《Ghostly Assassins》 Chapter - 1 Ghostly Assassins Kurayami goes on a mission to pay back his dues for the month for his assassin group, getting attacked suddenly, and taken in by some Ghosts, who examine him. Waking up in what seems to be an underground base, he realizes they aren''t human, something more supernatural. They want to know what is making humans so strong, and on par with Ghost. He realizes the situation. He thinks "I need to get out of here. I don''t want to deal with these creatures." Kurayami busts out of the chains rolling to his sword slashing down the 3 ghosts in the room with him Wiping the sweat off his face. Kurayami " What''s this looks like a piece of the ghost." Deciding to take it with him, he needs to take it back to the hideout, to show the others. Walking back to the hideout, he wonders what powers these things have, and what could have happened to him. (The Hideout) Kurayami " Yo " Nobody''s there, it''s like a ghost town, now having to call the boss. Ring Ring, the Boss answers happily. Boss " Hello, Kurayami, what do you want to talk about?" Kurayami " Boss! I just fought these creatures." Boss " Send me a picture." He sends the picture of the ghost. Boss gasps " Woah, that''s a ghost." " They''re back," he whispers under his breath, Kurayami couldn''t hear. Kurayami " Ghosts! REAL GHOSTS" Boss " Stay alert, it looks to be a lower-class ghost, since you took them out." Kurayami " I can''t do this." Boss " I have to go now. You can''t leave; I''ll pay extra for ghost pieces." He hangs up. Kurayami needs a break; he goes to the bar. He meet''s an older guy with scars and only one eye, a girl also shows up sitting next to him. Old man " Kid you can''t be here." Kurayami " Don''t talk to me, I''m tired old man." Old man sighs " Talk to me, kid." Kurayami puts his head up, " I need money this month, you see this ghost piece there worth a lot I guess." The old guy sees this, trying to open his closed eye. Old man " Don''t we all need money?" he laughs. He gets up and leaves, Kurayami watching his back, as the old guy is acting suspicious, the girl next to him also seemed to have left, while they were talking. Kurayami remembers he has to take care of his sister, after his parents got killed, he can''t quit this life. As he leaves the bar, the girl is standing outside waiting for him. Girl says, " I''m part of 1 of the 3 biggest assassin groups, I know things about you." Deciding not to speak, he runs for it. She chases after him in a downtown chase, He gets away and sits on a building. Kurayami knows the girl is after the ghost information, he doesn''t want it out yet, so he can make the most money off of it. He sleeps on the building until morning. Ring Ring Boss, "You awake, Yami." Kurayami "Yeah, sorry what''s up." Boss "You''re getting a partner; we can''t afford you getting caught." Kurayami sends his location "Send him here." Boss "Alright, Bye" " I don''t need a partner," he groans (1 hour later) Shoi (22 years old) " Nice to work with you." Kurayami " Yo " Shoi amazed "You''re awesome for a 1st year, you''re known." Kurayami ignoring the question, " Quick question, do you know anything about the 3 organizations?" Shoi scratches his chin, "Yeah, it consists of Ryu Senko, Tsuki Hikari, and us Kamikage." Kurayami looks at the tattoo he got for joining the group. Shoi " That''s for knowing who''s who." Kurayami " Is that a ghost detector?" Shoi " Yeah, and it''s going off. Look out!" he yells Almost crushing Kurayami but dodging it due to the shadow it created. They both look up and see a massive giant skeleton. Kurayami''s eyes narrowed. "Stay sharp, Shoi. The skeleton ghost lunged at them with terrifying speed, its bony claws swiping through the air. Kurayami dodged to the side, drawing his blade in a fluid motion. Shoi followed suit, his weapon at the ready. Kurayami''s instincts kicked in, allowing him to predict the ghost''s next move. "Left!" he shouted, and both he and Shoi rolled to the right, narrowly avoiding the ghost''s attack. Shoi took advantage of the opening, slashing at the ghost''s leg. The ghost howled in pain, its skeletal structure cracking. Kurayami moved in, aiming for the head. His blade struck true, but the ghost wasn''t finished yet. It retaliated with a powerful swipe, sending Kurayami flying. Shoi rushed to his side. "You, okay?" "Yeah, just a scratch," Kurayami grunted, getting back on his feet. "We need to take it down, now." They coordinated their attacks, Kurayami using the immense training to guide Shoi. With a final, synchronized strike, they shattered