《Harry and Jaqueline Potter: Opposites of the Hall》 Prologue It was the day of the twins'' fifteenth birthday, and they were walking back inside after a long walk around the neighborhood. When they got inside, they were immediately bombarded with questions from their aunt. "And where the ruddy hell have you two been all day! Not that I care, but if you''re going to go missing for eight and a half hours straight, at least leave a note. And Jaqueline, what have I told you about wearing those ghastly boots everywhere? It''s summer! There''s no reason to wear boots in the hottest summer in three years!" Jaqueline looked down at her boots, moving her hair out of her face with her tattooed and ring covered hands. It''s not like I''m trying to anger her, but my boots are the only shoes I have that aren''t broken anymore. And also, if we left a note, you''d rip it up and set our bags outside the front door anyways. She thought "Go freshen up, dinner is in five minutes, and we have a guest coming over. That lovely Ms. Figg has agreed to come over! Mind, it''s to celebrate your birthday, but still, she knows not your filthy little secret, best not enlighten her, shall we?" Jaqueline and Harry tried not to laugh at this. Ms. Figg has been teaching them magic since they were eleven and the Dursleys began sending them to her all school year to keep them away from Hogwarts. Ms. Figg finally got permission from Dumbledore to send them to Hogwarts a week before, and they''d gotten their school supplies that day, now they just had to wait till September the first, when they''d board the Hogwarts Express, which they''d known how to get to for years. Ms. Figg was a Squib, so she couldn''t demonstrate magic, but she could teach it exceptionally well. As they walked up to their bedroom, the twins excitedly whispered about how fun it''d be to learn magic at a magical castle. "I want to see the stars, just lay down outside, and stare at the stars until I fall asleep. I bet the stars look so much cooler there. I bet everything is cooler there." She said dreamily as they entered their room. "I just want to play Quidditch. Seeker specifically." Harry replied. After dinner, the twins went back to bed, now upset that they still had an entire month until school started... This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. The Surprising Sorting On September the first, the twins got up extra early to head to Kings Cross Station with Ms. Figg. When they got there, they casually slid through the barrier between platforms nine and ten. When they got through, they saw the Hogwarts Express, bright scarlet in the morning light. The twins looked excitedly at each other. "This is it, Harry! We''re going to Hogwarts today! This is going to be the best year of our entire lives!" Jaqui squealed excitedly. "Yeah, I know. I can''t wait till we get Sorted. I''m gonna be in Gryffindor, just like mom and dad." "And I''ll be in Ravenclaw where intelligence intellectual ability, creativity, originality, wit, humor, wisdom, intuition, cleverness and quick thinking are most prized ''In wise old Ravenclaw, if you have a ready mind, where those of witty mind and learning, Will always find their kind.'' Wit beyond measure is man''s greatest treasure!" The twins boarded the Hogwarts Express after saying goodbye to Ms. Figg. They found a compartment near the back of the train, avoiding the stares from other students. When they got to it, however, Jaqui was stopped by a fifth year Slytherin. "Hey, I''m Mattheo Riddle, wanna join me and my mates in our compartment?" He asked. She knew she should say no, because he was a Slytherin, and the son of the man who killed her parents, but Ms. Figg had always told her "Never, ever judge a potion by its ingredients." Which meant that she couldn''t judge someone based on their ancestry, or the color of their robes. Harry wouldn''t like this, but he''d get over it soon enough. "Sure, why not. You don''t mind do you Harry?" She looked at her brother pleadingly. ''No, I suppose not." He said, giving her a "We''ll talk about this later" look. After Harry entered his own compartment, Jaqui followed Mattheo into his compartment. When they entered, there were five other people inside. Jaqui sat in the open seat nearest the window. "Jaqueline, these are my mates, Draco Malfoy," He pointed to a pale boy with white, blond hair. " Lorenzo ''Enzo'' Berkshire," he pointed to a boy with crisp brown hair and a nice smile. "Theodore ''Teddy'' or ''Ted'' Nott," he pointed to a boy with messy hair and freckles. "And my big brother, Tom Jr.." He pointed to a boy with hair the same shade of black as his, with a nasty smile on his face. "Pansy''s right across from you, she''ll be sleeping until we get there. Guys, this is Jaqueline Potter." Everyone greeted her. "It''s just Jaqui. No one calls me Jaqueline but my aunt and Uncle." She replied. "Okay then. Jaqui, nice tattoos, who did them?" Draco asked. "I did them myself, I drew them on paper, then did some magic to put them onto my skin." She replied cooly. "Cool. So, what''s the hottest element known to man?" "Well, the hottest objects in the universe are believed to be the cores of stars, particularly during their final stages of life. The core of a massive star during its supernova phase can