《Heaven's gate》 The first step ¡°Huff¡..Huff¡± Silas wiped his sweat off and focused on the grasshopper that was trying to escape from him, ¡°Still a couple more of these bugs and I can successfully pass the assessment¡±. The fist-sized grasshopper gave him a side glance and jumped from the ground trying to get into a bush that was nearby, ¡± Oh, damn¡± Silas grumbled and stomped the ground heavily and bounced into the bush. *Bam* A poor guy could be seen struggling to come out of the bush with twigs and leaves intertwined in his hair, but a small smile could be seen on his face as he muttered ¡°Finally¡±, he was holding a grasshopper in each of his hands. ¡°Luckily, I found another one next to it ¡°Silas muttered. With light steps he ran for a dozen meters and halted, picking a bag that was hung in a tree branch, he took out two small glass bottles opened them one by one, and placed the grasshoppers separately in the glass container. Silas then took out the map and saw the marked location as he muttered ¡°It¡¯s time to get back¡±. He navigated through the map and walked for nearly an hour, while on the way he saw more than a dozen people who were a similar age to him, most of them looked exhausted, even though the grasshoppers were low-level monsters they were pretty quick and for mortals like them catching them was a slightly time-consuming job but not difficult one. Soon a huge gate came into his view, behind it was a pitch-black vortex that might induce fear in the newcomers who did not get used to the strangeness, Silas quickened his pace and as soon as he came near to it he got sucked into the vortex and his vision turned blurry for a second. when he regained his vision he found himself standing in a bustling area with huge monitors that were showing various kinds of data, Silas looked around and soon found Room.no 58, he began to make his way towards the room, This was the instruction given to him before he entered the gate. He soon found his allotted table placed his bags on the table unzipped it and started taking the bottles one by one, he pressed a button on the table and a holographic screen popped up, he scrolled through the menu and selected the name ¡°Meadow hopper¡±. A short introduction to the meadow hopper was shown in the display ¡± The Meadow Hopper is a creature that dwells in sunlit meadows and grassy fields. With its vibrant green exoskeleton adorned with intricate patterns resembling blades of grass, the Meadow Hopper seamlessly blends into its surroundings. Known for its nimble and agile movements, this low-level monster navigates the lush terrain with ease, using its powerful hind legs to execute impressive leaps and sudden bursts of speed. Despite its small size, the Meadow Hopper possesses a set of delicate yet resilient wings, allowing it to flutter gracefully between tufts of grass. It is primarily herbivorous, sustaining itself on the tender shoots and foliage found in its natural habitat. While generally docile, the Meadow Hopper can exhibit territorial behavior, especially during mating season when males engage in vibrant displays to attract potential mates. Adventurers traversing meadows should be cautious, as the Meadow Hopper may alert larger creatures to their presence with its distinctive chirping calls.¡± Silas scrolled through it quickly as he had already learned the basic details about the grasshopper, seeing the contents displayed on the screen his eyelids twitched 1. Crispy Grasshopper Skewers: ? Harvest fresh Meadow Hoppers. ? Clean and season with a blend of herbs, spices, and a hint of citrus. ? Skewer and roast until crispy. ? Serve with a zesty dipping sauce. 2. Meadow Hopper Salad: ? Collect tender Meadow Hopper nymphs. ? Saut¨¦ lightly and toss over a bed of mixed greens. ? Add cherry tomatoes, edible flowers, and a light vinaigrette. ? Garnish with toasted seeds. 3. Grasshopper Pilaf: If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. ? Prepare a fragrant pilaf with rice, vegetables, and aromatic spices. ? Silas took a deep breath, If people from a couple of decades ago had seen this menu they would have frowned with displeasure, but things changed when gates started appearing mysteriously on the world, but as you might have expected there were neither monster outbreaks nor half of the population disappeared After the gates got manifested nothing strange occurred. people were afraid to go near them at the beginning but soon the government began to send military personnel into them. They soon found out that they should meet certain conditions to enter the gate. first thing, the gates were grouped into different colors and they could only enter the gate that looked like it was made up of wood. when they entered the gate they found out that they were transported into grassland that was laid with some intermittent bushes, when they moved forward they found Insects that were nearly a dozen times larger than their counterparts in the outside world, soon some specimens were brought outside and by the extensive research that they conducted on them they found out that consuming the flesh of this insect improves the gene level of people and when the body is saturated it will evolve and their body will undergo slight changes and will be strengthened overall. Once a person has evolved, they cannot enter the wooden gate and can only enter the iron gate. Based on this, a power system was put together 1. Wooden gate- Novice 2. Iron gate-Apprentice 3. Bronze Gate- Voyager 4. Silver gate- Luminary And so on¡.. (Now back to the current timeline) Silas took out the grasshoppers one by one and began to dissect them as it was shown in the tutorial video, Cooking is a basic skill in the current generation as some dishes need to be cooked to be consumed, and who the heck eats raw grasshopper (^_^). All the cooking utensils were present on the table and after a dozen minutes Silas stopped cooking, he closed his eyes and pushed the skewer inside his mouth, if one did not know it was a grasshopper that was cooked, they would never believe it, it was quite flavorful and it was quite meaty as well. As soon as he swallowed a warm current flowed inside his stomach and began to spread all over his body, and he could feel his body strengthen a little bit. Silas began to tear into the meat as he could feel the improvement in his body. soon nearly a dozen crickets disappeared from the skewer. Silas closed his eyes and started to feel the improvements in his body, with some nervousness he sat down cross-legged as his muscles and bones began to ache a little bit, Silas who was 179cm tall began to grow a little bit and his muscles also started to get well-defined. After a couple of minutes, Silas opened his eyes and was amazed to see the improvement he had gone through. He sighed with relief and looked ahead, he saw many people with disappointed expressions, The sad truth is not everyone can evolve successfully, based on the records only 15% of humans could evolve successfully. As everyone completed the task, they began to go through a screening test and everyone who evolved successfully was sent into a separate room where their details were recorded. This was the main reason the government operated such facilities, moreover, they were still studying the evolution of humans and All the wooden gates in the country were under the strict scrutiny of the government. The people who evolved successfully must be registered, this measure was taken to reduce the crime committed by the evolved people, as the government has already learned a lesson from the past. Even though most people considered this as a restriction, it came with some benefits as well. The government provides a substantial monetary benefit and they also have special groups and resources that can only be accessed or purchased by the people who have their unique awakened ID. Silas walked out with a smile with a badge on his chest and his hand held a bag that consisted of some basic supplies. When he came out, he found some people pointing their fingers and talking in a hushed voice with envy as not everyone can evolve successfully, Silas felt proud as this was his first step towards a bright future. Chapter 2: The Hunt Silas returned to his tiny apartment and collapsed onto the bed, closing his eyes. The day''s events still felt surreal. His life, though not terrible, had never been easy. At 16, he had moved to the city, leaving his grandparents behind in the village. His parents had disappeared into a gate a decade ago, leaving him with little in the way of savings. Like many teenagers of his generation, Silas aspired to become an Evolver. This profession was highly coveted, as Evolvers were among the wealthiest individuals on Blue Star. After collecting his thoughts, Silas took out the storage bracelet given to him by the Association. It was a newbie gift package. Using the spiritual energy he had just obtained after becoming an Evolver, he operated the bracelet. It contained a space of roughly five cubic meters and held a variety of potions, a set of leather armor made from a monster from the Iron Gate, emergency food rations, $50,000 as a startup fund, and a monthly allowance of $10,000. Silas decided his first purchase would be a virtual cabin. He chose a model costing $20,000¡ªnot the best, but it had all the necessary features. Virtual cabins were common, accessible to everyone, but with restricted areas only for Awakeners. The virtual world was divided into regions with stringent requirements. The virtual cabin arrived at his doorstep within an hour. Silas quickly set it up and entered. A quick scan uploaded his biometrics to the server, registering his ID. He soon found himself in a bustling virtual street, amazed at how indistinguishable it was from reality. After familiarizing himself with the surroundings, Silas located the special teleport option for Awakeners and used it. He appeared in a more grandeur area with fewer people. Following the map, he quickly reached a shop bustling with people, where Awakeners could purchase weapons. The Association organized this legal channel for online purchases, although similar shops existed in the real world, but far from Silas. Having some training in basic martial arts and a preference for blades, Silas ordered an alloy weapon and logged out. Despite wanting to explore more of the virtual world, he decided against it for now due to limited funds. The alloy weapon was soon delivered to his house. Silas marveled at its cold edge. The sword was heavy, over 30 kg, but he could lift it easily. Factory-made standard alloy weapons were cheaper than their counterparts made by blacksmiths with special materials from the gates. Silas placed the sword in his storage ring along with the other supplies and prepared to leave. He took a cab to an Iron rank gate. Deciding against joining a team, as Iron rank gates were where newbies transformed into Awakeners, Silas believed soloing would strengthen his mentality. Only those pursuing paths like potion-making or blacksmithing hired teams. Stolen story; please report. To evolve, one had to hunt the beast or be part of the squad that did. Monster meat, while nutritious and a luxury for normal people, didn''t grant evolution points unless hunted by the consumer. Standing before the Iron Gate, Silas''s heart pounded. Clenching his fist, he leaped into the gate. Silas found himself standing in a deep jungle. Relieved not to be near a monster, he vigilantly looked around to assess the situation he was in. Silas stood at the center of the dense jungle, his senses heightened. The air was thick with the scent of earth and vegetation. He gripped his alloy sword tightly, the weight of it reassuring in his hand. His heart pounded, but he forced himself to take steady breaths. Suddenly, a rustling sound to his left made him freeze. Silas turned, his eyes scanning the underbrush. From the shadows leaped a creature about the size of a large wolf but with scales instead of fur and glowing red eyes. It was an Ironclad Lizard, a common but dangerous beast in the Iron rank gates. Silas felt a surge of adrenaline. He had trained for this moment, but facing a real monster was different from sparring in the School. The lizard hissed, baring its razor-sharp teeth, and lunged at him. Instinct took over. Silas sidestepped the attack, feeling the rush of air as the creature''s jaws snapped shut where he had been standing. He swung his sword in a wide arc, aiming for the lizard¡¯s neck. The blade connected with a clang, sending sparks flying but only grazing the scales. The lizard turned quickly, whipping its tail at Silas. He barely managed to block with his sword, the impact sending a jolt up his arms. This creature was strong, but Silas knew he couldn¡¯t afford to hesitate. He needed to find a weakness. Remembering his teachings in school, he focused his spiritual energy, letting it flow into his limbs and enhance his movements. Some of the spiritual energy flowed through the circuits in the sword, making it sharper and sturdier. Silas circled the lizard, looking for an opening. The creature lunged again, but this time Silas was ready. He ducked under its snapping jaws and drove his sword upward into the softer scales of its belly. The lizard screeched in pain, thrashing violently. Silas held on, pushing the blade deeper until the creature''s movements slowed and finally ceased. He pulled the sword free, breathing heavily, and took a step back to assess his surroundings, worried the commotion might alert other monsters. His first victory felt both exhilarating and sobering. This was just the beginning, Silas reminded himself. He needed to keep moving. Silas quickly cut the lizard into large chunks of meat and stored them in his ring before disappearing from the place. Silas wiped the sweat from his brow and continued through the jungle, staying alert. He decided to take a short break as he had used up nearly half of his spiritual energy. Due to his lack of experience, he had used more energy than necessary. As he ventured deeper, the jungle became denser. Suddenly, Silas found an opening and found himself amidst ancient ruins. This was not a rare sight in the gate; people believed that once, inhabitants lived here, though no one knew what had happened to them. He decided to rest here. In the middle of the ruins, he found a small pond and decided to wash the meat and cook there. His newbie package included equipment to mask scents in an area of five square meters, perfect for cooking without attracting monsters. Silas quickly set up the equipment, which consisted of four pieces placed in a square shape. Once activated, it created a barrier. After setting up the barrier, Silas took out a large jug to fetch water from the pond to boil. He bent down with the jug, but suddenly, a strong force pulled him into the pond. Silas struggled but found himself unable to break free. Chapter 3: Dark Blob Silas''s vision blurred as the strong force pulled him into the pond. After a few seconds, he hit the ground hard, causing a sharp pain to shoot through his body. He winced and looked around vigilantly, trying to decipher his surroundings. The area was dimly lit by bioluminescent moss covering the walls. Silas found himself in a cavern with ancient stone carvings, faintly glowing with an eerie blue light. The air was damp and cold, filled with the smell of wet stone and earth. "Where am I?" he muttered to himself, pushing himself to his feet and brushing off the dirt. As his eyes adjusted to the dim light, he noticed a narrow tunnel leading further into the cavern. Taking a deep breath, Silas decided to explore. He gripped his sword tightly, ready for any danger that might lurk ahead. The tunnel twisted and turned, opening into a larger chamber. In the center of the room stood a pedestal, and on it, something that looked like a blob of dark red liquid was floating. Seeing it, Silas frowned as he guessed vaguely. He had heard that some people obtained mysterious opportunities while they were in the gate which could make them a phoenix in a single leap, but he also remembered that sometimes these opportunities were all just traps and were enough to end one''s life. Silas cautiously circled the altar in full alert, trying to find any clues regarding the blob of dark red liquid. There were some ancient carvings on the side of the altar, but Silas, with his limited knowledge, could not decipher the words. After contemplating for nearly twenty minutes, Silas decided to get close to the blob to try and guess, so he climbed the altar. But suddenly Silas stopped in his tracks as a loud boom echoed in his mind. *BOOM* "Curse of the forsaken, Bearer of the ill fates, Harbinger of Destiny, Are you ready to accept the mantle for the clan of $%#&@%#" An ancient voice sounded in Silas''s mind, shaking his mind. Even though he didn''t know the language, he could understand the words. When the words ended, Silas''s mind was pulled into a vision. Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. *ROAR* A gigantic beast the size of a planet roamed in the void, its eyes larger than a planet. It swallowed many of the planets on its way. It suddenly saw a planet shining like an emerald green gem. Its eyes showed a hint of greed as it came closer to the planet, ready to swallow it whole, but suddenly a thunderous rumble echoed as a palm came from the planet. Its size grew larger and larger as it came closer to the beast, and at one point it grew a hundred times the size of the beast. Seeing this, the beast panicked and tried to flee, but before it could move, it was crushed by the arm and lost its life and it got dragged back to the planet. Silas jolted awake, his body pale and blood dripping from all his seven orifices, and he was trembling uncontrollably. Silas could not believe what he saw; he had never heard anything even close to that. From that vision, he was pretty sure that Blue Star could not even fit between the teeth of the monster. Even though there were guesses that there are extraterrestrial species, they have not come in contact with them, and people even thought that the ancient ruins present in the gates were part of the previous civilization that lived on Blue Star. But if what he saw was true, then he could not even think of what was waiting outside for them in the universe. He could only think that Blue Star was lucky to not come in contact with beasts of that caliber. Silas looked at the drop of dark blob floating on the altar. He had his doubts, as it had been two decades since gates started to manifest in the world, and no one had found this place. ''Wait...'' Silas began to rethink the words that were said. ''Do I have some sort of destiny?... maybe.'' But Silas was pretty sure that he was just a normal guy, albeit slightly lucky, as he was able to awaken as an Evolver and he did not have any notable talents. Silas hesitated a little bit about getting close to that dark blob but thinking about the fates that planets suffered and about that hand, Silas knew he needed to get stronger; otherwise, he might not even know how he ended up dead. Silas stood and wiped away the drops of blood. Even though his legs were still trembling, Silas took a step forward. He still had empty potion bottles that he previously used. He decided to store the blob in one of the potion bottles for now as he decided that he needed to think it through. But fate had it different as Silas stumbled forward due to the weakness and directly fell on top of the blob. It touched his forehead, like a drop of water coming in contact with a dry land, it immediately soaked into his forehead. ''Shit.'' This was the last word that Silas remembered as he lost consciousness and fell forward. Chapter 4: Frostbite berries Silas found himself running in the middle of a dense jungle as he was chased by all sorts of weird beasts. He didn¡¯t know how he got here or why he was being chased by these beasts, but one thing he was certain about was that if he stopped, he was going to die. The most bizarre thing of all was that he was running on all fours. Silas figured that he was not a human anymore. Had he somehow been reincarnated as a beast after being killed by that drop of dark blob? Silas really wanted to go and smash his head against a stone wall. He finally realized that the dark blob was never an opportunity¡ it was a one-way ticket to hell¡ a trap set by someone else. He would have been really happy if he had been reincarnated as some sort of prince with a protagonist template, but instead, he was reincarnated as a four-legged creature that was running for its life. As Silas¡¯ mind was racing with thoughts on how to escape this calamity, he found himself out of breath, having run for quite some time, and he was feeling quite hungry as well. Silas looked back and heaved a sigh of relief as he had successfully managed to escape from the monsters. Being small had its advantages in a terrain like this, where the trees stood like mountains and huge beasts couldn¡¯t maneuver as easily as he could. Silas looked around to find something to eat. Even though there were many things he needed answers for, he decided to think about them after filling his stomach. After looking around, Silas found a plant with blue-colored berries on it. The berries looked like ice jades. They had a wonderful fragrance that tempted Silas. Even though he didn¡¯t know if they were poisonous, he decided to steel his stomach and give them a try, as the smell was too alluring to pass up. Silas reached out with one of his claws and plucked the berries. He found that even though the berry was soft to the touch, it was cold as ice. ¡®Maybe it¡¯s some sort of magical plant with special effects,¡¯ Silas thought as his eagerness to try the fruit increased. He threw the berry into his mouth and took a bite. A cold and sweet taste entered his mouth, and his whole body felt refreshed. Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. ¡°Frostbite Berry consumed. Evolution points = 0.01.¡± Hearing the notification that rang inside his head, Silas was shocked and spat out the berry. Evolution points? Why does that sound familiar to the Gate¡¯s evolution system? ¡®Did I get reincarnated into a Gate?¡¯ Silas wondered aloud. Since Silas knew that he could increase his strength by simply eating the berries, he was overjoyed, as there were a couple hundred berries on that plant as well. Silas jumped into the berry bush in a frenzy. If he were a little larger, he could have swallowed the plant whole¡ Alas, his small stature made it impossible, so he had to swallow the berries one by one. ¡°Frostbite Berry consumed. Evolution points = 0.01.¡± ¡°Frostbite Berry consumed. Evolution points = 0.01.¡± ¡°Frostbite Berry consumed. Evolution points = 0.01.¡± ... ¡°Frostbite Berry consumed. Evolution points = 0.01.¡± ¡°Frostbite Berry consumed. Evolution points = 0.¡± ¡°Frostbite Berry consumed. Evolution points = 0.¡± Silas paused as he soon realized that he wasn¡¯t getting further evolution points. Is there a limit to how much I can gain from eating the Frostbite Berry? Silas thought. He did not know how many points he had received from eating the berries, as he forgot to keep count. ¡°How great it would be if I had something like a status window,¡± Silas mumbled. As soon as he said those words, a blue transparent window appeared before his eyes, rendering him speechless. Name: Silas Race: ??? Affinity: ??? Evolution Level: Novice Evolution Points: 0.1 Note: Frostbite Berry = 10/10 (Today¡¯s limit) Too many Frostbite Berries might give you frostbite. Advised to consume only in a limited quantity. ¡°So only 10 Frostbite Berries per day,¡± Silas mumbled. To be honest, he wasn¡¯t too worried, as he could come back tomorrow to eat more. Silas, who was supposed to find a way out of his current predicament, completely forgot about it and began to roam around the forest to find different berries. Chapter 5: All for one ¡®This one looks like a fire gem,¡¯ Silas thought as he came across another plant and inspected it carefully. The only thing it had in common with the previous one was the sweet fragrance wafting out from it. Silas used his claws to pluck one of the berries and threw it into his mouth. ¡®Mmmm, this one is a little bit spicy,¡¯ Silas thought as he swallowed the berry. Hot juice entered Silas'' throat and gave him a blissful feeling. ¡®This is how life should be,¡¯ Silas muttered as he closed his eyes. Back on the Blue Star, he never had the chance to taste such delicacies. ¡°Blazebloom Berry consumed, Evolution points = 0.01.¡± Seeing the notification that popped up, Silas felt happy. If I could find hundreds of such plants, maybe I could soon get enough evolution points to evolve¡ Silas knew that his first priority right now was to evolve and obtain enough strength to move through the forest unimpeded. He didn¡¯t want to be in a similar situation as today, where he was chased around by other monsters. Right now, the only option for Silas to obtain evolution points was these fruits. Hunting other monsters was out of the question, as Silas was the weakest monster in the whole forest¡ Maybe there were some things weaker than him, but he hadn¡¯t come across them until now. Silas soon gobbled up a dozen of fruits, and similar notifications popped up: ¡°Blazebloom Berry consumed, Evolution points = 0.01.¡± ¡°Blazebloom Berry consumed, Evolution points = 0.01.¡± ¡°Blazebloom Berry consumed, Evolution points = 0.01.¡± ... ¡°Blazebloom Berry consumed, Evolution points = 0.01.¡± ¡°Blazebloom Berry consumed, Evolution points = 0.¡± ¡®Mmm, onto the next one,¡¯ Silas mumbled as he began to search for his next prey. His movements were like those of a seasoned hunter as he moved carefully, without making much noise, while keeping an eye out for any monsters that might be lurking nearby. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it. Soon, the sun began to set, and visibility in the area started to decrease. Silas had an inkling that night might be the time when some nocturnal beasts come out, and with less visibility, he was unwilling to get caught. So, he decided to end his hunt for today and find a good place to rest. Today, his hunt was quite ¡®fruitful.¡¯ Name: Silas Race: ??? Affinity: ??? Evolution Level: Novice Evolution Points: 0.9 Note: Frostbite Berry = 10/10 (Today¡¯s limit) Blazebloom Berry = 10/10 (Today¡¯s limit) Aquaheart Berry = 10/10 (Today¡¯s limit) ... Stormspark Berry = 10/10 (Today¡¯s limit) He was able to get his claws on nine different types of berries, including the Frostbite and Blazebloom Berries. There were other types of fruits in the forest as well, but they all grew on huge trees, and Silas, with his current strength, was unwilling to climb the trees and risk getting spotted. He felt that his chances of survival were higher by hiding in the undergrowth. As today¡¯s missions were completed, Silas began to search for a dwelling. He decided to spend some extra effort finding a good place, as he felt that he might be stuck in this situation for a while, and having a good place might help him from going insane. Silas soon found a little stream and quickly ran along it. At some point, Silas saw a pile of huge rocks with a narrow gap where he could fit perfectly. He was overjoyed upon seeing the place and quickly climbed the rocks after confirming there were no beasts nearby. The narrow gap extended like a cave, and as one went deeper, the gap got narrower until Silas reached a wide cave-like space. Looking around and confirming that there were no beasts nearby, Silas decided to make this place his home for now. He returned to the entrance, found some medium-sized stones, and blocked the cave entrance. Now I have enough privacy to sleep peacefully, Silas thought. As Silas lay on the cave floor, many thoughts ran through his mind. He still did not know if his main body had died and he had been reincarnated, or if this was all a dream. Silas'' eyelids became heavy as exhaustion hit him, and he closed his eyes. Chapter 6: Return Silas slowly opened his eyes and was stunned to see the familiar altar. What the hell happened? Was that all a dream? Silas refused to believe it was a dream¡ It was too vivid to be considered a dream, and people only remember parts of dreams, but Silas remembered everything that had transpired, so he was pretty sure he experienced it all. At one point, Silas was even certain that he had died and reincarnated into a different world, and he felt pretty sad about leaving his grandparents, who might be heartbroken upon learning about his demise. ¡®Well, I should be happy. Why am I questioning why I¡¯m still alive?¡¯ Silas mused. Maybe I got hit by some type of illusion beast. As soon as this thought popped into his mind, Silas looked around vigilantly, but he couldn¡¯t find any beast. If he had really been attacked with such an ability, he would have already died. Moreover, such beasts shouldn¡¯t even be present in the Iron Rank Gates. Silas suddenly thought of something and shouted, ¡®Status window!¡¯ ... Well, looks like it was really a dream. Silas shook his head, stood up, and looked into the pond, which he remembered as the start of all this drama. After thinking for a couple of seconds, Silas dipped his hand in the water¡ Nothing happened¡ Damn it. I don¡¯t want to think about it anymore, Silas grumbled, packed his spoils of war, and started to track back to the gate¡¯s entrance. When Silas entered the gate, he was even dreaming about getting rich in a single day, but looking at his storage ring, he wasn¡¯t sure if he could even obtain a couple of evolution points. As soon as Silas came out of the gate, he hired a cab to take him back home. After entering his house, Silas dropped all his luggage, jumped on his bed, and began to think deeply. After some time, he stopped thinking as his stomach started rumbling. Silas thought about the berries he ate, and his mouth salivated¡ Damn it... I can even remember the taste of the berries, so how could it all be an illusion? Silas decided to drop the matter for now. He quickly took a shower and went out of his house to the nearby street where a food truck was located. The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. A smile blossomed on his face, and his worries disappeared as the smell of food wafted into his nose. ¡°Hi, Uncle Jay, Aunty Laura,¡± Silas waved at them. The couple, who were preparing the food, were slightly surprised to see Silas. ¡°Haha, Silas, I remember you saying this morning that you¡¯d only return after a couple of days since you were entering the gate.¡± Hearing Uncle Jay¡¯s words, Silas coughed awkwardly, unsure of how to reply. Aunt Laura, seeing the situation, gave Uncle Jay a sidelong glance, which made him immediately shut up. Seeing this, Aunt Laura gently said, ¡°It¡¯s good that you came back without getting hurt.¡± Hearing Aunt Laura¡¯s words, Silas'' heart warmed up, and he gave her a bright smile. After moving from the village, Silas was really lucky to find Uncle Jay¡¯s and Aunt Laura¡¯s shop. Excluding his grandparents, these two were the next closest to Silas. He became pretty attached to the couple and their food truck. Even though Silas knows how to cook, he preferred eating here often and listening to their stories. Both Uncle Jay and Aunt Laura were unawakened people, so when they heard the news that Silas had awakened, they were both happy and worried at the same time. As people know, gates are pretty dangerous. Even though the gates have not caused significant damage to society, many people died when they were inside them. So they both cautioned him to be extra careful when venturing inside, as they knew that both of Silas¡¯ parents disappeared in a gate, their status unknown. ¡®Aunt Laura, no need to worry. Even though I came back early, I got what I went in for,¡¯ Silas said as he emptied his ring, and cleanly diced parts of the lizard rolled out. Aunt Laura and Uncle Jay were taken aback, as it was only his first day inside the gate, but Silas still managed to hunt a pretty big prey. Holding his nose high, Silas looked at Uncle Jay and said proudly, ¡°Uncle Jay, they said that Ironclad Lizards are one of the apex predators in the Iron Rank Gate, but they really didn¡¯t amount to much. It only took me a couple of moves.¡± Hearing the name of the Ironclad Lizard, they were both taken aback again. Even though they were unawakened, they knew quite a bit about the monsters in the lower-ranking gates, as they run a food business. The process of raising cattle and poultry had long been halted since the gates appeared, as people preferred monster meat over farm-grown meat. The monster meat contained more nutrients and was known to strengthen the bodies of the unawakened, even though they were not able to gain any evolution points. And meats such as Ironclad Lizard are considered a delicacy among middle-class people, as it is one of the best-tasting meats they can afford. Chapter 7: The status window The main reason Silas brought the monster meat outside the gate was to leave some for his consumption; he could sell the rest for some cash. If he had a huge stock of monster meat, Silas could only sell it to the specialized agencies that dealt with them. But with the current stock he had, he figured that he could sell it locally. Since Uncle Jay¡¯s shop also buys monster meats for their cooking, Silas thought he could sell them to him. ¡°Uncle Jay, are you interested in purchasing the monster meat?¡± Silas asked. Uncle Jay nodded with a smile. Since Ironclad Lizards are rare monsters, he could imagine that his business could be bustling for the next few days and that the dishes prepared with this meat would sell like hotcakes. Uncle Jay soon brought a weight scale and started to weigh them. ¡°A total of 230 pounds,¡± Uncle Jay announced, scribbling down the numbers on a small notepad. Silas nodded, seeing the total weight. He couldn¡¯t help but imagine the possibilities of what he could do with the money. The current market value of Ironclad Lizard meat was $30 per pound, so the total profit came to $6,900. A smile blossomed on Silas'' face hearing the amount. Based on the normal pay he received doing all sorts of work, it never exceeded $5,000 per month. Now he had easily earned more than that in a single day. His excitement was hard to contain, but he managed to keep a calm demeanor. ¡°Looks like I¡¯ll be eating well for a while,¡± he thought to himself, already planning his next hunt in his head. After eating some pastries from their shop, Silas returned back to his little apartment. Excluding the meat he sold to Uncle Jay¡¯s shop, he still had more than a dozen pounds left for his consumption. As he stood in his small kitchen, he carefully prepared to grill a huge chunk of the meat. The sound of the sizzling meat filled the room, accompanied by the aroma that made his stomach rumble even louder. Silas sprinkled some special spices he had bought from a local vendor to enhance the taste. He watched the meat closely, feeling a sense of anticipation. After achieving the status of an Evolver, this would be his first evolution point. Silas was a little bit excited; each and every evolution point would increase one¡¯s strength, and minuscule changes would also take place in one¡¯s body. Would he notice any immediate changes? He wondered if his muscles would become more defined or if his senses would sharpen. Stolen story; please report. ¡°Mmmm¡ Looks like it¡¯s done,¡± Silas murmured to himself. He placed the meat on his plate and switched on the TV as he prepared to eat. Just as he took his first bite, an advertisement flashed on the screen, showcasing a sleek, futuristic armor. "Introducing the latest innovation from Titan Forge Industries: the Aegis Mark VII¡ªan advanced combat suit designed exclusively for Voyagers and above. Featuring cutting-edge defensive capabilities and adaptive energy shields, this armor offers unparalleled protection in any environment. Available now for just $2 million. Equip yourself with the best, because in the gate, only the strongest survive." Silas watched the ad with mild interest, chewing thoughtfully as the announcer''s voice faded. The armor looks and sounds cool, but $2 million? Isn¡¯t the price a little bit too expensive? He imagined himself wearing the suit, striding confidently through a battlefield. Maybe one day, when he was stronger and richer. For now, it was just a distant dream. As he swallowed the meat, a screen popped up in front of his face, giving him a jump scare that made him tumble down from his seat. His plate clattered to the floor, and his heart pounded in his chest. ¡°What the heck?¡± he muttered, his eyes wide with alarm. Silas looked up as a progress bar started to fill up rapidly. 1%... 4%... 15%... 69%... 93%... 99%... 100%. As soon as the loading bar maxed out, a new screen appeared as a voice boomed in his head. ¡°Welcome back, host :)¡± ¡°Ironclad Lizard meat consumed, Evolution point = 1.¡± The sensation that followed was unlike anything he had felt before. A tingling warmth spread throughout his body, and he felt a slight surge of energy, almost like a minor adrenaline rush. Silas grinned seeing the status window as multiple thoughts flooded his mind, rethinking about the ¡®dream¡¯ Silas decided to explore the system as he was too busy trying to survive in that world. Chapter 8: Elemental heart Silas clenched his fists tightly, and he could feel that his strength had improved. He felt like crushing a potato with his bare hands would be quite easy. Looking at the system menu, he was deep in thought as many crazy ideas flooded his mind, and he had many questions regarding the monster form he took back then. As if the system could read his mind, a huge window popped up in front of him with a large description. Seeing that, Silas'' eyelid twitched as he understood that the system could definitely read his mind... So to summarize¡ let¡¯s say that the four-legged creature is also a character that he can now switch between, but when one is awake, the other will be asleep. To top it all off, there is a time difference between both worlds, i.e., 1:1000. That is, if Silas spent 1000 hours as that four-legged creature, only one hour would have passed in the real world. It¡¯s not limited to that, as the same applies the other way around. If Silas spends 1000 hours in the human world, only one hour would have passed there. (A/N: Going forth, I will use "monster world" and "human world" to differentiate between both worlds.) Silas breathed a sigh of relief as he realized he wouldn¡¯t be in a situation where he would be introduced to his own skeletal remains due to too much time passing while he was in another world. Let¡¯s think of it this way: if Silas spent a month in the human world and then went back to the monster world, more than 80 years would have passed. Maybe even his skeleton would have disappeared. Now, he no longer needed to be afraid. The main thing that affects human development is their limited lifespan, but based on what he learned, that shackle had loosened for him by a thousand times. And most importantly, both avatars¡¯ statuses would be synchronized. Knowing that both characters¡¯ stats could be synchronized, Silas became excited as he thought about all the benefits it could bring him. The first thing he thought about was the elemental berries he ate in the monster world. Even though he had multiple doubts at that time, Silas wasn¡¯t in a situation to think much about it. Now he asked the system about his doubts and got confirmation. If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. Regarding elemental affinity, Silas had a basic idea, but based on what he learned from the system and his conjecture, he knew he had stumbled upon a gold mine. Elemental affinity is not something people at his level should even come in contact with. The reason he hadn¡¯t received notifications from the system when he consumed berries of different elements in the monster world was that his body didn¡¯t have an elemental heart. Based on what he knew, people can get evolution points from meat and special fruits inside the gate, but elemental affinity? Definitely not. Some people do awaken an elemental heart when they enter the bronze rank gate and step into the voyager rank. But the chance of awakening an elemental heart is pretty low, and people who are unable to awaken an elemental heart can only concentrate on strengthening their bodies and learning skills related to them. They won¡¯t be able to learn any skills related to elements. Even those who do awaken an elemental heart can only learn skills related to the specific element they possess and can¡¯t learn skills from other elements. The number of elements they awaken is fixed, and people can¡¯t awaken new elements as they progress. But Silas¡¯ situation was completely different. Once he consumes enough fruits and obtains 100 points of elemental affinity, he will be able to awaken an elemental heart for that particular affinity. However, Silas knew that it wouldn¡¯t be easy, as the berries he consumed could only give him 0.001 points of elemental affinity, which, to be honest, was too little. But Silas wasn¡¯t the type to worry over such trivial stuff, as he knew that if he could awaken an elemental heart, his strength and status would take a leap. Unlike people who can only train their bodies, those who awaken an elemental heart can train both their bodies and magic. They can assimilate elements into their bodies, making them multiple times more powerful compared to their peers at the same level. Silas knew that the opportunity given to him could break the innate shackles of