the ghost''s skull, causing it to disintegrate into a cloud of dark mist. Breathing heavily, Kurayami looked at Shoi. "Nice work."You too," Shoi replied, a grin spreading across his face. "We''re going to make a great team." "Hey look," Shoi shouted, "They dropped some type of scroll." "Wonder what this is," Kurayami said, confused. "I know an old guy, maybe he''s back at the bar, he seemed to know a lot about these ghosts." "We should take it back to the boss," Shoi explained with a stressed face. Kurayami says, "We shouldn''t let people know until we understand what they are." Shoi desperately tries to convince him, but Kurayami picks the scroll up and heads back into the town of Shizuoka. Kurayami usually works alone, so making quick decisions is his strong suit, on the other hand, Shoi is scared and wondering what would happen if they would get caught. It''s already night, and they are taking a short cut through a back alley when something catches Shoi''s eye. Shoi gulps "Kuraya..." Kurayami cuts him off and grumbled "I don''t want to hear it" Shoi trembles over his own words "di-d-d you n-n-not s-s-see that" Kurayami annoyed "We just took down an ugly ass skeleton if you''re afraid of a mere shadow just quit now" Shoi remains quiet. Shoi is wondering what that was, he just moves on and goes with Kurayami''s plan. Kurayami decides to take a trip to the hideout to collect his reward, but not tell them about the scroll. The boss praised Kurayami and Shoi for taking out the ghost. "You know what this is?" Kurayami asks the boss chuckles "The bones? Of course, that''s the Soul Skeleton not much of a challenge for a big shot like you." "Here''s your reward kid. Don''t Spend it all in one place." "Make sure to bring me back anything you find." The boss explains. "Yeah, ok whatever see you again." Kurayami smiles. They leave and go out searching for the old man. Shoi frantically says "didn''t you hear him." Kurayami not listening. In his head he keeps replaying the boss''s words. "What''s going to happen if we don''t bring him everything?" you see a smirk out of him. They finally make it to the bar. "We should just find him and get out," Kurayami suggested. "Whatever you say," Shoi rolls his eyes. After all their struggles, the old man was nowhere to be found this time. Kurayami was shocked, "he''s usually here at this time, at least the last time I saw him." "Hey, where''s the old man today?" Kurayami says. "Haven''t seen him all day, he''s always in here, I can give you a location where he might be," "He''s always talking about it," the Bar bartender explains. They have a look at it and it''s not too far, they know they can make it before morning, so they head out. Kurayami throws up a peace sign heading out. It shows they are very close, and their ghost detector goes off, and they hear weird grunts and sword slashes coming from the place they need to go. Shoi "He..." Kurayami covers his mouth; it seems like he''s training on a lower-class ghost. A shuriken gets thrown, and Kurayami doesn''t react in time and gets nipped on the cheek. Old man "Found you." He sheaths his blade, "Stay sharp kid" he laughs. "I still got it." "It''s been years since the last invasion," he stated. "Old man, you know anything about this scroll?" Kurayami asks. "It dropped after we killed the Soul Skeleton." "Sit down, you kids, I''ve got a story to tell you," He gives them a seat. A little hesitant at first, and still sketched out, they take the seats and listen. "It''s been 41 years since the last invasion, which the assassins at the time held off, but they took all types of scrolls, for example, the Soul Skeleton infused the rare scroll with himself and got enhanced attributes. " Shoi interrupts "how many types of scrolls are there." "There''s plenty of scrolls that haven''t seen them all, but they can drop after killing the ghost. When it started as a normal invasion, it wasn''t that ghosts were just mindless creatures. They were once people with dreams and ambitions just like you." As the sun comes up, he gets up and leaves. Shoi asks "Where are you going?" The old man signals a drink, so they assume he''s going to the bar. "Yeah, classic old man" Kurayami smirks. Kurayami and Shoi split up for the day. They will continue their hunt at night. He realizes his revenge quest may have to be put on hold, because humans are losing the war against ghosts to uncover the truth of why they come to invade Earth. Chapter - 2 Stronger Ghosts Reside August 26th a couple days before his sister has to go back to school so Kurayami takes her shopping with the extra cash he¡¯s earned. Hoshi ¡°Brother I need uniforms and supplies for school¡± Kurayami smiles ¡°Ok whatever you want¡± Hoshi cheers ¡°Then can we get food after.