reach temperatures of around 100 billion Kelvin (100 billion degrees Celsius, or 180 billion degrees Fahrenheit)." She responded immediately. "Wow! Cool and smart. Definitely a Ravenclaw. Where have you been all my life?" Mattheo joked. "Meh, I''ve been around. Learning magic, walking around, drawing, writing. That sort of thing." She responded seriously. Just then the train began to move, and Jaqui looked out the window and waved her last goodbye to Ms. Figg for the year. Love this story? "You hungry sweety?" She''d asked Jaqui both times, and both times Jaqui said no. She was too busy thinking about her Housing arrangement. I can''t believe I''m thinking this, but maybe getting into Slytherin wouldn''t be so bad. I could break the cycle of evil doers that came out of there. "We''re almost there, Jaqui, you''d better get ready, you''ll be Sorted right after all the first years, so you can''t join us at the Slytherin table, unless of course you get into Slytherin." Tom said teasingly. "Tom, don''t be a jerk! She can sit with us anytime even if she''s not Slytherin. I''ve grown to like her." Draco replied. This surprised Jaqui. She thought Draco was a spoiled, arrogant, and prejudiced character. Knowing that he comes from a wealthy pure-blood wizarding family and is raised with the belief that those without magical abilities are inferior, especially Muggle-borns and half-bloods. * * * "Potter, Harry!" Professor McGonagall yelled. Silence, and then.... "GRYFFINDOR!" the Sorting Hat shouted as Harry got up and sat at the Gryffindor table. "Potter, Jaqueline". Jaqui walked over to the Sorting Hat, her breath heavy, and her palms sweaty. She sat down, placing the Sorting Hat on her head as she did so. "Ah, a Potter through and through, with a heart for bravery and a mind sharp as a tack. You have the courage of a lion, the wit of a Ravenclaw, and a loyalty that speaks of Hufflepuff. Yet, there is a cunning within you, a desire to prove your worth beyond your famous name. You seek your own path, your own light. For that, Slytherin calls. There you will find those of ambition and shrewdness, those who value cunning as much as courage. In Slytherin, you will learn to master your own destiny. Yes, so to reveal the powerful witch within, better be... SLYTHERIN!" It screamed the last word out to the entire Great Hall. She took it off, and looked for Harry, when she caught his eye, her heart dropped for a second. He looked absolutely furious. Then she realized that the Sorting Hat was right, she did want to find her own path, and that started here. as a Slytherin. So, even though it pained her, she put her mind to the Slytherin table, where they were either frozen in shock -like most of the Great Hall- or cheering loudly, Mattheo among them. As she sat down, she felt all eyes on her, and it made her sick. "Don''t worry Jax, you''ll get used to the stares and the whispers, or they''ll die down, but for now, you''ve been initiated into the Shadow Society." Mattheo said reassuringly. "Thanks, Theo." She said, oblivious to the fact that he was now blushing. "I hope you''re right." After dinner, she headed to the common room, and went to bed, her roommate being Pansy. A Slytherins Dilemma Mattheo went to his own dorm after wishing good dreams to everyone. He didn''t go to sleep immediately after entering, instead he took a shower and brushed his teeth and then went to bed. He fell asleep fairly quickly. "Theo!" He turned around, recognizing the voice immediately. "Jax? What are you doing?" He asked, slightly confused. She was getting closer and closer to a majestic looking tiger. "This tiger walked up to me! Isn''t it so cool, it''s not even trying to hurt me! Come see!" She squealed happily. He smiled warmly as he walked up to the tiger and pet it himself, it felt soft underneath his skin, especially in the warmth of the setting sun. "Aren''t you glad we decided to go on an adventure together this summer?" Jax said happily. "Yeah, I am." He spoke. I really am! He thought. The dream changed. He was running in a field of Nightshades in the morning sunlight. Jax was running away from him, giggling. As she stopped running, she turned to face him and smiled, her bright green eyes shining in the sunlight. The dream changed again, this time he was on his broom, leaving Hogwarts, his father and brother, and everything that eve caused him sadness behind, with his friends in front of him, happily racing each other and doing loop-de-loops in the air, Jax was the most visible, her long hair was glistening in the moonlight. The dream changed again. "Daddy!" a little girl with his smile and Jax''s eyes ran up to him and hugged his legs. "Daddy! I lost a tooth at school today! And mommy says the tooth fairy''s gonna bring me three galleons! Is she right?! Is she?!" the little girl squealed with excitement. "Yes, sweety, she''s right." He smiled. The little girl gasped with glee. "I knew it. James owes me soooooo much candy! Just wait till he gets back from his fifth year at Hogwarts next month! I''m gonna get him!" And with that, she ran off. Immediately afterwards, Mattheo woke up. NO! This cannot happen! I cannot be in love with a Potter! My father has forbidden it! He thought. After taking some time to think, Mattheo decided to ignore his