the talents he was born with. As of now, Silas had gained 0.9 evolution points from all the berries he consumed. Adding the 1 point he obtained from eating the meat of the Ironclad Lizard, he had reached 1.9 evolution points. He needed another 98.1 evolution points to attempt breaking the shackles of the iron rank. As for obtaining the elemental heart, he had only accumulated about 0.01 points for nine different elements, so there was a long way to go. Silas wasn¡¯t too worried about getting stuck in the iron rank gate for a long time because he decided to spend all his time on the other side as the four-legged creature until he accumulated 100 points for all the different elemental affinities. Chapter 9- Back to being a monster After learning about all these things, Silas was quite excited as he was planning to immediately go back to the monster world and strengthen himself, but he decided to wait until tomorrow. He was well aware that spending more time in the body of such a monster would make him lose some of his humanity and possibly even lose himself. So, he decided to take at least a day''s break before going back in. [Next day] Silas opened his eyes and looked around, breathing a sigh of relief after confirming that he was safe he tried standing up. BAM A low thud echoed through the cave as Silas¡¯s head bashed into the roof. He winced slightly and was quite shocked to discover that he had grown taller after waking up from sleep. He was quite sure he wasn¡¯t this tall when he went to sleep. After giving it some thought, he came to the conclusion that after his evolution points crossed a certain threshold there would be changes that would happen to his body. Since he had only acquired 0.9 points before, he did not notice any changes then, but after crossing that one point which he obtained from consuming the ironclad lizard meat, a qualitative change occurred in his body. After some rough calculations, he realised he had grown about 10% compared to before. Thinking about the huge monster he came across when he first entered this world Silas can understand why they were so huge.. After giving it some more thought, Silas realised he would be many times larger than the monsters he encountered. Silas was still unsure what species he belonged to, as there was no information about that in the status panel. Another thing he noticed was that, in addition to his body size growing larger, fundamental changes were happening deep within him. Perhaps he was still in his juvenile form, and more distinctions would appear only after he completed his growth phase. All he knew about himself was that he had four limbs and a huge tail, skin as dark as obsidian, canine teeth that were quite sharp, and claws that looked like they were forged from dark iron. Silas put all these thoughts aside for now, as he had things he needed to do. Even though the time difference between both worlds was 1:1000, he knew that maxing out all the affinities he already had would not be an easy task. Moreover, Silas did not plan to stop with only the nine elements he had already started accumulating. He knew opportunities like this were once in a lifetime, and if he missed this one, he didn¡¯t know where he would go and bash his head with all the regrets that he would definitely face in the future. Even though obtaining the corresponding skills for all the elements would be a monumental task, he needed to at least be qualified to choose when the time comes. With some difficulty, Silas managed to squeeze out of the entrance he had come through. Looking back at the narrow opening, Silas shook his head, knowing he should soon find a better, more permanent place. Looking around in the darkness, Silas realised his ability to see during the night was pretty good. Silas breathed a mouth full of fresh hair and looked ahead towards the forest. Suddenly... He started to shiver uncontrollably as his face became pale even forgetting to breath, Love what you''re reading? Discover and support the author on the platform they originally published on.He shrank his neck as he saw a huge centipede, more than three hundred metres long, skittering away. Its cold, red carapace gleamed in the moonlight, its legs taller than the huge trees, and its two long antennae swayed left and right as its mandibles glowed like red-hot steel. Each of its body segments was over a dozen metres in length, and its compound eyes looked like two black holes, absorbing all the surrounding light. Seeing the huge centipede, Silas held his breath as the aura of an apex predator hit him like a wave. But fortunately, the centipede didn¡¯t notice Silas as it rushed off somewhere. In the dark knight it moved like an assassin, its steps fast and precise, but so quiet that no sound could be heard. Silas¡¯s eyes continued to tremble violently as his back was drenched in cold sweat as his legs kept on shaking uncontrollably. Reality sank in for Silas as he now had a better understanding of how weak he was. Such a huge monster warded off his perception completely. If the centipede had set its sights on him, he wouldn¡¯t even know how he died. He still didn¡¯t know if dying here would lead to his death in the other world as well, and Silas was not willing to find out. After waiting for a few minutes and confirming there were no other dangers around, Silas exhaled. He felt like he would die of suffocation from the pressure caused by that huge centipede. He soon started to move cautiously through the forest and soon reached the undergrowth. Silas decided to push the matter of the giant centipede to the back of his mind, knowing that worrying about things he had no power to deal with would only slow his progress. As of now, the nine elements Silas had managed to gain one point of affinity in were some basic elements like fire, water, and wind, along with mixed elements like ice, sand, and wood. Moreover, he currently had one advanced element, lightning, which he obtained from the Storm Spark Berry. Silas started navigating through the forest, wanting to improve his strength as quickly as possible. After travelling for some time, Silas reached a narrow valley. He peered into the valley and spotted some berry plants similar to the ones he had come across previously. But unlike the berries he had seen before, these looked darker and gloomier, with black miasma spewing from the plants. Even the narrow valley was slowly filling with this black miasma. Looking at this type of fruit, Silas had some guesses. Based on his previous understanding, he inferred that these likely contained elements related to dark affinity. After confirming there was no danger in the valley, a smile formed on Silas¡¯s face. The one advantage he currently had in this place was his size, as the beasts around were all pretty huge and none could fit easily here. Small fruits like these were most likely not favoured by the beasts that lived here, as he had noticed the trees had no ripe fruits on them. Perhaps they had already been eaten by the monsters. After entering the valley, Silas breathed a sigh of relief as the black miasma didn¡¯t affect him. He was a little worried upon seeing the dark and gloomy place. Silas looked around, and after some calculations, a grin formed on his face as he figured there were at least a dozen such berry plants, and each plant was loaded with berries. "If I consume them all, I should be able to get a full point of elemental affinity," he thought. Silas stopped hesitating. He remembered he could only get 0.1 evolution points, as it was capped at ten berries of the same type per day. He hoped elemental affinity wasn¡¯t similarly limited. If it was also capped at ten berries, Silas didn¡¯t know how many centuries it would take to reach 100 points of affinity for all the elements. Praying in his heart, Silas started gobbling the berries, and familiar notifications started popping up one by one: "Nightshade berry consumed, Evolution points = 0.01" "Nightshade berry consumed, Evolution points = 0.01" "Nightshade berry consumed, Evolution points = 0.01" ... "Nightshade berry consumed, Evolution points = 0.01" Silas opened up his status panel as the notifications about the evolution points stopped popping up. Name: Silas Race: ??? Affinity: ??? Evolution Level: Novice Evolution Points: 2.0 Note: Nightshade Berry = 10/10 (Today''s limit) As soon as Silas¡¯s evolution points reached two, his body started to swell up again, and strength began to overflow through his body. Silas grew another 10%. He found that, compared to before, his teeth were sharper and his skin had become smoother and started to gleam like black steel. If he could continue growing at such a pace, Silas would be more than twice his original size when his evolution points reached 8. After confirming with the system that he was still able to receive elemental affinity points after the first ten berries, Silas breathed a sigh of relief. Chapter 10- Racial differences After looking around the narrow valley, Silas did not find any more nightshade berries. The miasma that had been lingering in the valley began to fade away little by little, as the berries were the source of the miasma, and now there were none left. The valley, once hidden under the miasma, came into full view. Dark vines crept along both sides of the valley walls, and many basin-sized holes dotted the surface. Seeing these holes made Silas feel uneasy, even though he didn¡¯t suffer from trypophobia. TIK TIK TIK As Silas studied the holes, he soon heard sounds coming from them. Alert, he immediately hid behind a huge rock. Moments later, huge black crabs began pouring out of the holes one by one. As soon as they emerged from their lairs, the crabs made a beeline for the nightshade berry plants. Upon finding the plants empty, their compound eyes narrowed sharply, and they began scanning the area vigilantly, trying to find the culprit. Loud, gunshot-like sounds echoed throughout the valley as the crabs angrily snapped their claws. Silas shrank back, knowing exactly who they were looking for. The sight of the crabs left him stunned, and he swallowed hard, briefly imagining how delicious a crab barbecue would taste. But when their numbers grew, surpassing a hundred, he quickly decided to adopt a vegan diet¡ªat least for now. He was confident he could handle a few of them head-on, but hundreds? No way. He wouldn¡¯t even know how many pieces he¡¯d be torn into by their pincers. Silas silently retreated, sneaking out of the valley as the sound of snapping pincers gradually faded behind him. In truth, these were the smallest monsters Silas had encountered in the forest so far, and he was itching to test his strength. But even a lion has to back down when facing a herd of buffalo, he reminded himself. He didn¡¯t want to get carried away by his newfound power, especially since he wasn¡¯t yet sure how dangerous the forest could be. For now, Silas decided to leave the crab valley alone. He was confident that, with a few more levels of strength, he could handle a bunch of them. But trying anything now would be suicide. Having already mapped out a rough outline of the terrain, Silas began to explore, looking for new fruits to consume. He wanted to increase all his affinities to 100, but to be honest, Silas wasn¡¯t even sure how many elements existed in total. All he knew were the nine core elements. Silas decided to put the matter aside for now¡ªthinking about it wouldn¡¯t accomplish anything. Time was not something he needed to worry about. With the advantage of a time ratio of 1:1000, Silas felt no pressure to rush his exploration or the acquisition of new affinities. So, the long grind began. On the second day, Silas discovered a huge, abandoned cave. He wasn¡¯t sure what kind of monster had once lived there, but he decided to make it his temporary abode¡ªat least until he outgrew it. Silas knew that if his growth rate continued, it wouldn¡¯t be long before he wouldn¡¯t fit inside any cave. It was a problem he would have to face sooner or later. To be honest, Silas knew of a solution, but at his current level, it wasn¡¯t achievable. So, he set that thought aside for now. Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. A month passed in the monster world. During this time, Silas hadn¡¯t returned to the human world, as he was afraid to leave his body unguarded in the monster world. He knew he¡¯d be safe in the human world, but the same couldn¡¯t be said for the monster world. In reality, less than an hour had passed, but Silas¡¯ growth had been astonishing, to say the least. Only one evolution point could be achieved per day. In all honesty, this wasn¡¯t much of a limitation, as it normally took multiple days to track down and hunt a monster successfully. Things got more complicated as people reached higher levels, as high-level monsters were nearly as intelligent as humans and many times stronger. A relatively unconfirmed theory circulating online suggested that different races fell under 14 different categories. It was unclear who came up with this or where the idea originated. The 14 categories were:
  1. Common (Normal)
  2. Uncommon
  3. Rare
  4. Epic
  5. Legendary
  6. Mythic
  7. Divine
  8. Ancient
  9. Eternal
  10. Transcendent
  11. Celestial
  12. Godlike
  13. Primal
  14. Exalted
People unsurprisingly concluded that humans belonged to the most basic category¡ªCommon. Even if species from the Common and Uncommon categories were at the same level, such as Voyager, their combat power differed greatly, like comparing an ant to an elephant. Even if both were level 100, the elephant would be much stronger. However, exceptions occasionally existed that could bridge this gap. Returning to Silas¡¯ journey: after spending a month in the monster world, Silas had reached 30 evolution points. In addition, he had discovered 37 different types of affinities, most of which had reached double digits. Silas was even lucky enough to stumble upon a couple of advanced elements, such as lava and crystal, near one of the dormant volcanoes. For example, his fire affinity, one of the core elements, had reached 18 points. He even managed to get his hands on lava fruits. These fruits grew on vines and looked like watermelons, but with red stripes instead of green. When opened, the inside resembled a basin of lava. After some hesitation, Silas gulped down the fruit. It was spicy hot, and he almost burned his tongue in the process, but the taste was incredibly delicious. The crystal affinity was a rarer find. Crystals didn¡¯t grow on plants. Silas found them near fragile rocks inside the dormant volcano, where crystal-like mushrooms grew, sapping the rocks of their nutrients and turning them into fragile mud. Silas was unsure whether to eat the mushrooms or not¡ªthey might have been poisonous. If he were still human, he would have refrained. But with his current body, there weren¡¯t many things he feared consuming. As he had guessed, as soon as he ate the crystals, the familiar notification popped up in front of him: "Radiant Shroom consumed. Evolution points = 0.01" Silas found over a hundred mushrooms, leading to a significant gain in crystal affinity points, and his daily evolution points quickly reached the cap. Silas also realized that the resources in this land were renewable. If he was lucky, the fruits would grow back from the same plants after a few days. However, most of the time, massive monsters carelessly crushed his precious affinity sources underfoot. As for his size, after growing 30 times in the past 30 days, Silas was now a literal giant. He measured a length of 42.75 meters and an approximate height of 25.30 meters. Chapter 11: Noctisnappers Silas, who had grown so much in the past 30 days, had already outgrown his old lair and currently made the dormant volcano his new home. He decided to move to a different zone soon as the number of affinities he could receive in this area was limited, and for the past four days, he hadn''t found any new affinities. But before that, Silas had a mission to complete. Even though Silas had grown quite large, he had not killed any monsters in this world. There were multiple things he had to consider before taking action. First, he wasn''t sure about the abilities of the monsters here. In the human world, almost all monsters had been analyzed, and suitable strategies had been devised. But in this world, Silas hadn''t even heard of any of these creatures. The second thing- he wasn''t sure about the territory of the apex predators. What if the smell of blood attracted a stronger creature? So, Silas had kept quiet, slowly growing his strength. Even though he might not be able to defeat the giant centipede head-on, he was confident enough that he could at least protect himself against it. The other thing that gave him more confidence was his race. Even now, he wasn¡¯t entirely sure what his race was called, but he had a guess. A couple of weeks ago, he had seen his reflection in a nearby lake. At first, Silas was stunned, as his reflection resembled a giant cat with fur dark as ink and two golden eyes that exuded majesty. Initially, he thought he looked like a black leopard or a panther, but after closer inspection, he noticed a slight trace of a mane growing around his neck, with strands of red fur scattered throughout. Seeing this, Silas became almost certain that he was some sort of lion¡ªmaybe a black lion? Back in the human world, lions were one of the apex predators before the opening of the gates. After the gates came into existence there were even speculations that predators might have evolved due to the introduction of the gates. However, news related to the wild had become highly classified, and people were rarely allowed outside the city gates . Even though no incidents came into light regarding any accidents that might have caused by the gates in the wild, there was a widespread agreement that their arrival had benefited wild beasts, as it had happened with humans. Having this slight guess about what he was boosted Silas¡¯s confidence. He was certain he was stronger than the insects and bugs that made up most of the creatures in this place. Once his evolution points reached 100, he was sure that his sheer size alone would allow him to dominate the entire realm. Unauthorized usage: this narrative is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. Silas pulled his thoughts back to the present. Now was not the time for speculation; it was the time to act. He galloped toward the narrow valley where the crabs lived. Even though he was massive, his steps were so quiet that not even the fallen leaves rustled. He blended into the night like a silent assassin, making his way to the crabs¡¯ lair. Silas decided to take action today¡ªif he grew any more, he wouldn¡¯t even be able to fit into the valley and would be left as a spectator. When Silas arrived at the familiar valley, he didn''t rush in immediately. He hid outside and peered into the miasma-filled gorge. As he looked in, one of the crabs hiding behind the vines noticed him. Its eyes turned red with unseen ferocity, as if it had spotted the beast that had stolen its mate. Silas, however, was too focused on the holes to notice. He was waiting for the perfect moment to launch a surprise attack. The reason for the crab¡¯s anger could be found if we rewound time a little. Silas who stole the night shade berries did not stop after his first time. Every five days, he returned to the spot to harvest more berries as if he had planted and watered them himself. The last time he visited, he had almost been caught, but unfortunately the crabs only caught a glimpse of his tail swaying as he escaped. Since then, the crabs became extremely alert, with one particular crab standing guard beneath the vines, in rain and storm¡ even under the scorching sun and biting cold¡., waiting for the thief to show up again. Seeing Silas hiding behind a large group of rocks the crab didn¡¯t let its anger cloud its judgment. It silently slid down a hole and scuttled inside the lair. Inside the Crab Lair, a crab stood on a high platform, waving its claws emotionally as if giving a grand speech. The crabs below it nodded silently, their claws clenched tightly as they raised them in the air. Scenes of past grievances played through their minds as their eyes turned emotional. Meanwhile, Silas, completely unaware of the crabs¡¯ uprising, stood behind a tree, licking his lips as he daydreamed about the crab dishes he could make. He counted them off on his paws¡ªcrab fry, crab pizza, crab lollipop, crab roast, crab curry... crab soup. He quickly realized that his fingers weren¡¯t enough to count them all and swallowed hard, trying to stop him from salivating. But unbeknownst to him, the crabs had already started their move. Hundreds of them marched like a silent battalion of assassins, creeping towards