¡± ¡°Sounds good to me¡± Kurayami laughs. They hit every shop in the mall, going from place to place, Kurayami enjoys seeing his sister happy. Kurayami asks, "So what food place to you want to hit?" "Uhm, how about Don''s Caf¨¦" Hoshi replies. Out of the corner of his eye, he sees the black figure Shoi was talking about, he doesn''t want to believe it. Especially during this time not with his sister. Only thing he can think about is keeping her protected, "sure" Kurayami replies. A random girl shows out of nowhere and starts to battle the figure in the alley. Kurayami realizes he needs to help her; he could barely take down the Soul Skeleton by himself, he didn''t want her to get hurt for some reason. He needs a way for her to stay safe, even though they went to a better area he still doesn''t think it''s safe to leave her. There''s no way for him to help, so he takes his sister home fast, "sorry we couldn''t go, I need to do something, love you" Kurayami wouldn''t make it back in time but caught a glimpse of her eyes and it reminded him of the girl at the bar. As the sun goes down, he gets back together with Shoi, and they go into a haunted place they got told to go to for the boss. Kurayami "this morning was crazy; I think I saw the black figure you were talking about" Shoi coughed "really that thing evil evil I could feel the aura" Kurayami "Some random girl took that thing on head on" Shoi responded "Oh yeah she''s got to be dead" Kurayami "Probably" He doesn''t know why he wanted to help her, but I guess we''ll never know. They walk around the mansion; the ghost detector is going off a little, but they don''t know what is causing it. Kurayami says, "meet back at the front doors in 10" Shoi replies "Got it" Every room is checked and is ready to go back to the front. Kurayami returns but Shoi is nowhere to be seen. The ghost detector is still going off, so he knows something happened. He checks the other side where Shoi was looking. As he was walking past a mirror, it grabbed and ate him, and he was taken to a different place. It''s a full world full of mirrors and only one is the actual ghost, this one seems pretty difficult. He looks around and finds Shoi looking at all the mirrors. Kurayami yells "What are you doing!" Shoi "I didn''t even think this type of thing existed." Kurayami " We got to find the right mirror and take him down" Shoi snaps out of it and they both unsheathe their swords. Both stand there menacingly waiting for the first attack. Kurayami feels the attack incoming from the back, "behind us" he yells. As they turn around, they get hit in the back with the reflecting light beams, which cuts their backs open. They get back up and shake it off as Kurayami gets up, he sees flying mirrors getting thrown at them. Both Dodge and Shoi takes one side and starts slashing mirrors, as for Kurayami he jumps on each flying mirror. Going to the source of where there coming out from and see''s the ghost inside the mirror, that''s manipulating the mirrors. Kurayami slashes the ghost, but he reappears in another mirror near Shoi. Kurayami "Shoi cut the ghost" "it''s making cracks in the mirror." He hits the ghost, "look another one," Shoi says It''s starting to lose its grip on reality and reflects multiple light beams. Cutting them up constantly, Shoi gets knocked down. "Focus on your senses and trust the blade" Shoi breathes heavily Kurayami listens, closes his eyes looking for the rhythm of the ghost''s movements. "FOCUS" he shouts He hits the closest mirror, and they all start to crack. leaving the mirror pieces to fade away. Kurayami goes to check on Shoi. Kurayami "Hey we did it" Shoi "Let''s go" Kurayami says "You''re not looking so hot, let''s get out of here and take you to the medic" Shoi "please do" A mirror appears and they walk through it taking them back to the mansion. Kurayami holding Shoi up all the way back to the hideout. They don''t even knock before Akui, a 11-yr old veteran, opens the door. "Hey Akui" Shoi smiles with 3 missing teeth. Akui points to the medic. Yukina "Wow, your banged up Shoi, even you Kurayami, what happened?" Kurayami "some mir..." Shoi interrupts "mirror" Yukina "So a mirror did this" Kurayami "he meant a ghost mirror." "Let''s get you treated," Yukina says. "Just give me some pills, it doesn''t hurt that bad." Yukina exhales "He''s going to be ok, just let him rest for tomorrow." Kurayami