《A New Dawn》 Chapter One As the piercing sound of rushing water filled the room, James awoke with a start, his heart pounding in his chest. Confusion clouded his mind as he sat up, his eyes scanning the darkness of his bedroom. The incessant noise was unfamiliar, sending a shiver down his spine. With a sense of foreboding creeping over him, he reached out trying to find the nightstand and blinked in disbelief at the eerie message glowing brightly in front of his eyes: "Welcome to your new life." James had expected to wake to his alarm, go to work, return home after another mind draining day, and try to convince himself to do it all again tomorrow. Life held very little meaning to him. Nothing mattered, he did what he was supposed to and that was it. There was no joy or happiness in his life. He had wished so many times for it just to end, but of course it could not be that easy. Instead of the sweet release of death, he got a message stamped in front of his eyes. No matter where he looked it followed his vision flashing bright, like it was mocking him. ¡°Ok, ok calm down, time to figure this out, he said to himself. Concentrating on the message it opened to a new screen. Welcome James to your new life. I know you just wanted it all to end, but that isn''t really how it works. For some an afterlife of bliss or torture is possible, but many do not meet the requirements for either. So they get to try again and again until hopefully the find their end. You have been at this for a long, long time and never seem to get any closer to that end you so desire. So this time will be different, there will be no restarts. You will live eternally, you will no longer age, need sleep, or food. You will stay in alive until you reach the requirements for an afterlife. Your only choice will be whether you stay on Earth or chance the multiverse. Be warned most of the multiverse is beyond your comprehension. Some may be similar, but most will be new and unbelievable. So choose wisely. If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. James was frozen with indecision. ¡°I''ll live forever, no need to eat or sleep, and what is a multiverse,¡± thought James. His main thoughts were how bad life had been, and now he would have to go through it forever without even a break for sleep. He couldn''t do it, he would go crazy in no time and spend eternity locked up in some psychiatric hospital. No there was only real choice for him, it was time to see what this multiverse thing was all about. Concentrating one the message, he choose to chance the multiverse, whatever that meant. As soon as his choice was made everything started fading away until all he could see was darkness and the message still in front of his eyes. Welcome to the multiverse, selection will begin in a moment. Chapter Two As the darkness enveloped James, his mind raced with a mixture of fear and curiosity. The unknown awaited him in this mysterious multiverse, a concept he struggled to comprehend. Suddenly, a blinding light pierced through the darkness, and he found himself standing in a vast, empty void. Before him, shimmering portals materialized, each leading to a different world, a different reality. James was overwhelmed by the myriad of choices laid out before him. He hesitated, unsure of where to start or what consequences his decision might have. The first portal showed a futuristic city, tall gleaming buildings, complete with flying cars. The buildings were all guarded by soldiers covered in full armor holding a variety of advanced weponry. James gave it a quick look and moved on, it did not look like a place he would enjoy spending eternity. He looked through other portals showing different scenes, a world of ice and snow with vicious beast fighting for food and shelter. In another an underwater world filled with an alien race of fish-like people. A third showed an advanced civilization with huge spaceships and travel through the stars. He looked through many portals until one caught his attention. It showed a world similar to medieval earth, with quaint villages and people on horseback. That was not what captured his attention, what had him staring was a group hunting a large beast. It was unfamiliar to him, but looked extremely dangerous. The group did not panic and fought the beast with a large array of what seemed like magical powers. One man in front caused his shield to glow attracting the animal, just to have it bounce off like he was made of stone. Another disappeared and reappeared behind the beast cutting muscle and tendons in its back legs. A third finished chanting and a large spike of stone appeared in front of him, then shot off to hit the beast. While the beast was stunned the first two ran in and made short work of putting it down for good. This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version. This world was so different than any other he had seen. Magic was possible. If he could learn magic maybe immortality could be an adventure, something to look forward to. It did not seem to be controlled by some authoritarian government, with guards telling everyone what to do. Its small remote villages looked almost idealistic. Here he could learn and grow and without the need to eat or sleep he could grow quite quickly if he applied himself. If he was going to spend eternity doing something, that something would be learning all the magic this world had to offer. With a deep breath, he stepped towards the portal, his heart pounding in anticipation. As he crossed the threshold, a rush of wind and color engulfed him, transporting him to a world unlike anywhere he had ever been. This new world was vibrant and alive, with towering trees and sparkling rivers. Strange creatures roamed the landscape, their presence both awe-inspiring and terrifying. James felt a surge of adrenaline as he realized the magnitude of possibilities that lay ahead in the multiverse. With newfound determination, he set off into the unknown, ready to embrace this new life and all the adventures it held. The journey had just begun, and he was ready to get started. The room before him dissappeared and replaced by Zairilia. The world before him was a blend of beauty and danger, unlike anything he had ever experienced. As he took his first steps into this new realm, he felt a sense of freedom and possibility wash over him. The air was filled with strange scents, and the sounds of the wilderness surrounded him, making his heart race with anticipation. Exploring this magical world, James watched creatures, from a safe distance, he had only ever dreamed of - mystical beings with powers beyond his comprehension. As he roamed through the enchanting landscapes, he stumbled upon a village where most villagers welcomed him. There were a few that