Silas in the shadows. This time, there were no loud snapping of claws. Determination could be seen in the crab¡¯s eyes as they had suffered enough from having their food supply raided, and now they were determined to put an end to it. Their race, the Noctisnappers, only consumed fruits and had been surviving on nightshade berries, which were their favorite. But after Silas''s thefts, they had depleted most of their reserves. If this continued, they wouldn''t survive the next month, thinking about their families and friends they steeled their hearts. They were not a group of war mongrels who loved fighting, they were a peace loving community who had been good with their neighbors for countless generations and they never imagined that there would be a day where they need to go to war to secure their food. But there is no going back now¡. Chapter 12: First kill - I Silas, who was hiding behind the huge pile of rocks, had no idea about the upcoming danger. The crabs, well-versed in the terrain, had many escape routes dug around the valley, and coincidentally, there was one nearby where Silas was hiding. The crabs slowly made their way to Silas'' hiding spot. Each of these crabs was only half a meter to a meter in size, extremely small compared to Silas, but such a size difference didn¡¯t make them hesitate. The crabs slowly started to emerge from a hole behind Silas. But unaware of the movements behind him, SIlas kept his eyes focused on the narrow valley ahead. Seeing how focused Silas was the crabs'' eyes narrowed slightly as they swiftly jumped onto Silas'' swaying tail. Swoosh swoosh swoosh Clank clank clank Loud snapping sounds echoed throught the valley as they clung to the fur on Silas'' tail. Startled, Silas jumped more than ten meters high, his soul almost leaving his body. He felt as if his tail had been caught by a meat grinder. While still in the air, Silas looked back at his tail only to see hundreds of little crabs holding onto it tightly. Acting on instinct, Silas swung his tail left and right, swiftly flinging most of the crabs in all directions. Boom boom With resounding thuds, many crabs broke branches in the trees and fell heavily, some even creating basin-sized pits in the ground as dust and debris flew everywhere, blurring one¡¯s vision. The crabs that had been violently tossed stood up immediately, as if nothing had happened, though they were equally stunned inside. They hadn¡¯t expected a simple tail swing to cause such massive damage. The once peaceful forest now looked as though it had been bombarded by dozens of artillery shells, resembling a battlefield. This book''s true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience. Silas was equally stunned by his own power, as he had never tested his strength before. With newfound confidence, Silas now leaped into the midst of the crabs like a wolf among sheep, swiping his claws left and right, tossing the crabs everywhere. Broken claws and legs flew as loud sounds echoed, and the crabs were sent flying. But something shocked Silas. Despite the damage they had suffered, their claws broken and legs shattered, but still alive and kicking. The crabs, seeing their brethren suffer such massive damage, had their eyes turn red with fury. Even if none of them had died, the battle had just started, and the foe was unexpectedly too strong for them to handle. If this continued, there was a possibility that none of them would survive. Thinking of this, their eyes grew more resolute. Soon, a black miasma-like substance began to flow from the bodies of the remaining crabs. Silas, seeing this, became vigilant, making sure not to inhale the miasma, afraid it might be poisonous. The crabs, now enveloped in the dark miasma, struggled to crawl out of the deep pits, their eyes glowing a ferocious red. Silas, sensing the impending danger, became hundred percent alert. He felt the crabs were preparing for a last desperate struggle and expected a suicide attack. He didn¡¯t dare lower his guard. Soon, the miasma covered a radius of two to three hundred meters and continued growing rapidly, completely blocking Silas¡¯ vision. With his sight hindered, Silas sharpened his hearing, listening for even the slightest movement, ready to evade any surprise attacks. But unbeknownst to him, a different scenario was unfolding under the cover of the miasma. The crabs'' eyes, which had turned red, returned to normal as they began to move slowly, picking up their wounded comrades from the pits. Those who were unable to move were carefully carried away. The crabs, without making a sound, began crawling back into the hole they had emerged from, one by one, while Silas remained on high alert, waiting for the surprise attack. Soon, there were no crabs left, only broken claws and limbs scattered across the ground, giving off an air of dread. After a few minutes, the miasma began to fade, but the surprise attack Silas had been expecting never came. Silas, who had held his nerves tightly all this time, looked around and slowly opened his mouth in shock as he realized he had been tricked by these little pests. The miasma and red eyes had all been a facade. "Is this the surprise attack I was expecting?" Silas thought, feeling a little awkward. But Silas did not feel as though he had overreacted and let them escape. He knew that being careless in such situations could lead to him ascending to heaven without even knowing who took his ticket. Somewhere else¡ A massive creature curled up in the branches of a giant tree slowly opened its eyes. It glanced in a certain direction, its gaze sharpening as thoughts quietly passed through its mind. Chapter 13: First Kill - II Silas, who was unaware that his actions had awakened a terrifying foe, was too keen on hunting down the fleeing crabs. Silas, who knew that the crabs might be trying to move to the narrow valley, immediately started to make his way there. Inside the hole, the crabs which were moving were in a miserable state as most of them had lost their claws and limbs, and the rest were struggling to carry them, their expressions grim. They knew that their enemy would be on their tail now since the sneak attack had failed miserably, unable to cause much damage. This was an oversight from them as they had underestimated how strong their enemy was. Even though they felt that they had prepared enough, they still could not put any dents through that beast''s defence. To be honest, it can''t be said as their fault. These noctisnappers are known to be extremely strong, even capable of pinching monsters much stronger than them to deaths. and have more advantages with their massive numbers as well. Their shells, strong as iron plates, provide them with incredible defense, and their claws capable of crushing stones into powder. These are some of the reasons why their neighbors dare not mess with them easily. The narrow valley, which Silas used to harvest berries, became too narrow for him now as he had grown too big to comfortably fit in, restricting his movements. But Silas was not ready to give up as he began to scratch the walls with his claws, and the whole valley started to tremble, and rocks fell down. The crabs, which were rushing towards their lair, were shocked upon hearing the movement and quickened their pace. Like a mantis preying on a cicada, unaware that the magpie is right behind, Silas, who was trying to prey on the noctisnappers, did not know a monster was rushing towards him. Silas had already dug the valley walls a few meters deep, expanding the size of the valley, and now had more space to move around. Suddenly.... Silas felt a chill down his spine as his back was drenched in cold sweat. Silas turned his head slowly and saw a pair of eyes staring at him with interest. Silas shrank his neck back as it was that giant centipede which he had seen previously. Now being closer, he felt that he was still too small compared to this giant, and his newfound confidence started to sway slightly. But all of a sudden, Silas heard a female voice in his ears, "Kid, do you want a beating, trying to destroy my territory?" Silas, who heard the voice, was shocked as he turned around, trying to find from where the voice was coming. Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. Silas, who was trying to figure out where the voice was coming from, suddenly heard many footsteps behind him approaching quickly. Soon, hundreds of crabs flowed out from the holes in the wall, surrounding both Silas and the centipede. Among them a crab which looked much older had barely any strength to move came outside of the crowd, looking at Silas as if he had killed its family. It then turned towards the giant centipede, gesturing with its claws as if saying something. It pointed at Silas with its claws. As it continued to speak, its actions grew faster and faster as if its blood pressure was increasing. After a couple of minutes, the old crab breathed out heavily as if it had vented its pent-up emotions and looked at Silas with lingering resentment. Silas stood there awkwardly, unsure of what he had gotten himself into. "Ummm Ummm..." The centipede, which was listening to the crab, nodded its head slowly and gave Silas a sidelong glance. As if this was not enough, the crabs that had been brutally attacked by Silas reached their destination slowly, with their comrades who had broken limbs and claws being carried. As soon as the elder crab saw this scene, his eyes became bloodshot as he was ready to jump on this beast, even if he had to give up his life, but he was held back by the rest of the crabs. The little crabs eyes turned moist seeing such a scene. The centipede gave Silas a sharp glare, which made Silas shrink back. The leader of the attacking battalion came forward, and the scene replayed again, but there was more helplessness in its eyes rather than the anger shown by the elder crab. Facing Silas head-on, it knew the difference and was not sure if their impulsive attack might cause their tribe some disasters in the future. The centipede, after a couple of seconds thinking hard, could not recall any tribes similar to Silas''s appearance in its memories. Hearing the crabs'' complaints one by one, the centipede gave Silas a glare. Silas, trying to ease the situation, awkwardly tried to smile, showing his teeth like a human. Seeing this, the centipede and even the crabs gave him a weird look, as the smile did not look like a smile at all. After contemplating for some time, the centipede looked at Silas. Silas gulped, seeing the centipede''s eyes staring him down. "Little guy, bring me to your tribes guardian. I want to meet him" the centipede stated. Looking at Silas, the centipede easily saw through him, knowing how young he was. The centipede wanted to meet his tribe''s guardian to reprimand him about how they unleashed such a pest into its territory and to demand compensation as well. Silas, who obviously spawned out of nowhere, did not know where his tribe''s guardian was. Seeing how he was unable to answer her question, the centipede sighed as she mumbled, "Obviously a stray." Silas''s mouth twitched a little as he wanted to refute but stayed quiet. "Okay, here''s the deal. I could turn a blind eye to all the things that happened if you can provide appropriate compensation to the noctisnapper tribe and for wasting my time. I won¡¯t ask for much¡ª50 rank 1 nether stones for the crabs and 50 for me, the punishment is light this time because none of the noctisnappers tribe members died and their broken limbs and claws can be regrown after some recuperation" Hearing this, all the crabs'' eyes brightened. Even if they could trade all their produce, they wouldn''t be able to gather that much in a decade, and with so much nether stones they could enhance their strength significantly. But Silas, who heard about the nether stones, was even more confused as he did not know what they were. Should I be left to dig in an underground mine to get this stone? Silas¡¯s face dropped as he thought about how a majestic and prideful lion would be left to grovel in the cave mining. The events happening today were beyond his understanding. All this while, he had thought these were mere beasts without much intelligence, which had led him to act unscrupulously. It was a good thing there were no other beasts nearby the other fruits that he had consumed; otherwise, he did not know what they would do to him. Seeing the obvious confusion, the centipede could guess what was going through his head. Chapter 14-first Kill- III Seeing Silas¡¯s confused expression and his lack of knowledge, the centipede took it upon herself to explain. ¡°From time immemorial, this world has been connected to the Nether World, a world filled with nether monsters who are bloodthirsty by nature. They have been trying to occupy this world without success for a long time. This world¡¯s barrier is too strong, rendering them helpless, and the only way they found to infiltrate this world was through dungeons or small portals. Seeing the threat posed by these nether monsters, the strongest people of that time came together to create a system called the Merit System, which operates based on the world¡¯s law¡ªautonomous and almost omnipotent. People can obtain merit points for killing nether monsters, and to prevent infighting and damaging the overall strength, a system similar to the Merit System was created that uses karma points. Karma points are awarded based on the impact of crimes, such as killing people from the same world. Both systems are overseen by the will of the world, preventing any falsehood. As the centipede said this, she paused and looked at Silas, giving him time to let her words sink in. Silas understood that the only reason he was still alive was because they belonged to the same faction, and the centipede had decided to show him mercy as he had not killed anyone from the same faction yet. On the other hand, the Noctisnappers had the right to retaliate, as he had pushed them to the brink of extinction by stealing their only food source. They absolutely had every right to retaliate against him. Silas nodded slowly, thankful for his cautious personality; otherwise, his head would have been targeted by a bounty hunter sooner or later if his actions had continued. Now, back to the topic. Dungeon breaks usually happen when a dungeon is filled to the brim, overloading it and leading to its collapse. What prevents the dungeon from overloading in a short amount of time and creating an opening for the monsters to pour in is the narrow passage that connects both worlds. These gaps do not allow the nether monsters to squeeze in large numbers, so it takes many years for a dungeon to fill up, leading to its collapse. If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it''s taken without permission from the author. Report it. Due to this, not many monster breaks occur, and those that do are natural disasters, turning the entire region into a dead zone. "The bodies of nether monsters contain nether stones," the centipede explained. "Some of them also drop soul weapons, and very rarely, skill books." This was the first time Silas had heard the term ¡°nether stones.¡± He was unsure if nether monsters existed in the human world, and as for soul weapons, he didn¡¯t have much understanding either. The only thing he knew was that soul weapons were rare and there was almost no supply in the human world, as the drop rates for them in the gates were pitifully low. But upon hearing the term "skill book," Silas¡¯s eyes lit up. He was very familiar with that name. Skill books were one of the rarest, most sought-after commodities in the human world, always in short supply. Silas knew that acquiring many skill books could make a huge difference in his future journey, especially since he had the ambitious plan of acquiring all the elements. Without the corresponding skill books for those elements, all his elemental affinities would become practically useless. And buying skill books was difficult. Even though there was a supply of them, it was rare to obtain the specific skills he needed, and the prices were extremely high. Some skill books couldn¡¯t be bought with money alone and required special channels and equivalent exchanges. However, there were still certain doubts in Silas¡¯s mind. He wasn¡¯t sure if the skills he obtained in this world could be used in the human world as well. If not, it would be a major disappointment. After pondering for a while, Silas shook his head. These matters were currently too far away from him, and thinking about them would only waste his time. He could test it out once he obtained a skill book. Seeing the pondering expression on Silas¡¯s face, the centipede said, "It¡¯s better to take you there and let you experience it yourself rather than let your thoughts wander wildly. I¡¯ll take you to a low-tier dungeon¡ªit shouldn¡¯t pose any challenge for you with your current strength." Hearing the centipede¡¯s words, Silas¡¯s eyes brightened. A place where he could unleash his strength without fear of retaliation¡ªan ideal place for him to test his abilities. The centipede, which was many times larger than Silas, used a couple of its legs to lift him by the neck like a cub. Silas was momentarily stunned and wanted to escape from its grasp, feeling defenseless, but he gave up, knowing it would be futile. Meanwhile, the crabs that had previously been beaten by Silas looked at the centipede with awe, marveling at how easily the creature that had given them so much trouble was now being handled. Their eyes shone like gems, and some of the younger crabs even decided to venture into dungeons to grow stronger and bigger like the centipede. Silas, witnessing this scene, was speechless. Black lines formed on his forehead as he felt his pride slipping away. Chapter 15- First kill - IV Looking around, Silas found that the terrain around him had slowly started to change. The once vibrant landscape, filled with trees, was now gone, and he could see many dead trees around him¡ªtheir trunks rotten and dark in color, devoid of any life. ¡°Even though the dungeons provide Nether stones and stuff like skill books, I sometimes hope these Nether dungeons don¡¯t exist. Even when the dungeon is not yet breached, they still leak Nether energy, which contaminates the land and kills life. You can just imagine what would happen if a gate break occurs. This one can be considered practically a new one. I found it only a week ago¡ but within that week, it was able to alter the landscape to such an extent¡ if left uncleared, it only gets worse.¡± Silas'' eyes turned gloomy as he looked around. All he could be thankful for was that gates in his world did not act this way; otherwise, he couldn¡¯t imagine the devastation it would cause. Silas looked at the centipede and asked, ¡°Miss, can you not clear it as soon as it pops out? Why did you wait until now?¡± Looking at the changes it had caused, Silas couldn¡¯t help but ask the centipede about it. The centipede shook her head, saying, ¡°I too wish I could, but these dungeons have entry restrictions preventing someone like me from entering and clearing them in one fell swoop. These are low-ranking dungeons where only people below the Voyager level can enter.¡± ¡°Moreover, we use this as a training base. Even if people fail to clear this dungeon and a dungeon break happens, it doesn¡¯t matter, as we can just wipe out the whole area immediately. Dungeon breaks can be considered bad, but once the dungeon break is cleared, the resources in that area will be significantly increased. It can be considered like a volcano¡ª when it explodes, it destroys everything around it, but once it settles down and after many years, the land becomes much more fertile.¡± ¡°Similarly once that dungeon is cleared the world purifies the nether energy and makes it it¡¯s own, ¡± ¡°For low and mid-level dungeons, we¡¯re not bothered much, as the aftermath is easy to deal with. But the same can¡¯t be said for high-level dungeons. If a high-level dungeon break occurs, we basically have to give up that region.¡± As they were communicating, they soon reached a vortex. The vortex looked eerie, and Silas could even see wisps of dark smoke exiting it and dissipating into the atmosphere. ¡°Kid, be ready. Even though this dungeon shouldn¡¯t pose a problem to you, things are never obsolete. There¡¯s always a chance of one falling in unexpected places.¡± Silas, who didn¡¯t have much experience hunting monsters in either world, was extra cautious. He decided to give his 120%, even if he was asked to kill a slug. Silas looked around the vortex, and even the soil had turned pitch black here due to the corrosion of Nether energy. The vortex, a mixture of both blue and black, stood there like a black hole. Silas turned back to the centipede and gave her a slight nod before jumping in.If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it. The centipede, seeing Silas jump in, muttered to herself, ¡°I should go and check if I could find any relevant information regarding this guy.