 Prologue

    My name is Maxwell and It all started when I was 10. My parents always assured me that I was normal like everyone else but something just didn''t click. I thought I had special powers. I thought I could see things that others could not, another world entirely but I only caught a look once on one faithful summer night. Mom tucked me into bed and as I drifted off holding my beloved bear Fredrick that''s when I heard it. The sound of sandpaper being ripped through my room as a chill cascaded into my room. I made one peak and in an instant, I saw it.


    There was an open rift inside. I saw a five-pointed star in the center of deep space. My body wasn''t being controlled by me anymore¡­at least it felt like it. I was nervous and scared hugging my little bear tightly. I didn''t quite make it in there but it was calling to me. Tendreles Purple tendrils surrounded me as I curled up whimpering softly.

    ¡°Please no..! You can''t hurt me, you can''t taze me or knock me down..without something very precious going squish.¡± I cried out as they attempted to grab it. I could feel the fur on my bear Fredrick tighten around me as he shifted forms in my eyes. He grew two more arms and had the look of a wrinkled tardigrade. Whatever he was, it deflected the monster away as it sunk back into its abode. I hid under the covers passing out.


    Morning came and I drowsily looked at Fredrick only to see he was back to normal. I frantically ran downstairs and told my mom about what I saw saying it was not a dream. Showing her my knocked-over chair and desk seemed to convince her. Mom was always concerned for my health so one psychiatric visit later I got diagnosed with early-set schizophrenia. After that day I was now anything but normal.


    That was 8 years ago. I''m 18 now, on medication, and living life the best I can spreading the good word with my music. Haven''t had an episode in years and I aim to keep it that way for the greatest person in my life right now.. handsome Samuel! After all that stuff wasn''t real, just tricks from my mind right?