looked at him strangely, but most were friendly. James decided to stay around for a little while, just until he could decide what to do first. He was immortal so he wanted to do everything in time, but where to start. He still preferred being alone, so he knew he wouldn''t be in the village long. He took jobs cleaning out barns, building fence, planting crops, and any other odd jobs he could find. His savings were building at a good rate since he didn''t need to buy food or rent a place to rest. He kept working until he saved enough for some basic survival gear, an old sword, and very basic hide armor. He had noticed a marked improvement in his physical ability as he worked one job after another. He decided it must be the magic in the air he was told about, helping him improve so quickly. Then he remembered the list he should be able to see to help keep track off all his changes. "So, I''ll be able to gain strength through combat and improve my abilities through training," he mused, trying to wrap his head around the idea of absorbing energy from defeated beasts. As he continued to read, a sense of determination washed over him. "I need to adapt to this world, blend in, and make the most of this opportunity," he thought, already feeling a surge of excitement at the possibilities that lay ahead. Looking around at the vibrant and magical landscape of Zairilia, James felt a sense of freedom he had never experienced before. The thought of exploring this new world, learning its secrets, and unlocking his full potential filled him with a sense of purpose he had been lacking for so long. "I can''t wait to see what kind of adventures await me here," James said to himself, his eyes sparkling with newfound enthusiasm. He was ready to embrace this new life in Zairilia and make the most of every opportunity that came his way. If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. He had so many questions, but the biggest question had to be his health. ¡°It was 20/20, so what happens when it hits zero. I''m immortal so I won''t die. Will I just just lie there until my health comes back. This seems like a very bad set up, I could be imprisoned and tortured forever. Maybe I will respawn where I last slept. No I don''t sleep or was it I don''t need to sleep but still can. Too risky, I will have to test this eventually, but maybe I should first work on not being caught. I think I will take a short nap in the hayloft just incase,¡± James thought. Waking up a few hours later James determined he could sleep. It did not seem to make him physically feel any better or worse, but mentally it eased his thoughts for a time. ¡°Now how do I avoid being caught,¡± James said to himself. Looks like the first set of skills I need to develop are rogue. I need to work on stealth, tracking, sneaking past enemies, and maybe lockpicking. Embracing his new goals, James set out to hone his newfound skills as a rogue in the mystical world of Zairilia. He spent his months practicing stealth in the dense forests, learning to move silently and blend into the shadows. Tracking became second nature to him as he followed the footprints of elusive creatures through the wilderness, sharpening his senses and intuition. As he delved deeper into his training, James discovered a talent for sneaking past enemies undetected, using his agility and cunning to outsmart any potential threats. Lockpicking proved to be a challenging yet rewarding skill to master, requiring patience and precision. With each passing day, James felt himself growing more adept at the art of stealth and espionage. His movements became fluid and graceful, his senses heightened to the slightest sound or movement in his surroundings. He relished the thrill of outsmarting foes and navigating treacherous terrain with finesse. Armed with his rogue skills and a newfound sense of purpose, James felt ready to embark on his first solo mission. He planned to infiltrate a mysterious fortress rumored to hold valuable treasures and ancient secrets. Magic: none James stood outside the imposing walls of the fortress, his heart pounding with a mix of excitement and nerves. He had spent months preparing for this moment, honing his skills as a rogue and studying the layout of the fortress meticulously. As he surveyed the area, he noticed the guards patrolling the perimeter, their movements predictable yet vigilant. Taking a deep breath to steady his nerves, James focused on his training and slipped into the shadows, moving silently and swiftly towards his target. The night air was cool against his skin as he crept closer to the fortress, his eyes sharp and senses heightened. Using his newfound abilities in stealth, James navigated past the guards effortlessly, his movements almost ethereal. With each step, he felt a surge of adrenaline and a rush of exhilaration at the thought of the treasures that awaited him within the fortress walls. Upon reaching the outer wall, James carefully scaled it, his agile form moving with grace and precision. As he reached the top, he peered over the edge and saw the inner courtyard below, bustling with activity. Keeping to the shadows, he made his way across the walls, while studying the courtyard below. The courtyard was full of undead, both skeletons and zombies moved chaotically below. Having no idea how to fight such creatures, he decided it would be best to get in and out unnoticed with whatever he could find. He would come back and destroy these creatures when he could. James knew he had to tread carefully to avoid alerting the undead creatures lurking in the courtyard below. He made his way through the maze-like corridors of the fortress, his rogue skills allowing him to evade detection at every turn. As he searched for the rumored treasures and ancient secrets hidden within the fortress, he found himself faced with locked doors and hidden passageways. His training in lockpicking served him well as he skillfully bypassed each obstacle, inching closer to his goal. Finally, after navigating the treacherous halls, James came across a hidden chamber filled with glittering jewels, ancient artifacts, and mysterious tomes. His eyes widened in awe at the sight before him, knowing that these treasures held the key to unlocking power, magic, and more. With a sense of triumph and anticipation, James carefully gathered the valuable items and made his way out of the fortress, his heart pounding with the thrill of his successful heist. As he emerged into the night air, he knew that this was only the beginning of his adventures in the mystical world of Zairilia. James had proven to himself that he was capable of navigating the dangers and coming out unseen. ¡°Now it is time to examine the loot,¡± James thought as he raced away through the forest.