father''s wishes, and be with Jax. After the dreams I just had, how can I do anything else? Knowing that that life is possible for me. And with that, he got dressed and headed down to the common room. When he got there, he saw Jax laughing. It sounded like a beautiful song to him and made him happy. Until he walked closer in her direction and saw that she was talking and laughing with Draco, who had apparently just told her a joke. Mattheo''s heart began beating quickly, he felt furious, jealous more so. Jax said good morning to him, but by the time she did, he was already halfway out of the commons and heading to breakfast. If I were to paint a masterpiece, it would be of you. Your eyes, that sparkling emerald green, would be the most vibrant jewel. Your smile, a masterpiece of sunlight and warmth. And your laughter, a symphony that could brighten even the darkest night. You''re a work of art, Jaqui, and I''m lucky enough to be able to admire you." Draco said. Jaqui laughed heartily. "Aww! Thanks, Dray! OH! Good morning, Theo!" She said smiling. Mattheo either ignored her or he didn''t hear her, because he stormed out of the commons angrily. "I wonder what''s up with him." She said curiously. "Mattheo? He''s... well, he''s a bit of an odd one. Always moping around, acting like he''s so mysterious and deep. He''s got this weird obsession with the dark arts, always talking about shadows and secrets. I wouldn''t be surprised if he''s got a hidden dark mark somewhere. You know, just like his father. He''s always trying to act all superior, like he''s better than everyone else. I wouldn''t trust him if I were you, Jaqui." Jaqui was hurt at what Draco said about Mattheo, but before she could say anything, she realized that she was hungry, so she headed to breakfast. "Dray, meet me in the common room this evening, we need to talk." She said before she left. In the Great Hall, Jaqui sat down next to Mattheo. "Good morning Matty! How''d you sleep?" She said happily. "Great! Leave me alone please," he said coldly before walking away. * * * Draco was waiting for her in the common room after Divination. She took a deep breath when she got to him. "Dray, we need to talk." He smirked, "Oh, is it about that little friend of yours, Mattheo? The creepy little thing who''s always lurking in the shadows?" Jaqui''s face turned red. "Don''t you dare talk about him like that! He''s a great guy, and I care about him a lot." "Oh, is that so? Maybe you should tell him how you feel. I''m sure he''d be thrilled to know that you''re crushing on him." He replied smugly. "You know, I''m starting to think you''re just jealous. You''ve been trying to flirt with me for months, but I''m not interested." "Oh, come on, don''t be so hard on yourself. I was just having a bit of fun." Jaqui began yelling, "Fun?! You''re being a total jerk! You''ve been talking bad about Mattheo for months, and it''s not fair. He''s a good person, and he doesn''t deserve your treatment." "Oh, please. You''re just trying to defend your little friend. You know, you''re a Potter. You''re always going to be loyal to your own kind." Mattheo suddenly came out of nowhere "That''s enough, Draco. You''re being a complete ass." "Mattheo? What are you doing here?" Draco asked surprisingly. "I heard you talking about Jaqui. And I won''t stand for it. You''re a complete jerk, and you need to apologize." Mattheo said, his face growing redder by the second. "I was just joking around." Draco said. Mattheo punched Draco, knocking him to the ground. "Jokes aren''t funny when they''re hurtful." "Stop it! Both of you!" Jaqui yelled. "I''m sorry, Jax. I didn''t mean to get violent." Mattheo said sympathetically. "It''s okay. I understand." She smiled. Draco rubbed his face and yelled, "You''re both crazy." "I think it''s time we left." Jaqui suggested. Mattheo agreed. "Let''s go." As they left, Mattheo turned back to Draco and says, "You''re a real piece of work." "Whatever." Draco said. Mattheo and Jaqui walked up to their favorite hangout spot: the Astronomy Tower. "I''m so sorry about that. I shouldn''t have lost my temper." Theo said. "It''s okay. I understand." "Jax, I... I think I''m falling for you." He said nervously. "Really?" She replied disbelievingly. "Yeah. I''ve been trying to deny it, but I can''t anymore." He said warmly. "I feel the same way." Jaqui said, and then she acted on a choice she didn''t know she wanted to make, and she quickly grabbed his face and kissed him with so much passion that they both staggered a bit when they finally let go. Then, Mattheo picked Jaqui up, carried her to his dorm room, and they began to kiss each other all over the place, five minutes later, their clothes were on the floor, and they were on Mattheo''s bed, having passionate sex. The next thing they knew, it was the next morning, and they were spooning. Enjoying the story? Show your support by reading it on the official site. Anger and Ignorance The next morning, Harry woke up feeling the same way he''d been feeling for the past three months; drained, angry, confused, and yet happy all at once. He got up and showered before meeting Ron and Hermione in the Gryffindor common room. Hermione was reading a book about some kind of advanced potions that Harry couldn''t even pronounce, and Ron was