¡± After standing there for a while in deep thought, she turned around and left. According to her calculations, clearing the dungeon was going to take some days, and she couldn¡¯t wait that long without doing anything since she had other matters that required her attention. She could just ask one of her underlings to bring him to her once he cleared the dungeon. Silas, who had jumped inside the dungeon, did not see the gloomy and dark atmosphere he had envisioned. Instead, he found himself in the middle of a lush green forest, and the only thing that made him uncomfortable was the Nether energy trying to seep through him. However, Silas felt that this couldn¡¯t harm him. He figured out that the change in atmosphere outside the dungeon was mainly caused by the more potent Nether energy, which led to such a desolate scene. Silas, who had just entered the dungeon, looked around both curious and cautious. This dungeon looked more like a world than a dungeon. He could even see a sun hanging above him, and he could smell the unique scent of the forest. He had expected to enter a dark and gloomy place, but this place felt more comfortable to him. The only thing that made him uncomfortable was the Nether energy trying to contaminate him. After looking around for a while, Silas started to navigate through the forest vigilantly. As he was making his way through, Silas suddenly felt something stick to his face. Using his paw, he swiped in front of him¡ ¡°Is this a spider web?¡± He became cautious. The spider silk was almost invisible to his eye. Even though he easily tore it to pieces he felt that if he were weaker, he might have gotten stuck in this, as it seemed quite sturdy as well. As he thought of something, Silas suddenly looked up and could only curse his bad luck. He saw more than a dozen spiders staring at him from their nest, ready to pounce. These spiders were quite big¡ª about two to three meters in length¡ª but compared to himself, they were still small. Silas felt a little uncomfortable seeing them, as they weren¡¯t his favorite type of pest to deal with. Shruu shruu shruu. As if given a signal, the spiders all jumped down from the nest and landed surrounding him. Silas decided to be careful and not get bitten by them, as he had an inkling that these spiders might be venomous, and he wasn¡¯t willing to test that. One of the spiders suddenly shot its web toward him. Seeing this, Silas became speechless. ¡°Damn bugs, are they trying to turn me into a mummy while I¡¯m alive?¡± Silas immediately jumped from that place to a nearby tree trunk. As if he were a trained acrobat, he used one of his legs to bounce from that tree trunk to the next and swiftly pounced on the spider that had shot its web toward him. Silas used his front paw to smash the spider to the ground. Splash. The spider, which was hit, turned into a meat paste without any resistance. Silas, feeling grossed out, rubbed his paw on the ground, trying to get rid of the remains of the spider from his paws. As soon as the spider was crushed, a notification popped up in front of him, but Silas ignored it and bounced sideways as the rest of the spiders launched their webs at him, trying to entangle him. Silas swiftly bounced back and forth, smashing his paws as only the sound of splattering echoed through the forest. After a dozen seconds, a black lion could be seen rubbing its paws on the tree trunk while his face showed a look of disgust. Around him, more than a dozen meat patties could be seen. Chapter 16- Universal points After feeling that his paws were clean, Silas grumbled, new doubts creeping into his mind. Had he developed a phobia of spiders? Shaking off the thought, he opened the notification panel. He had been too busy earlier to review its contents. "Killed iron-ranked Abyss Weaver, gained 1 universal point." "Unlocking Universal Contribution System." ¡ "Killed iron-ranked Abyss Weaver, gained 1 universal point." "Killed iron-ranked Abyss Weaver, gained 1 universal point." ¡ Silas scrolled through the list of notifications. When he saw the words Universal Contribution System, his eyes lit up. Anything that awarded points was definitely something good. To his surprise, the system didn¡¯t open in a new window as he had expected. Instead, it integrated seamlessly into the existing system panel. Silas frowned slightly. He still wasn¡¯t entirely clear about this system panel. Initially, he had thought it was unique to him, but the more he examined it, the more it resembled a status panel from a game. Since he had obtained the system panel after arriving in this world, it might be something everyone here had access to. "I should clear this up when I get back," Silas muttered. "Unless I end up looking like an idiot who thought he was special¡ Wait!" A sudden thought struck him, making his fur bristle. He was special¡ªin a sense¡ªbecause of his two bodies. That secret needed to stay hidden. If anyone discovered it, he might end up dissected in some lab. Shaking the grim idea away, Silas focused on the Contribution Panel System. It featured three main tabs: Contribution Shop, Inventory, and Quests. However, only the shop icon was active; the others were dull, signifying they weren¡¯t accessible yet. Curious, Silas clicked on the Inventory tab but was greeted with a prompt: "13/100 Contribution Points. Unlock at 100 points." "Looks like I can unlock the inventory today," he muttered, excitement bubbling up. If the inventory worked like system space, it would be incredibly convenient. He wouldn¡¯t need physical storage anymore. A thought struck him: Could the inventory work in the human world too? If so, it would save him tons of money on storage devices and allow him to hide things easily. As images of criminal cartels smuggling goods flashed through his mind, Silas shook his head violently. The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement."Dammit! I¡¯m a law-abiding citizen. Why would I even think about stuff like that?" Maybe this Nether Energy was messing with him. Yeah, that had to be it. Silas nodded to himself, clearing his thoughts. Turning back to the system panel, he opened the Contribution Shop. The first thing that caught his eye was a floating fairy with a wand. Beneath it was a label: "Personal Assistant (Limited to one purchase)" Silas¡¯s eyes gleamed. The cost was only 1,000 Contribution Points. Motivation surged through him. This will be my first priority! he decided. He had so much to learn, and having a personal assistant would save him the hassle of asking outsiders and potentially causing problems. Yeah, it¡¯s purely for practical reasons¡ªnot because the fairy looks cute or anything. With renewed determination, Silas closed the system panel and bounded onto the top of a large tree. His next goal was to get a good grasp of the terrain. If he were in the human world, he could¡¯ve already found tutorial videos and strategy guides online. With a sigh, he settled for the old-fashioned method. Silas started to slowly navigate through the forest looking around cautiously. Crack crack Suddenly, Silas felt the ground give way beneath him. He lost his balance and plummeted into a large pit. As he fell, his eyes narrowed at what awaited him below. "Dammit! Who even builds such a devious trap?" The pit was lined with roots protruding like spears. Nearby, some spiders were seen coating the spikes with their saliva, making them even more lethal. Reacting quickly, Silas used his claws to grip the side of the pit, stopping his fall. It all happened in the blink of an eye. What had seemed like normal forest ground, covered with leaves, turned out to be a cleverly designed trap. The spiders had used their webs to create a thin curtain, concealing the hole beneath. With powerful leg muscles, Silas propelled himself out of the pit just in time. Escaping the danger, Silas didn¡¯t rest. He tore a massive branch from a nearby tree, gripping it with his tail, and hurled it at one of the spiders. Shua! The spider tried to dodge but was a tad too slow. The branch pierced its head, nailing it to the ground. "Killed iron-ranked Subterranean Widow, gained 1 universal point." Silas spotted more spiders crawling out of the ground. His eyes turned fierce as he prepared to unleash a massacre. These spiders needed to learn that they¡¯d messed with the wrong beast. But then, his expression shifted as hundreds¡ªno, thousands¡ªof spiders emerged from the pit. His heart sank. If he got entangled with so many, even his bones might not remain. These spiders, about a meter in diameter, had brown carapaces and sharp front legs evolved for digging. They scurried up, their many eyes glinting with malice. The spiders paused momentarily, their excitement dampened when they saw one of their comrades nailed to the ground. Its headless body twitched violently. Their eyes turned bloodshot as they surged forward in a frenzy. Silas didn¡¯t hesitate. Dropping the branch he held, he turned tail and bolted. "This isn¡¯t running away," he muttered. "It¡¯s a strategic retreat!" Without skills to handle such venomous mobs, his only weapon was his body¡ªand he wasn¡¯t sure how resistant he was to poison. After a solid minute of running, Silas ensured none of the spiders had kept up with his speed. He sighed in relief. "I need to find a good skill soon," he muttered. "I can¡¯t keep running from these weak mobs." Chapter 17: Skill book Silas, who had just escaped from the Subterranean Widow, decided to find a suitable skill first. He felt that he was at a major disadvantage as he had to rely solely on his physical body. As Silas was contemplating his next move, his eyes contracted sharply as he could feel the ground beneath him begin to tremble. Silas looked around and soon found the source. A few hundred meters ahead of him, he saw a large silhouette moving toward him. Eight large legs, like pillars, carried a huge fortress that was obsidian in color. Looking closer, Silas realized it wasn¡¯t a fortress but a large spider built like a tank. Silas¡¯s eyes gleamed sharply. Rather than feeling afraid, Silas became excited. His eyes grew fierce. The things he had encountered so far were all pests, but this one was definitely something that could test his strength. Without hesitation, Silas using his innate trait and enlarged himself a couple dozen times and rushed toward the giant spider like lightning. Even with such a large body, Silas was swift and agile. Seeing something approach, the giant spider became vigilant. In no time, it used its front leg like a spear, stabbing toward Silas, who was swiftly closing the distance. Seeing the spear-like leg approaching him, Silas leapt high into the air and bounced over the spider completely, dodging it. Now standing behind the spider, Silas leapt forward with the help of his powerful legs and used his front paw to smash the spider. Boom! A resounding boom echoed through the forest as the spider, like a huge cannonball, was shot backward, a paw print appearing on its steel-like carapace. The spider, still in mid-air, performed a full 360-degree rotation and landed on the ground using its legs. "Can you even do that?" Silas was quite speechless. He had expected the spider to take huge fall damage, but this thing had simply performed an acrobatic stunt, landing gracefully. Suddenly, green light emitted from the spider, and the claw mark that had been left on its shell disappeared visibly. Silas¡¯s eyes widened as he muttered, "A spider priest?" For all the skills he had expected the spider to possess, he didn¡¯t expect one that looked like a battle fortress to have a healing ability. "Damn it, how am I supposed to take down a tank swiftly that can heal itself?" But soon, Silas threw those thoughts away as the earth began to tremble once again. The spider, which had just healed itself, came charging back at Silas, using its front legs like spears. Silas dodged left and right, narrowly avoiding the incoming strikes. But the spider did not relent, continuing to rush toward him, stabbing with both its front legs, creating sounds like air being pierced. This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there. Silas dodged again, and then, in a sudden move, slapped one of the incoming spider legs aside with his paw and bit down on the other leg that was approaching. The spider, caught off guard, tried to pull its leg back, but it was too late. Silas bit down fiercely, and with a powerful death roll, he tore the spider¡¯s front leg apart. The spider screamed, but green liquid flowed like a waterfall from the wound. The spider tried to heal itself, its body glowing green. Puchik! But before it could fully recover, the spider collapsed to the ground, a massive black leg piercing straight through its head. Silas let out a sigh of relief. As soon as he had grabbed the spider¡¯s leg, he had realized it was many times tougher than iron. If he had tried his previous strategy of hurling a tree, he was certain it wouldn¡¯t have left a scratch. Even his claws had only left some faint marks. A notification popped up: ¡°Killed Bronze-ranked Giant Arachnite, gained 10 universal points.¡± At the same time the notification appeared, the giant spider, which lay motionless on the ground, began to glow with green light. Slowly, green particles floated from its body and drifted upward. They soon condensed into a book. The book¡¯s cover shimmered with green particles, and beneath them, a giant tree appeared to embrace the world in its warm glow. Seeing this, Silas¡¯s eyes blazed with excitement, his breath quickening. ¡°A skill book...¡± he murmured. Skill books were one of the rarest commodities in the human world. Healers were one of the most elusive and revered classes, considered divine. High-level healers could even regenerate limbs, a sacred profession honored by mortals, known to cure all ailments. Silas stepped forward and grabbed the skill book, gently opening it with one of his claws. Inside, he found an unfamiliar language written on the pages. Silas wasn¡¯t surprised. He knew humans couldn¡¯t read it, but when the book was placed on the forehead, it would dissolve into the person, instantly granting them the ability to learn the skill. He placed the book on his forehead, and a warm current swept through him. Silas waited, but after a moment, nothing happened. He opened his eyes and stared blankly at the notification screen that appeared before him. ¡°Failed to learn the skill Healer. Unable to find Earth Elemental Heart.¡± A black line formed on his forehead as he suddenly remembered. To learn the skill, he needed the corresponding Elemental Heart. In his excitement, he had completely forgotten about it. He had been eager to acquire powerful skills to easily wipe out the dungeon. ¡°Damn it,¡± Silas banged his head on the spider''s carapace. The green particles around him floated upward, reverting back into a book that fell gently before him. Silas shook his head. With a long sigh, he looked at the spider''s lifeless body. Using his claws, he slowly began to tear open the spider¡¯s carapace. The spider¡¯s armor was much easier to slice through than he had expected, and Silas dismembered it with ease. Chapter 18: Shadow terror Silas, who had sliced open the spider''s carapace, took a large bite out of it. This was his first time trying raw meat. If he had still been in his human form, he wouldn¡¯t have dared, but now, in his current state, it felt okay. He took a bite, and to his surprise, the flesh tasted pretty good¡ªbetter than even the Wagyu beef he¡¯d once tried. As he swallowed, Silas felt the nether energy within the meat being purified when it reached his stomach. A soothing energy began to spread slowly throughout his body. ¡°Consumed flesh of Giant Arachnite = 0 Evolution Points obtained.¡± ¡°Consumed flesh of Giant Arachnite = 0 Evolution Points obtained.¡± ... ¡°Consumed flesh of Giant Arachnite = 0 Evolution Points obtained.¡± Warm current flowed through Silas''s body as the Spiders meat nourished his body and filled the spiritual energy which he had recently consumed, Even though he stopped receiving evolution points Silas did not mind, as his size grew his appetite grew along with him and in no time, all the meat of the giant spider disappeared leaving only the carapace and the seven remaining legs. Looking at the legs, an idea struck him. The legs were sturdy and could easily serve as spears. With these, he could attack enemies from afar, giving them no chance to retaliate. Collecting the eight legs, Silas tore a thick vine and tied the spears to his back. Though he lacked hands for delicate tasks, his tail served as an excellent substitute¡ªflexible and precise. Feeling proud of his ingenuity, Silas imagined himself hurling the spears with deadly precision using his tail. With his preparations complete, Silas moved forward, searching for his next victim. He was cautious enough to avoid the direction of the subterranean willows¡ªthose pests weren¡¯t worth the trouble. Despite his massive size¡ª47 meters long and nearly 28 meters tall¡ªhe didn¡¯t feel out of place, based on his understanding and the monsters that he recently faced silas decided that this size will be sufficient enough to deal with all the troubles and chose not to shrink size, The colossal trees around him made his enormous body feel perfectly proportioned to his surroundings.Support the author by searching for the original publication of this novel. As night fell, Silas hesitated but decided to forego sleep. He couldn¡¯t find a safe resting spot, and nighttime was when spiders were most active. Already, he¡¯d encountered more than a dozen new species. Silas was rather pleased. Encountering more species meant he could hunt more efficiently. Previously, he had to spend a lot of time searching for prey, but now, they were practically coming to him. He also noticed his night vision had improved, allowing him to see almost as clearly as during the day. His Universal Points had already surpassed 600. The main reason was his encounters with Bronze-ranked monsters, which let him accumulate points faster. Despite this, Silas held off on purchasing an inventory. His top priority was acquiring a personal assistant. He had too many questions and didn¡¯t dare ask outsiders for answers. The night passed with Silas continuing his relentless hunt. Suddenly, while scanning for his next target, he felt something and turned around. Seeing nothing, he grew wary and moved forward, keeping his senses on high alert. Moments later, a black spider emerged from the shadow of a nearby tree. Its pitch-black eyes and dark body gave off a sinister vibe. The spider leaped silently from one shadow to another, closing the distance between itself and Silas. Silas, without even looking back, instinctively grabbed one of the spears strapped to his back and launched it. Gotcha. The spider, which had been confidently stalking Silas like a mantis stalking a cicada, panicked and tried to retreat into the shadows. But it was too late. The spear nailed it to the ground before it could escape. ¡°Killed Bronze-ranked Shadow Terror = 10 Universal Points gained.¡± Silas waited for a moment, but no skill book dropped. He felt a pang of disappointment. This wasn¡¯t the first Shadow Terror he¡¯d killed. The first time he saw its abilities, he was thrilled by the prospect of acquiring its cool assassin-like skill. Since then, he¡¯d been deliberately luring them out, hoping to get lucky. So far, no dice. He didn¡¯t know what the exact drop rate for skill books was, but he wasn¡¯t overly worried. He had already obtained one and knew their rarity was part of what made them so valuable. If skill books were easy to get, they wouldn¡¯t be in such high demand. With this final kill, Silas¡¯s Universal Points finally reached 1,000. Without a moment¡¯s hesitation, he opened the shop icon and pressed the purchase button. Chapter 19: Personal assistant When Silas pressed the purchase option, the icon in the store column began to disperse into light particles. Slowly, the particles gathered and started to form a shape near Silas. As the light solidified, a small humanoid figure emerged¡ªa 5-inch-tall pixie wrapped in a thick winter coat and lugging a massive backpack. She floated in front of his eyes, swaying left and right under the weight of her luggage. Seeing her appearance, Silas didn¡¯t know what to say. Instead of looking like a personal assistant, she seemed more like a young lady who had just turned 18 and moved out of her parents'' house for the first time. Watching the struggling pixie sway under her burden, Silas gently extended his paw, offering her a place to stand. As soon as she landed on his paw, the pixie carefully slid the bag off her shoulders and placed it down, sighing in relief. She wiped the sweat from her forehead with a white handkerchief before opening her bag and rummaging through its contents. Silas: ¡°...