《Dungeon Ecologist》 Dungeon Ecologist Rewrite Hi All, Long period of silence I know. I wanted to give you all an update. You''ll notice that all previous chapters are currently down, and that''s because I have decided to do a rewrite of Dungeon Ecologist. During COVID-19, I had decided to try to make the story darker than I originally intended because that''s where I was mentally at that time. However, in the process I think the story quality itself suffered and that some pretty pivotal moments that already happened weren''t well written. With that in mind, I''m doing a full rewrite. Here''s what to expect. A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation. Things that won''t change: 1. The general plot points will not change in this rewrite. 2. No new characters will be added. 3. Abilities will not be altered, though I might improve the descriptions, but there will be no changes to function or use. Things that will change: 1. Character dialogue, descriptions and interactions. 2. Descriptive text in general. So what''s the timeline? Tentatively aiming for June 30th for the re-release and continuation of the novel. That will hopefully allow me to both re-write and to build up a stock of chapters. Thanks for supporting the novel to date and see you at the end of June! -Andrew Indefinite Hiatus Yo! So I do still plan to write this novel. Same as I still plan to write Grave of Heroes. However, I''m realizing more and more that we only have so much time on this world. LitRPG was ultimately a genre I picked up when I was depressed because it was easy to read and write, kind of like junk food for reading for me. That being said, much like junk food, the genre really leaves me dissatisfied. Rather than trying to improve the genre, as I was thinking about doing, I''d rather just write in genres that I uninhibitedly enjoy. LitRPG is just not what I want to write right now and the more I try to force it the more I resent writing. I already have a career where I sometimes have to do work I don''t enjoy, and work way too many hours towards it, so if I''m going to write in my free time then I want to write something that catches my interest and entertains me. I don''t want to treat writing like I do my career, it''s just not in me to do so. For fans of the LitRPG genre and fans of my past novels, sorry to disappoint. It''s just boring to me. For fans within these genres that also like my work, I recommend you try Super Supportive, Cultist of Cerebon, Delve, He Who Fights With Monsters, Artorian''s Archives (Kindle Unlimited), Millenial Mage, Chrysalis, Pale Lights, and The Gods are Bastards. Stolen story; please report. For next steps, no promises. I keep making that mistake, like I''m still a recent grad and a young kid who can afford to spend time on a novel I don''t care about. I''ve spent too much time on novels that were just passing fancies, and I don''t think my next novel will be Grave of Heroes, Book of Janus (Dungeon Ecologist), or Into An Abyss. I have a lot of outlines (about 20) for different novels, but no clue what I''ll go with. I''ve realized that the novels I want to write are not necessarily the novels I want to publish. If I ever write something worth publishing again, you''ll hear about it. And for anyone who is a true diehard fan, even if I never publish a novel again, I''ll at least publish how Grave of Heroes and Dungeon Ecology would have ended before I die. I hope that by freeing myself up to write what I want to write that it won''t come to that, but still I already have the notes typed up for both as a just in case. See you when I see you! Update Hi All, It''s been months since an update so I wanted to provide you all with some info. I have been working through what I actually want to write. That may seem trivial, but the reality is that I only have so much time in this world and a lot of it is spent making a living (which my writing is not able to achieve for me currently). Thus, if I''m spending time on writing I want it to be writing a story I actually enjoy, rather than just a story I think is commercially viable. It''s something that matters a lot to me and impacts my ability to be productive as an author. That being said, I don''t love LitRPG. I enjoy elements of LitRPG, the progression, the potential for variety even if many authors don''t take advantage of it, but ultimately I don''t like the limiting elements. The "system" as the only expression or means of magic feels incredibly limiting. I admire authors that can work within those constraints, and there are many LitRPG novels I enjoy as a reader, but as a writer it''s not what I like. I enjoy a more flexible and varietal magic system. However, I don''t want to abandon all of my characters or concepts that I''ve worked on. Some I may, but others I don''t want to. Thus, I''ve decided to begin a fundamental reworking of what I''ve written previously. The "Book of Janus" which was the LitRPG basis for Dungeon Ecologist will be no more. I''m going to fundamentally reimagine the world and systems involved to be more in line with what I want to write. If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. What does that mean for you as readers: the novels I previously wrote will not exist in their previous form. I may use character backstories or plotlines that I had envisioned for these characters. However, they will not fully resemble the characters, worlds, systems or plots that you are familiar with. I have 3 characters in particular that I had planned as later novels in the "Book of Janus" series that Dungeon Ecologist was a part of, but now they will be earlier novels. I have begun redoing the worldbuidling from scratch, though my character concepts remain the same in most ways. I''ll leave it up to chance to decide which I first publish, as I want to write from all of their perspectives before I decide which makes more sense as the main character. For any of the 10 fans of "Into An Aybss", it will be incorporated into the series I''m envisioning that will also incorporate the "Book of Janus" characters like Basil Thorne. Basil would be a much later character and plotline rather than a starting character and plotline. As for fans of "Evil Star" also known as "Grave of Heroes", that will be a separate series I release in the future. Lastly, for fans of "See No Evil" (all 6 of you), it will also be a separate series. I likely will release a parallel novel to it which was previously only discussed and available on Patreon called "The Porcelain Goddess". That is my only plan for modern/urban fantasy novels at this time. Thanks for following my novels through all of the hiatuses and changes I go through. I feel like I finally have a sense of what I as a (finally) stable adult want to write, and I hope that will in time translate to stable releases. My 20s were turbulent, but I hope my 30s will be prolific. Best, Andrew Reise Polling What You Want Hi All, I''ve been going through my own situation, but I want to get a sense of where you all are at too. I''ve had a bunch of changes in what I want to write, and some people have made their voice pretty clear about those changes with the unfollows and comments. However, for those who haven''t, I''d like to get an idea of what you''re most interested in as I prepare for what comes next. To that end, I''ve prepared a poll. The results of the poll will not determine what I do next, but will be something I consider. The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. Thus, if you want to make your voice heard in a meaningful way, respond to the poll below. Thanks, Andrew Reise