trying to get Scabbers to eat something. "Morning, you two." Harry said with a big yawn. They both look up at him. "Morning, mate. You look like a right mess you do." Ron said with a smirk. Hermione scoffed at him and rolled her eyes before returning her attention to Harry. "Good morning, Harry. How are you feeling? You seem a little...drowsy this morning. More so than usual, I mean." She asked, a look of concern on her face. Harry laughed humorlessly. "Yeah, I''m fine. I just have the weirdest feeling that something bad''s about to or already has happened. It kept me up most of the night." He said, crashing onto one of the comfy chairs near the fireplace. "I''m glad it''s the weekend though. We can go visit Hagrid all day if we want to. And maybe I can practice some Quidditch." He said. Hermione and Ron exchange glances before Hermione speaks up. "Er, Harry. Have you looked outside at all in the past week?" She asked, weary of his response. "No, why?" He stands up and looks out the window, dread, anger and sadness immediately clouding his emotions. Outside, the ground is completely covered with snow, signaling that it''s too cold to play Quidditch, and maybe even too cold to even go visit Hagrid. He sighs. "Well, I guess we better just do all of our homework after breakfast in here, then." He said with a slight frown. "Why not go into the library? It''s going to be much quieter-" Harry cuts Hermione off. "No, not there. There''s too much of a risk that Jaqui and her little band of criminals are going to be in there. And her and I really aren''t on speaking terms at the moment." Hermione sighs with frustration. "Oh, honestly. You two haven''t so much as glared at each other since she became a Slytherin, three months ago! I mean come on Harry; she''s your twin sister! And you two act like you don''t even know each other!" Suddenly, Neville Longbottom walks in. "Whass all the bloody yellin'' about? I''m trying to calm down me toad." He said tiredly. "Sorry, Neville. Harry''s just ignoring Jaqui and he won''t listen to reason." Hermione explained. Neville looked at the three of them with curiosity. "Yeah, I know. Jaqui and I are quite close friends, actually. She says that as long as Harry hates her just for where she''s been Sorted, she sees no reason to bother acknowledging his existence, since she knows how stubborn he can be. Her words, not mine." Hermione knew that Jaqui was right was right, Harry had no real reason to hate her right now. But she also knew that Harry was as stubborn as a poltergeist at a carnival. He was determined to hate his sister, for some reason or another. "Let''s all go to breakfast, yeah? Won''t kill us to have breakfast before we work." She suggests. Harry, Ron and Neville agreed to go to breakfast, getting into their daytime robes before they do. As they enter the Great Hall, Harry freezes. "What the bloody HELL?!" Hermione, Ron, and Neville looked where Harry was looking, and everyone''s jaw dropped but Hermione''s. There, sitting at the Slytherin table, like a King worshipping his Queen, with his hands draped around Jaqui, kissing her, kissing Harry''s sister Jaqui, was none other than the youngest son of Voldemort himself, Mattheo Riddle. How dare he?! How dare he seduce Jaqui like this?! And how dare Jaqui let him get that close to her, after everything? Harry''s blood boiled. Now I have a reason to hate her. She''s dating the youngest son of the man who killed our parents! Hermione walked over to Jaqui and greeted her and Mattheo, excited that the two lovebirds finally united. Harry, Ron and Neville look at her with confusion. When she returns to them, seeing the confusion on their faces, she sighs. "Must I always be the one who notices things? Those two have been flirting with each other for months! It was only a matter of time before something like this happened. Besides, I trust Jaqui. If Mattheo messes up, he''ll regret it. But something tells me that he won''t." Harry rolled his eyes as the three Gryffindors sat down for breakfast. Neville leaned over to the Slytherin table and tapped Jaqui''s shoulder. "Morning, Jaqui. You two look cozy. I support this fully, but seriously mate," he looked Mattheo dead in the eyes. "If you hurt her, if there''s anything left of you after she''s done with you, you''ll have to answer to me, she''s taught me a few curses that I''ve been wanting to test out." He turned his attention back to the Gryffindor table, where Hermione was looking at him curiously and admirably. "What?" Neville shrugs. Hermione smiles. "You know, Neville. Since Jaqui arrived, you certainly have gotten a serious confidence boost. I''m glad to see how much you''ve grown in such a short time." Neville blushed, thanking her softly. Harry, however, was still brooding. Looking at his sister and her new lover with such disgust it was a wonder he wasn''t throwing up. "Seriously, Riddle, Mattheo Riddle, snogging my twin sister!" "Would you rather it was Tom?" Ron joked, receiving an elbow in the gut from Harry as he choked on his food. Hermione sighed. "This is going to be a long school year." Neville scoffed. "School year? It''s going to be a long term. I bet you fifteen galleons Harry''s gonna get detention for causing a scene by Christmas." At that, everyone, even Harry, laughed.