responds "Welp, I''ll see you" Yukina "tell your sister I said Hi" "Will do" as he walks out the door. Kurayami goes home the back-alley way. Something catches his eye, a girl that looks familiar and a guy that he''s never seen with her before. He ignores it but also remembers the fight that she had. He''s glad to see her alive, as he makes it back to his apartment. Kurayami hears a deadly scream inside, knowing only his sister is in there he pulls out a miniature sword, so his sister doesn''t see. He opens the door to see blood on the inside and runs to the screams. Inside his room is his sister looking in a box that somebody left with body parts and pictures of his parents. She''s traumatized, but he calms her down the best he can. He watches her sleep and then goes to look for a trace. The ghost detector goes off and he thinks she''s in trouble. He barges into her room only to see her having a nightmare, and a ghost called The Soul Eater feeding on her FEARS. Kurayami gets ready to attack, before the ghost notices him and fades into the wall. His sister then wakes up from the nightmare. Hoshi "Ahh, who are you" Kurayami "What, it''s me your brother?" Hoshi "Do I have a brother?" Kurayami "Of course we just went out and bought clothes, what happened to you" "Get out of our house," Hoshi yells. "Whose house, our parents are dead!" Kurayami Cried. When he says this, a loud noise from the living room goes off. It sounds like stuff being thrown around. He goes to check it out and it''s a whole mess. With a note on the coffee table, explaining - "Meet me in the Soul Woods, for her memory back." Kurayami leaves as fast as he can. "Dammit why now Shoi''s hurt I have to go no matter what" Kurayami Said. Akui steps out in front of him. "Looks like you''re going somewhere, kid, why are you in a rush?" Akui Asks. Kurayami "long story just let''s get going." Akui nods and he follows Kurayami. It''s not a long run as they make it there not long after. They make it in the forest, not knowing where to go. But they see signs leading them where he is. Looking up is just trees, no light, but they find a big open area. Where a mysterious person and the ghost Soul Eater are. "Hey, are you the one I''m looking for?" Kurayami yells "I''m afraid you are correct" Mysterious person They point their swords at him. "You should put those down; I can crush your sister''s memory at any time." Mysterious person say''s. Kurayami and Akui both say, "what''s your name." "My name is Mugen, and this is the Soul Ghost. "Ok who cares about that, why did you scare my sister with my fear." Kurayami says. Mugen laughs "I needed an excuse to use my power, and it could only be you." Kurayami confused "There''s other assassins that can do this" Mugen explains "You don''t know do you. You''ll figure out when you get there." "Here''s the place follow this and go in then open the safe and get the scroll." Mugen seriously explains "Don''t mess this up." Kurayami "I''ll do it, but one condition, I get my sisters memories back before I give you the scroll." Mugen Happily agrees they shake hands and Kurayami and Akui get going. "I wonder why he only wanted me to do it," Kurayami says. Akui "Do you remember going here in the past?" "doesn''t strike any memories." Kurayami responds. They have to climb up the mountain to get to this shack in the woods, that is run down. Finally, they make it, "looks like we''re here, doors already open." Akui says. They open the door and look around for the safe he wants them to open. As Kurayami is moving furniture around, the stairs down to the basement appear. They go down cobwebs hitting their face, moving things out of the way when they find the safe sitting in the corner. "Looks like it has fingerprint" Akui said. Kurayami remembers the time his dad took his and his sisters fingerprint the last time he seen him. Kurayami say''s "let me try it." It opens with a bright light and a scroll is inside. "This has to be it" Kurayami grabs it. They get out of the basement and leave the shack. "Watch out!" Akui screams, as 2 assassins trip Kurayami''s feet making him trip. Dropping the scroll and they watch it go flying on the floor. "A little help Akui I need that scroll don''t let them get away" Kurayami yells. Akui runs for it but they grab it and make a break for it. Kurayami gets up and catches up to Akui. They are throwing wood on the floor distracting them. But, one of the assassins start throwing explosive shurikens. Akui and Kurayami dodge the shuriken''s it looks like there amateurs. Kurayami "Handle the left I got the