¡± All he could do was wait patiently as she focused entirely on her search. After several seconds, the pixie finally pulled out a stack of papers and handed them to him with a polite bow. Silas, still clueless, directed his attention to the papers. Although he didn¡¯t understand the language, the meaning became clear to him somehow. ¡°Employment Contract¡± The pages began to turn on their own, allowing Silas to grasp the details. Wait, what? I have to sign an employment contract to get a personal assistant? Silas, who had expected to freeload after paying the purchasing fee, was stunned to see that he had to pay a monthly wage, food allowance, medical allowance, and even a snack allowance. His mouth twitched as he read further. He glanced at the pixie, suspicion forming in his mind.If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation. Did she forge this herself? The contract explicitly stated that Silas would be responsible for her food and accommodation. To be honest, Silas had been expecting some kind of artificial intelligence assistant, not someone he¡¯d have to take care of. Still, the contract also clarified that once signed, the pixie would be bound to him and unable to leave, even if she wanted to. Considering this and the fact that the total pay was only 100 Universal Contribution Points per year¡ªincluding all allowances and a yearly 5% raise¡ªSilas decided it wasn¡¯t such a bad deal. For him, 100 points weren¡¯t much, and the contract detailed the extensive help she could provide. Weighing his options, Silas didn¡¯t hesitate. He pressed his nail to the employer signature section. The contract dissipated into thin air, and he felt a strange power binding him to the pixie. He could now sense her as though she were part of him. The pixie, who hadn¡¯t spoken a word until now, finally smiled sweetly and said, ¡°Young Lord, please take care of me!¡± For her, becoming a personal assistant was a far more significant deal. Her life and death were now tied to Silas¡ªshe couldn¡¯t die unless he did, and she could never leave his side. Pixies like her, despite being favored by the universal laws, faced a cruel fate. With their negligible combat strength and short lifespans, many had been treated as collectibles by powerful beings. Some were even turned into macabre ¡°butterfly books,¡± pinned and preserved like trophies. To protect them, the universal laws had granted them a way out¡ªemployment contracts. By binding themselves to people who contribute to the universe. In this way, they could enhance their survival chances. Some hosts even went above and beyond, investing immense effort and resources to strengthen their assistants. However, the price was steep. She was quite nervous within, for her who left her family behind and entered a new world now had to entrust her life to someone else. The little pixie wasn¡¯t sure what kind of master Silas would be. Would her life improve, or would it become even more miserable? The laws could only protect her so much, and there were always loopholes that others could exploit. Meanwhile, Silas, now with a personal assistant, began thinking about getting an inventory next. He raised his paw, letting the pixie climb onto his head. ¡°You can stay here for now. We¡¯ll talk as we move on,¡± he said. Even though Silas wasn¡¯t afraid of the spiders in this dungeon, he didn¡¯t want to waste time dealing with them. He could feel the monsters around him growing restless¡ªa sign that he was nearing the dungeon boss. Meanwhile the little pixie dragged her bag and made herself comfortable in Silas''s silky mane. Chapter 20: Grimoires Looking at the pixie trying to secure her luggage in his mane, Silas was left speechless. Did she also not have an inventory? Silas guessed it might be because one needed to earn Universal Points themselves to unlock the Universal Point Store. Even though Silas couldn¡¯t directly see her actions, he could sense what she was doing. The pixie, who was struggling to keep the luggage from falling off, suddenly had an idea. Grasping two strands of Silas¡¯s mane, she tied them to her luggage handle, securing it firmly. Silas¡¯s eyelids twitched slightly in response. Buzz. The pixie, having finally secured her luggage, fluttered in front of Silas, bowed politely, and began to introduce herself. Silas finally learned her name¡ªNina¡ªand began to understand a bit more about what was going on around him. With Nina as his personal assistant, he could now clear the many doubts that had been plaguing him. Up until this point, Silas had little knowledge about the world he was in and was in a precarious position where he couldn¡¯t risk asking others. But things were different now. As Nina spoke, she briefly recounted her tribe¡¯s history, deepening Silas¡¯s understanding of her origins. Silas listened intently as she explained the grandeur of the world around him. His amazement grew, particularly when she elaborated on some of the peculiarities of the place, the nether monsters he¡¯d hunted earlier, and the dungeon he was currently in. ¡°Young Lord, dungeons have far more value than you can imagine¡ªespecially the dungeon core. Please ensure you secure and safeguard it. Once we reach the marketplace, we can hand it over to a Codex Crafter to create a Grimoire.¡± Silas was puzzled upon hearing the word Grimoire, as he had no idea what it was. Without hesitation, he asked Nina directly. Nina¡¯s eyes widened, and she gave Silas a strange look, thinking he must be a country bumpkin. Silas¡¯s eyes twitched as he could practically hear her thoughts. He mumbled, ¡°Yeah, yeah. Looks like you need a bite.¡±This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. The pixie: ¡°...¡± Realizing her thoughts were seen through, the pixie quickly hid behind Silas¡¯s mane and mumbled softly, ¡°Young Lord, you must have heard wrong. What I meant was that you are not bothered by worldly affairs as you might find these things beneath you.¡± Silas¡¯s mouth twitched. He wanted to rebuke her but gave up. Instead, he said, ¡°Okay, come out. I won¡¯t bite you.¡± Peeking out from the mane, she asked, ¡°Promise?¡± Silas: "...Yes." The pixie fluttered her tiny wings and came in front of him. ¡°Young Lord, it¡¯s like this¡ Grimoires are books that help lords store their armies and contracted beasts. Grimoires have a world of their own because they are forged using dungeon cores. Essentially, once you clear a dungeon and take its core, the dungeon disappears and is stored inside the dungeon core. Each dungeon core contains a small world within it.¡± Silas¡¯s eyes sparkled as he heard about the possibility of having contracted beasts and an army of his own. The idea of Grimoires amazed him, as he had never heard of such things back in the human world. Grimoires seemed to lift the storage restriction for summoners, allowing them to tame and store beasts. However, Silas shook his head inwardly. He recalled that beast taming was an innate ability, a rare profession. Only people born with a beast-taming space in their consciousness could tame and summon beasts. This ability manifested during the awakening process, when people became hunters. Silas had not gained a beast-taming space when he awakened as a hunter, so he had given up on the idea. Suddenly, as if struck by lightning, Silas scanned his body. His mouth fell open in shock as he discovered a mysterious space within his sea of consciousness. His thoughts raced. If everything about him had been synchronized between his human and beast forms, could it mean the beast-taming space had also been synchronized? A new door of possibility opened in Silas¡¯s mind. Beast taming was one of the rarest professions. Even among the hunters, who were themselves rare (only 15% of the population), less than 5% were beast tamers. Multiple pairs of hands are stronger than one, Silas thought. By this logic, his power would increase exponentially. But beast tamers had limitations. The beast-taming space was not unlimited; it could only hold a limited number of beasts. Starting from the Iron Rank, a tamer could hold one beast, and with each rank increase, they could add another. Additionally, taming a beast more than one level above their rank carried risks. The contract could break, causing a backlash, and in some cases, the summoner could even die. Even with such drawbacks, beast tamers stood as a pinnacle force. By nature, beasts were much stronger than humans of the same level. If a tamer managed to secure a rare beast with unique abilities... Chapter 21: The fierce Personal assistant But many such limitations no longer applied to Silas. Once he forged a Grimoire, its only limitation would be the number of dungeon cores a person could procure. Unlike clearing a dungeon by defeating its boss and exiting, touching the dungeon core summoned a being one level higher than the boss monster. This was no ordinary monster¡ªit was a demon, a being considered royalty in the Nether World. The Nether World, unwilling to lose a dungeon core¡ªmore valuable than all the monsters inside the dungeon combined¡ªused the demon as a last-ditch effort to protect it. Unlike mindless beasts, demons were far more challenging to defeat, which was why dungeon cores were scarce in the market. Few dared to face such trials, and even when dungeon cores were sold, their prices were exorbitant¡ªenough to make even the wealthiest individuals shed bloody tears. Considering all this, Silas remained calm. The demon summoned should only be at Silver Rank, given that the dungeon boss would be at the peak of Bronze Rank. A foe of that caliber was well within Silas¡¯s current might. While a Silver Rank might pose more of a challenge, Silas felt confident he could handle it. After explaining the greatness of Grimoires, Nina continued, transitioning to a broader topic: the universe they were in, which had birthed countless great beings. The universe¡¯s name was The Great Sentinel, a title carrying immense weight among countless known universes. It was one of the most protected places in existence, renowned for its myths and unparalleled grandeur. Nina¡¯s eyes sparkled with pride as she spoke of her home. Despite being only 150,000 light-years in size¡ªcomparable to an average galaxy¡ªThe Great Sentinel was classified as a universe due to its immense energy and priceless resources. It resided in a unique realm of time and space, preventing any intrusions from outsiders. But the name The Great Sentinel carried even greater significance due to a legendary location within it: The Path of Sentinels. This was the site of the fabled Sentinel Trial, shrouded in mystery and legend.A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation. Nina admitted that she knew little beyond the trial¡¯s name. Its purpose and nature were beyond her understanding. Still, compared to his earlier cluelessness, the information was a significant improvement for Silas. Once his doubts were cleared, Nina hesitated before speaking softly, her voice tinged with nervousness. ¡°Young Master, can you help me kill some monsters? I¡ I can provide you more help when I grow stronger.¡± Her voice trembled, betraying her uncertainty. She wasn¡¯t sure if Silas would agree. Many were unwilling to invest in strengthening their personal assistants, often viewing them as endless money pits. This lack of support was one reason her race had stagnated, forced to rely on stronger beings for survival. Silas, oblivious to these complexities, readily agreed. ¡°No problem,¡± he replied casually. Nina¡¯s eyes widened with surprise and relief. A spark of hope ignited in her heart.
Boom. Boom. As Silas advanced through the dungeon, he looked up. Above his head, amidst the branches of towering trees, layers upon layers of webs were woven like a carpet. A green spider, the size of a tank, stared at him, poised to strike. Silas¡¯s eyes gleamed, but he refrained from using his homemade spears. He feared killing the spider in one hit, remembering his promise to Nina. Instead, Silas slammed into the tree where the spider was perched. Boom! The massive tree, with a trunk over a dozen meters in diameter, snapped in half under the impact. Things happened quickly. The spider had no time to react. It crashed to the ground, rolling away from Silas¡¯s direction. With a single leap, Silas dashed toward it and slammed his paw down, pinning the spider to the ground. The spider¡¯s legs twitched weakly¡ªit was barely clinging to life. Understanding Silas¡¯s intent, Nina, perched on his mane, pulled a bow from her backpack and drew her bowstring. The bow transformed into a crescent shape. Twing. Woosh. The arrow struck the spider¡¯s head and....bounced off. The spider: ¡ Silas: ¡ Nina: ¡ The spider looked at Silas with a final expression of resentment. Its twitching ceased entirely. Poor guy. Looks like his heart gave out. even Silas felt a little bit of pity as it was not a grand way to go out ¡°Killed a Bronze Rank Green Tree Spider. Received 1 Universe Contribution Point.¡± seeing the long awaited message before her eyes Nina punched the air excitedly... finally she could enjoy the joy of shopping Chapter 22: Star fruit tree Nina, who had just obtained her first Universal Points, was in a good mood. Now, she would be able to purchase an inventory and store her belongings. Meanwhile, Silas, like a primal being from the boonies, still had to carry his belongings on his back. Things were now a little easier. Since Nina had acquired her first Universal Points, Silas could share a portion of his Universal Points with her for each kill. This would further enable her to gain Evolution Points by consuming monster meat, as she had been recognized as a personal assistant by the system. This loosened the restriction that previously prevented people who didn¡¯t kill from obtaining Evolution Points from beast meat. Silas now shared 15% of the Universal Points obtained from his kills with Nina. This arrangement wasn¡¯t part of any contract, and no one could force him to do it. Silas did this willingly, as Nina was now part of his strength. If she improved, it would only benefit him. Silas did this without a second thought, as if it were second nature. When the notification appeared in front of her, Nina was shocked. She realized she would receive 15% of the points from every kill without putting in any effort. She hadn¡¯t expected him to do such a thing for her. Her eyes grew moist, and she clenched her fists with determination, nodding as if she had come to a conclusion. Silas, who was watching her antics from the side, could only shake his head inwardly, knowing exactly what she was thinking. After settling their matters, they both began moving toward the middle of the dungeon in search of the dungeon boss. The monsters that came slamming toward Silas were dealt with effortlessly. However, someone was even more excited than Silas. Nina, who had made Silas¡¯s mane her home, was swinging left and right, cheering excitedly as she counted the gains. Silas, with a bunch of giant spears on his back, had already started clearing out the Subterranean Widow layer, earning him more than 1,400 points and 100 points for Nina, bringing the total gain to 1,500 points. Silas decided to purchase the inventory, even though Silas felt he could add more spears to it. However, carrying more spears would only increase his unwanted load and potentially affect his agility. Without hesitation, Silas purchased the inventory. Soon, an inventory feature, arranged in a grid-style pattern like those in games, appeared before his eyes. With a single thought, Silas added all the spears to his inventory. If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. There was something Silas needed to test out that has been pestering him for along time. If it worked, he could easily get rich in the human world. Silas was excited to return to the human world and test it, but he didn¡¯t let himself get distracted. He still had a dungeon to clear. Pushing all distracting thoughts to the back of his mind, Silas strode forward, clearing the dungeon mobs as he went. Three hours passed in the blink of an eye. Silas now stood at the edge of a valley, looking ahead. He saw a sea of boiling lava surrounding a huge mountain. The mountain was adorned with glowing red crystals, and at its peak stood a massive tree overlooking the entire dungeon. Silas was shocked and muttered, ¡°Is this tree the dungeon boss? And it even grew a fruit. Will a spider pop out of the fruit and fight me when I get near it?¡± His eyes gleamed as he asked, ¡°Nina, do you know about this tree?¡± Nina was speechless at Silas¡¯s words. To be honest, she was also momentarily dazed. She hadn¡¯t expected to see such a tree in a low-level dungeon. Based on her knowledge, such a tree shouldn¡¯t exist in any dungeon, and even high-tier dungeons didn¡¯t have enough energy to nurture something like this. ¡°This is a Star Fruit Tree,¡± Nina said. ¡°It looks like it¡¯s fruit is about mature. Young Master, it seems you¡¯re in luck.¡± Silas wasn¡¯t sure what she was getting at, so he asked, ¡°Will it be like a World Tree? A star will be born in each one of the fruits?¡± ¡°No,¡± Nina rolled her eyes. ¡°Young Master, don¡¯t dream while standing here. This can¡¯t be compared to the World Tree worshipped by the elven race. But it¡¯s still a sacred tree protected by Star Wolves and very important to them. I¡¯m not sure who planted it here and is trying to grow it secretly. Young Master, you should definitely get this tree. Each Star Fruit Tree can nurture a Star Wolf, and the tree withers after birthing one. It might be quite useful to you.¡± Silas nodded, but his thoughts were elsewhere. A Star Wolf, with the body of a Nyxian Pride, would provide limited assistance to him. But if his human body could obtain it, it would offer significant support. Silas wasn¡¯t foolish enough to think he was lucky to stumble upon a Star Fruit Tree growing naturally. It must have been planted by someone. He looked around but couldn¡¯t find anyone¡ªnot even the dungeon boss. Upon closer inspection, he noticed that the tree wasn¡¯t growing in soil but was planted on the corpse of a giant spider. The entire mountain was filled with corpses, each exuding a powerful and terrible aura, signifying that they were far stronger than Silas. That explained how such a tree could survive in a low-level dungeon. Silas felt that something was wrong and even considered retreating. But he stopped himself, remembering that dungeons had restrictions. Only beings one level higher than the boss monster could appear, and this dungeon¡¯s boss monster should be at peak Bronze level. A peak Silver-level creature might appear if he tried to take the core, but Silas was confident he could handle a peak Silver if he unleashed his full strength. Chapter 23 Demon from the nether realm Looking at the Star Fruit Tree, Silas decided he had to get his hands on the dungeon core. Since the tree was part of the dungeon, taking the dungeon core would be enough to claim it. Once he found someone to forge a grimoire, he could use this very dungeon as a place to raise his Star Wolf. There was even a possibility that he could transfer the grimoire to his human self, which would be far more useful than using it in his Nyxian Pride form. As plans took shape in Silas¡¯s mind, something else was happening to the dungeon core. The core, which had been floating in the middle of the altar, started to flicker. Silas¡¯s heart tightened¡ªwhat was to come had finally arrived. Nina, who had been looking around the dungeon, flew swiftly to his mane to hide. Silas was speechless. ¡°Little lass, it¡¯s not like you can take damage and die. Why are you in such a hurry to hide?¡± Nina pouted at his words. It was just an old habit, and she still wasn¡¯t used to being an energy body. Even though Silas said she couldn¡¯t take damage and die, that was only valid as long as Silas was alive. If he died, she would perish as well. The flickering crystal pulsed, and a thin, narrow crack formed in the space above the altar. A moment later, something forcefully smashed the narrow opening from the other side. The space shattered, releasing a dark miasma that poured out unceasingly, making Silas slightly uncomfortable. A huge leg emerged from the portal, shaking the entire dungeon, followed by a giant humanoid beast stepping through. Nina was shocked. Her trembling voice barely escaped her lips. ¡°How could¡?¡± She couldn¡¯t even complete her sentence. The being that had torn through space and entered was a noble race of the Netherworld. ¡°What do we have here?