her to her very core. She shoved against Rennik''s grasp which only tightened, holding her still like a vice grip. She wanted to scream but she couldn''t breath. "I- My Lord, I meant no disrespect." The ground shook as the other demon stumbled back. "P- Please, forgive me!" "Your words are worthless," Rennik roared. "If you value your life, you''ll leave my sight at once." "Yes! Yes, of course! Thank you! Thank you, Lord Rennik!" Ael wailed as he hastily retreated from the shop. As the bell of the shop door chimed, the overwhelming fear that had gripped Alinea began to recede. Slowly Rennik''s grasp on her loosened but he didn''t release her. Within the cocoon of his wings he held her gently, stroking her hair soothingly as she sobbed against his chest, overwhelmed in the aftermath of the terror that had gripped her moments ago. "I''m sorry." He whispered, gently raking his fingers through her hair. "I''m sorry, I put you through that." Alinea looked up at him, wiping her tear stained eyes with her fists. "Y- you?" She took a shaky breath. "You made that happen?" Rennik nods, allowing his grasp on her to loosen a little more. "That was terrible." She choked out, her voice caught somewhere between another sob and an incredulous laugh. "It wasn''t my intention for you to experience that ability." He said, his crimson eyes cast down. "I forgot myself when Ael... overstepped." Rennik shook his head and let out a deep breath. Alinea chewed her lip, she wanted to understand but clearly it was a sore subject for Rennik. "Y-you can let go of me now." She said. As if trying to lighten the heavy mood that possesses them, he glanced down at her with a halfhearted smirk. "You sure?" He said. A fire spread over Alinea''s cheeks remembering the vulnerable position that prompted Rennik to cover her with his wings. "This is fine then." she said sullenly. A whisper of fluttering silk signaled the return of Aria Aria gracefully stepped into the room, her delicate fingers cradling a garment of shimmering silk. The design was subtle yet alluring, a testament to Aria¡¯s unrivaled craftsmanship. The garment was a slip dress of the finest spider silk, dyed a deep, sultry shade of burgundy that seemed to change and flow as it caught the light. The neckline was daringly low, the straps were thin and delicate, and the dress clung lovingly to every curve, hinting at the body beneath without revealing too much. It flowed down in a cascading manner, reaching mid-thigh, but on one side, a slit exposed a hint of Alinea''s leg. Alinea gulped, imagining herself in it. It was simultaneously more revealing than she was used to yet undeniably beautiful, capturing both the elegance and the sensuous intent behind its design. "I expect this will be to your liking, Lord Rennik," Aria said, holding out the dress for him to inspect. Her gaze was unwavering, filled with professional pride. Rennik''s gaze ran over the garment, and his lips curled in appreciation. The protective cocoon of Rennik¡¯s wings retracted, releasing Alinea and leaving her exposed once again. She took a tentative step toward the dress, her hand shaking slightly as she took it from Aria. The silk felt cool and smooth against her skin, and she took a deep breath, steeling herself. Alinea carefully slipped into the dress. It fit her like a glove, hugging her in all the right places and feeling like a second skin. As the luxurious fabric settled on her form, she took a deep breath before meeting Rennik¡¯s gaze. Rennik''s eyes roamed over Alinea, drinking in her transformed appearance with an intensity that made her feel simultaneously powerful and vulnerable. The room was silent but for the soft rustling of fabric and the rapid beating of Alinea''s heart. "Stunning," he whispered, his voice a husky murmur that sent a shiver of delight down her spine. Alinea tore her gaze from his, a blush coloring her cheeks. The power of his single word overwhelmed her. Aria cleared her throat gently, reclaiming the attention of the room. "I trust the dress is satisfactory?" "It''s perfect," Rennik declared. Aria gave a modest nod. "I''ll have more garments completed and delivered to your estate by this evening, my Lord." Rennik inclined his head, "Your work never ceases to impress, Aria.¡± ¡°I am happy to please.¡± Aria said. ¡°If you will, please excuse me. Silk does not weave itself.¡± With that the spider demon retreated to the back of her boutique.