guy with the scroll its my fault anyways" Akui agrees. They split from each other and go after there set guy. Akui pulls his blade out and black aura surrounds it. "Shadow Wall!" He yells As it appears infront of the assassin stopping him in his tracks. A shadow clone appears out of his sword slicing him down to his knees. Akui runs and jumps and cuts the assassin''s head off. Kurayami catches up to his assassin, but he''s puts in more effort than his partner jumping off the wall trying his best at cutting Kurayami down. Not a lot of power behind the slash and no precision leads to Kurayami being able to dodge his attack and cut his body in half. Akui reunites with Kurayami and they grab the scroll and head back. "Akui there''s something special about this scroll." Kurayami say''s. Akui responds "you think, obviously everyone is after it." "We''re keeping this scroll, I got a plan." Kurayami smirks. Akui smiles and they travel down the mountain. back through the forest. It''s all looking up from here as Kurayami is about to get his sisters memory back. Then he can get back to his original journey. Kurayami cuts through the forest finding the open area, as he see''s Mugen waiting for him. Mugen has the bottle of memories around his neck like a necklace. (Cuts back to the plan) "Im gonna go alone, you go in the forest behind, and take the necklace off of him then we get to keep the scroll, when I say memories jump out sound like a plan." Kurayami explains. Akui "Sounds good" (Back to the forest) Mugen "Only you where''s your buddy" Kurayami say''s "He got caught up with some assassins that tried taking the scroll." Mugen "Well, do you have it" "Of course I want my sister''s MEMORIES back" Kurayami weirdly says. Akui jumps out only to get stopped by the Soul Eater stabbing him through the chest. He disintegrates in front of their eyes, with their backs turned the real Akui comes around and puts a sword through Mugen''s back while grabbing the memories. He tosses the memories to Kurayami, which he stores safely in his pocket. Mugen coughing up blood "You think this is enough? I''m not going to die from this puny wound." Akui sees the Soul Eater coming and realizes his blade is stuck. Soul Eater grabs him and throws him down, leaving serious damage. Kurayami sees cutting them doesn''t work and remembers they feed off fears. Kurayami runs and jumps on the ghost. He knows it''s just mind games. "I''m not afraid anymore, you know I accept their dead; I can''t be afraid around my sister. You don''t scare me," Kurayami yells. Soul Eater starts to weaken after hearing words that defy what his identity is, but he''s not yet letting him know this also fuels him up with anger. Mugen "FLASHBACK." Throwing Kurayami back into a tree. With Akui down, Mugen grabs his body and controls his brain. Making him fight Kurayami instead. Akui "DARK WISDOM" he says when dark roots go underground and come backstabbing Kurayami''s legs. "Ahh" Kurayami screams out. "What the hell are you doing dumbass." Akui "Die" Mugen "Great job." "You can take my partner, but you''re still not scaring me." Kurayami yells. Mugen (in head) "who is this kid" With those words Soul Eater continues to get weaker. Kurayami gets up he realizes with his words it makes the monster weaker, but it takes effect on Mugen as well. Mugen must be fused with the ghost he thinks, so his main body isn''t his human form it''s the ghost. Akui gets thrown from the ghost, not needing him anymore. Soul Eater then turns into his ghostly form the one Kurayami seen before in his house. In Kurayami''s head "so they have different forms." Kurayami takes a large leap with his sword and in one swipe cuts Mugen''s head off That doesn''t do much to his ghost form. Soul Eater grabs the body and his head and flies away. "Dammit" Kurayami screams. He goes to check on Akui he doesn''t have much time, so Kurayami grabs him and runs. "I''m sorry Akui" Kurayami said. Akui say''s "Just don''t let me die" Kurayami gets serious. He runs through the whole forest and the town to the hideout. "Yukina, I need you right now." Kurayami asks. Yukina "Set him down in here I''ll take it from here." "He''ll be fine under my care." Yukina says to not worry him. "Shoi, you feeling better?" Kurayami "Better than ever." Shoi says. Kurayami "Ok let''s get back out there tomorrow I need some rest." "All good tell the info tomorrow." Shoi said. Kurayami nods and waves as he leaves. He heads to the convenience store that''s open 24 hrs. He grabs a little snack, but that same girl pays for his stuff. "Why''d you do