¡± A grumbling voice echoed through the dungeon. ¡°They said this place is locked and no one can enter.¡± Both Nina and Silas looked ahead in shock. A giant humanoid figure stood before them, its presence warping the surrounding space into complete darkness due to the thick miasma emanating from its body. The demon was clad in dark red armor with intricate crimson patterns, and a red flame symbol burned atop his head. He gazed at Silas and Nina as if they were mere pests. Nina swallowed hard. ¡°Young Master, I think it¡¯s better to exit the dungeon and give up on the Star Fruit Tree. With your current strength, I doubt we¡¯ll have a good ending¡¡± Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. Standing before them was one of the Giant Demons from the Mountain Splitter race¡ªa name that symbolized their sheer size. The stark size difference alone pushed her into despair. She knew Silas was strong, but just how strong was he? She had no answer to that. The Mountain Splitter Giant looked at them with mockery. But when his gaze settled on Silas, he saw no panic. No fear. Just a grin. If Silas had been in his human form, he would have cracked his knuckles to show who was boss. But it was a pity¡ªthis little dwarf, only about 260 meters tall, was trying to overpower him with sheer size? What a joke. Silas had yet to unleash his full size, and Nina had no idea he could even grow. ¡°Latch on tight, little lass.¡± As Silas spoke, he leaped forward, approaching the giant swiftly. He had no interest in wasting time talking to low-level mobs. If he could kill, he would kill. If he couldn¡¯t, he would run. That was all there was to it. With each step he took, Silas¡¯s size doubled. He wasn¡¯t planning to unleash his full size¡ªwhere was the fun in that? After taking a little over a dozen steps, he pounced. The giant was caught off guard. His advantage was suddenly gone. With a roar, the demon withdrew the fiery red blade from the halberd strapped to his waist and swung it down. ¡°Clashing weapons, are we?¡± Silas grumbled. He could grab weapons and use his tail as a substitute for his hands, but it was still just that¡ªa substitute. He was far more comfortable using his actual hands to wield weapons. Maybe he should start looking for a way to obtain the Transform Skill soon. The skill had stringent requirements, needing blood essence to transform into a species for the first time. Even with such harsh conditions, it was a rare and heavily restricted ability. In the human world, it was tightly controlled due to its use in identity theft, murder, robberies, and scams. Anyone who possessed the skill had to be registered and abide by special laws. Of course, enforcement was tricky. Unless someone witnessed a transformation, no one would know. People still used the skill, and the government was powerless to stop them. Silas pounced at the giant. The demon slashed with its fiery red blade, aiming to cleave Silas in two. Silas struck the blade with his claws. Clang! A metallic ringing echoed through the dungeon as the demon was sent flying from the impact. Damn. Even Silas was shocked by his own strength. He had only used 20-30% of his power. Moreover, the demon was two realms above him¡ªthis should have been a much tougher opponent. ¡°AAARGH!¡± The demon roared in fury, humiliated. He was from one of the strongest races in the Netherworld, known for their brute strength, yet he had just been tossed aside like a mere child¡ªby someone two realms lower than him. This had never happened before. All his life, he had been unrivaled, which was why his clan leader had entrusted him with this dungeon. The memory of his leader¡¯s words surfaced in his mind. "Little guy, look what I¡¯ve got for you. Considering how outstanding you¡¯ve been, I had to spend some time to procure a Star Tree for you." If he failed to protect it¡ He clenched his fists. He couldn¡¯t afford to disappoint his clan leader, who had shown him such kindness. Yet these two pests had almost stolen it right under his nose. His mind grew heavy, and his eyes turned red. ROOOOAR! His deafening roar reverberated through the dungeon, shaking the walls. A suffocating aura engulfed the space as a vague silhouette began to form behind him. It was ten times larger than the giant himself. A golden flame symbol burned on its forehead. As the demon summoned his Battle Spirit, his complexion turned pale. His lifeforce was draining rapidly¡ªthis was his last move. Silas¡¯s back was drenched in cold sweat. That thing behind the demon¡ It gave him the feeling that if he took even one hit¡ª H e would die. He had to attack NOW before it took full shape. He couldn¡¯t hesitate. He had to end it. Die. Die. Chapter 24: Escape
The giant roared as the vague silhouette behind him swung his sword down, aiming at Silas. As its arms came down, Silas shrunk back to his previous size and rolled sideways, narrowly missing the edge of the sword. Silas, without hesitation, pulled one of the spears from his inventory and launched it straight at the silhouette. The martial spirit roared and swung down the blade, chopping the spear in two vertically. Silas: " " Damn it, I should find a transformation skill soon and take on some humanoid form, preferably. He preferred using weapons with his hands to be honest, as he felt that with his tail, he couldn''t utilize much power. Maybe I should get some beast claw weapons or gauntlets, armor to fit my body, and a weapon for my tail¡ªlike a spiked tail weapon. But he immediately needed a transformation skill. He felt that using a humanoid form would be much better, as that would help him get proficient with weapons that could be used in the human world. While Silas was contemplating all these random thoughts, he noticed that the spirit behind the giant had started to flicker and dim. Silas realized that this giant was probably a newbie and couldn¡¯t handle a martial spirit. But Silas did not know that even martial spirits had grades, and the one before him was a Rank A martial spirit. This one was essentially a legacy of the giant clan, exclusive to their clan¡¯s geniuses, and it demanded far more energy to maintain. Vorrok had only recently ascended to the Silver Rank just a week ago, so he was still not proficient in handling the martial spirit. He hadn¡¯t yet fully synchronized with it to borrow enough power, which forced him to use more stamina than necessary. Damn it. Vorrok''s mood worsened as he felt the martial spirit weakening. He wouldn¡¯t be able to last much longer, and he needed to finish this guy within the next few moves¡ªotherwise, the tables would turn. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. After almost emptying his bundle of spears, Silas decided to get into close proximity to attack. He leaped forward, dodging left and right from the incoming sword slashes. When he was about a couple hundred meters from the giant, he stamped down hard on the ground. The earth sunk several meters, the whole dungeon shook, and web-like cracks started to appear throughout the dungeon as Silas used more than 70% of his strength. Boom. Silas appeared in the sky right above the martial spirit and looked down. Silas grinned and muttered in his mind, "Cannonball." The giant, seeing Silas appear right above his head, furrowed his brow as question marks appeared in his mind, as this guy just turned himself into an easy target. He had basically presented himself on a silver platter¡ªhe couldn¡¯t move freely or dodge while in the air. Vorrok didn¡¯t want to waste the opportunity. The martial spirit stabbed its huge sword toward Silas, planning to impale him while he was still airborne. Silas, seeing the incoming sword, did not panic. He tucked himself like a cannonball, narrowly avoiding the tip of the blade. As he began to descend from the sky, his size started to grow¡ªlarger and larger¡ªuntil soon, the entire sky disappeared. Silas, now countless times larger than the martial spirit, descended with a rumbling sound as the air was torn apart. As he neared the giant, Silas unfurled himself above its head and extended his paw, smashing both the spirit and the giant, who scrambled in panic to escape. Boom. A resounding explosion echoed through the dungeon as the entire structure shook violently. Cracks spread throughout the dungeon, and a massive crater, covering nearly a quarter of the dungeon, formed. Silas, now back to his original size, climbed out of the crater and looked back, breathing a sigh of relief. The Star Fruit Tree was still standing. If he had crushed it, that would have been quite awkward, considering the effort he had spent acquiring it. But as he scanned the area, his face fell¡ªthe giant was nowhere to be seen. While falling, he had felt slight resistance. Now, looking at the place where the giant had disappeared, he saw a small crack rapidly healing. "Looks like he escaped." Silas didn¡¯t worry too much. His main goal had been to obtain the Star Fruit Tree, and he had finally achieved it. As for the giant returning in the future to take revenge¡ Silas wasn¡¯t afraid. If he dares to appear again, he won¡¯t be as lucky next time.
Chapter 25: The clan leader At the same time that Silas smashed down his paw, countless realms apart, on one of the deeper floors of the Netherworld, a being sitting in the void opened its eyes with a frown. Countless thoughts and scenarios played through its mind. If one looked closely at the giant¡¯s eyes, they would see endless carnage and a river of blood, enough to push one¡¯s mind into a daze. The giant was deep in thought. After some contemplation, and with slight hesitation, he stretched out his hand. The void distorted, and space was torn open. As the giant forcefully pushed his hand inside the portal, his flesh withered, and even his hair started turning white. Yet, he did not pause, his face remaining expressionless. Vorrak, who was desperately trying to escape the giant paw smashing toward him, suddenly felt something. Looking to his right, he saw space being forcefully torn apart, and a skeletal hand appeared out of nowhere. The hand, reduced to bone, grabbed him and pulled him into the torn space. Vorrak couldn¡¯t even put up a struggle. As soon as Silas¡¯s paw landed, the portal leaving only a thin crack in the space. Now pale, Vorrak found himself kneeling inside a grand palace. A massive throne, made from the bones of ancient creatures, stood in the middle of the hall¡ªbut no one was there. The hall was empty. Remembering the skeletal hand that had reached out to him, his mind was in turmoil. This place was not unfamiliar to him¡ The last time he had been here was when he had received the seed of the Star Fruit Tree. As a multitude of emotions coursed through his mind, a calm voice reverberated through the palace. "Vorrak, you may return." Vorrak¡¯s eyes turned red, He could not even begin to fathom the price his clan leader had paid to rescue him. He don''t know if the clan leader is disappointed he felt like he had to explain but no words came out of him mouth... he was defeated, that was the truth, at the end he chose to remain silent, he simply knelt and bowed deeply, his forehead touching the ground. all this while his mind was filled with arrogance of being the top genius of the clan and being valued by the clan leader... he thought he was undefeated and unrivaled in the same realm and he could even easily defeat someone of the higher realm....but this day his confidence and his arrogance were shattered... In the void, the giant looked at his hand¡ªnow reduced to bone. He shook his head. Was the price worth it? For him, yes. Vorrak was one of the top geniuses of the clan and carried his lineage. This price was definitely worth it. As for Vorrak losing his motivation after being defeated by someone of a lower realm¡ the giant wasn¡¯t too worried. There were many strange and bizarre creatures in this universe¡ªbeings that defied all logic and common sense, enough to make one despair and question their existence. Thinking about the black lion he had perceived in the dungeon, the giant¡¯s gaze flickered. "A member of the Nyxian Pride¡ They still exist?" The upcoming times would not be so boring, after all. Memories he wished he had long forgotten slowly surfaced. The author''s tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
Silas, now alone in the dungeon, pushed thoughts of the giant to the back of his mind. There was no reason to worry about it¡ªif he could kill, he would kill; if the enemy escaped, there was nothing else to be done. Looking at the tree in the distance, Silas reached out with his paw and grabbed the dungeon core from the altar. As soon as he did, the entire dungeon flickered like a dying lightbulb¡ªthen, suddenly, Silas was back in the forest. Nina poked her head out from his mane, looking around with excitement. She took a deep breath and muttered, "Young Master, the energy in this place is multiple times higher than my home world. Young Master¡ soon, let¡¯s go home. I''m exhausted from all the fighting and killing¡ Will I get my own separate room?" Nina looked at Silas expectantly. Silas: "Home? What home¡? And what do you mean by killing?" Silas thought about the spider that had begrudgingly taken its last breath, staring at him with resentment. "Home¡" Thinking about the shabby cave he had been using as his home, black lines formed on his face. A new question surfaced in his mind¡ª "Do monsters even live in houses?" He kept his thoughts to himself, forming a new priority in his mind. "Buy a home before Nina finds out about my situation." Well, now that he had all the corpses from the dungeon, and considering he carried the entire dungeon core with him, he wasn¡¯t worried about money. The beasts they had killed should be tradeable, right? He also remembered the Nether Stones the old centipede had mentioned¡ and his debt that needed repayment. His war spoils should be enough¡ right? Maybe if he had managed to kill that giant, his profits would have been much higher¡ªbut there was nothing he could do about that now. He asked, "Nina, you mentioned a market where we could trade stuff, right? Would it be possible to trade for Nether Stones?" "Yes, Young Master, but why do you need Nether Stones? Most of what you need can be purchased using Universal Points and they have a higher purchasing power when compared to nether stones, and nether Stones don¡¯t provide much benefit to you unless you pursue a life profession. Ah¡ªyeah, they¡¯re sometimes used to transfer resources since they¡¯re a stable currency. Universal Points can''t be directly traded, so Nether Stones act as the general currency instead." "Universal Contribution Points are much more valuable, and there are certain perks when your points reach a certain limit. Since Universal Points are difficult to obtain, you can either kill Nether Monsters or work as a craftsman¡ªcreating and selling items via the system store." Silas navigated to the market tab and selected to sell all the items in his inventory except the dungeon core. A prompt appeared: Total value of items: 430 Nether Stones. Finalize the deal? Silas pressed "Yes." All his items vanished, replaced by an icon of pitch-dark stones with the number 430 beneath it. After spending so long clearing the dungeon, he was now left with only 430 stones. He still had to pay 200 as a penalty¡ Silas felt his heart bleed. Well, it was better than being hunted down. With 230 stones left, he should be able to afford a home, right? Seeing Silas''s sour expression, Nina muttered, "Young Master, if you¡¯re willing to sell the dungeon core, you could get around 30,000 stones." "30,000?" Silas was tempted¡ªbut he held himself back. Nether Stones could be obtained easily, even if it took some time. But getting a dungeon core was far more difficult. This was just an Iron Rank dungeon core, yet it had Bronze Rank mini-bosses and a Silver Rank final boss¡ He could only imagine the high-ranked dungeons. And when you belonged to a party, your profits dwindled. Most people didn¡¯t even try to claim the dungeon core¡ªit would trigger the final boss monster¡¯s appearance. Since Iron Rank dungeons only allowed Iron Rank members inside, facing a Silver Rank boss was practically a death sentence¡ Unless you were someone who didn¡¯t fit under common sense. Chapter 26: Countdown to extinction Silas closed his eyes and muttered, ¡°Return.¡± It had been a long time since he had last set foot in the human world. His heart was filled with carnage, and he needed a change of environment. Even though he hadn¡¯t faced much danger here, nothing compared to the feeling of being home. Moreover, there were things he needed to check, so he decided to return and take care of them. Silas opened his eyes and immediately felt the surge of power coursing through him. His evolution points had reached the maximum limit for the Iron rank. A smile formed on his lips as he sensed his strength¡ªit was exhilarating. He had completely bypassed the usual one evolution point per day limit imposed on humans. Perhaps it was different for other races, but Silas didn¡¯t know for sure. A hundred days might not seem like much at this stage, but as one advanced to higher ranks, the requirements became exponentially harsher. To reach Bronze rank, he would need 1,000 evolution points¡ªa tenfold increase. Silver rank required 10,000 points, and the pattern continued. Progression wasn¡¯t just about accumulating points; stringent requirements also came into play. For instance, one needed to find a martial spirit at Silver rank. That was precisely why humanity lacked high-ranked evolvers. "Inventory," Silas muttered. A screen flickered before him, revealing his stored items. He let out a sigh of relief at the sight of his condo and the dungeon core. Now, his plan could proceed smoothly. He retrieved the dungeon core from the inventory. It was a large, fist-sized object adorned with intricate golden runes. He examined it briefly before putting it back, lost in thought. With the ability to transfer resources between both worlds, Silas could now buy special items to strengthen his human body. He also considered capturing powerful beasts as summons and forging a grimoire that would enhance his abilities. His human form needed more combat strength. Should he bring that little lass over here as well? She could be useful. The possibility intrigued him¡ªafter all, if the Star Fruit Tree from the dungeon core could be taken to the human world, then perhaps she could too. Once the grimoire was complete, he could allocate a page for Nina, creating a way for her to travel between realms. The sheer complexity of the universal system fascinated Silas. Who could have created something so extraordinary? The inventory alone was a mystery. If he focused on a beast-taming or summoner lineage, he was certain he could eventually acquire exotic beast eggs. The thought of riding a dragon, instilling awe¡ªahem¡ªbeing revered by the masses, filled him with anticipation. With another thought, Silas opened the Universal Point Shop. "Good, this works too," he muttered. He could now purchase items directly in the human world, even those beyond the inventory¡¯s handling capacity. A truly mysterious system indeed. Could he capture a Nether Demon and tame it? That giant thing seemed powerful¡ His mind wandered with possibilities. Meanwhile, in one of the human world¡¯s major cities, a high-level meeting was taking place. The atmosphere inside the conference hall was grim. Top-ranked evolvers and military officials sat around a table, their expressions dark with concern. If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it''s taken without permission from the author. Report it. A man slammed his fist down in frustration. "Mr. Kim, you said we had another decade before the merge was complete! Why is everything accelerating?" Mr. Kim frowned deeply. "I don¡¯t know either. Based on our previous calculations, the barrier between worlds should have held for at least ten more years before showing signs of weakening. But something¡ something on the other side is rapidly draining its energy. Whatever it is, it¡¯s accelerating the collapse far beyond our expectations. We don¡¯t have time. We need to move to Plan B." Another official grimaced. "Our nuclear arsenals were already depleted after that disaster. Right now, we have only eight Diamond-ranked evolvers and about a thousand Gold-ranked ones. Based on our power assessments, we¡¯ll be absolutely crushed once the barrier falls." Silence fell over the room. Mr. Kim sighed. "I know what you¡¯re all thinking. But the truth is, we didn¡¯t have enough time to develop further." Mr. Shaw, one of the eight Diamond-ranked evolvers, leaned forward. "Back when the mana awakening happened, Blue Star experienced an unprecedented catastrophe. Seventy percent of the world¡¯s population perished in a single