that I barely know you." Kurayami. Girl "The names Merlin, you''ll get to know me." She runs out in a hurry while Kurayami stands there confused. "That was weird." Kurayami shakes his head. On his way back home, he just takes in the night and eats his snack. He gets home and opens the bottle to put his sister''s memories back in her head. Hoshi doesn''t budge in her sleep; it''s an easy process. Kurayami relaxes on the couch watching something and falls asleep. (The next day) Hoshi "Hey bro, I didn''t see you get home." Kurayami say''s "Don''t worry about me I''m safe, now how about some eggs, bacon and toast." Hoshi cheers, Kurayami smiles and the next adventure starts... Chapter - 3 The Knowledge of Isamu
"Time to go already, I''ve enjoyed my break," Shoi says Kurayami replies "while I''ve been getting my ass kicked you''ve been relaxing time to go." "Alright" Shoi drags himself to the door. Every girl to Kurayami looks like that one girl he keeps seeing. (Flashback to the morning) "What''s on your mind, big bro," Hoshi said. Kurayami "Nothing much, just a girl paid for the groceries yesterday." Hoshi nudges him "Oooo is she your girlfriend, or perhaps your wife." Hoshi tears up "Why didn''t you tell me, bro, all this time your loner self has a girlfriend. Do you also have any friends?" Kurayami says "No, I don''t and she''s not my girlfriend." (In Kurayami''s head) "What''s this feeling I don''t even know her." (back to Shoi) As they sit on a rooftop, the sun is setting. Kurayami shares his adventures with Akui to Shoi. "Wow, must have been crazy." Shoi, dead inside. "Glad I wasn''t there," Shoi says with relief. Kurayami "This scroll I have is better than the one from the Soul Skeleton. Also, whatever happened to the scroll from the mirror." "I saw it fall through the mirror and never saw it again," Shoi said. "Damn, we should go see that old man again I feel like he would know," Kurayami say''s They get down and hear a scream. "That guy stole my purse." Lady Both run after the guy, showing off their speed, catching up and taking him down, "Who told you to do this?" Shoi said. He looks like a regular guy, and they know something is up, but he points to nothing. "Playing games huh," Shoi says. When a black shadow comes launching at Shoi. Kurayami thinks fast and slices it down. They take the purse and give it back. "Thank you so much." Lady. "No problem" Shoi and Kurayami. "What''s with these dark figures," Kurayami says. "We keep seeing them everywhere," Shoi said. "It''s starting to get suspicious, something''s following us, and now they can take control of others," Kurayami explains. It starts to rain, so they head to the nearest ramen place. They take their seats and order, a weird-looking guy is next to them. "Pss" Hooded man. Kurayami and Shoi point at themselves. "Yes you." Hooded man. "What''s up, need some money." Shoi "Enough with the chit chat. I''m here to talk to him." Hooded man says looking at Kurayami. "How do you know Ms. Merlin?" Hooded man "Oh, the girl, I don''t think she just randomly comes around," Kurayami said. Hooded man replies, "Both of you should get to know her." He gets up and leaves. "I have no clue what that was, I don''t even get the chance to talk to her." Kurayami confused. They both eat and sit there confused. While walking back to the hideout for the night. "Night ruined by some rain, wow, what a short day." Kurayami "Also a confusing one, why would he want us to get to know her." Shoi Kurayami "Hey look isn''t that him, and her." Shoi "Yeah it is." They watch from afar. Seeing him yell at her for something. "She''s getting in trouble; I wonder what she did. I''ve never seen her in this state, she''s always so serious." Kurayami said, "Let''s get out of here." Shoi "Good plan." Kurayami They go a different path to the hideout. Yukina "Hey guys, quick night for you, and no injuries." Shoi is embarrassed he knows she''s talking about him. "Akui getting better?" Kurayami asks. Yukina "Yeah it''ll be a while till he''s ready to go." Shoi is already sleeping. Kurayami "Yukina, you''ve been in this town long, and in the business for a while. What''s up with this old man? Yukina "Oh Mr. Isamu he''s a nice old man I always help him when I can." Kurayami (In head) "Ok she''s oblivious." Kurayami "I can never find him at night." Yukina "Well he''s probably sleeping he''s old" she laughs. Shoi gets a little snack and a card to invite Yukina to the team, while Kurayami buys food for dinner. They both head back to the hideout. "Hey Yukina," Shoi says with a smile. Yukina "What''s up."