day. Most people assumed it was a side effect of the mana awakening¡ªbut it wasn¡¯t." His voice was grim. "The truth is, even the awakening itself was a side effect of something much bigger: a world crashing into Blue Star. The surge of mana we experienced was a mere leak from that world. Fortunately, a mysterious barrier protected our planet, preventing direct destruction. But even the shockwaves were enough to wipe out most of humanity. "And now, that same barrier is deteriorating at an alarming rate. It was supposed to hold for much longer, but something has accelerated its collapse. Just last week, we detected a severe drop in its energy levels. We barely have any time left." The weight of his words settled over the room like a suffocating fog. "If we can¡¯t stop this," Mr. Kim continued, "our only option is to abandon Blue Star. We¡¯ll have to retreat into the gates. Only awakened individuals can enter. The rest¡" His voice trailed off, as the image of his wife and their young daughter appeared on his mind, even if he faltered.... he should not as one of the pillars of humanity Their silence spoke volumes. If they couldn¡¯t stop this disaster, they would have to leave the majority of humanity behind to perish. They couldn¡¯t even announce it publicly¡ªit would cause unnecessary riots and chaos. Now, within a week, they needed to locate every awakened individual and move forward with the contingency plan. If the crisis was averted, they could return. If not¡ The highest-ranked evolvers¡ªtheir world¡¯s last line of defense¡ªwould stay behind and fight. The war protocols were initiated. A full information blackout was enforced. Top officials were barred from contacting their families to prevent leaks. The next seven days would decide humanity¡¯s fate. On the massive screen behind them, a countdown appeared: 175 hours 45 minutes 23 seconds to extinction. A heavy silence fell over the room. Some inwardly cursed whoever had thought of adding that countdown¡ªit wasn¡¯t helping their sanity. Alerts were sent to world leaders, and a global virtual war room was established to strategize one last time¡ to survive. ¡ª Oblivious to the existential crisis looming over his home world, Silas was preoccupied with something far more personal¡ªhatching schemes to shake the world with his power and establish himself as a celebrity. After spending a few peaceful hours at Uncle Jay¡¯s shop, he finally decided to return to home. But as he was heading home, his phone buzzed. A new message had arrived¡ Chapter 27: A legacy site appeared? Hunters Bureau ¨C We have found traces of a legacy site, suspected to be a remnant of an ancient sect, most likely one that excelled in the beast taming/summoner lineage. Our analysis shows that it is a test site meant to select disciples. The Hunters Bureau has decided to open the site to the public. The portals will be activated on the 4th of December. Please click the link below to register: https://www.associationofhunters.com/public/legacysites Participants will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis, as we are unsure how many people will be able to claim the rewards. It is suspected that the top legacies contain eggs of ancient mythical beasts. Silas¡¯s eyes lit up as he muttered, ¡°I was just thinking about finding a good beast, and with these eggs of ancient mythical beasts and my grimoire, I should be unstoppable, right? Moreover, the Star Fruit will soon give birth to a Star Wolf. Nina was excited about it, so it shouldn¡¯t be that bad compared to those ancient beast eggs, right?¡± Silas was tempted but decided to check the Hunters Forum first¡ªhe didn¡¯t want to get scammed by clicking random links. Phishing was a real issue these days. Inside the Hunter Association webpage, a pop-up appeared on the homepage, mentioning the legacy site and prompting users to register. After browsing the forum, Silas concluded that it was probably legitimate, especially since all major countries had announced the same event. ¡°Is this a joint operation? And only people below Gold rank can enter the site?¡± Silas pondered. ¡°That must be because younger ones are easier to mold compared to those already at Gold rank.¡± Without wasting time, he quickly registered on the website. He then decided to return to the monster world immediately¡ªhe needed to forge a grimoire and hatch the Star Wolf first. Only then would he have a better chance of obtaining the egg of a mythical beast. ¡°Nina, what were you saying?¡± Silas asked as he returned from his short trip. Nina rolled her eyes. ¡°Young Master, you were mentioning increasing my pay, considering my exceptional performance.¡± Silas: ¡ ¡°Are you not satisfied with 20%?¡± Silas rolled his eyes. If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. As the two chatted, a huge shadow suddenly loomed over them. Silas slowly turned his head, stiffly muttering, ¡°Damn it, the collection agent is back.¡± The centipede spoke in a feminine voice, ¡°Good lad. Looks like you cleared the dungeon even sooner than I expected.¡± Silas could only smile stiffly. The centipede extended one of its claws toward him. Silas: ¡ Grumbling internally, Silas reluctantly handed over the two hundred Nether Stones. After taking the Nether Stones, the centipede gave him a location in case he wanted to find her. She also reminded him not to cause any more trouble before quickly leaving, seemingly in a hurry. Silas looked around, lost in thought. The first thing he needed was a good residence. The second was completing all his elemental affinities. With his current progress rate, Silas estimated it could take him a century¡ªafter all, it was incredibly rare to come across anything that granted rare affinities. He hadn¡¯t even encountered the Time and Space affinity fruits yet. ¡°Do they even exist?¡± he muttered. ¡°Nina, do you know anything about fruits that grant affinities?¡± Nina: ¡ ¡°Young Master, as far as I know, there are treasures that can increase affinities, but I¡¯m not sure if something can outright grant them. For example,¡± she pointed toward a blue berry plant in the distance, ¡°those Frostbite Berries are said to help people with frost affinities, but they¡¯re considered low-level natural treasures. Eating them slightly increases affinity for those with ice affinity. ¡°There are rarer natural treasures to boost ice affinity¡ªlike the essence blood of an Ice Phoenix, Ice Spirit Liquid, or the Heart of Ice. But they¡¯re all incredibly valuable.¡± Silas: ¡ Damn it. Looks like I underestimated the bloodline power of a Nyxian. From what he had gathered, he¡¯d really lucked out. Now, he was certain it wasn¡¯t possible for people to acquire elemental affinities simply by eating natural treasures. Affinities were randomly formed upon reaching Bronze rank. Even consuming precious natural treasures would only slightly strengthen an existing affinity, helping to learn skills faster, but it wouldn¡¯t grant an elemental heart. To be honest, at one point, Silas had thought the beasts of this world were incredibly lucky¡ªthey could awaken their elemental hearts just by eating roadside fruits. He had even dreamed of becoming a wholesale trader, using his inventory to harvest these fruits and sell them in the human world for exorb¡ª ahem¡ªfor an affordable price to strengthen humanity. But even if these fruits were helpful, their effects were too negligible. If he started selling them, he¡¯d look like a scammer. With his remaining Nether Stones, Silas swiftly navigated to the Daily Essentials section while discreetly hiding the panel from Nina. Click¡ª Purchase. Silas casually bought a makeshift expandable mansion for 30 Nether Stones. ¡°Huh¡ these are actually pretty affordable¡ª¡± Fuck. Each Nether Stone was equivalent to hundreds of Bronze-ranked monster corpses. He had just spent a hefty sum¡ for a condo. But after reading the description, he let out a sigh of relief. The materials used were worthy of the price¡ªit could withstand attacks from Silver-tiered beasts with ease. Chapter 28: Dwarven tavern With the leftover 200 stones, Silas pondered his options. If skill books were affordable, he might have considered getting one. But damn¡ªwhen he searched the store, his jaw nearly hit the floor. Not all skill books were the same. A Fireball skill book was obviously of lower value compared to something like Armageddon, which allowed the user to summon a meteor. Even if both had high growth potential, a meteor would always be more powerful than a fireball of the same level and size. A skill like Armageddon would naturally cause far more destruction than a fireball of a similar tier. But even a Fireball skill book cost a whopping 1 million universal points! Silas, who had slaughtered thousands of iron- and bronze-ranked monsters, had only managed to gather around 40,000 points. He had completely cleared an entire dungeon, yet he still couldn¡¯t afford a basic spell like Fireball. Meanwhile, high-tier skills like Armageddon were priced at a staggering 30 million points. And that wasn¡¯t even the worst part. Simply obtaining a skill book wasn¡¯t enough. One had to continuously train, improving their proficiency to unlock the skill¡¯s full potential. Mastering a skill was a long and arduous process. Sighing, Silas muttered, ¡°Alright, let¡¯s check the price of a healing skill.¡± Obtaining a skill book was so rare that some hunters wouldn¡¯t even find one after killing tens of thousands of monsters. The only reason he had been able to farm so many was due to the overwhelming strength of his Nyxian body. Most hunters could take months just to clear a single dungeon alone. Even if someone farmed dungeons day and night, it might take them years to obtain a single skill book¡ªif they were unlucky. Still, he couldn¡¯t complain. At least skill books could be purchased with universal points here in the shop. Back in the human world, that option didn¡¯t even exist. The number of healers in the entire world could probably be counted on one hand, and each one was treated as a national treasure. Heal - 150,000,000 universal points. Silas stumbled backward. ¡°150 what?! How many zeroes is that¡?¡± He checked again. ¡°¡Damn it! 150 million points for a healing skill? Why don¡¯t you just rob people instead¡ªwait¡ why am I complaining? I¡¯m the one who lucked out.¡± Silas sighed and made a mental note to build a memorial for the Giant Arachnite. Hell, he¡¯d even be willing to be their ambassador at this point. ¡°Young master, what¡¯s with that expression?¡± Nina asked, tilting her head. ¡°You look so weird¡ I didn¡¯t know a person¡¯s face could show so many expressions and colors at once.¡± Silas: ¡ ¡°Just wait until I get a transformation skill, little lass¡¡± Silas muttered. ¡°These hands were not made to deal with you.¡± Nina¡¯s eyes widened, and she immediately dove into his mane, mumbling, ¡°Young master always tries to bully me¡¡± This story has been unlawfully obtained without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. Silas shook his head as he rubbed his paws together. ¡°Nothing beats a good spanking.¡± Nina, who had just peeked out from his mane, slowly slid back inside as if she hadn¡¯t heard anything. At least transformation skills were affordable¡ªonly 2.5 million points¡ Affordable? Well, relatively speaking. Thinking back to the Shadow Terror, Silas couldn¡¯t help but wonder what skills it had. That thing had been able to seamlessly slip in and out of shadows¡ªan assassin¡¯s dream skill. Too bad he hadn¡¯t been able to obtain it. As he continued browsing, Silas discovered a selection of natural treasures that could enhance elemental affinities. His heart leaped with excitement¡ªfinding treasures that granted affinities was getting harder and harder. He had almost given up on acquiring the time and space affinities, but to his surprise, the universal store even carried treasures for them. But why are they greyed out? Out of stock? Damn it. As Silas was grumbling to himself, a new item suddenly appeared. [Ripple of Time] ¨C An image of a water droplet appeared on the screen. Ripple of Time ¨C A drop from the River of Time, containing the essence of the laws of time. Cost: 40,000 Universal Points. Silas didn¡¯t hesitate for a second. That was all the points he had, but¡ªPurchase. A small glass bottle appeared in his inventory. [Ripple of Time x1] Without a second thought, Silas gulped it down in one go. [Consumed Ripple of Time. Obtained 1 Time Elemental Affinity.] Silas breathed a sigh of relief. One point¡ acceptable. He would have been heartbroken if it had only given him 0.1 affinity points. So, 4 million points just to reach 100% in Time Affinity? It was expensive, but others wouldn¡¯t even get such an opportunity in the first place. ¡°I should find a place with a lot of dungeons and just camp there¡¡± Silas thought. At one point, he had started to doubt whether he could truly acquire all affinities. Sure, he had unlimited time, but finding the necessary resources was an entirely different challenge. He might not run out of lifespan, but the mental exhaustion of constantly searching for treasures could still break him. But now, with the system store, at least he had a possibility. Silas paused and looked up at the sky. ¡°How many years will this take¡? Can I even find enough dungeons to clear?¡± Pushing that thought aside, he shifted his focus. ¡°First, I need to forge a grimoire. Or find someone who can do it for me.¡± Silas scrolled through the Craftsman section and navigated to the Grimoire subsection. As soon as he clicked, a flashy pop-up appeared. Bright, colorful lights flashed across the screen, showcasing an array of ornate grimoires. A short, stout dwarf swung a hammer in the corner of the advertisement. [20% Discount at the Dwarven Tavern for the Dwarven New Year! Offer ends in 1 day. Priority given to first-come, first-serve customers!] Silas stared at the screen. ¡°¡Ads?¡± He never expected to see advertisements popping up in the system panel. ¡°Should I install an ad blocker? Or do I have to pay a subscription fee?¡± he muttered. Then he sighed. ¡°Well, guess I¡¯m heading to the Dwarven Tavern.¡± Another notification appeared. [Would you like to enter the Dwarven Tavern?] Silas hesitated. He had assumed it was just an online storefront or video conference¡ but this was an actual teleportation option. How advanced are the people who built this system? Back in the human world, even with the emergence of mana, teleportation was still considered a myth. Silas pressed [Yes]. Chapter 29: Sing and be merry A loud, bustling noise filled the air as Silas found himself standing in a lively marketplace. He glanced down at his hands¡ªshort, thick, and covered in callouses. Did I turn into a dwarf? Amused, he looked around. The tavern was full of life. Dwarves sat at long wooden tables, gripping massive jugs of ale, while a group of dwarven women sang merrily in the center of the hall. On one side, blacksmiths wielding hammers as tall as themselves pounded rhythmically on anvils, their strikes ringing like drumbeats. The clang of metal blended seamlessly with the singers¡¯ voices, creating a mesmerizing harmony.
For stone and steel, we are the kings The world will shake under our mighty swings Hammer and anvil, our closest kin, But ale and rum¡ªwe¡¯ll drink them in! One toast to the brave, Another toast to the dead below! Fill your cups, march to the drum¡ª The mighty dwarven legion is coming for your rum!
"Aww, the famous Dwarven Tavern!" Nina¡¯s excited voice chimed as she floated around Silas. "I never thought I''d get to visit this place in my lifetime!" The whole tavern roared with cheer. Some dwarves sang, others swung their cups left and right, sloshing ale onto the floor. Even Silas felt his exhaustion fade. For a moment, all the battles and killings he''d experienced seemed to disappear. The sheer energy of the place made him want to join in, to sing and drink alongside them. But he had business to take care of. At the far end of the tavern, he spotted a counter where a dwarven woman stood beneath a wooden sign labeled Reception. "Miss, I¡¯d like to forge a grimoire," Silas said as he approached. "I saw the advertisement about a 20% discount¡ªdo I need to book an appointment?" The receptionist''s eyes lit up. A big customer! "You''re in luck, sir! The discount ends today. Normally, forging a grimoire for the first time costs 100,000 universal points, but with the discount, it¡¯ll be just 80,000." She leaned forward slightly, lowering her voice. "The high price comes from the rare resources needed to forge a first-time grimoire, but the cost includes all materials, and such discount I bet no one will be able to provide" "It''ll take a week to complete. You can either pay in advance or when you pick it up," she continued. "Also, if you''re interested in weapons, we have a showroom just across the hall where you can browse or commission custom work." Silas nodded. That suited him just fine. He signed the contract and deposited the dungeon core. As for the remaining 80,000 points¡ two dungeon clears would be enough to cover it. This novel''s true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there. Turning his attention to Nina, he wondered what she was up to¡ª On the other side of the tavern, four pixies sat around a massive table, each with a comically large jug of ale, big enough to drown them. One of them, her face flushed red, hiccuped intermittently. "You know¡ hicc¡ young master just jumped¡ªso high! Hic¡ªhe pulled out his spear and¡ªhic¡ªhe was so massive, the whole dungeon shook! BOOM!" Nina reenacted dramatically, nearly toppling over. The other pixies leaned in, listening with wide eyes. "And then¡ the spider monster got scared¡ªit tried to run underground! But I was there! Hic! I pulled out my bow¡ªhic¡ªand nailed it to the ground! Helped young master kill it! He was so impressed, he¡ he even shared his profit with me! You know¡ 15%!" A stunned silence followed. The other pixies¡¯ jaws dropped. Their basic pay? 100 universal points per year. A 5% increase annually. "You know," Nina added with a smug grin, "young master even promised to buy me a house!" A sharp intake of breath. A house? That was beyond extravagant! They turned to glance at their own masters¡ªwho were currently locked in a heated argument with a shopkeeper, desperately haggling over a measly five nether stones. Some pixies felt their eyes turn green with envy. Meanwhile, Nina stood tall, hands on her hips, nose held high, proudly basking in their admiration. At some point, she even stood on the table to reenact her "glorious" battle. Silas, listening from the corner, could only roll his eyes. You asked for a room, and now it¡¯s a whole mansion? And pinning the spider down? Helping him kill it? Yeah, right. Still, seeing her happily showing off, he decided to let her be. She¡¯d automatically teleport back with him when he left anyway. No harm in letting her have her fun. With that settled, he turned toward the weapon showroom. He had heard that they accepted nether stones as payment, and he had a decent amount stockpiled. This was a rare chance to get a legendary dwarven weapon. The exchange rate of nether stones to universal points was 100 points per stone. However, no one ever exchanged points for nether stones¡ªuniversal points were far more valuable. As Silas walked toward the showroom, he suddenly sensed something. From the corner of her eye, Nina spotted him moving. Young master is trying to sneak off without me?! Completely forgetting that she had been the one ignoring him while bragging, she immediately shot up. "Okay, guys! Looks like my young master is done with his business. I¡¯ll be heading out now!" Nina waved at the other pixies. "Tell my mom and dad not to worry¡ªI¡¯m doing great!" With that, she fluttered off after Silas. "Riyu, do you think Nina was telling the truth?" one of the pixies whispered. Riyu hesitated. "Maybe¡ who knows? Good for her, I guess." "But it¡¯s only been a few days! So lucky¡" Reeza tugged at Riyu¡¯s sleeve. "Come on, let¡¯s follow them! Our masters are still arguing, and we¡¯re bored anyway. Let¡¯s see what they¡¯re buying!" With that, the two pixies quietly slipped after Silas and Nina, curiosity sparkling in their eyes. Nina, meanwhile, finally caught up, pouting. "Young master! You forgot me and went shopping alone!" She crossed her arms, puffing out her cheeks in mock anger. Silas sighed. "I didn''t forget you. You were too busy bragging about your ¡®great accomplishments.¡¯" Nina huffed. "Well, I was telling the truth!" Silas raised an eyebrow. "Oh, about how you pinned down the spider?" Nina¡¯s face turned slightly red. "Ahem! Let¡¯s focus on weapons, young master!" Silas smirked but let it slide. "Fine. Let¡¯s go." And with that, the two of them stepped into the legendary dwarven weapon showroom.
